SoberNotMature - Episode 225 (Whistling Dixie Out Of Our A**Holes)
This week it's back to the guys that run this ship, Mike and Bill.
Mike started out with his reading and it was from the 24 Hour book this week. Old school book and it talked about hope, faith and the foundation that we build. It sparked a conversation about our time at the Keating Center and was just a good conversation in general.
We chatted about imposter syndrome, a podcast clip about statistics on social media (Bill commented on it and may have hurt their feelings), we may be putting out a story book and we talked about this thing we do as a disease.
We wrapped up with a short story about a phone that ended up in a creek.
Enjoy the episode.

Bill
all right everyone welcome once again to another episode of sober not mature and i'd like to start off with just a little bit of a refresher if you wouldn't mind mike
00:00:12.79
Mike
Okay, sure, i I could use all the refreshment I can get.
00:00:16.41
Bill
refresh or not refresh mids, but I don't know.
00:00:19.00
Mike
Yeah, whatever.
00:00:19.89
Bill
have You know, you got you got a cold one there for You you got some of your iced tea. take you Take a sip.
00:00:23.80
Mike
Yeah, yeah, all right, yeah, sure.
00:00:24.09
Bill
It's okay. You can have refresher. That's good. You can have that too. so but So for anyone who has been around for a minute, you know, or maybe those new listeners, there are three things that we kind of live our sober lives by, right, Mike?
00:00:35.95
Mike
Yes.
00:00:36.42
Bill
And I'm just kind of curious what what those three things, if you wouldn't mind sharing those things with our fine listeners.
00:00:38.20
Mike
yes
00:00:41.91
Mike
All right, well, they are making our bed every morning, getting pizza every Friday night, and spite.
00:00:45.38
Bill
Okay.
00:00:48.41
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:00:48.92
Bill
Exactly. So um i'm I'm just guessing you didn't go to work today. You played hooky.
00:00:53.62
Mike
I did. didn't.
00:00:54.33
Bill
Again, I was telling Mike I love that word. I don't know why I love the word, but I do.
00:00:56.01
Mike
Yep. I did. Yes. Yes.
00:00:57.65
Bill
So so Mike did not go to work today, but you I'm still guessing that you made your bed, right?
00:00:59.70
Mike
i didn't i did
00:01:03.19
Bill
Okay, you got out of it long enough to make it.
00:01:05.02
Mike
yes
00:01:07.16
Bill
You said that one time. You're like, sometimes I barely get out of it, so I don't know if I shouldn't even make it, but I still do.
00:01:08.73
Mike
if
00:01:11.48
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:01:11.84
Bill
Still do. um You got some pizza.
00:01:14.58
Mike
I did.
00:01:15.38
Bill
Okay. And any spite today? Any spite?
00:01:18.55
Mike
um i mean, you know, just that the regular low-level, I'll show you, I'll stay sober. Uh-huh.
00:01:25.18
Bill
Right. Yeah. I figure if nothing else, there's always that, but there's always got there's always a little bit of s spite. I worked today, so I have my got my little dose of spite just in general. But here's the one thing I don't have spite over, and that's speaking of pizza.
00:01:33.92
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:01:37.35
Bill
I do not have spite over pizza. Okay.
00:01:39.64
Mike
Okay.
00:01:39.87
Bill
And the reason I wanted to bring this up is because, and I started thinking about I'm like, oh, for the last couple of years, I'm like, no, no, no.
00:01:39.88
Mike
Okay.
00:01:45.79
Bill
The entire time that we've been doing this podcast, I think that I probably complained about Domino's Pizza on a fairly regular basis because they, you know, their pizza was terrible in Wisconsin every once in a while.
00:01:48.46
Mike
Right.
00:01:56.95
Bill
Bad topics here. When I've traveled, it just, it seems to be consistent all over the place.
00:02:02.17
Mike
ah
00:02:02.49
Bill
So like a month ago, there was a a thing on the app. Like one of the deals was get a specialty pizza or a pan pizza for whatever price it was. It's decent price. Probably $2 more than what I would pay for my normal blend of pizza that I get.
00:02:16.18
Mike
here
00:02:17.21
Bill
So i'm like, oh, you know what? I don't really want to try a specialty, but I haven't had pan pizza in a while.
00:02:21.88
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:02:22.33
Bill
So I tried it. And two things. It was really fucking good. Okay.
00:02:25.68
Mike
Yeah.
00:02:25.97
Bill
um Fan. I'm a fan of of Domino's pan pizza. I want to get couple of things. the The crust and everything they put together, very nice. Better than any pizza pizza that I can remember.
00:02:36.71
Bill
But also a lot of bulk to it. I mean, it's a pan pizza, you know, so a lot of bulk to it.
00:02:40.46
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:02:42.01
Bill
And I think this week was probably the fourth week that I've gotten because I started getting it afterwards. And it's only $2 more than my normal pizza.
00:02:47.36
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:02:50.14
Bill
And the toppings and the way they make it, fucking perfect.
00:02:54.75
Mike
Hmm.
00:02:55.26
Bill
I mean, literally more toppings than i could that I could hope for. Everything that I said over these last four years or four and half years, I'm like, I will pay a couple of dollars more.
00:03:01.21
Mike
Yes. Right.
00:03:05.46
Bill
Just give me the right amount of toppings. And guess what? I'm paying a couple of dollars more for a different for a different reason. But I'm getting right toppings, you know?
00:03:12.70
Mike
Cool.
00:03:13.46
Bill
So, um I don't know. just I had to say that because I bitch enough. I figure equal billing. I bitch enough about Domino's.
00:03:18.06
Mike
Right.
00:03:19.42
Bill
I'm throwing it out to them. Your regular pizza sucks. I don't care where I've been in the country. Um, it's like paper that you, so you know, throw and hope you get some toppings on it.
00:03:23.74
Mike
All right. Yes.
00:03:28.32
Bill
Every once in a while you get some toppings on it. That sucks. But this, for whatever reason, for $2 more, I'm getting exactly what I want, you know, and it's surprising. So yeah, no, no s spite. I've had no spite with my pizza now for probably four weeks.
00:03:40.68
Bill
And I kept forgetting, forgetting to tell you, but we also had guests.
00:03:41.27
Mike
right
00:03:43.64
Bill
So, you know, I mean, there's that, but.
00:03:43.90
Mike
e
00:03:45.52
Bill
um So real quickly on that. So we had obviously Anthony last week, by the way, the um his audio came, came up and it it evened out and it happened with somebody else too.
00:03:49.75
Mike
yes
00:03:53.70
Mike
Good.
00:03:54.28
Bill
And I can't remember who it was. I think Erica, but we had her on. So it seems like when we have low audio, cause your, your voice is always kind of booming. I think mine was in the middle and his was lower.
00:04:03.96
Mike
Right.
00:04:04.38
Bill
as we were going through and it all evened out perfectly. So it was great. And his, I think his episode played well and blah, blah, blah, all that stuff. But so if you haven't listened to it, um Anthony, you know, obviously yeah had a great episode and in next week we have another author on and it's Lord Ashley.
00:04:11.75
Mike
Good.
00:04:16.83
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:04:19.16
Mike
Right.
00:04:21.01
Bill
And he is actually from the UK.
00:04:21.21
Mike
Yes.
00:04:23.13
Bill
So this will be the first person that we've ever had from overseas. We've had, you know, i mean, Canada, but I mean, it's, it's Canada.
00:04:30.17
Mike
Right. That there's no C. Yeah, that's yeah it's connected.
00:04:34.82
Bill
Right. Yeah. And I think we've had three, four people that have lived in Canada, but, um, so yeah, and he's, uh, I'm following him now on, uh, on Instagram and, um, looks like he's doing a lot of promotion between podcasts and things like that for his books.
00:04:38.63
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:04:43.45
Mike
Right.
00:04:47.30
Bill
So, um, I, I think it should be interesting, but yeah, if I'm not mistaken, if, uh, when I looked, I think it's probably going to be like midnight his time, you know, when he, when he's on with us, which he understands, you know, but, um, you know, doesn't, didn't really care, but, uh,
00:04:57.37
Mike
Right. Yeah, right.
00:05:02.26
Bill
So we have a guest next week and then I think a couple coming up. Jim's coming back on. and Just a side note for you because I didn't get a chance to tell you today.
00:05:06.12
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:05:08.84
Bill
because i um So everyone, we told everyone before, we we're starting to get we get in waves of these people you know that are you know obviously want to be on. And um we're not afraid to say no.
00:05:17.02
Mike
Right. Right.
00:05:19.19
Bill
And I think we've gotten more picky over the years.
00:05:19.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:05:20.83
Bill
Am I wrong with that?
00:05:21.18
Mike
No, not at all.
00:05:21.75
Bill
I think we're getting, okay.
00:05:22.98
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:05:23.70
Bill
um You know, because I don't know, I'd i'd rather, i think you would too. I'd rather sit down and have one of these mindless conversations for five and a half minutes than have a guest on that we don't really care about.
00:05:29.86
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:05:32.69
Bill
um
00:05:32.73
Mike
Right.
00:05:34.04
Bill
So it's this guy and who knows, we might end up having him on if they come back with us with, you know, a little bit more information. But this this guy more of like, ah you know, we had Coach David on a couple of years ago. do you remember him?
00:05:44.32
Bill
He was a business coach or whatever, I've been sober for years.
00:05:46.04
Mike
Yeah Right
00:05:47.40
Bill
He's a Canadian. So there's there's another Canada guy that we were talking about. But um he came at us with, I don't just do this. This is my job, but this is who I am and, you know, came on with us with that. So that's kind of what we talked about.
00:05:58.64
Bill
But, you know, he did talk about his business, you know, his coaching business, not necessarily targeted towards our audience, but he was promoting more of a sobriety and then the business was on the side type of thing.
00:05:58.92
Mike
Right Right Sure
00:06:08.98
Bill
So this other guy, we get this promotion and it's from somebody that I think approached us before. I could be wrong. I, somebody that I think we had on, but I can't remember who it was. Cause I remember her name. And I remember, I think I remember the company name. So it's one of these promoters and it's another, you know, this guy, but he's more of a, Oh, he's a Ted talk guy and he's, you know, corporate America and coaching this and this and that. Oh, by the way, I've been sober for six years and this and that, and this is what I do. And I'm a Ted talk guy and whatever. So.
00:06:36.82
Bill
I just emailed back and I said, OK, so tell me more and tell me what you think he could bring to, you know, to the podcast. I'm like, everything he does sounds great, but um maybe I'm, you didn't say I'm missing something.
00:06:43.70
Mike
Right.
00:06:46.95
Bill
But like, so why, why does he want to talk to us?
00:06:47.16
Mike
yeah
00:06:49.76
Bill
You know, and she comes back is like, oh, he focuses on this and leadership and this and blah, blah, blah.
00:06:50.01
Mike
right
00:06:55.30
Bill
And and I emailed her back again. I'm like, i'm like here's the deal. I said, you should listen to our podcast. And I explained, again, I said, I stopped doing this years ago because I figured people should take the time to look.
00:07:00.13
Mike
Mm-hmm Right Mm-hmm Yeah
00:07:04.54
Bill
I said, but you should figure out if he fits with us and then tell us why you think he fits with us and then whatever. And she actually apologized. She said, yeah, we probably should have done more research. But she said, let me talk to him.
00:07:15.72
Bill
And then get back to you with more of a solid plan. And I'm like, perfect. Because I'm like, you brought somebody else to us.
00:07:19.22
Mike
Oh Mm-hmm
00:07:20.96
Bill
I think this is a good working relationship. But, you know, I said, we question these things, you know, for everybody's interest, because I know what people are doing. I think they're getting us off the list of like Feedspot, where we're ranked number two and have been for a long time.
00:07:33.90
Mike
Mm hmm.
00:07:35.17
Bill
So, you know, we're, I think we're getting of getting but off that list and maybe because we were nominated for the Sands Bar thing, who knows?
00:07:35.30
Mike
Right.
00:07:41.75
Bill
We're, our name's out there a lot, but you know, it's just like, i if anyone's seen the Howard Stern movie, you know, they hired him in New York without listening him.
00:07:41.82
Mike
Uh Sure. Yeah.
00:07:50.07
Mike
Right.
00:07:51.13
Bill
And then they're like, how do we get rid of this motherfucker?
00:07:51.12
Mike
Uh huh.
00:07:53.29
Bill
You know? And, um, quite honestly, although funny and I enjoy the movie, um, and I enjoy the story.
00:07:54.44
Mike
Mm hmm.
00:07:58.41
Bill
Um, I don't want to deal with an hour or a half of that. You know, somebody doesn't want to be here.
00:08:01.24
Mike
Right.
00:08:02.17
Bill
Fuck them. I don't want them here either. You know, but, um,
00:08:03.58
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah. and We don't want to get 15 minutes into it. Go. Well, you know what, dude, you got to go.
00:08:11.48
Bill
Yeah. And you know what? We've been, we've been really lucky. I think we've made very smart choices.
00:08:13.94
Mike
Yes. Mm
00:08:16.37
Bill
Um, we've only had, like I said, there was a one person I think that was offended. That was latin in within the last six months, I think offended by the way that you close out the podcast.
00:08:21.99
Mike
hmm. Mm hmm.
00:08:24.04
Bill
But again, fuck him because you know, if he didn't listen, that that's his own goddamn fault, you know?
00:08:25.15
Mike
Yeah. Right. Yeah, exactly.
00:08:30.92
Bill
um And I just we've the podcast that you and I have been on um as ah as a as a pot. We've been on podcasts as a podcast.
00:08:37.02
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:08:37.72
Bill
um I mean, we've looked into him. It's like, OK, you know, do does this make sense?
00:08:40.02
Mike
Sure. Yeah,
00:08:41.40
Bill
You know, is this something we want to do type of thing? I mean, you know, we've been approached, I think, by other podcasts.
00:08:44.06
Mike
right.
00:08:46.32
Bill
Really? I don't think.
00:08:46.57
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, right. You don't want us. We don't want you.
00:08:49.30
Bill
Yeah. Yeah, it's, yeah, it's, it's us, not you.
00:08:50.09
Mike
right. Mm-hmm.
00:08:53.17
Mike
yes right
00:08:55.77
Bill
But, um, yeah, anyhow, so we've, we've got a couple of guests coming up and, uh, I don't know. I think it's just kind of interesting to have, you know, somebody from overseas and, you know, I, I, the guy's a badass. I mean, if you, you saw his pictures, right?
00:09:07.00
Mike
Right. no No, no, no, I haven't.
00:09:07.45
Bill
I mean, oh, you didn't.
00:09:08.44
Mike
I, no.
00:09:09.45
Bill
Oh, Yeah.
00:09:09.75
Mike
Dude, I don't fucking look at anything. Come on, you know. i don't do shit.
00:09:12.31
Bill
No, I know, but but when when we sent over for the guest thing, I know you look at the stuff in general, but I think there was a – whatever, he's he's tattooed up.
00:09:16.82
Mike
Yeah. Sure.
00:09:19.63
Bill
I mean, head, face, neck, the whole bit. I mean, he's a big fucking dude too.
00:09:21.46
Mike
Yeah.
00:09:23.39
Bill
So, yeah, um he looks he looks like a badass but also seems like one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet.
00:09:23.46
Mike
Cool.
00:09:28.44
Mike
sure
00:09:28.98
Bill
You know, that kind of guy. you know So I just – I think it's going to be a good – I think it'll be a good conversation.
00:09:30.07
Mike
yeah
00:09:33.21
Bill
Yeah.
00:09:33.43
Mike
cool
00:09:34.58
Bill
So anyhow, and I've got I've got actually I've got a couple of things here and we might have gotten to the point now. I don't know for sure that it'll always be this way, but I end up having enough of these little things, especially if we have a guest in the meantime.
00:09:45.98
Mike
Right.
00:09:46.33
Bill
um Some of these little things, either listening to a podcast, bits and pieces from readings or things that that I run across that I think are decent topics.
00:09:52.44
Mike
Okay.
00:09:53.49
Bill
you know So I haven't had to dig into my list of stuff for a while. So I think tonight might be the same thing. But I've got i've got some interesting – got some stuff for you I want to tell you, some podcast stuff that I think i think is fun.
00:10:03.90
Mike
Okay.
00:10:05.26
Bill
But we'll get into that. um We'll save that until after the break because I think maybe we'll keep people around for more than half the episode.
00:10:10.87
Mike
Maybe.
00:10:10.98
Bill
so
00:10:11.48
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah. Sure. Yeah. right.
00:10:12.93
Bill
I'm just kidding. But it it is funny sometimes you look at the, and I don't pay super you know close attention to it, but sometimes we do, we'll lose people more. You get lesser percentage and listen through. But again, we figured out the problem, not the problem there, but you know, it's an hour and a half, you know?
00:10:26.77
Bill
So some people are just fucking pussies.
00:10:27.03
Mike
right
00:10:29.63
Bill
It can't hang.
00:10:30.39
Mike
yeah yeah
00:10:32.73
Bill
Blame it on them, right? just Just kidding.
00:10:34.42
Mike
sure
00:10:35.49
Bill
Hang out with us for a while. It's only an hour and a half. Listen to it over a couple of nights. It's okay.
00:10:39.10
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:10:39.33
Bill
It's cool. Yeah.
00:10:40.57
Mike
That's right. I mean, it's long, but we only do one a week. So, you know, it's an hour and a half out of your week.
00:10:44.05
Bill
right
00:10:46.62
Bill
Exactly. Exactly. So, all right. So enough of my yeah almost 11 minutes of rambling about stuff, but I don't know. It was, it was useless. So anyhow,
00:10:54.62
Mike
Sure. Right. It
00:10:57.24
Bill
ah again, that's what we do. That's why people love us. So that's, that's what it is.
00:10:59.99
Mike
right
00:11:03.97
Bill
That's, I don't know, whatever. That's something. It's something. That's all that it is.
00:11:06.52
Mike
it is
00:11:07.77
Bill
All right. So um I don't know. do you have a reading? You think might jump into one of them.
00:11:10.23
Mike
Yeah, I do. i have a reading. um
00:11:12.89
Bill
Okay.
00:11:13.92
Mike
i I couldn't find anything that jumped out at me. And I was like, go on. God damn it. I got nothing. Everything I'm finding, I'm going, I think we already did that one. Or, you know, or this sucks or blah, blah, blah.
00:11:27.60
Mike
So, um you know what? i'm Going back to the basics. This is the 24-hour book.
00:11:31.48
Bill
Okay.
00:11:32.88
Mike
This is today's 24-hour book.
00:11:32.98
Bill
Oh.
00:11:35.93
Mike
And um there's a couple reasons.
00:11:36.22
Bill
Nice.
00:11:38.21
Mike
First of all, it's it's not half bad. It it only has the God word twice in it, which is amazing for the 24-hour book.
00:11:40.86
Bill
Right.
00:11:46.14
Mike
Um, and, um, it's got a phrase in it that, uh, that jumped out at me, what, this is June 12th, right? So, um, you know, we were, I believe the fog was starting to lift, uh, the Keating Center the first time we read through this, um, 16 years ago, right?
00:11:55.13
Bill
Mm-hmm.
00:12:00.44
Bill
ha
00:12:06.25
Mike
So, um, you know, I kind of remembered this one from doing meditation in the morning at the Keating Center and, ah Let's see if after when I read it, when I read it, um you can pick out the phrase that jumped out at me.
00:12:21.27
Bill
The phrase that the phrase that pays, huh?
00:12:21.37
Mike
a The phrase that pays, right, from 16 years ago. all right.
00:12:26.90
Bill
Damn it. Now that's not it. That's a goddamn challenge. Now you gotta make me fucking work.
00:12:29.75
Mike
Oh, no, it's you're going to know it.
00:12:33.34
Bill
Oh, okay, okay.
00:12:33.83
Mike
All right.
00:12:34.97
Bill
hey
00:12:34.95
Mike
Anyway, so this is the 24-hour book, 24 hours a day. This is June 12th, and this is the AA Thought for the Day.
00:12:47.58
Mike
When we came into AA, we made a tremendous discovery. We found that we were sick persons rather than moral lepers. We were not such queer birds as we thought we were.
00:13:01.59
Mike
We found other people who had the same illness that we had, who had been through the same experiences we had been through. They had recovered. If they could do it, we could do it.
00:13:13.40
Mike
Was hope born in me the day that I walked into AA? Meditation for the day. Now this is where it gets all gaudy. He that heareth these sayings and doeth them is like unto a man who built his house upon a rock, and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the wind blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock.
00:13:43.29
Mike
That was all one quote. When your life is built upon obedience to God and and upon doing his will as you understand it, you will be steadfast and unmovable even in the midst of storms.
00:14:00.02
Mike
The serene, steadfast, unmovable life, the rock home, is laid stone by stone, foundation, walls, and roof by acts of obedience to the heavenly vision. The daily following of God's guidance and the daily doing of his will will build your house upon a rock.
00:14:23.83
Mike
Prayer for the day. i pray that my life be founded upon the rock of faith. I pray that I may be obedient to the heavenly vision.
00:14:35.80
Bill
Wow. Okay.
00:14:37.03
Mike
Yup.
00:14:37.62
Bill
Why do we read that every day? I mean, just.
00:14:38.78
Mike
yeah Because because we were told
00:14:44.57
Bill
No, I'm just fucking around.
00:14:44.89
Mike
ah
00:14:45.45
Bill
this so That was a, that was a lot. And I read that this morning and I wrote down um the, the line that I wrote down this morning, which is on my sheet is 24 hour book was hope born in me on the day I walked into AA.
00:14:48.47
Mike
oh
00:14:53.27
Mike
yes
00:14:58.88
Bill
Was that the line or no?
00:14:59.22
Mike
right that is it
00:15:01.46
Bill
Okay. So I literally, I wrote that down on my sheet because I wanted add, I wanted to talk about that.
00:15:05.98
Mike
aha
00:15:06.38
Bill
So that's kind of funny because that's, that's when he chose that reading and I wrote it down again.
00:15:09.59
Mike
a
00:15:11.10
Bill
Cause I'm like, Ooh, that that's what I have. But I'm like, other than I'm like, there's faith in there. There's foundation. We talk about these things, but I'm like, God, I wonder if it is that like, it's literally it's how, how fucking weird that.
00:15:15.99
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:15:21.02
Bill
um And seriously, when, when you said 24 hour book and I'm like, I wrote something down for that. Was that today?
00:15:25.94
Mike
Yeah. Uh-huh.
00:15:26.30
Bill
you know I'm like, As soon as you said it, i'm like, oh, fuck it. That's just really weird.
00:15:30.58
Mike
yeah
00:15:31.18
Bill
Really weird.
00:15:31.67
Mike
aha
00:15:32.89
Bill
So curiosity wise, what date we might, I kind of wonder if we were at, what was June 12th? Hang on one second. I'm going to look up June. What day was June 12th, 2010?
00:15:44.67
Mike
Uh-huh. Yes.
00:15:47.74
Bill
ah we' We're at Founders Day.
00:15:49.73
Mike
Were we?
00:15:50.64
Bill
Yep. Saturday, June 12th, 2010.
00:15:52.73
Mike
yeah All right.
00:15:54.35
Bill
Isn't that fucking weird?
00:15:55.54
Mike
Isn't that weird? Yes. That was right. You were forced to go. I wanted to go.
00:16:03.26
Bill
Yeah, but that's, God, that's fucking weird. I mean, because, you know, again, for you to pick that reading, I wrote down that thing. And then, I mean, this weekend, you know, for, for everyone who doesn't know, it is Founders Day weekend. We're not going this year, which, you know, I mean, ah we can, we can explain if anyone cares, but, um, or not, it doesn't really matter one way or the other, but, um,
00:16:13.46
Mike
Right. a
00:16:18.49
Mike
If anyone cares, we'll explain even if you don't care.
00:16:20.18
Bill
Yeah, if don't care, we'll explain.
00:16:22.46
Mike
Right?
00:16:23.19
Bill
But um but yeah, that was the that was the first Founders Day that we went to.
00:16:23.34
Mike
Right?
00:16:28.03
Bill
And yeah, exactly that.
00:16:28.22
Mike
Right?
00:16:28.91
Bill
I was i was taken and and mike was Mike went down actually by choice. And you know from that point forward, with the exception of now this year, pandemic years, two of them.
00:16:33.08
Mike
and Right.
00:16:37.24
Mike
h right
00:16:38.97
Bill
And then there was one year when a few years ago, the first year my grandson was born.
00:16:43.26
Mike
right
00:16:44.06
Bill
Um, that I, I babysat that weekend because, uh, my daughter and son-in-law, but other than that, I mean, you you got to figure for the majority of, you know, for 75% of the, of the time we've been sober, we've been at founder's day, you know, this roughly around this weekend, you know, but, uh, how, how crazy that that is the, you know, again, today, today was the day, you know, again, 16 years ago.
00:16:46.39
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:16:54.51
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Yep.
00:17:01.51
Mike
Yeah, it was. Uh-huh.
00:17:04.14
Bill
So crazy. so um So, yes. I mean, and i was joking about why we read that. But, um yeah, reading that middle part, I'm thinking, God, if if somebody, and that was why it was so hard. When when we, let me step back a little bit, just in case anyone doesn't remember this whole meditation thing that you were talking about.
00:17:17.65
Mike
Yeah.
00:17:20.74
Bill
Because sometimes I don't try to forget it. I try to forget just listening to a reading because the problem that I ran into to tonight was what I ran into to begin with, but on a much higher level because I i just, I didn't know what to think at that time.
00:17:34.55
Bill
you know But before I got a book where I could follow along, I couldn't understand anything. you know And we had to go around.
00:17:41.11
Mike
excuse
00:17:41.95
Bill
we Every morning, 8 o'clock, right? 8 o'clock?
00:17:44.82
Mike
yeah
00:17:45.46
Bill
Okay. 8 a.m. every morning. We gathered either sometimes outside under the other the the tent that was out there. Wintertime, obviously, in the classroom. It was cold, blah, blah, blah. And then this was our the thing.
00:17:56.36
Bill
We read the 24-hour book, and then you had to go around the room. You had to comment on something. It could be nonsense, but you you couldn't just pass.
00:18:00.41
Mike
Yep.
00:18:03.04
Bill
You had to comment.
00:18:03.77
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:18:04.09
Bill
You know, and he was trying to get us, Marty was trying to get us to, you know, if nothing else, be involved.
00:18:04.33
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:18:08.93
Bill
get Come out of your skin a little bit and, you know, be involved in this process, you know.
00:18:09.24
Mike
Yes. Mm-hmm.
00:18:13.25
Mike
Right.
00:18:13.49
Bill
um
00:18:13.72
Mike
Exactly.
00:18:15.03
Bill
But to begin with, you know, not everyone had a book, you know, so I ended up getting the the book from my sister and it was my dad's original one that he used.
00:18:18.19
Mike
Yeah.
00:18:24.59
Bill
And, you know, people get all kind of to look at this real quick. And it was it was his the one that he used and it was falling apart.
00:18:30.02
Mike
Sure.
00:18:30.55
Bill
So I I stopped giving it i stopped bringing it in there because it was getting ruined.
00:18:30.65
Mike
Right.
00:18:34.58
Mike
Right.
00:18:35.48
Bill
I either bought one or whatever it was. And, but I couldn't focus on that reading unless I was looking at it.
00:18:37.02
Mike
o
00:18:42.22
Bill
And when you just read this now, I'm like, gee, that's why I was joking.
00:18:42.25
Mike
Right.
00:18:44.81
Mike
Yeah.
00:18:45.86
Bill
I'm like, fuck me.
00:18:46.27
Mike
Yeah, yeah.
00:18:47.06
Bill
You know, it is, it's a lot of whatever's, you know, but I mean, I can completely comprehend it.
00:18:49.69
Mike
yeah yeah
00:18:52.69
Bill
I'm into it It's the first thing I'm reading every morning. So I'm, I'm as tired as I'm going to be the entire day for the most part, or as close to waking up as I was as close to, you know, being dead asleep.
00:18:54.69
Mike
Mm-hmm. Me too. Yeah. Right.
00:19:01.72
Mike
Exactly. Mm-hmm.
00:19:03.81
Bill
Um,
00:19:04.43
Mike
Right.
00:19:05.24
Bill
But I mean, some interesting stuff, though, you know, like to begin with this discovering that we were, you know, sick rather than lepers. You know, I thought that was interesting.
00:19:12.09
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:19:13.84
Bill
um Others with the same illness. Yes, we're not alone. The Hope Bourne thing was in there.
00:19:18.30
Mike
right
00:19:20.11
Bill
And then all the talk about the the foundation. But um besides the unless you want to just go ahead and talk about that, that statement right away, your choice. What do you want to talk about first, that statement or any other part of the reading?
00:19:31.48
Mike
um I mean, you know, it's yes, it's we read it every day and we continue to read it every day. And, you know, everybody knows I you know, when I read it to myself in the morning, um wherever it says God, I lower the G and add no.
00:19:48.39
Mike
So it's good.
00:19:48.92
Bill
Right.
00:19:49.51
Mike
And, um you know, the the heavenly vision, you know, I just, you know, um sort of, you know, realize that, you know, there is no heavenly vision.
00:19:53.68
Bill
Right.
00:19:59.79
Mike
It's, it's you know, the the goodness, you know, whatever. Yeah, the positive energy, whatever. um Yeah, you know, but I continue to read it. But yes, yeah.
00:20:10.90
Mike
Reading it it, it talks about building the foundation and being able to weather storms and, um you know, you build from the ground up and all that. And yeah, you know, that's that's what I took from it.
00:20:23.75
Mike
That's what I took from it this morning. And and. um you know, happy that I have this foundation that I put the work in, that I built this house that can weather a storm today.
00:20:34.67
Mike
um Yeah, you know, and I'm grateful that I put the work in and and now I have this house that weathers storms and it's it's pretty goddamn nice.
00:20:34.99
Bill
Right.
00:20:44.58
Mike
You know, I'm not going to, something bad happens, something, you know, there's, there's weather there's, you know, rain and wind and snow and, you know, yeah. Um, the, the shelter that I built for myself in this world is going to stand and, um, you know, it might be a little rough going, but when it's over with, I'm still going to be standing with my foundation and, uh, yeah, you know, so yeah, it's pretty good.
00:21:09.70
Bill
Right.
00:21:12.62
Mike
And, and what is built? What is the phrase that pays?
00:21:16.60
Bill
ah Well, that would be the, uh, was, was hope born in me the day I walked into AA.
00:21:22.13
Mike
No. Queer bird.
00:21:25.33
Bill
Oh, okay. Well, cause that's what, but yeah, I mean, I heard that, but I'm like, ah, that can't be it.
00:21:30.58
Mike
Come on, man.
00:21:34.30
Bill
That can't be it.
00:21:34.68
Mike
Oh, yeah.
00:21:34.90
Bill
But okay. Yeah.
00:21:36.18
Mike
Come on. We are not queer birds. who who Yes, I am.
00:21:41.78
Bill
Yeah.
00:21:42.07
Mike
But out in the world, I am.
00:21:42.14
Bill
Okay.
00:21:44.15
Mike
i go into a church basement.
00:21:44.50
Bill
Right.
00:21:45.87
Mike
No, I'm i'm the same as everybody else.
00:21:48.25
Bill
Right. No. And I, it's, I, I, I heard that, but I'm like, God, I can't be it. And then that's why, that's why I asked about the, the 24 hour book, the hope born in the day and blah, blah, blah.
00:21:52.86
Mike
Yeah. yeah
00:21:56.60
Bill
That's what, that's what I thought you meant was the, was the, the main line.
00:21:57.02
Mike
Right.
00:21:59.60
Bill
So, um, but no, I, I get it now.
00:22:01.14
Mike
Well, that is the main. Yeah, that But it's, yeah, the one that jumped out.
00:22:05.78
Bill
Yeah, you know, the the funny part is is that I don't, there's certain times that I don't even, because a 24-hour book out of out of all of them will have things like that.
00:22:14.16
Mike
Aw.
00:22:14.78
Bill
You know, it will say certain things.
00:22:15.12
Mike
Right.
00:22:16.34
Bill
And there were, I remember, you know, being in in the meditation group like that and having some sort, it the word, I'm sorry, you know, obviously gay used to be happy and, you know, queer bird was just strange.
00:22:16.96
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:22:21.53
Mike
Right.
00:22:25.79
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:22:27.52
Bill
You know, I mean, all these all these terms that mean, you know, could be considered either derogatory or have specific meaning now or different meaning now.
00:22:27.61
Mike
Right?
00:22:34.52
Mike
Different, right?
00:22:35.74
Bill
You know, i mean, just, yeah, you can take a look at all these different things from years ago.
00:22:35.77
Mike
Right?
00:22:38.98
Bill
I don't think about it as much because maybe just because we've been reading it so much, but I do remember being in in this the meditation meetings like that having these words come up and it was just like, what the fuck?
00:22:42.36
Mike
Right?
00:22:49.10
Bill
What the fuck?
00:22:49.50
Mike
this
00:22:52.92
Bill
But, um, yeah, I mean, I don't know. so Sometimes with that, with that 24 hour book and I do the same thing now and that the, the whole God down to good, um, started here on this podcast and I was still in Wisconsin.
00:23:00.97
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:23:04.60
Bill
It was the first few months when we were doing this, when you mentioned it. And I, and I know for a fact, based on what to tell you after the break, I know for a fact of when it, when it happened, it happened roughly around the first, the first month or so, first couple of months, and um, And, you know, so when when that happened, I do the same thing.
00:23:08.37
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:23:11.15
Mike
Okay.
00:23:13.49
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:23:16.37
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:23:21.15
Bill
Every once in a while, I'll read it. and it um It doesn't bother me one way or the other. I don't give a fuck, you know.
00:23:25.76
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:23:27.27
Bill
In the same thing, in in my prayers on a daily basis, one time in the morning or no.
00:23:32.67
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:23:33.50
Bill
Two times in the morning and one time at night, um I use the the word God in my when i when I do things.
00:23:38.10
Mike
and Okay.
00:23:40.04
Bill
I don't know why I do that there, and I don't do it when I say the serenity prayer you know in a meeting or anything like that.
00:23:40.31
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:23:44.98
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:23:46.96
Bill
There's just certain things that it's weird, but it it just is. you know
00:23:50.07
Mike
Yeah.
00:23:50.65
Bill
um So I don't have an issue with the word, but it's not my thing. And we know it's not your thing, you know?
00:23:53.72
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:23:54.89
Bill
So I love the good part, but there are certain times when, you know, it's like 12 of them and i'm like, good, good, good, good.
00:24:01.53
Mike
Yeah.
00:24:01.97
Bill
I'm like, Jesus
00:24:02.33
Mike
a Right. Yeah. Well, I mean, you know, oh thankfully I had done it enough that, yeah, sometimes I could just, you know, i would just, yeah, God, okay. Moving on.
00:24:14.39
Mike
I don't have to, you know, there was a period where I specifically had to stop and think about it and change it and think about what that change meant and blah, blah, blah.
00:24:15.22
Bill
yeah yeah
00:24:26.55
Mike
You know, yeah.
00:24:26.83
Bill
Right.
00:24:27.35
Mike
Sometimes now it's just, and there's that God word. Okay. Yeah. I know what it means. I know what it means to me, blah, blah, blah.
00:24:32.18
Bill
Right.
00:24:32.31
Mike
Moving on.
00:24:33.46
Bill
Yeah, it's a it's a fucking word, you know, and, you know, in even though in in the fact that we don't that we don't, you know, believe in in that certain thing or we don't you know subscribe to that, you know, that type of you know thing.
00:24:35.37
Mike
Yep.
00:24:42.75
Mike
Right.
00:24:44.46
Bill
um You know, it's again these days it's not even neither one of us will bring it up.
00:24:44.76
Mike
Right.
00:24:48.94
Bill
It usually gets brought up on, on here every once in a while when we're talking specifically about something like that, like when you're trying to make a point of saying that, you know, you could do this thing without having a God thing, you know, mentioning that you're, you're an atheist that prays every day and that sort of thing, you know, and, you know, so back it up that point, or when we have a guest on a lot of times it comes up nonchalantly.
00:24:52.12
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:24:55.36
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:25:04.05
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:25:07.75
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:25:09.61
Bill
It's not like, you know, you're, you're a God person.
00:25:10.57
Mike
Yeah.
00:25:12.96
Bill
Yeah.
00:25:13.66
Mike
Right.
00:25:13.75
Bill
okay
00:25:14.06
Mike
Oh, yeah. No, no. I definitely don't do that anymore.
00:25:15.35
Bill
ha Right?
00:25:18.20
Mike
That's way old behavior.
00:25:18.61
Bill
edd Anymore. e Anymore.
00:25:19.44
Mike
Yeah, I know.
00:25:22.23
Bill
No, I know. And, you know, the the thing of it is, and that that's the only thing that I know I've said it before probably, ah you know, a ton of times, but I am so thankful that I came into this thing, you know, that that we do here without any back background whatsoever with religion.
00:25:23.39
Mike
Yeah.
00:25:33.43
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:25:38.24
Bill
I mean, i went to I went to church.
00:25:38.70
Mike
Right.
00:25:40.08
Bill
I went to Sunday school, had no real connection with anything.
00:25:40.60
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:25:43.96
Bill
We did it just because we did it.
00:25:44.40
Mike
Right.
00:25:45.84
Bill
And, you know, um sometimes, you know, mom would take us.
00:25:46.22
Mike
Yeah.
00:25:48.33
Bill
Dad was more into it than, know, you know, than not, but even he wouldn't take us all the time. And it wasn't like, it wasn't, it wasn't a big part of our lives.
00:25:52.95
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:25:55.85
Bill
And then when we got out on our own, we just, you know, nobody went anymore, you know?
00:25:56.23
Mike
Sure. Yeah. Yeah.
00:26:00.27
Bill
So I didn't have, not only did I not have a ah place that way, but I'm thankful that, that I didn't have this this underlying, and I'll call it hatred, because we've talked to some people that you know had a real hatred for you know for God and religion and people that they've been wronged about.
00:26:10.98
Mike
Mm-hmm. Oh, sure. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:26:17.02
Bill
Not that they were even you know physically hurt, but they felt wronged by you know the religion.
00:26:19.90
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, right. The concept of, yeah, whatever. Yeah, you know, yeah, this this loving, intelligent, all powerful thing.
00:26:24.70
Bill
Yeah.
00:26:28.02
Bill
Yeah.
00:26:29.55
Mike
um Yeah, right. You know, it caused, yeah allowed pain to happen in their lives or whatever. That's, yeah, exactly. oh I understand it.
00:26:37.53
Bill
Right. Right.
00:26:38.31
Mike
You know, is I feel bad for them because, you know, right. You know, bad shit happens because, you know, so does good shit. Doesn't have anything to do with anything.
00:26:47.13
Bill
Right. Yeah. And I'm just, I'm glad, I'm glad I didn't come in with that because that, uh, I didn't, once it was explained that, that very, very simple statement, just, you know, from, from a higher standpoint, just know that it it's not me.
00:26:50.80
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:26:57.22
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:26:58.49
Bill
And I'm like, I, that I can do, you know, and that, that's, you know, that was the, the foundation, you know, coming back to this, that was that first brick that was laid by our friend, Dan, you know, who passed away a couple of years ago now.
00:26:58.68
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:27:04.90
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:27:08.92
Mike
Right. Yep.
00:27:10.90
Bill
But it was a good dude to us and, you know, a good, just a good, i mean, got stories upon stories about things he did for us.
00:27:13.32
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:27:17.74
Bill
But that was one of the big ones because that was early, you know, really fucking early, you know.
00:27:18.68
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Right. Yeah.
00:27:22.99
Bill
But so the foundation part, too, and like you and I love the the thing with is the foundation part. The reason I always love that is it's and you just explained it as a complete visual of, you know, this house that you built and it can weather the storm and all sort of things.
00:27:33.35
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:27:35.55
Mike
Yeah.
00:27:37.87
Mike
Yep.
00:27:38.30
Bill
And, you know, I've said it before and I continue to be, you know, I don't know. Can't imagine it's going to change. I'm a visual person. I need that, you know.
00:27:45.96
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:27:46.51
Bill
And when, you know, the whole foundation thing. And I remember when I moved, when I was moving back to Wisconsin and everyone's like, you got to go to meetings. You got to find your people out there.
00:27:54.13
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:27:54.23
Bill
You got to do this. You got to do that. The only thing that I didn't do right away is I didn't, I had a, had a sponsor name, you know, a couple of times.
00:28:01.09
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:28:02.25
Bill
And Joe used, Joe used to get on me about that.
00:28:04.55
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:28:04.91
Bill
Uh, cause I would still, you know, I'd see him when I came back and I was back in Ohio and I was more comfortable with him, you know?
00:28:07.62
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:28:10.28
Bill
Um, but I still had all that, you know, all that foundation. And then, you know, the whole pandemic thing hits and, you know, we had 10 years of this shit behind us and, you know, 10 I'll, I'll consider maybe certainly not perfect years, but good years.
00:28:16.82
Mike
Yeah.
00:28:19.84
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:28:23.54
Mike
Yeah.
00:28:23.99
Bill
Um,
00:28:24.06
Mike
Yeah.
00:28:25.14
Bill
You know, and in a really strong foundation. So it's just kind of like, okay, not only is the world all fucked up, our our sober life and what would not a sober life, but our sober structure just got all fucked up.
00:28:28.79
Mike
Yeah. Yep.
00:28:34.72
Mike
Mm-hmm. sure right yeah just keep on yeah right keep doing the same shit that we've been doing yeah right you know and i mean i've talked about it but yeah personally i loved it because there were fewer people in my way
00:28:37.12
Bill
So now what do we do? Well, we just, we adapt. That's what we do. All
00:28:49.37
Bill
right.
00:28:51.02
Mike
yeah
00:28:52.70
Bill
Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah. I mean, just in general, I mean, like i said, I worked, I worked downtown at the time driving downtown, you know, from where I had lived was a fucking breeze.
00:28:57.27
Mike
yeah
00:29:02.75
Bill
And then when people started going back to work, I mean, you know, then my commute on the way home was turning into 40 and 45 minutes and sometimes 50 minutes.
00:29:05.63
Mike
Mm-hmm. Uh-huh.
00:29:09.75
Bill
And I'm just like, fuck me, you know.
00:29:11.59
Mike
Yup.
00:29:12.54
Bill
The morning wasn't a big deal unless it was weather issues or, ah you know, some dick that got, you know, ran off the road. But I used to go in early enough where it was never a problem.
00:29:17.43
Mike
Right.
00:29:20.06
Bill
But, yeah, all that that part of it was that, yeah, the pandemic was it was a lot of shit that went on with it. But of course.
00:29:25.53
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:29:26.22
Bill
But, yeah, some of these these positive things that I read back, well, I read back at, you know, some of these memories on Facebook and stuff like that. You know, some of the memes at that point, the one I ran across the other day where, You know, I had this guy like with this weird fucking look on his face, like, what are you doing?
00:29:42.38
Bill
And it's like the only time in in the world when, you know, it became, you know, socially okay. If, if somebody, you know, got too close to you to look at him, buddy, like, you know, or somebody happens to bump you like, what the fuck you doing?
00:29:49.75
Mike
Right.
00:29:53.38
Bill
You know?
00:29:53.53
Mike
Right. Uh-huh.
00:29:54.23
Bill
And I mean, people are like, oh I'm so, they would apologize to you. You know, sorry, man. Didn't mean to get within your radius.
00:29:59.83
Mike
Exactly.
00:30:01.17
Bill
You're like, yeah, yeah. That's a, there's the positive part of this fucking pandemic.
00:30:02.84
Mike
Yeah. Exactly. Six feet away.
00:30:05.06
Bill
Yeah.
00:30:05.97
Mike
It was beautiful.
00:30:06.69
Bill
Yeah. Yeah. And then the one it's like, yeah the you know, oh you ghosted me. Nope. i social distanced you.
00:30:14.02
Mike
That's right.
00:30:16.70
Bill
I don't know. It's just, yeah, all that stuff. But they're, you know, even listening to, cause I'm listening some of these old episodes with Joe Rogan and they're back, you know, pandemic and then coming out of it, you know, talking about this, all these unknowns and stuff like that.
00:30:25.78
Mike
Right.
00:30:27.66
Bill
And it's kind of funny, but it it puts me, puts me back in that where, I mean, nobody knew what the fuck was going to happen next, you know?
00:30:32.25
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:30:34.26
Bill
And I mean, regardless of anyone's opinions about this, that, and the other thing, you know, everyone still had, you know, everyone's in the same goddamn boat, literally every fucking where, you know?
00:30:40.66
Mike
Right. Yes. Mm-hmm.
00:30:44.12
Bill
So, but no, I, you know, as much as the, I didn't understand the middle part, just listening to the the reading, but um I liked it.
00:30:49.50
Mike
Oh.
00:30:51.00
Bill
I, I read it every morning. It's the first thing that I read. And yeah, it was just kind of funny that, well, and let me go back to the statement that I, that I wrote down the one that's not the queer bird one.
00:30:59.56
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:30:59.76
Bill
We we learned about that one, but
00:31:00.41
Mike
Yes.
00:31:01.91
Bill
So do you think in the the reason I wrote it down, because i I wasn't sure if I or I guess how you felt about that statement was hope born in me the day I walked into AA.
00:31:09.62
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:31:11.78
Bill
Do you I mean, do you think it was was that the day that that happened or or no? Right.
00:31:16.00
Mike
I mean, no.
00:31:16.12
Bill
Right.
00:31:17.53
Mike
Well, I mean, you know, I'd been in AA before.
00:31:22.17
Bill
right
00:31:22.41
Mike
um You know, just... But i and the the the sentiment of the statement, yes, absolutely. you know Coming from you know realizing that we weren't you know bad people and you know we were just sick and all that.
00:31:37.68
Mike
um Yes, that and and mostly...
00:31:38.14
Bill
Right.
00:31:42.04
Mike
Seeing people that were the same as me and they had found a way to get past it, you know, and if they can, I could.
00:31:52.42
Mike
And so, yes, that is the very definition of hope.
00:31:52.94
Bill
Right.
00:31:55.70
Mike
And so, yes, um you know, being at the Keating Center, seeing Marty with, you know, coming up on five years, which was insane to us.
00:31:56.25
Bill
Right.
00:32:04.72
Bill
Yeah.
00:32:05.11
Mike
Um, you know, and yeah, right.
00:32:06.94
Bill
yeah
00:32:07.91
Mike
You know, and see and guys like Dan and and whatever, you know, again, people that were the same as I was and had found a way to move past it and then live ah a happy life, joyous and free was, uh, yeah, yeah.
00:32:20.91
Bill
Right.
00:32:22.25
Mike
Goddamn right. I was hopeful. Yeah.
00:32:24.92
Bill
Yeah, and you know, the the thing of it is, and I didn't think about it much at the at the time I wrote that down, but just ah just a little bit, because my first thought was not immediately, or at least I didn't i didn't realize that I had found that hope, but I know I know i did, you know, at least within the first couple of days, easily within the first week, definitely within the first couple of weeks, whether I would have, I didn't know enough to admit it at that time that that that's what I had, but i but I know looking back now that I did.
00:32:35.37
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Right. Mm-hmm. Right.
00:32:47.00
Mike
Right. Uh-huh.
00:32:51.34
Bill
You know, because I remember, you know, talking to Kathy within a week or two, a couple of weeks, whatever it was, maybe three weeks, you know, of being there.
00:32:51.54
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:32:58.26
Bill
And she was just like, you know, you kind of seem to be into this now.
00:32:58.55
Mike
Right. Right.
00:33:00.54
Bill
And I'm like, well, don't know. I said, we're learning some stuff. We're talking about this. We're doing all this, you know, this step.
00:33:03.94
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:33:04.98
Bill
And then probably that the Dan thing with, you know, having that sort of, you know, it doesn't have to be me type of thing.
00:33:05.32
Mike
Right.
00:33:10.76
Bill
um You know, having having Uncle John asked me, he's like, is it hard talking to these people?
00:33:10.76
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:33:15.44
Bill
I'm like, no, it's harder.
00:33:15.70
Mike
Right.
00:33:16.32
Bill
It's harder talking to you, you know.
00:33:17.02
Mike
Yes. Right.
00:33:18.55
Bill
And, and, you know, yeah the look on his face, like what? i'm like, I don't mean that in a bad way, but I'm like, these, these guys understand, you know, I, without me saying it, they're, they're speaking my language.
00:33:22.65
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:33:27.62
Bill
They've been where I've been. i didn't know to say that then, but I'm like, but I'm like, they, they just get it type of thing, you know?
00:33:28.86
Mike
Mm-hmm. Sure.
00:33:33.59
Mike
Yeah.
00:33:34.55
Bill
And then, yeah, you start hearing, and I don't know what I heard my story, quote unquote, for the first time, but I heard versions right away.
00:33:38.04
Mike
m
00:33:40.71
Bill
You know, I remember seeing these three quarter guys that lived over in the trailer and like, how the fuck can these guys be sober for six months?
00:33:40.76
Mike
Right.
00:33:44.47
Mike
m
00:33:46.79
Bill
I'm like, you know, I'm like, I can't, I don't understand it.
00:33:46.78
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah, right.
00:33:50.32
Bill
You know? And then Marty was just, oh yeah, five fucking years.
00:33:52.41
Mike
yeah right
00:33:52.62
Bill
He's there was, that was everything in Dan at the time with around the same amount of time, if not more. Right. I mean, didn't he have probably a little more?
00:33:57.05
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah. little Yeah. More. More. Yeah. Probably three or four years more. I mean, he was, yeah, he was, he was probably around eight years when we met him.
00:34:07.10
Bill
Yeah, and I don't even remember um Chris, you know, the the other Chris that didn't go through the Keating Center, but Mike Rowley's sponsor, you know, and I say only, but he only had two years on us at the time.
00:34:09.85
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Right.
00:34:16.38
Bill
And, you know, the way that he carried himself, I'm like, that dude's good he's got his shit together, you know?
00:34:16.57
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
00:34:21.02
Bill
And, I mean, you can't you can't fathom that.
00:34:21.05
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:34:23.22
Bill
Then, you know, you talk to or talk about a guy like, you know, my sponsor, Bill. I mean, he had, you know, 17 years at the time.
00:34:27.42
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:34:29.35
Bill
I mean, he had what we have basically now, 16, 17 years, you know?
00:34:31.96
Mike
Yeah. Right.
00:34:33.39
Bill
And I'm like, i who are you, you know?
00:34:35.67
Mike
a Yeah.
00:34:36.86
Bill
And then you go to Keating, you know, Keating men's, which is 200 some people or 150 that we end up at fucking West park men's and it's 250 plus.
00:34:40.61
Mike
Right. Right.
00:34:44.14
Bill
And I'm like, where the fuck did all these goddamn drunks come from? Jesus Christ.
00:34:50.52
Mike
yep
00:34:50.58
Bill
it's not like I hadn't been around and I didn't know of, you know, with my dad and whatever, but man, I just, I didn't know, you know, I didn't know what I didn't know.
00:34:53.24
Mike
uha right
00:34:56.98
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:34:57.83
Bill
Yeah.
00:34:58.38
Mike
Yep.
00:35:00.57
Bill
But yeah, I never, i never would. It's not even that I didn't, even as angry as I was at the time, it's not that I didn't want to admit that I had hope or whatever. I just didn't, I didn't fucking know.
00:35:09.40
Mike
Right.
00:35:10.91
Bill
i had, I didn't know.
00:35:11.32
Mike
Sure.
00:35:12.27
Bill
I didn't know what I had, you know?
00:35:13.62
Mike
Yeah, exactly.
00:35:14.04
Bill
I was just...
00:35:14.54
Mike
Yeah, we're incapable of recognizing it, even though it was there right in our fucking faces.
00:35:14.76
Bill
Yeah.
00:35:20.78
Mike
sweet Yeah.
00:35:21.02
Bill
yeah
00:35:21.91
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah.
00:35:22.86
Bill
you're You're wearing a green shirt. i Okay, fine. I believe you. you know i do I don't know.
00:35:26.52
Mike
Sure, right. I don't know.
00:35:27.96
Bill
Here, and tomorrow you're going to wear the same green shirt. Fine. I i i didn't even know what's green it's green.
00:35:31.45
Mike
Okay.
00:35:34.18
Bill
You tell me it's green, I guess it's green.
00:35:34.17
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:35:36.21
Bill
I don't fucking know. But um again, good, good reading. i'm I'm actually glad you chose that because, you know, that the funny thing is, is that I think today I picked a reading that I posted on Instagram out of God Grant Me, which has been a while since I picked one out of there.
00:35:52.57
Bill
um And it's just been over the last couple of weeks, it has it's been hard to find a reading that just kind of grabs me, you know, and I don't know why.
00:35:58.52
Mike
All right.
00:35:59.37
Bill
But I mean, I've got I've got fucking years and years of screenshots, you know. On my phone. So I just, I literally, I kind of, I just, I spin, you know, you just, well, you know, on your phone, you just put spin back and it's like back to September of 2022.
00:36:08.89
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
00:36:13.46
Bill
And I'm like, scroll, scroll, scroll, click, click, click. That one looks good. you know, and then I usually know by the way the writing is, which which book is from, you know, I got a pretty goddamn good idea.
00:36:16.92
Mike
Yep.
00:36:22.00
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:36:24.10
Bill
Keep it simple.
00:36:24.09
Mike
Right.
00:36:25.04
Bill
It's easy to figure out. God grant me usually is easy. And then if I don't understand the structure, it's what I used to read a day at a time.
00:36:27.92
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:36:31.42
Bill
So, I mean, I know I I can get a pretty good idea where these things are from, but. um yeah just been It feels like it's been a little hard to pull. And I'm not saying not that not that they're not good readings. There's something in it that doesn't.
00:36:41.34
Mike
Sure.
00:36:42.86
Bill
It's like, this is good, but it's got this in it. And this is great, but that's got that in it.
00:36:45.17
Mike
Right.
00:36:46.74
Bill
you know You're looking for that perfect recipe of, ah, there's this.
00:36:49.82
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Well, yeah we know that's what fucking fools Aaron.
00:36:53.56
Bill
okay Yeah, and you know what's funny? Sometimes and it's it's happened, I mean, a countless number of times over the years, is I'll grab a reading just because I'm looking through. I'm like, you know what? Fuck it. I'm using this one.
00:37:04.77
Mike
Yep.
00:37:05.16
Bill
I'm not into it, but I'm posting this one. And it gets it gets shared a bunch of times.
00:37:07.27
Mike
Yeah.
00:37:09.35
Bill
People comment on it.
00:37:09.62
Mike
Right.
00:37:10.55
Bill
People fucking love it. I'm like, well, then something's wrong with me.
00:37:12.21
Mike
Right. Exactly. I'm the problem. Hey, look at that
00:37:17.14
Bill
Yeah. um Imagine that. I'm the fucking problem. Oh, boy. Anything else, though, in the reading that jumped out at you?
00:37:27.37
Mike
Yeah, exactly. you know We've got got this foundation that we built and it's pretty goddamn nice.
00:37:34.27
Bill
Right. You know, and it was this kind of funny. I wrote down one other thing. I haven't, I didn't read this yet, but let's, let's read this and see what it says. Also 24 hour book.
00:37:40.83
Mike
All right.
00:37:42.33
Bill
We've talked a lot about the fact that it's a very God focused. There we go.
00:37:45.34
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:37:45.97
Bill
And I'm just curious if you ever wondered why we kept reading it, even though then, well, we just answered that question. Yeah.
00:37:51.42
Mike
We did.
00:37:51.53
Bill
I said that jokingly, but fuck, I wrote, I wrote that Jesus Christ.
00:37:52.92
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
00:37:55.96
Bill
You know, I, I don't even know this. That's fucking weird. I didn't remember that. I wrote that down.
00:38:00.57
Mike
yeah We keep reading it because it was the first one, and that's pulling a brick out of the foundation, and that's some dangerous shit, man.
00:38:07.84
Bill
Right.
00:38:09.04
Mike
This ain't no game of Jenga.
00:38:09.59
Bill
No. No, and I agree with you. I just, I can't believe that I joked about that, and but I literally wrote that down because I said, you know, that it doesn't really line up with what you and I believe.
00:38:16.37
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:38:18.94
Mike
Right.
00:38:19.09
Bill
Why do we keep reading it? And knew the answer, but...
00:38:20.44
Mike
Yeah, but but it doesn't... Right. And again, we've just talked about it, right?
00:38:25.75
Bill
Yeah, right.
00:38:25.88
Mike
it doesn't It's not perfect for us, but a bunch of other people it is.
00:38:26.11
Bill
Right.
00:38:30.24
Mike
And and for me, um it's it's a very good exercise for me to find that nugget amongst all that garbage that's in there, you know, all the whatever, man, the subterfuge of the religious stuff and all that, that's fine, you know, but there's a nugget in there that's going to work for me.
00:38:41.17
Bill
Right.
00:38:50.25
Mike
something that I need for that day always. Or, you know, even though I don't need it, just a reinforcement of something I already know or whatever, you know, every time I read it, I do find something.
00:39:02.30
Mike
And, um you know, and the exercise of of looking for it and and maybe having to try a little harder with that one is sort of the point of reading it every day.
00:39:12.96
Bill
Right. Well, and you know, I mean, don't get me wrong. i would never, and I don't say never very often, I would never not read that book.
00:39:16.15
Mike
m Right. Right.
00:39:19.58
Bill
Because when when I sit down, and literally it is that that's the first book that I read, and I sit down at my desk or wherever I'm at, and I open it up, and I've never, and that's another thing I've never done, I've never sat down to do my readings and thought, fuck, man.
00:39:19.63
Mike
Exactly.
00:39:23.64
Mike
me too. hmm.
00:39:33.34
Bill
you know I have to do my readings.
00:39:34.78
Mike
Yeah.
00:39:34.94
Bill
um I look forward to it. I look forward to that time. It's my time regardless of where I'm at.
00:39:37.59
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:39:39.46
Bill
And in that book means something to me. Even if the words don't always make sense or or hit home to me, it does.
00:39:42.65
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:39:47.12
Bill
In the back of my head, I know for a fact it reminds me of sitting in that goddamn group room you know or outside or sitting with all those you know motherfuckers out there and you know reading this goddamn book and not knowing what to say.
00:39:50.92
Mike
Yup. Uh-huh. Right.
00:39:57.04
Bill
And you know I don't have to say anything if I don't want to, but...
00:39:57.50
Mike
Right. Can we smoke today or is one of is one of these days where Marty says no smoking?
00:40:01.43
Bill
hey
00:40:04.69
Bill
Ah, shit, man. i i I literally forgot about that. That was that everyone. It's like when it got a little bit nice, we're like, yeah, can we go outside? Because I mean, what, fucking 90% of the guys smoke there, you know?
00:40:12.25
Mike
Yeah.
00:40:15.09
Mike
Sure. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Uh-huh.
00:40:17.05
Bill
So, yeah, we're sitting there fucking smoking like chimneys out there while we're doing while we're doing a group, which was a treat, you know, fucking treat.
00:40:21.37
Mike
aha Yeah, absolutely. Except when he would say no smoking during meditation, which would last ah a week or so.
00:40:23.65
Bill
Right.
00:40:27.13
Bill
Right.
00:40:28.54
Mike
And then, you know, and then he'd lay off and we'd start smoking again. and do above ah you know, and then a couple weeks ago by it i no smoking. Okay, fine.
00:40:38.62
Bill
Right. Well, and and we've said, we've said it before. And, you know, I still believe this wholeheartedly is that, you know, his, he, he knew what he was doing on everything. You know, nothing was, nothing was accidental.
00:40:48.81
Mike
Yo. Oh,
00:40:51.25
Bill
And anytime that somebody got a little bit too comfortable doing whatever happened,
00:40:54.38
Mike
Yep.
00:40:55.32
Bill
Um, he would, he would change it up, you know, and put you in in another direction because that's what life does.
00:40:55.52
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yep, exactly. Mm-hmm. Exactly.
00:41:00.76
Bill
You know, that's what life, you know, did and is and and was, and will always be, you know, it's never just going to be, I mean, it can be be a straight line every once in a while, but.
00:41:03.97
Mike
Yep. Mm-hmm.
00:41:07.83
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You get a couple of weeks.
00:41:10.74
Bill
fucking rare.
00:41:12.01
Mike
Yep.
00:41:13.25
Bill
You're like, God damn, I just got fucked yesterday in the ass. Leave me alone for a minute.
00:41:16.89
Mike
Uh-huh. Right.
00:41:20.05
Bill
Life's so hard.
00:41:21.37
Mike
hill far far far far farfo Of course.
00:41:23.38
Bill
That's a joke. That's a fucking joke. it's Life's not god didn't nice sight easy, but Jesus Christ. you know i mean i I don't know. how what What the fuck do I have to complain about? I i got plenty, you know but i mean I don't really have a lot to complain about.
00:41:31.13
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:41:34.74
Bill
so you know I don't know.
00:41:34.90
Mike
this
00:41:36.24
Bill
if Just look at the...
00:41:36.57
Mike
And it all comes back to I am the problem.
00:41:39.73
Bill
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
00:41:39.73
Mike
your Life is as hard as I fucking want to make it.
00:41:44.43
Bill
Definitely. All right. So um this one came from in, I don't know, how i think the word came up at one point after, after we got it on Instagram, because I know for a fact that this, that this term came up, but I was listening to sober friends this weekend and they were talking about, you've heard the term imposter syndrome, haven't you?
00:41:58.00
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:42:01.22
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:42:06.07
Mike
Yeah, yeah.
00:42:08.12
Bill
Okay. And all that it is, and I never heard it. That's why i say it around the time that I got an Instagram, I think that was when I first heard it because people have, you know, basically just feeling like we don't belong or blah, blah, blah.
00:42:14.92
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:42:18.92
Bill
Like we're an imposter in our, in our lives now that this new life.
00:42:19.20
Mike
Well, yeah, right.
00:42:21.96
Bill
um
00:42:22.28
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:42:23.22
Bill
But so, I mean, I knew, I figured you had heard the term, but there was a Steve on there was telling a story. He said, this was a handful of years ago.
00:42:28.06
Mike
o
00:42:29.74
Bill
And I remember him telling the story on there. He's told it a couple of times, but it's, to me, it's a good story. He said he was um him and his wife. They had a couple over and I don't remember if I think they might have been another sober couple.
00:42:41.65
Bill
It doesn't really matter. But both of them had just bought new homes, not brand new homes, but just moved into new residences.
00:42:47.13
Mike
Right.
00:42:48.38
Bill
OK.
00:42:48.50
Mike
Right.
00:42:49.34
Bill
And so they ah Steve and his wife had this other couple over at their house. And, you know, both them had about the same, you know, they they were like at the same lifestyle, same type of house, same place in life, blah, blah, blah.
00:42:58.07
Mike
Sure.
00:43:00.78
Bill
He's that handful years older than us, whatever it was. But they they were sitting there having dinner. And I guess the wife of the at the ah of the other couple or in the other couple um said, you know, said, you know, hey, you know, why we really like your house.
00:43:11.73
Bill
And, you know, obviously, oh, we love love your house, too, type of thing is back and forth. And she says, you know, just openly, she's like, have you ever thought that someday somebody might knock on your door, you open it up and then they'll tell you that you don't belong here.
00:43:16.02
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:43:25.73
Bill
You know, this isn't, you know, that like the talking heads, you know, this isn't your house.
00:43:26.17
Mike
yeah Right?
00:43:29.09
Bill
This isn't your car. It's not your beautiful life or wife or whatever.
00:43:30.53
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah.
00:43:33.13
Bill
um And I thought about that. I'm like, I'm like, you know what? I've heard that story at least two, three times that he's told that. But have you ever thought or felt that way? You know, that.
00:43:43.54
Bill
but maybe I don't know how to put it. I'm not going words in your mouth. Have you ever felt that way where you felt like you don't belong in this life that you have today?
00:43:51.93
Mike
No, not in the life I have today. No, absolutely not.
00:43:54.26
Bill
Okay. Okay.
00:43:55.61
Mike
Because again, it comes back to building that foundation and and I put the work in and, you know, yeah, anybody comes to my door today and says, you don't belong here. This isn't yours.
00:44:06.55
Bill
hey
00:44:06.69
Mike
I'm going to laugh at them and close the door in their face.
00:44:12.38
Bill
ah yeah You know, it's funny. And I swear to fucking God, because I was listening to the story. this is the reason I brought it up. Because I thought through this because I've heard his story a few different times, you know.
00:44:22.74
Mike
Sure.
00:44:23.34
Bill
But I'm like, at this time, I'm going to write it down. I don't know why i didn't before. But that was my, not necessarily laughing and shutting the door, but same concept. um I have, there's nothing in my life that would make me believe that I don't belong here.
00:44:37.05
Mike
Right.
00:44:37.72
Bill
Not a thing, you know, and to your exact words, I thought I worked for everything that I have.
00:44:39.09
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:44:43.54
Bill
I've also worked for everything I don't have, you know, and the things that I don't have is because I've only done this amount of work.
00:44:45.53
Mike
Yeah. yeah
00:44:49.54
Bill
And if I if I didn't reach a particular goal, that's on me again.
00:44:49.94
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:44:53.14
Bill
I'm the problem.
00:44:53.98
Mike
Right.
00:44:54.26
Bill
You know, and if I, again, if I, if I don't have this or do have that or whatever the case is good, bad, or indifferent, let's go back to what you always say. It's my fucking fault. You know, it's I'm responsible for it.
00:45:04.43
Mike
Yep.
00:45:06.50
Bill
I'm responsible for the bad part. I'm responsible for the good part.
00:45:08.32
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:45:09.74
Bill
So that's literally my, my exact thought.
00:45:09.96
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:45:12.51
Bill
I'm like, Hey, nobody's going to come around because, you know, Steve's thought and, and, you know, the other people that are like, yeah, you know, every once in a while, I just feel like an imposter.
00:45:12.92
Mike
Yeah.
00:45:17.88
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:45:19.87
Bill
And that seems to be a very popular thing.
00:45:20.09
Mike
Right.
00:45:22.55
Bill
in the recovery community.
00:45:22.70
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:45:23.95
Bill
You know, there's a lot of people that gain that, you know, gain these things back and then feel like, shit, I don't belong here.
00:45:24.22
Mike
Yeah. Right.
00:45:28.99
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Right. I mean, I, I, when we went on that retreat, one of the groups that we split off into, there was a guy there, same thing.
00:45:39.62
Mike
That's he was taught. He's, I don't know. He had maybe two years, something like that. It was around that. And, um and he was like, that was his thing.
00:45:46.26
Bill
Right.
00:45:49.04
Mike
He was like, I don't, I don't feel like I deserve it and all that stuff. And it, I did think about at the time. I actually talked to him and I was like, dude, I looked at him and and I said, well, yeah, of course, because we're fucking drunks and junkies, man.
00:46:03.07
Mike
We're, you know, we're liars and cheats and thieves and know and we're not doing any of that stuff anymore.
00:46:03.54
Bill
Right.
00:46:09.35
Mike
And, you know, deep down, I'm an alcoholic. I'm ah i'm a fucking junkie. I'm a liar, cheat, and a thief. And just because I'm not doing those things anymore doesn't mean all that changed.
00:46:22.82
Mike
um It's still all in there.
00:46:23.51
Bill
Right.
00:46:25.14
Mike
So, yes, I understand how you're feeling. Yes, you know, I feel I'm faking it. just looked at him. I said, dude, we all feel that way because we're all fucking faking it.
00:46:35.60
Mike
We're not living, you know, I hate that, dude, I've always hated to thine own self be true. Right. I understand the concept. We've talked about it on here. You know, the Shakespeare quote and all that, you know, my, my own self is a fucking piece of shit.
00:46:44.61
Bill
Right.
00:46:49.64
Bill
Right.
00:46:52.15
Bill
here
00:46:52.92
Mike
You know, I choose not to live that way today.
00:46:55.00
Bill
right
00:46:55.32
Mike
i choose to do the next right thing and do things that other people told me is the right thing to do.
00:46:55.93
Bill
right
00:47:00.56
Mike
Um, yeah, right. You know, again, comes down to, I don't run my own life. and I let these principles and shit run like my life. Um, but yes, you know, deep down, I'm a fucking user and a taker and ah a piece of garbage.
00:47:15.88
Mike
Um, But I'm not anymore.
00:47:19.18
Bill
Right. Right.
00:47:19.77
Mike
way in there, yeah, that person's still in there. That's that's my true self, goddammit. I know that. um i just I choose not to let that person run my life anymore.
00:47:30.94
Mike
you know So yeah, in that sense, I understand the imposter thing. Yes, I'm not living my true self. If I was living my true self, I'd be fucking dead.
00:47:42.20
Mike
So, yeah, you know, and it's fine. and And because I'm selfish and self-centered and want to feel good all the time, this is the easier, softer way. This is the the better way. I feel better doing this than being true to myself.
00:47:58.33
Mike
So, yeah, fuck it.
00:48:00.54
Bill
yeah Yeah. You know, and that's a good point. I thought as you were talking about that, I thought about, you know, every once in a while when there's been, you know, something with, you know, something with my kids in a real positive way or my grandkids, whatever the case is, when there's been something like really um heartfelt that that's happened to me in my life.
00:48:11.03
Mike
Right. this Yeah.
00:48:16.58
Bill
And then I'm like, what the fuck have I done to deserve that?
00:48:17.11
Mike
Right.
00:48:19.18
Bill
You know, and I know what I've done, but.
00:48:19.37
Mike
Mm.
00:48:22.07
Bill
All these things are so fucking simple when you think about it.
00:48:22.13
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:48:25.55
Bill
But to your to your point, everything we talk about, I'm the guy, and I think you are too.
00:48:25.63
Mike
Yeah.
00:48:30.82
Bill
Both of us are on a down escalator.
00:48:31.06
Mike
Mm.
00:48:33.10
Bill
We got to keep walking up because our way of living is to stop and go backwards, you know?
00:48:34.26
Mike
Yeah.
00:48:38.48
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:48:39.38
Bill
That's who we are. Same thing we've talked about that, you know, I'm, I feel like I'm always, my mind is always, you know, in, in a state of, and I, again, I used the word depression.
00:48:40.46
Mike
Yep.
00:48:48.28
Bill
It's not in the way that it is.
00:48:48.76
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:48:49.28
Bill
My, so my mind is always, or my, my attitude is always down and I've got to work to keep it up.
00:48:49.56
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yes.
00:48:55.26
Bill
You know, I'll be for no, for no reason in the world, you know, I'll just, I'll get fucking mad.
00:48:55.56
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:49:00.10
Bill
It's i'm like, God damn, this fucking the weird headset, the headset I'm wearing, whatever the case is, this shirt bugging fuck out of me.
00:49:01.27
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:49:04.09
Mike
Right.
00:49:05.50
Bill
What the fuck?
00:49:05.83
Mike
Yeah, yeah.
00:49:06.57
Bill
And like, where did that come from?
00:49:08.25
Mike
yeah
00:49:08.37
Bill
Yeah. You know?
00:49:09.14
Mike
Because that's that' because it's our true fucking nature, man.
00:49:11.32
Bill
Yeah, it is.
00:49:11.78
Mike
Right. We're all fucking doomed.
00:49:13.27
Bill
But...
00:49:14.47
Mike
It's all gonna... do Yeah, exactly. Right. That's... Gotta fight against it every fucking day.
00:49:20.63
Bill
Right. But even even taking all of that do into an account, and everything that you said, I agree with 100%. You know, if you, thine old self be true, because you, I'm just going to correct you on one thing.
00:49:30.46
Mike
yeah
00:49:31.04
Bill
You chooseth.
00:49:32.38
Mike
this
00:49:32.44
Bill
That would be the Shakespearean way.
00:49:33.08
Mike
Yes. Right. Yes.
00:49:34.87
Bill
I chooseth.
00:49:36.55
Mike
Shoes have...
00:49:38.39
Bill
I can't, if I could say it.
00:49:39.36
Mike
Suffered fucktash.
00:49:41.02
Bill
I chew this this way. Okay. But, but, okay.
00:49:44.53
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:49:45.55
Bill
So great. I get all that, you know, because our, our, our nature is to do this, but still, if somebody came knocking on your door, like, dude, fuck you, man.
00:49:47.39
Mike
Yep. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:49:51.97
Bill
I i did the work. You know, I, agree I agree.
00:49:52.98
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:49:54.45
Bill
agree who I am and where I should be. You know, if I wasn't doing the work, but I'm doing the work.
00:49:56.18
Mike
Yes. Mm-hmm.
00:49:58.33
Bill
So everything that I have, I have worked for.
00:49:58.84
Mike
Yeah. Yep.
00:50:00.25
Bill
So yeah. Ha ha. Fuck you.
00:50:02.20
Mike
Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
00:50:03.90
Bill
Ha ha ha ha. Go fucketh yourself.
00:50:08.31
Mike
Right. Go forth and fucketh thyself.
00:50:11.21
Bill
Ha ha ha ha. To my own self go fucketh.
00:50:15.00
Mike
ah
00:50:16.54
Bill
ah What would do you think on that note? That might be a, that might be a,
00:50:18.25
Mike
Yep, I think so. All right.
00:50:20.47
Bill
fair
00:50:21.09
Mike
Well, we shall go forth and fucketh ourselves. After these words for our sponsor. earth
00:50:36.97
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome back. yeah that might be better That might have been one of the greatest segues and outs and back-ins and whatever that we've ever done.
00:50:43.86
Mike
if e
00:50:48.22
Bill
that's That's saying something because, you know, we're pretty fucking cool.
00:50:49.59
Mike
Yes.
00:50:51.10
Bill
Not really, but I've got other stuff. But you do you want to hear about the thing that i've been that I want to tell you about? the The thing about the podcast stuff that I said I'd save until after the break.
00:51:01.64
Mike
Ah, yeah.
00:51:02.75
Bill
I'm sorry. Let me let me step back.
00:51:04.18
Mike
Do you want to hear about that thing that I want to tell you about?
00:51:04.31
Bill
I apologize.
00:51:07.02
Mike
No, I don't. Keep it to yourself.
00:51:11.30
Bill
Rewind. Earlier in the episode, I said I have something to tell you about a podcast thing, but I'll wait until after the break.
00:51:13.46
Mike
Yes. Uh-huh. Okay.
00:51:16.46
Bill
Blah, blah, blah. We'll keep people through the ah end of the air second part of the episode.
00:51:18.49
Mike
Sure. Right.
00:51:20.20
Bill
but So some years ago, and I think it was while we were doing... I know i think i yeah I know it was because we had... ze ah I'm sorry. We had Riverside at the time. Oh, by the way, um beginning of June was two years for us on Zencaster.
00:51:33.22
Bill
So we've been using this software now for two years.
00:51:33.56
Mike
All right.
00:51:35.98
Bill
So... Hallelujah. Zencast are so cool.
00:51:38.84
Mike
Yes. Mm-hmm.
00:51:39.54
Bill
They only need the R, not the E. Zencast-er. er
00:51:43.31
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:51:43.86
Bill
yeah
00:51:44.43
Mike
Yep. Yeah.
00:51:44.92
Bill
Which again, where we'll say it again. The only time there's been two software ah malfunctions. One was last December. One was about six, eight months prior to that. Not a big deal. It just, we couldn't process the episode that day.
00:51:55.80
Mike
yeah
00:51:56.08
Bill
The worst thing that happened was we had to double up on an episode the next week, but it is what it is. It's technology. You know, the shit happens. But other than that, those are the two glitches we've had in in two years and it's been, they've been wonderful.
00:52:05.56
Mike
yeah
00:52:07.78
Bill
So, um, yeah,
00:52:07.96
Mike
As opposed to that other thing where we were glitching on a fucking yeah goddamn minutely basis.
00:52:15.10
Bill
Yeah, I was we're yeah. Were we telling Anthony that last week? Yeah, because we used to have to cut. That was one of the other things since we were cutting the episode, we used to just record happen that started a goddamn session because we had to.
00:52:20.16
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:52:24.79
Mike
Right.
00:52:25.89
Bill
So but yeah, that was Riverside.
00:52:26.31
Mike
Yep.
00:52:27.93
Bill
So a couple years ago um or a few years ago, probably now. um We were talking about now actually joking about a couple of things, but um our episode four, which is our first 30 days, has always gotten a lot of ah lot of play.
00:52:38.92
Mike
Hmm.
00:52:40.74
Bill
It's still in our top 10. I listened to it, I think, within the last year.
00:52:42.32
Mike
Hmm.
00:52:44.36
Bill
And it is I mean, the audio is a little fucked up, but it's a it's a good episode. And I'm saying that from the standpoint that it has a lot of good stories that are, that are raw and real and about us, you know, in the really early days and they're, they're good stories.
00:52:48.32
Mike
Oh God.
00:52:55.02
Mike
Yeah.
00:52:57.64
Bill
So, I mean, if you listen back or, or whatever, or what I was going to, what we were talking about at that point was, wouldn't it be cool to be able to pull some of those stories out and put them into like a, like a coffee table book or something like that.
00:52:58.50
Mike
Hmm.
00:53:07.46
Mike
Hmm.
00:53:10.50
Bill
do you remember that?
00:53:10.49
Mike
Yeah.
00:53:11.10
Bill
Remember that conversation? Yeah.
00:53:12.09
Mike
Yeah.
00:53:13.05
Bill
Okay. So at the time I tried and what a bit really what I had to do was, I mean, I had I couldn't go back to like episode four. I could only go back to test it out on our episodes in Riverside at that point, which I think were somewhere in the mid twenties forward.
00:53:28.93
Bill
But if it was older than a certain point, you had to actually basically retrieve the transcript. Okay.
00:53:35.17
Mike
Okay.
00:53:35.61
Bill
Which could take up to, you know, 24 hours. It was a pain in the ass. And I'm just like, I tried it for a couple of them.
00:53:39.19
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:53:41.21
Bill
Like, this is too much fucking work. You know, so whatever, whatever reason, it this this shit kind of crossed my mind the other day.
00:53:42.78
Mike
Yeah.
00:53:47.42
Bill
I'm like, I wonder if there's any way now, you know, with AI and stuff like that, that I could do something like that.
00:53:49.60
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right?
00:53:52.25
Bill
So long story short, this, this was a, um, a tangled web, a fucking rabbit hole.
00:53:57.89
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:53:58.09
Bill
it was, it was a crazy mess to figure out how to get this.
00:53:58.43
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:54:01.65
Bill
you wouldn't think. So I went to chat GPT, which I use a lot. And I'm like, can I do this?
00:54:05.53
Mike
<unk>
00:54:07.01
Bill
Yeah. Just, you know, give me, give me the episode and I'll listen to it and I can, I can do this. I'm like, that is fucking cool. You know? So I know that AI can listen to it, but the problem was, first of all, trying to figure out how do I download this episode?
00:54:13.21
Mike
Right?
00:54:19.49
Bill
Okay.
00:54:19.80
Mike
Yeah.
00:54:20.89
Bill
Because I wanted the episode downloaded in, in full mode. Oh, that's how it came out. Cause I was trying, I'm having chat GP now or chat GPT and I'll pick episode clips for me rather than doing them randomly.
00:54:31.76
Mike
Yeah.
00:54:32.20
Bill
It's going through and listening to our episodes and based on time or taking our transcripts, I'm sorry, and based on timestamps, grabbing episode clips for us that mean something rather than me doing random. So I've done it over the last couple of weeks.
00:54:42.39
Mike
Okay.
00:54:43.84
Bill
I didn't have a chance to tell you because I wanted to see how it lined up. um It seems to be working, but even if it doesn't, I was going every 15 minutes, random clips.
00:54:46.55
Mike
yeah
00:54:51.88
Bill
Anyhow, it can't be any worse. Okay.
00:54:54.10
Mike
Right.
00:54:54.17
Bill
But I might, I might get more focused clips and things that matter. Okay. Okay.
00:54:57.50
Mike
oh
00:54:58.26
Bill
So then I'm like, I wonder if old episodes, blah, blah, blah. So I get into this whole thing and finally figure out how I can download the episodes below, do this and that doesn't work. Do this and do that because I needed the full episode.
00:55:08.70
Mike
Sure.
00:55:09.46
Bill
So I got that and then like, no, I can't chat GPT. that I can't really read those. I can't grab this. I need timestamps to be able to do this the right way. And i'm like, well, fuck. They're like, oh, just give me a transcript. I'm like, well, there's no transcript on episode four.
00:55:21.43
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:55:22.20
Bill
We didn't get transcripts until I think the first year into Riverside, you know?
00:55:26.04
Mike
Okay.
00:55:26.50
Bill
So I'm like, would like episode, I don't know, which would be episode maybe 40, you know?
00:55:31.67
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:55:32.54
Bill
Episode four doesn't have anything. It a fucking phone, you know?
00:55:35.00
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:55:36.60
Bill
So all said and done, here's how you do it, boys and girls. And if if if you ever want to get a podcast episode or ah ah a download audio, this, I mean, it's 100% fucking helpful and I had no idea. do you go into a media player, like we have a media player on our website.
00:55:51.57
Mike
Sure.
00:55:51.99
Bill
So if you go to episode four on our website, you'll see a thing with play, pause, forward, that sort of thing. that That's a media player.
00:55:56.95
Mike
Right.
00:55:57.91
Bill
If you go to the play button and either right click or like a Chromebook, for instance, do the double click type of thing with both fingers,
00:55:57.93
Mike
Yeah.
00:56:04.76
Mike
Yeah. Uh-huh.
00:56:05.21
Bill
You get a pop-up window. Okay. It says examine episode or not examine episode, examine source or something like that. And you click on that and that opens up this code window.
00:56:15.70
Bill
And then what you're looking for, and I figured out how to do it. You hit control F, not that it really matters. You can look all this up on on the internet.
00:56:20.63
Mike
Yeah.
00:56:22.02
Bill
Okay. On how to do it. But you look for the thing that ends in MP3. You copy that, throw it into a web browser and there's your episode. Okay. It comes out and it it basically separates the media player, gives it to me on a webpage and I can download the episode.
00:56:36.63
Bill
Okay. So then I'm like, well, here's your episode chat GPT. Listen to it. Well, I can't do anything with this. I'm like, well, fuck you then. So then I'm like, oh, just give me the transcript.
00:56:43.41
Mike
yeah
00:56:45.13
Bill
So I don't have the transcript. So I'm now I'm in another rabbit hole in the web and all this different shit. So finally, you know what I did? I went to, speaking of our friend Zencaster, I went to Zencaster.
00:56:55.38
Mike
Yes. Uh-huh.
00:56:57.72
Bill
I uploaded the episode. okay and then it automatically processes it like a normal episode it gives me a transcript and it doesn't cost us any credits
00:57:04.28
Mike
Right. ah Ah. Right. Oh, cool.
00:57:11.83
Bill
Yeah, so it doesn't, and I'll say quote unquote, charge us. So for everyone out there, not that it really matters, but we pay 20 bucks a month, but they give us a certain number of credits that we could use.
00:57:14.33
Mike
Right.
00:57:19.77
Mike
Right.
00:57:20.37
Bill
And we use, you know, probably one and a half to two credits for every episode. And we got plenty, we got, a you know, an overage of credits. It's not a problem. But if I were doing this with a lot of episodes, trying to get these transcripts, I would eat up credits.
00:57:32.92
Bill
This could end up being very costly is my point. You know, but it turns out doesn't charge us anything for doing it.
00:57:35.30
Mike
Sure.
00:57:38.24
Bill
So then you load the transcript up and now chat GPT can read our entire episode and it can pull out stories that have meaning. Okay. And it can cut out all the, all the babble that we have.
00:57:50.89
Bill
Now we're fun.
00:57:51.32
Mike
Right. Right.
00:57:52.28
Bill
okay we're great to listen to but could you imagine trying to put everything like oh huh ah
00:57:54.49
Mike
ah
00:57:58.00
Bill
ha ha yes go fuck yourself and now on to the story you know so it takes out all of that and it isolates the stories like when we get like episode four i had to go through episode four and it got i think six chapters of stuff out of out of episode four okay um when when you and i both got there that story you remember that right you told yours and i told mine And that's the way I had to put it in the story form.
00:57:58.33
Mike
right
00:58:01.14
Mike
Yes.
00:58:07.85
Mike
Mm. Mm-hmm.
00:58:13.93
Mike
Wow.
00:58:20.72
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:58:24.30
Bill
And that's a shared, that's a shared chapter, for instance, your first. And then me, um even though you got there after me, it's in chronological order. It makes more sense because there's something that I say in my story that references yours, blah, blah, blah.
00:58:37.94
Bill
But then it talks about when you decided how to deal with the God thing.
00:58:38.20
Mike
Okay.
00:58:42.10
Bill
Okay.
00:58:42.17
Mike
Right.
00:58:42.70
Bill
It talks about the story I had with my, with my daughter that you, that you asked me about in one of the episodes that might've been episode five. um The story of me sitting behind the Keating Center with my son telling him why I was there.
00:58:54.60
Bill
What was the other one?
00:58:54.87
Mike
Right.
00:58:57.07
Bill
Oh, you, the phone, the thousand pound phone, that one I just pulled out of episode seven.
00:59:00.12
Mike
Yeah.
00:59:01.83
Bill
You know, so I got all these different things and it isolates obviously between you and i right?
00:59:02.21
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:59:06.87
Bill
So here's the amazing part. So a couple of things is that, and I'll tell you what, AI, and I get it. Everyone that's listening, if you're, if you're shy or fucking worried about AI, I'll tell you what, I, I'm cautious too, but I'm also fucking amazed.
00:59:16.59
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:59:19.39
Mike
Sure.
00:59:21.15
Bill
Okay. So all of these episodes at that time ran anywhere between 53 to 57 minutes.
00:59:21.75
Mike
Yeah.
00:59:28.59
Bill
We were usually under an hour at that point.
00:59:29.01
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:59:30.71
Bill
And for whatever reason, we did that on purpose.
00:59:30.90
Mike
Right.
00:59:32.79
Bill
We didn't go over that hour. And I don't remember why, but we just didn't.
00:59:34.24
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:59:36.15
Bill
Um, but still it's 50, you know, whatever, 50 some minutes of, um, of words, you know, of, of this shit that we're, that we're doing.
00:59:36.22
Mike
Right.
00:59:43.70
Mike
Sure. Right.
00:59:46.20
Bill
And we didn't do anything different as far as how we told stories back then. It might've been worse.
00:59:49.04
Mike
Mm-mm. Sure. I'm sure it was.
00:59:52.47
Bill
Um, so once I get the transcript, then i really pay attention to it. I just take the file and I upload it. And i I swear to God, Mike, I'm not, I'm not shitting you. So in our worth of hours worth of content in a transcript, I load it up.
01:00:04.24
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
01:00:05.10
Bill
I'm like, here's episode four. And then it comes back within, within two seconds. It's spitting out information in this, in this chat box, three seconds, five at the most it's, it's finished.
01:00:17.66
Bill
And it's giving it's it's not only listen to, well, listen to analyze the episode, found the clips, but it gives me a list of all the clips that I think would be, you know, poignant things.
01:00:18.27
Mike
Huh. Mm-hmm.
01:00:27.50
Bill
And I'll, I'll ask a couple of things that it'll rank on based on how it thinks it's going to pull people in what order it should be in. I'm like, fuck me, you know, and literally all I have to do.
01:00:34.46
Mike
Wow.
01:00:36.42
Bill
So loading the episode in the Zencaster takes the longest amount of time, but it doesn't matter.
01:00:40.30
Mike
Yeah.
01:00:40.93
Bill
I can work and I can have my Chromebook sitting over here loading up the episode. i don't care, you know, and then I downloaded and then I throw it up in the chat.
01:00:44.47
Mike
Right.
01:00:47.08
Bill
CPT, it does it. And then in between my things, it's like I'm texting somebody is basically as I'm doing this, it's not a big deal. It's not, it's, it's, it's a lot of time it's taking to, for this sort of thing, type of back and forth.
01:00:57.90
Bill
But the information that it's giving me is fucking amazing.
01:00:58.10
Mike
Right.
01:01:01.54
Bill
Between episode four, five, six, and seven, we have 17 chapters so far.
01:01:06.35
Mike
Mm-hmm Wow Uh-huh
01:01:10.01
Bill
Okay. And on Word document size paper, 60 some pages. If you put that into a six by nine book, which is what ideally what they're saying it should be, I'm guessing it's probably 80, 90 pages, something like that.
01:01:26.87
Bill
So um here's the thing. And and i'll I'll, well, actually, you know, let me, let me do this. I asked them like, so what do what do you think would be a good, you know, a good thing to to name the book and what what should the cover, you know, look like type of thing?
01:01:39.26
Mike
Yeah. All
01:01:40.06
Bill
So they gave me a, and I'm going to send this to you because I want you to take a look.
01:01:44.23
Mike
right.
01:01:44.58
Bill
Hang on one second here. but um So it's going through all all this different stuff and and putting it all into place. and And I figured, you know, one one way or the other, one of two things, either this goes nowhere ever or it does.
01:01:56.41
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:01:58.04
Bill
you know and um it's 100 going to be up to you know obviously us whether we do anything with it because um like i mentioned last week i think and i just sent you what they what they had for the cover um but then you'll see the title for the book too of which i thought was kind of interesting Um, but I figured one way or the other, like we were talking about last week, the process so far and pulling these things out of here, um, even if we do nothing, let's say if we only use this for our own enjoyment, you know, like looking back and seeing these stories, the process has been a lot.
01:01:58.82
Mike
Yeah.
01:02:03.82
Mike
Yeah.
01:02:08.97
Mike
Mm hmm.
01:02:24.28
Mike
Yes. Yeah.
01:02:28.65
Bill
It's, it's work, but not a lot in my opinion.
01:02:31.00
Mike
Mm
01:02:31.95
Bill
Um, it's time consuming, but it's not like I'm sitting down for eight hours and doing this. I'm doing, I'm living my life and my work life while I'm doing it, you know?
01:02:37.62
Mike
hmm. Right. Yeah.
01:02:39.10
Bill
um You know, and it's I'm getting all this stuff, but or we we put it out as a book. And then the basically I mean, yeah, people can go back at any point and listen to our episodes. But, you know, it's putting all of these things in story form, which might appeal to people, you know.
01:02:53.78
Mike
Yeah.
01:02:54.62
Bill
So who knows? but Did you just see the cover?
01:02:56.79
Mike
I did. pretty cool looking.
01:02:59.16
Bill
Yeah. And the first story in there is called um the exit or exit sign. Cause you know, the end of my story is me falling asleep, staring at the exit sign.
01:03:06.35
Mike
Right.
01:03:07.28
Bill
So I didn't tell, I didn't tell it to do anything like that, but did you see the name of the book?
01:03:07.48
Mike
Right.
01:03:10.28
Mike
Yeah.
01:03:11.44
Bill
The, what it says?
01:03:13.78
Mike
Stories that changed everything.
01:03:15.48
Bill
Which I think is kind of cool, but again, none of this stuff has to be set in stone.
01:03:18.23
Mike
Yeah.
01:03:20.57
Bill
Now, here's the only other, um I'll call it caveat with with this whole thing.
01:03:21.08
Mike
Yeah.
01:03:26.10
Bill
And I will email you, i can email you, I've got a Word document with all the or all the chapters in it.
01:03:26.44
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
01:03:32.14
Bill
I can email you the whole thing and you can take a look at it, obviously, right now as it is.
01:03:32.32
Mike
Yeah.
01:03:34.84
Mike
Yeah.
01:03:36.30
Bill
And then the way that the chapters are listed, it's going to be the chapter, you know, chapter one, whatever the name of the chapter is. And then if it's Bill and Mike, Mike or Bill, it has our name on there.
01:03:46.89
Bill
So you see whose voice, quote unquote, is supposed to be in, which I think you could figure it out anyhow.
01:03:49.24
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:03:51.45
Bill
She'll obviously know the stories.
01:03:52.89
Mike
Right.
01:03:52.97
Bill
Now, um the two things that ChatGPT has figured out about you and I, um I'm very story-based, a lot of detail, you know, kind of fluffing up my, um' again, I'm a storyteller, which we everyone knows that, right?
01:04:05.17
Mike
Right.
01:04:07.10
Bill
And you are more to the point and um a little bit, you know, didn't say anything.
01:04:07.37
Mike
Yeah.
01:04:12.14
Bill
you You don't get into as many stories. You're more of a ah to the point. There's going to be a lesson. There's going be a reason and some sort of anecdote or lesson at the end of of the story. which I'm like, that's kind of cool.
01:04:21.06
Mike
Alright. Yeah.
01:04:22.42
Bill
That's, I think, it pretty intuitive with you.
01:04:23.08
Mike
Alright.
01:04:24.26
Bill
Now, the problem though, is that it's still, for for me, it probably, i don't it's not listening to us.
01:04:25.98
Mike
Alright.
01:04:32.54
Bill
So how do you know what our voices are? you know So that's number one. But the other thing too, is just from words, I've given them keys and hints about Mike wouldn't say that. It would say these words and that words, and it'll tighten up an episode or tighten up a chapter.
01:04:43.68
Mike
Mhm.
01:04:45.59
Bill
Or I i wouldn't say that word. I would use this one type of thing, you know, where you're going to have take a look at yours.
01:04:49.28
Mike
Mhm.
01:04:51.35
Bill
And I could easily see where you're going like, i I don't sound like that.
01:04:54.71
Mike
Right. Uh-huh.
01:04:55.22
Bill
And I don't sound like some of these things either. i think I could probably live with the way I would sound in here more than maybe you, but I don't know.
01:05:01.54
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:05:03.16
Bill
Because here's the thing. I have a writing style and my writing style has been kind of in a lane, but it's within within a large lane.
01:05:09.20
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:05:11.94
Bill
So I write the same way, but I have differences.
01:05:12.46
Mike
Right.
01:05:14.58
Bill
So my writing style my writing style varies. That's why I'm saying I could live with mine because I've been in different styles of it. I don't know um you know how much you've done of that, where how important that is.
01:05:25.26
Bill
you know If it's getting the point across or whatever, it you can take a look at that. But here's the thing. If, because there was certain things where it would have you like running along saying, you know this is the point, it's not this, and it's not this, and it's not this, and it's not this, and it's not this.
01:05:38.68
Bill
I'm like, take out the last four things. Just have the first point, and then the leading into the second one. That's Mike. The middle shit's not Mike. you know
01:05:46.04
Mike
Right.
01:05:46.81
Bill
He doesn't go, Oh, in this and this and this, that's me.
01:05:49.53
Mike
Yeah.
01:05:50.17
Bill
You know, I'm like, don't, don't do that. That's not him. You know, there's only been a few times that they've, um, you put the profanity in there. You know, one was, um, AA, oh, AA is on the side of your a wing or your fucking plane.
01:05:57.69
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:06:02.39
Bill
You remember that story, you know, with Larry, uh,
01:06:04.87
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:06:05.56
Bill
And then um ah accept the fucking request. That was me telling the story about my daughter.
01:06:09.43
Mike
Yeah. Right.
01:06:10.95
Bill
You said that.
01:06:11.28
Mike
aha
01:06:12.07
Bill
There was one other one, I think, with the F word, probably one of your stories. It's not like laced in profanity, but I don't think it needs to be, you know.
01:06:17.30
Mike
ah right
01:06:18.72
Bill
But one way or the other, I'll email it to you. Take a look. Here's ah one of my point was here's the easy part is If there's anything in any of these documents, so for instance, you'll be able to, this is a Word document.
01:06:29.48
Bill
You can pull it up on your Chromebook.
01:06:29.94
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:06:31.20
Bill
It'll open up in Google Docs.
01:06:31.56
Mike
Yeah.
01:06:32.68
Bill
And if there's anything that you that you want to change or anything like that, there's there's a couple of different ways you can do it.
01:06:36.90
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:06:38.54
Bill
We can figure out the easiest way to do it.
01:06:39.64
Mike
Yeah. Right.
01:06:40.54
Bill
But all we have to do is these versions right now are considered to be final versions only in the sense of they're they're in a manuscript form now, like in a one document.
01:06:51.42
Bill
So we can do whatever we want with them.
01:06:51.71
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:06:54.09
Mike
Right.
01:06:54.52
Bill
And all that I would have to do at any point, if there were a ton of changes, I could throw it back in the chat GPT. And I'm like, okay, this is the original one. Put this in order now with these changes, you know, and then it'll just go put it in a new version for me.
01:07:02.87
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
01:07:08.70
Bill
You know, so all these things can be updated, but um I don't know. It's just, I'm literally, you figure episode four, five, six, and seven, four episodes so far. And there's 17 chapters.
01:07:19.41
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:07:19.58
Bill
You know, and there's still like two stories that they're saying we could pull out of this other episode.
01:07:20.43
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:07:24.42
Bill
So theoretically, it could be, you know, like 19 chapters out of, you know, four episodes. It's and I'm like, we talk that much. But they're they're not necessarily long stories.
01:07:36.76
Bill
There have been a couple of them where they're like, this is kind of short. I'm like, it doesn't matter. This makes a point. you know It's short. It's sweet. It's to the point. This is what we want to, what we're talking about. And the whole spite thing is going to come up.
01:07:47.80
Bill
That story is going to come up at some point.
01:07:48.54
Mike
Sure.
01:07:49.60
Bill
um you know A lot of these stories that we that we talk about, they're the backbone of what we do. um you know are They're going to come up. This is just, again, it's episode seven. I mean, you know.
01:08:01.46
Bill
So I don't know. It just, it's a, it was, it was interesting to me and I'm like, fuck, it's, it's not hard to do it now. And here's the only other quite the other question I asked that I didn't ask it in chat, in chat GPT.
01:08:07.22
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:08:10.04
Mike
Yeah.
01:08:11.62
Bill
I asked it outside of it in Gemini, which is Google's version. I said, okay, here's the deal. If I, if I want to develop a book and and I'm using AI to to develop the book, what are the rules on that?
01:08:22.52
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:08:25.44
Bill
What's the, what are the pros and cons?
01:08:27.99
Mike
Right.
01:08:28.71
Bill
Basically pros, obviously it's quick, it's easy, blah, blah, blah.
01:08:30.74
Mike
Yeah.
01:08:31.11
Bill
But from a copyright standpoint, if if a um a work, and that like a book or movie or song or anything like that, is 100% created by AI, it is not subject to copyright rules.
01:08:38.44
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:08:42.64
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:08:45.29
Bill
Okay?
01:08:45.38
Mike
Mm.
01:08:46.14
Bill
so um it's not protected but here's the key every one of these stories are ours so the story the story is ours but ai is the one putting it together and then i asked in chat gpt i'm like here's my question i asked that way and they said well you can look at it two ways so these are all your stories that's number one i'm taking it and i'm adding body to it meaning the chat gpt is But you're telling me what to change and that sort of thing.
01:08:48.34
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm. Yeah, right. Mm-hmm.
01:09:05.17
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:09:12.28
Bill
So your human input is even adding more to it. But all said and done, they said in most cases, they said if you use a if you self-publish something like this, you don't really have to worry about it.
01:09:15.02
Mike
Right.
01:09:21.66
Bill
You should disclose it anyhow, maybe.
01:09:22.04
Mike
Right.
01:09:23.82
Bill
But if you use a publisher, then you should disclose how you did it. They'd probably look at this as like as if you used an editor or worst case, a ghostwriter, you know, which is just like hiring somebody to write your story.
01:09:30.95
Mike
isn't it Right.
01:09:35.29
Bill
Yeah.
01:09:35.48
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:09:36.09
Bill
You know, so all the all the ideas are still, you know, I'll use this term loosely, our intellectual property, which I've known that term for years just with all the writing that I've done over the years.
01:09:43.09
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:09:47.79
Mike
Right.
01:09:47.93
Bill
You know, so I've never even though you you can put a copyright symbol on this and that, the blah, blah, blah.
01:09:52.23
Mike
Yeah.
01:09:52.81
Bill
If anything, we're what we're putting into these microphones right now is ours.
01:09:53.01
Mike
Right.
01:09:57.32
Bill
It's copyright protected because this is our property.
01:09:57.72
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
01:09:59.58
Bill
Um, any articles that we've written or I've written or whatever over the years, that's my property.
01:09:59.88
Mike
Right.
01:10:04.54
Bill
Um, you know, nobody can take it, even though if I don't, I don't have register it anywhere.
01:10:04.82
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:10:08.38
Bill
It's protected based on general copyright rules.
01:10:10.40
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:10:11.06
Bill
Um, but we just need to make sure we have to have, but we're at the, in the end, we're going to have hands on and reviewing and, um, you know, changing and that sort of thing.
01:10:19.03
Mike
yeah of course right
01:10:19.36
Bill
You'll, you'll see what I mean. Once you, once you read these, these chapters, I mean, there, there's some, I mean, obviously it's, it's adding a story to it, but it's, it's our story, you know?
01:10:27.31
Mike
yeah exactly yeah that's pretty fucking cool man now I'm just waiting for it to turn me into a racist oh okay well it you better get busy
01:10:28.86
Bill
So.
01:10:31.83
Bill
um ah
01:10:36.28
Bill
if It has not.
01:10:41.56
Mike
I thought that's what AI did. Eventually, you know, let let let it run long enough and it starts pumping out racist stuff, right?
01:10:47.89
Bill
is was that Was that an article recently? or
01:10:50.74
Mike
Oh, yeah no that's been for a long time. Yeah, you let let AI run long enough and it'll start doing racist shit.
01:10:57.78
Bill
Oh, you know what?
01:10:57.74
Mike
Yep.
01:10:58.42
Bill
You know what that was? That was um Elon Musk was when he was developing that.
01:10:59.24
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
01:11:02.30
Mike
things
01:11:03.23
Bill
Yeah, it that was. Yeah. What was that? Six, six, seven months ago.
01:11:06.65
Mike
yeah
01:11:07.26
Bill
It was something like that. Yeah. It it actually yeah it turned out to do forget what it was doing. But, yeah, it took something. And then it was, yeah, telling kids to do certain things and whatever and blah, blah, blah.
01:11:15.96
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah, exactly.
01:11:17.06
Bill
Yeah. Yeah.
01:11:17.68
Mike
Yeah.
01:11:18.17
Mike
Yet. Right. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
01:11:19.83
Bill
Yeah, i haven't I haven't had that problem yet. I'll tell you, this has been, it I'm, right.
01:11:22.68
Mike
yet he
01:11:24.31
Bill
Well, I mean, well, here's here's the way here's the way that I that i look at at this technology so far. And, you know, we, I think our generation, the Gen X generation and in our kids and stuff too, but you figure that the the technology and technological advances that we've lived through, you know, ah since the late sixties until now, um, there's been a lot, you know, I mean, just, just things like, I mean, you know, I mean, something as simple as the, the microwave, you know, um, you know, to obviously the, you know, ah just a computer itself, that's not the size of a room, you know, to a, to a personal computer, to the internet, to, you know, cell phones and,
01:11:43.35
Mike
yeah oh yeah
01:11:47.74
Mike
is
01:11:51.89
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
01:11:56.54
Mike
This phone in my hand, right?
01:11:57.97
Bill
Yeah, to these smartphones. I mean, we've we've grown up with all of these things, you know, and every time one of these things come out, there's this same discussion. Now, AI is, I don't understand. And I mean, seriously, it just, there's no way for me to, if somebody, if I didn't see that that there was, I mean, how many page document of, again, transcripts, don't know how long these transcripts are.
01:12:21.72
Bill
If I didn't sit here and watch what it did, i wouldn't believe it, you know, because it just it's beyond whatever this mind of mine can.
01:12:25.41
Mike
Right.
01:12:29.84
Bill
I can't comprehend it.
01:12:29.85
Mike
Yeah. Uh-huh.
01:12:31.20
Bill
I don't understand.
01:12:32.41
Mike
ah
01:12:32.64
Bill
It's one thing to to read it, but to analyze it and put it in an order and then make a suggestion in in a matter of I mean, we're talking 10 or 15 seconds, you know.
01:12:41.75
Mike
ah here
01:12:43.06
Bill
It's, it's fucking mind blowing. And then I respond and it's like the minute I, I respond, it's got an answer to me in like three seconds.
01:12:51.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:12:51.60
Bill
I'm like, how do you, how do you do that? You know? Um, But, you know, the the thing of it is, I don't know. I mean, it's so far and in one where it's just like anything else. I had no idea. I'm cautious of it. But um watching how it's, you know, the same thing as, ah again, the Internet and everything else that we've come across and these fucking smartphones. You remember they were talking about this on a podcast I was listening to, probably what Joe Rogan You know, they're like, do you remember when cell phones first came out and we were like joking, like, God, wouldn't this be fucked up if our phones were actually listening to us?
01:13:23.10
Bill
And now I was like, well, of course, it's fucking listening to us.
01:13:25.30
Mike
All right, of course.
01:13:25.66
Bill
You know, and we all know nobody fucking cares anymore.
01:13:27.26
Mike
Yeah.
01:13:29.38
Bill
it's just really, you know, you don't care that this thing is listening to you.
01:13:32.82
Mike
this
01:13:33.53
Bill
you know but um yeah no it hasn't uh it has made you racist it hasn't made you do anything it's made all it's it's actually made us uh i i'm blown away it's made us actually sound pretty fucking good when it comes down to it you know and um but i will i'll i'll email it to you and then um however you want to go through this stuff you know um if you want to you know spend time and you know kind of walk through it together whatever you want to do um I want you to take a look at it.
01:13:37.88
Mike
All right. Fine.
01:13:41.57
Mike
All right. Yeah.
01:13:44.60
Mike
m right
01:13:48.41
Mike
yeah
01:13:54.92
Mike
Yeah.
01:13:56.54
Bill
It it is. It's probably, I don't know, 60 some pages at this point, but um you know you'll you'll get the gist.
01:14:00.54
Mike
Go.
01:14:02.42
Bill
And the way the way that it's written right now, it's written in, because it was done, you know it's done on my phone.
01:14:02.58
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:14:07.42
Bill
So it's it looks more like almost, I don't want to say bullet point-ish, but it kind of does.
01:14:08.33
Mike
Hmm.
01:14:12.30
Bill
In some cases, they're more like these one-liner things.
01:14:12.59
Mike
Hmm.
01:14:14.82
Bill
i'm like, that could be in a paragraph, whatever. But I think um I didn't worry about, because they you know i'm like I said, what about formatting? I think at one point, to Like, don't worry about formatting, get to get the information down. We can format at the end type of thing.
01:14:27.13
Bill
You know, I'm like okay. So it may it may not look the way that it would in an end result. That can be dealt with. But when I first started looking, I'm like, that's, I'm worrying about something that doesn't matter. The formatting doesn't matter. So anyhow.
01:14:39.22
Mike
Cool.
01:14:40.02
Bill
All right. So that's our that's our new thing. But I'll get i'll get that over to you when when we're done here.
01:14:44.69
Mike
Yeah.
01:14:45.30
Bill
All right. So um I, I think, um and I want to, I want to tell you this story because I think I might've, I don't know.
01:14:48.85
Mike
Yes.
01:14:52.70
Bill
I, I'm going to ask you to to listen to my story and then tell me if I was being a dick because I wasn't trying to be. Okay. And I know, i know you're going the first guy that's always going to, you're going to shoot me straight, you know?
01:15:01.77
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:15:03.29
Bill
So um hang on one second. Where did I put that? I, Oh yeah, i did hit put them in text messages. Okay, good, good, good. I just wanted to make sure because I i thought I copied the clips. So um there's a podcast and I was talking about this podcast at one time.
01:15:16.97
Bill
I am not going to name them because it's not it's not fair. But I think that one of two things, either I pissed off one of the hosts or I or i hurt their i hurt their feelings and I didn't mean to.
01:15:23.90
Mike
Mm. Mm.
01:15:26.37
Bill
But i'm again, we're going to get your opinion, okay?
01:15:30.46
Mike
Yeah, all right.
01:15:32.25
Bill
So I'm listening to this, to this, uh, and it's one of the video, it's one of the podcasts does video. And I think they, I think it's done badly, but I think that about everyone. So it has nothing to do with anything else, but, um, this clip and I'm reading the, you know, they've got like captions.
01:15:39.21
Mike
Sure. Mm-hmm.
01:15:44.18
Bill
So I'm reading it it's talking about, you know, certain number of people and statistics and this is all it stays sober. And I'm like, well, now got to listen to this fucking thing. You know, so you know how we are with our statistics.
01:15:51.23
Mike
Ah. Right.
01:15:53.27
Bill
Um, So um the podcast clip is talking about starting out with 28 million people that could end up having issues with alcohol or drugs.
01:16:03.45
Bill
OK, whatever it is.
01:16:03.80
Mike
Okay.
01:16:04.44
Bill
you know So let's say there's 28 million people out there that have substance or or some sort of issue. Out of that, there's a certain percentage of people that are going to try to stop.
01:16:09.64
Mike
Sure.
01:16:12.56
Bill
Not everyone out of the 28 million is.
01:16:14.46
Mike
Right.
01:16:14.68
Bill
But this this clip is whittling it down. These statistics sound the people who achieve long term sobriety, which is greater than five years. So it goes down from the 28 million to this, to that, to blah, blah, blah, to one year, to that up to five.
01:16:22.62
Mike
Uh huh.
01:16:27.58
Bill
So basically saying that it could be eight to 10,000 people that achieve this out of 28 million that start out, you know, so that's the number.
01:16:32.22
Mike
Mm.
01:16:36.30
Mike
Mm.
01:16:36.95
Bill
And it's like this, you know, the statistic of, ooh, this is what it is type of thing. So I made a comment um and I'll tell you what my comment was because again, you know how we feel about, you know, statistics and all that stuff.
01:16:50.23
Bill
So this was my comment. I despise statistics like that. We were given stats like that when we first got sober and we jokingly, and I put that in quotes, turned it into spite.
01:16:57.61
Mike
Right.
01:17:01.14
Bill
We also choose to talk about how people can stay sober, and not how many people don't.
01:17:01.81
Mike
Uh
01:17:05.58
Bill
And I did. I responded under Sober Not Mature. um
01:17:08.75
Mike
huh.
01:17:09.46
Bill
You know, and I said, dubb you know, we we choose to talk about how people can't stay sober, not how many people don't. um You guys have a hell of a following.
01:17:15.27
Mike
Right.
01:17:16.94
Bill
And in my humble opinion, things like this take away from what I see you doing for all those people.
01:17:21.89
Mike
Hmm.
01:17:22.38
Bill
So I'm thinking that's positive, right?
01:17:22.85
Mike
Hmm. Sure.
01:17:24.70
Bill
Um, oh yeah, I am 16 plus years sober. First run at it. Never had to get sober before. No relapses yet. And live a well-balanced sober life. In other words, it's about doing the work and not about the statistics.
01:17:37.46
Bill
Okay.
01:17:37.86
Mike
Mm hmm.
01:17:38.18
Bill
So do you think that was at all dickish?
01:17:41.14
Mike
Now.
01:17:42.30
Bill
Okay.
01:17:43.32
Mike
Well, I mean, i mean ah you know, it as much as, yes, we're dicks, but, you know, and no, yeah, yeah ah you know, and yes, it can be construed as being a dick when you're pointing out the truth to people that don't want to fucking hear the absolute truth, you know.
01:17:43.38
Bill
I mean, sir. Okay.
01:17:53.43
Bill
yeah
01:18:01.77
Mike
But other than
01:18:02.17
Bill
yeah
01:18:05.82
Bill
Oh, wait, see that say that again. i went For the people in the back, and there was something about this saying we're not dicks, so we're we're being dicks as much as what?
01:18:11.72
Mike
no. Well, No, we are dicks. And as much as pointing out the truth to people that don't want to really hear the truth, they want to hear their own truth, not the truth.
01:18:16.10
Bill
Ha, ha, ha. Ha, ha, ha. Ha, ha, ha.
01:18:22.47
Mike
Yes, that's dickish. But other than that, no, you weren't being a dick at all.
01:18:24.52
Bill
Ha, ha, ha.
01:18:27.87
Mike
Uh-huh. Sure. The latter. Well, both.
01:18:30.00
Bill
Oh, it's been a while. Thank you. My fucking eyes are watering now.
01:18:32.65
Mike
But yeah.
01:18:34.07
Bill
Okay. So um let's go back to his comment. This is where I, again, I think I pissed him off or I hurt his feelings.
01:18:36.53
Mike
aha sure i update the latter it will both but yeah
01:18:39.77
Bill
So, so, so he says that we don't control the truth and despite the statistics and how we treat them.
01:18:45.90
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:18:47.97
Bill
And he puts the word jokingly turned into spite that, that didn't, that sentence I had to read it like seven times because it didn't read right. It said, we don't choose or control the, control the truth.
01:18:54.68
Mike
Yeah.
01:18:58.16
Bill
And despite how, or despite the statistics and how we treat them jokingly turned into spite, I don't know what that was, but, um,
01:18:58.58
Mike
Yeah.
01:19:05.27
Mike
Well, he's kind of like throwing your quote back at you, but yeah, okay.
01:19:09.08
Bill
Right, but then it says then it says it is the reality, okay?
01:19:12.02
Mike
Okay.
01:19:12.44
Bill
um
01:19:12.70
Mike
Okay.
01:19:13.42
Bill
It's also why we do what we do. It's a clip from the recent episode where we talk about stigma, and it's clear you see it too, which we do. um
01:19:20.79
Mike
Yeah.
01:19:21.88
Bill
might be good to ah Might be a good idea to check out the whole thing, and I'm not going to listen our fucking episode. I have no desire to listen.
01:19:28.18
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:19:29.32
Bill
i I don't care about stigma. I understand it. We know it's there, but I'm not going to listen to a podcast about stigma.
01:19:31.77
Mike
Sure. Right.
01:19:34.40
Bill
No offense to them. I mean, really, they're they're out there doing things for people.
01:19:36.02
Mike
Yeah.
01:19:37.32
Bill
So so I wrote back and I said, I said, I'm not condemning you for for how you handle your episodes.
01:19:37.40
Mike
Sure.
01:19:43.20
Bill
I was just providing my opinion for what it's worth.
01:19:43.48
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah.
01:19:46.52
Bill
I'm not blind. And yes, I know the statistics are there and I know there's still a stigma in in parentheses.
01:19:49.97
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:19:52.80
Bill
I put thankfully less than what it used to be. But we just choose not to promote them.
01:19:54.93
Mike
Yeah.
01:19:57.46
Mike
Yeah.
01:19:58.01
Bill
And I said, this is, this was where I tried to pull them, pull them back in a little bit.
01:19:58.01
Mike
Yeah.
01:20:01.31
Bill
Okay.
01:20:01.70
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:20:02.70
Bill
Lastly, I see what you guys do on a regular basis, which is true. And I mean that from my heart, I didn't say that, but I mean, I mean that.
01:20:07.56
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah, right.
01:20:09.14
Bill
um And you're doing good things out there just because we disagree. Doesn't mean we're not all in this together.
01:20:16.06
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
01:20:16.66
Bill
I left it at that. And all he did, he just liked the comment and went on with his life.
01:20:19.48
Mike
Okay.
01:20:20.22
Bill
Okay. So didn't, didn't respond.
01:20:20.62
Mike
Okay. Yep.
01:20:21.94
Bill
So, so outside of the fact that, yeah, in general, we're dicks.
01:20:22.52
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:20:26.45
Bill
I wasn't being too dickish.
01:20:26.97
Mike
Yeah.
01:20:27.65
Bill
Okay.
01:20:27.80
Mike
No, no, not at all. Yeah, exactly. And and I agree with the sentiment totally. Yeah, yeah, there's statistics and blah, blah, blah, blah. blah and But, you know, the one that I choose to care, that I choose to focus on, and I know you do too, is never have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path.
01:20:46.62
Bill
Right, right.
01:20:46.75
Mike
That's the fucking statistic. Yeah, that's the one that I care about. 100% this works if you fucking work it.
01:20:50.10
Bill
Right.
01:20:53.88
Bill
Well, and all I was really doing was, I mean, I provided a little bit of background, you know, joking about the spite thing and this, you know, that and we do, we despise statistics, but saying that, you know, just putting ah ah a note on there that the the point was is that if you do the work, those statistics don't fucking matter, you know?
01:20:58.84
Mike
o Yeah.
01:21:09.85
Mike
Exactly.
01:21:10.57
Bill
And that's why we don't promote them. If anyone's wondering why we don't, when we talk about statistics, and I didn't plan on, you know, in in any episode explaining why we don't talk about statistics.
01:21:20.69
Bill
i can't say the word. Statistics.
01:21:22.78
Mike
I know.
01:21:23.55
Bill
physical Physics.
01:21:23.60
Mike
It's a bitch.
01:21:25.71
Bill
Physics.
01:21:25.78
Mike
Or you go, you come on, man. We're in the Midwest. We can say so statistics.
01:21:29.97
Bill
The statistic. Yeah. Whatever.
01:21:31.77
Mike
Yeah.
01:21:31.89
Bill
Those things, those, those numbers that explain things.
01:21:32.79
Mike
yeah
01:21:34.65
Bill
But the, the thing of it is, and we talk about it enough and maybe we do explain it when we're talking about it. The, the point is, is exactly what Mike said. And that, that's a, that's a note from the big book. You know, it's from how the, the, the chapter, how it works.
01:21:43.86
Mike
Yeah.
01:21:46.16
Bill
Chapter five, read it.
01:21:46.33
Mike
Yeah.
01:21:47.08
Bill
Even if you're not a big book person, it's a fucking good chapter.
01:21:48.69
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:21:49.72
Bill
And it's a goddamn good reading. And it does, you know, rarely, it used to say never in the original version.
01:21:51.37
Mike
Yep.
01:21:54.84
Mike
Right? The original version was never. never And then yeah, they changed it to never. That's the softening from the fucking beginning. Yes, go ahead.
01:22:02.02
Bill
Right. But but think think think about it this way. and And again, anyone that's listening, we've talked about baking a fucking cake and following a goddamn recipe.
01:22:08.80
Mike
Yep.
01:22:10.45
Bill
That comes from our sponsor, Joe.
01:22:10.65
Mike
Yep.
01:22:12.29
Bill
You cannot argue with that point.
01:22:12.37
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:22:14.45
Bill
If you take a box of cake mix and it's the box of anything, any fucking recipe, if you take it and you follow those directions exactly on the package, unless there's something wrong with you where you can't measure something, And I mean, and I get that.
01:22:14.75
Mike
Right.
01:22:16.97
Mike
Yep. Yeah. Right.
01:22:22.03
Mike
Yep.
01:22:26.55
Mike
right
01:22:28.50
Bill
Or there are people that are like, I just can't, I don't know. I can't cook. I can i can't boil fucking water. Okay. Then have somebody else follow the directions.
01:22:35.61
Mike
yeah right yeah
01:22:35.74
Bill
You'll get the point.
01:22:37.19
Mike
constitutionally incapable of cooking yeah
01:22:38.87
Bill
Yeah. And you know what? If it is that way, I'm sure you got a friend, sit there and watch him bait watch him bake a cake.
01:22:44.44
Mike
hands yep yep yep
01:22:44.51
Bill
You know, if you follow the directions to a T, you're going to get a cake that looks pretty goddamn close to what's on the package.
01:22:49.59
Mike
have
01:22:50.43
Bill
And it's going to be edible.
01:22:50.68
Mike
yeah
01:22:52.07
Bill
It's not going to kill you.
01:22:52.06
Mike
yes
01:22:53.27
Bill
Okay.
01:22:53.50
Mike
yep
01:22:54.04
Bill
And you will not become one of those statistics that you ate a bad cake or, you you know, had to don't go do something else.
01:22:57.47
Mike
Yep.
01:22:59.36
Bill
So that was, that was the point.
01:22:59.35
Mike
Yeah.
01:23:01.24
Bill
And that's why we don't believe in these goddamn statistics.
01:23:02.10
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:23:03.92
Bill
That's why we got fucking spiteful.
01:23:04.08
Mike
Yep.
01:23:05.68
Bill
When people said that, you know, only a certain percentage you are going to, are going to make this.
01:23:08.70
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:23:09.20
Bill
Well, fuck you and your point.
01:23:10.24
Mike
Yep.
01:23:11.24
Bill
That's a story that's in in there too already.
01:23:12.82
Mike
Yep.
01:23:13.28
Bill
You know, that you saying that, oh yeah, tell an alcoholic he can't do it. Yeah. Tell me I can't.
01:23:16.63
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, please tell me I can't fucking do it. I'll show you.
01:23:20.95
Bill
Yeah. And then, and then, oh, 90% of all podcast episodes fail. Oh, really?
01:23:24.89
Mike
Right.
01:23:26.33
Bill
Really? Fuck you two times, you know?
01:23:29.08
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah, right. 90% only put out five episodes and then they move on with their lives. Okay.
01:23:35.62
Bill
Right. Yeah.
01:23:35.85
Mike
Right. We're sitting here at episode 225. Fuck you.
01:23:39.92
Bill
Yeah.
01:23:40.47
Mike
Yeah.
01:23:41.20
Bill
Yeah, and four and a half years. And the thing of it is, even if we did it for that, because I remember that conversation like it was fucking yesterday.
01:23:43.01
Mike
Yeah.
01:23:48.38
Bill
Oh, we're hitting a year, goddammit.
01:23:49.94
Mike
oh yeah right right
01:23:50.76
Bill
I'll give a fuck what happens.
01:23:51.99
Mike
yeah
01:23:52.44
Bill
We're getting a goddamn year.
01:23:53.88
Mike
Exactly. you know, 10 months, if we're just fucking whistling into microphones, we're still putting out a fucking episode.
01:23:55.29
Bill
it hey i think you said something a along those same lines at the time, too.
01:24:04.61
Mike
Yep.
01:24:05.41
Bill
Which, you know, that's fine. Yeah, they're going be whistling Dixie out of our fucking assholes.
01:24:09.53
Mike
yep Which is pretty much what we do anyway.
01:24:12.41
Bill
And it's just throwing a couple of words behind it.
01:24:13.11
Mike
easy
01:24:14.85
Bill
But um but yeah, you know what? and And that's the thing. I mean, I when I when I did that and I don't I don't comment on much, you know, but I do. I have even though, you know, I slowly criticize or not slowly.
01:24:28.22
Bill
I quietly criticize these podcasts for doing in these videos, you know. Because I think they, from, from a consumer, from somebody who's consuming their content, it's distracting.
01:24:39.06
Bill
And I think it looks like shit, you know, and from ah a fellow podcaster, I don't understand it.
01:24:41.05
Mike
Right.
01:24:44.96
Bill
We don't understand why somebody would, would put out shit like that, you know? And if, if it turns out we would rather, okay, so let's give this. Somebody said, you need to do a video episode.
01:24:55.52
Bill
It's going to look like fucking garbage every week and it's going affect your audio or you could go away. I think we'd probably go away, you know? rather than put out a shitty product because the the work that we do, which is not a lot, but the work that we put into this to make sure that this audio is as good as it can be with the equipment that we have, um I don't see the point of putting out a shitty product.
01:25:17.19
Bill
but So even taking away that, and i don't I don't, their episodes are not my deal.
01:25:17.85
Mike
Right.
01:25:22.76
Bill
When I listen to it, i kind of laugh and like, Jesus Christ, because again, not a lot of these episodes are not my deal.
01:25:25.44
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:25:28.46
Bill
you know They're just not my deal, Wade.
01:25:28.92
Mike
Right.
01:25:30.74
Bill
Um, but I don't, I have respect for what they're doing because I know that they're hitting an audience that needs to hear this wishy washy, you know, type of stuff.
01:25:30.71
Mike
Right.
01:25:35.78
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:25:41.85
Mike
Sure.
01:25:42.52
Bill
And that's fucking fine because, um,
01:25:45.14
Mike
Frothy emotional appeal.
01:25:47.35
Bill
yeah And you know what? There's a certain portion of people out there that like this fucking garbage that we do. It's a smaller one, but I'll tell you what we got in.
01:25:52.82
Mike
Yep. Right. Yeah, ahha
01:25:55.47
Bill
I did that. Like I did that one, that one meme that says we have a fiercely loyal audience. That's a great way to fucking put it because that's what it is that I, even when we have a down week on an episode, as far as numbers,
01:26:01.59
Mike
yeah absolutely.
01:26:07.94
Bill
We're going to get a certain number of plays. Certain number of people are going to fucking look look at us.
01:26:09.57
Mike
Right.
01:26:11.76
Bill
Certain number of people are going to listen to us.
01:26:11.77
Mike
Yep.
01:26:13.30
Bill
We get a spike. It's, up you know, it it is what it is. Maybe. Who knows? Maybe we'll grow at some point. Maybe we won't, you know. But but this is this is what this is. And in the thing with it is that I like, I don't, fuck it. I love the fact that we are different.
01:26:27.83
Mike
Yep.
01:26:28.41
Bill
I love it. Yeah.
01:26:29.30
Mike
Yeah, exactly. And besides, who do you want to sit down and have a cup of coffee with?
01:26:35.29
Bill
Exactly.
01:26:36.17
Mike
Yep.
01:26:36.44
Bill
Yeah. I, I don't know. And it's just, I, again, I don't think, I don't think we're fucking special. We're just, when it comes down to this thing that we do, it's different than anyone else out there.
01:26:43.05
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:26:45.88
Bill
It just, it just is.
01:26:46.23
Mike
Right.
01:26:47.16
Bill
And we did it by complete fucking accident, which is a fucking miracle, you know, but maybe it isn't, maybe it's not a miracle that it happened accident because that, that's how everything else happens in our lives.
01:26:50.02
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yep. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. exactly
01:26:57.24
Bill
Yeah. ah But again, I wasn't, I really wasn't trying to be a dick to the guy, you know, but, but I was just kind of like, you know, man, and I i don't, I don't comment that much, but I just saw it and I'm like, you know, you know, right.
01:27:03.86
Mike
no
01:27:08.18
Mike
h
01:27:11.42
Mike
Yeah, right. yeah Right. I mean, I don't generally either, but every once in a while, something will just hit me and you go, I have to throw my two cents out there, you know, just, you know, and probably mostly to make myself feel better because that's what all of that fucking shit is.
01:27:21.27
Bill
Right.
01:27:28.95
Bill
right
01:27:29.23
Mike
Uh, you know, I mean, I'm not going to change anybody's mind and I'm not going but you know, if I can, if I can just have them pause for half a second and go, Hmm, that's, that's all I care.
01:27:41.11
Mike
If that's enough for me, you know, I'm not going to change their mind. I'm not going to make them walk a different way. I'm not going to make them look at the world a different way. If I, that half a second, they just go, Hmm, that's enough.
01:27:51.55
Mike
It's enough for me.
01:27:51.86
Bill
Right.
01:27:52.72
Mike
Yup.
01:27:53.05
Bill
Yeah. And you know, the thing that is when I listened to the clip too, and I guess I didn't think about it until just now, um you know, when he said that it was an episode about whatever, I had no idea what the episode was about. I didn't know.
01:28:01.70
Mike
Right.
01:28:02.33
Bill
I i didn't think he would disagree with me. I didn't think it it'd be, I didn't think I'd hurt his feelings.
01:28:04.76
Mike
o
01:28:06.69
Bill
I was just like, you know, this is how I feel, but you know, Hey, do the work whatever.
01:28:06.94
Mike
Sure. Yeah.
01:28:10.32
Bill
Cause I think that worst case scenario, anyone has been sober for a minute, regardless how they do it is going to agree.
01:28:10.65
Mike
is it
01:28:14.01
Mike
Right. m
01:28:16.71
Bill
I don't think that's a, you know, it's not a hot take to be like, Hey, if you do the work, you probably stay sober.
01:28:20.54
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:28:20.68
Bill
Yeah.
01:28:21.35
Mike
Right.
01:28:21.75
Bill
You know, who's going to fucking disagree with that, which he didn't really, but he was leaning on the statistic, you know, getting on, you know, defending his up on that fucking hill with his bag of statistics going, I'm not coming down without a fight.
01:28:22.23
Mike
Uh-huh. yeah right aha
01:28:34.04
Mike
Yeah, exactly. well you know and i And I get that too. you know there's There's the truth and then there's the truth.
01:28:37.43
Bill
Right.
01:28:40.76
Mike
and you know Yeah, exactly.
01:28:41.40
Bill
Right.
01:28:42.76
Mike
It's it's which which part you want to focus on. Yes, statistically, that is the truth. Absolutely. I don't want to focus on that. I want to focus on this part of the truth.
01:28:51.70
Bill
Right.
01:28:54.55
Mike
Yeah.
01:28:54.68
Bill
Right. Yeah.
01:28:55.26
Mike
Yeah.
01:28:56.12
Bill
Well, and we, we talk about all the time, you know, we don't hear your fucking drunkologues. We want to hear about the solution, you know?
01:29:00.44
Mike
Yep.
01:29:01.30
Bill
So it's, it's the same concept, but one other, one other thing actually from sober friends, and here's the funny part. They give me, they give me so many ideas. and you know, they, they have a Matt and Steve usually do. It's probably a, not more than 30, 40 minute episode.
01:29:13.70
Bill
Usually it's just the two of them. But they'll talk about nine times out of ten, just one topic, but every once in a while to bring up you know some other side thing. But um a lot of times it's just a one-line thing, like what Steve said, you know that kind of like, shit, man, that's interesting.
01:29:26.82
Bill
you know So they give me a lot of material. So Sober Friends, Matt and Steve, thank you. You guys you guys fill up fill up our episodes with your with your topic ideas too.
01:29:34.58
Mike
Right.
01:29:34.83
Bill
Yeah.
01:29:35.39
Mike
Right.
01:29:35.80
Bill
So they were talking about um alcoholism as a disease. Okay. So that's, that's kind of like their the topic. And it was a side note thing because Matt had a a clip from Charlie Sheen, which I don't know, some, some podcast that he was on at one point.
01:29:48.30
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:29:48.64
Bill
I don't even know at what point, if this was this, this time of his life or before it might've been before, but then again, I don't know. uh charlie was saying that he didn't agree with the concept the disease concept because then um he felt charlie sheen felt that there was always something that was out to get him and that he had no control over it okay so imagine that the control thing right exactly what i thought so i'm not really exactly sure how to phrase this is my my commentary how to phrase a question on this but um you know kind of to to begin with how either
01:30:08.17
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:30:19.26
Bill
Maybe not even now. How did you feel about the disease concept to begin with? And did you feel either then or ever that there is always something out to get us that we have no control over?
01:30:29.66
Bill
Or, and again, I don't know how to phrase it, but you do you get the point?
01:30:31.47
Mike
Hmm.
01:30:32.18
Bill
Does it make any sense or no?
01:30:32.76
Mike
Right. Um, I mean, yes, it does. and And I understand it. And, um, my answer is yes, as always. Yes.
01:30:43.00
Bill
right
01:30:43.62
Mike
There's something out there that is always trying to get me. um
01:30:46.81
Bill
ha
01:30:48.22
Mike
But you know what? I have a little control over it. I have these tools, these yeah these good people figured out for me um that I have the choice. I do have that control to do these things to keep it at bay.
01:31:00.06
Mike
um
01:31:00.66
Bill
Right.
01:31:00.95
Mike
Yeah, but yeah. and So yes, the answer is yes, both. um Yes, there is something out there that is always out to get me and I have control over that. You know, I know there's a solution.
01:31:09.99
Bill
Right.
01:31:11.44
Mike
i know there are things that I can do to keep it away from me. And um it doesn't end. But it doesn't. The things that I do to keep it away from me doesn't stop it from trying to get me.
01:31:23.58
Mike
I think that's yeah right.
01:31:24.34
Bill
right
01:31:25.38
Mike
Yeah. You know, but but the control I have is I have the choice to do these things or not. That's where the control's at. um Yeah, but as far as, you know, that's first step shit.
01:31:35.91
Mike
But that that thing out to get me, I have, yeah, I do not have control over that.
01:31:36.20
Bill
Right.
01:31:40.63
Mike
It's always going to try to get me. I'm okay with that.
01:31:43.96
Bill
Right.
01:31:44.76
Mike
Yep.
01:31:44.92
Bill
Yeah. and And you know what? I, I don't think I ever, i don't think I ever had a, I'm going to say i never had a problem with the fact that it was considered a disease.
01:31:51.67
Mike
Hmm.
01:31:52.59
Bill
It was actually a, to begin with, it was kind of like a, huh?
01:31:52.82
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
01:31:55.79
Bill
Okay.
01:31:55.90
Mike
Right.
01:31:56.39
Bill
You know, so this is something, but you know, i always remember Marty explaining it like, you know, yeah, so we, we had this disease, but could you imagine if it was this or if it was that, you know, and you know, ah the the joke that I always, you know, say it's like, yeah, all I got to do is go to a couple of meetings, read a couple of books and, you know, be a good person.
01:32:02.94
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:32:05.27
Mike
Right.
01:32:10.42
Mike
Yep. Yep.
01:32:12.44
Bill
And, you know, bli Blah, blah, blah.
01:32:12.79
Mike
Yeah. help Help the next guy. Right.
01:32:16.21
Bill
You know, and I, it's not, it's not fucking cancer. It's not even something as, as easy, quote unquote, and manageable as, you know, fucking diabetes that I was worried about, you know, six months ago, you know, um, it's not even, I mean, okay.
01:32:19.20
Mike
Well.
01:32:22.97
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
01:32:28.09
Bill
So I had the heart thing, you know, so I got to take some fucking medicine, you know, every, every day, you know, again, manageable, but I mean, yeah, I got this, I got this thing out there that can get me that what I had happened six months ago, six, eight months ago, that's fucking worse than this shit that we got, you know?
01:32:31.22
Mike
All right.
01:32:33.91
Mike
hu
01:32:36.42
Mike
Yep.
01:32:41.27
Mike
Sure.
01:32:41.56
Bill
Um, but I don't know.
01:32:42.42
Mike
Is it?
01:32:42.88
Bill
It just, it's, it's, well, okay. It could be, yeah Yes. well one One could be. Yeah, it could be. if i yeah If I don't do anything, if I stop taking my medicine, I'm fucked.
01:32:49.98
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Right. Yeah.
01:32:53.62
Bill
If I stop taking my medicine here, I'm fucked. okay.
01:32:55.56
Mike
Yep. Exactly.
01:32:56.36
Bill
All
01:32:56.72
Mike
it's It's the fucking same. Yes. Yeah. i And I have no problem with that.
01:32:59.50
Bill
right.
01:33:01.72
Bill
Right. Yeah. And I mean, honestly, on on both sides of it, I don't I get up every morning and I get taken. I actually just pulled it out because I get you know this time of night. I take ah you know two pieces of of medicine every every night, you know, and I take the rest in the morning.
01:33:14.80
Bill
it's up and It's five things. You know, it's not a big deal.
01:33:16.32
Mike
Yeah.
01:33:17.04
Bill
You know, but I don't think about this on a daily basis.
01:33:17.14
Mike
Right.
01:33:19.70
Bill
I do when I don't, when I walk, I think about it, you know, just cause I'm like, I'm, I'm doing these things, you know, ah that are good for me.
01:33:22.08
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:33:25.42
Bill
But I mean, you know, my, my heart function went from, you know, 45 to 50% after the procedure, after all said and done up to like 65% output, you know, which is 70% is considered like fucking normal.
01:33:25.40
Mike
Right.
01:33:33.56
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:33:36.96
Bill
Like nothing ever happened.
01:33:37.34
Mike
Right.
01:33:37.84
Bill
And I'm like, how the fuck did I do that?
01:33:38.49
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:33:40.06
Bill
You know, kind of like, how did I do this?
01:33:42.68
Mike
Yeah, exactly. Right.
01:33:44.02
Bill
but I,
01:33:45.07
Mike
How do go from a fucking drunk laying in the gutter to this? Uh-huh.
01:33:49.21
Bill
Yeah. Cause I, I mean, I, I did the work to get, to to get to this point in sobriety and I did the work to get to this point with my, with my, you know, quote unquote heart health, you know?
01:33:54.38
Mike
Yeah.
01:33:56.86
Mike
Yep.
01:33:57.43
Bill
Um, so I don't know. It just, uh, it, it, whatever. Charlie Sheet, I, I listened to his book and I've listened to podcasts and all sorts of things.
01:34:03.16
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:34:04.03
Bill
I, I, I enjoy him and whatever he's doing, he's, he's, he's on a path and, If he doesn't believe in the concept of a disease, I don't give a fuck, you know, but, um, and they, they didn't either.
01:34:04.38
Mike
Mm-hmm. Sure. Yeah.
01:34:10.87
Mike
Yeah, right. Right.
01:34:13.18
Bill
They weren't saying that they cared about it, but they were talking about, you know, the disease part. And I'm like, i don't know that we ever talked about that.
01:34:16.82
Mike
Right.
01:34:18.38
Bill
So, um, yeah, I mean, it, it is what it is kind of is your point.
01:34:18.94
Mike
Yeah.
01:34:21.50
Bill
Right. And I, I agree.
01:34:22.23
Mike
Yeah.
01:34:23.45
Bill
yeah
01:34:23.96
Mike
yes a
01:34:25.94
Bill
All right. Well, I guess, uh, you know, on that note, since, since we've agreed on something for once in 16 and a half years, I guess we, maybe we should wrap this fucking thing up. Huh?
01:34:33.75
Mike
Yeah, I think we should. Plus, the dogs are getting fucking out of control. So, right, they're they're telling us, hey, assholes, it's time to fucking wrap this thing up.
01:34:37.43
Bill
Yeah, which...
01:34:41.11
Mike
And if we can listen to anybody, we can listen to the dogs.
01:34:41.37
Bill
Yeah, can I...
01:34:44.54
Bill
Yeah, exactly. So, okay, your your turn. your turn
01:34:47.05
Mike
All right. Well, thank you, everyone, for listening to yet another episode of Sober Not Mature. As always, be kind to each other, be good to each other, go out and do something nice for somebody else this week, and don't tell anybody you did it.
01:35:01.42
Mike
I'm going to a ball game tomorrow, so fuck all you. Anyway, ah so from the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul, from the beginning of time until the ends of the earth, always and eternally, fuck you.
01:35:18.42
Mike
Now it's time, kids. It's time for you to fuck off. Then keep fucking off. Keep fucking off till you get to a gate with a sign on it saying, you cannot fuck off past here.
01:35:31.13
Mike
Climb over that gate. Dream the impossible dream and keep fucking off forever.
01:35:38.62
Bill
Yes.
01:35:39.54
Mike
Yes.
01:35:39.61
Bill
So is this, this is your first baseball game of the year, right?
01:35:43.41
Mike
Yep.
01:35:43.99
Bill
Cool. That's, that's what it's I thought. couldn't remember, but I, but I thought so. Is it supposed to be nice out hopefully too?
01:35:47.86
Mike
yeah It's supposed to be low 80s, sunny, scoobles fucking back off the IR and it's going to be amazing.
01:35:56.48
Bill
that's cool. Well, good.
01:35:57.26
Mike
Yep.
01:35:57.34
Bill
Okay. I got, I got one last thing. I almost forgot. I two weeks ago now, cause I forgot that I didn't tell you last week cause we had a guest.
01:35:59.58
Mike
Next.
01:36:03.51
Bill
I threw my phone inadvertently in a Creek.
01:36:08.18
Mike
Nice.
01:36:10.46
Bill
But so here's the thing. It's this, this trail that I found around here. It's like, I don't know, 20 minutes away from here. Nice trail, whatever.
01:36:15.42
Mike
Yep.
01:36:16.38
Bill
And this, it's just this, you know, this out and back, this wooded thing along a Creek, blah, blah, blah. And I literally, I got there. I put my, you know, put the bug spray on and stuff like that.
01:36:23.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:36:23.62
Bill
I wasn't more than three minutes into this, into this walk.
01:36:26.60
Mike
Yep.
01:36:26.86
Bill
it it was a nice Creek, not a huge one, but the size of a driveway, a little bit ah bigger than that, but nice clear water.
01:36:27.08
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:36:31.29
Mike
no
01:36:32.39
Bill
And I'm like, I'm going to get a picture. Cause there's like, you know areas you could step out just a little bit. and You're,
01:36:36.94
Mike
ahha
01:36:37.37
Bill
and two, three feet off of the the basin of the of the creek area. So I got shorts on.
01:36:41.24
Mike
Yeah.
01:36:42.65
Bill
It's nice. I go to pull my phone out of my pocket. It's in my right-hand pocket with my right hand.
01:36:46.17
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. ahha
01:36:47.86
Bill
And it got stuck a little bit on my shorts pocket. And I wasn't trying to force it.
01:36:50.46
Mike
hear
01:36:51.89
Bill
But inadvertently, as it got stuck and it came out, it was as if I threw it. and And I'm watching it, and it goes, bloop.
01:36:58.46
Mike
a
01:36:59.86
Bill
And i I swear to God, for like two, three seconds, I'm looking at that. I'm like, I just threw my fucking phone in a creek.
01:37:06.17
Mike
yep
01:37:07.13
Bill
You know, and I'm just, it's not registering.
01:37:09.62
Mike
Yeah,
01:37:10.20
Bill
So, and then I'm like, well, fuck. So I got to climb down two, three feet, not that bad, but around the tree root, whenever I get down there and it's really clear water. So it's sitting there just face down to the Creek.
01:37:18.93
Mike
right.
01:37:19.00
Bill
It wasn't in the water more than 10 seconds, 15 at the most, but I reach in there and I grab it and it's still on and I'm shaking it off.
01:37:19.15
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Mm-hmm.
01:37:25.84
Bill
And I took the cover off and I just, I headed back to the car because I got towels in my trunk. Yeah.
01:37:30.46
Mike
Right.
01:37:31.00
Bill
And so, you know, took apart the the phone case. I'm taking this. I'm, you know, kind of shaking it out because there's the speaker and there's the power, you know, that the power port and that's it.
01:37:39.32
Mike
right. Yeah.
01:37:40.41
Bill
and And I'm looking at it and i remember, is I'm like, is this the phone that can just take a splash? Is this the phone that could be submerged?
01:37:45.59
Mike
Hmm.
01:37:46.49
Bill
What level phone am I on? What am I, am I fucked?
01:37:48.69
Mike
All right.
01:37:48.81
Bill
Whatever.
01:37:49.13
Mike
Yeah.
01:37:49.49
Bill
And it's still working the entire time. So I'm shaking it out and there's water kind of in the speaker here.
01:37:51.03
Mike
oh
01:37:53.33
Bill
What am like? Fuck. They're trying to blow into there, get all water out. So I just look it up.
01:37:56.31
Mike
ah ha
01:37:57.09
Bill
I'm like, you know, the type of phone, this and that. My phone apparently, can withstand 30 minutes in water and a certain thing.
01:38:04.98
Mike
all right
01:38:06.05
Bill
But it's saying that, hey, if you want to check this out and do this, they're like, don't put it in rice. That could fuck up something. and so they they they don't do that. They're like, make sure you do this. Just don't charge it right away, blah, bla blah, blah.
01:38:16.37
Bill
So I'm like, well, it it kind of is what it is. They're like, well, you can take it and take the SIM card out see if you it'll be able to be, if there was any water damage on the inside. I don't think it was in there long enough.
01:38:25.86
Mike
Right.
01:38:26.01
Bill
But I'm like, I can't believe, i and again, all these fucking places I've gone, And I've been on top of goddamn cliffs, raging rivers.
01:38:32.38
Mike
Right.
01:38:33.14
Bill
I stood on rocks in the middle of ah of a real fucking river, you know, taking pictures literally all over the goddamn country.
01:38:37.44
Mike
Right.
01:38:42.04
Bill
And I just in, you know, just outside of fucking Valpo, Indiana, I threw hook into a fucking creek.
01:38:46.39
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:38:48.46
Bill
It's fine, though. It's fucking fine.
01:38:49.41
Mike
Yeah.
01:38:49.86
Bill
yeah Everything's fine.
01:38:50.23
Mike
Right.
01:38:51.14
Bill
So, so that's it.
01:38:51.23
Mike
Good. All right.
01:38:53.77
Bill
Don't, don't throw your phone anywhere ever.
01:38:55.64
Mike
Okay. All right.
01:38:57.27
Bill
Okay.
01:38:57.94
Mike
Okay.
01:38:58.81
Bill
And put it your ball game.
01:39:00.06
Mike
I will.
01:39:00.79
Bill
All right. I love you, brother.
01:39:01.91
Mike
Love you too.
01:39:03.16
Bill
we will talk soon.
01:39:04.41
Mike
We shall.
01:39:06.02
Bill
Bye.
01:39:06.81
Mike
Bye.
