SoberNotMature - Episode 215 (Mehmet The Rodeo Clown)

This week we have...
Mike and Bill, back at it. We had great guests for the past couple of weeks, but we are back to basics this week.
Mike started out with his reading and it had a springtime theme. New growth, new beginnings and shedding our old skin. We can't always see the changes as they are happening, but we are constantly evolving. Or at least we should be. It was a good conversation.
Then it was gratitude, 8675309, Dr. Oz and his new drinking guidelines, emails and messages, a fun quote, old episodes and airline problems.
We wrapped up with a Florida man, his Mustang and an airport.
Enjoy the episode.

Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome once again to another episode of Sober, Not Mature. And I would like to start off with this episode, even though you're you're kind of i we just had this little very, very short exchange.
00:00:15.54
Mike
Yes.
00:00:15.94
Bill
It's one of those days, but I'd like to start off this episode with a little bit of gratitude, if that's okay.
00:00:20.63
Mike
No, absolutely.
00:00:23.07
Bill
And it has to do with one of one of our, meaning you and i one of our three pillars of our sobriety. So it's, what are our three pillars again? do You remember, right?
00:00:32.34
Mike
Of course. Making our bed every day, pizza every Friday night, and spite.
00:00:38.61
Bill
Right. And I am grateful tonight for my pizza, and I'm going to tell you why.
00:00:43.38
Mike
Alright.
00:00:43.61
Bill
So everyone, i don't know, have everyone, everyone, a lot a lot of people know that we get pizza every Friday, as you just said.
00:00:47.86
Mike
Some.
00:00:51.29
Mike
Right.
00:00:51.71
Bill
That's why I wanted you to repeat that. I was hoping you would. um And the thing of it is, is
00:00:56.31
Mike
I better fucking remember it.
00:00:57.50
Bill
No, not that you would remember it, but you might've been like, you, you tell them the fucking pillars. I don't, I don't want to tell the fucking pillars. You tell them. I wish I would have, but anyhow. So, um, we used to do little Caesars.
00:01:10.13
Bill
Now we both do dominoes. And, i mean, for shit, I don't know how long have I been down here?
00:01:11.38
Mike
Right.
00:01:14.32
Bill
Three years. And, I mean, they, they used to fuck it up in Wisconsin, a little Caesars.
00:01:15.29
Mike
Uh huh.
00:01:18.68
Bill
That's why I went to dominoes and they start fucking it up at dominoes.
00:01:19.96
Mike
Right.
00:01:21.28
Bill
And again, back and forth here, whatever. Yeah. Tonight was the first night in, I mean months, that I've gotten a pizza that actually looked like a pizza with the right amount of toppings.
00:01:31.58
Bill
And and I'm not shitting you.
00:01:31.70
Mike
Hmm.
00:01:33.85
Bill
Last week ah is ah is a good example. and I almost went back and I'm like, fuck it. I just don't i don't want to lose my mind on somebody because I just get so irritated about this. It's just so stupid. Last week's pizza, not this week, this week was perfect.
00:01:47.03
Bill
Last week, it literally, and I'm not joking, it looked like somebody walked by with it with a handful of toppings and accidentally dropped them on my pizza.
00:01:54.11
Mike
Yeah.
00:01:54.43
Bill
Literally, like tripped and like, ooh, I should have done that and tried to clean some off and then gave me my pizza.
00:01:54.51
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:01:59.13
Mike
now
00:02:00.09
Bill
It was fucking terrible, but I'm like, fuck it. At that point, I'm like, whatever. It is what it is, you know? But this this week, I'm like, it was great. I mean, it was made right. It had some, I don't know, was like robust.
00:02:10.17
Bill
I mean, it wasn't like flat, like somebody stepped on it. I mean, it it had toppings. And I'm like, that is a fucking pizza. And I'm like, there's a bit of gratitude, you know?
00:02:18.04
Mike
All right.
00:02:19.88
Bill
And seriously, i I think it was probably um Osage Beach where I've where i've been. And they they usually, for whatever reason, I mean, there's certain areas that I've been that make really good pizza, and that's one of them. um So that's probably the last one I had before the week before I had my heart. Well, maybe it was a week I had my heart attack.
00:02:39.10
Bill
I had a had a great fucking pizza.
00:02:39.59
Mike
Right.
00:02:40.82
Bill
It's like, yeah, well, fuck you, dude.
00:02:41.46
Mike
oh right
00:02:44.09
Bill
But so that that's that was middle of October. So that's six months ago, you know.
00:02:47.96
Mike
Yeah. ah
00:02:48.21
Bill
And I don't think I've had a ah perfect pizza since then. So I figured, you know, what the fuck, man? it's I complain enough about everything.
00:02:55.55
Mike
Right.
00:02:56.22
Bill
i might as well bring out the good things, you know, say, hey, by the way, I had a good thing happen in my life. And it was just tonight, just about an hour, hour and a half ago, not that long ago.
00:03:04.97
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:03:05.50
Bill
So, you know, starting off our our episode with a little bit of gratitude.
00:03:07.35
Mike
Yeah.
00:03:09.26
Bill
So there.
00:03:09.69
Mike
All right. Well, cool. Yeah, good.
00:03:11.35
Bill
Oh God.
00:03:11.69
Mike
Yeah.
00:03:12.02
Bill
But then you know what? No, what I get to complain about now. I fucking forgot. I forgot to start off with award nominated podcast. God damn
00:03:18.30
Mike
Ah, see? Well, you know, you're focused on the pizza.
00:03:22.49
Bill
I know. Jesus Christ.
00:03:22.82
Mike
you're You're happy. See, don't get happy.
00:03:25.18
Bill
yeah don't I'm a selfish son of a bitch. I don't care about us. i care about you know just care about my my fucking pizza.
00:03:28.12
Mike
Right.
00:03:30.98
Bill
Fuck us and this goddamn podcast thing. but um
00:03:33.30
Mike
m
00:03:34.65
Bill
so I got a couple of things on that, too. I talked to Lise earlier, or actually two days ago, I think. I got little update on that. I want to tell you something about that. but um
00:03:41.46
Mike
and Okay.
00:03:42.54
Bill
We've only got a week left. Basically, by the time anyone can listen to this, because it'll be tomorrow.
00:03:46.36
Mike
Right.
00:03:48.26
Bill
so the eleventh is April 11th is the the last day of voting. So...
00:03:52.81
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:03:53.46
Bill
If any ah any of you people out there have not voted yet, please do.
00:03:57.21
Mike
Right. Right?
00:03:57.82
Bill
We're not going to swear to say please. Fuckers, please. Just swear. Just just vote. Vote. we you know weve Yeah, just fucking vote for, as Mike says, for the best fucking podcast on the planet or whatever you say it, are our little promo.
00:04:03.82
Mike
Just fucking vote.
00:04:09.24
Mike
Yeah. i I have no idea.
00:04:14.94
Bill
But anyhow, so yeah, so it's a week from a week from today. but So I got an update on that. We got a couple of, we have a mailbag this week. I got two emails to read plus a message.
00:04:21.11
Mike
o
00:04:22.74
Bill
So we actually have a we have a sober, not mature mailbag tonight. um I've got, you know, and it's only been two weeks, but I think that some of these things, i don't know when these things came up.
00:04:26.49
Mike
Nice.
00:04:31.93
Bill
I have a lot of little tidbits. You know, some of them are sobriety things. Actually, a lot of them are, but some are just little tidbits here and there. So I got some i got some shit. and I'm sure we got plenty of other things to talk about, but I don't know.
00:04:40.28
Mike
Well, good.
00:04:42.85
Bill
I got some i got some stuff.
00:04:43.13
Mike
Good. Yeah. I mean, I got nothing.
00:04:45.88
Bill
but
00:04:46.95
Mike
Wow.
00:04:47.61
Bill
You know, it's so it's okay. i've got I've got, literally, I've got five printed sheets now because I've got all these little fucking tidbits on here, plus little things I've been writing down for readings and whatever.
00:04:51.89
Mike
Wow.
00:04:56.77
Bill
but and And yes, you always have something because you, you are the you're you're the individual and it's it's part of our AI description.
00:05:00.57
Mike
Right.
00:05:04.20
Bill
Mike usually starts off with a reading and then the two, the two discussions. So, you know.
00:05:09.21
Mike
Ah, well, if our robot overlords say I have to do it, then I guess I have to do it.
00:05:14.71
Bill
I don't think it was have to, but it's ah it's been, it's been as they as they say in the corporate world, it's been baked into these episodes for so long.
00:05:16.41
Mike
Ah.
00:05:22.29
Mike
All
00:05:22.39
Bill
But I mean, literally, when did we, was it year, don't remember when, you brought it up because you were, um obviously because of the group thing, and you're like, that'd be nice to do a reading on here.
00:05:27.86
Mike
all right.
00:05:32.77
Bill
I'm like, that'd be fucking awesome, you know? But I mean, I don't know, I don't know when it was, couple years ago, three years ago.
00:05:38.20
Mike
in Yeah, we've been doing it a while.
00:05:38.77
Bill
It's been a long time, though.
00:05:41.94
Bill
So, and I, I do, I like it because it's a two things. It's again, puts good thoughts in our head that are not our own.
00:05:47.61
Mike
Right.
00:05:48.13
Bill
I believe, as you said, gets us to roll around this shit to begin with, but um exactly.
00:05:50.89
Mike
That's redundant. Right.
00:05:55.59
Bill
I didn't even think about that when I said it, but, but yeah, then it's always ah I don't know. if We always get a decent conversation out of it. So personally I like it. I think other people do too. So, so there.
00:06:03.74
Mike
Well, good. All right. Well, hell, if you like it and other people like it, then I guess I have to do it.
00:06:07.13
Bill
hey
00:06:09.56
Mike
So, um yes, a reading. A reading. Which one is it? Let's see here. ah Ah. All right. Yes. um Well, it's been a couple of weeks.
00:06:21.43
Mike
And actually, nothing jumped out at me this week. And I was like, eh, kind of flipping back and looking. I knew there was one that I kind of liked. But I forgot to mark it.
00:06:29.41
Bill
Right. yeah
00:06:31.75
Mike
Because, you know, it's goddamn butt crack at dawn when I do these things. And so, yeah, um I'm thinking about thinking about putting good thoughts in my head.
00:06:36.41
Bill
Right.
00:06:41.74
Mike
I'm also thinking about what the fuck I have to do this day and whatever. So, right.
00:06:45.08
Bill
Okay. Cool.
00:06:46.81
Mike
But anyway, this was this is from Touchstones. It's ah March 20th, so a couple weeks ago. um Yeah, so here it is.
00:06:58.62
Mike
um new life comes from from shedding old skins and pressing through the darkness towards the light spring is the season of new beginnings and of growth somebody named karen kaiser clark didn't bother to look her up all right um All of us in this program have had great turning points in our lives.
00:07:23.80
Mike
In these new beginnings, we have pressed onward or groped through the darkness, hoping to find the light, much like a new sprout arising from the cold soil in spring.
00:07:36.34
Mike
Our recovery has pointed us towards the light. As spiritually alive people, we also have smaller beginnings all the time.
00:07:47.83
Mike
that spring exists for us on the inside, regardless of the time of year. On this particular day, first day of spring, the 20th, we can think about the changes we see growing in our lives.
00:08:02.30
Mike
It may be unclear to some of us just what is changing or how. We may not be able to name the change or describe it until it's in the past.
00:08:14.18
Mike
Springtime brings feelings of liberation, and our growth in this program frees us from muddled thinking, denial, addictions, and codependency.
00:08:26.07
Mike
The touchstone's thought of the day, or a question of the day, or something of the day. I am thankful for new beginnings in the world and the eternal spring within my beings.
00:08:39.48
Bill
Ooh, the eternal spring within my being. Yeah.
00:08:43.56
Mike
going. Right.
00:08:44.79
Bill
Yeah. Things, things growing in our lives. I wrote that down, but not because I did think about the boing, but I mean, i ah did I, didn't do it for that.
00:08:49.21
Mike
hmm. Mm yes
00:08:53.75
Bill
I've got other thoughts on that, but so it, it is kind of funny that, um, you know, when you had mentioned the, uh, you know, like nothing jumped out at you this week, There are, and we talked about this before, but there there seems to be, and I don't even know if it's certain times of the year, because in looking back, because I see the memories on our Facebook page, and I'll post certain things that I know I read that day.
00:09:01.78
Mike
right hey
00:09:13.66
Bill
So this reading meant something to me last year, but this year I'm just like, eh, I'll scroll back and find something else I posted at a different different time. So i did I did a lot of that over the last couple of weeks for whatever reason.
00:09:21.11
Mike
Right.
00:09:24.55
Bill
I don't know. I don't know why things catch my mind and why they don't, or or catch my eye and why they don't, but um it did it just seemed like ah basically i mean you and i were on on the same page with that just nothing was really jumping out at me but this this one i like because you know there was a couple of little things in there and i mean obviously it's using you know springtime and in growth and we talk about all those different things too and um you know planting the seeds and there's there's all these different analogies that go along with uh theoretically with that anyhow you know so
00:09:25.68
Mike
Yeah.
00:09:36.38
Mike
Right.
00:09:43.80
Mike
Mm hmm.
00:09:52.89
Mike
Right.
00:09:53.88
Bill
I mean, that part of it I like. but So we talked about, to begin with, one of the first things I wrote down, i guess you know let's start with that last piece, the but as we always do. and that's I'm sorry, I jumped ahead to something else.
00:10:02.91
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:10:04.84
Bill
But so what is it what was the last part again, the the touchstones thought question statement?
00:10:07.13
Mike
Yeah. Right.
00:10:09.88
Bill
Yeah.
00:10:11.51
Mike
I am thankful for new beginnings in the world and the eternal spring within my being. Yeah.
00:10:17.85
Bill
Okay. So, well, maybe we don't, I don't know. It's up to you. I mean, new beginnings in the world in the spring inside of you, you, you take, you take on that one. If, if anything is on your mind and that nothing pops to my head right off the bat, but you always start anyhow.
00:10:27.48
Mike
Right.
00:10:28.33
Bill
So it makes.
00:10:28.47
Mike
Well, it just kind of reiterated, um you know, the um the last line in the first paragraph was spring exists for us on the inside, regardless of the time of year.
00:10:28.88
Bill
Right.
00:10:41.88
Mike
and yeah, you know, I mean, it's yeah, you know, we think springtime, Easter, which is going to be this weekend and all that stuff, you know, you know, the Christians co-opt the ah spring fertility rights and all that.
00:10:42.00
Bill
Right.
00:10:48.98
Bill
Right.
00:10:56.02
Mike
Um, um, but yeah, you know, new beginnings and all that good stuff. Um, and shedding skins and, and yes, and and growing and, you know, as, as people in recovery, I mean, yes, it, it time, regardless of the time of year, it's, um, yeah, always new beginnings and new growth and new, hopefully, um you know, not being stagnant. I mean, moving forward, all the, all the tropes of this thing.
00:11:24.60
Mike
um Yeah, and and it is. And I like that, you know, I just liked that particular line. um You know, it spring is within us no matter what time of year, always. and Yeah, it's good stuff. um Yeah, growing, you know, and and and and moving forward. i mean, we have to, you know, um we' we're like sharks. We have to keep swimming. Otherwise, we die. Yeah.
00:11:50.26
Bill
You know, and that's so that's always a great, that's a great analogy. You know, and ah people have brought, we've mentioned that before. I don't know if it's been ever talked about on here, but, you know, we've talked about that before. Yeah, you know, it's it is just like a shark, you know, got got to keep moving around and, you know, we got to keep moving. And, you know, to your to your point, you know,
00:12:07.42
Bill
I mean, hopefully we're always growing. Hopefully we're all we're always moving. We're not stagnant and all those things because any of that stuff that goes all the way back to the, you know, to trying to walk up, um you know, a down escalator.
00:12:19.17
Bill
What happens when, when we stop that, you know, it was that, that thing that we were given that piece of paper that we were given, you know, years and years ago back in the Keating center, you know, that, that I, ah both of us still not only remember it, but we've talked about it a number of times on here, know, Because it's just ah it's a great, it's a great visual and a great, you know, thought and all stuff.
00:12:19.54
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:12:25.37
Mike
Yep. yep
00:12:33.82
Mike
Right.
00:12:39.86
Bill
you If you're walking up a down escalator and you stop, what's going to happen? You're going to go backwards, you know, and that's a, that is 100% exactly what, what we do.
00:12:43.51
Mike
Yep.
00:12:49.00
Bill
um You know, not even theoretically, not even like making it up, not even, it's a, it's some, some great image. If we stop, if we stop moving forward, we're the the only place we're not going to stay in one place.
00:12:56.06
Mike
Yeah.
00:12:59.24
Bill
We're to fucking backwards.
00:12:59.74
Mike
Right.
00:13:00.40
Bill
and There's no, no doubt about it.
00:13:00.70
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:13:02.81
Bill
So the, the shedding skins, and that's ah like the first thing I wrote, I wrote down. Do you think that that is something is like an ongoing thing? Or was that mainly like shedding that old skin when we first got sober?
00:13:15.54
Bill
How did you, how do you look at that part?
00:13:17.94
Mike
Oh, absolutely. Well, I mean, okay. I happen to own a snake, right?
00:13:23.13
Bill
yeah Right.
00:13:23.20
Mike
And as they grow, they shed their skin, um, you know, um, several times a year.
00:13:23.58
Bill
Right.
00:13:27.10
Bill
Right.
00:13:29.88
Mike
And, uh, you know, if they didn't, they would yeah yeah again die. Um, and And they wouldn't grow, right? In order to grow and get bigger, they need to shed the old skin. um And um it's very much the same as ah with us. we we We have to, you know, ah it's, you know, sixth and seventh step, man, you know, it's character defects and all that stuff. We got to be willing to let go of that garbage and and our past. And, and you know, um again, you know, we can't forget about it, but we can't dwell on it. We have to let go of it. and
00:14:05.08
Mike
drop the rock. Jesus, how many fucking cliches can I drop into this conversation? ah
00:14:10.26
Bill
Wait, i wish I wish I had a bell. Ding, ding, ding, ding.
00:14:12.82
Mike
right but it's all true i mean it's you know i mean we've talked about that on here too you know yes the cliche is how jesus christ another cliche but they're you know ah we've embraced them over the years you know yes we we thought they were corny and hackneyed and and awful and you know jesus just stop saying that yeah i heard it already you know but again with the growth and with the yes um
00:14:17.05
Bill
Right.
00:14:26.50
Bill
Right.
00:14:41.62
Mike
they've come to grow on me. And I mean, I, I certainly fall back on them all the time and use them all the time because, you know, they have meaning to us now.
00:14:47.45
Bill
Right.
00:14:50.06
Mike
Um, they're not just these words that we say over and over again, but they actually mean shit now. Um,
00:14:56.69
Bill
Right.
00:14:58.01
Mike
So, yes, so the shedding of the skin and and all that. yeah again, like a snake. Hi, snakes and sharks and, um you know, my spider molts too.
00:15:05.53
Bill
hey
00:15:09.11
Mike
She sheds her skin. um Yeah, you know, to get bigger.
00:15:10.97
Bill
Right.
00:15:13.39
Mike
it's its It's nature, man. We have to too, otherwise we will not grow. And if we don't grow, we die. Okay.
00:15:19.80
Bill
Right. Yeah. Well, how you know, don't don't wash your sheets for, you know, about three weeks and then take a look in your bed. You're going to see you're shedding your skin every goddamn day, too.
00:15:27.83
Mike
Right.
00:15:29.02
Bill
You know, so physically it happens. But, you know, to the to the point of the cliches, um I agree 100 percent because all of them. And we talked about that once, I don't know, a few years ago when we were you know kind of newish to this that came up as a topic.
00:15:41.30
Bill
But, um, you know, on the same deal, I mean, some of them, we even, we've used it as tongue in cheek, we've used as jokes and, you know, but, but still, you know, the, the fact that we're even, the fact that we're even using them as a pun or as a, as a joke means that it, it, it has meaning to us, you know?
00:15:48.57
Mike
Sure.
00:15:54.90
Mike
Right. Right.
00:15:59.32
Mike
Exactly.
00:16:00.14
Bill
yeah And it's like, it oh yeah, who one day at a time, though you know, I mean, that's just a common one, but I mean, I get it.
00:16:00.34
Mike
Yeah.
00:16:03.50
Mike
Right. Right.
00:16:07.26
Bill
Um, but yeah, it's, uh,
00:16:07.38
Mike
yeah
00:16:09.43
Bill
the The thing about it is, i I am, and I just said it a you know little bit ago, we were talking about the escalator thing. These things, I've said it a hundred or a thousand times, I'm a visual person.
00:16:20.22
Bill
The easiest way for me to learn, I can't, i can it's not that I can't, but I can sit down and read a book and but do it enough, I'll i'll learn, you know?
00:16:20.47
Mike
right
00:16:25.58
Mike
ahha
00:16:30.51
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:16:30.65
Bill
But I've learned even with with audio books. I mean, the the what I the things that I retain when I'm listening to an audio book versus me sitting down if I tried to read the book. um First of all, I probably it would it would be a chore to get through physically reading a book.
00:16:45.18
Bill
You know, I mean, like a full book like that, all these ones I listen to. But, you know, hearing it and I won't listen to a book from anyone that's not, you know, the the person reading it themselves. Like I wouldn't have I picked up accident accidentally. It was a yeah um i I paid for one through Audible or got it through Audible with. ah ah um Why can't think of Iron Man? Iron Man. Yeah.
00:17:10.52
Mike
Robert Downey Jr.
00:17:11.45
Bill
Jesus Christ. Yeah. So, and I'm like, oh, you know, a little biography type of thing. And it was read by some English dude.
00:17:15.86
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:17:16.89
Bill
and I'm like, well, fuck this.
00:17:17.37
Mike
Right.
00:17:18.05
Bill
I listened about four pages of it. You know, i'm like, I can't. I mean, the the whole point is being immersed in in the person's voice.
00:17:21.75
Mike
Yeah.
00:17:24.81
Bill
Even, you know, even, um you know, Danny Trejo, he was hard to listen to, but I got used to it because he's he's not the best reader in the world, you know?
00:17:28.22
Mike
Mm-hmm. Sure. Right.
00:17:33.27
Bill
But I'll tell you what, his fucking stories make up for every bit of it.
00:17:36.31
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:17:36.92
Bill
let Let the motherfucker stumble. i'm I'm fine with it, you know.
00:17:39.06
Mike
yeah
00:17:40.40
Bill
But I'm a visual person and I need to see these things in these sayings. I can actually put a picture in my head when somebody says something like that, you know. um So 100% and the the shedding of the skin.
00:17:51.64
Bill
I didn't think about the steak.
00:17:53.18
Mike
Right.
00:17:53.40
Bill
Great. I mean, great opportunity to, you know, again, to to throw a visual in there, you know, or even obviously even your, you know, Dwight, you know, I mean, yeah. or us anything like that so yeah i was just thinking to begin with you know i mean shedding that old that old uh you know active alcoholic skin but yeah i mean i on top of it i mean i hope that that i'm different than i was you know two years ago certainly than 10 years ago or whatever and i know i'm different than i was when you know we first got sober but i mean all of that is the you know that that growth and shedding of the skin and all that so um i mean yeah i 100 agree now the other thing that i wrote down was um find the light okay
00:18:04.25
Mike
Right.
00:18:16.02
Mike
right
00:18:19.71
Mike
Oh yeah. Uh
00:18:31.52
Mike
huh.
00:18:32.02
Bill
So I guess same question on that. Do you think that is more of a a thing in the beginning trying to find the light?
00:18:35.94
Mike
Hmm.
00:18:39.36
Bill
Or, i mean, are we always searching for a different, you know, a different pathway or a different light or whatever? I mean, I don't know.
00:18:45.53
Mike
Yeah, i mean um for me, it's more like trying to make it brighter, you know.
00:18:53.21
Bill
Yeah. Okay.
00:18:53.69
Mike
um Yeah, you know, it's it's, yeah, you know, searching for the light, but making it, making it yeah, brighter, and and so I can see better and and more, and yeah, you know, that's a little...
00:18:53.89
Bill
Sure.
00:19:11.41
Mike
It's verging on spiritual, but um
00:19:14.17
Bill
ah Well, I mean, I've heard this program's a little spiritual. I don't know.
00:19:18.23
Mike
yeah, a little bit.
00:19:18.53
Bill
I mean, so it's okay.
00:19:19.31
Mike
I know. Right.
00:19:20.17
Bill
I think it's okay. You're you're fine.
00:19:21.11
Mike
yeah but you know um not my favorite part of it but that's okay but no yeah that that is it it's um you know maybe not searching for a different light or whatever i mean there's a light there's light there's light and darkness right you know and um we definitely know what the darkness is like um yeah you know and and hopefully we have um you know, sort of found some sort of light for our lives, whatever that may be.
00:19:21.28
Bill
Yeah. Right.
00:19:26.68
Bill
yeah
00:19:51.08
Mike
um Yeah, I think at this point, for me, it's just trying to make it brighter.
00:19:57.66
Bill
right and that's ah you know that's a good point i mean to to begin with and yeah we had to find you know like you know let's let's just emphasize the word the t-h-e word the light and now we're just that we we see the light but maybe it dims every once in a while we're trying to see better um and again you know okay go back to what i've what i've talked about before you know if i If my mindset is that, you know, I live ah not again, I when I say these things, I have to try to I really try to qualify the fact that I I'm not living in depression.
00:20:11.16
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:20:26.92
Bill
I'm not trying. I i could not imagine anyone who lives in.
00:20:27.79
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:20:30.12
Bill
i mean, true, you know like clinical depression.
00:20:30.61
Mike
Right. Sure.
00:20:32.86
Bill
i And I feel for people that do that.
00:20:33.24
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:20:35.06
Bill
That's not me.
00:20:35.56
Mike
Right.
00:20:35.74
Bill
But I hit these I hit these lows.
00:20:36.06
Mike
Right.
00:20:39.00
Mike
Yeah.
00:20:39.32
Bill
And if I, if I ever, it is, it's my, it, I think it's my starting point, you know, it's my, it's my baseline and, and I need to figure out, you need to question myself, why the fuck am I in a good mood?
00:20:44.56
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:20:50.07
Mike
Yeah.
00:20:50.40
Bill
You know, a bunch of shit rolled downhill on me and I'm, I'm already in a, you know, in a place where my baseline is this. And I think that, oh, this, what was me? So I'm trying to brighten up the light type of thing. But so all of that could, could easily be, um, once again, we, we know where to find the light.
00:21:05.94
Bill
We know how to find the light.
00:21:06.26
Mike
me Right.
00:21:07.70
Bill
Um, but you know, every once in a while, maybe, maybe our light has a dimmer switch on it and somebody turned a fucker down and you're like, no, no, no.
00:21:14.46
Mike
Right.
00:21:14.62
Bill
Got turn that, turn that thing back up. Got to find some.
00:21:16.38
Mike
and and yeah and and And another analogy is, you know, sometimes some clouds roll in. um yeah and sometimes you know And sometimes it's smoke that we've created because we started a fucking fire.
00:21:22.49
Bill
Yeah, that's a good point.
00:21:28.47
Mike
um But, um yeah, you know, but either way, you know, we're still trying to get to that light, you know.
00:21:28.57
Bill
right.
00:21:37.85
Mike
And, yes, sometimes it's obscured by outside stuff and sometimes it's obscured by internal shit. um But either way, we're still trying to strive to get to the light and, and and again, make it brighter.
00:21:51.71
Mike
Yeah.
00:21:52.10
Bill
Right.
00:21:52.39
Mike
So, yeah.
00:21:55.10
Bill
Yeah. And I, uh, no, I, I agree with all that. And then, um, obviously the things growing in our lives, of course I wrote that down. I think we talked about the boing already, but, um, and, uh, the, the, the last thing that I wrote down in here was, um, can't name the change.
00:22:04.77
Mike
No, right.
00:22:12.34
Bill
And the reason I wrote that down is that I looked at it more like I, I can't necessarily see all the changes unless I stop, you know, and, and really take a look, which every once in a while it's fun to do, you know?
00:22:19.22
Mike
oh right
00:22:24.42
Bill
and
00:22:24.41
Mike
Yeah. Well, I mean, i I think what it says is we sometimes we can't see it until it's already passed, which is definitely, you know, I mean, when it's going on, and the big book talks about that too, you know, other people see the changes before we do, and and we can't see it while it's happening.
00:22:29.30
Bill
Right.
00:22:39.52
Mike
It's, you know, we have to... Again, looking back, like you said, you know we're not the same people we were 16 years ago. um Definitely.
00:22:45.96
Bill
Right.
00:22:46.67
Mike
you know But yes, I mean i may be changing and growing today. i don't know um you know. Maybe in a week or so, I'll look back and go, oh, yeah, look at that.
00:22:57.48
Mike
i mean Hey, that light thing I came up with out of my fucking dumb head.
00:22:58.58
Bill
Right. hey
00:23:01.16
Mike
Yeah.
00:23:02.84
Bill
here
00:23:05.08
Mike
Right. So, yeah, you know, I think that's very true that, you know, but most of the time we don't see it when it's happening. It's it's we have to look back and go, oh, yeah. Well, I used to be like that. Now I'm this way. But I didn't notice I was this way until I looked back and saw what I used to be like.
00:23:22.96
Bill
Right. And you know what? It's ah I mean, and we're, you know, we're human beings just like just like anyone else. And, you know, it's ah ah I'll be the first one to admit, and I think you would be, too, that, you know, I mean, life again, we're we're dealing with life, life on life's term, life still happens, all these sort of things.
00:23:35.95
Mike
Mm hmm. Yo.
00:23:38.30
Bill
You know, so if we're, if, if life is being, um you know, more lifey than normal, you know, then it's, it's harder, you know, to see, to see the change and maybe even see the positive and into to brighten up that light.
00:23:44.81
Mike
Mm
00:23:50.51
Mike
hmm.
00:23:51.48
Bill
But, you know, the, the thing of it is, and here's the.
00:23:51.83
Mike
Right.
00:23:54.08
Bill
I know that's a cool part for me and I, um, I'm going to speak for you, but I think I can in this case is that even as shitty as things got, we've dealt with some shit, you know, not, there's been plenty of people.
00:23:58.73
Mike
Mm
00:24:03.09
Mike
hmm.
00:24:05.23
Bill
There's always people out there that have it worse than us. There's always people that have a little bit better, maybe, um, you know, and literally not just because we're looking at it in this grandiose way that people have it better, but, um, certainly people have it worse than we do out there.
00:24:07.29
Mike
Sure.
00:24:17.54
Bill
We can agree on that if nothing else.
00:24:18.01
Mike
Absolutely. Yes.
00:24:19.26
Bill
You know, um but regardless of it, I think that we, you know, so far, even though we've we've dealt with some shit over the years, you know, we've had, I don't know, how many successful days, you know, so far.
00:24:31.24
Mike
Yeah.
00:24:31.92
Bill
know, these yeah thousands, some, you know you know.
00:24:33.05
Mike
Thousands. Yes.
00:24:36.82
Bill
Up until this point, it's shitty or it's weird or is fucked up or maybe we had to apologize or the storm's rolled in or the you know there's smoke in the house because we lit a goddamn fire.
00:24:42.00
Mike
Hmm.
00:24:46.18
Bill
you know Again, figuratively.
00:24:46.50
Mike
Yep.
00:24:48.38
Bill
you know but But things, we we know where the light is, we know how to get out of it, and we know what to do if we can't or if we feel like we can't.
00:24:48.41
Mike
Right.
00:24:54.52
Mike
Yeah. Mm hmm.
00:24:55.81
Bill
We've got to go talk to somebody. but you know the The funniest part, it just reminded me of when, again, the Keating Center, when we used to
00:24:57.66
Mike
Yep.
00:25:04.34
Bill
And we've talked about it on here before, the the Kylie mile that we talked. And, um you know, has nothing to do with our niece Kylie, if she ever happens to listen to this.
00:25:08.08
Mike
Mm hmm.
00:25:11.41
Bill
His name was John Kylie. was a guy who was, ah you know, of those AA staples.
00:25:13.86
Mike
Yep.
00:25:15.29
Bill
And um we had to walk every morning.
00:25:15.66
Mike
Yep.
00:25:17.21
Bill
And it was all the way to the end of this long industrial parking lot and back.
00:25:17.76
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:25:20.92
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:25:21.10
Bill
And that's when I used to do my prayers in the morning. And I would always walk by myself. People like, hey, come walk. And I'm like, oh I'm good, you know. And i'd I'd hang back a minute and I'd walk by myself because that's when I could actually, you know, number one, have a little bit of free time because that was hard to come by.
00:25:26.66
Mike
Right.
00:25:32.71
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yes.
00:25:34.82
Bill
Yeah.
00:25:36.04
Mike
Stacked up like cordwood. Yeah.
00:25:37.56
Bill
yeah Yeah, it was it impossible to come by. But on top of that, I did my prayers. And I remember walking back one time and I remember exactly where I was. I was, you know, past the the main entrance that you always go into somewhere between the main entrance and the building.
00:25:51.36
Bill
And I literally remember where I was.
00:25:51.70
Mike
Right.
00:25:53.44
Bill
And I just kind of in my head, I'm like, when did I start saying these things? You know, what whatever prayers I was going through.
00:26:00.66
Mike
Right.
00:26:00.75
Bill
And how did I get here? not where I was standing, but um what have I done?
00:26:04.54
Mike
Right. Yeah. Uh-huh.
00:26:06.68
Bill
it Because again, it was like, you know, I don't know, 70 days or whatever it was it before I started working, I think.
00:26:10.62
Mike
aha Yeah.
00:26:12.63
Bill
And I'm like, how did i get here? You know,
00:26:14.70
Mike
Right. Yes, yes. Yeah.
00:26:15.57
Bill
Who's this?
00:26:15.78
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:26:16.17
Bill
Who's that big car? Who is my beautiful wife? No.
00:26:18.65
Mike
right
00:26:18.87
Bill
Talking heads talk.
00:26:19.83
Mike
yeah s yes
00:26:20.76
Bill
I know you do. but um But I mean, seriously, it was just, but it was kind of amazing so i'm like, oh shit, man, that's kind of cool. You know, you know, and it just, so I don't necessarily, um I don't know that I do that on a regular basis.
00:26:27.48
Mike
yeah
00:26:33.03
Bill
Probably not really, but I think I do.
00:26:36.06
Mike
hey
00:26:36.54
Bill
You know, but more of a in passing type of thing. I know the growth I've had for the most part, you know, if nothing else. And usually this time of year, I mean, we're coming up literally within within weeks now, you know, from our anniversaries.
00:26:46.62
Mike
Yeah. is it
00:26:47.89
Bill
And I did more of my reflective stuff in like this January area. I don't know what the fuck happened in the last two months, you know. I seriously, I don't know what, I don't know where fucking time went, you know, know, all a sudden it's, you know, it's April 3rd and we've got, you know, I'm going to be out Cleveland on the 17th.
00:26:57.75
Mike
Right.
00:27:02.90
Bill
You know, we're going to see the, um, we're going to see shuffle and then our, my anniversary, your anniversary, all this shit's coming up.
00:27:05.94
Mike
Yep.
00:27:08.18
Bill
is like, holy fuck.
00:27:09.37
Mike
Yeah.
00:27:10.68
Bill
But, um, I don't know. I mean, that was a, it was a good reading. There was a, there was a lot of stuff packed in there.
00:27:15.69
Mike
Yeah, yeah, I thought so.
00:27:17.40
Bill
Yeah, I liked it.
00:27:18.01
Mike
Yeah.
00:27:19.38
Bill
So what else, anything else ah within that reading that, uh,
00:27:21.98
Mike
Jesus. i No.
00:27:24.31
Bill
I always ask. I always ask.
00:27:26.71
Mike
I know.
00:27:26.79
Bill
I didn't i didn't think, but.
00:27:27.31
Mike
Yeah. I'm i'm i'm amazed that again looking back on it, I'm amazed I got that much out of me.
00:27:34.10
Bill
Right. Yeah. I mean, literally that we went, up what do we have the first five minutes that we just yipped in the app and we went, you know, 20 some minutes on a, on a reading like that, which is a, well, yeah, whatever it was, but no, i agree.
00:27:39.20
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:27:44.55
Bill
It was a, it was a good one. We've had readings before that we've been done in like 12 minutes. So I think that was a, that was a good one.
00:27:48.28
Mike
Right?
00:27:51.09
Bill
All right. So, um, in this one, I, I, I thought about it. Um, don't know, this was yesterday or the day before, but I didn't even write it down because figured it came up, it came up and it just reminded me when, uh, when we were talking about the reading part of it and being in this, um, I don't know this, I want to say victim sort of thing, but anyhow, our down, our down modes all the time, or if we were down modes all the time.
00:28:04.41
Mike
m
00:28:13.46
Bill
So, um, I was on, uh, uh, both Instagram and Facebook. Can you see that? I posted every year the picture when, uh, you know, Alec and Derek were kids with the Easter bunny.
00:28:21.08
Mike
Yes, right.
00:28:23.38
Bill
Yeah. So, and you know, my, my son uh, I mean, just scared the fucking death of the, of the Easter bunny at that age, however old he was, you're too old.
00:28:30.75
Mike
Mm-hmm. Now, is he like a di of three or four, somewhere in there?
00:28:34.33
Bill
You know what? Actually he may have been come to think of it.
00:28:35.06
Mike
Four or five?
00:28:36.33
Bill
Yeah. Somewhere in that range. I come, you know, thinking about how, yeah, probably in that range.
00:28:37.37
Mike
Yeah. Solid four-year-old, yeah. Mm-hmm,
00:28:41.11
Bill
Oh, yeah, you know, let's probably think of it. Yeah, he probably was around Ali's age at that at that time.
00:28:45.27
Mike
yeah.
00:28:45.35
Bill
You know, so figure he's, you know, he was four. Alec was six, you know.
00:28:49.02
Mike
Right, yeah.
00:28:49.27
Bill
And Alec is just sitting there like, huh, hey, with this half smile, like, what's this what's wrong with this fucking dude over here?
00:28:52.66
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:28:54.62
Bill
So, and I post it every year because it's it's funny as fuck.
00:28:55.00
Mike
Yes.
00:28:57.38
Bill
And like ah Dawn's mom always comments on it every once a while.
00:28:57.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:29:00.25
Bill
Dawn will see it.
00:29:00.54
Mike
I saw. Yep.
00:29:01.26
Bill
She's like, Jesus Christ, that never gets old.
00:29:01.46
Mike
Yeah.
00:29:02.70
Bill
And everyone, it's it's a fun memory, you know.
00:29:05.30
Mike
yes
00:29:05.69
Bill
And Katie even brought it up because Kimmy posted one with, with Ali and in Theo. She just got a picture taken recently.
00:29:11.19
Mike
even i saw yep
00:29:12.73
Bill
And then Katie had a comment. She's like, oh, you know, he seems to like it. Not like Derek. And then he was, you know, so I mean, everyone knows it.
00:29:20.82
Mike
yeah
00:29:20.95
Bill
So this, this person on, and it was an individual that, um well, I, I'll say we followed on Instagram and and this person followed us, she followed us. And, um you know, this back and forth stuff, her, I don't know, every once in a while, her her posts go, they're a little weird.
00:29:30.92
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:29:37.56
Bill
um She's very, it sounds to me like she's dealt with a lot of, I mean, she's had, sounds like, and she's been open about it, you know, abusive stuff and this and that and ah bad some bad shit, some bad trauma shit.
00:29:37.95
Mike
Mm.
00:29:44.51
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:29:47.77
Mike
Sure. Yeah.
00:29:48.42
Bill
But I mean, she talks about it a fucking lot, you know.
00:29:50.75
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:29:50.82
Bill
And not my deal, not your deal. I know that sort of thing.
00:29:53.18
Mike
Right. Uh-huh.
00:29:53.66
Bill
But every once in a while look at her post, I'm just like, Jesus Christ, we all fucking get it. You know, I feel for you. I really, really do. You know, but that's like her that's like her whole page is, you know, that, you know.
00:29:59.38
Mike
Sure. i Right. Yeah. Yeah. Speaking of dropping the rock. Mm hmm.
00:30:07.19
Bill
Right. And it just, I, but I mean, I'm sure that's at this point, she's considered to be an influencer of sorts. And I think that's how she, you know, it's how she grabs her followers or whatever.
00:30:14.33
Mike
Sure.
00:30:17.50
Mike
huh.
00:30:18.02
Bill
Fine, he's your own, you know, or his own.
00:30:19.16
Mike
Right.
00:30:20.12
Bill
But so this Easter picture and she actually follows, um or ah yeah, follows her as friends would be on Facebook, you know?
00:30:20.15
Mike
Right.
00:30:27.52
Mike
Mm
00:30:27.93
Bill
And i don't know her. I've never actually talked to her or anything like that, um you know, but maybe messaged a couple of times, whatever things come up, whatever, over the years.
00:30:30.72
Mike
hmm.
00:30:35.95
Mike
Yeah.
00:30:36.15
Bill
So I got Facebook yesterday and I think it was, it was lunchtime. And Dawn's mom was on there. She's like, Oh, never get sold. Other people laughing at it or laughing at it.
00:30:45.89
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:30:46.99
Bill
This other person from Instagram who also follows me on Facebook, made some comment on everyone's laughing it, you know? And then this, this individual, this, this trauma individual, she posts the word trauma with like the three dots and then this sad face.
00:30:52.16
Mike
Yeah.
00:30:55.12
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:31:02.80
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:31:03.03
Bill
And I'm like, I laughed and I'm like, trauma.
00:31:08.09
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:31:08.38
Bill
And I typed that back with that, with the laughing emoji.
00:31:08.97
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:31:10.90
Bill
I'm like, like, first of all, and I, I shouldn't even have gone this far. Cause I'm like, it's, I didn't need to justify anything with his first statement. And I'm like, he had no lasting effects from it. That's the part that didn't have to put in there.
00:31:19.65
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:31:20.55
Bill
This is just stupid. But I'm like, this is just a, it's just a fun memory, you know, for, for all of us.
00:31:25.24
Mike
yeah
00:31:26.26
Bill
That's it.
00:31:26.36
Mike
right
00:31:26.58
Bill
You know? And then the more and more it just kind of it just kind of fucking irritated me. I just I unfriended her because for for months now, it's one of those things where I realized what I was doing.
00:31:34.42
Mike
ah aha
00:31:38.54
Bill
You know, I was sitting there.
00:31:39.00
Mike
yeah
00:31:40.06
Bill
I was it was her ah so some of these posts and things like that, like exactly what i was talking about. i just think that it's I don't want to say over exaggerate exaggerates. That's a wrong way to put it. whatever she dealt with, I feel for people who have to deal with it.
00:31:51.32
Mike
Sure.
00:31:52.02
Bill
I just think it, it whether it's the word exploited might be too bad. I just think it's too much. You know, I don't, I don't understand that.
00:31:57.53
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah. um Focusing on the negative.
00:32:02.12
Bill
Yeah. So yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:32:02.65
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah, yeah. Not moving on, not letting it go, focusing on, you know, bad shit. i mean, it's, is it happening right now? That's always my fucking line to, you know, I mean, I've dealt with people and friends and family and whatever, and you know, um yeah, you know, someone actually very close to me and it's, it
00:32:14.56
Bill
Right.
00:32:24.09
Mike
was having some problems and I just, you know, sit them down and look at them and look at them square in the eye and say, is it happening right now? No. Okay. Then, then look around.
00:32:35.66
Mike
Now is all we have. Now is all you say, I wonder where I learned this shit from, but yeah, you know, now is all we have.
00:32:39.64
Bill
Right.
00:32:41.82
Mike
Is it happening right now? Is, is, is, are you comfortable? Are you happy? Are you right now, right in this moment? And it's like, Yeah, okay then. Then fucking don't focus on the bad shit that isn't happening right now.
00:32:57.88
Mike
Yeah, yeah, I know.
00:32:59.22
Bill
Yeah.
00:32:59.58
Mike
It's, yeah, and some people can't. Some people, it's their identity, and that's a choice, because all this shit's a fucking choice, you know, yes.
00:33:05.00
Bill
Right.
00:33:08.78
Mike
Yeah, fuck, man. Let it go. Look around. there's Yeah. is are you being Is it raining on your head? Are you freezing cold?
00:33:17.98
Bill
Right.
00:33:18.64
Mike
Are you right are you hungry? Are you, right? Okay, then. Then shit's not that bad right now.
00:33:25.73
Bill
Right. And, you know, and that's the thing, too. i mean, she's been sober for a bit. I'm thinking probably somewhere in the six to nine years, somewhere in that area.
00:33:29.62
Mike
and Right, right, right.
00:33:32.22
Bill
Long enough, in my opinion, long enough to know better, you know.
00:33:32.83
Mike
Right. Right.
00:33:35.02
Bill
And in the in the thing of it is, and then, like I said, i kept I kept getting these side thoughts. I'm like, is this just, this is like, you know, the the deal. This is the hook, you know, this is the, for the page, you know.
00:33:42.46
Mike
easy yeah
00:33:44.62
Bill
And I'm like... Then I'm like, I don't want to be thinking that way, but then maybe it is.
00:33:47.74
Mike
Right.
00:33:47.87
Bill
so So, so then finally I'm like, you know, I just, I said, I, I'm not torturing myself, but I'm like, why am I, why am I doing this?
00:33:53.75
Mike
Yes.
00:33:55.30
Bill
Why am I looking at this? I've been irritating me at all. And then, you know, on top of that, she's kept kind of at a distance, but then, then you stepped into my fucking yard, you know, and I'm like, I don't want to deal with you anymore.
00:33:57.82
Mike
yes
00:34:03.86
Mike
Yeah, right. yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly.
00:34:08.66
Bill
He'll be, don't be looking, looking at me in my life and telling me that we traumatized my son.
00:34:08.82
Mike
Exactly. Right.
00:34:13.01
Bill
We did not, we didn't take him.
00:34:13.34
Mike
Yeah, right. Well, yeah.
00:34:15.21
Bill
We didn't take him there on purpose to have him scream at the fucking Easter buddy.
00:34:17.08
Mike
right okay
00:34:18.65
Bill
You know, we took him, we took him there to try to get a nice picture. And yeah, he freaked out. We, I, he was probably up there like less than a minute because you could see he was trying to get away.
00:34:25.21
Mike
yeah right well yeah
00:34:28.02
Bill
yes Now here's the other funny part. So Alec, when he was younger, um so we got one, we got one scared of the fucking Easter bunny.
00:34:32.69
Mike
a
00:34:36.03
Bill
Right.
00:34:36.18
Mike
Right?
00:34:36.35
Bill
So Alec was scared of Santa Claus.
00:34:38.42
Mike
Right. Right.
00:34:39.29
Bill
So he didn't like the, it it was the beard. It was nothing. I mean, if Santa Claus didn't have a white beard, he'd i'm sure he'd be fine, you know?
00:34:45.66
Mike
Right.
00:34:46.27
Bill
But I mean, literally, you'd see him on the We were in Kohl's one time and walking around and I had him in, I had him in a stroller. So, I mean, he was, he wasn't working. year or two old i think at the time whatever he was so i round this corner and there's this um probably a two or three foot tall santa so i round the corner and this santa claus literally like it eye level it with this fucker and he just screams i'm like jesus christ now here's what i used to do to him i this is what i used to shave you know still with shaving cream and you know razor and stuff so i got my face all fucking lathered up alec come here you can walk into the bathroom come around there see shaving cream my face
00:34:54.74
Mike
right
00:35:04.08
Mike
Yep. Yeah.
00:35:16.96
Mike
Absolutely.
00:35:21.27
Bill
ah is funny as fuck, you know, but, um, I don't know.
00:35:23.70
Mike
yeah
00:35:24.87
Bill
So yeah, I unfriended her unfriended Facebook, unfriended her on Instagram, the whole bit.
00:35:26.62
Mike
yeah absolutely
00:35:29.59
Bill
i'm like, I just don't, I don't need to sit there and, you know, it's like, okay, that, why does this person keep crashing their car? Why do I have to keep, you know, watching this person crash their car?
00:35:35.45
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:35:38.07
Mike
Right.
00:35:38.81
Bill
I don't, I just don't need to, there's plenty of other, plenty of other positive stuff.
00:35:40.28
Mike
Nope.
00:35:41.77
Bill
So,
00:35:41.98
Mike
Absolutely.
00:35:43.29
Bill
So I don't know. Yeah, it was ah it was just it was just so stupid, you know, so fucking stupid. And, you know, it it took me um and it was yesterday. I think that it whatever whatever yesterday the day before and I posted it.
00:35:54.52
Bill
So it only took me a day to figure it out. But I couldn't figure out why it kept bothering me.
00:35:56.80
Mike
Yeah.
00:35:58.89
Bill
Finally, I'm like, well, why why do I even keep I even have her as a friend in there?
00:36:01.28
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:36:02.84
Bill
I'm like, fuck it.
00:36:02.92
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:36:03.32
Bill
did You know, ah fix the glitch.
00:36:05.80
Mike
Yep, exactly. Delete.
00:36:08.79
Bill
yeah So, so I did, but, uh, okay.
00:36:11.19
Mike
Yes.
00:36:12.49
Bill
So do you want to hear from the, uh, do you want to hear from the mailbag? you want to hear a couple of little, just a side note tidbits? I've got some podcast stuff and whatnot, like other podcasts. What do you want to hear about?
00:36:22.39
Mike
Where are we at? Let's do a tidbit or two, take a break, and then we'll go to the mailbag.
00:36:31.03
Bill
Okay. So this one, um, you remember the song, uh, eight, six, seven, five, three, oh, nine.
00:36:35.64
Mike
Yeah, Jenny.
00:36:36.89
Bill
Yeah. So did you hear that that is now a um the ah cancer awareness hotline?
00:36:42.97
Mike
Yes, I did hear something about that a few weeks ago. Yeah. yeah And it's, um why am I blanking on the artist's name? I'm blanking.
00:36:52.13
Bill
Tommy Two-Tone.
00:36:52.82
Mike
Thank you. Yes. Why isn't that top of the list for me? um Right. Yeah. He's like involved and he like, yeah, to set it up and donated and lended his support and all that happy crap.
00:37:06.72
Bill
Right.
00:37:07.33
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:37:08.14
Bill
Yeah. And i was I was just one of those things. I'm like, so um personally, and whatever whatever they were doing, I mean, I thought, I'm like, that's fucking cool to me. you know whether Whether it was cancel cancer, mental health, whatever whatever it is out there, you know a number that i'm literally that that song, even if you hated the song you know or didn't like that type of music or didn't like pop music, who doesn't know you know that...
00:37:17.53
Mike
Yeah.
00:37:20.89
Mike
Sure.
00:37:28.66
Mike
Right.
00:37:31.69
Mike
Yeah.
00:37:32.10
Bill
you know It's kind of like you know years ago when they're they're like, who didn't know who Mike Tyson was? You can go to some fucking...
00:37:36.21
Mike
Right.
00:37:36.71
Bill
you know, corner of the world where have no TV and never, never had boxing in their lives and everyone fucking knows Mike Tyson. You know, I think everyone knows about fucking Jenny, you know, but i just thought it was just, I don't know.
00:37:42.66
Mike
Right.
00:37:45.26
Mike
Yeah.
00:37:47.93
Bill
I don't know why that, it's just cool. I mean, I'm like, I'm like, I got to write this down because I'm like, that's, it's just fucking cool.
00:37:50.58
Mike
Yes.
00:37:53.61
Bill
It's very fucking cool.
00:37:53.72
Mike
Absolutely. Yeah. You know, right. Hey, positive stuff. Look at that.
00:37:57.69
Bill
ah hey Yeah, so, okay, let's let's go. And this is not, well, i don't know, maybe this is kind of negative. Let me let me dump into, so do you know who, um I'm trying to even think what this guy's title is. Maybe, you know, Dr. Oz within the government. What is his title? Do you know?
00:38:11.45
Mike
Mehmet. Yeah.
00:38:13.40
Bill
ah
00:38:13.67
Mike
Yeah. I mean,
00:38:17.42
Bill
I'll get it. I'll get it in the article. I'm just popping it. I couldn't remember.
00:38:19.40
Mike
yay yeah i mean is yeah
00:38:20.10
Bill
Oh, yeah, yeah, Mehmet. Yeah, you're right. You're right.
00:38:21.66
Mike
Yeah, Mehmet, yeah. He's, ah what the fuck, is he a senator or something now?
00:38:26.27
Bill
overseeing he's overseeing the centers for medicare and medicaid services that's what but um yeah i mean i and they yeah dr oz you know this is what they obviously what they call them all the time yeah remember the eyes but um so i heard recently um that he had um it was some sort of comments about alcohol consumption blah blah blah then i heard it and did you hear what he said
00:38:27.73
Mike
Or...
00:38:30.84
Mike
Okay. I don't know. Yeah.
00:38:36.38
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:38:49.72
Mike
Hmm.
00:38:52.47
Bill
Okay. So um he is, and again, that this guy's a, somebody that, ah somebody's looking at him, you know, i me so're looking to him, you know, for for things like this.
00:39:03.22
Mike
yeah. Right. I mean, you you know, yeah. He was on the TV, so we must know what he's doing.
00:39:07.93
Bill
Well, I know, but you you know what I mean? At least he's a, he's a public figure. And I think that, you know, people people have a personal responsibility at that level, even if, or should, should.
00:39:11.61
Mike
there Yeah, yeah.
00:39:15.03
Mike
Yeah. but Yeah, right. I mean, fuck, we have personal responsibility.
00:39:20.98
Bill
Yeah.
00:39:21.51
Mike
We're at no level at all. You know, we're who whore rung below fucking rodeo clowns.
00:39:23.32
Bill
ah Right, right.
00:39:28.86
Bill
I think, you know what? I i want to be, but if i if I had the physical ability, I wouldn't mind trying to be a fucking rodeo clown. I don't want to die that way, but that sounds it kind of looks like fun every once a while.
00:39:36.07
Mike
Yeah. Right. Yes.
00:39:40.06
Bill
So anyhow, you know i'm I'm okay with that. I'm okay with being a rung below. it i want to I don't want to be, yeah, I think rung below.
00:39:44.06
Mike
Yes. Yeah, on on the show business ladder, we're definitely a rung or two below rodeo clowns.
00:39:46.22
Bill
That's a good that's a good point.
00:39:51.86
Bill
Okay, so um recently, it says ah early 2026, within the last month, whenever it was, um he described he described alcohol as a social lubricant and stated that while the best scenario is not drinking at all, small social amounts can be part of a healthy life.
00:39:57.17
Mike
Yeah.
00:40:04.78
Mike
Hmm.
00:40:07.52
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:40:07.67
Bill
he He defended removing specific daily drink limits, calling for moderation rather than strict caps. Okay, so let me just read one more thing. Well, two more things. So the social lubricant theory, um he emphasized that alcohol helps people bond and socialize, arguing that the health benefits of social connection can outweigh the risk of moderate drinking.
00:40:16.24
Mike
right.
00:40:25.68
Bill
And the no breakfast rule, okay? This is a funny, I fucking laughed out loud when I heard this. He said he advised against drinking in the morning, focusing on the idea that alcohol should be consumed in small amounts like at social events.
00:40:38.90
Bill
So he's basically saying, you having some drinks to do whatever. He's like, yeah, just don't drink it for breakfast. Apparently, what's his exact words is how I heard the article. I'm like, who is this fucking dude?
00:40:45.79
Mike
Yeah.
00:40:47.10
Bill
And what is he? What did he say? So I looked it up. So here's here's the thing. And here's here's my opinion on this. And um
00:40:52.41
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:40:53.37
Bill
i I think it's dangerous, you know, because the, in the reason I do in that, I think that, um, yes, there's gotta be personal responsibility.
00:40:55.90
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:41:01.73
Bill
There's gotta to be personal responsibility that people take, but think about you and I, for instance, okay.
00:41:07.03
Mike
yes
00:41:07.29
Bill
Yeah. You and I at our, at our times when we weren't, you know, 16 years into this, in into this thing that we're in and we're, we're reading something or listening to something.
00:41:16.44
Mike
Yeah.
00:41:17.92
Bill
And we're, we're at the point where we're not, you know, let's say we're five, six years out from, you know, completely bottoming out and, you know, good old fucking Dr.
00:41:24.11
Mike
Yeah.
00:41:25.72
Bill
Oz comes on the TV and us, we're like, well, that's all we needed. Yeah.
00:41:29.23
Mike
True. Yeah.
00:41:29.85
Bill
you know Or or you know take take your younger folks that are coming up and maybe have heard you know for all these years, because that's how it's been that, um what, the last handful of years, no amount of alcohol is supposed to be good for you.
00:41:42.10
Bill
Don't do this. Even wine and blah, blah, blah. They're saying there's no positive effects to it.
00:41:44.31
Mike
Right.
00:41:46.02
Bill
um you know But if you're going to drink, obviously, you know keep it to a small amount, blah, blah, blah, this, that. you know So I just i thought it was... ah I thought it was somebody, somebody at a level, like you said, he's on TV, granted blah, blah, blah.
00:41:57.32
Bill
Certain, certain responsibilities should have.
00:41:57.61
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:41:59.28
Bill
I think it's, I think it's bad for him to say something like that because there could be, you know, number one, impressionable and or you know, headline people that are just doing what they do.
00:41:59.55
Mike
Yeah.
00:42:07.72
Bill
I just think it's irresponsible. And I just thought I wanted to bring it up. That's all. So opinion or no.
00:42:12.18
Mike
All right. Yeah. Yeah. I've got an opinion or two. First of all, he's a fucking stain, but, um, there's one opinion. Um, but I don't know to pick whatever stain you you fancy.
00:42:21.21
Bill
Okay. Wait, what kind of stay stain? Stain?
00:42:27.96
Mike
Um, that's fine.
00:42:28.12
Bill
I think a shit stain would be good.
00:42:30.80
Mike
Um, all right.
00:42:30.84
Bill
Okay.
00:42:32.20
Mike
But okay. So anyway, yes, you he's a carny and whatever and use TV doctor, blah, blah, blah. Um,
00:42:38.78
Bill
Right.
00:42:41.30
Mike
You know, um, I understand what he's saying. i absolutely do.
00:42:45.61
Bill
Right.
00:42:46.31
Mike
Right. You know, normal people, um Yeah, you know, normal people, yes, it does. It it breaks down some barriers and then this social thing. And, you know, if you're fucking uptight and you don't have, you're not an alcoholic and whatever, maybe a couple beers would help you loosen up and be a better person.
00:43:05.28
Mike
I, you know, yeah, I could see that.
00:43:05.72
Bill
Right.
00:43:08.19
Mike
Absolutely. um As far as his responsibility and, and you know, yes, if we're if you're already an alcoholic, like I was long before I took a drink, um
00:43:18.54
Bill
Right.
00:43:19.58
Mike
Yeah. You know, yeah, it's good. I'm going to take that bullshit and co-sign it and run with it. And, you know, Mehmet said it's okay. Um, yeah, cause I was a fucking tool.
00:43:27.58
Bill
hey
00:43:30.30
Mike
Um, and you know, tools enjoy the company of other tools.
00:43:30.49
Bill
right
00:43:36.25
Mike
Um, so yes, I would have agreed with him and and used it for nefarious purposes. Cause that's what I fucking do. um, Yeah, whatever, man. If you're taking life advice from a TV doctor, whatever, you know, um well go to Dr. Phil, who's not even a real doctor.
00:43:52.82
Bill
hey
00:43:53.64
Mike
You know, he's just a complete fucking tool.
00:43:54.07
Bill
right
00:43:56.12
Mike
of yeah Go listen to him about some stuff, you know.
00:43:56.44
Bill
Right.
00:43:59.48
Mike
Go see Maury and, you know, whatever. um Too bad Jerry Springer's dead because I'd rather listen to him than any of them.
00:44:08.31
Bill
Well, his his bodyguard, that Steve dude, he's got some sort of, he went into this whole TV show and thing.
00:44:08.68
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:44:15.31
Bill
His name was brought up recently on the morning show, and I can't remember. He was in the news. He was in some sort of news recently.
00:44:20.09
Mike
Yeah.
00:44:21.63
Bill
But, yeah, you know Steve, that big dude that it was his his bodyguard.
00:44:22.07
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Wilco.
00:44:25.72
Bill
Yeah, is that what it was? Okay, whoever he was.
00:44:26.74
Mike
Yeah.
00:44:27.56
Bill
Yeah, he was he was around, and he went on did his own thing. And I knew it for a time, but I haven't heard his name fucking years.
00:44:30.55
Mike
Yep.
00:44:32.40
Bill
But sorry about that.
00:44:32.76
Mike
Right.
00:44:33.36
Bill
Go ahead. Didn't mean to interrupt
00:44:33.85
Mike
no Anyway, yeah, you know, if you're taking life advice from these type of people, good luck. um
00:44:40.74
Bill
Right.
00:44:43.00
Mike
And whatever. As far as irresponsible, yeah, our he's fucking in the government and and running politician stuff. And I know he ran for some stuff. think he wanted to be fucking a senator.
00:44:53.12
Bill
Right.
00:44:56.00
Mike
don't know. Hell, I think he was a candidate for president at one point.
00:45:00.15
Bill
but
00:45:00.60
Mike
um yeah
00:45:01.27
Bill
well Well, why wouldn't he be, right?
00:45:02.74
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:45:02.94
Bill
Right.
00:45:03.30
Mike
Exactly. So again, you know, if you're taking life advice from these type of people, you got bigger problems than having a couple of beers and thinking it's okay. And and and and again, you know, for a lot a lot of people, it is okay.
00:45:13.04
Bill
Right.
00:45:17.98
Mike
You know, just not for us.
00:45:18.50
Bill
Right. It was just weird. i mean it's been it Maybe i I've been conditioned to the fact that, and I don't think it's because because of the fact that I'm sober. I've just been conditioned to you know the the media and everything like that for years. It's just it's been a long time since somebody of any stature, whether he's a, you know, a fucking moron or not, but anyone of any stature has said, you know, Hey, just go out, go out have some drinks, man.
00:45:39.77
Mike
Right interesting Yeah, right right Sure
00:45:43.28
Bill
You're cool. You know, it's, it's just been a while since somebody said that maybe that's where that threw, threw me off a little bit. Um, you know, it just a different, a different twist on it. Whereas like, ah It's like, oh, yeah, yeah, just go go fucking eat junk food.
00:45:55.46
Bill
You're fine. You're good.
00:45:56.15
Mike
Yeah, right
00:45:56.26
Bill
No, you're. go Yeah. Go be healthy.
00:45:58.30
Mike
is it
00:45:58.71
Bill
yeah Go sit at McDonald's, man. It's a great place to get, you know, get social. You know, it's just it was weird, I think, because of that part of it.
00:46:02.39
Mike
sure
00:46:06.01
Mike
yeah
00:46:06.63
Bill
But I really thought the that the fact that he said, oh yeah, just ah just don't drink.
00:46:06.68
Mike
right
00:46:11.83
Bill
Just don't drink at breakfast.
00:46:13.21
Mike
yeah
00:46:13.43
Bill
You're good. That that I thought was funny. I'm like, God, is he is he one of us? I mean, is he fucking?
00:46:18.39
Mike
No, were clearly not.
00:46:19.78
Bill
No, I know.
00:46:20.23
Mike
Just
00:46:20.50
Bill
yeah Was he fucking drunk when he said it, though? You know. Just don't drink at breakfast.
00:46:24.42
Mike
don't drink it. Right. would if What if it is your breakfast?
00:46:26.64
Bill
Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, I'm like, well, fuck, man.
00:46:29.02
Mike
Yeah.
00:46:29.98
Bill
I needed to drink at breakfast, not at breakfast, but yeah, like it it was my, I needed a drink in the morning.
00:46:31.00
Mike
Yeah.
00:46:34.42
Bill
i How else was I going to see?
00:46:34.74
Mike
Yes.
00:46:35.87
Bill
Cause I couldn't get my contacts in.
00:46:37.46
Mike
Right.
00:46:39.22
Bill
All right. So on that note,
00:46:40.86
Mike
Yes. All right, well, you know you know, don't take his advice, but take the advice of our sponsors, and we'll be right back after these words.
00:47:01.78
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome back. God, I hope they were good commercials. If they're taking the advice yeah or or don't.
00:47:06.55
Mike
Right. Yeah, or don't. i don't know.
00:47:11.48
Bill
Yeah. I mean, we were in the, we were in there too. This'll be, this'll be the, i don't know. We will do. I'm trying to think. Oh no, I won't do the, the Sands Bar commercial or web promo next week is by the time the episode is released that that'll be the, well, it could be laugh, whatever.
00:47:26.04
Mike
you know I don't know.
00:47:27.45
Bill
I think voting would be done. So voting is done on the 11th. Oh, so real quick on that. um
00:47:31.67
Mike
Yes.
00:47:32.57
Bill
I had taken ah Jacob's episode. So the well two things with the episode last week, we had Jacob. um Anyone who hasn't listened to that episode, it's a it was kind of an odd episode for us, only in the fact that we we haven't really had many episodes, if any, that I can now say that.
00:47:45.63
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:47:51.26
Bill
I don't know that we've had any episodes that have focused so much on the medical side of things, have we?
00:47:55.35
Mike
Right? No, I don't think so.
00:47:57.53
Bill
Yeah, I don't think so either. So, um you know, functional medicine, liver liver failure, cirrhosis. I mean, ah Jacob was fucked up.
00:48:03.66
Mike
Yeah.
00:48:05.33
Bill
And I mean, literally on his deathbed, you know, they were talking about, you know, basically just trying to get him comfortable.
00:48:05.66
Mike
Yes, he was. Yep.
00:48:10.41
Bill
And, um you know, he was, like you said, he was...
00:48:10.78
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, they were sending him home to die. Yep.
00:48:14.84
Bill
Yeah, he was about to plan his fucking funeral. um You know, so that's been three years ago now, but it's a great episode. Good dude. But um two.
00:48:21.70
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:48:22.58
Bill
So two things on that. So Jacob's volume for for Mike and I, his volume seemed a little low um throughout the thing.
00:48:27.05
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:48:27.98
Bill
um The recording came out fucking perfect.
00:48:28.12
Mike
Yeah.
00:48:31.19
Mike
Did it. Actually, I meant to look just because I, yeah, same thing, man.
00:48:31.86
Bill
Oh, yeah.
00:48:35.47
Mike
You know, he was really low and in our end, but, you know, good, good.
00:48:39.90
Bill
Yeah, it was.
00:48:39.94
Mike
Hey, so
00:48:43.22
Bill
Well, and here's a good thing. So so what that what that means is that whatever was happening in the, um you know, obviously in the, between the internet part of it, in the studio and whatever, um you know, there was something missing in there where we were, there was somehow muffled, you know, more likely on his end because you and I don't have a problem with that.
00:48:58.36
Mike
Yes. a
00:49:01.35
Bill
But the whole point with this studio, clearly it's all recorded locally on each computer.
00:49:01.40
Mike
Right.
00:49:05.99
Bill
So his audio was fucking perfect. By the time it got uploaded, everything came in and it was wonderful, you know, so.
00:49:08.73
Mike
Great.
00:49:12.11
Mike
Cool.
00:49:13.14
Bill
But, um, but I thought about, I'm like, you know what, again, odd to the point, we don't usually talk about medical stuff. And, uh, I, I threw it up to, uh, the sober curator. Cause I'm like, oh, this would be a great one for, you know, for the website.
00:49:24.76
Mike
Yeah.
00:49:25.14
Bill
So Elise got back to me and, uh, that's going to be, it'll be up on the website. I let Jacob know today too, but on the 12th or 13th, something like that in this month.
00:49:30.37
Mike
Cool.
00:49:32.86
Bill
So, um, obviously get a little bit more exposure for him, but, but she said, uh, she's like, so did you find out if, uh, she hear anything yet from Chris, you find out if you guys won yet.
00:49:33.18
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:49:36.25
Mike
Nice.
00:49:42.35
Bill
I said, no, I'm like, I, you know, I mean, the voting ends on obviously 11th. I'm like, i I don't even think we're not going to, we're going find out for months. And she's like, she said last year, cause she won last year, and whatever her category was.
00:49:50.36
Mike
Right.
00:49:55.27
Bill
And, you know, she was the, again, the, the person about town type of thing, whatever, whatever her, the I forget what the title was.
00:49:55.38
Mike
Huh.
00:49:59.48
Mike
Right. Yeah, it she definitely is.
00:50:03.77
Bill
Yeah, and like Lee, she always says she wants to be the sober Kevin Bacon, which makes me laugh every fucking time. But, I mean, she's doing a goddamn good job. Everyone seems to know her, you know, in the in this sober community.
00:50:15.00
Bill
um But so that's what she won for, whatever that category was. She said that um the winners found out early last year.
00:50:18.38
Mike
Yeah.
00:50:21.98
Mike
Oh, okay.
00:50:23.38
Bill
So I'm like, really?
00:50:25.32
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:50:26.04
Bill
So I'm like, then I got a little nervous. I'm like, a fuck, we may know were like within a week, you know, you know, or two weeks or whatever it is.
00:50:30.08
Mike
Oh, right.
00:50:31.24
Bill
I mean, I don't know. We should, I mean, he might know now. I mean, if we, you know, whatever, who's ever get, if there is a landslide type of thing, fuck, he may know, you know, who's, who's leading right now.
00:50:38.94
Mike
Right.
00:50:40.55
Bill
That's what Kathy said the other day. She's like, it's like, I wish there was some way for, for, you know, everyone to be able to see where you guys were, were ranking.
00:50:45.13
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:50:47.63
Bill
Cause I, some of these things do that, you know, some of these national, you know, contests,
00:50:50.10
Mike
Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, like the rock hall. Yeah.
00:50:53.18
Bill
Oh, do they? Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:50:54.01
Mike
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:50:54.34
Bill
Well, yeah, of course. Of course. Yeah, yeah.
00:50:55.96
Mike
Yeah, yeah. How many votes and who's in the lead and all that crap. Yep.
00:51:01.21
Bill
i That would be more fucking nervous. I'm glad. i Now that I think about it, I'm glad.
00:51:03.38
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:51:04.69
Bill
No, I...
00:51:06.23
Mike
Ignorance is bliss.
00:51:08.38
Bill
Yeah, you know, and I told i told Elise, I'm like, because she's like, oh, you know, ah she goes, so you know, i work on some stuff. She's in the in the process of trying to sell her house right now. But um she's like, oh, in the process of doing all this, she's like, I'll get a couple of posts and push.
00:51:16.38
Mike
Hmm.
00:51:20.80
Bill
And I said, well, I said, here's the thing. I said, worst case scenario, because I'm just out of curiosity. I'll i'll do a search every once in a while for, you know, the awards or whatever. And I see a couple of the other podcasts that are nominated that have posted about it.
00:51:29.75
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:51:32.31
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:51:33.44
Bill
But I mean, we posted a fucking lot. Yeah.
00:51:36.57
Mike
Right.
00:51:37.13
Bill
And guess how many, and like as of as of right now, because I couldn't remember how many i um and i I have made up so far, but guess how many of the AI things I've made up so far?
00:51:45.52
Mike
Uh-huh. I'm going to go... I'm going to say... two dozen, maybe three dozen.
00:52:00.41
Bill
Okay, so you're saying 24 to 36? 52. 52.
00:52:02.42
Mike
Yes.
00:52:03.35
Bill
fifty two
00:52:04.12
Mike
yeah
00:52:06.71
Bill
And I'm looking, I'm like, I'm like, really? So I looked through, I'm like, Jesus, it doesn't seem like that much. But so I've got a, I've got a couple of, I just did a new one and you know, I did the one, did you see the airplane one i did?
00:52:11.19
Mike
Right.
00:52:17.59
Mike
I did not.
00:52:18.71
Bill
Yeah. So yeah, take a look when you get a minute. I just did a, i just did one with the airplane picture. But I, I don't know i mean, I've been having fun doing it, but so we, we've got obviously a week to do that, but yeah, I mean, i don't know.
00:52:28.95
Bill
We may end up hearing, you know, beforehand, you know, if, you know, if we, we, we may know, I mean, are we, are we fucking losers?
00:52:32.09
Mike
All right.
00:52:35.13
Mike
Okay.
00:52:36.31
Bill
Are we, did did we win? And if we,
00:52:40.02
Mike
Did the rodeo clowns win?
00:52:41.94
Bill
Yeah. And if, so, I mean, what, one way or the other two, I think that I'm not saying that I don't know for a fact that we're the ones that have been promoting this more than anyone else in the category, but it sure fucking seems like it.
00:52:52.90
Bill
I mean, I'm, I'm posted two to three times a day, you know, with at least two, you know, now I backed up a little bit, but I mean, to begin with, I was posted two, three times a day, sometimes more just fucking pushing it, you know, and I did it on purpose because it just, I, the one thing that I've learned, if nothing, if I haven't learned anything else with social media, and especially Instagram, you know Because we we don't follow any of the rules as far as the podcasting, as far as our long form.
00:52:55.48
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:53:11.04
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:53:16.06
Mike
Right.
00:53:16.44
Bill
We don't do video. We don't do all these things that everyone's saying.
00:53:18.64
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:53:18.96
Bill
We don't rely on YouTube. We don't do any of this shit. you know But when when it comes down to catching people's attention, I try to take little pieces of information.
00:53:21.78
Mike
Right.
00:53:27.97
Bill
And I know one thing is that you know people's attention span, I know how I get on Instagram and how I use it. I know other people use it too.
00:53:33.89
Mike
Sure.
00:53:34.93
Bill
It's the scroll thing. So just like anything else, the more you see something, the more it embeds into your head. You may not even know why you know what sober not mature is you know just because you've seen it 17 times in a fucking day then you're over on facebook you're like why do i keep saying what's sober what so worst case scenario i've just tried to try to you know put in people's heads but yeah so anyhow we may know um i don't know i don't know if it'd be within a week i don't know if whatever it is but um we we may find out we may find out sooner than later so who knows yeah okay so you said you wanted to dip into the mailbag right
00:53:43.86
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:53:51.72
Mike
All
00:54:00.95
Mike
right.
00:54:05.27
Mike
and Okay. All right.
00:54:10.71
Mike
I do.
00:54:12.12
Bill
Okay. So do you want, we've got two emails and then um actually I might've shared these emails with you, but i I, did, I shared the one with, from the Andrew census, I believe, but i don't know if you really had chance to look at it.
00:54:15.87
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:54:22.10
Mike
Yes.
00:54:23.76
Bill
And then the one from Tim, I wanted to read both of on here though. So everyone can obviously enjoy them because they were nice. um Tim's Tim's was funny, but then we've got also got a message on Instagram.
00:54:29.25
Mike
Yeah.
00:54:33.92
Bill
So do you want the emails first or the Instagram message?
00:54:36.02
Mike
Let's do the emails first.
00:54:39.06
Bill
All right, so let's go back to... Now I got to find... oh fuck, man.
00:54:42.90
Mike
Okay.
00:54:43.54
Bill
I got so many goddamn... These sober, not mature things back and forth are crazy. um Okay, so here's... this is This is our friend Tim. He's the one that is on the East Coast, South Portland, Maine.
00:54:56.66
Bill
And he's been, if I remember correctly, he's been sober 30-plus years, if I remember correctly.
00:55:02.65
Mike
Okay. All right.
00:55:03.90
Bill
And he was one of the guys we picked up as a listener from... um Sober speak. I think when Gary went on with that guy, i think we picked him up from there.
00:55:09.98
Mike
Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
00:55:13.84
Bill
If I'm not, if I'm not mistaken.
00:55:15.67
Mike
Sounds right.
00:55:15.93
Bill
So anyhow, this was, um, God damn, almost a month ago now, but, uh, well, yeah, close to that a few weeks. So hi, Bill and Mike, uh, been a while since I've said hello. I caught up on all the episodes a while back and now just, um, just hearing in the car weekly or listening in the car weekly.
00:55:31.82
Bill
I haven't thought of writing except when I'm driving and that's probably not the best time to type.
00:55:36.28
Mike
Right.
00:55:36.43
Bill
Yeah. I thought that was kind of funny. Just wanted to let you know I'm still here, still sober and still listening. Oh, fuck you. if If I want to buy you a cup of coffee, I'll buy you a fucking coffee.
00:55:48.18
Bill
Might do it right now just to piss you off.
00:55:48.44
Mike
m he
00:55:50.76
Bill
LOL. That's the one that I did the quick recording of our episode a couple of weeks ago because I just thought that was funny.
00:55:55.19
Mike
right
00:55:56.62
Bill
But he said, he was kind of wrapping up, but just wanted you to know that you and one other recovery podcast are my go-tos every week.
00:55:56.79
Mike
ah hu
00:56:03.44
Bill
There are others I catch during drive time, but in my never-to-be-humble opinion, ah you by far exceed all the rest.
00:56:13.59
Bill
Oh, yes, I did.
00:56:13.91
Mike
yeah
00:56:14.71
Bill
I did my civic duty and voted for you guys in the podcast award thing. Hope you guys win, win big and kick ass. So that's from our buddy Tim out of South Portland, Maine.
00:56:25.02
Mike
Nice.
00:56:25.06
Bill
So, yeah, I mean, I i thought it was.
00:56:26.90
Mike
Well, thank you, Tim. That was very, very cool.
00:56:29.46
Bill
Yeah, and he did. He did buy us. ah He bought us some coffees, you know bought us five. So you know through $25 sent us.
00:56:34.07
Mike
Right.
00:56:35.77
Bill
And the same thing, you know we've we've made this very, very clear. um i i was going to take it down at one point, but then I didn't. And the only reason I didn't take the link down is because every once in a while, we get people like Tim that actually go out of their way and you know want to do something nice for us.
00:56:43.27
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:56:49.34
Mike
e
00:56:52.68
Bill
And for that, we're not going to, not that we're denying people, but
00:56:53.02
Mike
Right.
00:56:56.41
Bill
um it's ah It's a way for people to, if they if they want to give us something, then fine, we'll take it. ah But we, you know, the same thing we've talked about, we're not going to be out there whoring ourselves for a $5 goddamn don donation.
00:57:05.69
Mike
Right.
00:57:09.43
Mike
Exactly.
00:57:09.51
Bill
So, yeah, so from whatever that was that he sent us that, well, I think I was thinking from the minute, well, actually still probably now the month of March and even into into April, um you know, he basically paid for our podcast studio for a month.
00:57:22.01
Mike
Yes.
00:57:22.85
Bill
you know a month plus.
00:57:23.06
Mike
Yes.
00:57:24.17
Bill
And, you know, for that, we we say thank you.
00:57:25.08
Mike
Right. This episode has been brought to you by Tim.
00:57:28.31
Bill
in South Portland, Maine. Thank you, Tim.
00:57:30.88
Mike
Right.
00:57:31.15
Bill
And and fuck you, too.
00:57:33.56
Mike
right
00:57:34.90
Bill
yeah But seriously, thank you. it' so you know He said nice things about us, which is, um again, we don't get we get very, very few comments.
00:57:40.34
Mike
to
00:57:43.10
Bill
We get very few emails or anything like that. But you know literally, and we talk about this every time, every time we get an email, it's really fucking nice. you know And it's heartfelt. And it's just those... I'm glad. If we if we got...
00:57:57.66
Bill
That wouldn't be nice to get, you know, a bunch of like pats on the back every once in a while, but yeah probably not.
00:58:02.87
Mike
Pat on the ass.
00:58:03.96
Bill
Yeah. I think this one, no, this, this is even better. I like, I like this better.
00:58:08.09
Mike
o
00:58:08.48
Bill
So, all right. So um second email from the email bag. This one is from Andrew that was on two weeks ago, the treasure, obviously the, you know, the treasure individual for everyone.
00:58:13.91
Mike
Yes.
00:58:18.65
Mike
Okay. The pirate.
00:58:21.34
Bill
Yes, yes. So not not last week, but the week before when we had Andrew on.
00:58:22.51
Mike
Hmm.
00:58:25.22
Bill
So he said, hey, guys, just wanted to say thank you again for having me on. Genuinely had a great time with you both. It felt easy, real, and just like a couple of guys having an honest conversation, which I think is exactly why what you're doing works. I meant when I said on the show, I really respect what you're building. There's something powerful about people just showing up, being themselves and trying to help others along the way. That's the whole game right there.
00:58:49.19
Bill
I'm grateful to be part, to be a small part of it. And I'm definitely looking forward to staying in touch and hopefully doing again. Sometimes appreciate you guys. And that was from Andrew from another man's treasure from two weeks ago.
00:58:58.90
Mike
Nice.
00:59:00.99
Bill
So that would have been episode two 13, think.
00:59:01.65
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:59:03.84
Bill
think Um, but yeah, it was a, it was a good episode.
00:59:04.47
Mike
Sure.
00:59:06.95
Bill
We had a good time with him, but again, you know, some, some guy out there saying nice things about us for no reason whatsoever.
00:59:11.30
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, right. Yeah. Well, no, i and I definitely like the description. Yeah, just guys showing up and, you know, being real and then trying to make things a little better.
00:59:24.43
Mike
Yeah, that's it, man.
00:59:24.73
Bill
and Right.
00:59:25.67
Mike
That's all we're fucking doing, Andrew.
00:59:27.77
Bill
Well, and that's why when, um that's why I read his email when, you know, like at the beginning of the podcast, because that's kind of what he said. He's like, he goes, I'm not, I'm not polished. I'm not a professional. I'm not this, I'm not that.
00:59:37.75
Mike
yeah
00:59:38.73
Bill
And, you know, that' so I'm like, seriously, that's one of the reasons why you're here, you know, is because you said that and you're not some, you know, not trying to blow a bunch of, you know, fucking glorified smoke up our asses and, you know,
00:59:42.33
Mike
Right. Yes. Mm-hmm.
00:59:49.72
Bill
And, you know, here's here's the thing, too. So Jacob had sent me a message earlier today on Instagram, too. i almost forgot about this. But, um you know, he had he said, you know, ah thank thank this again, obviously, for having him on and blah, blah, blah.
00:59:55.83
Mike
yes
01:00:02.12
Bill
And he asked, you know, if we were getting any any decent comments. He said he thought the episode went well. But then what he said was he goes, he goes, I listening to myself, he said, i i really felt like I was almost struggling to get my thoughts in order, you know.
01:00:15.60
Bill
And he goes, I'm sorry. He goes, that's something need to work on. I'm like, oh my God, don't apologize. I said, the episode played well. Everything was fine.
01:00:21.74
Mike
Yep.
01:00:21.96
Bill
No problem whatsoever. And I thought about it after the fact, and this is the cool part, is that like he was he admittedly said that every other podcast that he had been on, he was basically telling the same story, right?
01:00:33.30
Mike
Right. Right.
01:00:34.30
Bill
So I think that he and a lot of other people, they get in this rhythm where it's like, they're just, okay, I'm going to tell my story and this is what I'm going to do.
01:00:38.20
Mike
here
01:00:42.81
Mike
Right.
01:00:43.58
Bill
I mean, how many, how many leads have you heard where you've heard the same individual, you know, at different meetings and you hear the same, literally top to bottom, same lead, right?
01:00:43.77
Mike
right
01:00:47.19
Mike
Oh, yeah.
01:00:49.75
Mike
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:00:56.15
Bill
Yeah. And it's just, it's sometimes I'm just like, okay, I don't know, you know, with the, with the lead thing, like you and I talk about, we, we never know what we're going to talk about in a lead. I've never had a lead that's been the same thing. I'll talk about some of the same points.
01:01:06.26
Mike
Right.
01:01:07.23
Bill
I know you do too.
01:01:08.09
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:01:08.39
Bill
You know, there there's.
01:01:08.89
Mike
yeah I mean, well, and I mean, I start my lead pretty much the same way, um you know, just to get myself going.
01:01:09.55
Bill
Right.
01:01:16.98
Mike
And then, yeah, and then I'm fucking, I'm off, man.
01:01:17.03
Bill
Right.
01:01:20.34
Mike
Just whatever. The room and the, you know, the crowd and and whatever and and and whatever comes into my fucking head. You know? Yeah. And I mean, I know I miss a ton of stuff, but I know that ah whatever I say probably needed to be said to somebody in the room, and that's the only reason I'm fucking there.
01:01:41.01
Bill
Right.
01:01:41.50
Mike
Yeah.
01:01:42.26
Bill
Yeah. And I, I started doing that, you know, years ago too. I started off with, uh, you know, basically my, my last drunk quote unquote.
01:01:48.53
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:01:48.86
Bill
And that's the only, that's the only drunk story I tell unless it happens to come up in in passing throughout the, throughout my lead.
01:01:49.11
Mike
Right.
01:01:54.46
Bill
But yeah, same, same thing, you know, it,
01:01:54.58
Mike
Right.
01:01:56.79
Bill
Whatever, what's on my mind that day? What happened that week?
01:01:58.84
Mike
Yeah.
01:01:59.11
Bill
You know, what's what's going on in the room? You know, how are people reacting to whatever I'm talking about?
01:02:02.79
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:02:03.27
Bill
You know, what, and I know my first sponsor said it. I think your your first sponsor did too.
01:02:08.03
Mike
Right.
01:02:08.26
Bill
It's like whatever, whatever comes out of your mouth at that point, that's what needed to be said, you know, and what clearly somebody needed to hear or, you know, somebody took it in, right?
01:02:11.17
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, right.
01:02:17.69
Bill
You know, so.
01:02:17.69
Mike
Right.
01:02:18.06
Bill
Yeah.
01:02:21.05
Bill
But, but yeah, so I, you know, and I thought about that with, with Jacob, but I'm like, I'm like, no, I said, that's kind of cool because I think that that's been the one fun part.
01:02:21.06
Mike
Hopefully. Mm-hmm.
01:02:29.85
Bill
And I can think of at least a handful of people that we've had on that I think were thrown by, um you know, by, by your opening statement, you know, about how we do leads, which I think is fucking hilarious because I don't think, I don't think people know what to do with themselves sometimes.
01:02:38.42
Mike
Yeah, right. Yes. Uh-huh.
01:02:44.57
Mike
Right.
01:02:44.82
Bill
And, know, Jacob was just honest. He's like, I'm trying to figure out how to put this in words and keep it brief.
01:02:49.50
Mike
Right.
01:02:50.38
Bill
And that's when you're like, you're like, okay, here's where you were and here's what you did. This is what it is.
01:02:54.04
Mike
Yep.
01:02:54.34
Bill
So, so what happened now? And he's like, oh, okay.
01:02:55.90
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
01:02:57.26
Bill
Yeah.
01:02:57.41
Mike
Yeah. ah
01:03:00.28
Bill
Well, then that we had, I think that the greatest one was when we had Jim on from the the ranch, you know, thing.
01:03:06.85
Mike
Mm,
01:03:06.92
Bill
And he said, he goes, he goes, okay, I'll make this easy for everyone. He'll think about the worst thing that you did. He goes, I did too. And then he's like, okay, let's talk about something else.
01:03:13.62
Mike
Yep.
01:03:15.58
Bill
And it that was it.
01:03:16.63
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:03:16.79
Bill
You know, that, that was his lead in, which I thought was fucking wonderful.
01:03:18.58
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
01:03:20.70
Bill
So, but anyhow, so obviously great emails from um Andrew and then also from Tim. And then the message we got on on Instagram and there was, there was more to this message.
01:03:30.78
Bill
It was a little bit more detailed. And this is from our, from our, our buddy Al.
01:03:32.80
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:03:35.10
Bill
We've, we've talked about Al before he follows us on Facebook and Instagram. I didn't get into some of the more detailed stuff that he talked about because, you know, certain things I try up I don't know, I'll filter out certain things. Cause I think that, I don't know, whatever, maybe it's nobody's business, you know, what he was talking about, but,
01:03:45.35
Mike
Sure.
01:03:48.65
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
01:03:50.14
Bill
So the message on Instagram, oh, he was talking about, first of all, he was talking about the back and forth and how we go about talking about things. And he talked about AA. And he said that we put, he goes, you guys put AA in a very good light.
01:04:03.48
Bill
um you know Obviously more detailed about his past and what he's gone through and whatever. But he just said the way that he put it was kind of like, you know it it almost came across as that maybe he didn't always feel that AA would be the thing type of type of whatever.
01:04:07.61
Mike
oh hu
01:04:17.39
Bill
You know, but he goes, you guys really put it in a good light. And, you know, he goes, hey, maybe someday I'll look more into it or blah, blah, blah, that sort of thing, you know.
01:04:24.67
Mike
Sure.
01:04:24.83
Bill
So it just that I thought that was kind of nice because we don't we don't push it.
01:04:27.13
Mike
That was right.
01:04:29.21
Bill
And with the when we talk about it, just this is what we do and this is what we we've learned type of thing.
01:04:29.82
Mike
Yeah.
01:04:33.21
Bill
So I thought I just thought that was kind of cool. Yes.
01:04:35.35
Mike
Yeah. but Hey, I heard this somewhere.
01:04:39.33
Bill
Yeah. Yeah.
01:04:39.54
Mike
Attraction rather than promotion. Yeah, and absolutely.
01:04:41.85
Bill
yes yeah
01:04:42.90
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:04:43.54
Bill
yeah
01:04:43.86
Mike
You know, o this is a you got to now man it's just this is how it worked for us. And yeah, you know, this is how it worked for me. And, yeah you know, hey, this fucking atheist, yeah it's god God, God, God, God all over the fucking place.
01:04:56.46
Mike
Right. Yeah. Yeah, it is. It's a fucking pain in the ass. I agree with you 100%. But guess what? The actual footwork involved with it and the way it's laid out. Hey, it worked for me.
01:05:07.06
Mike
So there you go.
01:05:07.26
Bill
Right. Yeah. and um And that's the whole thing. You know, i i think about, you know, the foundation part of it. I mean, Alcoholics Anonymous is where both of us were were introduced.
01:05:18.30
Bill
And I know you, again, you had other experiences in the past, but, you know, specifically from, you know, this point forward from the Keating Center forward, that's what we were introduced to and that's the type of recovery we were introduced to and the the foundation that we built not just with you know the steps and the mindset the practices and the principles but also the the people and being able to watch people successfully you know work the program you know how it's supposed to be done and you know as marty used to say that you know there it's there's a 100 success rate if you do what we tell you to if you do what we do you'll get what we get And, you know, these are people with, you know, 10, 15, 20, you know, 25, 30 years of sobriety.
01:05:21.79
Mike
Right.
01:05:24.65
Mike
Yep. Mm hmm.
01:05:29.38
Mike
Yup.
01:05:38.72
Mike
Yup.
01:05:41.23
Mike
Yup. this
01:05:51.38
Mike
yep
01:05:56.66
Bill
Ray, 50-some years fucking sobriety.
01:05:56.92
Mike
Yep. Yep. Yep.
01:05:59.70
Bill
You know, some fucking AA dude. Some old fucking AA dude from Cleveland, Ohio. You know, so.
01:06:03.70
Mike
ye
01:06:05.11
Bill
But then um he also said that, um Al said that he looks forward to our episodes every Saturday, which I thought was nice.
01:06:11.83
Mike
me
01:06:14.28
Bill
And that made me think of something else. So, again, over the last few weeks, Um, I ran across a, a podcast. Now this is one as me as a listener, we talked about this at one point.
01:06:24.61
Bill
do you remember that, um, podcast that I listened to? There was the the male and the female and just all of a sudden one week they were gone. And then the next week there were gone.
01:06:30.65
Mike
Yeah, yeah, I remember you talking about him, yeah.
01:06:32.79
Bill
Yeah. And then you, you mentioned something that I thought, cause I'm like, I, I, you know, they, whatever it's their, their deal. They do what they do. And then you had a different opinion about that. Do you remember what you said about them having a responsibility to at least, you know, like to their community, whatever.
01:06:46.14
Mike
Yeah, yeah, I mean, it sounds like something I would say.
01:06:46.16
Bill
you remember that?
01:06:49.46
Mike
i don't remember exactly, but yeah. Yeah, yeah know again, because you listened and you were engaged and whatever. And yes, there's there you know this little dog and pony show that we fucking have.
01:07:01.49
Mike
um Yeah, there's a certain responsibility to it. I don't fucking like it.
01:07:06.33
Bill
Right.
01:07:07.34
Mike
I'm sure you don't fucking like it. but you know There's a lot of things in this new life that I don't like the responsibilities of. But I like the rewards that the responsibilities bring.
01:07:19.14
Mike
so yeah So I take the responsibility because I like the fucking rewards because I'm selfish and self-centered and I want me, me, me, me.
01:07:19.65
Bill
Right.
01:07:27.02
Mike
Right? Sure. Sure.
01:07:30.30
Bill
Yeah. And that, that is, that's what you were talking about. You're like, cause I, you know, I, I remember thinking, I'm like, I don't know. I feel like I don't want to judge them for just, you know, being done. They thought they had done everything that they could.
01:07:38.58
Mike
right
01:07:40.14
Bill
And then you're like, no, fuck it.
01:07:40.63
Mike
sure
01:07:42.02
Bill
Let's judge them. And I'm like, like, okay, bring it on. Where's your where your thoughts? And that's what it was.
01:07:46.20
Mike
Yeah.
01:07:46.75
Bill
is the fact that there now I didn't need that podcast. I don't need any podcast, including this one, you know, to to stay sober.
01:07:51.16
Mike
Right. Yeah.
01:07:54.15
Bill
um But this is a piece of my recovery.
01:07:54.23
Mike
Right.
01:07:56.19
Bill
What you and I do here is a it's a big slice of my recovery because it's it occupies a lot of my time.
01:07:59.90
Mike
Right.
01:08:01.91
Bill
This this podcast keeps me. What do they always say? It keeps you know like going to a meeting or, you know, keeps you shit in the middle of the what do you say?
01:08:08.57
Mike
Yeah.
01:08:09.69
Bill
keep Middle bed.
01:08:10.62
Mike
Middle of the bed.
01:08:10.81
Bill
You know, so, and that's what this helps keep me in the middle of my recovery, you know, because I can't, I can't help myself.
01:08:11.34
Mike
Right.
01:08:15.26
Mike
Yes.
01:08:17.54
Bill
I, I have to, if, if we want, like you just said, and I'm glad you put it that way in order to get the rewards because they are and the results that we want, whether they be the results of our podcast growth, the results of whatever, or the results we get just being, you know, doing this and being good human beings.
01:08:25.32
Mike
Uh-huh. Right?
01:08:31.10
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:08:34.54
Bill
Um, this shit's gotta to happen every day, you know?
01:08:34.55
Mike
Yep.
01:08:37.48
Mike
Yeah.
01:08:37.71
Bill
And I, it's not really that hard. I've got it down to, you know, a schedule and and all that sort of thing about when I post and what I post.
01:08:40.65
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:08:44.95
Bill
And if I don't, I I've lightened up on weekends.
01:08:45.35
Mike
Yep.
01:08:47.59
Bill
I post very little on weekends because fuck them, you know?
01:08:49.55
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah, right?
01:08:51.26
Bill
And I'm like, I'm like, that's, that got to the point where I'm like, I'm out in the middle of fucking nowhere. I'm not going to sit there and try to, you know, wait 10 minutes. Cause I'm in the middle of the fucking woods trying to get a, you know, of, you know, our, our podcast posted to look like Jesus Christ.
01:08:59.83
Mike
Yeah.
01:09:03.11
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:09:04.07
Bill
No, I want to go walk into woods, you know?
01:09:05.56
Mike
Yes.
01:09:06.39
Bill
So fuck everyone else.
01:09:07.42
Mike
Yes.
01:09:08.04
Bill
That's I need that, you know.
01:09:08.60
Mike
Yeah. Yes.
01:09:09.56
Bill
um But so that keeps me in that. But no, there's no other podcast out there, like i said, including this one that I need to to stay sober. But I enjoy certain things.
01:09:18.18
Mike
Right.
01:09:20.36
Bill
So, um you know, this one that just that just went away a couple of years ago, there were a lot of people out there that I know for a fact because of what they said, you know, that they were getting the feedback that that was a big part of people's recovery.
01:09:20.92
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
01:09:32.39
Bill
I know that's the way for others.
01:09:32.63
Mike
Yeah.
01:09:33.83
Bill
I don't know what people use us in that way. If people do, I mean, that that's almost more responsibility than I even want to think about.
01:09:36.59
Mike
Mm-hmm. you're Right?
01:09:41.06
Bill
I don't want to be responsible necessarily for somebody's recovery. If you feel like we are in any way, somebody listening, just please use us as a piece of, because we don't need, we don't need that. Yeah.
01:09:50.93
Mike
Right. Well, and and exactly.
01:09:53.37
Bill
yeah
01:09:53.81
Mike
And um and as Bob used to say all the time, it's an inside job and we're not inside you.
01:09:58.04
Bill
Right.
01:09:59.13
Mike
Right. and listen yeah Well, you were in your ears and maybe in your head, but yeah, that's it.
01:10:01.46
Bill
but ah Well, wait, what's our, what's our, what's our female breakdown again?
01:10:10.39
Mike
Yeah, exactly. We may as much as we want to be inside you were not.
01:10:13.34
Bill
yeah
01:10:21.02
Bill
if yeah I'm just going to leave it at that. Fuck it, man.
01:10:24.80
Mike
yelp
01:10:26.94
Bill
I may have to cut that piece out. That'll cause you too much fucking work.
01:10:29.22
Mike
I
01:10:30.72
Bill
What did she say? I don't know what you said anymore.
01:10:32.78
Mike
don't either.
01:10:32.82
Bill
But she's going to want to be inside you. We're not. Okay, shh. Anyhow. But so I ran across those other podcasts that i that I listened to and a couple weeks ago.
01:10:42.14
Mike
in he
01:10:43.35
Bill
And I just went, I'm like, oh, that's kind of weird. It was on a particular day that I listened to it. And, you know, it's a manageable time for me to listen to this particular podcast.
01:10:47.19
Mike
Sure.
01:10:50.71
Bill
um You know, so I listened to it.
01:10:51.25
Mike
Right.
01:10:52.27
Bill
You know, it's not a Joe Rogan that's three hours long that I had to listen to over, you know, four fucking days. um
01:10:57.05
Mike
Right.
01:10:57.78
Bill
But I, but I can't, I do that at certain times, but anyhow, so it was gone. I'm like, well that's kind of weird. So the next, the next week I listened to it and the, the individual, You know, and said that, oh, you know, we, yeah, we, that's why we, they, they brought it up like halfway in the, in the middle of maybe halfway into the podcast.
01:11:12.28
Bill
Like, oh yeah, by the way, you know, it's out of town and I had this and that, there was a volleyball thing or whatever, whatever this thing was, it was planned.
01:11:18.81
Mike
Right. Yeah.
01:11:19.28
Bill
And then I'm like, it was planned and you didn't do the episode.
01:11:19.88
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:11:23.79
Bill
And it, and again, that it's, it's them. they They do what they do, you know?
01:11:29.02
Mike
Right.
01:11:29.12
Bill
Okay.
01:11:29.66
Mike
Sure.
01:11:29.72
Bill
Anyone's going to do what they do, but I, I part of it. I, maybe I take back and just, okay, well you do what you do, but we're also going to do what we do. We, we plan for these things because you don't, so now on, on what, two weeks from today, um the 17th, we're going to be sitting in, in an auditorium watching, you know, the, the shuffle documentary.
01:11:36.66
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
01:11:45.39
Mike
Right. A theater.
01:11:47.32
Bill
Yes.
01:11:48.75
Mike
No, they're down in Playhouse Square.
01:11:48.85
Bill
Yes.
01:11:50.55
Mike
We're going to Playhouse Square for the showing of this.
01:11:52.41
Bill
Right. Right.
01:11:53.09
Mike
Yeah.
01:11:53.32
Bill
Yeah. Yeah. what did i What did I say?
01:11:54.11
Mike
Theater.
01:11:55.44
Bill
What did I say? Auditory?
01:11:56.27
Mike
Auditorium. Cafeteria. Uh-huh.
01:11:59.32
Bill
Yeah. I was trying to play it down little bit, you know, it but no, so it would be in a nice theater watching a wonderful documentary again.
01:12:04.82
Mike
Yes. Mm-hmm.
01:12:07.26
Bill
um You know, so that's a Friday night. And so I'm guessing that we're go to record either Wednesday or Thursday, but we're going plan for that, you know, and and we've done it.
01:12:12.63
Mike
Right. Yes.
01:12:15.42
Bill
I mean, we've we've recorded it again, trying to think about this. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, we've recorded. I don't know if we've done it on a Sunday or Monday, but we didn't we record Tuesday?
01:12:22.09
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:12:25.50
Mike
Yeah, i think we did at one point.
01:12:25.69
Bill
one Like recent?
01:12:26.86
Mike
Yeah.
01:12:27.22
Bill
I think just in the last couple of months, I think we had to for some stupid fucking reason.
01:12:28.15
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Right.
01:12:31.32
Bill
So um I don't know because people expect, again, let me read again what Al said. I look forward to our episodes every Saturday.
01:12:35.58
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:12:38.60
Bill
Now, and do do people, once again, do they expect it?
01:12:38.71
Mike
Right.
01:12:42.37
Bill
do Do people need it? Whatever. But people realize that we record or we release an episode every fucking Saturday. If we don't, if something happens like that one week when ah everything got glitched, then, you know, we post it all over to God damn place.
01:12:49.34
Mike
Right.
01:12:53.21
Mike
okay
01:12:55.25
Bill
we We can't.
01:12:55.38
Mike
Right.
01:12:56.05
Bill
We can't post an episode this week.
01:12:56.47
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
01:12:57.61
Bill
You know?
01:12:57.82
Mike
ah Accountability, man.
01:12:59.93
Bill
Yeah.
01:13:00.02
Mike
You know, again, it's practicing these principles in all of our affairs, even this goddamn clown show.
01:13:04.06
Bill
Right. Right.
01:13:06.81
Mike
Right. Exactly.
01:13:07.51
Bill
Right.
01:13:08.05
Mike
Yes. Consistency and in and accountability. These are important things that, yeah. Fuck. and And we're supposedly sober, right? We're not mature, but we're sober. And as sober men, we fucking, yes, this is what we do, man. Right. Not just a la la la la. You know, I mean look at Marin. I mean, he was like, yes, I'm ending the podcast and he he took him months to do it. but he But he did it that way for a reason. And I'm assuming this is an assumption, but I'm assuming he did it because he was practicing a principle in his affair. He was like, yes, I, you know, I need to let people know this is what's happening. I'm winding it down. I asked him ending this thing, but I'm giving you plenty of notice.
01:13:51.45
Mike
because that's what we fucking do. You know, we say we're going to show up, you know, he said he was going to show up every Tuesday and Thursday, and he did for, you know, what, 16 years, something like that.
01:14:03.36
Mike
Yeah, right. And then, you know, and then when he wasn't going to be doing that anymore, he let people know, hey, I'm not going to be doing this anymore. I'll still be around. I'll still be doing this. I see him You know, ah pop up on Facebook and stuff, and I know it's Instagram and all that.
01:14:17.88
Mike
um You know, yeah, he'll throw up a video every once in a while, just, hey, this is what's up, you know.
01:14:18.15
Bill
Right.
01:14:23.41
Mike
um Yeah, fuck, man. Accountability, responsibility, fuck. Do it.
01:14:29.87
Bill
Right. Yeah. And that's, ah and that's the thing we've, we've been very clear about that, that, uh, you know, when, whenever it happens, I mean, there, there will probably, unless, you know, I think the only way that this would or would have, you know, ended abruptly, if I mean, it could have ended back in October, you know, like you said, you're like, i don't know how to fucking do this thing.
01:14:44.57
Mike
Yes, right.
01:14:47.96
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:14:48.00
Bill
Yeah.
01:14:48.48
Mike
Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't know how to put out an episode. I would certainly, you know, put on some social media stuff. Hey, Bill dropped dead. ah So I guess the fucking podcast is over.
01:14:59.67
Bill
okay Yeah, you know it but again, I mean, again, we know enough people and whatever you could, if you wanted to get an episode up, you probably could. I don't think you'd want to, it doesn't sound like you'd want to continue doing this on your own anyhow, but I don't know that I would either, you know?
01:15:07.45
Mike
Yeah.
01:15:10.74
Mike
No. Right.
01:15:13.14
Bill
um but But the whole point is that, um like you said, and I'm glad you put it that way, and I... ah i I enjoy the podcast. I enjoy the individuals that I'm, you know, the podcast that I'm talking about.
01:15:22.73
Mike
Mm hmm.
01:15:23.82
Bill
I just, it bothers me when sober people just, it it was nonchalant. Like, yeah, you know, it's, hey, was, you know, this was just whatever.
01:15:27.86
Mike
Well.
01:15:29.98
Bill
This is, this is whatever it is and whatever the type of thing.
01:15:32.54
Mike
Mm hmm.
01:15:32.98
Bill
And ah I'm like, I know that's not, that's not the way this fucking should be, you know?
01:15:35.74
Mike
Yeah, it's not what we do. Right. And, and, um, I mean, you know, in, in real life, when a sober person, here's my air quotes of the episode, a sober person just drops off and doesn't show up and we don't know what we know what fucking happened.
01:15:44.57
Bill
ah
01:15:52.18
Mike
And, um, yeah, you know, um, I, I,
01:15:52.64
Bill
Right.
01:15:55.42
Mike
for whatever, again, the responsibility or accountability or however you want to fucking put it for this thing. Um, you know, I don't want people out there going, well, fuck they relapse. What the hell happened? You know?
01:16:06.20
Mike
Yeah. oh If I relapse, I'll let you know. I'll get on. Hey, Bill, this my last episode. Cause I'm fucking hammered.
01:16:15.99
Bill
Yeah, but I mean, this this is, we've been clear about this, even though this is, you know, clearly, we have to say it again. We don't have to say it again. is that It's not an AA podcast, not AA sanction, whatever.
01:16:24.47
Mike
Nope.
01:16:25.43
Bill
But we consider this to be, this is a part of our recovery. You know, it's a part of our program.
01:16:28.71
Mike
Yep.
01:16:29.83
Bill
And it's, ah you know, it's a it's the same thing as if we, well, you do have a service commitment every week, you know, and if you're not going to, if you're not going to be able to make it, I mean, you don't just not show up, right?
01:16:30.09
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:16:35.58
Mike
Right.
01:16:38.64
Mike
Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah.
01:16:40.40
Bill
Yeah.
01:16:40.64
Mike
No, no. let's say Hey, man, I'm not going to be there this week because, you know, I'm going to Indiana to hang out with some people.
01:16:47.67
Bill
Right. yeah
01:16:48.37
Mike
I mean, and technically I could probably be back, but I don't want to. I don't want to push myself.
01:16:52.26
Bill
Right.
01:16:53.56
Mike
So, yeah, no, it's it's my position is handled for this week.
01:16:57.70
Bill
Right.
01:16:58.32
Mike
And you bet your ass I'll be there the following week.
01:17:02.46
Bill
Yeah. And I don't know. So, so it is. it and And again, I mean, we, we don't do a lot of things, you know, by whatever, you know, again, here's my air quotes again, you know, rules or whatever these podcasts fucking rules are, but you know, we do have a, and I'm proud of the fact that we have these, you know, these things that are embedded in us, these things that we've learned.
01:17:10.22
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:17:19.38
Bill
um and These are the things that I'm, that I'm really proud of.
01:17:19.70
Mike
Yep.
01:17:21.82
Bill
I don't, neither one of us, I don't think anyone does, you know, doesn't do recovery perfectly. The only thing that we've done perfectly for almost 16 years is not drink, you know, that's it We just haven't relapsed in the last 5,000-some days.
01:17:26.98
Mike
No.
01:17:31.00
Mike
Yep. Yeah.
01:17:36.09
Mike
a
01:17:36.28
Bill
other Other than that, I mean, you know, its well, whatever, you know, but we have...
01:17:37.97
Mike
o Yeah, there's been some good stuff in there too, but yeah, there's there's been some sideways shit. Absolutely.
01:17:44.50
Bill
I know. I know. And that's what I'm saying. I mean, you know, so we, let's see the, the one, the one hard thing, you know, that we have not done. We just haven't crossed that line, you know, but um I don't know.
01:17:51.48
Mike
Yep. Yep.
01:17:54.46
Bill
It just, it just is what it is. And it just, it bothered me to a point where I'm like, I'm not upset about it, but I thought, you know, this might be worth it.
01:17:59.93
Mike
ah Well, no, I mean, yes, but...
01:18:01.26
Bill
If nothing else, a conversation, you know.
01:18:02.81
Mike
Yeah, absolutely. Right. Well, yeah, it's because there we have a certain standard that we are supposed to live up to. And when people don't, we go, well what the fuck, man?
01:18:13.24
Mike
i thought you I thought you were part of this thing.
01:18:13.64
Bill
Right.
01:18:15.44
Mike
I thought this meant something. What the fuck, man? Yeah, exactly. you know and and And quite frankly, no bad examples, right?
01:18:19.89
Bill
Right.
01:18:23.34
Mike
I don't want anybody thinking that about us.
01:18:23.67
Bill
Right.
01:18:25.22
Mike
So here I am talking into a microphone on a Friday night.
01:18:28.76
Bill
Right.
01:18:29.48
Mike
Yep.
01:18:30.58
Bill
Yep, I agree. I agree 100%. Okay, cool. So we've ah now we've ranted about that.
01:18:35.38
Mike
Right.
01:18:36.25
Bill
So here's here's funny.
01:18:36.34
Mike
Right.
01:18:37.05
Bill
I heard this. This was kind of interesting. I heard this on a on a sober podcast. But the guy that they that they had on, he was at 18 years or has 18 years sober.
01:18:47.54
Mike
right
01:18:47.61
Bill
And this this is a line that I thought this was really fucking cool. He said, I can't even fathom the amount of chaos and pain that I've avoided over the last 18 years by getting sober.
01:19:01.18
Bill
And then he also said, he goes, there's no way that I can truly even appreciate it or have complete gratitude for it.
01:19:10.77
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:19:11.64
Bill
And I thought, that's fucking cool, you know?
01:19:13.93
Mike
It is.
01:19:13.98
Bill
and And I'm listening to it. And I mean, thankfully, I wasn't listening to it while I while i drove because I rewound it a couple of times. And i if that isn't word for word. It's pretty fucking close.
01:19:22.23
Mike
Right.
01:19:22.49
Bill
You know, so the same thing. Can't fathom the amount of chaos and pain he avoided in that 18 years and then just said there's just no way for him to even, um you know, truly appreciate or have complete gratitude for it.
01:19:26.49
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:19:32.66
Mike
Yeah.
01:19:32.69
Bill
And I thought about that. I'm like, there i I can't argue with that statement. I mean, I'm grateful you know for for what I've been able to do.
01:19:37.68
Mike
Mm-mm. Sure.
01:19:40.50
Bill
And I know you are too in the last you know almost 16 years.
01:19:41.78
Mike
Right.
01:19:43.50
Bill
But I mean, we there's no fucking way.
01:19:43.81
Mike
hmm.
01:19:45.74
Bill
We can't sit back and like, I'm literally, i could be grateful for everything. And I can appreciate, fuck you, you can't.
01:19:50.92
Mike
Mm hmm. Right. Well, I mean, yeah, to to the extent and the depth of the gratitude that we should have.
01:19:54.40
Bill
Right.
01:19:58.23
Bill
Right.
01:20:00.25
Mike
um
01:20:00.34
Bill
yeah Exactly. yeah
01:20:01.34
Mike
Right. yeah we Yeah. Yeah. That's fucking great, man. You know. Yeah, and the acceptance, and, you know, right. You know, it's it's okay that I can't, um you know, that I should, um but the fact that I can't shows exactly the type of person that I am, and and it's a nice reminder of the type of person I am.
01:20:12.41
Bill
Right.
01:20:22.66
Mike
Yes, tons of gratitude and all that, but not to the degree that we should. That's fucking great, man.
01:20:29.30
Bill
yeah I thought the same thing. And the guy was, I remember that. I don't remember the rest of his, you know, his, his story, but I, I don't remember if it was a great story whatever it was, but I just, I, when I heard that and literally I stopped and I'm like, man, I gotta, I got this, I gotta get like word for fucking word.
01:20:46.49
Mike
the
01:20:46.96
Bill
And this might've been again, a couple of weeks ago, cause I've been, you know, saving this stuff up since we've had guests.
01:20:48.98
Mike
Right. Sure.
01:20:50.88
Bill
But I just, I really, really liked that because I've never thought about that.
01:20:55.00
Mike
e
01:20:55.32
Bill
You know, I mean, granted you think about,
01:20:55.99
Mike
Why would we?
01:20:57.27
Bill
Well, exactly. Yeah. Cause I mean, we, we can't, we can't even, you know what I can't even appreciate or have complete gratitude. So yeah. Why would I ever think about it?
01:21:05.27
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:21:05.88
Bill
Fucking selfish and self-centered bastard.
01:21:07.62
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:21:08.20
Bill
yeah
01:21:09.26
Mike
Yeah.
01:21:10.94
Bill
I'm all good.
01:21:10.97
Mike
Yeah, look those those massive blind spots we still have.
01:21:11.34
Bill
Yeah. Things are fine.
01:21:14.61
Mike
Right.
01:21:14.78
Bill
Yeah.
01:21:15.61
Mike
hey
01:21:15.64
Bill
Yeah. Yeah. yeah i na I'm good. i am.
01:21:18.93
Mike
I am.
01:21:19.30
Bill
I'm grateful.
01:21:19.33
Mike
no yeah i'm great Yeah, exactly. I'm grateful.
01:21:21.21
Bill
Look at me.
01:21:21.81
Mike
I'm appreciative. You know, sure. yeah
01:21:24.52
Bill
Look at me. I'm dripping with gratitude.
01:21:27.13
Mike
and this is And quite frankly, we are.
01:21:29.37
Bill
Yeah.
01:21:30.45
Mike
you know, comparatively and all that, yes, we are.
01:21:30.84
Bill
I know. I know. Right.
01:21:33.13
Mike
But it's still not enough. That's a fucking wonderful way to look at it.
01:21:35.38
Bill
right
01:21:37.41
Mike
Yeah.
01:21:37.53
Bill
if
01:21:38.58
Mike
Yeah.
01:21:40.57
Bill
ah But anyhow, I thought that I thought that was funny. I want to keep that on the sheet for a while just to maybe re revisit that every once in a while.
01:21:45.18
Mike
Yeah. Right. Uh-huh.
01:21:47.29
Bill
But I really I really like that one. So a couple of quick things. Speaking of podcasts, i I had in I don't remember even how it came up on. It came up on something that that I had because I, you know, I do searches on on us every once in a while just to see if we've hit anything interesting or fun.
01:22:03.67
Bill
You know, so just doing like sober, not mature, blah, blah, blah. And I think it was on some sort of list or whatever.
01:22:06.14
Mike
right
01:22:09.15
Bill
Or maybe I asked it as far as a list of our popular episodes, you know, because I get again, whatever it was, doesn't matter.
01:22:12.82
Mike
uha
01:22:15.47
Bill
So episode 26 was one that was pointed out. That was the the one that we did. ah Those are six month episode.
01:22:25.02
Mike
okay
01:22:25.21
Bill
That was the one where shooting our wad into the wind. That's that was the that was that episode.
01:22:27.99
Mike
ah
01:22:29.69
Bill
But I mean, we we talked about, um you know, the podcast up until that point, whatever.
01:22:29.78
Mike
okay
01:22:33.61
Bill
And I think that's why I got picked out is because it was like, you know, kind of a gratitude type of thing. And also we talked about the podcast in the past and blah, blah, blah. ah But it was interesting. I mean, the episode okay. I mean, it it is what it is.
01:22:43.76
Bill
It's just us talking about, you know, kind of the the fact that you didn't care.
01:22:44.15
Mike
right
01:22:46.76
Bill
I cared a little bit. We're talking about some whatever. But then here's the funny part, though. When it was done, just, and I was driving. I was i listened to it when I went up to Wisconsin for Ali's party. And it so it just automatically popped into another one of our episodes, which was episode 12, okay?
01:23:02.46
Mike
Okay.
01:23:03.13
Bill
So 26, we were already on Riverside.
01:23:05.66
Mike
Right.
01:23:05.92
Bill
And 12, we were not. Okay.
01:23:08.02
Mike
Aha.
01:23:09.14
Bill
And it opened up, I'm like, oh, I'll just listen this for a few minutes. I i turned it off after like 10 minutes because I'm like, this fucking audio it's is fucking terrible.
01:23:11.77
Mike
Yeah. Yes. Mm-hmm.
01:23:16.42
Bill
um But I mean, we we couldn't do anything about it because, and again, the the difference between um the same thing as we are talking now, the fact that we can both talk at the same time, literally we can, we have the ability to talk over each other if we'd like.
01:23:16.63
Mike
yes
01:23:30.55
Mike
Sure,
01:23:30.94
Bill
Yeah.
01:23:31.42
Mike
Right.
01:23:32.06
Bill
Or at least you're in the background and I am but blah, blah, blah. This was just, I mean, there was a couple of that. I'm like, what did you say? were virginia And you you did the same thing. You're like, huh? Because the these things were getting cut off.
01:23:43.64
Bill
I'm like, God, it was it was fucking painful. Just fucking painful. And Ollie's birthday party, just as i I have a note to do, a recap on that. There was nothing out of the ordinary you know with this birthday party.
01:23:54.94
Bill
It was just really, it was a lot of fun. um
01:23:56.82
Mike
right
01:23:57.53
Bill
Obviously, the you know my my newest grandchild was there. He was he was able to make it.
01:24:01.33
Mike
Mm-hmm. He showed up, did he? Didn't he have some other things going on?
01:24:04.06
Bill
yeah I was just kind of surprised. I don't know. He's just... i mean for like He's a lazy fuck. i mean All he does is sit around and you know fucking eats and sleeps and shits all day.
01:24:09.17
Mike
Nice. Mm-hmm. yes
01:24:11.98
Bill
so I didn't know if he was going to show up.
01:24:14.01
Mike
nice
01:24:14.08
Bill
but um It was just kind of funny because the entire time and i um I didn't try to... cause I hadn't seen him that much. I saw him you know the one day. you know whatever but
01:24:21.53
Mike
e
01:24:22.33
Bill
mean All these different people who hadn't seen him. But it was after all said and done, everyone left. and i got to you know I got to hang with him and hold him. I fed him for a little bit for... I don't know, like an hour, a half hour, 45 minutes or whatever it was, maybe close to that timeframe.
01:24:31.33
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
01:24:34.34
Bill
So it was just nice. And Ali had a great time. And it was at this place where they had playground equipment, like ah did they would sell to schools and stuff like that size playground equipment. But I mean, it's all another big trampoline in there a whole bit.
01:24:45.75
Mike
Right.
01:24:46.33
Bill
These fucking playground equipments. I mean, do you have any, any, can you fathom how much any of these things cost? I mean, any even rough idea, like a
01:24:54.23
Mike
um I mean, yeah, probably, i don't know, like a set of monkey bars is probably like 10 grand or some shit.
01:25:00.54
Bill
So there was this one that had, you know, your typical one you'd see at at a park. nothing Nothing really out of the ordinary, but good size. About, you know, the like as big as your living room type of thing, probably the whole bit with a slide or two on there.
01:25:07.65
Mike
Wow.
01:25:12.54
Bill
Climb up, little flat spot, whatever.
01:25:12.68
Mike
Good.
01:25:14.30
Bill
Like, I mean, $25,000 on sale.
01:25:17.12
Mike
Yup.
01:25:17.75
Bill
Normally like $40,000.
01:25:18.07
Mike
ah
01:25:19.43
Bill
I'm looking at these things, I'm like, you fucking are you fucking kidding me?
01:25:20.79
Mike
wow serious
01:25:23.35
Bill
But um it was a lot of fun. We had we had a really, really good time.
01:25:26.39
Mike
good
01:25:26.68
Bill
um I had, where's the other one little thing I had? Oh, yeah, yeah. Okay, so I got a couple of, because we're getting kind of close to the to the ending part here, which is your favorite time.
01:25:34.14
Mike
you know Mm-hmm.
01:25:36.73
Bill
um Okay, one this is just this is a this is a bit, kind of like a bits and pieces type of thing. I saw this quote. in sand This was on, i don't know, Instagram or fucking Facebook or something.
01:25:46.30
Mike
right.
01:25:47.51
Bill
Insanity is hating one side of the government than thinking the other side is wonderful and on your side.
01:25:52.57
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:25:53.91
Bill
That's it. That was all that was it that was a tidbit.
01:25:54.87
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
01:25:56.19
Bill
It said that could be said for anything.
01:25:56.43
Mike
yeah yeah
01:25:57.99
Bill
And it's nothing to do with the government. Really, it could be anyone, you know, thinking that this person is great. That person's not that type of thing.
01:26:03.51
Mike
Right.
01:26:03.91
Bill
But I just thought I just thought it was fucking funny. um Did you hear about Frontier Airlines, the lady that got kicked off the plane for not listening? Okay.
01:26:15.02
Bill
So this is again, kind of a tidbit thing. This frontier airlines. Not that it really, really matters. Um, but one of the, uh, one of the flight attendants was whatever the lady was doing. Um, I don't know if she wasn't, you know, maybe getting ready for, they were getting ready to take off or whatever the case was. It was something that, that, that she wasn't, this lady wasn't listening to. So this, uh, this flight attendant was obviously, I mean, yelling at her, did whatever, whatever. Finally, um, you know, like had the, was having the lady removed, right?
01:26:40.50
Bill
And the the lady was hearing impaired.
01:26:43.16
Mike
ah Ah. Yep. Right.
01:26:45.72
Bill
So I'm like, I'm like, that's, that's the whoops part of it. Right. But then as, as all is all said and done, um then this other part of the story comes up.
01:26:48.60
Mike
yeah
01:26:53.94
Bill
This is so, so what they're doing, they begin with the the way the first, our first article that I read, then was like, this a denum article is article. It's just about, you know, Frontier Airlines. They fucked up. The lady's hearing impaired. She's not listening, blah, blah, blah.
01:27:05.15
Bill
So I'm like, well, that's fucking terrible. Right. Well, as it turns out, one of the things she wasn't listening to was she brought alcohol on board. Okay.
01:27:15.25
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:27:15.42
Bill
So she had like, I don't know whether there's a half a pint or something. And the, um, the individual, uh, you know, the flight attendant, that was one of the things that it was something else. But then that also like, you can't have that. Like, you know, you need to, um, you know, you need to get, get rid of that.
01:27:28.34
Bill
You need to hand that over. You need to, you know, that's gotta be put away.
01:27:30.01
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:27:31.46
Bill
you You've got, or no, they, they said you gotta get rid of it. So she's like, okay, I'll get rid of it.
01:27:34.19
Mike
Yeah.
01:27:36.28
Bill
She fucking drank it. She fucking drank it.
01:27:38.20
Mike
Right.
01:27:38.92
Bill
And I'm like, genius. Fucking genius.
01:27:41.56
Mike
Yep.
01:27:43.66
Bill
Then I'm like, I'm like such such bad reporting to begin with, you know, just, okay. I don't, I agree frontier. Maybe, you know, they should have, you know, a little bit better at the lady was hearing impaired. But if that's the other reason I'm calling that a wash, that's a, that's a wash.
01:27:55.67
Mike
Yeah.
01:27:56.16
Bill
And in my opinion, you know, she's sitting there fucking genius though. You got to get rid of that. You can have that. Okay. I'll get, I'll get rid of it.
01:28:03.35
Mike
Okay. Yeah. I think I may have pulled that move once or twice.
01:28:08.06
Bill
You know, in in the funny, here's the funny part. I was going to ask you, have you ever done anything like that? Then I almost, I almost forgot.
01:28:14.94
Mike
Right.
01:28:15.58
Bill
So you have literally.
01:28:16.89
Mike
yeah Yeah, it sounds familiar. You know, yeah, you got to get rid of that. Okay.
01:28:23.32
Mike
Yeah.
01:28:24.57
Bill
ah No, it's just, I think that's just fucking wonderful. It's just fucking beautiful.
01:28:28.41
Mike
is
01:28:29.27
Bill
Absolutely fucking beautiful. Okay. One, one more wrap up story. Did you hear about the, the guy in Florida that ended up driving onto to an airport?
01:28:38.78
Mike
No.
01:28:38.97
Bill
or runway. Okay. Um, whatever this hit Florida man, this is a Florida man.
01:28:42.39
Mike
Florida, man.
01:28:45.10
Bill
one This is so fucking perfect though. Um, whatever the sheriff's office released body camp footage of a man's arrest at Daytona beach airport after he allegedly I love the allegedly part all the time, which is so fucking great.
01:28:55.29
Mike
if You're
01:28:57.18
Bill
I know they got to do it, but anyhow. So allegedly drove his Mustang through a gate and across an active taxiway before bailing and attempting to board three small planes.
01:29:05.45
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:29:08.68
Bill
Okay. Now, before I go into this, now it's it's it's a guy in a Mustang. um He's drunk, drives onto an airport. You already heard that part you know about him trying to get onto the airport or on the airplanes.
01:29:18.27
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm. Yes.
01:29:20.83
Bill
And three of them, three of them, no less. How old do you think this gentleman was?
01:29:25.62
Mike
I mean, you know. um I'm going to go ahead and say he was like 52. Yeah.
01:29:34.65
Bill
You know what? I thought you would gone younger, but yeah, 58, 58 years old.
01:29:36.50
Mike
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:29:38.21
Bill
Okay. So Brian J. Parker, 58 of Holy Hill.
01:29:44.09
Mike
Holy hill, Batman.
01:29:45.69
Bill
Yeah. There's a Holy Hill in Wisconsin. That's just kind of funny. never read that part before, but okay. Was arrested on several charges, including aircraft piracy, burglary, indecent exposure, criminal mischief, DUI, and where's the end part?
01:30:01.94
Bill
Anyhow. Uh, deputy said Parker nearly hit a student, a training plane that was on the taxiway, airport itself, entire incident, roughly only four minutes, blah, blah, blah. So, um, here's, here's the thing.
01:30:12.98
Bill
So the officers go up and they have this on video, but, um, then I, they obviously have the the writing part of it or the actual text of it. So they asked the guy like, so, you know, kind like what, what's your deal, dude?
01:30:23.62
Bill
You know, what's, what's going on here.
01:30:23.96
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:30:25.06
Bill
And he said, this is his words. I don't remember. I was at my house.
01:30:28.81
Mike
Oh.
01:30:30.01
Bill
I went to an AA meeting.
01:30:31.90
Mike
Oh.
01:30:33.08
Bill
and Next thing I know, I'm doing cocaine, drinking, and smoking pot.
01:30:37.40
Mike
Oh.
01:30:39.54
Bill
ah As he sat on the ground in the planes nearby, told him he was at his house, attended an AA meeting, and then, yeah, next thing he knew, he was doing cocaine, drinking, smoking pot. Uh, then he said he crashed his car, which another deputy pointed out, uh, was still at the airport.
01:30:53.75
Bill
Um, uh, yeah, deputies, blah, blah, blah, this, that, the other, nothing about that. But yeah, so he, uh, he went to the fucking AA meeting and then literally decided that after the AA meeting, just got fucking lit up and went to, I mean, I'm like, okay,
01:31:08.60
Mike
hu
01:31:10.83
Bill
that's ah probably not a good example of, uh, you know, of ah what happens at an a day meeting.
01:31:13.82
Mike
Right.
01:31:15.15
Bill
It was,
01:31:15.16
Mike
Well, yeah. And um I don't know. i He may have been lying about that part, too. You know, right.
01:31:21.78
Bill
Yeah, that's true.
01:31:22.75
Mike
You know, you because I mean, that that sounds to me.
01:31:22.82
Bill
That's true.
01:31:25.51
Mike
This is just me. Right. But, you know, been around a little. Got some problems. Been to a few meetings. Right. Kind of know yeah a little bit. Yeah. Tell the cop.
01:31:33.66
Bill
oh
01:31:34.44
Mike
Yeah. Tell the cop. Cause you know, Hey, well, at least he's trying, right? Yeah. That's you know, while you're all lit up, I could, I could see my twisted brain doing something like that. Well, I went to an AA meeting, but yeah so I'm trying. So don't come down on me too hard.
01:31:52.50
Bill
You know what? That's a, that's a goddamn good point. I never thought of that.
01:31:54.81
Mike
See, I can still think like an alcoholic.
01:31:56.22
Bill
Cause you know, you know,
01:31:58.37
Mike
Hey, because I am still an alcoholic.
01:32:00.54
Bill
no, and it's, ah you know, wait, you're, you didn't go to Malibu. you know You're not cured.
01:32:05.40
Mike
mo No, no, no, no.
01:32:05.86
Bill
they're cur
01:32:07.39
Mike
I've been to Malibu, but not for that reason.
01:32:08.22
Bill
okay But, you know, I never, and never even thought about that, that, yeah, but, you know, ah how fucked up? Yeah, because, you know, how fucked up are we thinking that, oh, yeah, this could, this could actually help my, help my case, help my, yeah you know, my, my situation if I tell them, I was, how was at a meeting though.
01:32:17.77
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:32:21.05
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:32:23.83
Mike
Yep. Yep.
01:32:27.38
Bill
yeah But it was it was so funny. They were – because, I mean, the the morning show I listen to, they're – I mean, theyre I'm guessing here, but based on the way that they talk and and whatever, i I don't see any of them as having a problem with drugs or alcohol.
01:32:36.18
Mike
hi
01:32:39.70
Mike
Right.
01:32:39.95
Bill
But, I mean, the one of them said they're like, like so he's at AA meeting. youre like, yeah. Like, um you think maybe he should try a different meeting?
01:32:44.12
Mike
this is
01:32:47.36
Bill
Yeah.
01:32:47.58
Mike
yeah Right.
01:32:49.88
Bill
Maybe AA is not for him or you know should he shop around and find a different meeting? I was kind of laughing at all that stuff you know because they weren't being they weren't being disrespectful. They were just you know being yuckety-yuckety morning show hosts.
01:32:58.97
Mike
Right.
01:33:01.59
Bill
But it it actually it it did but it did make me laugh, though.
01:33:02.60
Mike
Waka waka.
01:33:06.39
Bill
But, you know, goddammit, that's a really good point.
01:33:09.08
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:33:09.63
Bill
I'm glad.
01:33:09.68
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:33:10.03
Bill
You know, see, there there's a lot of ways.
01:33:10.06
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:33:12.31
Bill
We've said this a hundred times also probably.
01:33:14.10
Mike
easy
01:33:15.51
Bill
There's more than one reason why there's two of us, why it takes, it literally takes two of us to do this podcast.
01:33:17.94
Mike
have see
01:33:21.11
Bill
And that's an example there because, you know, one of us would off going boo with their thoughts. And everyone's like, no, it was this. You're like, God damn it. Really? Holy shit.
01:33:29.43
Mike
a
01:33:32.50
Bill
So, so thank you. Thank you for being that guy. I was the guy going boo.
01:33:35.03
Mike
ah yeah a
01:33:37.05
Bill
And, uh, you know, you, you put me back in, uh, put me back in place. So, all right. Well, um, I, I don't know, man, I think, uh, I think we're good. I think we're done. I think we're, unless you got more.
01:33:45.56
Mike
I think so. Yes.
01:33:47.42
Bill
you want to, you want to a little bit more are you good?
01:33:48.76
Mike
Now, you know what?
01:33:50.24
Bill
don't
01:33:51.12
Mike
I'm going to see your ass tomorrow, so I think we're good with this.
01:33:53.34
Bill
know. All right, then, then you know what? It's, it's your turn, I guess.
01:33:58.14
Mike
All right. Well, thank you, everyone, for listening to yet another episode of Sober Not Mature. always, be kind to each other, be good to each other, go out and do something nice for somebody else this week, and don't tell anybody you did it.
01:34:13.40
Mike
Now, from the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul, from the beginning of time until the ends of the earth, always and eternally, fuck you.
01:34:26.26
Mike
Now it's time. Oh, it's time. It's time for you to fuck off. Then keep fucking off. Keep fucking off till you get to a gate with a sign on it saying, you cannot fuck off past here.
01:34:42.42
Mike
Climb over that gate. Dream the impossible dream. And keep fucking off forever.
01:34:49.66
Bill
Yes.
01:34:51.13
Mike
Yes.
01:34:51.96
Bill
And everyone, know yeah, have a have a happy Easter too. You know, if you, yeah, zombie Jesus, there you go.
01:34:54.36
Mike
Yeah, yeah. Happy zombie Jesus day.
01:34:58.78
Bill
I couldn't remember what your thing was. So just real quick side note there. I saw your your picture. Is that supposed to be you in the bunny costume?
01:35:03.77
Mike
ah What this me?
01:35:07.00
Bill
Well, I know, but I looked at it because i I'm used to seeing your – you usually post Lemmy, right, in the bunny?
01:35:12.15
Mike
Yeah, I usually do.
01:35:12.82
Bill
Okay.
01:35:13.63
Mike
Yep.
01:35:13.72
Bill
And I'm like, i'm like okay, because I'm looking at I'm like, okay, so he got creative. He did the AI thing. He did that. But then I'm like like, wait a second. Is that supposed to be – because Lemmy – I'm like, well, AI kind of fucks up images to begin with, you know, a little bit.
01:35:27.38
Bill
So i'm like, was that supposed to be him?
01:35:27.58
Mike
Yeah.
01:35:28.94
Bill
Was that supposed to be Lemmy? One way or the other, I think it's funny. I like it. You know, but –
01:35:32.74
Mike
No, I uploaded a picture of me and I said, make me the Easter bunny.
01:35:37.85
Bill
flipping, flipping people off.
01:35:39.42
Mike
Yes. Well, the picture it was of me flipping off, so it just...
01:35:42.49
Bill
Oh, okay. So it just did that.
01:35:43.51
Mike
Yeah.
01:35:44.29
Bill
Okay.
01:35:44.50
Mike
Yeah.
01:35:44.65
Bill
Okay.
01:35:45.24
Mike
i said i I simply typed in, make me the Easter bunny.
01:35:49.08
Bill
Did you use, when you do that, do you use ChatGPT?
01:35:53.27
Mike
Yeah.
01:35:54.17
Bill
Okay. So in, in just from what I've, from what I've learned, I've not used the, whatever the thing Claude is. I've never used that. I've read up on all these different things, figuring out what's what.
01:36:03.43
Mike
Yeah.
01:36:03.76
Bill
Gemini is a Google one. I use that for all my questions. I've been using it for this whole business thing that we've been doing. um Because basically what Gemini does, you know I mean, Gemini is Google, you know and Google is the the best at all that stuff.
01:36:09.24
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:36:14.33
Mike
Right.
01:36:16.18
Bill
you know So I'm like, well, what's the difference between a Google search and you know this Gemini stuff? A Google search that says it just gives you that overview and a link, you know links to whatever. Whereas Gemini and what these what these AI bots do is they they search fucking everything, search and scroll everything.
01:36:25.97
Mike
Right.
01:36:32.21
Bill
And they give you literally curated information in ah in a tangible form. Yeah.
01:36:36.60
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:36:36.81
Bill
So um again, all this stuff is Google stuff. So theoretically, if you want true information, Gemini, but you want to talk about fucking horrible pictures. Oh, Gemini couldn't Gemini couldn't make a nice fucking picture if you fucking paid it.
01:36:51.69
Mike
All right.
01:36:52.41
Bill
Terrible. Chat GPT, perfect. But if you notice, I have sunglasses on almost all of our pictures because our eyes look all fucked up half the time. Or you, thing as your Funko and all sorts of things.
01:37:01.71
Mike
Right.
01:37:06.89
Bill
There's no question whatsoever. Even if you will look a little fucked up in the AI version, it's you. There's no doubt.
01:37:12.06
Mike
right
01:37:12.73
Bill
you know But me, sometimes they don't really look like me. And that sometimes the sunglasses will cover up if they if they fucked up my you know kind of my... And it doesn't take much to fuck up my features. I guess I'm just a random looking at dude anyhow.
01:37:24.61
Bill
Yeah.
01:37:24.73
Mike
Right. Regular white guy.
01:37:27.13
Bill
yeah Just some red yeah regular white suburban you know so suburban white guy. you know But whenever it was, a month or so ago when i was up there for the baby, just real quick, I was showing Brian all these pictures that was putting together. And I'm like, yeah, I said, Mike is Mike, but I'm like, me? I don't know. Sometimes then Ollie comes around he's like he's like, hey, Grandpa, that's you. I'm like, well, i guess that I guess it does look like he picked me out of a lineup. Yeah.
01:37:51.78
Bill
Anyhow. Okay. So anyhow, I like your Easter bunny. That was my point. So, all right. I will, at some point tomorrow, I will see you. And for now, for now, I love you, brother.
01:38:01.18
Mike
Love you too.
01:38:02.20
Bill
Now we will chat soon and see each other soon. Correct.
01:38:04.95
Mike
We will.
01:38:06.01
Bill
All right. Bye.
01:38:07.72
Mike
Bye.
