This week we have...

It's our 4 Year Podcast Anniversary Spectacular! (with Mike and Bill, of course)

Mike started off with his reading and it was focused on honesty. We were not truthful, we believed our own BS and we had very little integrity. Until we got sober. It was a good reading and a good conversation.

And yes! We have been doing this podcast thing for 4 years already. We talked about the beginning a little bit, a fun email that we received early on and dug into the type of "format" that we are.

The main thing is that we are still having fun and we know that we have the ability to help a few people here and there.

There is also a new baby in the family! Listen in for all of the details.

And Bill was watching his grandson for 4 days while his daughter and son in law were at the hospital with the newborn. It's been a few years and it's definitely a younger person's game.

Lastly, we talked about "functional medicine." Neither of us had heard of it before, but it came up on another sobriety podcast and it's pretty interesting.

This is the real last thing; From both of us, a sincere thank you for listening to us and our nonsense over the last 4 years. We truly appreciate each and every one of you!

Enjoy the Episode.

00:00:01.50
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome once again to another episode of Sober Not Mature. And yeah, it's ah it's our fucking four-year anniversary. and We're having technical issues.

00:00:16.57
Bill
ah ah Is that on your computer? Is that a little blowhorn?

00:00:20.87
Mike
It's from my phone.

00:00:22.97
Bill
Is it really? I like it. Thank you. Thank you. I'm glad that you did that. i was i I did not even think about doing anything like that. But yeah, so yeah so four four years ago today and don't remember when we recorded the first episode, but it was released on February 27th of 2022, which is obviously we're recording on February. twenty Just do that every once in a while, because you know what?

00:00:46.94
Mike
he

00:00:47.94
Bill
There's there's a reason why we're we're award nominated, and that's do it again.

00:00:51.16
Mike
That's right.

00:00:52.89
Bill
Ready? Go ahead.

00:00:53.50
Mike
What?

00:00:53.57
Bill
Go.

00:00:53.86
Mike
Oh, well, hang on. No, it's not all that quick.

00:00:57.13
Bill
Oh, you got to have it like ready, man.

00:01:04.63
Bill
it just Let's just play sound effects the entire night. Why not? You know? But yeah, literally when, uh, when I was about to, um, actually send Mike the the studio link, I realized that my ethernet connection wasn't, wasn't hooked up.

00:01:17.25
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:01:19.92
Bill
So I'm, I'm operating on wifi, which for anyone listening, you may not know this, but we don't, we don't do that. We, we hardwire, hardwire ourselves in to make sure that, uh, you know, there's no interruptions or anything like that.

00:01:25.67
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:01:30.72
Bill
And then, but, uh,

00:01:32.31
Mike
Well, I mean, when I was at Kathy's for Thanksgiving, I did Wi-Fi, and in the couple episodes I did from Mexico were on Wi-Fi. So, you know, we'll we'll get by.

00:01:40.34
Bill
right.

00:01:42.88
Mike
Right.

00:01:43.38
Bill
Oh, I know. Yeah, it's going to be fine. The only thing I worry about is if, you know, the same thing with actually, you know, like the the one time when everything shut down, you couldn't even stop the recording.

00:01:52.72
Mike
Right.

00:01:52.86
Bill
But again, what what does it fucking matter?

00:01:53.43
Mike
maybe

00:01:55.26
Bill
This is just, you know what? Why wouldn't it happen at our anniversary, number one? Because because why why wouldn't it, right?

00:02:00.25
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:02:02.00
Bill
And then why wouldn't it happen at, I mean, this is the start of a new season.

00:02:02.10
Mike
Right.

00:02:05.16
Bill
These are the things that all you folks out there get to look forward to.

00:02:05.56
Mike
Sure. Mm-hmm.

00:02:08.56
Bill
And this is why you, This is if you voted for us or or haven't voted for us yet, this is why you should vote for us, because we are we are not polished.

00:02:14.78
Mike
this

00:02:16.36
Bill
We are that we don't plan for shit.

00:02:18.65
Mike
Right.

00:02:20.20
Bill
We're just we're just out out here out here with their what do we do? Shoot our what in the what and what happens? What did you say?

00:02:24.89
Mike
Shoot our wad into the wind and see what happens.

00:02:28.92
Bill
Yep. Our wad has been blown all over tonight. So we're, ah we're seeing, we're seeing what happens, but I don't know. Four years is a long fucking time in, in my mind.

00:02:37.05
Mike
It is.

00:02:37.32
Bill
And you know, we got, I'm sure we got, I wrote down some notes about some things. I got some, I don't know, some, a couple of things that I wrote down based on the anniversary part of it. um and the podcast stuff.

00:02:46.80
Mike
right.

00:02:47.91
Bill
But we also have a, we've got a a new baby in the family. So we can, we can talk about that a little bit, little bit later, but I'm trying to think what else.

00:02:51.90
Mike
Yes.

00:02:56.06
Bill
So the, the podcast, we have no internet connection. No, we do. but

00:03:00.76
Mike
are. We do.

00:03:01.94
Bill
um We're, we're award nominated. We still have that out there.

00:03:04.09
Mike
we are

00:03:04.62
Bill
So did, if you're listening to us, did you fucking vote yet?

00:03:05.11
Mike
we do

00:03:07.26
Bill
If you didn't go vote.

00:03:07.74
Mike
Yeah, right. What the hell, man?

00:03:09.08
Bill
if it ah Right.

00:03:09.78
Mike
I mean, i hell, I voted. and don't do shit for this podcast.

00:03:13.43
Bill
Right.

00:03:16.95
Bill
Yeah. Whatever you said in our promo, when you said some low life, this, that, blah, blah, blah, which seriously, I thought you were talking about me and you're like, if I could do it, I'm like, ohm like Oh my God, Jesus. I thought you were talking about me.

00:03:27.19
Mike
I only talk about myself that way.

00:03:29.37
Bill
that That's okay. i' I'd accept it either way. It's, ah it's, I mean, I, I, I resemble that remark if, if nothing else. So, but yeah, so tonight's my, my last night in, in Wisconsin also.

00:03:40.02
Bill
So I'm heading out and and out in the morning and yeah, I got a cold too on top of that.

00:03:42.90
Mike
right

00:03:43.95
Bill
But if, yeah, if I happen to, and I, you here, here's the thing and I'll talk about my, my whole, ah the week was good, but um you know, I was taking care of a toddler for four days and um here's the good news.

00:03:44.15
Mike
Right. Nice.

00:03:55.14
Bill
He didn't injure himself and he's still alive, you know, so.

00:03:57.11
Mike
Well, he's not even a toddler anymore. He's, you know, I mean, he's, yeah, yeah, right.

00:04:00.17
Bill
He's a young male. He's almost four. you

00:04:02.82
Mike
You know, he's going to be off to college here soon. Right.

00:04:05.40
Bill
Yeah. So all but whatever, whatever you see, that's, that's how fucking old I am. i don't even know what to call him anymore.

00:04:11.29
Mike
Right.

00:04:11.52
Bill
He's an almost, he's an almost four year old.

00:04:13.48
Mike
He's a small boy.

00:04:14.57
Bill
He's a small boy. So um I seriously, I don't know if I, um i I thought a couple of weeks ago I was getting a sinus infection, but then I'm like, oh, i what that went away.

00:04:15.58
Mike
Yes.

00:04:22.29
Bill
And then maybe it didn't. And maybe he had he had a little bit of a cough, but then I was at, you know, two different like daycare schools, you know, with kids around.

00:04:28.92
Mike
Oh, yeah.

00:04:29.57
Bill
And, you know, so I was around him.

00:04:30.30
Mike
oh Carriers, man. Fucking carriers.

00:04:32.66
Bill
Yeah. Well, and he had a little bit of a cough, nothing big, nothing out of the ordinary, but I mean, i don't know, you know, it's just whatever it is.

00:04:36.69
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:04:39.71
Bill
I've got to, I don't catch colds that much, but I'm also not around these, you know, these little Petri dishes, you know, that run around on, you know, these, these disease ridden Petri dishes that, that we call children.

00:04:44.94
Mike
Yes, exactly. Yep. Hmm. go ahead.

00:04:48.60
Mike
yes exactly oh

00:04:52.79
Bill
But yeah, so i've got I've got a couple of stories. But i don't know. we got We got plenty to do. But you know what? I think keeping with ah the with the structure.

00:04:58.04
Mike
whom

00:05:00.45
Bill
Oh, real quick before I forget.

00:05:01.56
Mike
yeah

00:05:02.21
Bill
I'm sorry. we do We do have a guest next week.

00:05:03.22
Mike
go ahead

00:05:05.58
Bill
Okay? Remind me. i'll I guess, well, we haven't really talked about him too much, but we can do a little little promo and preview of him. He committed already i you know or confirmed. I guess I usually try to...

00:05:16.35
Mike
Right.

00:05:16.47
Bill
Check in with people like a week prior.

00:05:16.61
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:05:17.95
Bill
So he's all confirmed up so we can we can mention the guests later.

00:05:19.83
Mike
Cool.

00:05:20.87
Bill
But yeah, it's not not just us again next week. We have a guest. So there.

00:05:24.18
Mike
Yes. So there.

00:05:25.72
Bill
So there, God damn it. But anyhow, happy happy fucking anniversary and enjoy enjoy the rest of the...

00:05:29.46
Mike
Yeah. Right back at you.

00:05:31.78
Bill
its Somebody you enjoy the rest of the show, I guess. Okay, you ready?

00:05:34.42
Mike
and yeah we could do a reading i suppose we could do that uh let's see here is uh from touchstone says uh um what the hell is today so this is what yesterday wait yes so two days ago i don't know man it's been a long week for me too

00:05:34.82
Bill
You ready for a reading or something? you

00:05:49.14
Bill
Today's the 27th. Right. Right.

00:05:52.92
Bill
yeah

00:05:57.21
Bill
right

00:05:57.50
Mike
um ah But anyway, I won't sit here and bitch about work. I have a reading to do. Yeah, so Touchstones, February 25th. Read this one the other day and thought, yeah, this is good. Actually, I like the one today, too. I saw you posted it. um But anyway, I figured that would be overkill, although we have done that before. I don't know. I'm rambling. I should probably read.

00:06:20.82
Mike
ah Every time I close the door on reality, it comes in through the window. Ashley Brilliant. Apparently he was a author and cartoonist and I never heard of him, but I had a half a second to look him up. So there you go. ah Let's see In the past, many of us closed the door on reality of our abuse of ourselves or others or and others.

00:06:49.91
Mike
We gave explanations, but our words more often hid the truth than revealed it. The chaos in our lives was reality coming in the window.

00:07:01.27
Mike
Many men or women have come into this program priding themselves on their honesty, but not aware of how dishonest they were with themselves. Honesty is a pillar of spiritual awakening. There is no growth without it, and it begins with ourselves.

00:07:19.67
Mike
We do not define the truth. We accept it. We surrender to it. The truth may not feel good and can be even painful, That is the pain of birth, the rebirth of a real person.

00:07:34.74
Mike
And the promise of this day is the reward of having our integrity and the peace of self-acceptance. Touchstone thought for the day. to Today i will surrender to the truth. I will accept the reality which presses for attention in my life.

00:07:53.88
Bill
but I'll tell you one thing, man, this fucking touchstones makes me work for a living over here, but I'm sitting there.

00:07:58.03
Mike
Sure. Yes. Ah.

00:07:59.39
Bill
I mean, there's so many things I'm writing down. They got these long thoughts and I'm just like, Jesus Christ, my hand hurts trying to write stuff down and i'm missing things. And I could easily just pull out the, you know, pull out the the reading and kind of review it, but that's no fun.

00:08:11.22
Mike
sure

00:08:12.28
Bill
I like to, I like to write shit down.

00:08:13.37
Mike
yes

00:08:13.80
Bill
So, um you know, the, the touchstones thought for the day, I completely missed because I was trying to unmute myself so I could speak after you were done. So could you, could you read that again, please, Mike?

00:08:23.00
Mike
I can. Today I will surrender to the truth. I will accept the reality which presses for attention in my life.

00:08:32.63
Bill
Wow. um

00:08:33.61
Mike
Yup.

00:08:35.51
Bill
so So what do you think about that?

00:08:37.69
Mike
Oh shit. Uh, yes. um

00:08:40.60
Bill
That's that's a mouthful and a mindful and a.

00:08:42.87
Mike
It is.

00:08:43.67
Bill
okay

00:08:43.86
Mike
Well, I mean, the whole the whole um point of the reading for me and and kind of why I chose it and why it stepped out or jumped out at me the other day was, um you know, the the lying to ourselves, right?

00:08:57.36
Mike
You know, that was, you know, um one of my favorite lines in group that I used to do was always, you know, yeah, the biggest lie we tell ourselves.

00:08:57.39
Bill
Right.

00:09:06.40
Mike
We're not hurting anyone but ourselves, right? And we fucking believed it. um Yeah, you know, we believed our bullshit. That was, you know, one of our, one of my major problems was I believed the nonsense in my head.

00:09:22.14
Mike
um And thanks to this program and working the steps and being sober and, and and you know, doing those inventories and and, you know, accepting reality for what it fucking is.

00:09:35.58
Mike
um we don't lie to ourselves. We don't believe the lies. I mean, you know, I'm certainly very capable of telling myself lies still. Um, but thankfully I don't believe them.

00:09:48.12
Mike
Um, and you know, i through these low, these past few years, um, several years, right.

00:09:48.29
Bill
Right.

00:09:57.38
Mike
Um, Yeah, you know, um when i when I do attempt to lie to myself, um I recognize it, you know, and I go, well, that's bullshit. That's not real.

00:10:09.18
Mike
And um yeah, you know, and so um I'm living in truth. And that's, you know, it talks about the freedom and the surrender of living in truth in reality and reality and not bullshitting yourselves.

00:10:22.02
Mike
And it it is, it is freeing. um you know it's again like the reading said you know it's not it's not always easy sometimes it's fucking painful to look at reality and go oh man that's that's really how it is god damn it you know us control freaks we we we don't like that what do you mean this is the way it is i want it to be differently um but it's fucking not and um you know and and

00:10:24.16
Bill
Right. Right.

00:10:51.51
Mike
Looking at reality and and and realizing it and accepting it um is freeing, you know, because we're not fighting against shit we've We've learned nothing else in this program. We've learned that fighting against something that we can't win against um is talk about a waste of calories, man.

00:11:10.39
Bill
Right.

00:11:11.10
Mike
yes So there. Hmm.

00:11:13.98
Bill
ah ha Yeah. You know, it's a guy you just, he brought up all, and I wrote down one, one thing real quick, kind of a side note based on what you, what you just said, but I mean, so many things that you just said, maybe go, yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:11:19.03
Mike
in Yeah.

00:11:26.97
Bill
In my head, I'm just kind of like, you like what you just said, fighting something that we can't win reminds me of when we were told in, in group, you know i mean Like alcohol being the, or, or,

00:11:31.19
Mike
Well.

00:11:36.60
Bill
continue to go back and and try to, again, fight this disease or keep drinking or whatever.

00:11:40.54
Mike
see

00:11:41.12
Bill
It's like getting into ah you know a boxing ring with ah with a prize fighter you know and you know just walking in there and you're going to get your ass fucking killed every time.

00:11:45.40
Mike
Right.

00:11:50.10
Mike
Yeah.

00:11:50.60
Bill
you know and you And you know it, but you're like, eh, I'm going to go hop in that ring again.

00:11:50.74
Mike
Right.

00:11:53.62
Mike
yeah Right. Well, I mean, I get that the whole point of the reading, man, lying to ourselves and believing it.

00:12:00.09
Bill
Right?

00:12:00.79
Mike
Yeah.

00:12:00.98
Bill
Yeah.

00:12:01.39
Mike
Not facing reality and and concocting a bunch of nonsense in our head and going, yeah, that works. Mm hmm.

00:12:09.46
Bill
Well, and in the other thing, when you first said said that, you know, believing our bullshit, you know, it made me think about the two words, um you know, delusional and denial. Because when, i mean, the, not even just either believing or not believing, I guess, when I look at it, you know, the the way that I was, if nothing else, I mean, for ah for years, but...

00:12:28.11
Mike
Hmm.

00:12:28.41
Bill
literally at the end, you know, the last, I don't know whether it's six months, year, whatever, how I, how I, you know, started my day every, every day and that sort of thing.

00:12:32.69
Mike
Sure. Mm-hmm.

00:12:36.46
Bill
And either not, not believing, um you know, the being delusional in, in denial, as far as what I was as a human being and the, the, the problem that I had, you know, clearly in front of me.

00:12:44.45
Mike
Sure.

00:12:48.05
Bill
But on top of that, thinking that, you know, saying, oh, no, I'm I'm a survivor. I'm going to get this. I'm fine. I'm going to do whatever. You said that the best one is that it used to say it all the time. You know, the biggest lie that we tell ourselves is that we're not hurting anyone else, which is complete fucking bullshit, which would be it'd be the same thing as us saying now when we've turned it around and flip that whole story around.

00:13:01.89
Mike
Right. Of course.

00:13:10.20
Bill
that it's like us believing that by doing all these good things, you know, and trying to be good human beings and being good human beings that we're not affecting other people because of course we are, you know, and you know, it's, I don't know, that doesn't, we don't want to be egotist and stuff like that.

00:13:19.03
Mike
Right. Right.

00:13:24.87
Mike
Hmm.

00:13:25.19
Bill
Like, Ooh, I'm doing all this good and look at me type of thing.

00:13:26.73
Mike
Yeah, right, right. Yeah.

00:13:28.22
Bill
But it's nice when somebody acknowledges, you know, and you don't think about it. I mean, I don't think about, Hey, I'm going to go out the world and do good things today. Yeah.

00:13:37.70
Mike
right. Mm-hmm.

00:13:38.46
Bill
I mean, I, I know that the things I do have that positive ripple effect, but, um, again, it's the, it's the opposite of the story, but I wrote down the same goddamn thing. Truth can be painful.

00:13:47.39
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:13:47.57
Bill
Um, it said, uh, I, I wrote down integrity and self-acceptance and I don't remember what part that was right before you got to the touchstone thought for the day. I'm like, fuck, I'm trying to make my final note.

00:13:57.43
Mike
hey

00:13:57.84
Bill
So I have no idea what that was about, but, um,

00:13:59.77
Mike
ah And the promise of the day is the reward of having our integrity and the peace of self-acceptance. Mm-hmm.

00:14:08.66
Bill
There you go. Okay. So that's what we get now, obviously, is that we have integrity and we get ah you know positive self-acceptance or self-acceptance.

00:14:13.66
Mike
Yep.

00:14:16.46
Bill
But the other thing that I wrote down is um you know we pride ourselves on um or said a lot of us pride ourselves on honesty when we come in, but we're not honest with ourselves, which we we've already mentioned that part of it.

00:14:25.43
Mike
the

00:14:29.02
Bill
But I never thought about that, that if you would have asked me

00:14:29.53
Mike
Sure.

00:14:34.36
Bill
When I walked in the door and I it's not that I didn't didn't lie because I did a lot, you know, but if if somebody would have asked me in general, if I was even by percentage at the larger percentage of of how I ran my life was was honest.

00:14:39.07
Mike
Sure. Of course.

00:14:48.98
Bill
and I was an honest person, I would have agreed with that, which was, again, delusional denial, you know, but that that's lying to myself and not realizing, you know, what I was doing.

00:14:49.26
Mike
isnt it

00:14:51.90
Mike
Of course. Yep. yep

00:15:00.93
Bill
But um I that's that really stuck out at me because i'm like, God damn, I think that I was easily that guy when I walked in the doors thinking, oh, you know, I'm I'm a I'm a swell guy.

00:15:09.27
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:15:12.34
Bill
Yeah.

00:15:12.60
Mike
Sure. Right. Yeah. and And of course, yes, our, our honesty was, you know, pointing out other people's flaws and yeah, right.

00:15:20.38
Bill
Right.

00:15:22.28
Mike
That was, that was our form of honesty, you know? um Yeah. Again, you know, honesty without compassion is cruelty. um Yeah.

00:15:29.91
Bill
Right.

00:15:30.72
Mike
So we were, we were cruel. Yeah. We were honest about it. And what, probably what we were saying was true. I know. yeah You know, most of the time, yeah, you're a fucking asshole.

00:15:41.06
Mike
You're ugly. You're fat. know Yeah, they're yeah they are assholes and they're ugly and they're fat. But why would you bother telling them that? What is the point of that?

00:15:51.86
Mike
Right.

00:15:53.82
Bill
does does my ah Does my ass look fat in these jeans? Yeah, it yeah it does.

00:15:56.95
Mike
yes Yeah.

00:15:57.58
Bill
yeah i think you should Well, I'll tell you this.

00:15:58.32
Mike
Yeah.

00:15:59.96
Bill
You should put on a different pair of jeans. Let's just put it that way.

00:16:02.52
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:16:03.74
Bill
Well, you wanted to be be honest, didn't you?

00:16:03.84
Mike
Sure. Sure.

00:16:06.56
Bill
ah Well, fine, then fuck you. I won't apologize if you don't want me to say I'm sorry.

00:16:10.25
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yep. No. Hmm.

00:16:11.76
Bill
But, um, but yeah, I mean, that, that's exactly it.

00:16:11.96
Mike
right

00:16:14.24
Bill
And I, I, I love that saying too, you know, honestly, without, you know, a lot compassion or love, you know, you've said before too, you know, it is, it's just fucking cruel.

00:16:16.44
Mike
is

00:16:22.20
Bill
There's just no reason for us to, I mean, there isn't there. I was going to say maybe, ah no, but there's not, there's no reason for us to, to be, we don't ever have to be brutally honest, I guess is the, is the best way to put it.

00:16:29.62
Mike
yes

00:16:32.79
Mike
No, absolutely not.

00:16:34.60
Bill
Right.

00:16:34.90
Mike
Yeah, exactly. Keep your fucking mouth shut if you don't anything nice to say. Wait, weren't we supposed to learn that when we were like four years old? If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

00:16:43.00
Bill
Right? Yep.

00:16:45.56
Mike
Okay.

00:16:46.53
Bill
Yeah.

00:16:47.83
Mike
Sounds like a plan.

00:16:49.21
Bill
Well, and we we had brought that up, I don't know, a handful of months or a couple of months ago, at least. that was That's Thumper. Thumper and Bambi, too. Bambi's a kid's story in a kid's movie, you know?

00:16:55.80
Mike
Yeah.

00:16:58.49
Mike
Right.

00:16:59.09
Bill
And it's little cute little bunnies telling us that. That's what his mom was saying to him or whatever it was. or Maybe that was Bambi. I don't remember. I think it was Thumper, though. Either way. It was in it was in the movie Bambi.

00:17:07.48
Mike
I don't know.

00:17:09.16
Bill
So, I mean, again...

00:17:09.78
Mike
Sure. Hmm.

00:17:10.78
Bill
Something that should have captivated or caught our attention at ah at a relatively young age for us to figure that fucking shit out.

00:17:15.35
Mike
Yes.

00:17:16.74
Bill
so

00:17:17.32
Mike
Sure. Oh, yeah.

00:17:18.39
Bill
But yeah, no, I mean, in in just in general, I mean, obviously we we talk about we talk about honesty all the time. And it's ah that you you mentioned it too. That was the other thing that I i thought about is that we know now we still, um and I think you said you still can or it's easy enough if you wanted to, to lie to yourself.

00:17:34.74
Mike
sure yeah

00:17:36.63
Bill
But as soon as you do, you're like, ah, fuck me.

00:17:39.61
Mike
yeah right no no that that's bullshit yeah right right i can't accept it i won't accept it because it's going to complicate my life and i'm still selfish and self-centered and yeah i i'm you know again easier softer way man the easier softer way is not to believe my own bullshit anymore yeah

00:17:40.94
Bill
You're like, yeah, i that's, yeah, it's a lie and I can't i can't do that.

00:18:00.63
Bill
Right. Right. Yeah. or Or not as much. Not as much.

00:18:04.50
Mike
yeah exactly

00:18:04.81
Bill
said du If nothing, be be cognizant of your own bullshit so that when it when it tries to squeeze its way.

00:18:09.27
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:18:11.73
Bill
And I love that opening part. You know, when you close the door in reality, it comes through the window.

00:18:15.32
Mike
Yeah.

00:18:16.45
Bill
That's fucking perfect.

00:18:16.50
Mike
Yo.

00:18:17.45
Bill
You know, you know, like the same thing.

00:18:17.88
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:18:19.69
Bill
I've never heard of that person before either, but I like that. I like that saying. And I remember that obviously reading that through, you know, a couple of days and touchstones is the, that's the last one that I read in the morning.

00:18:26.30
Mike
Right.

00:18:28.84
Mike
Mm.

00:18:29.53
Bill
And yeah, I think it, ah well, i I'll take your word for it. I wouldn't have remembered which one I posted this morning. anyhow You know, it's just, was it?

00:18:37.50
Mike
It was today's touchstones, right? Yeah, whatever it was.

00:18:39.53
Bill
Okay.

00:18:40.06
Mike
Yeah. Because like I said, I kind of thought I was like, oh, and then I happened to glance at one point today.

00:18:41.37
Bill
Yeah.

00:18:45.54
Mike
I went, oh, you posted it. All right. I'll go back to the other one that I liked.

00:18:50.04
Bill
Yeah, well, there's a, you know, and and it is kind of funny. I mean, obviously I love Keep It Simple still. And there'll be there'll be streaks of um of, I don't know, readings that, you know, are along the same lines.

00:19:00.81
Bill
Like the word, whether it's today or yesterday, the word surrender was brought up in, i think, Keep It Simple and God Grant Me.

00:19:04.84
Mike
Right.

00:19:07.74
Mike
Yeah.

00:19:09.21
Bill
Because if I'm not mistaken, God Grant Me for sure, because I know you're not reading Keep It Simple anymore.

00:19:12.92
Mike
Right.

00:19:13.37
Bill
But I um i think it was in both, you know.

00:19:15.58
Mike
Yeah. Actually, I think it was touchstones in God grant me today. It was like, yeah, I think they were both like really fucking similar.

00:19:18.94
Bill
Was it really? Was it? Okay.

00:19:21.99
Mike
That seems familiar from thousands of hours ago.

00:19:24.25
Bill
Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah you know you're you're exactly right because, yeah, just I just looked on my phone when I copied it.

00:19:29.66
Mike
Yeah.

00:19:30.37
Bill
Surrender means we give up fighting with our addiction. That's the opening line of the – or, well, the part that i that I copied off of there.

00:19:34.39
Mike
Right.

00:19:36.96
Bill
So, yeah, it was – yeah, it's fucking weird.

00:19:37.22
Mike
Right.

00:19:39.04
Bill
I mean, when when they do that, but I'm like, i'm like what is what is today? I mean, it's the 27th of February.

00:19:43.83
Mike
who

00:19:44.43
Bill
Is today's Surrender Day? I mean, I don't know.

00:19:45.56
Mike
Apparently. Well, every day is, but...

00:19:46.91
Bill
I know, but is it is it National Surrender Day? So both of them are writing about it?

00:19:50.71
Mike
Sure.

00:19:51.51
Bill
Or you know what is the fucking deal with the 27th?

00:19:52.09
Mike
don't know. Yeah.

00:19:54.97
Bill
But I mean, I get it when there are certain themes based on, you know, the the whatever month it is in the step and and all those sort of things.

00:20:00.67
Mike
Yeah.

00:20:01.05
Bill
But it just, yeah, when you get something that focuses on that, like not like it's a it's a it's an odd word or an odd concept, but you know, surrender. But i don't know.

00:20:09.13
Mike
Yes.

00:20:09.70
Bill
It's just when they when they mirror each other, it it blows my mind just a tad. So but um what else?

00:20:14.14
Mike
Yes.

00:20:15.94
Bill
What else with that reading? I mean, i I think it's a great one. I mean, obviously, the backbone of what we do is is with all about honesty.

00:20:20.97
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:20:22.10
Bill
But what else?

00:20:22.94
Mike
Right. um I mean, well, and clearly it's one of the absolutes too, you know?

00:20:27.33
Bill
Right.

00:20:27.34
Mike
I mean, yeah, it comes back to the that brutal honesty and stuff. You know, when we've got to, you know, am I going to tell you you're fat and ugly? Is that is that honest?

00:20:37.74
Mike
Well, yeah, probably. you know, is it loving? No. Is it unselfish?

00:20:41.59
Bill
Right.

00:20:43.33
Mike
No. yeah And is it pure? Not really. you know, in the sense of, you know, goodness and purity and whatever.

00:20:48.63
Bill
Right.

00:20:52.08
Mike
Yeah, right. So, yeah, exactly. Hey, it doesn't pass the absolute test, so probably shouldn't fucking do it.

00:20:58.07
Bill
Well, yeah, shit. I mean, yeah when when you can go through the absolutes and it doesn't pass through any of them, then then you're you're like, wait, let me go one more.

00:21:02.40
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:21:05.65
Bill
Nope. that that that What about that one?

00:21:06.52
Mike
No.

00:21:07.17
Bill
Nope.

00:21:07.18
Mike
Right.

00:21:07.77
Bill
what

00:21:08.15
Mike
Right.

00:21:08.79
Bill
One out of four? God damn it. No, it's all four of them. God damn it.

00:21:11.74
Mike
Yeah. Well, again, it does pass the honesty test because you are fat and ugly, but...

00:21:13.88
Bill
Yeah.

00:21:17.24
Bill
Well, that's true. Yeah. And and you're right and yeah you're you're fat and ugly and your mom dresses you funny or something like that.

00:21:21.82
Mike
That's right.

00:21:22.20
Bill
right Yeah.

00:21:22.68
Mike
She wears combat boots.

00:21:24.06
Bill
You know you know it's funny, and it just rev reminds me, obviously, that's an old, what's probably 60s or 70s type of term.

00:21:26.22
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:21:30.70
Bill
There was a, ah oh, you think it would be, is it that old?

00:21:30.90
Mike
got forty s yeah

00:21:34.42
Bill
Okay.

00:21:34.46
Mike
easy

00:21:35.10
Bill
But it whatever, this just reminded me of this. i was up on the um I've got lots of Chromecast, but it's called Google TV now. So basically um any any TV you you get, you can plug it in.

00:21:46.72
Bill
That's what I travel with. And it turns it into a smart TV.

00:21:48.05
Mike
Right.

00:21:50.04
Bill
So on my on my main screen is where you got all the Netflix, the different channels, and different apps, and blah, blah, blah.

00:21:50.65
Mike
Right.

00:21:56.16
Bill
But every once in a while, it'll have...

00:21:56.28
Mike
hu

00:21:58.62
Bill
you know like little things that like suggestions for you. And it said, you know, um commercials that people from the 80s will remember.

00:22:01.50
Mike
Sure.

00:22:07.70
Bill
all Everyone will remember these commercials.

00:22:10.33
Mike
Right.

00:22:10.40
Bill
And I look at them like it's 17 minutes long and it's getting late and whatever. I'm like, I'm not going to watch 17 minutes of these, but I popped into it. They had, you remember that there was a commercial for like Zest, for Zestfully Clean.

00:22:16.73
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:22:21.04
Bill
They had a couple of these, under they had a McDonald's one.

00:22:21.24
Mike
Yes.

00:22:23.36
Bill
I mean, i'm I'm sitting there, I'm like, literally these commercials are back from between 81 and 84, 85, like the first few that I listened to. Every goddamn one of them.

00:22:34.24
Bill
There might be one that I didn't know. And I mean, all of them were just they're so goddamn stupid, but they're catchy, you know.

00:22:36.05
Mike
Right.

00:22:40.20
Bill
And I mean, I remembered fucking every single one of them.

00:22:40.57
Mike
Yeah.

00:22:43.43
Mike
Yeah.

00:22:43.64
Bill
And I'm like, Jesus fucking Christ. But I mean, commercials these days, I mean, I don't when you see commercials half the time, people are trying to be so fucking clever or trying to be, you know, clever.

00:22:55.45
Bill
I have no idea what these commercials are about. They're funny sometimes, but there's nothing to make you remember it like these fucking stupid ass jingles, you know?

00:22:58.04
Mike
Yeah, sure.

00:23:03.45
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:23:04.70
Bill
You know, I mean, if I just said, hold the pickles, hold the lettuce. I mean, you know what I'm talking about.

00:23:08.01
Mike
Yeah, it's Burger King.

00:23:08.82
Bill
Yeah, of course you do.

00:23:10.78
Mike
Right. i can still write I can still give you the ingredients of a Big Mac.

00:23:15.86
Bill
yeah Oh yeah.

00:23:15.96
Mike
To all be patty, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

00:23:16.92
Bill
Yeah.

00:23:20.44
Bill
Yeah, exactly.

00:23:21.88
Mike
Sure. Yeah.

00:23:23.29
Bill
Exactly. And then, you know, for for a while there, they went to like, like obviously Nike just uses, I mean, their advertisement has been great over the years. I mean, now just that everyone knows that the swoosh is, you know, that's, that's Nike.

00:23:34.65
Bill
But I mean, Amazon's got that same type of, you know, like just mouth smile type of thing.

00:23:37.37
Mike
yeah

00:23:39.65
Bill
So, you know, it's Amazon, but the other one they used to, the first time I saw it, I'm like, that's great. They've gotten now just a visual advertising is the, it was a, um, a coffee cup.

00:23:51.76
Bill
Tilted with a blue background and a drip of coffee coming off of it. Do you remember what what that was for?

00:23:56.18
Mike
Maxwell House.

00:23:56.76
Bill
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Good to the last drop. Right.

00:24:00.32
Mike
Yeah.

00:24:00.80
Bill
And I'm like, when when you can do that, like Nike did at Maxwell House and these other these other companies like this, they could just, um you know, well, McDonald's now they just do the bottom up up up by everyone knows that jingle now.

00:24:12.74
Mike
Right.

00:24:13.32
Bill
So I guess Let me, I'll step back in that.

00:24:13.80
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:24:15.36
Bill
There are some that that's a jingle that people know, but like you said, fucking ingredients for a Big Mac.

00:24:16.58
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:24:21.52
Bill
I know how to make a Big Mac because I listen to the goddamn commercial.

00:24:23.67
Mike
I do. I've never eaten one, but I know what they're made of.

00:24:27.50
Bill
You've never eaten a Big Mac?

00:24:28.90
Mike
Nope. That was a quarter pounder guy.

00:24:29.62
Bill
Really? Okay. I mean, I like quarter pounders too, but I don't, I got into quarter pounders. I think were the first thing that I, that I probably while hamburgers at McDonald's years ago, but hamburgers and cheeseburgers, but um yeah, quarter pounders with cheese.

00:24:43.03
Bill
I used to really love it. Ben yeah. Big Macs. I used to eat all the time. but So you never get, that's crazy.

00:24:47.58
Mike
I have never eaten a Big Mac.

00:24:50.01
Bill
Okay. That's ah again, I've known you for all these years and that, that you just, you surprised me out of, out of all the things that you might surprise me at.

00:24:53.44
Mike
right all right okay

00:24:57.52
Bill
Yeah.

00:24:57.82
Mike
right

00:25:00.25
Bill
So anyhow, so, oh, I got amy Amy Winehouse. Let me write that down. I got another thing I heard about Amy Winehouse the other day.

00:25:04.98
Mike
yeah all right

00:25:06.92
Bill
I want to ask you a question about that because you might know.

00:25:08.86
Mike
and okay

00:25:10.22
Bill
But, okay, before I get into that, though, um anything – I'm tangenting. Tangent.

00:25:16.70
Mike
Tangent? Yes, we have gone way off script here.

00:25:17.75
Bill
Tangenting.

00:25:20.12
Mike
for we did I think we're on page 64.

00:25:24.26
Bill
Okay.

00:25:25.20
Mike
Yes, the reading. great Be honest. Be honest with love.

00:25:29.24
Bill
Okay. All right. So we're at rub with, where

00:25:32.54
Mike
With yourself and everyone else.

00:25:35.45
Bill
with, with rub and combine. almost said with rub, riff, rub, riff, rub and compassion.

00:25:39.08
Mike
Right. All right, Scooby.

00:25:42.63
Bill
rough All right. So, um, quick side note, Amy Winehouse, uh, cause it was a, it was on a podcast. They were, they, they brought her, brought her name up, but Um, so, and they, they looked it up and so she died of, it was, was it alcohol and drugs or just alcohol poisoning?

00:25:49.84
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

00:25:58.52
Bill
Cause the, the thing they read was alcohol poisoning, but then they, they read the, um, blood alcohol content, which I don't know if you knew.

00:26:03.72
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:26:04.91
Bill
Um, but, um, do you, do you remember that?

00:26:05.14
Mike
me

00:26:07.70
Bill
Was it just alcohol that killed her or was it both?

00:26:09.82
Mike
I mean, yeah, I think the final thing was just, yeah, she, alcohol poisoning, I believe.

00:26:17.14
Bill
Okay.

00:26:17.18
Mike
I mean, she did plenty of drugs, but, um yeah, I think that's what finally took her out.

00:26:17.38
Bill
Right.

00:26:19.64
Bill
Right.

00:26:22.55
Bill
Well, because to begin with what they were talking about, um they were thinking that that she had died trying to withdraw, which it wasn't. um You know, because that's where the conversation was coming to that, you know, obviously alcohol withdrawal and blah, blah, blah.

00:26:31.38
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:26:33.59
Bill
But then, you know, they looked it up and there was just a one-liner thing. They're like, oh, yeah, she she died of alcohol poisoning. But you know this is the part that I'm i'm just like, God, really?

00:26:38.77
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:26:41.72
Bill
Because, again, scary knowing where where you and I ended up when we went to detox.

00:26:44.49
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:26:45.20
Bill
But it was like 0.1 or I'm sorry, 0.41 or 0.42, something like that. So less than both of us.

00:26:50.99
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:26:53.00
Bill
And it fucking killed her. You know, and I'm not meaning to laugh, but, um you know, I'm just like, Jesus Christ, hang on.

00:26:55.44
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:27:02.94
Bill
That was a cough.

00:27:04.09
Mike
but Okay. worries.

00:27:04.59
Bill
was trying not to, if, if I, yeah, if I, if I do that, I'm i'm sorry about that. I just, I get this, I've got a, I've got a lozenge here.

00:27:08.89
Mike
no race

00:27:10.98
Bill
I've got some coffee, but yeah I didn't want to cough into the microphone. So, so the, um but yeah, I mean, it just, I was like, I'm like, Jesus Christ, you know, cause we joke about, you know, that I was point where you were 0.42.

00:27:14.74
Mike
Gotcha. for fashion

00:27:21.22
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:27:21.77
Bill
was 0.44. You were whatever it was.

00:27:23.67
Mike
Yep. What's up?

00:27:26.10
Bill
we point four a lot you know going into

00:27:27.67
Mike
Yes. We had a lot of booze in us.

00:27:29.75
Bill
And enough, I mean, the doctor you know fucking told me or told Kathy, you know they're like yeah, if he wouldve kept you would have kept this up, you know if it didn't kill him, he would have just been wandering around and you know fucking brain dead and you know like ah like some zombie at some point.

00:27:33.66
Mike
Yeah.

00:27:40.87
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:27:43.63
Bill
And you know if he if it didn't kill him, you know he would have just been you know not knowing who the fuck he was or where he was or or whatever.

00:27:44.07
Mike
Yep.

00:27:48.89
Mike
is

00:27:49.79
Bill
And I'm just like, Jesus Christ. i mean But then again, i mean then I'm like... And this is how stupid it is. And this was yesterday. I think I heard this um in my head. I'm like, I'm like, oh, but she's a woman. She was smaller.

00:28:00.72
Bill
She's whatever.

00:28:01.02
Mike
Sure.

00:28:01.24
Bill
I mean, but I mean,

00:28:01.38
Mike
No, you're right. Yeah, my my head went there too.

00:28:04.09
Bill
Yeah, and it's like, it's like Jesus Christ, you fucking dumbass. You still had more alcohol in your body than she did. You should have been in a fucking coma, you fuckhead.

00:28:12.33
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:28:12.75
Bill
And I'm like, yeah again, glad that I don't have to have the deal with that today. So that was that was a side note, but it was alcohol related.

00:28:19.51
Mike
Sure.

00:28:19.79
Bill
But I don't remember when. Do you remember when she died? i didn't remember what it was.

00:28:25.46
Mike
ah Probably. This is before we got sober, right? So probably close to 20 years.

00:28:34.23
Bill
God, was was it really? I mean, we could oh could look up on the old Google machine here.

00:28:35.53
Mike
Yeah, it's got to be.

00:28:40.66
Mike
You could.

00:28:42.65
Bill
Hang on one second.

00:28:44.12
Mike
Sure.

00:28:44.44
Bill
When did Amy Winehouse die?

00:28:44.89
Mike
You know.

00:28:48.14
Bill
July 23, 2011. Yeah.

00:28:50.87
Mike
Oh, so it was after.

00:28:53.40
Bill
yeah Yep.

00:28:54.01
Mike
Yeah, okay.

00:28:54.92
Bill
July 23, 2011. So yeah, within, well, a year and a couple of months after we got sober a few.

00:28:58.62
Mike
All right, 15 years ago.

00:29:00.76
Bill
Yeah, literally. Wow. Okay. But, um, I mean, I, and again, I, I remembered it, but I didn't remember. i mean, again, something else is on the podcast. I was listening to that. They were talking about timing and whoever they were talking to the guys, like he goes, listen, he goes, everything to me is six or seven years ago.

00:29:16.90
Bill
you i don't know.

00:29:17.37
Mike
Right.

00:29:17.96
Bill
Cause I no idea.

00:29:18.13
Mike
Right.

00:29:19.34
Bill
And I'm like, that's exactly what I do. I'm like, I don't know. Handful of months ago, 18 months ago, six, seven, eight months, you know, if it whether it was eight months or eight years, I i don't fucking know anymore.

00:29:24.47
Mike
Sure.

00:29:28.31
Mike
Right. I mean, well, I mean, i I have to, everything I do, I like, is it before I got sober or after I got sober?

00:29:35.93
Bill
Right.

00:29:36.85
Mike
Cause yeah, you know, that's kind of, it's the demarcation point in my life.

00:29:37.50
Bill
hey

00:29:42.14
Mike
So it's yeah.

00:29:42.84
Bill
Right.

00:29:43.50
Mike
Is is it pre or post? Um, well, all That's why I can't remember it.

00:29:48.54
Bill
Well, and I, I've done this.

00:29:50.02
Mike
It was before I got sober.

00:29:51.87
Bill
I literally, was just going to say the same thing. Cause if I'm watching, if I, if I go to watch a movie or something like that and I don't remember it, and then I'm like, did I watch this before?

00:29:57.39
Mike
Mm-hmm. yeah Right. Have I seen this, right?

00:30:01.75
Bill
yeah Before I got sober.

00:30:02.01
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:30:03.17
Bill
Cause I had that happen a couple of times. And even right now watching the following, I'm in the second season now, probably, I don't know, episode four or five, whatever the deal was.

00:30:04.87
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:30:10.50
Mike
Yeah.

00:30:11.03
Bill
Um, and I mean, there's again, bits and pieces. I mean, clearly I was sober, you know, when I was watching, when I was watching this stuff, but Um, it just, it's been, it's been 10 fucking years, you know, apparently had a lot a lot of, you know, stuff pile onto my brain that I don't remember all of it, but it is, it's, it's kind of sort of like watching something new ish, you know, cause I remember, I know the concept of whatever, but I'm like, I'm like, oh, that's fucking gross.

00:30:15.72
Mike
Sure. Right.

00:30:20.44
Mike
Yeah.

00:30:23.49
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:30:30.30
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:30:35.62
Bill
That's fucking awesome.

00:30:36.28
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:30:36.74
Bill
You know?

00:30:36.82
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:30:37.62
Bill
and it's just like, I don't, I don't remember it, you know, but, uh, and that's kind of a treat.

00:30:37.64
Mike
There it

00:30:41.94
Bill
So, All right. But I got, uh, I got a couple of, uh, podcast things. We can talk about the, the newborn here in the, in a little bit, but so obviously we know that, uh, um, you know, four years of doing this little thing, which is, which is lovely.

00:30:48.44
Mike
is.

00:30:54.65
Mike
it is

00:30:55.93
Bill
Um, but I, I looked up just out of curiosity. So I looked up the, the guy that told us that 90% of podcast shit, right? Because I'm like, I would be kind of fun to bring up ah bring up his name or try to find his emails. um And I found him.

00:31:11.64
Bill
So I actually found that the first one, this one was, so for anyone out there, i don't know if this guy, this guy looks, he's he's got his picture on his on his email too.

00:31:12.17
Mike
Ah, nice.

00:31:21.39
Bill
He looks like a fucking douchebag too. I mean, he is a douchebag, but I'm just saying he looks like one on top of that.

00:31:26.04
Mike
Right.

00:31:27.33
Bill
So if anyone else wants to play along, his name is Alex, A-L-E-X, San Filippo, S-A-N-F-I-L-I-P-P-O.

00:31:27.37
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:31:36.47
Bill
I didn't try to click into his links or anything anymore, so i don't know if he's still around. but So we got this first email on April 4th of 22.

00:31:40.89
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:31:45.19
Bill
So, I mean, what is that, a month and a week, couple of weeks? Yeah.

00:31:48.73
Mike
Right.

00:31:49.43
Bill
You know, so it's probably why I even, you know, gave him a little bit of, little bit of thought because I didn't know anything at that. I know, I know, I don't, I don't know a lot now, but you know,

00:31:55.06
Mike
Yes. yes Yeah, we were still talking into our phones. Yeah.

00:32:02.42
Bill
so he's like, Hey, my name is Alex Sanpilipo. I found sober, not mature on Apple and wanted to reach out about something that my, or something that my company pod matches the name his company, POD match pod match just started doing that may interest you podcast host now get paid.

00:32:13.93
Mike
Kind of,

00:32:19.99
Bill
um to interview guests from Podbatch.

00:32:20.85
Mike
right?

00:32:22.19
Bill
Do you remember this?

00:32:22.58
Mike
ahha yeah kinda right

00:32:25.30
Bill
So keep me good safe. I'll explain more here, and that's where he had the link to his thing. But he believed this change is going to revolutionize podcasting industry, hosts getting paid should become the new standard. We already had, this is out the one, I just still can't believe this.

00:32:37.62
Bill
We've already had 27,329 podcasters join, and I'd be honored if you'd check us out too. Keep up the great work with your show, blah, blah, blah.

00:32:44.41
Mike
this

00:32:46.32
Bill
So that's when I went on um And I emailed him back. i'm like, yeah I'll definitely check it out. you know And um I ended up going on going on there and listening to his his thing.

00:32:51.16
Mike
Sure, sure.

00:32:56.42
Bill
And this is where he was, he's like, you know, kind of like the, hey, 90% of all, within the first probably sentence, I think,

00:33:02.98
Mike
Okay.

00:33:03.76
Bill
90% of all podcasts, you know, fail in the first year. And I'm like, wait, what? So, of course, you know, that's his that's his little, you know, his little hook.

00:33:08.26
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:33:11.30
Mike
ahha

00:33:12.41
Bill
So started listening and in all this different stuff. Yeah, people don't make it past whatever, the certain number of episodes and blah, blah, blah. You know, whatever it was, I think it was, you know, we we could join this thing. And he was, um you know, basically saying it was it was some really ridiculous, small amount of money.

00:33:28.50
Bill
And I remember you and I talked about it I'm like, on top of this guy being a dick, this is what it was going to pay out, you know?

00:33:28.84
Mike
Right.

00:33:32.94
Mike
Yeah,

00:33:34.10
Bill
And we're like, yeah, we'll we'll we'll be fine.

00:33:36.06
Mike
yeah Right.

00:33:36.47
Bill
So um then the next email that he sent to us was June 25th of 23. I didn't find the one that he sent to us because you remember he sent us one last year when I was out there

00:33:47.98
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:33:48.44
Bill
just this past like September, October area, you know, so it was relatively recent, but here's his second email.

00:33:50.30
Mike
Right.

00:33:53.90
Bill
So a year and two months later, right? Hey, I found sober, not mature on the Apple podcasts.

00:33:58.77
Mike
Mmm.

00:34:00.50
Bill
And then he's like, as a fellow podcast, I want to reach out. Um, how's the show going? Blah, blah, blah. Uh, pod match, blah, blah, blah. This and that recorded the short video. Check it out. So at one point in this stuff, he, he referred to his thing. He goes, think of this as like Tinder for podcasting or something like that. Or I don't know where I read it now, but I'm just like, you're just, you're just such a fucking fool.

00:34:24.82
Bill
But so when I wrote him back, I'm like, I remember you. I said, you're the one that had the YouTube video that said 90% of podcasts fail in the first year. and said, we talked about it in early episode of ours and basically said it was bullshit.

00:34:31.63
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:34:36.14
Bill
We made it a goal to prove you wrong.

00:34:36.91
Mike
Nice. Mm-hmm. Great.

00:34:39.80
Bill
That was literally what I said to him.

00:34:41.50
Mike
nice

00:34:42.30
Bill
And I said, we've been we've been running since February 22, doing pretty well, not a huge podcast, blah, blah, blah. Listeners engage. All that being said, I did look at your offer at the time. We're not interested. We had really good success finding guests on our own.

00:34:53.94
Mike
is

00:34:53.98
Bill
Thank you, but no thank you. So he ran.

00:34:55.96
Mike
right

00:34:57.34
Bill
This is where it's like, uh, ha ha. What's up, Bill? I love this email. Can you send me that early episode? I'd love to check it out.

00:35:04.98
Mike
so so

00:35:05.37
Bill
And then he's like, he's like, I pulled the date again. He goes right now. You people have you people is what he called us. Now, first of all, he starts off with fellow podcaster, right? But then he refers to us as you people.

00:35:14.58
Mike
ahha

00:35:18.52
Bill
Fuck you, you fucking douchebag.

00:35:20.15
Mike
right

00:35:20.92
Bill
I should post this dick on Instagram. you sit down um This email, you can see his picture. um But he's like, yeah, send me the episode, blah, blah, blah. But yeah, 8.84% was the percentage.

00:35:30.52
Mike
send the episode why don't you fucking go look for it dickhead

00:35:33.30
Bill
You know, you know, it's funny. You said the same exact, the literally the same exact sentence I know for.

00:35:37.44
Mike
I'm consistent.

00:35:38.58
Bill
yeah I know for a fucking fact you did.

00:35:39.00
Mike
Yeah.

00:35:40.18
Bill
Cause you said, uh, uh, people have a chance of making it to 50 episodes. I love that you've been up to the top percentage says a lot about you. Keep up the great work. Wow. Whatever. But I like you fucking idiot.

00:35:48.92
Mike
Why don't you work the left one for a while?

00:35:50.26
Bill
But, um, but yeah, so I thought, I thought And then like then literally, ah ah you know, he did. He sent us that ah just less than, well, probably a year ago now, um you know, whatever it was.

00:36:01.08
Mike
right.

00:36:02.26
Bill
Yeah, it wasn't this past October. It's like a year ago. October sent us another one. So you figure what June of or no, that would have been no June of 24 or no October 24. So I'm like this, this dumb motherfucker, just get, I'm like, get up, get off my jack, bitch.

00:36:16.44
Mike
Right.

00:36:17.91
Bill
All right. So, um, I also came across this other thing. and And again, this came through, i don't even know where this came through. Um, so we're, everyone knows we're audio only. Okay. And we've talked about the video sort of thing and, and all that stuff.

00:36:29.59
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:36:30.48
Bill
There was a, there's two things on here, two articles I found. and i don't remember how I came across it. Um, Okay, so it was talking about um audio, and that's what I did.

00:36:41.69
Bill
I did a search on the the effectiveness of audio versus video podcasts, right?

00:36:47.28
Mike
Okay.

00:36:48.25
Bill
So I was just kind of curious, and I did so a Google search on it. Because again, was thinking about all these things over this past week or so with this um whole thing coming up.

00:36:54.80
Mike
Yeah.

00:36:56.20
Bill
But it's like, while video, particularly on YouTube, offers faster growth and better diversability, audio-only podcasts thrive due to lower production barriers, intimate listener connection, and the convenience of multi multitasking for consumers.

00:37:05.02
Mike
Yeah.

00:37:12.09
Bill
Success hinges on content quality and consistency, not just format.

00:37:15.13
Mike
she Well, all right, we tried.

00:37:19.77
Bill
What? Can you hear me?

00:37:21.02
Mike
Yeah.

00:37:22.58
Bill
Oh, okay.

00:37:22.58
Mike
Can you hear me?

00:37:23.77
Bill
Yeah, I can hear you.

00:37:25.00
Mike
right. said, yeah, we tried.

00:37:26.90
Bill
Oh, yeah. Oh, I thought you meant like we tried is like it is which you couldn't hear me. So sorry about that. No, I thought I thought I cut out. But no. So the um but yeah, I mean, what what struck me is cool was exactly what our thoughts are is what was just read back to us, you know, and, you know, it hinges on content quantity or quality and consistency, not just format.

00:37:42.59
Mike
Right.

00:37:47.61
Bill
So that's cool. And then, you know, lower production barriers, which that is what it is. The intimate listener connection.

00:37:52.22
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:37:53.22
Bill
Mark Barron talked about that all the time.

00:37:55.10
Mike
Right.

00:37:55.26
Bill
um and the convenience of multitasking for computers, which are consumers, which is what you and I talk about.

00:37:59.00
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:38:00.89
Bill
It's like, if you want to fucking you know listen to a podcast, I don't want to sit in front of a goddamn computer screen or phone screen and you know fucking watch two people talk.

00:38:01.34
Mike
Right.

00:38:04.79
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:38:07.86
Bill
you know

00:38:08.28
Mike
Yeah, exactly. Yeah.

00:38:11.42
Bill
So I just i thought that was, I don't know, that was just nice. It was just kind of a you know i not that we really need you know the, the you know hey, you guys are doing you're doing what you're what you're doing type of thing, but it it

00:38:17.12
Mike
Yeah.

00:38:21.08
Mike
Yeah. Well, we already know we're doing what we're doing.

00:38:23.16
Bill
But it kind of, it kind of, it put, it put our words out.

00:38:24.06
Mike
a

00:38:26.64
Bill
Our, our words are out there already. You know, our thought pattern is that we're not the only ones thinking this thing.

00:38:28.54
Mike
isn't

00:38:30.44
Bill
So, so here's the other thing.

00:38:30.68
Mike
Exactly.

00:38:32.63
Bill
So on feed spot, which is where we get ranked. Um, and we're, we're usually right we usually uh, we usually, um, our, our ranking is either two or three.

00:38:37.77
Mike
on my own.

00:38:42.97
Bill
Hang on one second. One more time.

00:38:47.26
Bill
All right, good. wo We're usually in the like the two or three spot um you know in the feed spot area, but they listed us out as a...

00:38:49.13
Mike
Nope.

00:38:52.16
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:38:56.95
Bill
um We're usually listed as long form. So we've heard of the term long form you know versus just regular shortterm or short form podcasting.

00:38:59.60
Mike
Mm-hmm. Sure.

00:39:04.29
Mike
Sure.

00:39:05.69
Bill
were labeled now and it just it randomly saw it, or I randomly saw it as an extended format.

00:39:11.07
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:39:11.16
Bill
And I'm like, so what the fuck does that mean? So I looked it up. So extended format podcasts or long forms, same term, generally feature in-depth, unedited or minimally edited conversations interviews or narratives lasting for one to four hours.

00:39:18.57
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:39:24.05
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

00:39:28.38
Bill
Okay. So popularized show like Joe Rogan experience, obviously he goes two, three hours, whatever the case is.

00:39:34.46
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:39:34.64
Bill
I know Dax Shepard does somebody, that there's a couple other people that do, um but they, they used him as example. But so these podcasts that they're talking about long form or extended form, they foster deep, authentic engagement, allowing for nuanced discussion and intimate connections.

00:39:50.07
Bill
Perfect for listeners seeking deep dive content. Okay. I mean, i don't necessarily, it's a corporate term, deep dive, blah, blah, blah. But, you know, we we get what we, we we know what we're talking about.

00:39:56.63
Mike
Right. all right

00:39:59.42
Mike
yeah

00:39:59.46
Bill
um These shows often use a freeform conversational approach, permitting topics to be explored thoroughly rather than quick sound bites, which is what we do, especially with a guest, you know.

00:40:08.54
Mike
Right. Right.

00:40:11.48
Bill
um target audience perfect for commutes, long drives, multitasking as the audio medium allows listeners stay engaged, interviews, educational, blah, blah, blah. um Long form content encourages a stronger, more dedicated and loyal audience, which I thought was interesting.

00:40:26.39
Bill
so I never thought about that before.

00:40:26.96
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:40:28.19
Bill
um But it says there is a notable trend towards longer marathon style podcasts, resisting the quick content nature of TikTok or Instagram. And I'm like, you know, that that's kind of funny because if people are moving towards that, which I didn't fucking know, when did we start?

00:40:37.36
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:40:43.67
Mike
Right.

00:40:44.86
Bill
We hit the hour mark. I mean, easily within the first, I don't know a handful of episodes, I think.

00:40:49.24
Mike
Oh, yeah, absolutely. Mm-hmm.

00:40:50.66
Bill
And I don't even remember who it was. One of our guests fucking ran long. And then we're like, well, we went, ah we went an hour and 15 with this person. Let's see if we can do an hour and a half.

00:40:58.53
Mike
Yeah.

00:40:59.14
Bill
And we did.

00:40:59.21
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

00:41:00.06
Bill
um But the the other thing too, was and here's the other thing that I thought was interesting with this. So don't remember why I read it because I'm not seeing it right here. But it said that the one thing to be mindful of with either long form or extended form podcasts is that sometimes you won't get when it comes to the podcast numbers.

00:41:18.66
Bill
Remember when I said we get a lot of, we'll get like ah a full play, we'll get a smaller number than, you know, like um streams versus downloads, I think is what they do. So like a download would be a complete play theoretically through Spotify where a stream is a part of, you know, to a certain point.

00:41:34.06
Bill
So we may get 100 streams and 25 plays, okay?

00:41:39.55
Mike
Right.

00:41:39.72
Bill
Which means 25 people listen to the whole thing, but 100 people listen to a good portion of it. And it said that, that that's what these long form podcasts. A lot of times people do that. They'll get into a certain part of the the show and then either they don't come back to it, just human nature, or, you know, they, maybe they've had enough, you know, I mean, that, that was my, that was my take on that part of it, but, um but they're saying it's, it's natural.

00:41:53.53
Mike
Mm-hmm. Sure. Sure.

00:42:01.27
Mike
sure

00:42:04.26
Bill
So the, the fact that our numbers, know, line up that way is exactly how they should, which again was just, I, I had never, I never thought about that before.

00:42:14.66
Bill
You know, that I never thought the reason why somebody wouldn't, because I'm one that, not that I, but that I never, you know, miss going back to the, the end of an episode, but it's rare.

00:42:25.26
Bill
You know, I'd say probably 80% the,

00:42:25.78
Mike
Right.

00:42:27.64
Bill
um podcast episodes I listen to, I listen sooner or later, listen to the whole goddamn thing, you know?

00:42:31.86
Mike
Sure.

00:42:32.48
Bill
But it could be over number nights or even a couple of weeks if I'm just doing the car, you know?

00:42:36.41
Mike
Right. Yeah. Right.

00:42:38.17
Bill
So I don't know. They were just interesting things to me that once again, not that we necessarily need the reassurance of what we're doing, but it gives us, I don't know.

00:42:45.14
Mike
e

00:42:48.25
Bill
what's It's just kind of like, Hey, you know what? Yeah. What they're the, in the mainstream thing over here, you know, they're they're they're talking about what we're already doing, which is kind of which is kind of cool to me, you know?

00:42:57.40
Mike
Right. Yeah, exactly. So, yeah, so we're not just completely like out of our minds and in the middle of the woods where nobody's around and yeah doing something so unique that is insane.

00:43:02.30
Bill
he

00:43:06.26
Bill
if

00:43:10.46
Mike
Right.

00:43:10.78
Bill
Right, right.

00:43:11.16
Mike
Yeah.

00:43:12.25
Bill
Yeah, it's, I mean, we're're we we can be, as as you put it, we can be punk rock, but we're not some punk rock that nobody's listening to, and we're all alone in in the basement not playing to anybody.

00:43:19.64
Mike
Yeah, exactly.

00:43:22.90
Mike
Exactly.

00:43:25.88
Bill
So the one thing that I've, that I'm curious though, is that, um, you know, anyone that's, that's listened to us for, um, a while, even, well, I don't, I don't care. I don't care how long you've listened. We, I know we joke sometimes, you Hey, email us at, but here's the thing.

00:43:38.33
Mike
Yeah.

00:43:39.37
Bill
I would be very, very interested. And I think hopefully you would be too, Mike, um, how people started listening to us.

00:43:42.90
Mike
Yeah.

00:43:46.15
Bill
If you, if you have a minute, um, and you know, um,

00:43:46.62
Mike
Right.

00:43:50.62
Bill
where you found us, you know?

00:43:51.77
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:43:52.02
Bill
So, or how, ah this so how long you've been listening to us, where you found us? And maybe, I don't know. I mean, it's, it's funny. We joke about it, but why, why do you, why do you still listen to us? i mean, I know why I listen to podcasts.

00:44:00.82
Mike
Right.

00:44:02.42
Bill
it It blows my mind sometimes.

00:44:02.43
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:44:04.02
Bill
I don't, I, I mean, of course i think we're fucking interesting. I think we're hilarious.

00:44:08.44
Mike
Yeah.

00:44:09.39
Bill
Yeah. I can barely say that without laughing, but, but you know what?

00:44:12.34
Mike
Yeah.

00:44:13.65
Bill
I mean, I, know I know, do know, and the other thing I want to do, because I, when I was doing all this stuff, I did a, um, a search on Gemini, which is Google's AI, um, about, I asked for a short review of our podcast and, and why, why we might be appealing.

00:44:27.48
Bill
So I might, if I think I could play that through my speaker, and it just, it'd be random, but I think it'd be fun to to listen to that real quick. We do that after the break if you want to, but, um,

00:44:35.38
Mike
Yeah.

00:44:36.72
Bill
i'm just I'd be really ah interested, especially this core this core group of people. i mean, clearly that's been listening to us for a while, you know or or whether it is, why don't just start listening?

00:44:41.49
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:44:45.56
Bill
Again, how long and how did you run across this? And um I don't know, what what do we do that's appealing to you? We're not gonna change.

00:44:50.87
Mike
Yeah. Right.

00:44:52.04
Bill
I mean, yeah, if if you i mean but we've said this before, if there's a topic that you wanna talk about,

00:44:52.31
Mike
Yeah. This is it.

00:44:59.35
Mike
Oh, absolutely.

00:45:00.73
Bill
even if it seems like something that we wouldn't talk about. And after the break, we'll tell you who our guest is next week. And this will maybe give you an idea of we're, we're, we're going, we're going off script next week.

00:45:07.70
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:45:11.77
Bill
You know, whatever, whatever our script is.

00:45:12.28
Mike
Right.

00:45:13.89
Bill
And I'll i'll tell you my initial thought and what Mike's Mike's thought was, but yeah, we can, we can talk about that afterwards, but please, if if anyone has a minute indulge us, it would be, it would be fun to hear that sort of thing about those things.

00:45:14.16
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:45:17.78
Mike
Yep.

00:45:25.13
Mike
Yeah.

00:45:27.55
Bill
So, okay.

00:45:28.22
Mike
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, we would like to hear from you. And yeah, yeah. Again, right. Like Bill said, they we're not changing anything. We're not going to do anything different.

00:45:35.64
Bill
Right.

00:45:36.30
Mike
But yes, we would we we want to know about you too. you know enough about us, God damn it.

00:45:42.36
Bill
Yeah, in our in our email address, seriously, it's it's simple. It's info at sobernotmature.com. Go to our website. You can email through there. Go to Instagram.

00:45:52.88
Bill
There's a link to it. Or just open up your whatever email service you use and type that little thing in there and you can get to us. so And yeah, we we will respond. More than likely on here because I'm not going to necessarily email back everyone, but it's easier to talk about it.

00:46:02.68
Mike
Right.

00:46:08.47
Bill
talk about it Listen in future episodes for your response.

00:46:11.32
Mike
That's right. That's right. Well, so it is about that time to take a little break.

00:46:15.61
Bill
a

00:46:16.58
Mike
And so we'll be right back after these words from our sponsors to hear what our computer AI overlords think about this little podcast.

00:46:35.58
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome back. So you do want to you want to hear about the AI stuff?

00:46:40.60
Mike
Yeah, yeah, what us you with the fucking bastards, what Skynet thinks about us.

00:46:46.59
Bill
Skynet. Okay.

00:46:47.42
Mike
Yeah.

00:46:47.54
Bill
Give me one second here. And I actually, I tested the volume before. so I'm like, God, if we, if we get around to this, I want to make sure the volume's right. So, all right. Give me one moment.

00:46:58.43
Mike
right, well, and we'll just remind everybody, this is our fourth anniversary.

00:47:04.22
Bill
Yes. hey

00:47:09.30
Mike
ah

00:47:09.66
Bill
I do like that.

00:47:09.83
Mike
Ugh, whatever. I'm ready.

00:47:11.74
Bill
So I do like that a lot. All right. So are you ready?

00:47:15.88
Mike
i'm ready

00:47:16.73
Bill
Okay. Hey, Google. This is how got to bring up this stupid thing. Hey, Google. God damn it. Now let's not bring it up. Hey, Google. Yeah, let me try this.

00:47:28.84
Bill
Let's see if this, I want to make sure it does it. Okay. There we go. Give me a review of the Sober Not Mature podcast.

00:47:41.85
Bill
The Sober Not Mature podcast is a raw, irreverent, and deeply authentic look at life and recovery. Hosted by Bill, the chief egotistical officer, and Mike, the chief obscenity officer, the show trades the hushed whispers of traditional recovery circles for a blend of high-energy banter, honest storytelling, and a healthy dose of sarcasm.

00:48:00.36
Bill
Here is a breakdown of what makes the show tick. Hash, hash, hash, the vibe. Raw, real, and hilarious. The podcast is often described by listeners as, quote, attending an AA meeting with your funniest friends.

00:48:12.76
Bill
It leans heavily into the idea that you can be serious about your sobriety without taking yourself too seriously. Irreverent humor. As the name suggests, the hosts don't claim to be mature.

00:48:23.61
Bill
Expect cussing, stupid banter, and stories that highlight the messy, unpolished side of staying sober. Relatability. It avoids being preachy or strident. Instead, it feels like eavesdropping on two guys who have been through the ringer and are now navigating daily life, relationships, work, and doomscrolling through a 12-step lens.

00:48:43.18
Bill
Hash, hash, hash. Typical format. While the show is unscripted and conversational, it usually follows a loose structure. One, the reading. Mike often starts the episode with a short reading, frequently centered on 12-step principles like honesty, faith, or asking for help to set the tone.

00:48:59.13
Bill
Two, the banter. The hosts catch up on their week, which can range from serious reflections on sobriety to random discussions about movies, music, or floor-to-man news stories. Three, guest interviews.

00:49:09.91
Bill
They frequently feature guests, ranging from fellow recovery podcasters to authors and artists. e.g. filmmaker Benjamin Flaherty or artist Jermaine Dante, exploring their personal journeys. Hash, hash, hash.

00:49:21.53
Bill
Why people love it. Community feel. Reviewers consistently mention that the show makes them feel less alone and provides an effective community for those starting out or maintaining long-term sobriety. Balanced perspective. Despite the immaturity, listeners note it provides a balanced plate of serious recovery stuff mixed with laughter.

00:49:38.90
Bill
The chemistry. the genuine friendship between Bill and Mike is the engine of the show. Their contrasting personalities, the willing participant versus the unwilling participant, create a natural comedic dynamic.

00:49:51.26
Bill
Hash, hash, hash. Summary table

00:49:56.17
Mike
Yes.

00:49:58.84
Bill
i I don't know. Does that does that make it sound decent? I mean, it was interesting enough. They actually went into more detail on this one than than they did the last time. But um it even went into the you know kind of why people listen, because that was going to be my second question.

00:50:11.16
Bill
But it it actually handled both of those within within one thing. But um the thing that cracked me up and it said it the first time, too, was a stupid banter. Yeah.

00:50:20.34
Mike
yes

00:50:21.60
Bill
ah But, I mean, you know it it picked up the fact, I mean, obviously the guests, some of the more recent guests that we've had, which I thought was interesting, um you know the um the reading, yeah the fact that it picked up the the reading, the the fact that that's our that's our structure and what the readings consist of and the fact that it does you know, set the tone for for these, because that that's the fact, you you know, I mean, the reading, whatever, whatever, whatever stupid shit we start out with, whatever fucked up shit is going on in our minds with very, very few exceptions, unless we have a guest, we still, whether life is really fucking good or, or feeling really shitty at a moment, you know, whatever the case is, we do the reading because like you said, what's your, what's your wording with the reading all the time?

00:50:27.50
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:50:33.77
Mike
Yeah.

00:50:41.94
Mike
Yeah.

00:50:46.68
Mike
Yep. Right. yelp

00:50:56.35
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yep.

00:51:01.53
Mike
Well, it's the consistency.

00:51:03.10
Bill
Other people's.

00:51:03.21
Mike
Well, yeah, good. Yeah, good. Other people's good thoughts, right?

00:51:05.69
Bill
hey

00:51:06.69
Mike
Exactly. Yeah, yeah.

00:51:08.28
Bill
Yeah, roll it around it in your head. And I mean, that's when when you first said that to me, I don't know if that was on here or you probably said that in group. i I'm guessing might have been the first time that I ever heard it.

00:51:16.15
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:51:18.56
Bill
But um that is the truth. I mean, the the whole idea to this to this recovery thing, in my opinion, that one of the backbone items, I think, is the fact that You know, we cannot, I know that, well, I can't, I cannot trust myself.

00:51:32.60
Bill
I can't trust my fucking thoughts.

00:51:33.55
Mike
right

00:51:34.24
Bill
Um, I don't want to, I don't want to, you know, trust my thoughts.

00:51:34.42
Mike
this is

00:51:38.46
Mike
exactly anymore right well yeah it's the reading the reading today right exactly our we lie to ourselves if we believe those fucking lies because we're idiots

00:51:38.78
Bill
I just don't fucking want to, you know? Right. Right.

00:51:49.66
Mike
So, yes, we need some good thoughts from outside sources. And yeah, exactly. Because ah clearly our way didn't work. Yeah. Like you said, it's the backbone of this of this program. And our recovery program is, yes, we need outside sources. we need We need something outside of ourselves to keep us sober because we could never do it on our own.

00:52:09.90
Bill
right yeah and it uh i don't know it just it it is it's uh it it's it's huge it's absolutely huge but i don't know i just thought it was kind of funny to you know kind of figure out that because you know the the thing of it is i mean what these um you know again the the whole point with it was that i was listening to you know this other podcast it really it was a more recent one that was you know i'll get into i've got a thing about the the guests that this individual is talking about but They're talking a lot about AI, you know, and and what might what might what it is, what it what it might be, what it could become.

00:52:35.96
Mike
Right.

00:52:40.06
Bill
And, you know, and I know you're not huge into it. I know you made up some pictures, which I saw you made some images with that.

00:52:43.86
Mike
there Yeah. Sure. Right.

00:52:46.75
Bill
um i mean, I live by it now with the with the images I'm doing rather than having to try to build these things through Canva, although I still do.

00:52:49.78
Mike
sure

00:52:52.28
Mike
is

00:52:53.87
Bill
Um, but I mean, it's, it's lit. I can get these, these pictures. I throw a couple of our, you know, our logo and a couple of pictures of you and I in there. And I can, I can build these images that are great, you know, for, you know, obviously for, um, know, social media and with all the stuff that the Kathy and I are looking at with this, with this whole, you know, business venture, um, it's been invaluable, you know, now, now granted, I know you said this, but you, you, You Chris were looking up the fact when Ozzie died, right?

00:53:00.82
Mike
right

00:53:15.15
Mike
Right.

00:53:20.66
Bill
you know like Saying that Ozzie wasn't dead.

00:53:21.08
Mike
Right.

00:53:22.86
Bill
um i don't have an answer for that. I haven't ran into a and it ran into a situation.

00:53:25.34
Mike
he

00:53:27.54
Bill
And I wouldn't defend anything that's wrong like that. Because here's the other thing that was brought up. on this podcast that I was listening to, they're like, they're like, so so here's the deal, you know, these, these AI bots and whatever, whatever, whatever artificial intelligence is and how it's being used and it's growing and it's building and and all sorts of things, but worst case scenario.

00:53:44.83
Mike
Right.

00:53:47.69
Bill
And we, we all, we joked about it last week, you know, you got to the end of the internet, right? um

00:53:52.47
Mike
Right.

00:53:53.50
Bill
But you know, these, these AI bots and these AI programs, they can literally take everything, right?

00:54:00.22
Mike
Yeah.

00:54:00.44
Bill
fucking everything that's on the internet and put it in one place and decipher it and spit out an answer.

00:54:06.50
Mike
Right.

00:54:07.29
Bill
Now, everyone knows that the internet doesn't just have factual information, you know?

00:54:11.61
Mike
mm right

00:54:13.46
Bill
So, so clearly these things can get fooled, you know, and and I'll say fooled to the fact of, um, if you, if you see enough things like, ah, Ozzy's not dead or Ozzy's this or Ozzy's that, or, you know, whatever it is, Ozzy's got, you know, purple hair and in four teeth, whatever the case is, and all sudden you get this answer back and like, what the fuck is this?

00:54:17.44
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:54:32.15
Bill
You know, so a couple of things that I've done, it even said that, you know, it's like, you know, AI ai can make mistakes, you know, make sure you check check the work and blah, blah, blah.

00:54:38.66
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:54:40.99
Bill
But the the key there was is that, you know, the they were talking about like timeframes when all these different things were going to go, certain things were going to go into effect. And they started talking about like jobs, for instance, you know.

00:54:53.53
Bill
And they said, basically, um you know, in thinking about it logically, you know, like, can that be it? But then I thought about it more. And I'll tell you the side note thing to this. They said basically any job that if you're if you're literally just sitting in front of a computer dealing with um information and numbers and and even people, you know, um your job's probably going to be taken over, you know, or can be, you know.

00:55:13.95
Mike
Right. this is

00:55:15.21
Bill
So, you know, things like customer service, accountants, um anyone like, I mean, investors, you know, I mean, anything like that.

00:55:17.75
Mike
Sure.

00:55:22.30
Mike
Right.

00:55:23.96
Bill
um I mean, shit. I mean, the the job that I do, I know for a fact already there was a, individual that I trained at the the company I worked for in Madison when I first moved back to Wisconsin. And I've kept in touch with her only just briefly through LinkedIn. She'll post things every once in a while. And she was still at at the company, you know, whatever it was, 13, 12, 13 years later.

00:55:42.41
Bill
And she just posted within the last month or so that she got a new job with a different company. And I messaged her.

00:55:47.81
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:55:48.45
Bill
I'm like, I'm like, oh, I said, you left, you know, left the company. And she's like, yeah, she goes, I, she goes, I, I love them. had a great time and it was a good company. Um, but she said over the last six months, maybe a year, she said that they've taken away so much of our, of our business.

00:55:55.99
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:56:03.98
Bill
She was a collector. She said, they've taken so much of our business away and gave, given it to the AI side of the business.

00:56:05.24
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:56:09.66
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:56:09.70
Bill
She's like, I can't, I can't make any money anymore. You know, so what they're doing is they're directing people to the website.

00:56:12.16
Mike
Right.

00:56:16.25
Bill
And basically there's, you know, a certain amount of in automated systems have been in this in customer service and in this sort of thing for for years. But ai A.I.

00:56:25.08
Mike
Sure.

00:56:25.89
Bill
is a different story. You know, you can in I've had in the job that I do, i'm I'm calling and I'm trying to talk with businesses.

00:56:27.10
Mike
Right.

00:56:33.52
Bill
I've had I've had full two or three minute conversations with A.I.

00:56:33.59
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:56:37.16
Bill
bots.

00:56:37.78
Mike
I bet.

00:56:38.01
Bill
You know, and it's, um I know I'm talking to a fucking robot, you know, but they're asking questions or asking information and I can go through this long drawn out thing and they repeat it back and like, okay, I'm go leave this for this and this and this your phone.

00:56:41.82
Mike
Right?

00:56:51.58
Bill
number I'm like, no, no, no. My phone number actually ends in this and this is what I said about that. Oh, can you add this also? And they'll do the whole thing back again and just add those pieces in. It's pretty impressive, but also fucking creepy because I'm having a conversation with with a fucking robot.

00:57:02.94
Mike
Right? Yeah. species

00:57:07.99
Bill
You you know

00:57:08.25
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:57:09.99
Bill
So, you know, I know, I know things like, like my job, they've been talking about, well, you and I were talking about the, who were we with when we were at some holiday or someplace we were talking about the trucking industry. And I remember you said, you're like, you're like, ah, fuck it.

00:57:21.44
Bill
I'll be, I'll be either dead or out of the business before that happens.

00:57:23.70
Mike
Oh, yeah. Yeah, right.

00:57:25.72
Bill
You know, before they have all self-driving, because they're saying that, you know, trucking and logistics are going to be, you know, taking over.

00:57:28.44
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:57:31.04
Bill
I would think that the scheduling part of it, your, your fleet manager probably would, would be more, I don't want to say scared of losing his or her job, but, know,

00:57:37.57
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:57:38.98
Bill
I think a fleet manager could be out on the street more quicker than you would, you know, um you know, for all that, all that, I mean, scheduling, you know, what is, what is scheduling?

00:57:42.39
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:57:45.78
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah. The planners, right. I mean, the fleet manager has to deal with that has to be human to deal with us. um

00:57:52.60
Bill
Oh, okay. Okay.

00:57:53.34
Mike
Yeah, but um yeah, yeah, the planners, I mean, planning out the, but again, you know, that's all down the road a ways.

00:58:00.63
Bill
a

00:58:00.70
Mike
And yeah, i like I will, I'll be, I'll be dead. So it's fine.

00:58:04.76
Bill
a

00:58:08.06
Mike
But yeah, I mean, yeah, the self-driving trucks and stuff, sure. And especially, you know, well, the industry is... transforming over there's a lot more of what i do now than the the regular long haul stuff doesn't happen nearly as much as it used to i mean you know yeah yeah intermodal is they're putting the shit on trains because they can move you know they got one guy driving a truck with a box on the back of it you know, they could put hundred boxes on a train and move it a thousand miles instead of one guy with one box going a thousand miles.

00:58:26.27
Bill
Really?

00:58:39.74
Bill
Oh, yeah, yeah, right.

00:58:43.83
Mike
So yeah, you know, intermodal is, is it's moving that direction. Um, but yeah, you know, uh, I remember it was, um, it was like that last Wolverine movie.

00:58:55.98
Mike
I don't do superhero movies at all, but I happened to watch that one, whatever it was, uh, 10 years ago when it came out.

00:58:58.65
Bill
Right.

00:59:04.32
Mike
So I kind of like Hugh Jackman. I did read comic books when I was a kid. i always liked the X-Men and Wolverine, and he was cool. So I watched that movie, and there's ah there's a scene in that movie where there's self-driving trucks.

00:59:15.99
Mike
And I was like, oh, look at that. you know and And eventually, you know highway stuff, and you know you see the the doubles and the triples going down the turnpikes, um that shit will be self-driving trucks sooner than later.

00:59:30.29
Bill
Right.

00:59:31.18
Mike
yeah But you know for the stuff that I do and you know the the end and actually delivering it and you know backing into docks and the and the short stuff, that's that's going to be humans for ah very long time.

00:59:45.14
Mike
Because you can't. You can't fucking have a ah computer do that. Don't be too many people dying.

00:59:51.75
Bill
Right. Well, and that's even like trying to get these, these trucks and stuff through the cities that you've talked about that before that these, yeah, these little areas and little spots and trying to get people.

00:59:52.31
Mike
Yeah.

00:59:56.25
Mike
Yeah. Right.

01:00:00.54
Mike
Right.

01:00:01.17
Bill
Okay.

01:00:01.83
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:00:02.26
Bill
Well, and you know, the, um when I was in, in Phoenix and there's um the self-driving like Uber cars there, and I can't think of what they're, what they're called.

01:00:09.98
Mike
Right. Yeah, right.

01:00:11.81
Bill
There's a,

01:00:12.86
Mike
Yeah, there's a name for him. I know it, but I can't think of it either.

01:00:16.09
Bill
Yeah, and I want i want to say Waze, but Waze is the – that's the navigation app.

01:00:19.29
Mike
Yeah, right.

01:00:19.65
Bill
But it's something along that that line. Waze something, I think, is whatever it is.

01:00:21.59
Mike
easy

01:00:23.49
Bill
um And when when I first got there – and again, this was a year ago in January when I was in Phoenix. And I had never seen one before.

01:00:32.28
Mike
Right.

01:00:32.82
Bill
But they're all over fucking Phoenix. And to begin with, when I saw one and I thought it was because you've seen the the Google cars out there that are taking the pictures for Google Maps. you seen those?

01:00:42.06
Mike
Sure.

01:00:42.46
Bill
I mean, I've seen those for years. So that's what I thought it was. I'm like, well, that's kind of interesting because it has the same type of thing on top. You know, I mean, there's cameras and shit, I'm guessing. and sensors and whatever.

01:00:52.62
Bill
um And then I saw another one, then another one, another one. And then I don't know if i looked it up. However, I figured out what it was, but I'm like, Jesus Christ, it's crazy. um But but yeah, I mean, there are I guess they're all over in Vegas and shit like that now.

01:01:04.34
Mike
Right?

01:01:04.40
Bill
And they're like all over the fucking place.

01:01:05.04
Mike
Yeah. Waymo.

01:01:07.70
Bill
There you go.

01:01:07.74
Mike
I looked it up.

01:01:08.60
Bill
Okay.

01:01:08.90
Mike
Yeah.

01:01:09.16
Bill
Yeah, I knew, I thought it was, that's why I said, I keep wanting to say Waze or Waze something.

01:01:12.41
Mike
Yeah.

01:01:12.56
Bill
but Yeah, Waymo. Okay. um So that's already out there and they're, I guess they're doing really well, you know, I mean, and safety wise and bla bla blah, blah, blah.

01:01:18.30
Mike
Mm

01:01:20.64
Bill
And the thing that is that I, that I've heard, and I don't know percentages or anything like that, I understand from what you just said, the trucking part of it, 100% get it.

01:01:28.15
Mike
hmm.

01:01:29.38
Bill
But I think with the, with the cars right now, and say There's always a story about self-driving car did this or self-driving car did that.

01:01:36.36
Mike
hmm.

01:01:37.26
Bill
you know But then then they're like ah you know the the argument to that, which I can't disagree with, is you know well how many people-driven cars did that today?

01:01:37.53
Mike
Right.

01:01:46.84
Mike
Oh, yeah, right, exactly.

01:01:47.03
Bill
Yeah. you know Or the you know this the airplane crash. And I get it. 300 people will die in in one literally one fell swoop. But out of you know how many hundreds of thousands of of flights go up, so percentage-wise versus air travel is safer than car travel.

01:01:56.22
Mike
Right.

01:01:59.03
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:02:03.37
Bill
it's just It just fucking is.

01:02:04.00
Mike
Yeah, right.

01:02:04.77
Bill
you know um

01:02:05.28
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:02:06.65
Bill
But it's still, i mean I'm not afraid to fly, but i mean i'm i'm I'm afraid to crash. Yeah.

01:02:10.48
Mike
Yeah, yeah. Right. It's like I always say, I'm not afraid of heights. I'm afraid of gravity. Mm-hmm.

01:02:16.61
Bill
That's a, I don't think I've ever heard you say that before either.

01:02:19.13
Mike
Right. Uh-huh.

01:02:19.61
Bill
That's Jesus Christ.

01:02:20.09
Mike
Yeah.

01:02:20.53
Bill
I got to write that down. So that, and what is it? You ever, never had a big Mac before?

01:02:24.06
Mike
right

01:02:24.09
Bill
Jesus Christ. Fucking afraid of gravity and never had a big Mac. But, um, so I don't know how I got on this. So this whole fucking AI shit and self-driving cars, but it's, uh, it's just crazy. You know, that, um, the, the technology part, cause literally what I did is after i listened to this the other day,

01:02:40.84
Bill
because you know, obviously what, what Kathy and I are trying to do. and I looked that up.

01:02:43.57
Mike
isn't

01:02:43.98
Bill
I'm like, can a, will AI take away this? You know, that, cause I'm like, well, that'd be kind of fucking sucks, you know? And, or would it, I think I said, would it interfere or will it, whatever it was.

01:02:54.14
Bill
And it said, it's not completely, i didn't use the word immune to but I'm going to say that it's not that AI wouldn't be involved, but, what What AI is going to do is if if you use it right, you've got to be skilled in it.

01:03:01.56
Mike
Right.

01:03:05.82
Bill
So that the key is that you probably have to you know either use companies or programs or that sort of thing that are and have AI built in to enhance your business, or you're going to be fucked.

01:03:06.42
Mike
isnt

01:03:16.34
Bill
That's number one. But on top of that is that AI, like with Airbnbs and stuff like that, they said that people are going to be Like right now, somebody would go on to search for something, might go on Google or might go directly to Airbnb.

01:03:17.54
Mike
Yep.

01:03:29.22
Bill
They might just go to Google to search for a property, for instance, whereas people are going to start using ChatGPT and that sort of thing. They'll use AI to do searches because it's more of ah a curated search.

01:03:41.00
Bill
You get more info in one spot.

01:03:41.56
Mike
Sure.

01:03:42.76
Bill
So they're, they're telling you all these just ideas.

01:03:42.94
Mike
Right.

01:03:44.96
Bill
So I'm like, okay, I copied a couple these fucking articles and saved them, you know?

01:03:47.67
Mike
Yeah.

01:03:49.12
Bill
So, cause I'm like, I mean, wouldn't that be the fucking shit? They were talking about that too. They're like, think about this. So people who are, if you were, you know, a youngster, which neither of us are, and you're, you know, you're just getting out of either, you know, out of high school or maybe you did a two-year degree, maybe you're in a four-year college, whatever, wherever you are in life, but you're, you're starting down this path to do this for your career.

01:03:58.26
Mike
Right.

01:04:09.13
Bill
And then you're like, fuck, is this even going to be around in three years?

01:04:09.56
Mike
Right.

01:04:13.17
Bill
You know, that's kind of creepy.

01:04:13.34
Mike
mrs Right.

01:04:15.30
Bill
You know, when you when you think about that from these kids that trying to try to figure out what the fuck they're going to do with their lives.

01:04:15.74
Mike
Yeah.

01:04:19.84
Bill
But, you know, they like they said that they said, you know, chefs always going to be people are going to want to have, you know, nice food made for them and blah, blah, blah.

01:04:24.82
Mike
Sure.

01:04:27.41
Bill
They had other things. But I don't know, whatever it was, it was just kind of like, I mean, I'm sure there's I think there's there's probably podcast out there, you know,

01:04:35.58
Mike
Probably.

01:04:36.60
Bill
that That'd be funny. I might look into that someday and have it see if we could just have one of our episodes be completely fucking AI and see what it sounds like.

01:04:43.08
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:04:46.74
Bill
I think it'd be funny, if nothing else, just to just a fucking release some just jacked up AI episode.

01:04:51.64
Mike
yeah

01:04:52.02
Bill
of Welcome to the jacked up AI episode of Sobered Out But Sure. Now, the only thing, though, is I'd have to look into this pretty deeply because it would more than likely be

01:04:56.60
Mike
right

01:05:01.94
Bill
our voices, which could be dangerous. And I wouldn't want to do, I don't think I'd want to have AI, you know, clone our voices. I think we would have, I think my, my first thought there would have some, I don't know, do not computerized voices, but have, you know, voices that sound like us and say, Hey, this is Mike.

01:05:16.34
Mike
Right.

01:05:17.30
Bill
This is Bill.

01:05:17.66
Mike
i Okay, so we'll do like Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson.

01:05:18.21
Bill
Yeah.

01:05:22.48
Mike
Right.

01:05:25.02
Bill
ah That'd be fucking fun. Yeah. Then we'll get sued on top of it. Wouldn't that be great?

01:05:28.09
Mike
right

01:05:30.97
Bill
All right. So I think, I think enough about that was kind of, that was kind of podcast stuff and whatever. So you want, you want to hear about a baby. You want to hear about that?

01:05:38.26
Mike
You know what? I would love to hear about a baby.

01:05:40.92
Bill
Okay. So um for, for those that don't follow us on, on Instagram, um I have a, I have a new grandson as of Monday. His name is Theodore Lee.

01:05:51.37
Bill
you know Ted, Ted and stuff like that. I've got a story.

01:05:54.41
Mike
Yep.

01:05:55.01
Bill
I've got a story about it.

01:05:55.99
Mike
Okay.

01:05:56.09
Bill
They're um they're, they're going to go with it, with the Theo side of things, but there's a story.

01:05:58.97
Mike
Ah. Okay.

01:06:00.01
Bill
There's a story though, to the, um to the Ted and Teddy part, which I'll get to in a second, but um

01:06:04.54
Mike
Okay.

01:06:05.88
Bill
So he was born on born on Monday. I talked about this over last couple of weeks, but my daughter wanted to keep the date to herself and to their selves until it happened and then you know do things on their terms and who the fuck am I to say, no, I want to talk about the date, which I...

01:06:14.67
Mike
Yep. Right.

01:06:18.23
Mike
Yeah. Right.

01:06:23.42
Bill
I never would have done that anyhow. But um so, yeah, she went in and, up you know, he was he was born on the 23rd at roughly 11 a.m.

01:06:25.05
Mike
Right.

01:06:31.61
Bill
Central time, if we want to go that way.

01:06:32.00
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:06:33.93
Bill
Eight pounds, one ounce, 21 inches long. So good size kid. You know, he looks well, I mean, now just he looks so fucking small, you know, but.

01:06:38.34
Mike
Yeah.

01:06:41.53
Bill
um

01:06:41.64
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:06:42.94
Bill
you know, every, every, everyone's healthy. They had a couple of little scares. Kimmy had a little bit of a scare, like a blood pressure thing. he had a little bit of a scare with an oxygen thing brief, you know, but they, you know, obviously it was only for ah a very short amount of time, but both of them, both of them are fine.

01:06:48.76
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:06:51.88
Mike
Right, right.

01:06:56.86
Bill
You know, Kimmy's little sore, but they're all good.

01:06:57.67
Mike
Good. Mm-hmm.

01:06:59.46
Bill
But, And then, yeah, so I mean, I was I was there. I went up on. Well, I've been up in Wisconsin for a couple of weeks and I wanted to come up here just to make sure. I mean, if, you know, anything happened earlier, I wanted to be an area, then get myself settled in.

01:07:08.89
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:07:11.90
Bill
Because what I did was um I came back here to the Airbnb at work because I asked my daughter, I said, is that cool that I have to haul all of my shit over there?

01:07:12.33
Mike
Right.

01:07:20.46
Bill
You know, just more space here.

01:07:20.89
Mike
Right.

01:07:21.86
Bill
I could set up my work and I'll stay there. I'll pick him up and drop him off and I'll just come to work here. And that's what I did. Um, and then, uh, you know, as of, um, uh, Monday I was over there.

01:07:28.85
Mike
Yeah.

01:07:32.86
Bill
And so here was the thing. And she had asked me, she's like, so do you want to, do you want to come Sunday night? where She's like, we got to leave at like four 30 on Monday morning. And she said, um, you know, we're to sleep in the bed.

01:07:40.02
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:07:42.49
Bill
We got to have this and that blah, blah, blah. Can't have the dogs in there. She's like the way everything's set up right now, Ollie's got a bed in his room now and all this different. That's my, my now older grandson, the four-year-old.

01:07:51.60
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:07:51.65
Bill
Um, so really no place, right.

01:07:53.53
Mike
The elder statesman.

01:07:55.98
Bill
So really no place for me to, you know, put necessarily an air mattress, you know, their, their little, their little rented home now is getting full.

01:07:59.66
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

01:08:01.90
Bill
So I said, you know what?

01:08:02.54
Mike
Right.

01:08:02.74
Bill
I said, you tell me what time you want me to be there.

01:08:03.38
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:08:05.26
Bill
i'm like, I've gotten up early before. It doesn't matter.

01:08:07.70
Mike
Sure.

01:08:07.74
Bill
So, you know, I, left here at four in the morning, you know, I got over there at like, you know, whatever it was, 15, 15 minutes or a quarter after four, 20 after four on Monday, got up ungodly early.

01:08:08.02
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:08:17.72
Bill
I showered, did the whole thing. Cause I'm like this first day for running around my grandson, I readjusted my schedule for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday to work 10 AM m to three.

01:08:20.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:08:28.53
Bill
So I would have time to get, you know, do it, do the things with him, get back here and get cleaned up and then work. And then same thing, get done, make sure I go pick them up and all that stuff.

01:08:34.41
Mike
Right.

01:08:37.40
Mike
Right.

01:08:38.10
Bill
So got all that said, I took off on Thursday. So yesterday, cause that's what I knew. I would be obviously, you know, Theo and all that stuff. So, um, but anyhow, so I get i'm ungodly early.

01:08:48.74
Bill
I get there. Um, and I think I started to get my cold on Monday, but it could have been just tired. I was so fucking tired, just fucking wiped out tired, you know?

01:08:57.08
Mike
Right.

01:08:57.66
Bill
And I mean, it's not like I haven't gotten up like that. gotten up in the middle the night before, you know, plenty it right.

01:09:00.44
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, but it's not just you. Right. Yeah, I mean, it's it's you and. Right, exactly. You know, I'm getting too fucking old for this shit. Right.

01:09:09.78
Bill
I know. Yeah. Usually if nothing else, I mean, I'm just, you know, I just get in the car and I drive someplace.

01:09:11.09
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:09:13.42
Bill
If I get too tired, I can pull over and I can walk around for a minute.

01:09:13.53
Mike
right

01:09:15.54
Bill
I mean, don't have to, I don't really have to technically have to be someplace. I do, but I don't, you know, but so yeah, get over there.

01:09:19.67
Mike
please

01:09:21.29
Bill
And then, you know, Kimmy, literally, I don't even know if I told you this, but um she, um I mean, ah unbelievable the amount of time she said it took her, and her and Brian went over it.

01:09:31.70
Bill
It was a 15 page PDF document that she emailed to me for the entire week about everything, you know?

01:09:38.36
Mike
Right, right.

01:09:39.70
Bill
And she's like, she's like, I don't know how I keep all this stuff straight. I'm like, well, you do it every day, you know?

01:09:43.22
Mike
Yeah, exactly.

01:09:44.30
Bill
But I said, if you think about, yeah, I'm like, if you think about anything that you do, like for instance, if, if you, Mike, if you would, would you go to work tomorrow from the minute you get out of your,

01:09:45.02
Mike
It's your life.

01:09:52.37
Mike
Yeah, I'm not going to work tomorrow, but go ahead.

01:09:54.65
Bill
But but if if you were if you were going to work tomorrow, you know, and for the minute you get out of your car at the lot, if you had to write down everything you did, even just to leave the lot, okay, how many pages might it be, you know?

01:09:55.25
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:10:02.13
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm. Yeah.

01:10:08.74
Mike
That's probably a couple pages before I even write.

01:10:11.19
Bill
Yeah.

01:10:11.26
Mike
Yeah, exactly. Before I get on the road. Exactly.

01:10:13.50
Bill
Right. You know, so, I mean, this is, this is a child and, you know, four days and, you know, so whatever. So, which it was invaluable though, because, you know, it's, it's this one place here and then it's the other place the other day and bring this stuff here, but don't leave this here.

01:10:25.18
Bill
Make sure to bring this back.

01:10:25.97
Mike
see

01:10:26.22
Bill
And, you know, we've got, she, she was so nice. She had this Costco meal, like a oven baked meal. We had a chicken Alfredo on Monday.

01:10:32.12
Mike
m z

01:10:35.62
Bill
Brian dropped off a, a pizza from Papa Murphy's Saturday. Tuesday. So we had that Wednesday. Ollie went to the hospital, met the baby, and then they ate there.

01:10:44.12
Mike
Right.

01:10:44.48
Bill
And then Thursday obviously was, you know, by the time they got home. So, but that was the other thing, Brian, Brian would come home during the day and he'd come there at night. He'd take the dogs out and feed them at night.

01:10:54.69
Bill
But I took them out in the morning and blah, blah, blah. So, I mean, got a little bit of help from Brian from, from that side of things.

01:10:56.54
Mike
Right.

01:10:59.29
Bill
But so, I mean, just, just getting in, in my grandson. So everyone knows, I mean, again, he's almost four. I mean, literally weeks away from being four.

01:11:07.62
Mike
Right.

01:11:08.09
Bill
He's a good kid. He, he loves me to death. He listens to me.

01:11:10.78
Mike
a

01:11:11.85
Bill
He's at that attitude point in his life.

01:11:14.01
Mike
Sure.

01:11:14.23
Bill
Okay.

01:11:14.33
Mike
Right.

01:11:14.63
Bill
But not with me. Okay. I mean, like never he, I mean, well, he had one time and that was yesterday.

01:11:16.79
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:11:20.33
Bill
Okay.

01:11:20.91
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:11:21.01
Bill
But I'll tell you what I said.

01:11:22.59
Mike
All right.

01:11:23.17
Bill
it was so fucking awesome.

01:11:23.23
Mike
You're sure?

01:11:24.67
Bill
Yeah. So, um you know, he's fine, you know, but I'll get everything together and we got to get him in the car, you know, down to the point where, okay, you, you can't have his winter coat on in the car when he's in the car seat, because then the car seat won't be effective.

01:11:35.48
Bill
So you got to take him out.

01:11:35.83
Mike
right

01:11:36.56
Bill
And then, you know, she's like, yeah, I always put the, put the coat over his legs. These are important little things because he's used to them, you know, but she wrote all this stuff down and I'm doing all this stuff.

01:11:42.45
Mike
you're sure

01:11:44.60
Bill
I didn't, it first thing. I didn't forget or fuck up anything. Okay.

01:11:49.43
Mike
o

01:11:49.90
Bill
The entire week. I didn't, again, let me, let me repeat that.

01:11:51.48
Mike
Right.

01:11:54.32
Bill
I didn't forget or fuck up anything.

01:11:54.55
Mike
Yeah.

01:11:58.07
Mike
Wow.

01:11:59.08
Bill
No, that's not true.

01:11:59.48
Mike
I'm impressed.

01:11:59.60
Bill
I, I broke, I broke a microwave plate. I'll tell you that in a minute too.

01:12:01.88
Mike
Oh.

01:12:03.44
Bill
So that i God damn it. ah So I did break something. So nevermind.

01:12:07.22
Mike
Yep.

01:12:07.80
Bill
So with, with him though, his whole schedule,

01:12:08.02
Mike
is this Right. You didn't break him. That's the important part.

01:12:11.67
Bill
Right. Yeah, all that stuff, perfect. and You know, the pickups, the drop-offs, everything was was flawless. And he was fine, and he was wonderful. He went to bed for me fine. But I had three dogs to deal with, too.

01:12:21.88
Bill
You know, I had the two dogs, but then they got Hank. Hank is the one that' that's their rescue dog from a year ago.

01:12:27.45
Mike
Right.

01:12:27.92
Bill
little rambunctious, you know, kind of skittish, but I'd never really been around him all that much.

01:12:28.15
Mike
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:12:32.52
Bill
But he was really good for me, too. So all this stuff was fucking wonderful, you know? But, you know, i'm i'm not I'm not really sleeping well because I think that, um you know, I don't know, it's probably in the back of my head, even though there's a monitor in the room.

01:12:45.51
Bill
You know, there's another human being I'm responsible for.

01:12:47.51
Mike
yeah

01:12:47.75
Bill
So I'm thinking thinking that's in the back of my head. But um not even being in a strange place because I sleep, you know, in strange places all the fucking time, you know.

01:12:50.79
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:12:54.39
Mike
Yeah, sure. Right.

01:12:55.40
Bill
So that's not a problem. But then I had this little bit of a cold, so that's part of it too. But then, you know, the dogs, when I went to bed, I'd go to sleep and be like the first 45 minutes and Hank, Apparently does this on purpose.

01:13:06.91
Bill
He'll start barking out a living room to make you come out. and You little fucker, you know?

01:13:09.59
Mike
Uh-huh. Uh-huh. aha

01:13:11.78
Bill
And he did that to me a couple of nights. But all said and done, I mean, I went to bed at like 9 o'clock last night because I was so fucking tired.

01:13:17.72
Mike
c

01:13:18.62
Bill
Plus, again, yeah I'm a little run down from this cold.

01:13:20.77
Mike
Yeah.

01:13:21.59
Bill
So again, my grandson, wonderful through the whole time and everything like that. So yesterday morning, um get him up and he's going just to, I don't to feed him breakfast on Tuesday or Thursday. So he's just hanging out, watching some TV. And I'm like, okay, let's get you dressed. So i get him dressed in front of a TV, which I've done the last few days. Doesn't have to eat anything, but I'm like, I'm like, okay. And you know we've got like 10 minutes before we got to leave. But I said, I let's go brush your teeth real quick. So I walk into the bathroom, which usually just follows me.

01:13:48.70
Bill
So then, you know, he's not following me. So look out. And I'm like, Ali, Ali, Ali, look out. He's standing in front of the TV. He's got this Mickey Mouse hoodie on, right? And that's his, that's his shirt.

01:13:56.83
Mike
Right. Right.

01:13:58.34
Bill
He's got the the Mickey Mouse part hood pulled up.

01:13:58.45
Mike
aha

01:14:01.26
Bill
He's just standing in front of the TV. I'm like, what are you doing? I said, we got to go brush your teeth. and He's like, I want to brush my teeth here. I'm like, where?

01:14:08.79
Mike
this is

01:14:09.41
Bill
He's like in front of the TV here. And I said, you can't. And he's like, eh. And I'm like, okay. Okay.

01:14:15.77
Mike
he

01:14:16.06
Bill
and i And I'm like, no. I said, you need to go brush your teeth now. And he's like, eh. And he's like, you know, the arm, puts the arms out straight. And he's like, I'm not moving, little fucker.

01:14:23.45
Mike
right

01:14:23.70
Bill
I'm not, I'm not, no, to me, you know, he's calling me a fucker. Like, I'm not, just for a minute there, I'm like, I wasn't calling him that, you know, but.

01:14:26.17
Mike
Yeah, I know. Right. Yeah.

01:14:30.36
Mike
Hey, no, no. He's calling you that.

01:14:32.54
Bill
Yeah, he's like, yeah, yeah.

01:14:32.76
Mike
Look here, old man. I'm fucking doing what I want to do.

01:14:35.07
Bill
Yeah, fuck you, grandpa.

01:14:35.44
Mike
Right.

01:14:37.03
Bill
Brush my teeth here. And um and then i'm like i'm like I'm like, you can watch TV you know when when we're done. But I said, you got to go brush your teeth. And he's like, eh. And I said, okay.

01:14:47.39
Bill
I said, or I could turn the TV off and you watch nothing anymore until we leave. He looked at me, half rolled his eyes and just followed me into the bathroom.

01:14:55.55
Mike
Yeah, right. Right.

01:14:57.11
Bill
Because I said, I'll turn it off. He won't get anything then.

01:14:59.80
Mike
Yeah, yeah.

01:15:01.01
Bill
He's just, anyway, he's fine. That was it. But that was it. After after four fucking days, he was done with me.

01:15:05.59
Mike
he

01:15:06.89
Bill
you know And i I never had any issues.

01:15:07.00
Mike
right

01:15:09.25
Bill
We were playing catch in his room. I mean, he went to bed for me fine. Everything was everything was beautiful.

01:15:13.18
Mike
is

01:15:14.51
Bill
Everything was fucking wonderful. But yeah, it just gave me that little bit of a little bit of shit But then,

01:15:18.93
Mike
yeah well yeah Test you a little bit.

01:15:20.41
Bill
yeah it

01:15:21.30
Mike
All right, old man.

01:15:21.62
Bill
any

01:15:22.14
Mike
Yeah, it's been going good. Let's see how far I can push you.

01:15:25.14
Bill
Yeah, and it's ah it's apparently not that far. yeah he doesn it He doesn't really he doesn't get it.

01:15:27.99
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah,

01:15:29.78
Bill
i don't take i don't take shit from him. don't yell at him. I just don't. you know Like, fine.

01:15:32.49
Mike
right.

01:15:33.27
Bill
okay that We won't do anything then.

01:15:33.27
Mike
Yeah, okay. well

01:15:34.79
Bill
you know Yeah, Spalding.

01:15:35.43
Mike
You'll get nothing and like it.

01:15:38.31
Bill
Yeah, that's that's what's going to happen here.

01:15:39.05
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:15:40.50
Bill
but um But then, yeah, so yeah I got to – obviously, after they got back from the hospital, you know they got settled in, and Kimmy had texted me, and I went over and got to get to hold the deal for a little bit, and it was nice.

01:15:52.92
Bill
and I mean, they were they were tired. I didn't stay all that long, and you know it was I stayed for an hour or so.

01:15:55.70
Mike
oh Right.

01:15:58.60
Bill
But, but oh, the – So the story with the name now to begin with, and this is a funny part that when, when I was watching two weeks ago, when I got here, when i took Ali up to the park, we was, we're on the swings and stuff like that.

01:16:10.19
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:16:11.69
Bill
And he's like, my brother's name is Theodore. And I'm like, wait, what?

01:16:14.35
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:16:15.83
Bill
And he's like, my brother's name is Theodore. And I said, are you sure? Because um to begin with, I thought my daughter was, they had picked another name, which she had told me about. It wasn't that. And I said, she's he's like, yeah.

01:16:25.56
Mike
e

01:16:26.84
Bill
He goes, my friend at school's name is Theodore. My brother, my baby brother's going be Theodore. I'm like, okay. So I asked my my daughter later, asked Kimmy later. And she's like, she's like, he told you? She's like, he's been so good. he's that He's known for like a month. He hasn't told anyone.

01:16:41.82
Bill
But so so here's the deal. So um b Brian's middle name is Lee. So that's where the Lee comes from.

01:16:46.10
Mike
Right. Yeah, I knew that.

01:16:47.10
Bill
And then um that's why, yeah, he's got his name on Facebook that way.

01:16:50.30
Mike
Yeah, right.

01:16:50.51
Bill
um But then the the Theodore part, this is kind of funny. I thought about this because it's kind of as a sideline. 20 years ago, you know it's like, okay, we you know when we name pets and stuff like that, a lot of times we'll name pets based on some port person in our life, right?

01:17:05.11
Bill
Yeah.

01:17:05.27
Mike
Sure.

01:17:05.69
Bill
Usually not the other way around, but now pets are so important to us. It's it's their their family, right? So Brian had a dog for years named Teddy, okay?

01:17:13.88
Mike
Mm-hmm. Okay.

01:17:16.25
Bill
So this is kind of a, the Theodore is not necessarily named afterwards, but a nod towards Teddy.

01:17:21.59
Mike
Sure. Sure.

01:17:22.84
Bill
towards teddy okay so teddy was this um and they're there well you saw nala nala's their chocolate lab and they got apollo's the the black lab so teddy was a male right but you yeah teddy they they had to put teddy down god they've had nala for like eight or nine years i think if not longer that so figured 10 years ago probably they put teddy down um

01:17:24.12
Mike
Yeah.

01:17:30.08
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. I've met them both.

01:17:38.96
Mike
Hmm.

01:17:41.50
Mike
Hmm.

01:17:46.68
Bill
But he was a chocolate lab male, but bigger than Nala.

01:17:49.99
Mike
Hmm.

01:17:50.40
Bill
Wonderful dog, a little skittish around kids. you know He was good around people. He had no issue with me, but then like kids had a little bit of skittish issue with, I don't know don't remember why. But here's the funny part of it.

01:18:01.92
Bill
So Brian was, when Brian got him, Brian got him as a puppy. And i don't know if you even heard this story ever. um

01:18:06.93
Mike
don't think so.

01:18:08.38
Bill
Brian was at, of all places, went to Walmart. you know So probably now 20 years ago, right?

01:18:11.52
Mike
Mm.

01:18:13.18
Bill
And he's walking or out of a Walmart and there's some, literally some fucking dude selling Labrador puppies out of the back of a van.

01:18:21.82
Mike
Mm.

01:18:23.21
Bill
That's where Brian got Teddy and he's purebred, you know, had the papers and the whole bit, but this, yeah, this guy's fucking, you know, selling dogs.

01:18:24.94
Mike
Wow.

01:18:28.68
Mike
Mm.

01:18:31.63
Bill
So that's, ah that's where Brian got him and had him for years. And this dog was so wonderful. But, you know, again, got, I forget what the deal was, if he had lumps or cancers or whatever the deal was, but, you know, they ended up having to put them down, but, So, yeah, it's kind of a, you know, the the name Theodore is kind of a nod towards the dog, which is is nice because, I mean, it was, I mean, again, Brian had him for for years and just as anything else, it was tough, you know, when they had to put him down.

01:18:45.18
Mike
Sure. Yes. this is

01:18:53.01
Mike
Right.

01:18:56.47
Bill
But I don't know.

01:18:56.87
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:18:57.83
Bill
it was just, ah it's it's a great name, you know, and he's just, you know, Theo is probably more that they'll go towards. But yeah like I said, you were just funny. You're like, Ted, hey, Ted.

01:19:05.33
Mike
Right.

01:19:07.42
Bill
But do you know you never know. i mean There's ah this whole version of of words and names that that can come from that.

01:19:12.32
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:19:12.78
Bill
so Hang on one second.

01:19:14.78
Mike
a

01:19:16.30
Bill
can't say I was talking for too long. I'm getting kind of stuffed up too, but that's okay.

01:19:17.96
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:19:19.50
Bill
But, but yeah, so I mean all, and everyone's, everyone's doing well. It was great. And Ollie's birthday's in a couple of weeks, March 20, well, about um but a little less than a month, a few weeks.

01:19:27.39
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:19:30.48
Bill
March 22nd is when they're doing his birthday party. So, if you know, I'll be up there again.

01:19:33.79
Mike
Ah.

01:19:33.96
Bill
I get to see him, ah see him again. And obviously up in, up in Appleton. So, beth all's all's well all's well with the whole with the whole clan and like i said it was a it was a good week but i'll tell you what man um and i was talking to friend of mine uh texting my my friend kathleen and she's ah maybe four years younger than me she's got adult kids that i think are in their late 20s one might be in her early 30s so kind of in in my range with you know with my kids you know somewhere in that in that range and

01:19:42.52
Mike
Well, good.

01:19:45.82
Mike
huh. Right.

01:19:49.52
Mike
ahha

01:20:00.85
Mike
right

01:20:03.77
Bill
But I was telling her the same thing. I'm like, man, I said, this whole week has gone really well. And this is like on Wednesday or something like that. When I sent her a picture of of Theo and i said I said, but I'll tell you one thing, a man, and it's a lot. It is.

01:20:14.52
Mike
a

01:20:15.26
Bill
It's a lot, you know, without with all that stuff that she wrote down. And it wasn't bad, you know, but... It's a lot. And then Kathleen says, she's like, she goes, you know what? She goes, I was made for having kids when I was younger. She goes, I can't, I can't imagine, you know, these people that, that are our age that have younger kids.

01:20:29.95
Bill
And I thought of Heidi, you know, like when, when Heidi with the, with those kids, when, when she obviously took them on, whenever that was, which 10 years ago, seven, eight years ago.

01:20:31.64
Mike
yeah right is he yeah yeah probably yeah about seven eight something like that yeah

01:20:42.84
Bill
Yeah. And, uh, you know, so, and I think that they were probably around, you know, they, they might've been, you know, the four to six range or somewhere in that area.

01:20:48.38
Mike
Yeah, yeah, they were. Mm-hmm.

01:20:50.10
Bill
Yeah. So like, you know, kind of like where Ollie's age are and stuff like that. I'm like, um, once again, and here's the thing, just if nothing else, I mean, we, we did these things, we all did these things, you know, when we were younger.

01:20:54.70
Mike
Sure. Right. Mm-hmm. Right. Mm-hmm.

01:21:00.31
Mike
sure

01:21:01.34
Bill
Um, but I mean, I mean, yeah, i had both, both times. Well, with obviously as I got a little older, you know i mean? You know, Pam and I got divorced when Kimmy was, I don't know, six or seven, stuff like that.

01:21:12.33
Bill
Derek was five when, when daughter and I got divorced, but still, you know um you know, just when you have a little bit of help through that's too, but we're everyone's working.

01:21:15.45
Mike
this

01:21:21.03
Bill
Everyone's running around. Everyone's doing their thing. I'm like, Jesus Christ, even with his drop-off times with Ali's drop-off times, he couldn't be dropped off. The earliest he can be dropped off at either one of these places was 10 to eight.

01:21:34.34
Bill
That was the earliest, maybe quarter to eight, you know, but the other one's eight o'clock until they let him in.

01:21:35.58
Mike
Right. Right.

01:21:39.39
Mike
Yeah.

01:21:39.70
Bill
So I'm like, I start working at fucking eight o'clock, you know?

01:21:42.01
Mike
Right.

01:21:42.42
Bill
And I mean, the other, the one you've got to pick up, you have to pick up no later than four 30.

01:21:42.43
Mike
Right.

01:21:46.07
Bill
Well, I fucking work till five, you know?

01:21:47.93
Mike
Right.

01:21:48.10
Bill
So I'm thinking like, if this was my life, I would just be, I have to be like, I, I will work something out, you know?

01:21:50.85
Mike
Uh-huh. Right.

01:21:55.93
Mike
is this

01:21:56.98
Bill
I mean, I know people do it. I mean, don't don't get me wrong. There's probably people listening going, Jesus Christ, you know you old fuck. That's the point.

01:22:01.92
Mike
Yeah, yes, that's right.

01:22:02.62
Bill
I'm an old fuck. Too old too old to be dealing with this shit on a regular basis. But no regrets.

01:22:06.93
Mike
Absolutely.

01:22:08.10
Bill
No fucking regrets. It was it was wonderful. It was great. um He had a good time. And even the one night when Brian came over to... um take the dogs out and feed them in, in whatever.

01:22:18.56
Bill
And Brian's like, okay, let's go in brush your teeth. And I only said something that he came out and Brian's like, okay, no, that's okay. Not a problem. He goes, I gotta, you know, I get, gotta get, you know, head out shortly anyhow. So Ali must've told him, no, want grandpa to put me to bed.

01:22:31.06
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:22:31.14
Bill
Cause that's what, that's what Brian was going to do. He was going to brush his teeth and put him to bed.

01:22:34.50
Mike
Right.

01:22:34.78
Bill
But, um, you know, so he must've, I didn't hear that, but that's what what he must've told him is, and no, I want grandpa to put me to bed.

01:22:39.93
Mike
Clearly.

01:22:40.62
Bill
Yeah.

01:22:40.70
Mike
Yes.

01:22:42.49
Bill
Which again, I'm like, every you know, again, how nice, you know, just, just nice.

01:22:45.89
Mike
Yes, it is. Uh-huh.

01:22:47.74
Bill
So yeah, like I said, everyone's, everyone's good.

01:22:47.79
Mike
Good.

01:22:50.10
Bill
Everything's fine. Everything's, everything's all peachy keen. So, all right.

01:22:52.54
Mike
Good.

01:22:54.30
Bill
So um just a couple more, a couple more things that I ran across. So i was listening to, um I think this might've been the sober motivate. Actually, i think it was the sober motivation podcast.

01:23:04.36
Bill
Have you ever, have you ever heard of functional medicine?

01:23:09.62
Mike
No.

01:23:13.37
Bill
Okay. So, um, I, I thought I, out of anyone that you, if anyone's ever heard of it, you would have, um, so this guy was on there and going through the, just the typical story, you know, as the guys, an alcoholic ended up, um, you know, I mean, bad, bad deal and whatever the deal was that ended up in the hospital, um, with liver failure, you know, and I mean, jaundice in the whole bit, the yellow eyes, and they're just basically, you know, trying to plan for either hospice care or whatever to make this dude fucking comfortable.

01:23:35.54
Mike
Okay.

01:23:41.42
Bill
Um, He's going to die.

01:23:42.06
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:23:42.41
Bill
You know, I mean, that's that's the level that this guy was at. OK. And there was one of the somebody either a friend, a nurse, i't remember who actually referred this to him, referred him to a different doctor in this doctor practice functional medicine. OK, so they're explaining all this stuff. So I ended up looking it up. So I'm like, I can't. There's no way I'm going to be able explain this. I'm just going to read what it is.

01:24:04.50
Bill
So functional medicine is a patient-centered systems biology approach that focuses on identifying the root cause of chronic diseases rather than just treating the symptoms.

01:24:16.31
Bill
Okay.

01:24:16.51
Mike
Okay.

01:24:17.05
Bill
That make sense so far?

01:24:17.94
Mike
Yeah.

01:24:18.55
Bill
Okay.

01:24:18.75
Mike
Yeah.

01:24:19.89
Bill
It examines the interaction of genetics, environment, and lifestyle to create a personalized treatment plan or create personalized treatment treatment plans, often involving nutrition, supplements, lifestyle changes, typically used for complex long-term health issues.

01:24:35.74
Bill
Okay?

01:24:36.68
Mike
Okay.

01:24:37.24
Bill
So that's what they did with this guy. Okay. I'm focused on that.

01:24:40.38
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:24:40.96
Bill
They were looking at the the same thing, looking at the root cause rather than in whether it was medications or wherever they treated them. I, the, the problem is with, okay, so, so we were talking before about long form or whatever.

01:24:51.72
Bill
I might look this guy up and try to get him on just so I can hear more about it or we can hear more about it because the only problem it, I love the sober motivation podcast.

01:24:54.92
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

01:25:00.24
Bill
I do. But he he takes his hour or however long he is for the episode. It goes from kind of like the the cradle to grave concept of it. Not that that the people are dying, but you know what i mean?

01:25:10.74
Bill
Goes through the entire process. So he went through this thing, but I didn't get enough information on it because I was kind of intrigued. But the whole point was um he quit drinking and, you know, it got his, his whole liver function came back.

01:25:25.24
Bill
Okay.

01:25:25.64
Mike
Sure.

01:25:26.64
Bill
Cause he wasn't, um who wasn't eligible for a transplant, anything like that. I'm sure probably because of the alcoholism um I've known people that have not been, you know, uh,

01:25:32.52
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:25:36.57
Bill
not been eligible for that sort of thing.

01:25:38.46
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:25:38.65
Bill
um And it was this, you know, based on his functional medicine. Now granted on top of that, he's, he's a God guy and he's like, Oh, I got to thank God. It's a miracle and blah, bla blah, blah.

01:25:45.96
Mike
Mm-hmm. Sure.

01:25:46.74
Bill
And all this other this stuff. And I'm like, that's fine.

01:25:47.79
Mike
Right.

01:25:48.26
Bill
um Whatever, whatever goes along with it. I don't i don't really care, but I was just, um I just didn't know if you'd ever, if you'd ever heard of it.

01:25:51.73
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:25:55.24
Bill
And I, I don't get it. I mean, it it just, it's like, okay, so they're, they're just dealing with, Again, when it comes down to it, dealing with the with the root cause rather than just the symptoms.

01:26:05.56
Bill
So not putting them on, because they you know they're basically saying there's certain, again, medications, probably, don't know if they're natural medicines.

01:26:05.91
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:26:14.47
Bill
I'm even trying to read back and remember even what he what he said on here, but, um, yeah, diets and improving sleep and exercise. And I think there was certain sort of medications that they were using, but basically what they said in the hospital was there, there's no chance.

01:26:25.45
Mike
Right.

01:26:28.93
Bill
There's nothing that can be done to fix this where these other doctors are like, Hey, if you're, if you're willing to open your mind a little bit, um, there might be a way to, to help correct this.

01:26:30.43
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Mm-hmm.

01:26:38.77
Mike
Yeah.

01:26:38.96
Bill
So,

01:26:39.43
Mike
Right. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you know, our bodies are pretty fucking amazing things. And if, you know, we stop poisoning them and we actually put some stuff in there that that helps them function better, um they they fix themselves quite often.

01:26:54.14
Bill
Right.

01:26:55.10
Mike
Yeah.

01:26:55.16
Bill
Yeah. It was just, I, I, it was, I don't know. You know, like I said, I was, I'd never heard of, I never heard of functional medicine before. And it's a thing. I mean, there's a, the guy, the guy's actually from Wisconsin too.

01:27:03.92
Mike
Oh.

01:27:05.88
Bill
I don't know what part of Wisconsin is.

01:27:06.08
Mike
Hmm.

01:27:07.64
Bill
He lived in a small town and there's a, when I looked it up, I mean, there's clinics like this, a couple of main clinics, I guess in Wisconsin, the guy might have even been around this area for all I know.

01:27:14.14
Mike
Hmm.

01:27:16.36
Bill
Um, yeah, literally I just, I had never heard of it, but I just figured, you know, Hey, again, out of all the, out of all the things I ask questions, you're like, Oh yeah, I knew about that. Right.

01:27:25.72
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah. No, no, never have. I mean, you know, not that particular term. I mean, I'm certainly familiar with the concept of, you know, um not taking like chemical stuff, but, you know, natural stuff, feeding the body properly to have it function.

01:27:42.46
Mike
Right. And, And and and heal itself.

01:27:43.55
Bill
Right.

01:27:45.02
Mike
And sure. I mean, you know, I take i take a handful of shit every morning. yeah know And it's, yeah, it's none of it's chemical. You know, I take a malty and I take fish oils and, and you know, so few other supplements and stuff.

01:27:54.53
Bill
Right.

01:27:59.25
Mike
And yeah, you know, I'm chugging right along. I'm fairly healthy. Mm-hmm.

01:28:04.18
Bill
Right. Well, you know, and that's, that is the one thing that, um, you know, they, they've talked about cause I'm listening to what, again, when I'm listening to Joe Rogan podcast or the, their episodes, you know, going back to even, you know, pandemic time when, you know, his, his mindset has actually changed a little bit with, you with some of this stuff, he was always of the opinion, not necessarily against the vaccinations, but more, uh, more pro, um, immunity or, you know, immune system, you know,

01:28:11.90
Mike
m

01:28:16.15
Mike
Right.

01:28:25.08
Mike
Right.

01:28:28.50
Mike
Yeah. Oh, exactly. Yeah.

01:28:30.49
Bill
So he was always pro that saying that, you know, mean, he was all about he he wasn't afraid. it was kind of like you and i I, think that at least I know how I felt. And i think you're the same way. I wasn't really concerned of of fighting it off, you know, because ive I felt that, you know, I mean, again, our generation, you know, people joke about it.

01:28:43.09
Mike
Right.

01:28:47.39
Bill
But seriously, this Gen X generation of ours, I mean, we we didn't have all the, you know, the the hand sanitizers and all this different shit. And I mean, we were we were swimming in fucking sewer puddle water, puddle water, probably.

01:28:59.96
Mike
Yep.

01:29:00.04
Bill
you know, and drinking out of hoses and all this other shit.

01:29:00.36
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Right.

01:29:03.80
Bill
And, um, I mean, I just, in general, I don't get sick that much, you know? And I mean, this, what I have right now is probably, this is the worst type of maybe a cold thing that I've had in the a while, just cause it's settled into my chest a little bit.

01:29:13.89
Mike
Yeah. Right.

01:29:15.64
Bill
Um, you know, but I mean, I don't, I don't get that, you know? So, but I didn't want to give it to somebody else. Cause I'm like, I think I can, I can handle it.

01:29:21.41
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:29:23.28
Bill
If it comes, if it comes on board with me, I'm okay. But I didn't want to give it to somebody else like mom or somebody else that, you know,

01:29:28.96
Mike
Oh, yeah, absolutely. Right. Yeah. Well, i back to the pandemic. I mean, you know, I didn't wear a mask for me. I wore it for other people.

01:29:36.09
Bill
Right.

01:29:36.60
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, exactly.

01:29:37.94
Bill
Right. Yeah.

01:29:39.22
Mike
Right.

01:29:40.25
Bill
but But yeah, I mean, he he talks about he talks about that all the time. you know that He said that was the one thing that um you know used to piss him off with with the government and in all this different stuff. I mean, no offense to the he was he was say no offense to the vaccine.

01:29:51.49
Bill
People want to get vaccinated or whatever. you know It'll help if get something, but it's not going to help against everything.

01:29:53.40
Mike
Right.

01:29:56.25
Bill
People get vacc vaccinated or are still to get the same thing as a flu vet, whatever it is, because you can't get vaccinated on something that hasn't happened yet, you know which is new strains, which is a reason all that stuff.

01:30:00.25
Mike
oh

01:30:03.26
Mike
Exactly. Mm-hmm.

01:30:06.19
Bill
We all talked about that. You know, but he said the fact that I, you know, you know I thought about it you know, we, you know, thinking back, the building up of the immune system really wasn't ever talked about, you know, and you know, what, what can, what can everyone out there do just to get the natural immunity?

01:30:07.78
Mike
Right.

01:30:17.85
Mike
Right.

01:30:23.61
Bill
I mean, granted, they talked about a certain point. They talked about the, what did they talk about? It was called herd, not herd mentality, but getting a certain number of people vaccinated.

01:30:33.46
Mike
Herd immunity.

01:30:34.54
Bill
herd immunity.

01:30:34.72
Mike
Yeah.

01:30:35.02
Bill
There you go.

01:30:35.64
Mike
Yeah.

01:30:36.15
Bill
But I mean, that could have happened if you would have gotten people healthy, you know, without a vaccine.

01:30:40.26
Mike
Yeah.

01:30:41.95
Bill
Now, maybe the vaccine helped, but I mean, you'll work on, you know, because he was even, yeah, you're fat and ugly and you're, you know, whatever, you know, so people out there that are, you know, just ah not taking care of themselves in general, eating like shit, drinking a bunch of whatever's doing all these different things, putting everything that they can horrible in their body.

01:30:48.76
Mike
a

01:30:58.74
Bill
And they're like, well, I'm going to get the vaccine.

01:31:01.30
Mike
yeah

01:31:02.98
Bill
You're still fucked, you know?

01:31:04.22
Mike
yeah Yeah, right. Exactly.

01:31:08.28
Bill
But yeah, so anyhow, I don't know. i I might look up that guy and just maybe just have him on and say, you know, we want to have you on just to talk about, we we heard if you want to tell your story in a bits pieces like we do, that's fine. But I want to hear more about this functional medicine kind of, you know.

01:31:22.58
Bill
So um i think that's i think that I think that might be that. I might have had, did I have one other thing? I don't know if I did. I don't know. As you're as you're doing, you're out.

01:31:33.03
Bill
If you're getting close to being done, I'm done too, unless I had another another quick note.

01:31:35.67
Mike
Yeah, I was close to being done an hour ago.

01:31:38.07
Bill
hey Yeah, before before we started.

01:31:41.37
Mike
It's been, yeah well, according to our AI overlords, I'm unwilling. So, you know.

01:31:48.47
Bill
Yeah, you know, that's the first time I ever saw or read that. I'm like, willing and unwilling. That was kind of funny. Was it?

01:31:53.46
Mike
Yeah.

01:31:53.71
Bill
Yeah, was it? You think they were talking about you?

01:31:56.02
Mike
I believe so. Yeah.

01:31:57.88
Bill
ah yeah I don't know. I think you're you're you're willing enough. You show up. You show up and you you're...

01:32:02.84
Mike
Yeah, exactly.

01:32:03.66
Bill
yeah

01:32:03.80
Mike
Right. i I've got some willingness. i I heard I have to have that. So, you know, there you go.

01:32:08.31
Bill
I agree.

01:32:09.20
Mike
Yes. All right. Let's finish this fucking thing up.

01:32:10.58
Bill
Okay.

01:32:12.20
Mike
All right. Well, thank you everyone for listening to yet another episode of Sober Not Mature. is always, be good to each other, kind to each other, do something nice for somebody else this week and don't tell anybody you did it.

01:32:25.01
Mike
And thank you for listening if you have been listening for four years. Oh, you fucker. There it is.

01:32:38.36
Bill
Ah, that's perfect.

01:32:40.67
Mike
All right, here we go. From the bottom of my heart, really the bottom the heart of my bottom, to the depths of my soul, from the beginning of time until the ends of the earth, always and eternally. Fuck you.

01:32:55.29
Mike
Now it's time, kids. Oh boy, is it time. It's time for you to fuck off. Then keep fucking off. Keep fucking off till you get to a gate with a sign on it saying, you cannot fuck off past here.

01:33:08.12
Mike
Climb over that gate. Dream the impossible dream. Keep fucking off forever.

01:33:15.70
Bill
Okay, I found the one thing I wanted to tell This will take literally one minute, I promise. It's kind of funny. it made me laugh. So Mount Everest, when people climb it, we know that hundreds of people have died and that just they leave the bodies there because they can't they get clear them off and blah, blah, blah.

01:33:25.44
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Right.

01:33:28.96
Bill
So when you're when you're you know climbing up the mountain, dead bodies everywhere. So there was a a story that was talked about again on a podcast saying that there was this this lady who was a vegan and she set out to climb Mount Everest basically because, you know, to prove um that that vegan people were not weak.

01:33:41.95
Mike
Uh-huh. Uh-huh.

01:33:45.63
Bill
You know I don't know she felt attacked as being a vegan or whatever.

01:33:46.54
Mike
Whatever. Whatever.

01:33:48.27
Bill
So she's like, I'm going to go and I'm going to climb Mount Everest because us vegans are not weak. She died.

01:33:55.22
Mike
Yep.

01:33:55.58
Bill
ah but I shouldn't laugh.

01:33:58.58
Mike
Darwin was right.

01:34:00.50
Bill
I should laugh at that, but it was so fucking funny when i when I heard that. I'm like, that's fucking perfect.

01:34:06.36
Mike
Yes, it is.

01:34:06.38
Bill
I'm not happy that not happy that she died. i just say think it's fucking hilarious the fact that she's like, Yeah, it doesn't matter what you, what or who or whatever you are. It's fucking Mount Everest on top of that.

01:34:17.27
Bill
And, you know, you haven't had a a fucking bit of protein in years and you're going to go climb up there.

01:34:21.22
Mike
Ha, ha, ha, ha.

01:34:22.34
Bill
and yeah We're strong yeah until you die Mount Everest.

01:34:24.54
Mike
Okay. is

01:34:27.48
Bill
All right, man. So I know that i know that this this is this is it. Happy anniversary to to us and everyone else out there.

01:34:32.06
Mike
Yes.

01:34:33.08
Bill
Not everyone else, but it's just us.

01:34:33.46
Mike
Right.

01:34:34.56
Bill
Vote for us, by the way. Okay. I love you, brother.

01:34:37.82
Mike
Love you too.

01:34:38.68
Bill
hey Talk to you soon.

01:34:40.44
Mike
You shall.

01:34:41.86
Bill
Bye.

01:34:42.89
Mike
Bye.
