SoberNotMature - Episode 179 (Grabbing Snakes By The Tail)

This week we have...
More fun with Mike and Bill. Yep, it's your favorite wacky duo, back at it.
Mike started out with his reading and it was about courage and change. Becoming different people in recovery and finally accepting life, truth and consequences. It was a great topic and a good conversation.
Our friend Heidi (Episode 87) celebrated 20 years sober this week. It may not always be strawberries and orgasms, but she has done this thing for 2 decades. Congrats to her!
Mike has his radio gig coming up in a few weeks. He gave the rundown on that again, but stay tuned.
Then it was a story about a drug house apartment, optimistic or pessimistic, rushing in or taking our time, sharing our story in early recovery, Marc Maron, corn sweat and yes; Grabbing Snakes By The Tail.
A handful of celebrities died this week, but we spent a few minutes talking about Ozzy Osbourne. Everyone is posting about him and doing a ton of tributes, and we may have a slightly different take, but what else is new? It's worth the listen.
Enjoy the episode.

00:00:08.17
Bill
And what do you say we get this started off on, I'll say a happy, positive and I'll go as far as to say inspirational note. What do you say, Mike?
00:00:16.12
Mike
Wow. Well, fuck, man. Yeah, go ahead. yes.
00:00:19.89
Bill
All right. So she says it's not always strawberries and orgasms, but she's been doing this shit for 20 fucking years.
00:00:26.11
Mike
Yes. Yes. it yes
00:00:32.19
Bill
Yeah. Our friend, our friend Heidi, who is the, the author, I'll call her the author of that statement. The author creator, creator, not
00:00:37.19
Mike
yes um You know, i it's her quote.
00:00:42.11
Bill
She's the content creator of that quote. Yes.
00:00:44.17
Mike
Yes, she is
00:00:45.31
Bill
Um, but yeah, I saw that, uh, what day was that Tuesday or Wednesday, something like that. And, uh,
00:00:48.75
Mike
Mom, yeah.
00:00:50.59
Bill
I mean, i never I never know when people's anniversaries are. Sometimes I'll put them in my and my phone, but you know Facebook is is how i how I know that stuff.
00:00:53.57
Mike
Nah.
00:00:58.32
Bill
so
00:00:58.89
Mike
Yeah.
00:00:59.10
Bill
um But yeah, our our friend Heidi had hit 20 years. So the the only thing, I have a little bit of a resentment now, okay?
00:01:02.59
Mike
Yeah. Uh-oh.
00:01:06.26
Bill
Because she can now say she's got a few 24s, right? Am I correct?
00:01:09.27
Mike
ah She can, yeah.
00:01:10.38
Bill
God damn it.
00:01:11.05
Mike
Yep. Wonder how she did it.
00:01:12.28
Bill
Fucking Heidi.
00:01:13.56
Mike
Yep. Yep. Uh-huh.
00:01:14.60
Bill
Fucking Heidi. yeah
00:01:16.14
Mike
wonder how she did it
00:01:17.71
Bill
ah I don't know.
00:01:18.47
Mike
if
00:01:19.09
Bill
I've heard if we were sitting in a meeting, some old guy in the back would be, how'd you do it? Yeah, one one day at a time. One day at a time for 20 goddamn fucking years.
00:01:26.27
Mike
yep
00:01:28.03
Bill
so
00:01:28.48
Mike
yep
00:01:28.78
Bill
But seriously, no congratulations. And um we did have her on the episode. And I look back, and I normally forget to, but literally like five minutes before he came on here, um i because I wrote the note about it.
00:01:36.80
Mike
ah hu
00:01:38.88
Bill
i'm like, oh shit, let's figure out what episode it was.
00:01:41.09
Mike
yeah
00:01:41.35
Bill
So guess, guess what episode? So just curiosity, because I mean, I i would have been way fucking off.
00:01:43.44
Mike
to Jesus.
00:01:47.52
Bill
it's We're in episode 179 now. So just
00:01:49.88
Mike
Right. I mean, I'm guessing that maybe mid 40s, 50s, somewhere around there.
00:01:59.01
Bill
No, so you were you were closer than I was. I was thinking maybe it was like 60 or 70 back or something like that.
00:02:00.56
Mike
Okay. Oh.
00:02:03.00
Mike
oh Yeah.
00:02:03.73
Bill
It's 87. Was there the episode?
00:02:05.16
Mike
Okay. Well, all right.
00:02:05.80
Bill
So, I mean, well.
00:02:06.51
Mike
We're still way the fuck off.
00:02:08.38
Bill
But I mean, literally, it's a fucking hundred episodes ago. I mean, it's, you know, to basically, I'm like, God, that's been almost literally almost two years ago.
00:02:11.81
Mike
you Right. Mm-hmm.
00:02:15.42
Bill
I'm like, Jesus Christ. So, um but yeah, it just, I don't know. it was It was good to see. I mean, obviously, it's anniversaries are fun for, you know, anyone.
00:02:22.71
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:02:23.55
Bill
And I love, we both do, I know. But it's just celebrating anniversaries. But yeah, Heidi, Heidi's a good shit, wonderful friend of ours. And yeah, it was just really good. She's, and you know, if you listen to her episode, which you should, um she's got a lot going on.
00:02:36.47
Mike
Uh-huh. Yup.
00:02:38.76
Bill
And has had a lot going on for what the last, what'd she bring in the kids, seven, eight years ago?
00:02:41.03
Mike
five Yeah, right. Yeah.
00:02:45.10
Bill
Yeah. You know, so when she was, well, younger than us in sobriety, 12, 13 years, you know, she she brought on brought on a couple of, ah you know, her daughter's kids that she's been taking care of.
00:02:49.91
Mike
Yeah.
00:02:53.05
Mike
Yup.
00:02:55.03
Bill
um So she's got, she has a full life. A lot of shit.
00:02:57.66
Mike
Yup.
00:02:59.08
Bill
She's got a lot of shit going on, but she keeps that head of her straight somehow. And I don't know fucking how, but...
00:03:02.94
Mike
Yes.
00:03:05.46
Bill
But da yeah, so congratulations to her, all the all the love in the world to our friend, Heidi, right?
00:03:07.56
Mike
ye yes
00:03:10.54
Bill
Okay, good. So um I've got, you know, I was i was looking at this. I'm like, i printed off my sheets and I'm like, why the fuck do we still have four sheets? But I've got like a whole page full of like just little notes from this week.
00:03:21.86
Bill
Nothing out of the ordinary. It's almost like headlines, you know? um i mean, obviously some people died this week. I figured we'd chit-chat about that.
00:03:27.62
Mike
They did.
00:03:29.32
Bill
um I've got a story about a snake. there was a There was a post on Instagram or no, I'm sorry, on Facebook from when I moved to Wisconsin. Well, it's been 12 years ago is when the post was.
00:03:40.22
Bill
um I got to tell you about that because I think you'll laugh. You were involved in that.
00:03:43.69
Mike
right.
00:03:44.16
Bill
A little bit about mark Mark Maron, my license place, Waterfalls.
00:03:48.50
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:03:49.58
Bill
It's just a whole whole bunch of little shit. and that I'm like, okay, well, now now I know why. We made a hell of a dent last week in all the topics, but I have to stop like making little notes because it's just all over the fucking place now.
00:03:56.53
Mike
v
00:03:59.31
Mike
No. don't What else are we going to do when we get on here if you don't?
00:04:02.16
Bill
Yeah. Okay. Then there. Then I feel better. Thank you, Mike. You know, half the time I'm like, God, you know, you've even said, Jesus Christ, you fucking talk a lot, you know, and it's okay.
00:04:07.09
Mike
Sure.
00:04:12.19
Mike
yeah Yeah, right.
00:04:14.38
Bill
But, but I think, you know, I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that if, if I didn't talk a lot, it would make your job a lot harder. Right.
00:04:22.28
Mike
Oh, yeah. Definitely.
00:04:24.14
Bill
Okay. So I would just prefer you saying, thank you. And let's get out with the podcast.
00:04:26.67
Mike
All right. Well, thank you.
00:04:27.71
Bill
Okay.
00:04:28.02
Mike
Let's get on with the podcast.
00:04:29.53
Bill
I'm just fucking with you. But, uh, no, let's get onto the good stuff where you actually get to, uh, get to, to do, do some work with that, with that fucking mouth of yours and, uh, get a reading. What do you say?
00:04:42.01
Bill
That sounded terrible. wish it should have.
00:04:43.02
Mike
No, it did it sounded wonderful.
00:04:43.67
Bill
Uh,
00:04:47.84
Mike
One of my favorite things, getting to work with that mouth of mine. All right. Um,
00:04:54.84
Mike
um
00:04:54.98
Bill
ah
00:04:55.40
Mike
Yes, let me clear my throat. All right, yes, so I'm assuming you're talking about a reading.
00:05:02.63
Bill
Yes, absolutely.
00:05:03.25
Mike
okay, well, i just do want to make sure.
00:05:03.88
Bill
Absolutely. I think, well, well, you know what?
00:05:05.66
Mike
Okay.
00:05:07.01
Bill
Fuck it. Like you just said, what the hell else are we going to do out here? I don't care. Do whatever the fuck you want. I mean, it's like, like, like we have a plan.
00:05:11.70
Mike
oh Right, exactly. Well, we do sort of, we have a reading.
00:05:17.56
Bill
Right.
00:05:17.65
Mike
So let's fucking do it. um Yeah, this is from a couple days ago. Read it and went, oh, that's not bad. I think I'll put my little bookmark in there and read it on Friday. So here we fucking go ah July 23rd.
00:05:33.27
Mike
The only courage that matters is the kind that gets you from one moment to the next. Mignon McLaughlin. She was a writer, a journalist, and an author.
00:05:44.80
Mike
I did have time to look her up. All right. ah One of the gifts of recovery is that we become the people we want to be. We want our lives to reflect the new values, values like honesty, generosity, caring, and fairness.
00:06:02.16
Mike
Becoming a new person can be tricky, however, because the reality of living our new values means we have to face life in a new way. Being honest means we stop lying.
00:06:14.25
Mike
This includes even quick little fibs that don't seem to hurt anyone. Being generous means we give something up, money, time, attention, in order to give someone else.
00:06:28.38
Mike
Being fair means we accept the consequences we have earned. ah living our new Living out our new beliefs and values requires courage to face life on life's terms.
00:06:43.88
Mike
We stop the slippery behavior we have used in the past to slide past our moments of opportunity. Yes, opportunity to be the person of courage and values that we want to be.
00:06:58.70
Mike
Prayer for the day. Higher power. Please give me courage to today to stand up for what I believe and to do your will instead of looking for an easier, softer way.
00:07:10.83
Mike
Today's action. Those pesky actions. Today I will think about the day that just passed. Were there moments when i choose when I chose the easier, softer way instead of standing up for what I believe in?
00:07:24.52
Mike
What could I have done instead?
00:07:28.20
Bill
Okay. So um I do want to talk about that, you know, like choosing the easier and softer way, because obviously that's a, that's a topic we talk about a lot, but so um we've been sober for a few minutes, right?
00:07:33.29
Mike
let see
00:07:39.12
Bill
Not, not a few 24 hours yet, but a number of days, 5,000, God only knows how many, how long have we been reading God grant me?
00:07:39.70
Mike
Yeah, not a few 24 hours, but yes, a couple of minutes.
00:07:45.91
Mike
Right.
00:07:47.79
Bill
You've been reading it for probably what, 13, 14 years.
00:07:49.89
Mike
um fourteen 14. Yeah, I mean, I pretty much started, yeah right around first year, or so.
00:07:52.05
Bill
okay
00:07:54.97
Mike
Okay.
00:07:55.95
Bill
I'm probably 12, probably 12 years into it, maybe.
00:07:58.55
Mike
Okay.
00:07:59.29
Bill
Okay. So I'm reading that. probably it might even have been that reading. God only knows. But I realized as I'm reading the um the prayer for the day, it starts off higher power. I'm like, that's kind of i don't know why that I focused on the word higher power.
00:08:12.66
Bill
And I'm like, God, is every one of these prayers addressed to us? So I'm flipping ahead every prayer
00:08:18.32
Mike
Oh, yeah. though One of the reasons I picked the book up in the first place.
00:08:22.36
Bill
I, and again, i mean, how 12 years, you know, do the math in a number of days, literally within, within the last handful of days, the last four days, I just saw that every prayer starts with addresses our higher power.
00:08:25.44
Mike
Right.
00:08:31.56
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:08:35.88
Bill
I'm like, I don't know.
00:08:36.29
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:08:37.85
Bill
It it's meaningless, but I'm like, how the fuck did I never really, I don't know that I, that weird.
00:08:39.91
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:08:42.59
Bill
It's just weird.
00:08:43.41
Mike
Right. Yeah. Well, I mean, yeah. Yeah. You know, well, first of all, we're doing it early in the morning, so we're not fully awake. And um yeah, but i again, yeah, one of one of the reasons I picked the book up and went, oh, I like this one.
00:08:56.58
Mike
Again, you know, a year or whatever after, you know, reading the 24-hour book for a year and, you know, God, God, God, God.
00:08:56.66
Bill
Right. Right.
00:09:03.76
Mike
Yeah. yeah I always thought it was funny that, you know, the the title of the book is God Grant Me, but they don't use the word God in the prayers.
00:09:09.91
Bill
right
00:09:12.52
Mike
Yeah.
00:09:13.10
Bill
Right. Yeah. And it it wasn't even the fact that it wasn't God. It was just the fact that I just never noticed that there was an introduction, like a thing in the beginning of like, whether it would be God or higher power, I just never noticed that that startup to it was weird.
00:09:25.22
Mike
see
00:09:26.06
Bill
I don't know. It just again, that means nothing to anything that we're doing. But it was just one of those.
00:09:30.38
Mike
Well, more will be revealed.
00:09:31.30
Bill
I'm like, how the fuck? I don't know. Just weird. yes It'll take you 12 years to notice that the higher power is addressed in each one of the prayers.
00:09:39.61
Mike
Yeah.
00:09:39.75
Bill
Okay. Thank you.
00:09:40.62
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:09:41.56
Bill
got something to look forward to, you know, tomorrow or the next day too.
00:09:44.45
Mike
Sure. Right. You never know what you're going learn tomorrow.
00:09:46.53
Bill
Oh, Jesus. Jesus Christ. I mean, it just, ah it again is.
00:09:48.74
Mike
Or notice or pay attention to or whatever. yeah
00:09:52.14
Bill
yeah
00:09:52.45
Mike
I know. It's kind of nice.
00:09:53.75
Bill
it it's, it's just, it was, it was my, it was mind blowing again. It's not some big revelation. It was just weird. You know, I don't, I don't know how you, you all a sudden you're looking at something.
00:10:00.49
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:10:02.49
Bill
you're like where did that mark come from? That marks, has that been there all the time forever?
00:10:04.57
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:10:06.83
Bill
Yeah.
00:10:06.95
Mike
ah huh
00:10:08.95
Bill
All right. So the the easier, softer way, um whether it would be ah today or I don't know, let's let's go with recent and because basically that the the last part of it said, the action part, you know take a look at the day past and anytime that you look for the easier, softer way rather than going for your own beliefs or something along those lines, correct?
00:10:27.91
Mike
right yeah
00:10:29.62
Bill
Anything that that pops into your head where you've, I don't know, felt like doing that or did?
00:10:34.62
Mike
Um, no, a right.
00:10:36.78
Bill
hey
00:10:38.75
Mike
You know, actually, um, you know, cause i reread it. Um, cause like I said, I read it couple days ago and it was early in the morning and whatever. I went, that's good. But I always, when I do market, it I go back and read it again.
00:10:49.38
Mike
usually just before we do this, just to make sure that I wasn't completely out of my mind two days ago at six in the morning.
00:10:55.40
Bill
Right.
00:10:56.85
Mike
Um, I was, but I got the reading right anyway.
00:11:00.23
Bill
Right.
00:11:02.85
Mike
Um, yes. So I went back and reread it and said, you know, thought about it for half a second. And, um, yeah, exactly. It's, it's no, the answer is no.
00:11:14.13
Mike
Um, I didn't, I i didn't, I don't today, which is kind of nice to look back and go,
00:11:18.42
Bill
Right.
00:11:20.85
Mike
No, I didn't. I mean, do i i'm I'm sure I do um occasionally, how ah yeah
00:11:27.38
Bill
Right.
00:11:27.91
Mike
and but not not much and and nothing big. That's for damn i'm sure. It might be something small or you know somebody says something that I don't agree with and I'm, you know, whatever, too fucking tired to fight them about it or whatever.
00:11:31.96
Bill
right
00:11:41.52
Bill
hey
00:11:41.70
Mike
just let it go. um But yeah, the big stuff, the important stuff, I don't let slide by. I don't take that easier, softer way. If it's something that's seriously against the way I believe in things now and whatever, I'm not going to let it slide. Sorry, kids.
00:12:00.68
Bill
Right. Well, and and that's the thing, too, that, you know, and because I even said, as I said it, it I didn't mean it.
00:12:01.36
Mike
Yeah.
00:12:06.34
Bill
or I guess I wasn't thinking that I was saying, you know, thinking about versus doing.
00:12:10.01
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:12:10.23
Bill
I suppose I think about the easier, softer way quite a bit.
00:12:12.38
Mike
Oh, yeah, of course. Uh-huh.
00:12:13.54
Bill
um It's like, God, I'd like to do that. That corner looks very easy to cut right there, you know.
00:12:18.05
Mike
Yeah.
00:12:19.45
Bill
um But I, again, whether you start cutting a little corner, it's going to be a bigger corner.
00:12:23.52
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:12:24.04
Bill
It's going to be a big fucking thing.
00:12:24.21
Mike
Yeah.
00:12:25.73
Bill
But the biggest thing in there was, you know, going outside of my beliefs. And I think however that was worded, I think that was the gist of it, right?
00:12:29.50
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:12:32.05
Bill
Going outside of our our core beliefs or whatever it is.
00:12:32.12
Mike
Yeah, yeah, right.
00:12:35.14
Bill
um That I can think, I can say... I'll say 100%, at least in my head, because that's my that's my feeling towards it.
00:12:41.71
Mike
Yeah. he
00:12:43.49
Bill
um I'm not going to agree with something that I don't believe in. I'm not going to do something that that goes against my beliefs.
00:12:46.42
Mike
Right.
00:12:48.76
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:12:49.31
Bill
um I'm not going to be some fucking chameleon for people that I'm around um or or situations I'm around.
00:12:52.68
Mike
no
00:12:55.19
Bill
And I used to do that, you know, something as simple as... You know, there was certain types of alcoholic beverages that I preferred. You know, I was a beer guy and there were certain types of beer.
00:13:03.24
Mike
me
00:13:05.77
Bill
And I did like, you know, a whiskey and a 7-Up or, you know, something, a whiskey and a Coke type of thing, like a Jack and Coke, whatever.
00:13:08.84
Mike
ah ha
00:13:12.40
Bill
um You know, but there was people that I was with. It's like, okay, this person's drinking this, usually female. um And I'm like, oh, okay, so yeah you're mixing that up, mix me up one, two.
00:13:17.31
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:13:20.45
Bill
Yeah.
00:13:20.62
Mike
Sure.
00:13:21.05
Bill
You know, I kind of got on a rum kick with a couple of people and, you know, whatever. um You know, but those were things that um I was a chameleon and probably the way I acted around people also. I know I was, which I just won't. I won't do that anymore.
00:13:35.63
Bill
um I mean, I am what I am. You know, I mean, I was just going to say I'm a T-shirt and jeans guy, like you said, you know, a guy with no style.
00:13:37.69
Mike
Oh.
00:13:41.51
Bill
And I don't fucking care. Yeah.
00:13:43.26
Mike
Right?
00:13:44.07
Bill
You know, I mean, literally the the clothes that I i wore. okay i I think I might have said this on here before. I don't know'll Probably told you when when we were in high school, mom travel a lot when she worked for General Electric and I think one other company for certainly for GE um all over the place.
00:13:56.50
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:13:58.80
Mike
Right.
00:13:59.98
Bill
And her her thing was don't remember what she she did for Kathy, too. I know specifically for me, but I think maybe for for both of us, she'd buy a T-shirt for whatever town she went to.
00:14:07.69
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:14:10.20
Mike
Right.
00:14:10.72
Bill
You know, because we wore t-shirts and, you know, so I had, you know, it was Boston, it was someplace in Texas, it was wherever in California, whatever it was, you know, all these different places.
00:14:17.94
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:14:19.39
Bill
um But I wore t-shirts all the time. Yes, I wore sweaters back then. i I don't think you catch me dead in a sweater. I don't like them. You know, I have no desire to wear a sweater. I wear long sleeve t-shirts in the wintertime and I wear short sleeve t-shirts in the summer, you know.
00:14:31.00
Mike
Yep. Hmm.
00:14:33.62
Bill
um I can dress up. Oh, little quick memory on Facebook. One of my favorite kind of like casual button up shirts. um I just saw a memory when I bought it. It was 10 years ago.
00:14:43.66
Mike
Hmm. Hmm.
00:14:44.44
Bill
I still have it and it's still in great shape.
00:14:45.48
Mike
Right.
00:14:46.31
Bill
You know, I don't wear it all the time.
00:14:46.27
Mike
Right. Yeah, right. Exactly.
00:14:50.17
Bill
But, um, so, so that's the thing I am. I, I am who I am and all I am, but, um, I don't have any desire whatsoever to change little things like that, you know, to try to please somebody.
00:14:54.68
Mike
Hmm. Hmm.
00:14:59.61
Mike
Right.
00:15:00.94
Bill
But, um, I'm, I'm afraid to try to change anything else because I know that would hurt me, you know, and hurt my, my whole lifestyle, my sobriety and all that stuff.
00:15:01.27
Mike
hi
00:15:06.35
Mike
see
00:15:11.00
Bill
all It's still fucking little things, you know, it is.
00:15:11.17
Mike
Right. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. You know, and I mean, well, you know, the other side of the coin or whatever, same damn coin. um Right. You know, I mean, know I'm not going to change s way I fucking do shit either.
00:15:22.24
Mike
Yes, it is, you know, jeans, but they're cut differently. and You know, T-shirts, but they have different things on them.
00:15:25.70
Bill
and
00:15:27.75
Mike
and
00:15:30.02
Bill
Yeah.
00:15:30.58
Mike
You know, and dripping in silver and whatever. you know, they love me when I go through the airport and I don't fucking care.
00:15:35.69
Bill
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:15:39.12
Mike
Yeah, exactly.
00:15:39.39
Bill
Right.
00:15:40.00
Mike
You know, but yeah, like you said, you know, this this is who I am This is what I'm going to be. And I, you know, if you don't like it too fucking a bad, look the other way.
00:15:47.75
Bill
Right.
00:15:51.09
Bill
Yeah. what What are they, what the fuck are they looking at me driving into my driveway years ago? That was fucking great. That's fucking great. Um, so, and it talked about obviously the quick fibs, even, even little white lies, as they said, that might not hurt anyone.
00:16:04.51
Mike
Right.
00:16:04.76
Bill
And I think those are the, um, you know, those are the, probably the, the tough ones, the ones that seem easy, you know, to, to get by with, but you know, that again, that goes back to the, to the other thing, you know, if I'm, if I'm willing to compromise on this little thing,
00:16:09.97
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:16:17.84
Bill
When is it going to become just a little bit bigger? It's going it's it's a snowball effect.
00:16:20.52
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:16:21.32
Bill
It just is, you know?
00:16:22.43
Mike
Right.
00:16:23.14
Bill
And we've seen all of it from all the, ah you know, no bad examples, as we say.
00:16:25.38
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:16:27.84
Bill
We've seen it from people all the time.
00:16:28.16
Mike
Right.
00:16:29.45
Bill
Well, maybe I don't need to do, like you said, you don't want to read a fourth book because you don't want you you don't want to add a fourth book because you don't want to add a fourth book.
00:16:29.55
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:16:33.83
Mike
he Right, because of well because I don't want to have to take away the fourth book.
00:16:40.60
Bill
Yeah.
00:16:40.60
Mike
Right, if I add the fourth book, then I've got to read four fucking books, and I don't want to do that.
00:16:41.03
Bill
Yeah.
00:16:45.59
Bill
No, and I get that. and And I am committed now to I've got my four and whenever I added it, because the fourth thing for me used to be um it was that website in the rooms because they had a daily reading on it.
00:16:50.35
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:16:56.72
Mike
Right.
00:16:57.22
Bill
And then they stopped sending me and it was just it was too difficult to try to find this fucking reading every day.
00:17:02.50
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:17:02.74
Bill
That's when I added a fourth thing, you know?
00:17:02.71
Mike
All right.
00:17:04.77
Bill
Um, but I, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I'm not going to take away at this point, literally, I mean, everything I do takes me 15 minutes.
00:17:12.27
Mike
Right.
00:17:12.57
Bill
Um, you know, I'm not trying to say, well, if you read a fourth book, it wouldn't take you much longer.
00:17:16.38
Mike
Right. Yes, exactly.
00:17:17.08
Bill
I don't care. I mean, whether you read three or four books, but I, the thing of it that I do understand 100% is why you don't want to add one.
00:17:17.76
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:17:24.04
Mike
right
00:17:24.57
Bill
Yeah. and The same thing with the ending. when When G gave us that extra reading, you read it one time, you're like, well, fuck, now I guess I got to read this every goddamn time.
00:17:32.69
Mike
yes exactly
00:17:35.45
Bill
And it's fun. It's a great little thing to do. But yeah, you you added something, so you cannot take it away. I understand that.
00:17:40.33
Mike
Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah.
00:17:42.90
Bill
But it it does. It goes back to the to the bad shit, too. You have the little lies. ah they're Same thing. whatever Whether it's a work thing or whatever whatever the deal is. If something goes wrong, I want to either cover it up or find somebody else to blame.
00:17:56.07
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:17:56.22
Bill
um Because I don't want to fucking deal with it. I just don't.
00:17:58.53
Mike
right
00:17:58.91
Bill
you know But then you look at it and you're like, fuck me. You know, I could, okay, I guess I got to own up to it here.
00:18:01.52
Mike
yeah
00:18:04.00
Mike
yeah
00:18:04.25
Bill
Here's what, here's what I did.
00:18:06.04
Mike
ah
00:18:08.12
Bill
that just reminded me, and I, ah I'm sorry, Kathy, because I know this Kathy's going listen to this and this did upset her.
00:18:12.94
Mike
Yeah. Sure. Uh-huh.
00:18:13.56
Bill
She, she was not happy about this. So she has ah a butter dish. It's like a ceramic butter dish.
00:18:18.96
Mike
aha
00:18:19.52
Bill
And, you know, it's in the fridge, you know, like hard butter dish and has the little, you know, the little knob on top to obviously that's how you, the handle type of thing, but it's a little, little knob on it.
00:18:21.86
Mike
yeah
00:18:26.68
Mike
sure this
00:18:28.78
Bill
So, um, I don't know. I've been down there for, you know, three fucking years and I keep, I buy cloths and pickles. I keep them on the same goddamn shelf. She probably has her butter on one shelf or the other shelf. I was putting my pickles away and all it did was tap the top and a broke.
00:18:44.94
Bill
And I'm like, ah fuck me. And of course, literally the first thing I'm like, I wonder if I could just set it on there and just like act like it never happened.
00:18:50.53
Mike
Mm-hmm. course. First thought wrong.
00:18:53.75
Bill
I mean, I swear to God, that's the first thing that came into my head.
00:18:56.62
Mike
Of course it is.
00:18:56.77
Bill
And I'm like, and I'm like, there's just, I mean, in I didn't smash it. I just tapped it and fucking broke. So, um, you know, she gets home and I showed her and I mean, you could see this, it hurt her, you know, cause she's like, that's my favorite thing.
00:19:03.56
Mike
Right.
00:19:07.14
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Mm-hmm.
00:19:09.14
Bill
And I've looked before and um I'm like, I'm like, well, I'm sure you can glue it.
00:19:09.62
Mike
she
00:19:11.96
Bill
We can get them. I felt terrible. You know, I'm like, I didn't do it on purpose.
00:19:14.23
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:19:15.56
Bill
And she's apologizing to me. I'm like, what the fuck are you apologizing for?
00:19:17.91
Mike
Right. Of course.
00:19:19.08
Bill
Well, she's like, it upset me, but she didn't yell at me, you know, but it just, I'm like, Jesus Christ.
00:19:19.21
Mike
Yes.
00:19:21.79
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:19:24.78
Bill
But yeah, I'm like, how, how can I cover this up?
00:19:24.96
Mike
Right.
00:19:26.86
Bill
So it wasn't me
00:19:27.98
Mike
of course yes right
00:19:29.78
Bill
But then, but then again, I don't, i don't want to break her shit that I don't want to hurt her, you know?
00:19:33.24
Mike
so
00:19:33.38
Bill
So there are two, two things on top of that, but anyhow, so yeah, that just reminded
00:19:36.67
Mike
right Right, but yeah, right, but you know, you you did.
00:19:40.58
Bill
great
00:19:40.88
Mike
a
00:19:42.64
Bill
me of that.
00:19:42.64
Mike
And yes, you probably could have gotten away with that. Right, but but you can't. We can't.
00:19:49.66
Bill
Right.
00:19:50.48
Mike
yeah Exactly.
00:19:50.58
Bill
Yeah.
00:19:51.00
Mike
We have to fucking take responsibility for knocking the knob off a butter dish. Otherwise, we'll be fucking with a handle of vodka the next day and it won't be good.
00:20:01.74
Bill
Yeah. Yeah. Well, how'd you get drunk? Well, I, I lied about the butter dish.
00:20:06.57
Mike
That's right.
00:20:07.57
Bill
Why'd you start drinking again? Well, had to, I, I broke, I knocked the knob off.
00:20:09.19
Mike
I knocked a knob. but
00:20:12.71
Bill
You did what? You don't understand.
00:20:14.04
Mike
Yeah.
00:20:14.84
Bill
i can't explain it. But I mean, that's what the next thing I wrote down in here was accept consequences. And, um, I don't want to ever, I don't want to accept consequences.
00:20:20.72
Mike
me
00:20:23.98
Mike
No, of course not.
00:20:24.12
Bill
Yeah.
00:20:25.20
Mike
To this day, absolutely not.
00:20:29.94
Bill
Why the fuck would I want to accept consequences? I mean, you know, I mean, come on.
00:20:33.04
Mike
Right. But I mean, i and I love the way it's written in here, which I had to open up and look again. Right.
00:20:38.36
Bill
Right.
00:20:38.33
Mike
Being fair means we accept the consequences we have earned.
00:20:43.49
Bill
Right. Yeah. Yeah. That when, and I didn't write down the urn part, but i I was shaking my head. Yeah. When you, when you, uh, when you were reading that, because it, it is, I mean, we, you earned it.
00:20:47.74
Mike
Yeah, exactly.
00:20:51.45
Bill
You earned this, this talking to whatever the case is or whatever the thing is,
00:20:51.74
Mike
Right. Mm hmm. Well, whatever. and again, it didn't, you know, it doesn't say negative consequences or positive consequences.
00:20:59.67
Bill
Yeah, true, true.
00:21:00.82
Mike
It says, you know, we accept the consequences that we have earned, you know, good, bad, or indifferent. and And absolutely, you know, we get to accept the consequences we earned that were good because we did something good, you know, um and we didn accept the consequences that we earned when we did something bad.
00:21:19.32
Bill
Right. You know, that's that that's interesting.
00:21:19.94
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
00:21:21.11
Bill
I don't think I've ever, I don't think I've ever looked at the word consequence on the positive side ever.
00:21:27.27
Mike
Sure.
00:21:28.25
Bill
I seriously don't.
00:21:28.32
Mike
Right.
00:21:29.01
Bill
I don't think I have. um You know, like ah that's that was a positive consequence. It just doesn't that almost ah I don't know. It doesn't ring right my head. I understand it, but I just I've never thought of it that way.
00:21:37.80
Mike
Right. Well, choices and consequences. We make good choices, we get good consequences.
00:21:42.21
Bill
Right.
00:21:45.10
Mike
Make bad choices, we get bad ones.
00:21:45.42
Bill
Yeah. No, it ah and and again, it's ah I get it, but it just I don't think I've really ever ever looked at that that way.
00:21:47.49
Mike
Imagine that.
00:21:53.80
Bill
I just always thought thought of it on the and negative side of things. But, huh, look at that. I learned...
00:21:58.54
Mike
Well, blame Bob Barker for that. Truth or consequences.
00:22:05.60
Bill
Right.
00:22:06.07
Mike
And there's like probably one person that's listening to this that knows what the fuck I'm talking about.
00:22:11.46
Bill
Well, you know, um the the second Happy Gilmore comes out today. so um actually is ah So I'm sure that people have been rewatching the first one and Bob Barker's, you know, kicking his ass in the first one.
00:22:15.36
Mike
Yeah.
00:22:20.73
Bill
So I think.
00:22:21.01
Mike
Right. Well, no, they know who Bob Barker is. They don't know.
00:22:23.21
Bill
Oh, OK.
00:22:23.73
Mike
They don't remember the show shoot truth or consequences.
00:22:27.08
Bill
Oh, I got you. OK, yeah, good point. I was say I was thinking you were saying they didn't know who Bob Barker was, but.
00:22:29.15
Mike
Right. Oh, no. Yeah. Well, OK. Five of them know who Bob Barker is.
00:22:36.27
Bill
yeah Yeah, that's what i was saying. I think the the new this new crowd of Happy Gilmore lovers probably went back and watched the original one, so I think a lot more people are going to know who that who that dude is. But either way, either way I think that's great.
00:22:45.04
Mike
all right.
00:22:47.84
Bill
But um the consequence thing, I mean, again, it just opened my eyes to yet another thing this week. yeah um
00:22:53.75
Mike
Hmm.
00:22:54.00
Bill
But it said, you know, I put ah the one of last things I wrote down in here. Well, ah two other things um become a new person face life in a new way.
00:23:02.66
Mike
Right.
00:23:02.90
Bill
Everything that we've been talking about, um you know, but also that all of these things when it was talking about at the end, these are all opportunities, you know.
00:23:11.44
Mike
Yep.
00:23:12.14
Bill
And that I do look at on both sides of things that, again, no bad examples.
00:23:15.78
Mike
Yeah.
00:23:18.23
Bill
you know um
00:23:18.52
Mike
Right.
00:23:19.27
Bill
Whatever the case is, whatever we are going through in our lives, they they're all opportunities. All the shit that we went through, we always talk about the fact that you know the the things that we went through have worth.
00:23:29.63
Bill
Those are opportunities for us to help people, but also for us to learn.
00:23:30.02
Mike
Mm hmm. Right.
00:23:33.90
Bill
And I think also it's an opportunity for us to go back to that shit if we don't do what we need to do.
00:23:38.51
Mike
Oh, yeah.
00:23:39.29
Bill
you know about that.
00:23:39.31
Mike
but There's your opportunity.
00:23:40.31
Bill
we we we know all about
00:23:42.02
Mike
That gunner's just waiting for me.
00:23:42.27
Bill
Yeah. Yeah. That would be a negative opportunity, but a opportunity nonetheless.
00:23:47.51
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:23:50.78
Bill
But yeah, I, I, I really did.
00:23:51.30
Mike
Yes.
00:23:54.00
Bill
I liked that reading. i And that, that one I remember it's you know, obviously a a good one.
00:23:55.27
Mike
Yeah.
00:23:57.95
Bill
I think going back to the 24 hour, 24 hour book, it was either to, it might've been today or yesterday.
00:24:04.20
Mike
Yeah.
00:24:04.40
Bill
um Same thing. I was getting through the second paragraph and I'm like, Oh my God, there's a lot of gods in this one.
00:24:09.35
Mike
a Ah.
00:24:09.70
Bill
So I counted, this was the, the 10 or 11 God reading, um, either today or yesterday, whatever it was. I'm like, I'm like, holy.
00:24:15.90
Mike
Well, I mean, what today or yesterday is dyke day, isn't it?
00:24:19.53
Bill
Um, yeah. The finger in the dike. Yeah. Yeah.
00:24:21.44
Mike
Yep.
00:24:21.59
Bill
That was, that, that was this week.
00:24:21.76
Mike
Right. Yep. It is.
00:24:23.26
Bill
Yeah.
00:24:23.44
Mike
Hmm.
00:24:23.80
Bill
and Keep your, keep your, make your dike strong.
00:24:24.11
Mike
right
00:24:25.70
Bill
Keep your finger in it.
00:24:26.74
Mike
you know
00:24:28.60
Bill
And I'm like, that's inappropriate.
00:24:30.42
Mike
it is
00:24:32.66
Bill
ah All right. So now that we get all ah not that thing, um anything else with the reading, Mike? Because I think, it as I just mentioned, I think it's a good one. But anything else that jumped out on you?
00:24:40.69
Mike
It is. No, I think we have covered that one.
00:24:45.01
Bill
Okay. All right. So um I don't know. you know Well, actually, you would you know I wrote it down anyhow, but you had mentioned it before we got on here um because it's one of the things this month that we're recording on on a non-Friday.
00:24:56.54
Bill
Because this happens to be, again, not that anyone fucking cares, but for us, this is this is Friday, which is weird.
00:25:00.40
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:25:02.23
Bill
you know
00:25:02.40
Mike
Yes.
00:25:03.07
Bill
we we haven't had a It seems like it's been a while since we've had a Friday, which it really hasn't, but I don't know.
00:25:07.74
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:25:08.33
Bill
This just seems weird. So um your radio gig's coming up again, and I'm getting all them obviously all the memories on Facebook and all that stuff in the last couple years.
00:25:12.24
Mike
It is.
00:25:15.57
Bill
So um do you want to just, I don't know, pitch your or talk about your radio gig coming up again and what what the deal is again?
00:25:20.33
Mike
um Yeah, yeah, real quick. it's ah There's a local college radio station here in Cleveland, WJCU. It's John Carroll University, a Jesuit university.
00:25:32.82
Mike
But there's a show on there called Metal on Metal, hosted by a wonderful man named Bill Peters, and he's been doing it since 1982. So what is that, 43 years now?
00:25:45.81
Mike
Yes.
00:25:45.89
Bill
Yes.
00:25:46.57
Mike
And i I can do simple math again. um Anyway, um they have a Radiothon. It's community supported. the The college only covers like I think 30% of their budget.
00:26:00.63
Mike
So the rest of the budget is community supported. And I a part of the community and I support it. So every year I get to, I throw them a couple of shekels and go down there and I get to play my horrible music on their radio station.
00:26:16.60
Mike
And I And I've talked about it before, but you know, JCU, um, the, uh, not the first Friday I was at the Keating center, but the second Friday. So I, you know, been there about 10 days or so, nine or 10 days and, uh, got back from a meeting on a Friday night and was like, fuck, I don't know what to do with myself. Cause you know, I was nine or 10 days sober.
00:26:41.16
Mike
Well, nine or 10 days at the Keating center. So a couple of weeks sober.
00:26:43.22
Bill
Right.
00:26:44.65
Mike
Um, and, uh, Yeah, so I started flipping around the radio on a Friday night, and i it was, I can't remember if it was the Dead Boys first, and then the New York Dolls, or was the New York Dolls, and then the Dead Boys, two of my favorite bands in the entire world, and I was like, what the fuck is this?
00:27:03.50
Mike
And it was Adam and Andy doing their Music to Break Things by a show, which they don't do anymore, but they did it for like 13, 15 years, something like that. But anyway, uh, JCU, it was my first lying in that bunk at the Keating center in the dark, um, with my headphones on. And it was, it was my first, uh, glimmer of fuck. Maybe I can do this. Maybe I can like still be myself, you know, and, and have a semi normal life and still have fun. And,
00:27:37.51
Mike
whatever it was my first glimpse of that um so jcu has a ah very strong uh place in my heart so um yeah so i get to go down and help support and and hang out and um i'm hoping he'll never he won't hear this because i'm sure he doesn't listen but uh bill he'll love this he uh he was hiking uh three four we he he's big hiker
00:27:51.19
Bill
Right.
00:28:05.29
Bill
Really?
00:28:05.54
Mike
Oh, yeah. Yeah. He's been doing it for years. And I mean, he's hardcore miles and miles and out in the mud. And yeah. Anyway, um he took a fall a few weeks ago and fractured his tibia.
00:28:16.32
Bill
Oh.
00:28:20.07
Mike
Didn't break it clean, but he fucked himself up pretty good.
00:28:20.11
Bill
Hmm.
00:28:23.43
Mike
ah yeah Had to like get rescued and shit.
00:28:28.03
Bill
Oh, really?
00:28:28.19
Mike
ah Yeah. So anyway, he's, ah he's, ah he's mending, but he, so he might not be there. we're We're waiting to see. He's convalescing at the moment. He did, uh, he did some time at a, at a place of rehab center, physical rehab center.
00:28:42.22
Bill
Damn.
00:28:43.52
Mike
Uh, and, uh, yeah, he's at his mom's now, but, uh, yeah.
00:28:44.10
Bill
Right.
00:28:49.63
Mike
So, you know, hopefully he's, he's going to be able to hobble in to the studio in a few weeks, but his buddy John's been covering for him. So I might be hanging out with Mr. Roddy.
00:28:59.59
Bill
Huh.
00:28:59.58
Mike
Um, yeah, we'll see. But anyway, get well soon, Bill. And, uh, Yeah, anyway, so well what, August 22nd, if you are in the Cleveland area, which I know a lot of our listeners are, it's WJCU. It's 88.7 on your FM dial.
00:29:17.72
Mike
And for the rest of you folks out there listening on the interwebs, it's www.wjcu.org.
00:29:27.08
Mike
And you can stream it. It's also on TuneIn and probably a couple other places. JCU actually has their own app you can download to. So, um yeah, listen to me.
00:29:37.75
Bill
Yeah. And I've, ah um i I don't know, for the last, whatever it is, handful of years, I've listened through, through tune in as far well. No, I know I have, I don't know where I listened to before then, but yeah, it's easy.
00:29:45.80
Mike
Right.
00:29:48.44
Bill
It's ah yeah. When you pull it up, I mean, it's easy you enough. It comes right up on, on and tune in, but um yeah.
00:29:52.28
Mike
Yep.
00:29:53.04
Bill
And as you were going, I was going to make sure yeah you had mentioned the date. So I got yeah August 22nd and then whatever, I mean, I'll leave that up to you when you start promoting it on Facebook, I'll throw it up on our Instagram pages.
00:29:57.78
Mike
Yep.
00:30:01.41
Mike
Sure.
00:30:03.43
Bill
We do. And I know you usually do it the week before. So obviously we'll promote the live in,
00:30:05.86
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah, right. Because, you know, during the summer, there's a bunch of us that go down there and do it. So, yeah, I try not to step on any toes and just do it my week.
00:30:12.16
Bill
Right.
00:30:17.09
Bill
Right. And the other thing too, is that for anyone that's listening to us and we talk enough about, you know, this fucking website that we have sober.mature.com.
00:30:24.46
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:30:25.32
Bill
If you go on there on our sponsor page, and I don't remember if you, I don't think you got moved down. I could probably just look at it one way or the other, go on our sponsor page, click on there and you'll see where it says Mike's radio gig.
00:30:32.87
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:30:37.49
Bill
We keep the link up there all year.
00:30:39.28
Mike
Yep.
00:30:39.51
Bill
um You get a link to the website. So, I mean, you can obviously pop in there that would take you to the radio station. um Worst, worst case scenario. And only other thing you failed to mention was that if anyone wants to donate a little bit of money to JCU, you can also do that.
00:30:50.54
Mike
Yep.
00:30:52.54
Bill
Go through our website. You can write to the the radio station website.
00:30:54.86
Mike
ye
00:30:55.30
Bill
And, um you know, they're they're doing good stuff out there. And like Mike said, it's not it's not all supported by a college. It's supported by the the good folks like – okay, this might not be in a sentence too often.
00:31:02.14
Mike
now
00:31:07.79
Bill
The good folks of this of this fine city of Cleveland like Mike. Oh, whew.
00:31:11.28
Mike
oh Wow.
00:31:12.27
Bill
Good – Wow. Jesus. Hey, give me a minute. I got to shake. I can shake that one off.
00:31:15.94
Mike
Ah, right. Well, hey, guess what, kids?
00:31:17.28
Bill
Good.
00:31:18.44
Mike
It's on the internet forever now.
00:31:20.81
Bill
Good folks like Mike.
00:31:22.70
Mike
it Right. But see, there you go. That's it's one of the things, man. I'm a goddamn upstanding member of my community. Fuck you.
00:31:31.17
Bill
Yeah, like, ah oh, God, again, I was just watching Breakfast Club. When he goes in, he goes, people love me. I'm a goddamn whatever he says. He's like a pillar of the community or whatever the kid he says.
00:31:38.31
Mike
Yeah.
00:31:42.22
Bill
And who are they going to believe, me or you, you piece of shit? We're talking to Bender.
00:31:46.06
Mike
Right.
00:31:47.85
Bill
All right. i'm Oh, yeah, I'm a swell guy. That's what he says.
00:31:50.32
Mike
Yeah.
00:31:50.49
Bill
I'm a swell guy. That's what you are, Mike. You're a swell guy.
00:31:53.32
Mike
I am.
00:31:54.79
Bill
All right. But yeah, stay tuned. We'll we'll have more on that on our Instagram page and we'll mention it coming up. But it's always and I love the story. You know, I'm glad that you include that every time when you talk about it, because it's important.
00:32:05.27
Mike
Right.
00:32:08.25
Bill
I mean, I was there. or You and I weren't really like friends at that point, but um I know what you were feeling like that.
00:32:11.32
Mike
Mm-mm.
00:32:14.49
Mike
Yeah.
00:32:14.71
Bill
and fucking bunk in the Keating center.
00:32:15.61
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:32:16.39
Bill
And I'm sure a lot of people out there do too. You know, that first, that first glimpse of um Jesus, man, I, I, I might be able to do this.
00:32:23.82
Mike
Yeah.
00:32:23.88
Bill
You know, I might be able to be me, you know?
00:32:24.46
Mike
Right. and Right. And and yeah, be happy.
00:32:28.74
Bill
Yeah.
00:32:28.93
Mike
a Yeah.
00:32:29.84
Bill
And, and it was, it was a little glimpse of happiness for you on a Friday night for, for fucking years.
00:32:32.41
Mike
yeah.
00:32:35.07
Bill
I mean, you were listening to that, you know, for, for years, whenever they went off the, I mean, when did they go off the air?
00:32:35.39
Mike
Yep. oh yeah yep
00:32:40.57
Bill
It was after I moved back to Wisconsin. I know that much.
00:32:42.10
Mike
Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Adam and Andy. I mean, yeah, music to break things by was huge. I love that show. Love those guys, you know, went down and did that, you know, did that show a couple of times with them. Um,
00:32:54.00
Bill
Right.
00:32:55.28
Mike
the the last day, the last show they did on JCU, their final, whatever, um, they ended up doing like, God, I think they did maybe six or seven hours.
00:33:06.69
Mike
I mean, something crazy.
00:33:07.45
Bill
ah
00:33:08.05
Mike
Yeah. And, um, I was, I was on the road and it was, you know, Friday night. So I was coming home and, uh, yeah, I, I made it down there for like the last half hour of the show. i was in studio.
00:33:18.96
Mike
So yeah, they used to always call me super fan and,
00:33:22.45
Bill
Yeah, I remember that. Yeah, you'd do the well you same thing with ah the mummy and the monkey. When you when you donate, then they you always get a shout out on their show, but you they used to shout you out on their the radio show too.
00:33:27.92
Mike
see
00:33:30.54
Mike
Oh, yeah.
00:33:32.85
Bill
so
00:33:32.87
Mike
Yep.
00:33:34.02
Bill
Yeah, it was just, I don't know it's a To me, it's a it's a good it's a good story. don't know if you want to call it, maybe it is heartwarming story of just you know those ah fucked up times in early recovery.
00:33:40.47
Mike
yeah
00:33:43.74
Mike
Yeah.
00:33:43.90
Bill
As fucked up as it can feel, um again, to have that have that moment.
00:33:45.56
Mike
Uh-huh. Absolutely.
00:33:47.94
Bill
it was it's I don't know. but I like the story. so Plus, it's for a good cause.
00:33:52.30
Mike
Absolutely.
00:33:53.96
Bill
All right. um So do we want to talk about, ah so I've got actually two things about, two things about hikers or hiking. um
00:34:02.04
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:34:02.51
Bill
We could do, do that. We can talk about dead people. We can talk about, we could talk about a snake. um I had a snake incident. um but You want to hear your Wisconsin thing from Facebook? That was also kind of funny too.
00:34:13.52
Mike
Sure.
00:34:14.61
Bill
And then one thing about Mark Maron. So which one do you want to hear?
00:34:16.97
Mike
ah Well, let's, we're going to talk about me. Let's talk about me.
00:34:20.87
Bill
yeah All right. So um this was on this was on Facebook. when So just the the quick backup. When I moved back to Wisconsin, when I got this job in in Wisconsin, literally from the time I was offered the job to the time I started was three weeks.
00:34:36.82
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:34:37.11
Bill
um And I had interviewed like, I don't know, a week or two prior to that, maybe a month prior to that. ah But everything happened really quickly. And I i actually went up, took my son, picked up my son, and we went out to Sun Prairie, which is a little outside of Madison, actually where my stepsister and her husband had lived.
00:34:54.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:34:54.46
Bill
Looked at a place, blah, blah, blah, and did the whole thing. And ah literally, again, drove from Ohio, picked up my son. we did the whole whole bit and went up there. Um, nice place, maybe a little bit out of my price range, but I mean, it was going to work close enough, all this stuff in the, um, I get back to Ohio and like within two days they call me and they're like, they're like, yeah, you know, you, uh, you know, you don't fit our, our credit profile.
00:35:17.37
Mike
yeah
00:35:17.60
Bill
I'm like, what talking about? You know? And, and at the time, um, at the time I got sober, I hadn't used, um, any credit in years, you know, to the point when I bought that, that first Acura, the guy was, he didn't want to ask me, but you know, finally he's like, he goes, usually the only time we see somebody with no credit score.
00:35:26.74
Mike
Right.
00:35:35.34
Bill
Cause I i had no credit score when I bought that car. Um, he's like, if you were like in prison, and I'm like, du no, no, no.
00:35:41.84
Mike
Right.
00:35:42.29
Bill
And I told him, I'm like, I went through bad divorces, whatever. And I'm like, my life was a fucking mess.
00:35:44.86
Mike
right
00:35:45.81
Bill
And I just didn't, I didn't have the ability, whatever. So, um, they had a, uh, a criteria there, you know, whatever the credit score was, I didn't fit, you know?
00:35:54.37
Mike
Right.
00:35:54.61
Bill
And I'm like, I'm like, I told you this, I, I, all this stuff on the phone.
00:35:54.70
Mike
Right.
00:35:58.16
Bill
They're like, well, well, so I'm like, now I'm like two weeks away or three, literally again, you know, half a week, two and a half weeks away.
00:35:58.55
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yep.
00:36:04.87
Mike
right
00:36:05.36
Bill
So I ended up calling. Um, and you know, this is a good thing. I called the, I called the central office, um, of Alcoholics Anonymous in Madison
00:36:13.11
Mike
here
00:36:13.67
Bill
And I'm like, here's what my deal is. You know, I'm like, I'm moving out here.
00:36:15.87
Mike
out
00:36:17.79
Bill
I need a place to stay. Do you do you know anyone, any place I can call? Like, yeah, actually one of our one of our members works at this management company, blah, blah, blah. So um I call her. You know, she's a member. She had been sober for 20 some years at that point.
00:36:30.74
Mike
is
00:36:31.07
Bill
um Gave me three options. And she said, based on your criteria, she said, I took everything you said. Talked to all these people. You got three options, whichever one you want to pick. You will be, you'll be, I wouldn't say admitted, but you will get the place, you know, your application.
00:36:44.16
Mike
You will be housed.
00:36:45.38
Bill
Yeah. Your application will be accepted. They get where you're coming from. I'm like, okay.
00:36:48.39
Mike
Right.
00:36:49.24
Bill
So I picked the place and then here was the post.
00:36:49.27
Mike
Cool.
00:36:51.67
Bill
Okay. So it says, this was 12 years ago on Facebook. It says the comment on Facebook says after I posted where I was the new place I was going to get, you said for what it's worth, I get a better vibe from this one than the other.
00:37:04.24
Bill
um I don't remember what the other one looked like, quite honestly, my head, but the one that I moved into basically turned out to be a drug house.
00:37:10.72
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah.
00:37:11.04
Bill
Yeah.
00:37:11.12
Mike
i Yeah.
00:37:12.49
Bill
So that's what, when I read this comment this morning, I'm reading it. I just started laughing and laughing because let me, let me reread Mike's Mike's words for what it's worth.
00:37:16.79
Mike
Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
00:37:21.61
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:37:23.36
Bill
I get a better vibe from this one than the last one. So everyone out there, my friend, Mike at three years sober, um got a better vibe about a drug house than he did about some other place.
00:37:27.36
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:37:30.83
Mike
did. Mm-hmm. Yep. i did
00:37:37.55
Bill
Yeah. And, you know, nobody would have known. But yeah, I mean, when I first moved into it, I mean, it's bad enough. I mean, literally, it four family. it I couldn't, I used to put a fan in front of my door because it didn't seal all the way on the bottom.
00:37:49.71
Bill
I put a fan in front of my door to to blow the weed smell out of my apartment because it smelled that bad in the entire building.
00:37:53.43
Mike
out
00:37:56.49
Bill
um And then, you know, literally the the people across the hall from me, you'd see people coming and going all hours day. They were dealing, you know, out of the building.
00:38:02.88
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:38:03.97
Bill
And I'm Jesus Christ. But you know what? Thank you, Mike. You got a better vibe out of that one.
00:38:08.35
Mike
Yeah, I did. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:38:11.20
Bill
It's just, again, it made me laugh. No way that any, either one is, obviously anyone would have known, but it just, ah it made me, it made me laugh.
00:38:15.43
Mike
sir
00:38:18.27
Bill
So.
00:38:18.70
Mike
it
00:38:19.57
Bill
good All right. So this is the, this other one, this is kind of, this is more of a recovery thing, but it came off of the morning show. I was ah obviously listened to, um they were talking about optimism versus pessimism and they're joking back and forth, obviously having a good time.
00:38:33.57
Bill
You know, it's a, it's a fucking wacky morning show, you know?
00:38:34.01
Mike
Uh-huh. Sure.
00:38:36.56
Bill
um But yeah.
00:38:37.14
Mike
Waka waka.
00:38:39.54
Bill
You know, that here's the funny part, though. They make fun of, that's the funniest part about there this radio show. It has been this way for years.
00:38:46.03
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:38:47.55
Bill
Is they make fun of formatted morning shows.
00:38:50.37
Mike
Sure.
00:38:51.19
Bill
And they're really not. I mean, there' there's certain things they do. They got to take their commercial breaks. They have to do this.
00:38:54.88
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:38:56.22
Bill
They've gotten into this this groove and this pattern, how the show runs. So you know every day what's go what's coming up for the most part.
00:39:01.29
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:39:02.38
Bill
Um, but you know, they, they just stopped, I mean, against management's, um, you know, direction, they stopped playing music cause they didn't feel like it anymore.
00:39:09.81
Mike
Right.
00:39:10.16
Bill
Um, then they demanded them to play music.
00:39:10.16
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:39:11.68
Bill
So they're like, fuck it. We're going to play Hanson three times an hour.
00:39:14.72
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:39:15.15
Bill
So they played, you know, the song, um, bop, anytime they were flow supposed to play a song, you know, so just fucking shit like that.
00:39:18.97
Mike
ah hu
00:39:20.91
Bill
But so anyhow, um, talking about that. So my thought was, do you, do you consider yourself, um, the person you are today? And I know how both of us were, we're drinking, Um, but do you consider yourself to be more optimistic or pessimistic or does it, and I'll give us a spolsom leeway. Does it depend on the situation or even mood?
00:39:40.22
Mike
Um, yes.
00:39:44.20
Mike
Um, you know, as you were, you know, clearly as you were asking it, and i was thinking about it.
00:39:49.42
Bill
and Pondering.
00:39:50.79
Mike
Right. Um, you know, honestly, ah I'm about 50, 50 now. Yes. It certainly depends on mood and in situation and whatever, but, um,
00:40:02.10
Mike
Yeah, you know, I think it it pretty balanced. There's that word.
00:40:06.34
Bill
Right.
00:40:06.50
Mike
um It balances out today. You know, I mean, clearly, yeah. You know, before I got sober, I was, you know, probably ninety ten pessimistic. um Yeah. And today it's, you know, I'm a realist, so I'm not going to be, you know, strawberries and orgasms. Hi, Heidi.
00:40:23.62
Mike
Um, all the time.
00:40:25.66
Bill
Right.
00:40:25.66
Mike
Um, but yeah, you know, I am, I'm about 50, 50. I am pretty balanced between my the pessimism and my optimism. So I, you know, and trust me, I'm, I'm really fucking grateful.
00:40:33.24
Bill
Right.
00:40:36.98
Mike
I've got it there. And I don't, and I don't see it, you know, um, you know, again, you know, situation and mood and whatever, it flips back and forth a little bit, but for the most part, um,
00:40:39.34
Bill
Yeah.
00:40:51.00
Mike
Yeah, I'm fairly optimistic that I'm going to be pessimistic, and I'm fairly pessimistic that I'm going to be optimistic.
00:40:57.94
Bill
Yeah, you know, and the funny part is, and the reason I was kind of giggling at that, I was thinking the same thing. You know, I am optimistic to the point where I know, I know well enough, we've been doing this thing long enough and taking plenty of direction and thankfully got our heads, you know, that the pop happened some years ago for the most part um of our heads popping out of our asses.
00:41:15.77
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:41:18.23
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:41:18.46
Bill
So I know for a fact that the shit's going to work out.
00:41:22.27
Mike
Right.
00:41:22.76
Bill
um But it doesn't take away from the fact that I'm a pessimist with an optimistic outlook.
00:41:28.95
Mike
Right. Yes.
00:41:30.04
Bill
And I think that's the only way that I can put it because Because like I said, I mean, ah same thing I always talk about.
00:41:31.74
Mike
ah
00:41:34.56
Bill
You know, I'm this, you know, I don't, again, I'm not negative. I just, I live in this well of whatever that I'm always trying to work my way out of um to a certain extent. You know, but I know shit's going to work out. But I, maybe, maybe I just need that. I need to grumble and go, oh, fuck this, blah, blah, blah.
00:41:50.16
Bill
Fuck you, motherfuckers.
00:41:50.35
Mike
Right.
00:41:51.54
Bill
Yeah, but it's going to be okay. It's okay.
00:41:52.77
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:41:53.23
Bill
It's all right.
00:41:54.29
Mike
Yeah, we're all doomed, but we're going to be all right.
00:41:57.53
Bill
yeah Let me fucking grumble for a minute. I know shit's going to be okay, but I want to grumble.
00:42:03.20
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:42:04.01
Bill
Just for a minute or two. That's it.
00:42:05.09
Mike
Right.
00:42:05.33
Bill
I'm not going like go to live in my grumble.
00:42:07.49
Mike
Right. And again, you know, I look around and I go, yeah, we're fucked. We're we're seriously fucked, but we're going to be okay.
00:42:15.48
Bill
yeah it
00:42:16.29
Mike
I'm going to be okay. I don't know about the rest of you assholes, but I feel kind of sorry for some of you, but I'm going to be all right.
00:42:20.12
Bill
Right?
00:42:24.61
Mike
It's going to be, you know, it's going to be on fire around me and it's going to smell real bad, but um I'm going to be okay with it.
00:42:31.85
Bill
Yeah, it just, i mean, we, the the biggest thing, you know, and I see it too, you know, i go to the gas station, I go to the fucking grocery store and um i I watch, especially when, you know, my money's tight like it is.
00:42:41.87
Bill
I i watch what i what I buy and I know how much shit costs.
00:42:42.29
Mike
ah
00:42:45.18
Bill
I know the thing, I know how much I paid for stuff. um I pay attention to it. I'm not a, mom used to, and she did, she had to, you know, she had a list and then she had this little, it was almost like, did I ever tell you about this? It was like a, um It looked like a plastic stopwatch, but you could add money on it, you know?
00:43:02.49
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:43:03.32
Bill
And so she had like a handheld, almost like adding machine. So as she was going, yeah.
00:43:06.02
Mike
Yeah, I remember those. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:43:08.05
Bill
And she was going through the grocery store and I never thought anything of it, you know, but I know she what she was doing.
00:43:09.70
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:43:12.72
Bill
She's like, you know, if I'm i'm getting to this certain point, you know, we we don't need, you know, we can have Cheerios versus, you know, Captain Crunch.
00:43:15.31
Mike
Yeah. Right.
00:43:20.39
Bill
So i I know what she was doing and, you know, she...
00:43:20.79
Mike
Right.
00:43:24.02
Bill
I'll say it again. We never knew. don't remember ever knowing or ever feeling like we had no fucking money.
00:43:30.64
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:43:30.87
Bill
um But I know based on what she told us and stories and i'll looking back, I know that she didn't have a lot of money and she struggled, but we never felt that, which but give her all the credit in the world for it.
00:43:33.29
Mike
Sure.
00:43:37.27
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm. Right.
00:43:41.07
Bill
You know, um, and you know, to this day, I mean, there's certain things I'm like, God, I don't i don't really, I don't need to spend $6 on a fucking jar of pickles. I want them, you know, but I don't need to, you know, and can I, so can I buy this versus that type of thing?
00:43:49.30
Mike
Uh-huh. Right.
00:43:53.99
Bill
So we all see it. And then, you know, to see the the fucking knob and all the politicians and all those sort of things.
00:43:58.22
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:43:59.48
Bill
And, um,
00:44:00.88
Mike
Well, just, you know, you talk about, you know, being in the grocery store or being at the gas station and looking at some of these fuckers and knowing that their favorite show in the entire world is The Masked Singer.
00:44:13.64
Mike
It's like, oh my God, I'm surrounded by these people.
00:44:17.88
Bill
Right. Yeah. Yeah. I got you. It just, yeah. I, I don't know. I, I just, I, I see people online. I see the posts, I see all this different stuff and you know, people are so angry and, um, and, and tied up and just wrapped up in, in all these different things.
00:44:32.29
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:44:33.62
Bill
And again, um like you just said, you know, I don't think that either one of us, well, I'm not even don't think neither one of us are blind to the fucking tragedies that are happening in certain circumstances.
00:44:42.23
Mike
Yes. Mm-hmm.
00:44:44.26
Bill
We're not blind to the fucking bullshit that's going on.
00:44:46.87
Mike
Right.
00:44:47.14
Bill
Um, but I'll be fucking damned if I'm going to let that ruin my life, you know?
00:44:50.91
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:44:51.87
Bill
Um, now granted we are not, uh, we are not highly affected by it. Maybe, you know, there's, you know, again, certain individuals and classes of people and all those sorts of things.
00:44:56.20
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
00:45:01.11
Bill
I'm on, I'm on the phone every once in a while and trying to get ahold of a business owner in whatever state, let's just say Texas. And, um, I talked to this one guy and he's like, he goes, goes, my business isn't running anymore.
00:45:12.71
Bill
And I said, what do you mean? He goes, I got deported. He goes, I had a great business, but he goes, I came on, he goes, I'm not afraid to tell you about goes, I came on a visa, whatever, and he goes, I let it run, and he goes, I get fucking deported.
00:45:24.72
Bill
He goes, i my business is there, you know but i can't I'm not.
00:45:25.05
Mike
All
00:45:28.42
Bill
He's like, I don't know, whenever I work my shit out, maybe I'll come back there, maybe I'll pay my bill.
00:45:32.37
Mike
right.
00:45:33.13
Bill
And I'm like, and then I talked to a couple other people like, oh yeah yeah he yeah, he's back in Mexico now. You're, you're not going to get ahold of him.
00:45:37.70
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:45:38.44
Bill
Like, okay, I got it again, not laughing at him. I'm just like, okay, there it is. That's the reality.
00:45:43.45
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:45:45.06
Bill
But, uh, I don't know. Yeah. It's the, uh, again, you know, I, think I'm a pessimist with a, with an optimistic attitude and like you 50, 50, that's a great way to put it.
00:45:50.98
Mike
Yep.
00:45:52.56
Bill
It, it, it depends on, it depends on the mood, you know, how, how that, uh, how that balance beam is going to sit one day or the other.
00:45:52.87
Mike
Yeah.
00:45:58.84
Bill
And, You know, I think both of us try to do our best to stay, stay on the optimistic side.
00:46:02.79
Mike
Yeah.
00:46:04.27
Bill
Right.
00:46:04.64
Mike
Yeah, I try. Some of these fuckers make it really difficult for me, but yes, I try.
00:46:11.66
Bill
Yeah, that's, ah that's pretty much, that's pretty much all we could do. Okay. Well, um, all right. We got to, I got other, I got a little, other little highlights here and some other shit, but, uh, I don't know, looking at the time, what do you think, Mike, should we take a break?
00:46:21.18
Mike
yeah You know what? I think we need to take a break, and we'll be right back with some dead people right after these words from our sponsors.
00:46:40.22
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome back.
00:46:43.09
Mike
How's that for optimistic?
00:46:43.42
Bill
And well, you know what? um We were going to get to the dead people anyhow. And I figured that yeah after the break would would be the best time.
00:46:49.27
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:46:51.58
Bill
But I'm i'm glad you I'm glad you used to that.
00:46:51.79
Mike
Right?
00:46:53.46
Bill
So, you know, there was um I know there was at least and this was a weird fucking week. You know, um I mean, we I think everyone knows Ozzy died.
00:46:59.45
Mike
Yeah.
00:47:03.11
Bill
Everyone knows Hulk Hogan died.
00:47:03.14
Mike
Right. Uh-huh.
00:47:05.32
Bill
um Malcolm Jamal Warner drowned.
00:47:08.16
Mike
Right, right.
00:47:09.17
Bill
fucking Costa Rica, the tide took his ass out.
00:47:11.51
Mike
Yup.
00:47:11.68
Bill
He was, he was our age, couple years younger.
00:47:13.39
Mike
Yeah.
00:47:13.88
Bill
um I just saw today, you know, Chuck Mangione is right.
00:47:17.12
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
00:47:18.63
Bill
Yeah, so he died. And I was thinking, I'm like, motherfucker. I mean, he well, he was, out of all of them, ah he was like 84 or something like that.
00:47:25.31
Mike
Sure.
00:47:26.04
Bill
You know i mean?
00:47:26.08
Mike
Yeah.
00:47:26.89
Bill
He died because he was 80 fucking four, you know?
00:47:28.70
Mike
Right. Right. Yeah.
00:47:31.19
Bill
ah The way that I look at it, no offense to him or anyone else that hits that, but if you hit 80 or goddamn close to it these days and yeah you were a decent person, fucking see you.
00:47:37.64
Mike
right yeah
00:47:40.92
Bill
Farewell in a lovely way.
00:47:40.95
Mike
Yeah, right. Yes.
00:47:42.65
Bill
Thank you. And it reminded me of, and I had to look up the songs. I couldn't figure out the name of it, but it's called Feel So Good was ah like one of his big hits.
00:47:50.24
Mike
Yeah. No, it was, yeah, kind of the only hit, but yeah.
00:47:54.10
Bill
Was it really? I don't know.
00:47:54.86
Mike
I mean, yeah.
00:47:55.02
Bill
I wasn't, I remember that one because that was one of mom's favorite songs.
00:47:57.81
Mike
Yeah. Boy, that was huge.
00:48:00.03
Bill
Yeah.
00:48:00.08
Mike
It was a monster. Yeah.
00:48:02.47
Bill
It was Monster Jerry. But um yeah, there was some other, some other lady that died too. And I can't remember who, who it was.
00:48:08.85
Mike
ah Connie Stevens.
00:48:10.60
Bill
There you go. There you go.
00:48:11.31
Mike
Yeah.
00:48:11.56
Bill
And i couldn't remember where she was from.
00:48:13.86
Mike
Right. Well, she was a singer in like the 50s.
00:48:17.29
Bill
Was she? Okay. I couldn't, that one I couldn't remember, but, but yeah, fucking, fucking Ozzy.
00:48:17.93
Mike
Yeah.
00:48:21.11
Mike
and Connie. No, Connie Francis.
00:48:21.66
Bill
I mean, Francis. Okay.
00:48:23.88
Mike
Yeah, not Stevens.
00:48:23.94
Bill
Yeah. Connie.
00:48:25.04
Mike
Stevens was an actress. i had whatever. Some Connie broad from a long time ago.
00:48:28.44
Bill
Yeah.
00:48:29.49
Mike
Again, old.
00:48:29.86
Bill
But I, I would have, I would have bought it either way. You were fine. You were fine.
00:48:33.68
Mike
Right.
00:48:34.00
Bill
So somebody's out there yelling at the recording going, it was Connie.
00:48:35.62
Mike
Yeah, right.
00:48:37.42
Bill
This.
00:48:38.06
Mike
It was Connie Francis, not Steven. What the fuck's wrong with you?
00:48:40.10
Bill
Yeah. If you guys got a minute, we'll tell you exactly what's wrong with us. Yeah, if you listen to it, if you listen, you don't even have to ask a question, what's wrong with us.
00:48:46.09
Mike
need more than a minute.
00:48:50.86
Bill
We just say shit. Half the time I'll listen back to the recording, I'll say the opposite. i'll I'll say whatever the opposite word is. It changes my statement into a negative than a positive.
00:48:59.20
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:48:59.52
Bill
And i'm I'm going, I'm like, did I just say that I did do that versus didn't? I'm like, Jesus fucking Christ.
00:49:03.31
Mike
Right. Right.
00:49:05.03
Bill
And then neither of us catches it.
00:49:06.51
Mike
Yeah, right. thanks
00:49:07.63
Bill
Yeah. yeah All right. So, um, I don't know. Out of all of those, I mean, Hulk Hogan surprised me. That was cardiac arrest. I mean, the guys in, I thought he was in decent shape. I mean, he wasn't that old, but no, probably steroid it up and whatever.
00:49:16.25
Mike
Nah. Nah. I mean... Oh, yeah.
00:49:20.72
Bill
Right. Yeah. So yeah.
00:49:22.33
Mike
Yeah, a little bit of cocaine in there, too.
00:49:22.40
Bill
Who do I, I wasn't really.
00:49:25.06
Mike
Oh, God, yeah.
00:49:25.17
Bill
Okay. Okay. Yeah. See, I guess I,
00:49:26.97
Mike
Come on, all the all them wrestler dudes from the eighty s Jesus Christ, they're all jacked up.
00:49:31.36
Bill
Yeah, and you know what? i I knew him. I never followed him very closely. I never followed professional wrestling wrestling very closely.
00:49:37.27
Mike
now
00:49:38.09
Bill
So I didn't really know any of that, but I started thinking, I'm like, yeah you know, the lifestyle, whatever. I didn't know about the coke and whatever.
00:49:42.77
Mike
Yeah.
00:49:43.35
Bill
So yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:49:43.52
Mike
I mean, you see the wrestler, right? Yeah, right.
00:49:47.14
Bill
Okay.
00:49:47.30
Mike
Yeah.
00:49:48.21
Bill
and Good point. Good point. but um But yeah, Ozzy, you know, and, you know, so a couple of things about about that.
00:49:53.27
Mike
yeah All right.
00:49:54.23
Bill
i
00:49:54.70
Mike
Fozzie.
00:49:55.65
Bill
yeah But I forgot to bring it up, um you know, whatever it was, the one after they had the final Black Sabbath thing.
00:50:01.97
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:50:02.48
Bill
Did you hear how much money they they made for that charity?
00:50:04.87
Mike
Oh, yeah, like almost a billion.
00:50:08.20
Bill
It was like, ah I thought it was $190 million.
00:50:10.79
Mike
Yeah. Okay.
00:50:13.18
Bill
But it but what whatever.
00:50:13.24
Mike
All right. Yeah.
00:50:15.63
Bill
It was the, whatever amount it was, it was the most that any charity event had ever had ever made, which which kind of blew my mind.
00:50:19.52
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
00:50:21.78
Bill
But I'm like, I'm like, God damn, good for them, you know?
00:50:23.87
Mike
Yeah.
00:50:24.36
Bill
And then um I'm flipping through either Facebook. I might have been through Facebook on at lunchtime. And then I popped on Instagram and I saw some, again, like Ozzy playing a guitar and it looked like something coming out of his body. I'm like, well, that's kind of a weird picture.
00:50:36.94
Bill
And then I saw it later. I'm like, did he fucking die? And I'm like, like you know, because you think about it, like, I didn't hear it. I mean, okay, let's step back. I know he's had health issues for fucking years.
00:50:48.52
Bill
I get it.
00:50:48.88
Mike
Right, yeah.
00:50:49.47
Bill
um He was never, and he hasn't been in great health for the last handful of years. But um I didn't, I hadn't heard anything of a critical nature.
00:50:52.79
Mike
Right.
00:50:55.96
Bill
And then, you know, just, okay, he's dead, you know. So it it kind of, it was it was surprising.
00:50:58.86
Mike
Yeah.
00:51:00.93
Bill
But, and then, then I'm like, well, one way the other we're going to bring it up. Because I was thinking that, you know, i' from the Black Sabbath side of things, whatever, I'm like, I think you... i Kind of like them. Yes.
00:51:12.21
Bill
Then no.
00:51:12.22
Mike
Oh, Sabbath?
00:51:12.77
Bill
And yeah, that's what I thought.
00:51:13.41
Mike
Yeah, yeah.
00:51:15.01
Bill
That's what I thought.
00:51:16.02
Mike
All right.
00:51:16.37
Bill
But yes, yes.
00:51:16.38
Mike
Well, I mean, you know. All right. You want to... Ozzy was always the weakest link in every band he was ever in.
00:51:27.10
Mike
Okay? Somebody's got to say it. I just did. um i loved Ozzy. Okay? Ozzy was a character. Ozzy was, ah you know, i bigger than life. And, you know, he was a unique individual. He was fucking Ozzy. There's no other...
00:51:44.59
Mike
But as far as, you know, being a great songwriter, a great vocalist, no, none of those things.
00:51:50.68
Bill
Right. Right.
00:51:53.91
Mike
But he was fucking Ozzy. he He, you know, he epitomized fucking rock and roll, man.
00:51:55.53
Bill
right
00:51:59.79
Mike
God bless him. I loved Ozzy, but, you know, he wasn't, you know, I'm sitting... All the tributes and all the stuff, everybody's missing the point. He was fucking Ozzy.
00:52:10.31
Mike
You know, he was, I mean, watch him. The guy was an awful front man. you know, he's standing up there bouncing around, clapping his hands. I mean, he's an idiot.
00:52:19.27
Bill
and
00:52:20.58
Mike
He was awful. But, um, the cool thing about Ozzy, and we're going to bring it back to some sobriety shit is, you know, he was sober for pretty close to 10 years when he died.
00:52:32.91
Mike
um, He, you know, he found, he found some peace and some serenity finally. And that's just a fucking beautiful thing. And that's something to be celebrated.
00:52:43.78
Bill
Right.
00:52:43.77
Mike
You know, guy was a, he wasn't a great vocalist. He wasn't, he didn't write shit. Um, you know, I mean, his biggest hit, Mama, I'm Coming Home, fucking Lemmy wrote. Um,
00:52:55.20
Bill
hey
00:52:57.38
Mike
You know, i mean, yeah, you know, Geezer wrote all the lyrics and the the Sabbath stuff. I love Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath had the most, one of the most incredible rhythm sections ever in rock and roll.
00:53:09.74
Mike
Ever, ever, ever. You know, Tony Iommi is a fucking riff master. Beautiful. Great. And then there was fucking Ozzy, who got in the band because his dad bought him a PA.
00:53:25.24
Mike
You know, so, you know, yes, Ozzy was fucking Ozzy.
00:53:26.82
Bill
Right.
00:53:28.81
Mike
He was an incredible character, entertainer, fucking brand, beautiful rock and roll, wonderful. But he wasn't all that.
00:53:40.60
Mike
So everybody settled down.
00:53:40.85
Bill
right
00:53:43.23
Bill
Well, you know, and here's here's the thing, and I and i thought from, ah quite honestly, that that's what I, for whatever reason, and I don't know that we've ever sat down and had, I'm going to say probably not, but probably in passing, we but we've never really sat down and had a conversation about um just Black Sabbath or just Ozzy or even both.
00:54:00.77
Bill
You know what i mean?
00:54:01.35
Mike
Right.
00:54:01.52
Bill
um But i for whatever reason, I'm like, I know you were, okay, but part of me, I'm like, I'd be surprised if you were a Sabbath fan because I thought you were based on everything I know about you.
00:54:08.78
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah. Right.
00:54:12.01
Bill
But I'm like, I think there's something weird about Ozzy with him. but i But I don't know.
00:54:14.98
Mike
Yeah.
00:54:16.16
Bill
But here's here's the thing. And here's the reason that, just to explain, you know, from my, I don't even want to say in my defense, but my position with my friend Mike when it comes to music, um I ask him sometimes, so what do you think of this?
00:54:26.51
Mike
Right. Right.
00:54:29.97
Mike
Right.
00:54:30.14
Bill
And every once in a while, I get i get shocked either in on the positive or the negative, or just ah the medium.
00:54:38.35
Mike
Right.
00:54:38.47
Bill
I'm like, really?
00:54:38.66
Mike
No.
00:54:39.62
Bill
You have no opinion. You're like, eh.
00:54:41.35
Mike
yeah
00:54:41.50
Bill
I'm like, okay, I'll say this name. I'm like, eh.
00:54:43.56
Mike
right yeah
00:54:44.79
Bill
I'm like, eh, take him or leave him. Good, bad. Eh.
00:54:47.56
Mike
right
00:54:48.30
Bill
I'm like, okay, so you don't hate him? No.
00:54:49.91
Mike
no
00:54:49.97
Bill
you know But I don't really like him either. I'm like, okay, so no issues.
00:54:51.39
Mike
right
00:54:53.50
Bill
No, no. Eh.
00:54:54.35
Mike
no
00:54:55.69
Bill
And then, you know, i whatever had happened, you know, we were like,
00:54:57.56
Mike
Big bowl of okay.
00:55:00.18
Bill
yeah know, whatever happened to me. But this is the same guy that wants Eric Clapton dead, but also the same guy that, you know, went, you know, saw Boy George or Culture Club at the time.
00:55:04.49
Mike
Yeah.
00:55:08.79
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:55:10.28
Bill
The same guy that likes the song A Horse With No Fucking Name.
00:55:13.58
Mike
Oh, I love America.
00:55:14.06
Bill
um you know. And, you know, and then so I hopefully everyone can understand why I'm sometimes confused about where ah what I'm going to get. But here's what I always appreciate about ah again, about my friend Mike is it's always fucking entertaining to me.
00:55:29.53
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:55:30.19
Bill
And it doesn't matter.
00:55:30.37
Mike
All
00:55:31.35
Bill
I don't care if he if I happen to play a song that he hates or I tell him a band that I that I've liked or listened to, whatever the case is, it's always entertaining to me.
00:55:36.97
Mike
right.
00:55:39.80
Bill
I remember sitting at Kathy's one time we were talking about whatever it was and in the Backstreet Boys came up somehow. And I said, i said, oh I said, there's a few of the songs. If you look to me, you're like, you like the Backstreet Boys?
00:55:51.49
Bill
I'm like, not as a band, but I said, there's two or three songs that that are location songs for me.
00:55:54.95
Mike
ah hu right
00:55:57.01
Bill
They remind me of people, places, and things that are that make me really happy and they're great memories.
00:56:01.72
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:56:02.19
Bill
And you're just like, well, okay, you went out with your life.
00:56:04.47
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah, yeah.
00:56:05.67
Bill
and i And I know you don't give a fuck about the Backstreet Boys, you know, and neither do i you know, but they're, again, those those things. So Um, yeah. And it just, I don't know that that's kind of what I thought, but I, I don't know the, the thing of it is from in everything you just said about, about Ozzy, I think is, um, I agree with because he was, I mean, um I, I played a couple of songs just the other day when I was running up to the store, um, after, after he had died, I'm like, there's a few songs that I really ah enjoy and other ones.
00:56:27.14
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:56:31.61
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:56:32.14
Bill
I'm just kind of like, you know, I've heard them for fucking ever. They just are what they are.
00:56:34.81
Mike
Right.
00:56:35.91
Bill
Um, but just playing a couple of songs like that. Now it's like every, every mix of songs I play, they throw some Ozzy in there, which is fine. I'm fine with it.
00:56:43.37
Mike
Right. Right.
00:56:44.58
Bill
Um, you know, but in listening to it, I'm like, nobody's got it. I've never, ever heard a song and been, God, is that, that sort of sounds like Ozzy. Is that, is that Ozzy?
00:56:53.37
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Right. No, yeah, you definitely know. Exactly.
00:56:57.52
Bill
Right. Yeah.
00:56:58.64
Mike
Right, which I appreciate. It's not that it's fucking fantastic, but it's fucking Ozzy.
00:57:00.25
Bill
I know. Yeah. Yeah.
00:57:03.54
Mike
Yeah, right, which is which is more than enough.
00:57:07.45
Bill
Right. Yeah. And then, you know, the back to the show, the Osbournes and all that stuff. And they had him on, they were talking about him in the morning show because they had him on there a couple of times. And, um, you know, they kind of, they kind of manhandled him a little bit because he was going off on a tangent about something.
00:57:14.98
Mike
Right.
00:57:19.98
Bill
Like one of the guys like, come on, Ozzie, that's not true. Whatever you're talking about, whatever, let's get back to whatever it was.
00:57:24.83
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:57:24.89
Bill
So they kind of fucked with him a little bit. He just got, came back to, you know, he got real again, but, um, yeah, it's just, I don't know. It, it kind of, it just, it is what it is, but, um, surprising only in the fact that it's like, not that he was on his deathbed and like, you know, not that it was somebody was on, it was like, it wasn't like Ozzy death watch.
00:57:38.36
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:57:41.50
Bill
And then, you know, then he died.
00:57:42.00
Mike
Right.
00:57:43.37
Bill
It's just all of a sudden I'm scrolling through fucking Facebook. I'm like, Jesus Christ, fucking Ozzy died.
00:57:48.54
Mike
Yeah.
00:57:49.25
Bill
the fuck?
00:57:51.87
Bill
So anyhow, now that was that was it. And then, yeah, it's just a handful of people that were in there. And, yeah, the one with the whole Chuck Pangino thing that just reminded me of Mom in that song. And I don't know.
00:58:00.84
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:58:01.79
Bill
It's just all the all these things. I mean, fuck, Ozzy's been. That's what a lot of you these people like, he's been around my entire life. I'm like, ah same thing again.
00:58:08.52
Mike
Uh-huh. Well, yeah.
00:58:09.93
Bill
You know, yeah every time there's some of these people that died that are older people, older than us.
00:58:14.62
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:58:14.92
Bill
He's been around my entire life. Yeah, I know.
00:58:16.74
Mike
Yeah, that's that's how math works.
00:58:17.45
Bill
do this Do the fucking math. We get it.
00:58:20.68
Mike
Yes. Mm-hmm.
00:58:21.03
Bill
Now, saying that he was a part of your life, I get it.
00:58:21.16
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. yes
00:58:24.00
Bill
I get it. So here's here's my question. I know that Lemmy was a big one big one for you when when he had passed, but du is that your, and I'm not putting words in your mouth, but out musicians that have passed and in your adult life or mis musicians that were around, was there one that, you know, I don't even want to say affected you, but one that kind of said, fuck, really fuck on that one.
00:58:28.83
Mike
yeah
00:58:44.45
Mike
Yeah. I mean, yeah, let me definitely, um you know, this will throw you for away i hit Jerry Reed. um
00:58:51.59
Bill
Oh, no, no, no. That's, i get that one.
00:58:52.97
Mike
Yeah.
00:58:53.51
Bill
Yeah.
00:58:53.87
Mike
Right. Yeah. I mean, that was tough um just cause you know, he's yeah. I, whatever, man, I love Jerry Reed. Always have, you know, as a performer, as an actor, as a writer, as a guitar player, Jesus Christ, he was amazing guitar player.
00:59:05.13
Bill
Right.
00:59:07.91
Mike
um Yeah. You know, that was a rough one. um Yeah. I don't know. Yeah. You know, I mean, You know, the ones that get older and there's there's a bunch of them and it's going to keep fucking coming, man.
00:59:20.12
Mike
You know, I mean, there's, you know, in their 80s and their 90s. I mean, clearly when Lennon was shot, that was a fucking, yeah, that was horrible.
00:59:27.15
Bill
Oh, yeah.
00:59:29.12
Mike
um You know, I mean, I was 14. fourteen You were, what, 12? Yeah.
00:59:33.89
Bill
Yeah, we were in, and we i remember we were in Pittsburgh at the time, and I remember we were driving down Route 8 in Pittsburgh when either it came on the radio or I remember specifically that either mom talked about or whatever the deal was.
00:59:34.54
Mike
All
00:59:37.28
Mike
Yeah.
00:59:40.38
Mike
Yeah.
00:59:42.64
Mike
Yeah.
00:59:45.33
Bill
But yeah, I remember when it happened.
00:59:46.66
Mike
Yeah.
00:59:46.80
Bill
Yeah.
00:59:46.87
Mike
I mean, I was, you know, um, I actually it just moved to California and, uh, um, yeah, you know, like a big part of the nation, man. Fucking, I had Monday night football on in the background, you know, sitting there doing my homework or some bullshit.
01:00:01.98
Mike
And and yeah, they came on and said, John Lennon just got shot. ah What the fuck, man?
01:00:07.09
Bill
Right.
01:00:07.59
Mike
Um, yeah. So that was, you know, and I was a huge Beatles fan when I was a kid, whatever. So yeah, that one was rough. Um, Eh, I don't know, man. They're all going to be dropping dead soon, you know, so.
01:00:19.36
Mike
Yeah, gird your loins, kids, because, you know, Mick Jagger and fucking... It's coming.
01:00:27.37
Bill
Yeah, well, they the what the one meme that I saw, they showed they showed a picture of Ozzy and then Keith Richards. And they said, ah the the line under Keith Richards was, Keith Richards worried now.
01:00:39.93
Mike
Yeah. chia
01:00:40.81
Bill
And I'm like, emily Jesus Christ. I don't know, I've heard Keith Richards' name brought up a couple of times. And then somebody's like, somebody find Willie Nelson and put bubble wrap on him.
01:00:48.24
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
01:00:53.55
Bill
Yeah, like like, yeah, Willie's fucking old as fucking dirt. But I mean, what do you again, what are you going to You know?
01:00:58.16
Mike
Yeah.
01:00:58.67
Bill
um Yeah, the one, and I've talked about it before, but I mean, Eddie Van Halen was probably my big one.
01:01:03.41
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
01:01:03.97
Bill
You know i didn't cry over it or anything like that. But I mean, he was, he just part of my, you know, from the time I was a kid, you know, whatever that was, 75, think, seven, 78,
01:01:10.39
Mike
Right.
01:01:13.12
Bill
when we're
01:01:13.41
Mike
In 70, the first Van Halen album.
01:01:14.32
Bill
seven seventy eight maybe
01:01:16.62
Mike
78, yeah, somewhere there.
01:01:18.24
Bill
Yeah. So, I mean, you figure, you know, from the time I was, you know, 10 years old, because I had that, I had that first album, you know, and that first album was, can we call it legendary?
01:01:21.85
Mike
Right. Right.
01:01:27.20
Mike
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
01:01:28.66
Bill
You know? And yeah, just a fucking, just great. I mean, Taylor Hawkins shocked me, you know, because that was, that was what it was, but um I don't know.
01:01:33.27
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
01:01:36.05
Bill
I mean, but yeah, like you said, ah Jerry, Jerry Lewis or Jerry Lee. um I mean, I, I get that, you know, I mean, Jerry Reed, I say Jerry Lee?
01:01:41.86
Mike
Jerry Reed.
01:01:44.37
Bill
I'm sorry.
01:01:44.70
Mike
You see
01:01:44.77
Bill
Jerry Reed. i apologize.
01:01:46.28
Mike
I mean, Jerry Lee Lewis was older as shit and all beat up too.
01:01:46.40
Bill
apologize.
01:01:51.62
Bill
Yeah, I meant Jerry Reed. Sorry about that.
01:01:54.64
Mike
Right.
01:01:54.89
Bill
But but no.
01:01:55.16
Mike
How about Jerry Lewis? Did that affect you when he died?
01:01:58.44
Bill
and No. No. Not at all. Not at all. No. No. I don't think so.
01:02:05.29
Mike
right.
01:02:05.46
Bill
Jerry Garcia.
01:02:05.48
Mike
How about when Seinfeld dies?
01:02:07.22
Bill
Jerry Garcia. No, it didn't affect me.
01:02:08.31
Mike
now No. Did a little dance when that happened.
01:02:12.00
Bill
Yeah, um I mean, Seinfeld, I like Seinfeld. I mean, I'd be bummed out when he you know he's gone.
01:02:14.36
Mike
Sure. Sure.
01:02:16.40
Bill
so I just enjoy him as a human being, you know, and what a comedian to whatever it is. But I don't know. it just a um Chris Cornell, I mean, I love fucking Chris Cornell, you know.
01:02:23.27
Mike
Right.
01:02:24.82
Bill
um I don't know that, you know, you take a look back at a lot of these, you know. I mean, Kurt Cobain, you know. I mean, he was revolutionary in the type of music that that they did.
01:02:29.62
Mike
Right.
01:02:33.62
Bill
And so, well, Kurt Cornell was too, you know. I'm bringing all that shit around.
01:02:35.81
Mike
Right.
01:02:37.14
Bill
But I don't know. It just, it is what it is. Ozzy was fucking, like you said, it's the best way to put it. Ozzy was fucking Ozzy.
01:02:41.99
Mike
Yeah, exactly.
01:02:42.24
Bill
Right.
01:02:43.20
Mike
Yeah. I mean, and there was you know nobody like him and and and he was like nobody. And and yeah, you know, so that's that's what was cool about Ozzy.
01:02:52.32
Bill
right
01:02:52.35
Mike
He was fucking Ozzy. Yeah. Other than that, he was Ozzy. Right. Right.
01:02:58.46
Bill
No. and And you know what? I agree with you. And I don't think that's, I don't think that's a harsh way to explain it. I think that's, that's a truth that it's the same thing we talked about when mom died, you know um just because somebody died, you don't have to, you know, they're, they didn't just become a fucking saint.
01:03:07.66
Mike
right
01:03:12.78
Bill
They didn't everything they did, you know, they weren't, they just because Ozzy died doesn't make him the best musician on earth.
01:03:13.14
Mike
Right.
01:03:18.20
Bill
Now your opinions of all those different things.
01:03:18.20
Mike
No.
01:03:20.43
Bill
I mean, now when you mentioned, I'm like, okay, you know, I, I never knew or paid attention enough to him or any other band member,
01:03:26.41
Mike
z
01:03:26.87
Bill
Um, with the exception, I mean, again, Eddie Van Halen, I knew he was a fucking shit, you what mean?
01:03:30.43
Mike
Right.
01:03:30.62
Bill
It doesn't take you, you could be blind. You could be, well, Stevie wonder knew that Eddie Van Halen was good.
01:03:34.54
Mike
ja
01:03:37.24
Bill
Sorry, Stevie.
01:03:37.27
Mike
Right.
01:03:38.29
Bill
Sorry, Stevie.
01:03:39.14
Mike
Yeah, he'll be going soon, too.
01:03:40.91
Bill
Yeah. You won't see that coming. Oh,
01:03:42.85
Mike
No. Or will he?
01:03:46.97
Bill
Jesus Christ. That makes it even weirder. Okay. But, um, no, anyhow, I, I, I don't know. You know, he was, he was fucking Aussie. I think we can, we can leave it at that.
01:03:54.24
Mike
yeah exactly.
01:03:55.39
Bill
um All right. So this was just kind of funny. And this is just, I wrote this down only because I i do have a point of asking this question. So i'm watching this show on, on Netflix and it's called untamed.
01:04:07.30
Bill
um And basically it's a, yeah it's kind of a murder mystery type of thing. Some short series on, that's the big thing. Netflix does a lot of these eight or nine or 10 episode, like mini series type of things now, um which, you know, there's a lot them. I've, I've enjoyed them. And this one takes, takes place in Yosemite. So it's beautiful and all this different stuff. And,
01:04:26.87
Bill
So this chick ends up dying. It's positive. You know, it's a, it's a good, it's a good feel good show, but she ends up, she ends up dying.
01:04:31.31
Mike
Sure. All right.
01:04:33.56
Bill
She fell off a cliff, mysterious death, or obviously looking into it the whole bit. Um, but they try to ID her. Okay. And they ran, they ran fingerprints. They're like, oh runner fingerprints. We'll get an ID.
01:04:46.09
Mike
Yeah.
01:04:46.17
Bill
It comes back and like, yeah, those don't match. And I'm like, was like, See, fucking happen, you know, and that my question was to you, Mike, um when, when you kick it, especially if you're out in the middle of the woods, you have no wallet or anything like that.
01:04:53.93
Mike
Yes. Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
01:05:00.34
Bill
if they run your fingerprints, going they're going find you, right?
01:05:04.06
Mike
Oh, yeah, they're going find me. Right. Uh-huh. Mm-hmm.
01:05:06.96
Bill
Okay. And they're going to find me too. And I, I had, I've been fingerprinted for negative reasons a handful of times, but I, I've had to do it.
01:05:08.83
Mike
Right.
01:05:12.52
Mike
aha
01:05:14.83
Bill
One, one place for a, a company I applied for a job for, they went, it was like an extensive background check, including fingerprinting.
01:05:20.64
Mike
right
01:05:21.33
Bill
I remember what job it was. Maybe it was sort a bank I applied with years ago. Um, but I know I did it for, I had to do it for getting licenses for company I worked with. I, we had out of state licenses. I was like the, the manager taking the test. So I had to be fingerprinted, same deal.
01:05:37.36
Bill
Um, I mean, so I've been fingerprinted on a positive standpoint, probably three or four times, you know, and I'm thinking, i just don't, and I mean, yeah, Grant, she was in her twenties, I think maybe twenty mid twenties, but I'm just like, how do you, mean,
01:05:42.59
Mike
All right.
01:05:47.77
Mike
Right. Uh-huh.
01:05:52.34
Bill
Is it just because I'm a fucking degenerate that I've been arrested five times that I've been fingerprinted for?
01:05:56.29
Mike
Yeah.
01:05:57.10
Bill
Okay.
01:05:58.30
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:05:59.20
Bill
It's just my my first thought was, how the fuck? This isn't real.
01:06:03.14
Mike
Oh, yeah.
01:06:04.62
Bill
Make it realistic.
01:06:05.56
Mike
Sure.
01:06:05.72
Bill
You can't find her by fingerprints.
01:06:07.58
Mike
Yeah.
01:06:07.72
Bill
Yeah.
01:06:08.35
Mike
Yeah. You know, I mean, you never get caught and, you know, or you never do anything to be caught and, you know, whatever.
01:06:12.31
Bill
Yeah.
01:06:15.06
Mike
I mean, there are people, you know, I mean, I think, ah I think, I don't know, they like do it in school. I mean, I think I remember maybe the first time.
01:06:25.05
Bill
Oh, these days?
01:06:27.20
Mike
um i mean i think actually the first time when I was a kid in the 70s, we may have been fingerprinted in school.
01:06:32.39
Bill
Really?
01:06:33.06
Mike
Yeah. Right.
01:06:34.44
Bill
You know, if if we were, I don't i don't remember. um
01:06:37.77
Mike
Right.
01:06:39.19
Bill
I know, first of all...
01:06:39.20
Mike
But, yeah, I mean, you know, but, I mean, there are people who, you know, go through, certainly into, you know, your mid-20s, they go through their lives and there's no reason for them to be fingerprinted for anything.
01:06:49.72
Mike
So, yeah, makes sense.
01:06:50.22
Bill
Right? Yeah, I mean, first time for me would have...
01:06:53.23
Mike
Not to us, but it may.
01:06:55.97
Bill
I think by by the time I was, because I got my DUI in, what, 12, probably 94? ninety four God, shit, by that time, I'd probably been fingerprinted least twice, if not three times.
01:07:06.91
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:07:08.47
Bill
That would have been my third DUI.
01:07:10.68
Mike
Yeah.
01:07:12.09
Bill
But anyhow, I don't know. it just, again, mind-blowing. Nothing about anything except for the fact that it just blew my mind.
01:07:17.31
Mike
Right. Yeah.
01:07:18.53
Bill
I'm like, that's not fucking real. How could that happen?
01:07:20.52
Mike
All right.
01:07:21.39
Bill
Yeah. All right, so um I got a couple other fun things here in a minute, but I'm going to continue. As you joined us last week, I was going down a list of old shit that I had.
01:07:30.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:07:31.60
Bill
I'm going pick up where we left off.
01:07:31.95
Mike
yeah
01:07:33.90
Bill
How's that?
01:07:34.09
Mike
alright
01:07:35.59
Bill
right, so speaking of the 24-hour book, God, God, God, God. god god god ah No, sorry.
01:07:39.99
Mike
God, got God, God.
01:07:42.44
Bill
It says, I pray that I may delay action until I feel that I'm going that I'm doing the right thing. I pray that I may not rush in alone, okay?
01:07:52.35
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:07:52.44
Bill
So my parentheses is, do you feel like you rush into things or do you delay action?
01:07:52.55
Mike
Mm-hmm. Um...
01:07:56.96
Bill
Do you think that either one is your deal, Wade, or no? hey
01:08:02.59
Mike
um No, I mean, um i I procrastinate a little, a little still, you know, but not much, not much.
01:08:10.12
Bill
right
01:08:13.29
Mike
um You know, if there's something that needs to be done, I tend to do it fairly in a timely manner. oh And um yeah, and I certainly don't rush into things.
01:08:28.53
Mike
anymore um i don't so yeah yeah i i think i'm doing all right i'm both counts there
01:08:31.29
Bill
right
01:08:36.44
Bill
Yeah, and I know, well, I know I was worse in the first few years, shit, when I think back, and I mean, the rushing into stuff, yeah, I mean, I was just, I was ready to just, you know, fucking hit the ground running, and I wanted to do everything, and not thinking, whereas, ah you know, now, I'm, um I still,
01:08:44.90
Mike
right
01:08:49.12
Mike
right
01:08:54.06
Mike
mrs
01:08:54.33
Bill
Sometimes i'll I'll leap a little bit, but um not not as much because I mean, well, you know, I mean, i I've said it on here, bill you know, a hundred times probably by now.
01:08:56.16
Mike
right
01:09:03.01
Bill
um I don't, I've grown to the fact where I don't trust myself, you know?
01:09:06.90
Mike
Right.
01:09:07.59
Bill
And I think that's ah that's a good way to put it is that um I thought I trusted myself more when I didn't know any better. Like early and early in sobriety, I'm like, I'm fine now.
01:09:14.20
Mike
Of course. Yeah. Right. Yep.
01:09:17.88
Bill
Yeah.
01:09:18.19
Mike
Right. Yeah. Yeah.
01:09:20.17
Bill
this That was the old me. All my, my best thoughts and efforts were there, not anymore, but now I know better, you know?
01:09:24.52
Mike
right
01:09:26.78
Bill
So when I've got, you know, big decisions or stuff like that, I mean, I, you know, I talk about them.
01:09:26.82
Mike
yeah
01:09:31.00
Bill
I mean, they even with, uh, with planning these trips, you know, I'm looking at, uh, I was looking at trying to go someplace, um, for, cause I mean, we're going to be in Ohio and this and that kind of bouncing around over the next, next few weeks.
01:09:31.27
Mike
yeah
01:09:40.40
Mike
Right.
01:09:41.69
Bill
And, I was going to try to go someplace over Labor Day weekend, like wrap that week around. So I was someplace so I could be, you know, the three day thing, um you know, have more time kicking around.
01:09:50.32
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:09:52.91
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:09:53.39
Bill
But as I was looking around and I want to go to the southern part of Illinois, there's that Shawnee National Forest, because my thought was I don't want to go too far, um you know, kind of keep it again, you know, try kind of money down, you know, not spending hundreds on gas and whatever.
01:10:06.69
Mike
Sure.
01:10:08.61
Bill
Keep it semi close.
01:10:10.03
Mike
Yeah.
01:10:10.42
Bill
um But it's just, it's it's expensive, you know, and if I get a place that's relatively decent that I'm an hour and a half away, then I'm back into spending the money on gas. So I may just do a weekend thing, but really when it came down to, you know, like I'm better off, I can spend 275 bucks and, you know, for a weekend, basically a two night type of thing, 250, two, 250, rather than spending, you know, having to spend like, you know, six, $700. Yeah.
01:10:31.90
Mike
Right.
01:10:32.37
Bill
You know, but even when I'm looking at that stuff, um I start looking and then I let it sit. Then I'll look again, then I let it sit, then I'll reach out and then I let it sit.
01:10:40.47
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:10:40.68
Bill
um I do a lot of good forcast
01:10:45.61
Mike
Right.
01:10:46.47
Bill
ah good procrastinating, but I procrastinate in a bad way a lot too, you know, but I don't know.
01:10:48.40
Mike
Yes. Sure.
01:10:52.23
Bill
I guess you're you're right. i do I do both, but um thankfully I'm not as quick to jump as I as i was 10 years ago, you know.
01:11:00.61
Mike
Yes, that is a good thing.
01:11:02.15
Bill
ted 10, 12 years ago. um All right. So next one, and this was just a question I had. i don't remember if this came up probably on a podcast. I was listening to your one of the leads. um
01:11:11.88
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:11:12.33
Bill
Was it difficult for you when you first got sober to to share your story? um And I mean, whether it was in in a meeting or standing up for your first lead, I don't know. Did you think it was, did you feel like it was difficult at all sharing your story right away? Whatever that initial timeframe was.
01:11:29.90
Mike
Right. Well, I mean, you know, first lead is after a year. So hopefully, yeah.
01:11:33.38
Bill
Right.
01:11:34.53
Mike
um um I mean, I'm sure there were details of my story that I wasn't all that comfortable sharing in the beginning. oh Just because, you know, I i still hadn't processed them.
01:11:48.41
Mike
Hell, I hadn't done a fourth step yet. So, and a fifth step.
01:11:50.22
Bill
right
01:11:51.23
Mike
So, um yeah, you know, but once those were done and yeah, no, it's, you know, certainly not. Not too difficult anymore.
01:12:02.44
Bill
right
01:12:03.88
Mike
you know, shit happened and now it's not happening. So, yay.
01:12:09.46
Bill
Yeah. and you And you know what, the the thing of it is, and I, and I don't mind doing a, you know, getting up and doing a lead and and you and I are of the same, of the same mindset where I, I, I touch on, I start, I try to start my lead off the same way every time, you know, just with the basically starting off with my last drink, you know, because it's, it's a, it's that, that last 30 day period is a, is a pretty good wrap up of, of who I was.
01:12:14.78
Mike
Right.
01:12:23.32
Mike
Right.
01:12:25.65
Mike
Right.
01:12:32.57
Bill
And I don't need more than that first five minutes to explain what a, what a fucking dickhead I was and,
01:12:32.80
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:12:37.90
Mike
Right.
01:12:38.76
Bill
degenerate and and all that stuff. And where I, where I ended is an easy example right there.
01:12:40.57
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:12:43.06
Mike
Right.
01:12:43.30
Bill
um But from there, I mean, I never know what I'm going to talk about. I get probably highlights in my head, you know, um of certain things, you know, often thinking oh my kids are probably going to come up and the Keating Center is going to come up and um you know, the, the great things that I've been able to do and you know, the relationships I was able to rebuild.
01:12:48.44
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:12:53.43
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:12:59.76
Bill
But you know, a lot of times I'll get done, I'll get done with a, with a lead and I'm like, God, I didn't talk about that. I'm like, well, apparently it wasn't very important today.
01:13:04.88
Mike
Yeah, exactly.
01:13:06.54
Bill
You know,
01:13:07.53
Mike
Right. Yeah. Well, um I actually got to do it this week.
01:13:11.85
Bill
Oh, really?
01:13:12.40
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. um At the Keating Center.
01:13:15.52
Bill
Nice.
01:13:16.15
Mike
Yeah, yeah, it was. so A guy, Tim, do you remember Tim? Kind of a shorter dude. ah ah You'd know him if you saw him. um Anyway, yeah, he's ah back around and he was at Pyridus on Sunday and he asked me if I would lead on Monday and I first said no.
01:13:37.77
Mike
Well, I had a PA run Monday. so i was like, gosh, shit, i don't know if I'll make it back. i don't want to say yes if I can't. And then I went, you know what?
01:13:44.40
Bill
Right.
01:13:45.98
Mike
i'll I'll make it happen. So I did. um Yeah, so it was cool.
01:13:48.69
Bill
That's cool.
01:13:51.91
Mike
It was it was very cool. um There were actually some faces in there that we know and and love and whatever. They're there. um Again, oh Blackley says hi.
01:14:04.90
Mike
Yeah, Roger.
01:14:05.75
Bill
Yeah.
01:14:08.86
Mike
of yeah roger ah
01:14:11.64
Bill
Right.
01:14:13.49
Mike
You know, and actually it was funny. Roger commented. He was like, yeah, I remember. Cause you know, I, in my lead, I always, like you said, I i never remember, or I never know what I'm going to say, but there are a couple of points that I always make sure I hit.
01:14:26.77
Mike
Um, and one of them of course is my atheism and, and, you know, cause I want to, I want to share with, you know, the new guy, which is what the fuck I'm doing up there is showing the new guy that this shit works.
01:14:35.35
Bill
Right.
01:14:37.56
Mike
Um, um, And, um you know, so don't freak out about the higher power thing early on, blah, blah, blah. So I tell that story and whatever. So Roger got up and commented. He's all, yeah, i remember I remember you when you came in. And and i was like, I remember you too.
01:14:54.62
Mike
But he's all, yeah, I remember looking at him going, yeah, that guy doesn't believe in God. He's not going to last. And I just, yeah. But look at you. you know He had a nice comment about it.
01:15:06.44
Mike
But yeah know i was like, yeah, yeah.
01:15:06.60
Bill
Right.
01:15:08.53
Mike
and look at Look who's back at the Keating Center and I'm not. Because I'm a dick that way.
01:15:13.32
Bill
Yeah, it's, yeah, and it's ah it's just, it's so weird. And, and you know, for anyone out there, I mean, we talked about the Keating Center enough and um it's been, I mean, with the exception of that that event, whatever it was, a year and a half ago, I think when we were back there, when I was back there, um you know, I haven't been to a meeting at the Keating Center in,
01:15:26.36
Mike
Right. Right. Mm-hmm.
01:15:32.03
Bill
I've never been to a meeting at the new place, you know, but um every time we go back there, especially when you were doing group, you know, you walk in there and like, holy fuck, man, this dude's here again, you know, um and I don't mean that.
01:15:33.70
Mike
Right.
01:15:40.69
Mike
Yep.
01:15:42.53
Bill
I mean, that's sort of in a bad way, but not really in a bad way.
01:15:44.43
Mike
Mm. Right.
01:15:46.09
Bill
I'm judging. But then again, i'm I'm thankful that they made it back, you know.
01:15:47.82
Mike
hmm. Right. Of course.
01:15:50.09
Bill
um but t so But I don't know, just part of me sometimes I, I, I'm glad that I don't understand. Well, I do understand, but I don't want to completely understand because then i wouldn't be where, where you, we wouldn't be where we're sitting right now.
01:15:59.82
Mike
hmm.
01:16:03.06
Bill
If we, we completely got it.
01:16:03.23
Mike
Right.
01:16:04.75
Bill
We're like, Oh yeah, well, I, that makes sense. Why you're, why you're back.
01:16:06.53
Mike
Yeah, sure. And I mean, you know, yeah, not completely, but you know, I, I thoroughly understand it. I mean, yes, you know, I mean, yeah, you know, this is your first time and blah, blah, blah you you know, not mine.
01:16:13.78
Bill
All right. Yeah.
01:16:19.94
Mike
Um, so, I mean, I do understand, um probably a little more than you do and that's, you know, whatever, whatever that's fucking worth.
01:16:25.04
Bill
Right.
01:16:27.61
Mike
Um, not much. Um, but yeah, you know, I mean, again, but we do understand, we, we know the reason, you know, yeah, they stop, they stop doing the fucking thing, man.
01:16:37.80
Bill
right Right.
01:16:41.36
Mike
It it is that simple. Um, and it's a fucking drag, man.
01:16:43.99
Bill
Right.
01:16:45.49
Mike
And it's like, God, man, just, just don't just keep the, you know, and that's exactly how I ended my fucking lead. so you know, just keep fucking doing this thing, man. And and it's going to be okay.
01:16:57.23
Mike
and Your life will be better than you ever thought it's going to be.
01:17:00.26
Bill
Right.
01:17:00.65
Mike
Cause mine is,
01:17:02.06
Bill
Right.
01:17:02.53
Mike
Me. Look at me, assholes.
01:17:06.09
Bill
Well, and and that's the thing that see that when we were talking about the AA sayings that, that I don't like, I don't like the saying, keep coming back. I don't, I never have because um it, even though nobody means for it to like, okay, relapse and keep coming back.
01:17:12.65
Mike
Right. Right.
01:17:19.24
Mike
ah the
01:17:19.48
Bill
Nobody means that, but it's it in my mind, that's what it means, you know?
01:17:20.52
Mike
Right.
01:17:23.99
Mike
Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's a nice little loophole.
01:17:24.96
Bill
And yeah, Yeah. And when I, that's why at the end of my lead, I always tell people, I'm like, I, I, I've said that for a number of years.
01:17:31.23
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:17:31.60
Bill
You know, I said, I don't, I agree with all the one day at a times and the, you know, obviously time to all the, all the different things, all the cliche sayings that we want to talk about.
01:17:38.19
Mike
Right.
01:17:39.65
Bill
But I said, I don't like keep coming back. I'm like, just stay.
01:17:42.32
Mike
Yep.
01:17:42.46
Bill
All you got to do is stay. It's a hell of a lot easier.
01:17:44.91
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:17:45.00
Bill
It's all that you got do.
01:17:46.27
Mike
Yep.
01:17:46.33
Bill
You know, there's no fucking reason to come back. Stay. You know, i mean, you don't, I mean, yeah, I mean, say hey, granted, i'm I'm glad you're here, you know, but, but you don't have to do that again, you know?
01:17:50.78
Mike
Right.
01:17:54.80
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:17:57.65
Mike
Right. Yep.
01:17:59.01
Bill
So it just, it, it does it. It pains me to see it, but you, you said it. I mean, we have people stop. We know why we know why.
01:18:04.38
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
01:18:05.71
Bill
But that's good. I'm i'm glad you got to glad you got to lead, especially the Keating Center.
01:18:07.32
Mike
Yeah, yeah, it was cool.
01:18:08.83
Bill
That's nice.
01:18:08.94
Mike
Yep.
01:18:09.54
Bill
So, hey did you talk did you talk about me?
01:18:09.73
Mike
Yeah, it was. Uh, in the lead?
01:18:13.44
Bill
I'm just fucking around.
01:18:14.77
Mike
i don't know, man. Maybe.
01:18:16.87
Bill
his
01:18:18.12
Mike
i don't know what the fuck I said.
01:18:20.54
Bill
That was just a complete joke. Like, ah hey, hey, wait, did you talk about me? Did she ask about me? did Did they? Did they talk about
01:18:28.99
Mike
Like I said, you know, Bob said hi
01:18:29.19
Bill
You know, like a fucking child. Yeah, that's true.
01:18:31.31
Mike
Bob said hi. Yeah.
01:18:33.85
Bill
Yeah, I know. It's just, ah it's it's funny. i and That's part of my prayers every night. I'm you know thankful and grateful for, and and I am.
01:18:41.01
Mike
Yep.
01:18:43.04
Bill
um And I'm just, I'm thankful and grateful that, you know, to this day, we haven't had to go back there, you know, for to stay overnight, as you say.
01:18:43.03
Mike
Yep.
01:18:47.09
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:18:49.78
Mike
Right. Exactly.
01:18:50.75
Bill
Yeah.
01:18:50.78
Mike
I love this place, but I never want to spend the night here again.
01:18:53.10
Bill
yeah
01:18:56.30
Bill
All right. I get a couple of, since we're getting, i don't want to say short on time, but I see our i see what the time is. um Okay. So if you if you want to hear, so Mark Maron was on Rob Lowe's podcast recently, and it popped up on a Spotify suggestion.
01:19:06.81
Mike
Yes. and Okay. Okay.
01:19:13.04
Bill
I'm like, was he on there? Was that recent? And it was within the last month or so.
01:19:17.41
Mike
Okay.
01:19:17.70
Bill
um And now the the thing with it I've said before, I enjoy Rob Lowe. I think he does so he does a really good job, very conversational.
01:19:21.55
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:19:24.43
Bill
I think he's a good podcaster, and I mean that sincerely.
01:19:27.40
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:19:27.92
Bill
enjoy him as everything else that he does, too. I like him, but um he does. He runs a good show.
01:19:32.90
Mike
Yeah.
01:19:33.01
Bill
So he's got Mark on there, and he even said, he goes, oh, You're kind of the OG of this and that. Mark's like, oh, yeah, he kind of did this and this. But so they go through the whole thing. And they're talking, talking, talking.
01:19:43.52
Bill
And then Mark's got like three big things going on right now. He's got the, well, his special's coming out um next month, I think.
01:19:49.07
Mike
hu
01:19:50.67
Bill
HBO, I'm going to have to sign up for fucking HBO just to watch it. Because Kimmy and Brian, they cut back. And that's one of the things they cut out, which I'm like, I don't watch anything on HBO. I'm like, his fucking special's going to be on HBO.
01:20:00.73
Mike
c
01:20:01.85
Bill
But so he's got special coming up. He's got the Apple TV thing stick, which just ended, ah which is good.
01:20:04.81
Mike
Right. Yep.
01:20:07.08
Bill
I enjoyed it. um Kind of a campy little thing, but I think he did well. um He's in some movies, ah does a voiceover in the bad guys or something like that. Some cartoon thing.
01:20:14.65
Mike
All right. Yeah.
01:20:15.85
Bill
um He's got this documentary that they did. he's got he's got a few things coming up, you know.
01:20:20.15
Mike
Right.
01:20:21.26
Bill
So he's going through and he's talking about, I think he was talking about his, um he was talking about the, I think, shtick or whatever it was, or stick. And rob Rob starts and he's like, oh, and he goes, like Mark was telling a story, but they got off on a tangent.
01:20:35.21
Bill
And then Rob starts talking about something else, um kind of like clearly clearly going into some other area. And then, uh, so Rob's starting to switch gears with him, not forcing it, but then Mark's like, he's like, Hey, yeah.
01:20:45.74
Mike
right
01:20:47.19
Bill
He goes, I'll get to that. He goes, let me finish this first. I'll bring it around. And I'm like, that's fucking Mark right there. I mean, like, because that's what, that's how he runs his podcast.
01:20:54.11
Mike
yeah right
01:20:57.57
Bill
And it was so funny because, um you know, I, if you, I'm sure this would have been on video, Rob just would have been like sitting there, like sitting on his hands for a minute. um He, Mark didn't say it like a dick or anything like that.
01:21:08.07
Mike
right
01:21:08.81
Bill
He was just, he was running his, as a guest, he was still running the podcast, but not in a weird way, you know, but I, I just sat back and I'm like, that's a fucking professional there.
01:21:12.53
Mike
sure yeah right
01:21:19.95
Mike
ah huh
01:21:20.08
Bill
Yeah. That, that dude's got his shit together, you know?
01:21:23.20
Mike
Right.
01:21:24.22
Bill
So anyhow, if you get the chance, it was a good episode. I mean, ah Mark does a lot of talking and at the end, Rob's like, he goes, it really was.
01:21:26.44
Mike
well
01:21:30.10
Bill
He goes, nervous was nervous. He goes, he goes, he goes, worst case scenario. Mark says this. He goes, you know, I'm a talker.
01:21:36.03
Mike
Right.
01:21:37.10
Bill
He goes, I'm going to talk. And he's like, yeah, he goes, I knew that part.
01:21:38.78
Mike
Right.
01:21:39.98
Bill
I knew that part.
01:21:40.44
Mike
this
01:21:41.94
Bill
All right. So you want to hear about my, uh, my snake story? Yeah.
01:21:45.03
Mike
Yes. Always.
01:21:46.82
Bill
ah So yesterday, and it it's been raining off and on here and whatever. I've only grilled out. I think I grilled out the one night, first night I got here that Saturday or whatever it was.
01:21:56.12
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:21:56.91
Bill
I mean, i just, same thing, bought chicken easy enough to grill or cook on my George Foreman. It's a big deal. But um last night, it's like, well, it's going to rain. It's like the last night here that I'm cooking something. I'm like, you know what? Like, i got I got the time. I'm just going grill out this chicken breast.
01:22:09.60
Bill
So I'm in back and forth because I'm heating up, you know, I had the green beans, had the rice and heating up some shit and in and out. As it's cooking and I'm standing out there and I had some barbecue sauce, I threw it on there. And the grill is kind of right right out in the corner.
01:22:21.91
Bill
It's not on the deck, but down in this gravel area right by the deck. So, I mean, literally a deck is within, i don't know, four feet behind me.
01:22:25.44
Mike
the
01:22:29.46
Bill
And so I'm standing there, I've got the, know, grill lid shut. and And I hear this kind of like this rustling and just a little bit of a bang bang on metal. I'm like, what the fuck is I turned around and there's, I swear to God, I mean, go night well, I know because I started to slither away.
01:22:43.07
Bill
It was at least five fucking feet long, a snake.
01:22:45.69
Mike
Really?
01:22:46.45
Bill
And I'm like, Jesus fucking Christ. And I'm looking, I'm like, I'm like, what the fuck? So what it's trying to do, it was trying to get under the deck. Um, but there's grading. And I mean, small little grades, like it it looks like mini fence and metal.
01:22:57.07
Mike
Yeah. Uh-huh.
01:22:58.95
Bill
So they got metal lined and I'm sure, you know, obviously to keep animals and shit out from underneath the deck.
01:23:02.86
Mike
Right.
01:23:03.10
Bill
So this thing's going like poking his head and banging his head, trying to do this. And I'm like, that's probably not good. I'm like, that fucking thing gets under there. If it gets in the house or whatever, I'm like, I'm going to try to get this thing out of here.
01:23:13.33
Bill
So looking for a stick, right? And I'm like, because here's my idea.
01:23:16.43
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:23:17.75
Bill
I'm just going to pick this thing up with a stick.
01:23:18.65
Mike
Oh, yeah. Right. Uh-huh.
01:23:20.28
Bill
I'm going to carry it over to the woods and everything will be, let's see, you know.
01:23:21.82
Mike
oh yeah right hu
01:23:25.64
Bill
So like yeah everything's going to be easy and fine.
01:23:28.11
Mike
Sure.
01:23:28.20
Bill
So there's this little stick and I go to poke at it.
01:23:28.45
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:23:30.20
Bill
It turns around. It's kind of looking at me. I'm like, oh Jesus, you know? And I don't know what kind of fucking snake it is.
01:23:36.26
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:23:36.60
Bill
So um I'm like, okay, if I'm going to go in the house. And I, you know, I just, I turned off the grill and it was almost done cooking my chicken. So I turned the gas off. So let it, let it kind of eat heat down a little bit. So I went and grabbed the broom and I'm like, okay, do the same thing. I'm just going to scoop this thing up at the broom.
01:23:49.67
Bill
And I'm thinking it's just going to hang over the broom and I'm going to, you know,
01:23:51.44
Mike
sure
01:23:53.56
Bill
Again, I'll say it again. You know, you know how this goes.
01:23:56.77
Mike
ah
01:23:57.36
Bill
I started to poke it with it. It's fucking running. It's trying to get out of the thing. It's all over the goddamn place. It's slithering all over. So finally, what I was able to do, and and then um I'm getting with the broom and I'm trying to, you know, again, get this broom underneath it because I'm just going to take it off.
01:24:12.58
Bill
And then I hear rattling and I'm like, like, is this a fucking rattlesnake too?
01:24:17.15
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:24:17.73
Bill
And I'm like, Jesus Christ. I'm like, I know I really got to get this fucking thing out of here. So, so I'm like, I, I did, I ended up, I grabbed it by the tail. It's like five feet long.
01:24:26.84
Mike
Oh, that's good. That's not what you do.
01:24:30.40
Bill
But I was ended up getting halfway out in the yard. um And, you know, I was curling back a little bit. And then ah i I walked it into the woods. It went into the woods. Okay. So here's the thing. And I know I'm all fucking freaked out about this thing. I'm like, I look it up and I because i took a picture of it.
01:24:44.12
Mike
Yeah.
01:24:44.59
Bill
And the first thing I'd Google, Google has Google lens.
01:24:47.24
Mike
Yeah.
01:24:47.55
Bill
And first thing, it's like, yeah, it's this fucking Tennessee rattler snake and it's venomous and whatever.
01:24:50.73
Mike
Yeah. Uh
01:24:52.59
Bill
And I'm like, are you fucking kidding me? And then I keep, I'm looking, I'm like this in my head. I'm like, this can't fucking be. So I, after all said and done or after I ate, I took the picture and I put it on because I'm like Google lens is just giving me all these websites, no real description.
01:25:06.24
Mike
huh.
01:25:06.39
Bill
um So I did it and I put it through chat GPT and it came back as a a rat snake, a Tennessee rat snake.
01:25:11.65
Mike
Okay.
01:25:12.44
Bill
And then it's like, okay, um you know, give me, I, this is what I think it is based on the way it is, the way the picture is. Cause it was starting to climb up the, like the deck area. um Then it says, give me more information. If you think you need more information, I'm like, okay, it's a really skinny tail, but it made a rattling noise, you know?
01:25:28.80
Bill
And then I said, this, this, this, and they're like okay, so this is what they do.
01:25:28.86
Mike
Yeah.
01:25:32.06
Bill
um You know, does it, does it, did it do it in the open or did it do it against a piece of wood or something like that? And that's what it did against the metal. Okay. Okay.
01:25:38.98
Mike
Yeah.
01:25:39.95
Bill
They're like, ah same thing, rat snake. Because what it does, it does that to defend itself and scare off predators, including you.
01:25:45.65
Mike
Right. Yeah.
01:25:47.79
Bill
um So all said and done, that's what it was. Okay.
01:25:50.09
Mike
Yeah.
01:25:50.60
Bill
But um yeah, I'm like, I'm like for this fucking thing. I mean, um I'm like, Jesus Christ. So it scared the fuck out of me. um I'm not, I know, you know, you're a snake person.
01:25:59.30
Mike
Yeah.
01:25:59.94
Bill
They fucking freak me out. I'm not completely afraid of them. I just have this, this, um, fearful respect for snakes.
01:26:06.14
Mike
Yeah.
01:26:06.56
Bill
and And I know, I, I think, and I think, did I tell you the story about the Cobra, the the guy that, uh, my mom, our mom knew and that's where it happened.
01:26:06.68
Mike
Uh-huh. Right. Right. Yep.
01:26:11.48
Mike
yeah yeah ah hu
01:26:13.78
Bill
You, you want to talk about if I have any piece of trauma in my life, that's one of them.
01:26:18.15
Mike
and
01:26:19.08
Bill
when And it was in it was in a container. It was in ah a tank like your snake is.
01:26:22.07
Mike
right right
01:26:23.45
Bill
But this fucking cobra struck at me um you know when I was, don't know, six, seven, eight years old.
01:26:25.62
Mike
help
01:26:29.02
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:26:29.10
Bill
And it fucking scared the shit out of me.
01:26:30.99
Mike
Right.
01:26:31.27
Bill
and i And I think i if I had to put it, i there's no other reason in the world why I would be afraid of snakes.
01:26:36.57
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:26:36.83
Bill
um But I think that's it. okay
01:26:38.98
Mike
All
01:26:39.25
Bill
um But anyhow, so all said done, yeah, I got rid of the snake. But now every time I've walked out since then, I look outside first. I look around.
01:26:46.98
Mike
right.
01:26:47.22
Bill
It's not going to hurt me. It's a rat snake, you know?
01:26:48.90
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:26:49.98
Bill
um But yeah, to begin with, I didn't fucking know that.
01:26:50.61
Mike
Yeah. and And don't grab him by the tail.
01:26:55.69
Bill
How was I supposed to get it? I didn't know. I just was trying to get it out of there.
01:26:58.41
Mike
Well, you want to, don't grab them at all, but
01:27:03.00
Bill
he wouldn't He wouldn't go away. I was trying to steer him away to get him in the grass, you know?
01:27:05.52
Mike
yeah, clearly. ah Yeah. Right. Yeah. Rat snake. Yeah. Well, if it was a rattlesnake, you'd have been fucked if you'd have grabbed it by the tail. But um
01:27:12.29
Bill
Oh, yeah.
01:27:15.36
Mike
yeah, well, if you're going to have to grab em anywhere, you grab them right behind the head so they can't bite you.
01:27:19.70
Bill
Yeah. Right.
01:27:21.65
Mike
But yeah, by the tail. No, don't do that.
01:27:26.71
Bill
Well, you know what? That's the first time I have ever had to, to try to even deal with a snake. And I wasn't, I wasn't having, I didn't like it.
01:27:31.32
Mike
Yeah. All right.
01:27:33.59
Bill
Did not, did not like it at all. But again, it's just that I, know I know, think that goes back to, again, being a kid, you know, with that fucking snake. But yeah, I don't know.
01:27:40.65
Mike
Yo.
01:27:42.90
Bill
It hasn't been around since then. So anyhow, but yeah. yeah it fucking freaked me out. i'm like, really is a fucking rattlesnake, but there are, there's a, there's these medium size. They're, they're still venomous. they' They're the smallest of the rattlesnake species, whatever type of rattlesnake it is. And they're, they're native to this area.
01:28:01.36
Bill
um You know, so there are rattlesnakes around here, which I didn't know, you know, I mean,
01:28:04.07
Mike
Yeah. Oh, I knew that.
01:28:05.61
Bill
Well, yeah. I mean, it but the the thing of it is, well, this is the only other thing I was thinking about is that all the all the places I've been walking and I do I pay attention where I'm walking, I could easily get jumped on by a snake or you know bit by a snake if they're sitting on the side or whatever.
01:28:20.49
Bill
But usually, from what I understand, everything I've read with all this hiking shit. Is that usually what's going to happen if you see them, um if they're off in the weeds, unless you're walking through the weeds, they're not going to get fucked with by them for the most part.
01:28:31.44
Mike
Right.
01:28:31.79
Bill
um It's what they're going to be doing. You'll see them in the trail. They're sunning themselves, you know, um and then you're going to see them, you know, so I watch I watch where I'm walking all the time.
01:28:35.78
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:28:38.77
Mike
Yeah.
01:28:41.04
Bill
I don't just fucking meander and say I want to trip over snakes or roots or rocks or anything, you know, fall off a cliff like Bill did or whatever.
01:28:44.91
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah.
01:28:48.62
Bill
But.
01:28:49.24
Mike
yeah
01:28:49.56
Bill
Um, yeah, but, uh, it anyhow, but, uh, yeah. Okay. So now I know I, I hopefully will never have to deal with it again. you know what I need? i needed one of those gravits, you know, like the old people have.
01:28:59.09
Mike
yeah right
01:29:00.10
Bill
That's, that's what I, that's what I needed. Grab the fucking thing behind the neck. But, um, yeah, I, I walked him, I walked him into the woods.
01:29:04.23
Mike
yeah
01:29:07.94
Mike
alright
01:29:07.99
Bill
So he and I, he, he and I walked into the woods.
01:29:09.32
Mike
All right. All right. And live to tell the tale. And you actually walked out.
01:29:14.64
Bill
Yeah, I did. I did. And I didn't walk into the woods, but I literally, I got halfway through the yard and then a fucker hightailed it.
01:29:16.03
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:29:21.34
Bill
I slithered it into the, into the woods.
01:29:22.36
Mike
Yep.
01:29:24.34
Bill
So, um, okay. Last last thing real quick. The, um, actually two things. Waterfalls around here. I just want to say that this whole area, um, fucking mind blowing. Did you see the pictures that I,
01:29:35.06
Mike
Yeah, I did.
01:29:35.52
Bill
Okay. Um, it's the, the thing it is the rivers reminded me of Michigan where I was, where Kimmy and I went and all that stuff up there. Um, just with the exception of, they had, those had rapids, not the waterfalls where we were.
01:29:46.36
Mike
Right.
01:29:46.65
Bill
So this was the, the beauty of these, these river areas. Um, but he's fucking that Burgess falls, that waterfall. And then the other one that I went to the, what it was, it was called like the, the great falls. That's the one where i got like really close to it.
01:29:58.56
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:29:59.11
Bill
Um, and I was outstanding so close. I was getting missed off the waterfall. It's fucking awesome. I kind of walked in like rock jumped and walk rock walked all the way over to this area so I could get out and, you know, be right by it. But I'm like, this is fucking ridiculous. But this whole area, if anyone, if you're, if you're into it, Rock Island Park, very cool.
01:30:17.35
Bill
Um, that's where the great falls were. And then Burgess Falls State Park again, just ridiculously beautiful. I'd love to come back.
01:30:23.53
Mike
Nice.
01:30:24.40
Bill
So, and then, then last, last, last thing, my license plates. Did you see I got my license plates done?
01:30:27.94
Mike
Yes, I did.
01:30:30.31
Bill
This is so fucked. Okay. I called, um, the other day, last Friday at lunch. And, uh, cause I'm like, I'm, I'm trying, I need, I needed a planned, uh, time um to go up to Wisconsin. So I'm like, I gotta go up there, take a half day. I'm gonna have to go into the DMV. I know for a fact that last time I had to physically go in.
01:30:49.90
Bill
I could not do it online. Cause I called last time and like, yeah, you can't, transfer your personalized plates and it was with carvana with my other car same deal and i even looked online again this time trying to find transferring plates like now you got to come in so the only thing i did i called because i'm like i got to plan this out i can find out exactly what i need what forms um where i got to go what i got to do because ive i've got a limited amount of time to do it and i want to get it done
01:30:56.60
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
01:31:12.69
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
01:31:14.43
Bill
So I'm telling lady my whole thing. And she's like, let me put you on hold with us we real quick. I want to check on one thing. So she had me a hold for two, three minutes and comes back and she's like, you can, you can transfer your plates online. And I said, is that something new?
01:31:24.35
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:31:26.46
Bill
She's like, i don't know when we were able to do it. said, well, you know, again, four years ago, I wasn't able to, she said easily could have been within that timeframe.
01:31:33.91
Mike
Right.
01:31:34.53
Bill
But she's like, ah can you go on now? And I said, i' I've got to get back to work here in a minute, but tell me roughly where to go.
01:31:40.56
Mike
Right.
01:31:40.99
Bill
so I wrote down a note on where to go on their website. And yeah, when i when I got done with work, I'm just like I went went on there and um literally it took me, it didn't cost me anything.
01:31:50.07
Mike
Uh huh.
01:31:50.21
Bill
It took me a matter of five minutes to put in all the information. um And I'm like, And I'm like, God, I wonder if this really, and then i my email pops.
01:31:59.40
Mike
Uh huh.
01:31:59.62
Bill
And because I'm like, I wonder if it really worked, you know, because I'm like, are they going to send me my registration?
01:32:01.62
Mike
Right.
01:32:04.79
Bill
As soon as I, in my head, um i they emailed me my registration.
01:32:09.31
Mike
Nice.
01:32:10.42
Bill
Fucking done. Now, I still have to renew my plates by the end of ah the end of August, but it eliminated um the emission testing on it because I just got the emission tested when I got the car with the other plates.
01:32:22.02
Bill
So I'm like, Jesus fucking Christ.
01:32:22.38
Mike
right.
01:32:24.37
Bill
I've been, I mean, one way or the other, and I was joking about picking up the phone. I wasn't avoiding making a phone call.
01:32:30.90
Mike
Right.
01:32:30.98
Bill
I just thought I had to go in because that's what I had to do last time. so
01:32:34.12
Mike
Right. Right.
01:32:34.98
Bill
But yeah, I just went out there and fucking put my new plates on, and I'm like, I am happy again. So see, look at that. I found a moment of happiness on top of everything else this week, my license plates. so
01:32:45.07
Mike
All right.
01:32:46.10
Bill
And i didn't get I didn't get killed by a rattlesnake.
01:32:48.77
Mike
Yeah. Yet. I'm
01:32:51.80
Bill
and That's a good thing.
01:32:52.76
Mike
good.
01:32:54.60
Bill
All right. I think, I don't know. You good? I think we're good.
01:32:58.61
Mike
i'm good
01:32:59.46
Bill
All right. Well, you know what then? Your turn.
01:33:01.86
Mike
All right. Well, thank you, everyone, for listening to yet another episode of Sober Not Mature. always, be kind to each other, be good to each other, go out and do something nice for somebody else this week, and don't tell anybody you did it.
01:33:17.24
Mike
Now, from the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul, from the beginning of time until the ends of the earth, always and eternally, fuck you.
01:33:22.97
Bill
time
01:33:29.99
Mike
Now it's time, kids. It's time for you to fuck off. Then keep fucking off. Keep fucking off until you get to a gate with a sign on it saying, you cannot fuck off past here.
01:33:40.90
Mike
Climb over that gate. Dream the impossible dream. Keep fucking off forever.
01:33:49.93
Bill
All right. Last question, because I almost forgot this one. I've never heard of this.
01:33:52.07
Mike
yeah
01:33:53.02
Bill
Never heard of this term before. Have you ever heard of the term corn sweat?
01:33:56.94
Mike
Corn sweat?
01:33:58.66
Bill
Yes.
01:33:59.98
Mike
um Well, I mean, like as in corn sweating.
01:34:04.81
Bill
Well, corn, yeah. Corn sweat or whatever.
01:34:06.40
Mike
Yeah.
01:34:06.83
Bill
Yeah. Okay.
01:34:07.32
Mike
It gets really hot and the cob, the corn sweats.
01:34:12.84
Bill
Yeah. Well, it's ah there again. It's one of the kicker stories on on the morning show. And then I looked it up and this happens to be an article from Ohio from the Columbus Dispatch.
01:34:21.27
Mike
Yeah.
01:34:21.49
Bill
They're talking about it. So what happens is, is that corn actually to your exact point, you know, corn will heat up, it sweats and it causes more humidity.
01:34:27.32
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
01:34:30.56
Bill
So if you're driving down a roadway, for instance, some of these country roads where there's, you know, seven foot corn, corn fields at both sides, it's going to be hotter and more humid on that road than it would be.
01:34:36.44
Mike
Yeah.
01:34:41.40
Mike
Huh?
01:34:41.58
Bill
um, in a, in another place. And I'm like, really? so Yeah. The humidity level is going to be going to be higher. It's going to be hotter and more humid in, uh, there. that's, it's based on a fucking corn sweat.
01:34:53.05
Bill
So I'm like, how, how old am I?
01:34:53.12
Mike
All right.
01:34:56.68
Bill
And I'm just learning about fucking corn sweat. I've literally, I've never heard, I've never thought about it. I've, I've fucked around in cornfields before. I mean, I've,
01:35:04.78
Mike
but I'll write that. I wouldn't brag about that.
01:35:07.44
Bill
Okay. I'm sorry. I have, I have been around cornfields before I've run through them when I,
01:35:11.36
Mike
I wouldn't brag about that.
01:35:15.05
Bill
I, I think I was running away from police one time when I was drunk from drunk from a party or something like that.
01:35:17.78
Mike
Okay. We can brag about that.
01:35:21.64
Bill
I know I had to run, run through a cornfield, but, but anyhow, so I can't, just can't believe I've never heard of it. So, all right.
01:35:27.11
Mike
yeah All right.
01:35:28.51
Bill
So, um, on that note, that's corn sweat.
01:35:29.99
Mike
It is.
01:35:31.67
Bill
All right, man. I love you, brother.
01:35:33.56
Mike
I love you too.
01:35:35.65
Bill
We'll talk about whatever soon, right?
01:35:37.53
Mike
Right. We will.
01:35:39.56
Bill
Bye.
01:35:40.36
Mike
Bye.
