SoberNotMature - Episode 168 (That's A Good Point)

Woohoo! It's Mike and Bill again this week and we were fired up and ready to go. That may be an overstatement, but we enjoyed ourselves.

Mike started off with his reading and it was about that little voice in our heads. Do we listen to it? Do we talk back to it? It was a little bit outside of what we normally talk about, but it was amusing.

Mike is taking a trip this weekend and it's a family event, so we chatted about that. It happens to be to the nation's capital, so Mike is going to show his appreciation.

Then it was Pope talk, what brings us joy, pride versus false pride, the pandemic (5 years ago already), negative moods, Jewel and did we really have fun back in our drinking days?

And we ran across an article that talked about phrases that people use, like "I don't know," and "That's a good point." It has to do what type of people they are. It was a fun conversation.

Enjoy the episode.

00:00:39.35
Bill
But you have ah you have plans this weekend, which we can actually talk about a little bit.

00:00:41.36
Mike
I do.

00:00:43.55
Bill
And I actually have something now planned this weekend. But it was just, I don't know, it was fucking weird. I mean, just today, just in general, because I kept thinking it was Thursday because I'm like, it's podcast night.

00:00:56.60
Bill
I knew we weren't recording. It wasn't Friday, but I couldn't get it out of my mind what fucking day it was.

00:01:01.24
Mike
Right.

00:01:01.45
Bill
you know So again, creatures Creature's a goddamn habit.

00:01:02.33
Mike
Mm.

00:01:04.65
Bill
but But who knows that by the time this airs, oh, you know speaking of that too, The world could fucking change by then. i have I have one item on the Pope, and I never would have thought i would never thought that we would have talked about the Pope at all, let alone twice in a couple of weeks.

00:01:12.07
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:01:19.40
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:01:21.46
Bill
But this is this is kind of a funny thing, but I want i obviously want to...

00:01:21.50
Mike
yes

00:01:25.13
Bill
I'll bring it up later. But yeah, I don't know.

00:01:26.19
Mike
All right.

00:01:27.32
Bill
we got We got shit to talk about. How was your day, Mike?

00:01:28.94
Mike
I guess. far far fur It was a day.

00:01:33.65
Bill
Okay,

00:01:33.97
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:01:34.14
Bill
right.

00:01:34.69
Mike
You know, yeah, we had the big meeting couple of weeks ago, how work was slowing down and blah, blah, blah. Fucking killing me after that.

00:01:43.99
Bill
Yeah. You know, I was going to say it. I, uh, the, cause when I was there, so I was there obviously for an entire week last week and figured during a five day work week, um, you worked, I mean, you were home decent three days, but two days you were, you know, they, again, you what, what last Friday we didn't start until what is it?

00:01:50.04
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:01:57.05
Mike
Yeah.

00:02:01.98
Bill
Quarter to nine, I think, which, um, you know, again, and it was just a matter of you getting home eating it.

00:02:02.97
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:02:07.42
Bill
You got home, what it's like 45 minutes after you got home or something like that.

00:02:07.89
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:02:10.38
Bill
So,

00:02:10.42
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:02:12.09
Bill
But I was kind of thinking the same thing, you know, i like, yeah, they're working like a, like a fucking dog, you know?

00:02:12.91
Mike
Yeah.

00:02:16.90
Mike
Yes, they are.

00:02:19.10
Bill
Well, you know what? I guess, so you know, making hay when hay can be made or whatever the fuck they say, right?

00:02:23.74
Mike
Something like that.

00:02:26.62
Bill
All right, so let's get into the to the normal stuff. Oh, quick reminder, before I forget, we'll talk about it again. But um unless the world ends in the next, I don't know, nine days or something like that, Shirley is going to be on with us next week.

00:02:39.61
Bill
um Everything's good. i don't think, again, you know, shit can happen again. Mike's work.

00:02:43.96
Mike
Sure.

00:02:44.70
Bill
Shirley, me, I don't fucking know. Who knows? But, um you know, our plan right now is that our good friend Shirley is going to be on next Friday.

00:02:47.56
Mike
Right.

00:02:53.04
Bill
yeah.

00:02:53.30
Mike
and Okay.

00:02:54.23
Bill
So there. Okay. But um did you have a chance to to grab a reading or are you going to do the s spinning of the the wheel or

00:02:59.26
Mike
i We're doing the s spinning of the wheel. I had a chance to grab a book. That's what I had a chance to grab. but

00:03:06.15
Bill
Awesome.

00:03:07.01
Mike
Yeah. So here we go. I got keep it simple. So let's see what the hell happens. All right. August 5th. All right. Hang on.

00:03:18.16
Mike
the the the

00:03:23.39
Mike
right august fifth

00:03:25.17
Bill
That works.

00:03:25.30
Mike
ha all right hey god ah Roly human. We're supposed to make mistakes. Some guy named Billy Joel said that. All right. um Let's see here.

00:03:38.23
Mike
Listen to the kind voice inside. Listen to the voice that tells you you're good enough. Listen to the voice that tells you it's okay to make mistakes. You'll learn from them.

00:03:50.16
Mike
Listen to the voice that tells you to go to your meeting, even though it's cold outside and you're tired. Listen and let the voice become more and more clear.

00:04:00.99
Mike
Listen and welcome it into your heart. Talk with this voice. Ask it questions and seek it out when you need a friend. This voice is your higher power.

00:04:12.16
Mike
Listen as your higher power speaks to you. Listen as your higher power tells you what a great person you are. Prayer for the day.

00:04:22.62
Mike
i pray to the gentle, loving voice that lives in me. Higher power. you're out You've always been kind to me. You've always loved me. Help me to remember you're always there within me.

00:04:38.55
Mike
Action for the day. i will take some time from my busy day to listen and talk with the loving voice that lives inside me. yeah

00:04:52.44
Bill
Okay, so siri seriously Billy Joel?

00:04:58.12
Mike
I decided that's what it says.

00:05:00.32
Bill
What was the line again? What did he say?

00:05:01.81
Mike
ah We're only human. We're supposed to make mistakes.

00:05:06.91
Bill
It wasn't only the good die young?

00:05:07.05
Mike
I'm a so i vibe assuming it's a song, but I don't recognize it.

00:05:13.41
Bill
Vienna waits for me.

00:05:14.95
Mike
Right.

00:05:16.07
Bill
Sing us a song.

00:05:17.93
Mike
I didn't start the fire.

00:05:23.20
Bill
You know what?

00:05:23.33
Mike
Even though the little voice inside of me told me to start it.

00:05:23.82
Bill
Uh,

00:05:26.26
Mike
Right.

00:05:27.12
Bill
I, I do.

00:05:28.50
Mike
Right.

00:05:28.51
Bill
I just, I don't, I don't remember. Um, there's a lot of things I don't remember with a lot of the readings, but Billy Joel, um, okay.

00:05:31.70
Mike
Mm-hmm. right

00:05:38.40
Bill
it's He's not sober. Is he? I mean, why? I mean, not that the the people that are in there know, cause he got Oprah's and all, nevermind.

00:05:42.27
Mike
right

00:05:44.26
Bill
That's even, that's even a stupid question. Not that they only pick sober people in there, but, uh,

00:05:47.97
Mike
he

00:05:48.72
Bill
I don't know that out of all the ones that you've read, um you know who these names are and who the people are in their backgrounds. I'm, I'm most floored by fucking Billy Joel. Yeah.

00:05:57.77
Mike
Well, I mean, you know, the same people that wrote this book wrote God Grant Me, and I mean, there's Groucho Marx and Frank Zappa, and that's why I picked up the book in the first place.

00:06:07.20
Bill
Yeah, but I mean, Frank Zappa and Groucho Marx are kind of, those are kind of fun, cool characters.

00:06:07.51
Mike
um

00:06:11.56
Bill
I mean, Billy Joel had a place in my life and still does in certain songs that I enjoy.

00:06:11.80
Mike
Sure. Hmm.

00:06:16.10
Bill
I enjoy his music. I have nothing think against him, but I don't know.

00:06:19.55
Mike
Right.

00:06:19.70
Bill
It just seemed to be, i don't and don't need Billy Joel to show up in my morning reading, I guess is my point.

00:06:22.63
Mike
Well... I think, right. And um I mean, it kind of kind of fits the mood of the entire reading as far as I'm concerned.

00:06:33.92
Bill
right

00:06:34.11
Mike
um yeah yeah

00:06:36.09
Bill
The fact that we didn't need the reading at all? or

00:06:38.31
Mike
ah zi that from Whatever, man. Little voices inside of me. and not exactly I don't...

00:06:42.26
Bill
I know.

00:06:45.44
Mike
Whatever, man. It's what happens when you spin the wheel. You never know what you're going to fucking get.

00:06:49.98
Bill
Well, it only reminded me of, and this might be may at least be something for us to laugh at a little bit further. The, you know, I'm good enough. It's okay to make mistakes. It just reminded me of Stuart Smalley. And, you know, for you young folks, that I realize our audience is primarily like 50% of our audience on here is the 45 or I think 49 to 50, 45, whatever it is, mid forties to mid fifties or upper fifties is our audience.

00:06:59.56
Mike
ah Exactly.

00:07:13.67
Bill
So everyone, I would think within that age range would know who Stuart Smalley is, but you know, he's the

00:07:14.37
Mike
Right.

00:07:16.91
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. United States Senator.

00:07:21.58
Bill
As it turned out, he ended up being fucking Al Franken, ended up being a senator of all people. But then again, Arnold Schwarzenegger became a governor.

00:07:26.87
Mike
yep

00:07:29.00
Bill
So, you know, and Jesse Ventura gabe b was a governor.

00:07:29.51
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:07:32.23
Bill
But um I don't know the...

00:07:32.23
Mike
Right. right Donald Trump, game show host, is the president.

00:07:37.04
Bill
You know what? That's, that might be, that's, that's the winner. That is the winner right there.

00:07:39.68
Mike
Right.

00:07:40.62
Bill
Fucking Donald Trump. Some, you know what, recently, um, you know, the, what was it?

00:07:44.91
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:07:47.09
Bill
The, uh, Home Alone 2, the New York City one, when Donald Trump has the cameo in there, there was, I swear to God, there was a group recently.

00:07:49.77
Mike
Right.

00:07:52.17
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:07:56.23
Bill
I don't remember if it was a media group or whatever it was, but somebody either was petitioning for, or a media group, whoever was playing the movie, um, it said they were going to cut out, cut out that, uh,

00:08:03.60
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:08:06.35
Mike
Yeah.

00:08:06.54
Bill
ah part of the movie. And I'm like like, okay, I get it. He's a fucking knob and all that stuff.

00:08:10.51
Mike
Right.

00:08:10.83
Bill
But I'm like the, it's such an innocent and fun exchange.

00:08:11.23
Mike
Yeah.

00:08:14.31
Bill
And I mean, let, let's go back to when, you know, Trump was just a, just some dude walking through and having a, having a kind conversation with Macaulay Culkin and not trying to be the fucking, you know, knob that he is now.

00:08:22.15
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:08:25.56
Mike
Right.

00:08:25.63
Bill
So um I don't know. It just kind of made me laugh, but back to Stuart Smalley really quick.

00:08:30.68
Mike
Yes.

00:08:30.79
Bill
And I'm sure you remember the, the Michael Jordan one. You remember seeing that one?

00:08:34.56
Mike
ah Vaguely.

00:08:36.93
Bill
He's just... got Michael Jordan down there and he's making, but by now Michael look in the mirror.

00:08:41.65
Mike
Right.

00:08:41.91
Bill
I'm good enough, strong enough, whatever. i could dribble the basketball better than whatever. I'm a good dribbler. I was good. All these different things. Fucking Jordan's trying to it's just try so hard not to laugh, but it's just so fucking ridiculous.

00:08:52.28
Mike
Right.

00:08:53.93
Bill
But that was the point of the, of the character. So, um, yeah.

00:08:57.16
Mike
Right.

00:08:58.40
Bill
Okay. So, um, bi Mike, Mike had his reading. This is going to be my, in my intro, Mike started out with his reading about Stuart Smalley.

00:09:01.95
Mike
who

00:09:05.54
Bill
I, um,

00:09:05.85
Mike
Right.

00:09:07.70
Bill
me see. What else did I wrote down? the Supposed to make mistakes. we We it's okay to make mistakes, right?

00:09:12.07
Mike
Right. Absolutely.

00:09:12.77
Bill
um

00:09:13.30
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:09:13.60
Bill
I wrote down good enough. We already talked about that. Okay. To make mistakes. I guess that goes along with supposed to make mistakes.

00:09:20.07
Mike
Right.

00:09:20.22
Bill
Then I wrote down, listen to the voice. And then the, whatever the dribble was between that and then the end line, not you, ah but it said, take time to listen and talk to the voice.

00:09:27.59
Mike
Right.

00:09:32.89
Bill
Okay.

00:09:33.12
Mike
Yes.

00:09:33.25
Bill
and One part of it was Listen to the voice Because the voice is your friend

00:09:41.93
Bill
I'm sitting there I'm trying to make these little fucking notes And i'm like, what the f- Where are you getting this from? Is this really?

00:09:47.11
Mike
I don't get right. It really is from Keep It Simple August 5th. It really is. Mm-hmm.

00:09:53.66
Bill
and That's coming up. I can't, when that comes around this year, I'm just going I know it'll pop into my head I'll remember it.

00:09:57.52
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:09:59.91
Bill
um I think it was the reading today or yesterday as one of the one of the ones that you read, which really stuck with me. it was a good reading. And I, as so I started,

00:10:07.99
Mike
As opposed to this.

00:10:10.61
Bill
Yes.

00:10:11.73
Mike
Right.

00:10:12.03
Bill
Um, but it's just like, just like a bad meeting.

00:10:12.11
Mike
Right. Right.

00:10:14.67
Bill
Like by my first sponsor with a wonderful man that he was, um, you know, he said that, uh, you know, he goes, everyone always tells you you're supposed to take something away from meeting.

00:10:17.77
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:10:22.80
Bill
and I'm like, okay.

00:10:23.47
Mike
Right.

00:10:24.07
Bill
And he goes, no matter what he goes, you got it, you got to walk away with something. I'm like, okay. And he said, even if the only good part of the meeting was the fact that you got to leave, he said, pick something, take something good from that meeting.

00:10:28.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:10:32.87
Mike
right

00:10:37.00
Bill
I'm like, I get you. I understand.

00:10:38.65
Mike
here

00:10:39.99
Bill
I get it now. You know, we don't have to be, it doesn't have to be all, you know, fucking sunshine and roses. And we all could, that was the greatest fucking meeting ever. And we don't have to sit here and lie to our listeners and say, that was the best reading we've ever had.

00:10:50.78
Mike
Right.

00:10:51.48
Bill
And we can really take everything from it. And we're only, you know, 11 minutes in and we can probably talk for another 20 minutes about this reading, which we're not going to.

00:10:57.84
Mike
Sure.

00:10:58.62
Bill
Yeah.

00:10:58.77
Mike
No, we're not. I will say this. um Yes, the little voice in my head, i don't listen to it anymore.

00:11:09.46
Mike
Little voice in my head is an evil son of a bitch. Yes, the inner government is the whole problem.

00:11:12.62
Bill
Right.

00:11:15.83
Mike
um Right. I listen things that I've heard from other people's heads. That seems to work much better for me these days.

00:11:23.52
Bill
Right.

00:11:26.73
Bill
Right. I mean, the the things that are now the the the little voice inside our head or what are, I think what I feel are my instincts is when I'm in a circumstance and and I start to feel, um you know, queasy or a little sick to my stomach or get that twinge, that's that little voice and that's that my instinct inside of me saying that, hey, yeah.

00:11:46.78
Mike
no

00:11:47.16
Bill
Then, um you know, then again, like you said, all the outside stuff that we know that we've been able to, you know, thankfully glom onto, those are the other things that like, yeah, you need to get you get the fuck out of here.

00:11:54.90
Mike
Right.

00:11:58.67
Bill
You need ah to not listen to this little quiver in your tummy right now. You need to fucking go.

00:12:04.17
Mike
Right.

00:12:05.11
Bill
So, yeah, i can't i can't say and i can't say it any any better than that. The little voice in our head. What did you say? That's the one we don't listen to anymore?

00:12:11.97
Mike
Yes.

00:12:12.34
Bill
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

00:12:14.68
Mike
That little voice in my head wants to kill me.

00:12:17.16
Bill
Right. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So, okay. That's a, you know, I say it all the time, Mike, and I'm not going to say it this time. That was not a great reading,

00:12:23.91
Mike
No, it was not.

00:12:26.25
Bill
yeah

00:12:26.28
Mike
No.

00:12:27.08
Bill
but again, nothing, it had nothing to do with you. Even if you would have picked it, I, if you would have picked it, I would have been like, yeah, okay.

00:12:32.06
Mike
ah Well, if I picked it, you know, yes. No, I wouldn't have. if

00:12:37.30
Bill
yeah but

00:12:37.89
Mike
Right. If you pick it, it'll never heal.

00:12:41.11
Bill
Speaking of it, you want me to tell you about my leg real quick? Yeah.

00:12:43.65
Mike
I'm sure.

00:12:45.28
Bill
All right. I'm going to, I'll try to make this, make this, i don't know. I don't know. There's part of it. That's kind of gross, but what whatever.

00:12:50.92
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:12:51.25
Bill
um If you want to turn this, somebody wants to turn this off for a couple of minutes, fast forward. Then when I get done talking about my leg, you can turn it back on. um I can walk fine now. It's all, that part's all good. No limping, no, no anything like that.

00:13:02.98
Bill
um i can put my shoe back on. I haven't tightened everything up, but I haven't tried to, my foot's still a little bit swollen, but back to normal ish. Right. Um, but what happened was that I, I told you, obviously when I was by your place, once the swelling started to go down, um, I think that the scab just separated.

00:13:18.70
Bill
So it was, you know, bleeding. That's why I had, again, all the, all the medical waste, um, that's continued, but lessened.

00:13:22.39
Mike
Uh-huh. All right. Mm-hmm.

00:13:25.00
Bill
Okay.

00:13:25.75
Mike
ah hu

00:13:25.79
Bill
Um, but the other day I had, uh, so I still put the bandage on ah today was the first day I had it off completely because it was just, again, you gotta, it's gotta dry out. It's gonna start to yield, whatever. Um, but yesterday morning, um, before I was going to get in the shower, I took the bandage off and I could tell the scab was just, it felt like it was like all separated from around, like almost like it was just a top, like a little floater scab.

00:13:35.37
Mike
right

00:13:48.60
Bill
And I'm like, God, I wonder if I need to take that off of there at some point, it was just going to fall off so it can heal.

00:13:51.08
Mike
Oh, God. Uh-huh.

00:13:53.19
Bill
Right. Well, the bandage did it for me.

00:13:56.15
Mike
Ah.

00:13:57.22
Bill
It opened like ah like the top of ah the toilet, right?

00:14:00.19
Mike
Great.

00:14:00.79
Bill
And still connected on one end. And I'm like, well, I can't pull that.

00:14:02.65
Mike
Mm.

00:14:03.68
Bill
I'm going to, you know, fucking rip my leg. So I grabbed my scissors.

00:14:12.35
Bill
And now it's back on the road to healing. So there, there's my, there's my leg story, but um it looks fucking gross.

00:14:15.50
Mike
All right.

00:14:17.30
Bill
And Kathy's like, that she's like, are are you going to maybe go to the doctor? I'm like, why? I said, tate really, if you really look at it, it's not infected. It's not, it's not hot. It's not red. There's nothing bad going on.

00:14:27.81
Mike
here

00:14:27.96
Bill
It's just a big, so it's just an open wound. That's got to fucking heal. Like what, what's the doctor going to tell me? going spend, you know, fucking $500 for him to be like, well, um, keep it dry, keep it clean.

00:14:37.89
Mike
beautiful Right.

00:14:39.45
Bill
um but Let it air out so it scabs up. Dude, that's what I've been doing. Pay me $500.

00:14:44.18
Mike
Right.

00:14:44.51
Bill
If lucky, it's only $500. So, enough of that.

00:14:45.94
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:14:48.87
Bill
so but up for that

00:14:50.82
Mike
All right. Yes. So no amputations yet.

00:14:53.74
Bill
No, no, it's seriously, it's all good. My ankle's still a little bit of tight where i where I twisted my ankle, but now I'm all good. So um do tell about this weekend. So you've got, what are the reasons?

00:15:02.82
Mike
Right.

00:15:03.75
Bill
Well, the reason um that we're recording early, which is perfect. i

00:15:07.38
Mike
Right.

00:15:07.55
Bill
As I've said before, I do nothing during the week anyhow. um So it's not like I'm like, ooh, got to check my calendar and see if I can record on a Wednesday versus a Thursday or a Friday.

00:15:14.84
Mike
Right. Uh-huh.

00:15:18.53
Bill
um But so anyhow, you've got you've got a trip going on.

00:15:18.79
Mike
huh

00:15:20.76
Bill
So do tell.

00:15:21.27
Mike
I do. I am going to Washington, D.C. for the weekend. Bit of a long weekend.

00:15:25.97
Bill
Aha. aha

00:15:26.58
Mike
Yes. Aha. I've actually never spent any time there. I've been through and I've been around and through on a bus once and and around it, driving several times, but...

00:15:39.14
Mike
Yeah, because you can't drive a truck into the city there. They've got restrictions. And yeah, anyway, so never been. Going to go hang out. Chris's son, Cameron, who he's the one that's in the Air Force and listens to this occasionally. and Hi, Cameron.

00:15:55.33
Mike
um Yeah, he's... ah getting his bachelor's degree. He's in the air force, like I said, so they're having some sort of ceremony there in DC. And so he and his wife and his two daughters and Chris and I, we're all going to hang out and celebrate Cameron's achievement.

00:16:12.44
Bill
Very nice. And hi, Cameron. I was taking a big drink of coffee when Mike said, hi, Cameron, or I would have said that, but I would have spit it all lot out over my my desk and I don't want to do that today.

00:16:15.76
Mike
Hmm.

00:16:18.71
Mike
Yeah.

00:16:20.81
Bill
So um yeah, congratulations, Cameron.

00:16:23.19
Mike
Yes.

00:16:23.66
Bill
But um so step back a minute. and I want to get back to the whole, yeah obviously the the reason you're going there, but I mean, it makes sense when you you, you cannot drive a truck into the city.

00:16:26.08
Mike
Hmm.

00:16:36.25
Bill
And again, now that you said it, it makes sense, but yeah,

00:16:37.98
Mike
Right.

00:16:39.81
Bill
In all the truck driving and deliveries and all that stuff that you did, when if you had a delivery in that area, what do they do then with stuff that has to get to, I don't know, the Hyatt on right by the Capitol where like Don and I stayed?

00:16:51.07
Mike
right

00:16:52.36
Bill
What do they do?

00:16:53.32
Mike
Right. i um I would imagine there's some sort of distribution thing. and they take I mean, they take box trucks in, but semis. um And I mean, I'm sure there's, you know, some that are permitted.

00:17:04.06
Mike
permit permitted And, you know, I'm sure there's like extra back around checks and crap like that. Yeah.

00:17:10.73
Bill
Right.

00:17:11.37
Mike
yeah But, you know, just your regular average, you know, big old semi cruising in. You can't go into D.C. Because, you know, I mean, yeah, right.

00:17:19.76
Bill
Well,

00:17:21.24
Mike
You can drive that shit through buildings.

00:17:23.49
Bill
ah right. Yeah. And I, I don't mean to laugh because that, yeah.

00:17:25.03
Mike
Right. Which like, yeah, I mean, I think about 25 years ago or something like that. um I mean, in Sacramento, um some dude took a semi and drove it into the Capitol.

00:17:37.94
Bill
Oh, really?

00:17:38.55
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. You know, he's like, I guess he circled around and then worked up some speed and, you know, i mean, the Capitol building in Sacramento is in the middle of a, like a park and,

00:17:51.05
Mike
called Capitol Park. Imagine that. And, uh, but yeah yeah, I mean, so they ended up like putting concrete barriers and stuff around and yeah, you know, but yeah, some, some idiot had a problem with something and decided he was going to ram his truck into the Capitol building in California.

00:18:08.72
Mike
Yeah.

00:18:09.28
Bill
Right.

00:18:10.50
Mike
So anyway, so yes, um, it's very restricted in DC. So I've never driven in there.

00:18:17.64
Bill
Interesting. So, and that was honestly what, you know, it it did surprise me when you had said that you'd been in and around, but actually had never, had never been there before. But um I mean, that that's cool.

00:18:26.41
Mike
Right.

00:18:27.88
Bill
But so was um I mean, Cameron's obviously he's still in Illinois or no.

00:18:34.70
Mike
No, no, no. God, no. He's in Alaska.

00:18:36.75
Bill
Okay, so that's, I got that right. I'm like, that I was going to say Alaska, but I'm like, okay, so, but they just have, they're having the,

00:18:39.60
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he was last, his last, ah yeah, whatever, assignment. i don't know. I'm using the wrong word. But, what yeah, last place he was was outside of St. Louis in Illinois, southern Illinois.

00:18:53.31
Mike
But, yeah, nope, they're stationed up. Stationed. That's what I'm thinking of.

00:18:56.53
Bill
station there we go yeah and that's that's what i thought i'm like it because for a minute there i didn't want to say that i'm like did i get that fucking wrong because he had messaged me and he's like oh with all the traveling you're doing are you ever plan on getting up here i'm like i'd love to i'm like that's not going to be it's not on my immediate to-do list but he's like hey if you're here you'd have a place to stay or whatever it's actually very nice you know but um

00:18:56.76
Mike
ah Up in Alaska now.

00:19:09.18
Mike
Hmm.

00:19:15.71
Mike
Right. Yes. Right.

00:19:18.17
Bill
But I'm like, oh, fuck, I don't even know when. God only knows if you'd be there. or I mean, should I could be dead before I get to Alaska? um You know, but I would love to go up there sometime.

00:19:24.86
Mike
Yes.

00:19:26.94
Bill
But so regardless of where he is stationed, now that we know the word and good, good point that, because I couldn't think of it either.

00:19:27.31
Mike
Right.

00:19:31.43
Mike
Yes.

00:19:34.22
Bill
i was just like, yeah, posted ah there, whatever.

00:19:36.80
Mike
Right. Yeah. Yeah.

00:19:39.41
Bill
um So, they yeah, they're just having the ceremony, though, in D.C., which is cool.

00:19:42.58
Mike
Yes.

00:19:43.19
Bill
Very cool.

00:19:43.32
Mike
Yep. Yeah. So, yeah, that's what we're doing. And I will have more details next week after I've actually done it.

00:19:50.92
Bill
Nice. So where are you guys? are you guys staying in a hotel? Are you staying around the base or.

00:19:54.35
Mike
Yeah, no, yeah, some Hotel Cameron took care of all that. We just needed to get our asses there. ah Got a lovely story about that, too. All right, so, um right, the re one of the reasons we're recording on a Wednesday and not Thursday and certainly not Friday, because I'll be there Friday, but um my flight leaves at like five in the morning from Cleveland.

00:20:17.82
Mike
um It's a direct flight. It's cool. It's like an hour and a half or something. It's nothing. um But so Chris and I were out for brunch on Sunday and we're talking about the upcoming trip and blah, blah, blah.

00:20:32.23
Mike
And I'm talking about, you know, the flight and getting to the airport and stuff. She's like going crazy. i don't something's wrong and I'm all what and she said I'm pretty sure our flight's like in the afternoon and I'm going no I've gotten the emails and stuff so when we originally booked it she booked her flight and then I booked she sent me the information of the flight she was on and I booked mine like the following day right So she went back and looked through her texts and and all that stuff. And yes, the the numbers of the flight that she sent me is the one that leaves at five in the morning.

00:21:13.08
Mike
She booked her flight for two in the afternoon.

00:21:16.67
Bill
ah

00:21:19.38
Mike
Uh-huh. And of course, we're, you know, super saver and blah, blah, blah. So um I can't change it. And we went through like Priceline. So um I can't change shit. So I'm flying out by myself at five in the morning. And she thankfully, Cameron and they're going to be there. They're getting there Thursday.

00:21:39.24
Mike
So he's going to be able to pick me up because I'm like, well, fuck, I guess I'm just going to wander around the city for a while.

00:21:48.16
Bill
Yeah, in the, um what which airport are you flying into? Because DC is just, oh, it is right.

00:21:51.32
Mike
Reagan.

00:21:52.50
Bill
Okay.

00:21:52.89
Mike
Yeah.

00:21:53.30
Bill
um And I can't remember, maybe that is where, I don't remember. Dawn and I flew in there and this was, I mean, shit back in 2000.

00:22:00.31
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:22:00.42
Bill
was born already, 2002 or 2003, something like that, maybe.

00:22:03.07
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:22:04.04
Bill
um And then we had rented a car and drove in and it was weird. I mean, again, you've driven around the city. So, you know, those roads are a little bit fucked up.

00:22:10.41
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:22:11.54
Bill
You take one wrong turn and you're around this big, it's like a belt line type of thing, right?

00:22:12.12
Mike
Right.

00:22:15.30
Bill
If I remember right.

00:22:15.42
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. The Beltway.

00:22:17.00
Bill
Yeah. And Madison's like that. Madison has a belt line that goes all the way around the city.

00:22:19.52
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:22:21.27
Bill
um But it was, I mean, obviously before GPS, really fucking confusing. um And we drank on the way out there.

00:22:26.18
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:22:28.61
Bill
So that probably didn't help.

00:22:29.50
Mike
Mm.

00:22:30.27
Bill
Let me just side note.

00:22:30.90
Mike
Sure.

00:22:31.76
Bill
I was buzzed up too. Let's just, and it was dark.

00:22:35.67
Mike
Right.

00:22:36.61
Bill
But, dumb yeah, I just couldn't I couldn't remember from where the airport was to where because we literally stayed. We stayed at the Hyatt, which was, i don't know, two or three blocks away from the Capitol.

00:22:46.60
Bill
So you could when you walked out the front door, you looked and there's capitals kind of fucking cool.

00:22:47.21
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:22:50.53
Mike
Right.

00:22:50.75
Bill
Um, but, um, yeah, it was just, it was, it was weird getting in there, but, um, yeah, to your point, if you just went to the airport, I mean, I, you're not like literally right in the city. You'd have to probably have to fucking Uber it into the city and just kick around if you were by yourself, I would assume.

00:23:05.25
Mike
Right.

00:23:05.32
Bill
Right.

00:23:05.61
Mike
Well, I mean, no, Reagan is the one that is in the city. It's the small one.

00:23:09.21
Bill
Oh, it Right.

00:23:09.87
Mike
Yeah, it's the small one that, you know, all the politicians use and that's why it's there.

00:23:14.63
Bill
Right.

00:23:14.98
Mike
um Yeah. I mean, the other one is the Dulles, which is like out in Virginia.

00:23:20.57
Bill
That's it. That's the one we flew in We flew into Dulles.

00:23:21.49
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:23:23.17
Bill
That's right.

00:23:23.36
Mike
Right.

00:23:23.57
Bill
Okay.

00:23:23.88
Mike
That's the big one.

00:23:23.97
Bill
Okay. I gotcha. Okay. Okay. That's that makes, that makes sense now. And I was literally in my head. I had, I had Dulles in my head. I'm like, no, that's, I'm like, no, that's something else. But that is that that'd be one of Virginia, Maryland or no, no Virginia.

00:23:36.45
Mike
yeah Yeah, it's Virginia.

00:23:37.15
Bill
Okay.

00:23:37.53
Mike
ah Yeah.

00:23:38.24
Bill
Okay. Okay. Gotcha.

00:23:39.65
Mike
Yeah.

00:23:39.82
Bill
Yeah, weird. I think i um I did some training. I flew into Dulles one other time. That's when there was a literally like ah like a fucking bomb scare at the airport.

00:23:49.98
Bill
Did I ever tell you about that?

00:23:50.47
Mike
Nice.

00:23:51.94
Bill
Yeah.

00:23:54.08
Mike
What'd you do? Yeah.

00:23:55.28
Bill
No, surprisingly enough, nothing. But so this was, you know, post 9-11. So probably again, a year or two, maybe even a year after a year or two after that.

00:24:04.02
Mike
Mm-hmm. All

00:24:06.15
Bill
And again, Dulles, you know how fucking huge it is. Fucking just massive.

00:24:10.10
Mike
right.

00:24:10.58
Bill
And I used to, and I trained for a company or did training for a company for a couple of days. So, um you know, it was like after the workday, my flight didn't fly out until, i don't know, it was like seven or whatever.

00:24:21.41
Bill
And he goes, are you sure? Just to go back to the airport. I'm like, yeah, I said, I'll grab something to eat. I'm good good. Just drop me off. I'm fine.

00:24:26.76
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:24:26.92
Bill
So, and at that point you could still go, which I did a lot of airports at that time. I go into the airport, of course, drink. I could, I'd find a bar restaurant that I could, where I could drink and smoke.

00:24:33.34
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:24:36.92
Mike
Right?

00:24:37.30
Bill
Cause you could, you know, in some of these places,

00:24:38.14
Mike
Sure. Right?

00:24:39.73
Bill
So I'm doing that I grab something to eat and I'm hearing like in the background, almost like a, like an alarm, you know, and not, not like a, I don't know, not like a constant ringing, but a little bit of a beeping and whatever.

00:24:46.86
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:24:52.06
Bill
So I'm not even paying attention, but at one point I'm looking i'm like, ah, I better, better make my way. So I head back up to the main concourse in this, obviously this alarm is getting louder now.

00:25:01.58
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:25:01.97
Bill
And, you know, the, these, the concourses go off and kind of like fingers, like O'Hare, if I remember correctly.

00:25:02.04
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:25:07.14
Mike
All right.

00:25:07.61
Bill
So like A, B, C, D type of thing. So I had to go down, whatever, the C concourse and like D was right there, one to the left, one to the right. So I walk up and I mean, C concourse where I'm supposed to go is completely blocked off. to like, yeah, you got to go over there.

00:25:21.82
Bill
You know, in the, in the main concourse, you know, the, this concourse is closed. They're going to get you and Don't worry. We'll get you on your flight. And I'm like, don't worry. Get me my flight. What the fuck are you talking about? So I go out in the main concourse and I start walking and there's this huge line of people and I'm just, I'm kind of fucking, I'm just like, what's going on here?

00:25:40.44
Bill
And then i just kind of walked up to one of people in line. i'm like, is is this everyone waiting to board for sea concourse? He's like, hey, he goes there. had some sort of incident. And I said, he's like, yeah, but I said, where's the line? And he's like, what back there.

00:25:53.46
Bill
Way the fuck back. So they went everyone through the main concourse, ran everyone through the international concourse, through this back area into the sea concourse. you know, new things. So the check in everyone all said and done, they got everyone like is American flight. 727 will come up.

00:26:09.42
Bill
The people will come up with big signs and then everyone in those they'd let out online, let them through here. And they did that. No flights missed. Cause I looked it up afterwards. Yeah.

00:26:17.70
Mike
That

00:26:17.85
Bill
And I'm standing next to this guy this whole time. um And we're talking, we're shooting the shit, whatever. We're just about to get through the gate. And I'm like, I said, yeah, I just, you know, he says, you live in Wisconsin. He said, where, whereabouts? And I told him, I said, live in Germantown. He goes, I live in Sussex. I'm like, well, shit, my in-laws live in Sussex. I'm like, you might even know them. He's like, what's your last name? and I told him and he's like, just you're shitting me.

00:26:39.42
Bill
And I'm like, no. And he goes, that's my aunt and uncle.

00:26:42.11
Mike
that

00:26:42.97
Bill
So my in-law, i was i was sitting there for an hour or so with one of Dawn's cousins.

00:26:48.62
Mike
yeah

00:26:49.50
Bill
Had no fucking idea. So just really fucking weird. But as it turned out, the reason the concourse got closed, some dude jumped one of the turnstiles with a box.

00:27:00.74
Mike
e

00:27:00.77
Bill
Okay. And just started running down. And this is, again, post nine eleven

00:27:03.78
Mike
Right, right.

00:27:05.19
Bill
Starts running down. So they fucking tackle him, bomb squad the whole bit. And then the problem was is that he had, they ended up closing C and D because he was supposed to fly out of D but ran down C. So they closed all of these.

00:27:18.92
Bill
Fucking concourses. And I don't even remember what it was. He didn't have a bomb. i don't know what the fuck he was doing.

00:27:23.50
Mike
Right.

00:27:23.72
Bill
you know But yeah he just fucking jumped it. and Yeah, it's just fucking crazy.

00:27:26.45
Mike
Hmm.

00:27:27.25
Bill
so but um So you guys are, are you you said long weekend?

00:27:27.30
Mike
All right.

00:27:31.17
Bill
when How long are you guys staying?

00:27:32.61
Mike
um Yeah, we're going Friday. We'll be flying back late Sunday.

00:27:36.36
Bill
Oh, that's cool. That's cool.

00:27:37.28
Mike
ah

00:27:38.25
Bill
Well, I mean, hopefully the the weather will be nice. I mean, this time of year it should be.

00:27:41.39
Mike
Supposed to be. yep Yeah, it's supposed to be like mid 70s and, you know, partly cloudy, partly sunny, whatever the hell. Yeah.

00:27:50.27
Bill
Mid seventies and a mix of everything else, but rain, right?

00:27:52.47
Mike
yeah Yeah, right, exactly. It's supposed to be dry, so, yeah, hopefully we'll be able to.

00:27:56.18
Bill
Well,

00:27:56.88
Mike
Yeah, and it's things like ah like Saturday afternoon, so, you know, we'll have Friday night and and Saturday morning and in most of Sunday, just bop around. You know, I'm going to get a picture of myself in front of the White House, giving it finger.

00:28:10.19
Mike
ah Hopefully in front of the Congress, giving it a finger. ah Supreme Court, give it the finger. um well Well, whatever. going wave my fingers around a lot.

00:28:24.53
Bill
So that's won't be sitting on the toilet, smelling your finger, you know, or anything like that.

00:28:27.87
Mike
No, that's Dr.

00:28:29.05
Bill
Or right.

00:28:29.33
Mike
Bob's house.

00:28:30.27
Bill
That's Dr. Bob's house. But this is the this is the other the house of the other individuals you're just going to be flipping off.

00:28:34.72
Mike
and si

00:28:35.97
Bill
It's kind of funny.

00:28:36.20
Mike
Yeah, pretty much.

00:28:38.30
Bill
Yeah, we did the, we did the whole walking tour, um, around there, walked, I don't know how, how long, you know, we did, uh, you know, at that timeframe, but it was pretty fucking cool.

00:28:44.09
Mike
Right.

00:28:46.40
Bill
It went by the, obviously all the memorials and things and the monuments. And there was only one that we missed and I can't remember what, cause that was kind of on the other side of whatever to get there.

00:28:51.34
Mike
Right.

00:28:55.87
Bill
But, um, It was nice. It was, it was cool. I'm glad I went, I wouldn't mind going again. um you know, at some point, but, but um, I don't, I'm not a government guy. I'm not a fucking God guy, but, um, I don't know.

00:29:05.66
Mike
Right.

00:29:06.73
Bill
There's some, there's some pretty fucking cool history around there. Some, some cool things to look at and then other things to give the finger to.

00:29:11.09
Mike
Yeah.

00:29:13.56
Mike
Right. Wave your fingers too.

00:29:15.86
Bill
Is there anything, is there anything positive that you want to see there?

00:29:15.90
Mike
Yep.

00:29:18.88
Bill
Yeah.

00:29:19.90
Mike
um I mean, i don't, you know, again, i don't know, you know, what kind of time we're going to have. I'm i'm going. um

00:29:27.64
Bill
Right.

00:29:28.08
Mike
i mean, i'd yeah, I'd love to do the Air and Space Museum, but we'll see.

00:29:31.16
Bill
Yeah. Yeah, that would be that would be cool.

00:29:35.06
Mike
yeah

00:29:36.17
Bill
All right. Well, um, oh yeah, I decided that, uh, okay. And this is, uh, okay. So I'll give you the opportunity to, um, I guess, judge my, I don't know, my decisions.

00:29:47.58
Bill
Okay.

00:29:48.15
Mike
Ooh, I get to judge. One of my favorite things.

00:29:49.47
Bill
yeah So I'm trying to figure out in, and I picked one thing over the other and cause figuring out which one's more responsible. Okay.

00:29:58.50
Mike
and All right.

00:29:58.83
Bill
Are you, are you ready?

00:30:00.04
Mike
something kind

00:30:00.27
Bill
yeah Okay. So next week, Friday, again, as I mentioned, we have our good friend Shirley on and And I had booked the two weeks in Arkansas, obviously starting, not obviously, but starting not this weekend, but next week in the 17th through the 31st.

00:30:16.06
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:30:16.20
Bill
So to get to where I'm going in Arkansas, drive time plus my stops and whatever, get down there.

00:30:16.42
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:30:21.92
Bill
I mean, we're 10 and a half hours from here.

00:30:24.46
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:30:25.02
Bill
And we're recording, obviously, at normal time and this, that, and the other thing. And I'm like, after all said and done, I'm looking at you know when I want to get up, when I leave, and this, that, and the other thing. And it was back to the point of you know that literally that two and a half hours of sleep coming out of North Carolina back here for Easter um about fucking wrecked me.

00:30:41.36
Mike
Uh-huh. ah hu

00:30:44.23
Bill
It's just not enough. I mean, again, it's amazing that four hours of sleep is, it's not great, but it's doable.

00:30:50.29
Mike
Right. Sure.

00:30:52.01
Bill
Two and a half is just, just not, you know?

00:30:53.11
Mike
Hmm. Nah. Right.

00:30:55.84
Bill
So I'm like, and it's not like I could say, Hey, should we record another day? No, we've got a guest, you know? So it was going to fucking deal with it. But then I thought about i'm like, well, what if, what if there's a place in between for next week that I can find relatively inexpensive, blah, blah, blah, this and that. So, um, I'm going to Branson next week.

00:31:15.27
Mike
Ah.

00:31:15.56
Bill
I'm actually going down on Saturday. So what it'll end up doing is, I mean, that's the majority of my drive, you know, down there. It's from Branson. It's only a couple hours. But by the time I check out, I can kick around. don't have to worry about being tired or anything like that.

00:31:29.30
Bill
I still want to leave here at like seven in the morning this Saturday. um

00:31:32.71
Mike
Oh.

00:31:33.12
Bill
But we're not recording on Friday so I can get some sleep.

00:31:35.07
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:31:36.34
Bill
So that's where the, and ah again, i hadn't planned on spending the money, not a, not a, okay. Not on the super, super cheap end, but certainly not on the really high end and right in the realm of what I would normally spend someplace.

00:31:45.39
Mike
Right.

00:31:50.43
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:31:50.59
Bill
And again, it's a, it's a, it's a condo. It's a loft thing. It's not too far from the area where I stayed last time. So I know the area and whatever is quiet, it's comfortable. And you know, i'm like, okay, so today I, today I booked it.

00:32:01.33
Mike
Ah, cool.

00:32:01.95
Bill
So again, from being responsible versus irresponsible, maybe I shouldn't have spent the money. It's a monthly payment, you know, not a huge deal.

00:32:09.16
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:32:09.48
Bill
It's not going to kill me. But what what is more irresponsible, possibly, you know, working on a lack of sleep or spending a little bit of money?

00:32:10.75
Mike
Right.

00:32:19.39
Mike
Spend the money.

00:32:20.97
Bill
I know. I know. And when it came down to, I'm like, and I'm, I'm not, I'm not joking, man. I was fucking wiped out. There was a couple of times when, um, you know, I'm just like, I gotta, a I didn't get to the point where I had to pull over, but you know, when you're driving along and you're like, Ooh, you're like, I'm, I'm fucking tired, man.

00:32:32.16
Mike
Right.

00:32:34.81
Mike
Yeah.

00:32:36.83
Bill
Um, but I mean, I, I came out of it whenever it was fine, but I was just, yeah, by that night I was a fucking wreck. So, um So, yeah, I'm going to Branson on Saturday and then, you know, I have a nice leisurely day the following Saturday and don't have fucking worry about rushing. Oh, and good news.

00:32:51.81
Bill
I got an extension on my emission test.

00:32:55.53
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:32:56.57
Bill
Because I was going to, that's what I was going to do on Saturday. I was going to run up, ah have lunch with Katie and Derek and get my mission test done. So then when I started thinking this, I'm like, oh, fuck it. I'll just get up super early on Saturday morning.

00:33:07.95
Bill
I'll drive up to Kenosha right on the border, get a you know mission test and be done there.

00:33:10.35
Mike
right

00:33:12.99
Bill
Well, the only place that actually does it on a Saturday, it's not like right in, it's in Kenosha, but in a little bit towards the lake. So it's another, you know, from the highway, probably another half hour to get into there, 20 minutes maybe.

00:33:24.38
Bill
And then they don't open till nine. He's like, yeah, he goes, people are usually lined up on a Saturday. He goes, I can't even tell you how long it's going to take.

00:33:29.61
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:33:31.62
Bill
And then it it fucking defeats the purpose. So I'm looking at something online, um you know, trying to figure out, cause I see, oh, I can sometimes do it out of state, whatever. looking at that. Then like, you can apply for a one-time extension. I'm like, really?

00:33:45.01
Mike
All right.

00:33:45.95
Bill
Never had to do it. So I call this number and they're saying, if you are in Tennessee or New York, or if you're in Wisconsin, so it's this, like this call center hotline. So I get this lady on the phone, tell her what the deal is. I'm like, I'm going to be out of state.

00:33:58.13
Bill
You know, is there anything I said, i've never done this before? I don't know how this works. She's like, look, look, look, check, check, check. And she's like, um yeah, she goes, you're granted ah an automatic extension. I'm like, okay, just, just so you know, I said, it'll probably be, it'll be when, when we get back, obviously and until our founder's day, but it'll be after that.

00:34:13.48
Bill
I'm like the second, maybe a 14th of June, end of June at the latest, you know?

00:34:17.13
Mike
Right.

00:34:17.61
Bill
And she's like, um she's like, oh, your, your extension's good till September 4th. I'm like, I don't need that long. But then I'm like, like, okay. So on August 31st, when I'm freaking out about getting my admission test I'm like,

00:34:30.88
Bill
It's not going to happen because I want to go see my kids anyhow. But i I seriously, I did not know that I could do that.

00:34:33.17
Mike
right

00:34:36.52
Bill
And it's it's a brand new, not a brand new car, but there's nothing fucking wrong with it.

00:34:37.01
Mike
yeah right right

00:34:40.42
Bill
You know, so I'm like, yeah, so um'm ah I'm all free to do what i what I want to do this weekend. So there.

00:34:45.50
Mike
Good.

00:34:46.71
Bill
All right. So DC trip, uh, bill being irresponsible in one in a better way than the other way.

00:34:51.42
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:34:53.81
Bill
All right. So, um, I've got a couple of articles that I'll wrap up towards the end, but, uh, I came across a couple of things that the thing about the Pope, and this is the only reason I brought this up is because the name is fucking cool. Did you hear any of the, like what they're calling the front runners?

00:35:09.33
Mike
No.

00:35:10.37
Bill
Which I thought was kind of funny. They were talking about on the morning show and then a news article popped up. This dude's name, it's like, and it's all one word for a first name, like Pierre Batista. Okay, is his first name?

00:35:22.93
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:35:23.28
Bill
I swear to fucking God, his last name, Pizzaballa.

00:35:28.09
Mike
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

00:35:29.19
Bill
P I Z Z a B a L L a some dude, I think from Jerusalem, blah, blah, blah.

00:35:29.23
Mike
Ha, ha, ha,

00:35:35.64
Bill
I don't know. Um, but I'm like, are you fucking kidding me that I, when I saw the article pop up, it was a Facebook article. I had to, I scroll back a little bit. thought it was an onion article.

00:35:45.88
Mike
ha,

00:35:46.57
Bill
Because they're like, you know, front runner for post, a Cardinal pizza ball. And I'm like, the onion said it again.

00:35:53.55
Mike
Right.

00:35:53.59
Bill
no this is a real fucking dude.

00:35:53.94
Mike
Hmm.

00:35:55.95
Bill
He's Cardinal pizza ball. I'm like, I know, I know nothing about the whole pope thing. know nothing about the ah draft order and how he might fall in line and whatever, but it's, you know, I don't know if he's supposed to be, you know, got good odds to be the number one, number one, um you know, but I'm like,

00:36:03.97
Mike
a

00:36:13.12
Bill
That would be, i don't care about the Pope, but if there's going to be a Pope, let it be Mr. Pizza Bala.

00:36:18.41
Mike
Right. Well, I mean, you know, they changed his name anyway, but yeah

00:36:23.48
Bill
Yes, I realize that, but no, he, in my mind, he would be Pope Pizza Bala.

00:36:29.66
Mike
Hey, Popo Pizza Bala.

00:36:32.62
Bill
ah Seriously, like that, you can't you you can't make this fucking shit up. There's no way, there's no way that that that dude's name is right. But yeah, that is that is it. So...

00:36:40.78
Mike
All right.

00:36:41.98
Bill
All right, so how about some recovery stuff real quick? What do you think?

00:36:45.68
Mike
Let's do it.

00:36:47.13
Bill
All right, so um this one was, I think, just from the other day from God Grant Me. um It says, i will list all the things in recovery that bring me joy, and I will do more of those things, okay?

00:37:01.01
Mike
h

00:37:01.33
Bill
So my question is, what are the things do you think in your life that actually bring you joy? I mean, it sounds kind of... I don't know, obvious that, yeah, something makes me happier, brings me joy.

00:37:12.40
Bill
Of course, I want to do more of those things. But are there specific things in your life now, in your sober life, that that do bring you joy?

00:37:14.35
Mike
he

00:37:21.29
Bill
I don't mean that. That sounded really bad.

00:37:22.00
Mike
Right.

00:37:22.96
Bill
Right.

00:37:23.57
Mike
Right. um

00:37:28.46
Mike
I mean, I, you know, sure. Why not?

00:37:35.32
Mike
i don't ever have time to do any of them, but yeah, I, you know, yeah.

00:37:38.44
Bill
right

00:37:39.95
Mike
Um, I don't know. Yeah. Getting together with people and, you know, playing cards and shit. That's always fun. Um, we, yeah, you know, should do more of that.

00:37:47.57
Bill
Right.

00:37:51.17
Mike
Um, I can't think of a goddamn thing. It's, it

00:37:58.16
Bill
Well, you know, the the funny thing is, as I asked the question, it's almost, and I didn't mean it that way. so As I'm asking it, it's all it almost like was the undertone of, well, you're a grumpy fuck. What makes you happy?

00:38:07.78
Mike
bright Right.

00:38:07.95
Bill
And I and i didn't mean it. i And I swear i didn't write it down for that reason, that I didn't mean it for that reason. It was just the the way it caught me. I'm like, yeah, what what things make me happy? And do I focus on those sort of things? So...

00:38:22.30
Bill
There was no no no side notes, no undertones, no nothing like that. It wasn't implied that you're a grumpy fuck, so what makes you happy?

00:38:30.79
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. more i Yeah, exactly. I'm a grumpy fuck and I don't know. um Yeah, too busy trudging this road to happy destiny. Right.

00:38:41.92
Bill
baseball Baseball games. When you go to baseball games, that brings you joy.

00:38:44.11
Mike
I do.

00:38:44.98
Bill
Yeah.

00:38:45.19
Mike
Right, it does. oh Yes, I need to do more of that. um

00:38:48.99
Bill
yeah

00:38:49.42
Mike
you know Laying on my couch watching baseball games. it

00:38:52.92
Bill
Right. Well, I mean, I guess I meant both parts of it. I mean, I know going to the game, you really enjoy just doing, doing that sort of thing.

00:38:55.29
Mike
Right. Sure, course.

00:38:59.00
Bill
But, but yeah, just sitting there, you and I, you and I were watching a, I think a couple of games while I was there. You had couple of nights you had games on, which again, I, I don't,

00:39:03.94
Mike
Yeah.

00:39:06.58
Mike
ti Tis the time of year, man. Yeah, you know, if there's a game on when I get home, I'm putting it on.

00:39:12.47
Bill
yeah and And I mean, quite honestly, it's it's not that i I don't, I don't way at one way or the other. I, when I walk into a room and a baseball game's on, I'm like, Oh fuck. God damn baseball game. um But I'm not like, Ooh, cool.

00:39:24.03
Bill
Baseball game. But it's, you know, every once in a while and you and I were sitting there watching it.

00:39:25.29
Mike
Right.

00:39:28.63
Bill
I didn't, I, since the last time I sat down with you to watch a baseball game, probably a year ago, um they it having the, literally the, the ah superimposed strike zone, like right there, I'm like,

00:39:32.16
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:39:41.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:39:41.79
Bill
Well, that's kind of fucking cool.

00:39:43.99
Mike
Yeah.

00:39:45.06
Bill
You know, we were talking about like the football games and everything and all the stats up on the screens that, you know, when they first came up, it drove me fucking nuts.

00:39:49.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:39:52.05
Bill
But I mean, I couldn't, I could imagine watching any sporting event now and not having that. like, what the fuck's going on? What down is it? Where is it? How much time is left? What's the play clock at?

00:40:00.17
Mike
Right. Right.

00:40:02.24
Bill
What's the, what's the, you know, the, the strike count.

00:40:03.67
Mike
where the Yeah, the first down.

00:40:04.16
Bill
Yeah.

00:40:05.81
Mike
Yeah, marker.

00:40:06.52
Bill
yeah

00:40:06.61
Mike
Right, exactly.

00:40:07.05
Bill
Yeah. Well, the same thing in baseball games, they had all that shit on there. How fast was that ball?

00:40:10.92
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:40:11.83
Bill
How close was it?

00:40:12.89
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:40:14.39
Bill
You know, it just, but yeah, I mean, I, I know, I know things like that. And that ah there's probably more. And like I said, it wasn't after I read the question, like, yeah, that sounded like I was calling you grumpy fuck. And I really wasn't.

00:40:23.52
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:40:24.78
Bill
So, but yeah, you're right.

00:40:25.10
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:40:28.12
Bill
Sometimes, you know, honestly, um sometimes having fucking nothing to do

00:40:32.89
Mike
see

00:40:33.21
Bill
Um, and, and not, um, I don't know just sitting there. So I, I watch a lot of, um, you know like, uh, TV series and things like that. And I'll sit down at night and watch.

00:40:43.64
Bill
There's always some his story, you know, that I'm watching because it's, uh, it is, it's fucking mindless.

00:40:46.50
Mike
Right. Mm hmm.

00:40:49.99
Bill
You know, i sit down and relax. I eat whatever ice cream I have and do whatever. But there every once in a while, I'll sit there and I'll watch a full movie. I'll usually make it like on a Saturday night or something like that when I've got nothing else to do.

00:41:01.16
Mike
right

00:41:02.71
Bill
And it's ah literally at those times that I do. I put my phone aside. I do whatever. And I don't fuck around with stuff. um I just sit there and I pay attention and just to get engulfed in a movie, you know, and I don't do it that often. But when I do, um I don't know if i it's enjoyable.

00:41:18.87
Mike
Right.

00:41:19.00
Bill
You know, the word joy is in that word.

00:41:21.02
Mike
Sure.

00:41:22.35
Bill
um You know, hey obviously we we know the hiking and all that shit. I've talked about all that stuff. I enjoy doing all that stuff. But um same thing, you know, getting together with people. Playing cards is great. Getting together with my kids. um

00:41:32.53
Mike
hmm.

00:41:32.97
Bill
I don't know. But sometimes you're right. Just sitting on your ass doing nothing is, that's extremely joyful.

00:41:36.38
Mike
Mm hmm. Yes.

00:41:40.28
Bill
Very joyful.

00:41:41.83
Mike
Right.

00:41:42.11
Bill
All right. um One other one other quick thing, and then we'll obviously take a break here. So God Grant Me was talking about this had have been recently, I believe, um pride versus false pride.

00:41:53.80
Bill
I I don't I don't remember if we've talked about this before, but and we have

00:41:58.00
Mike
We have. Yeah.

00:42:00.66
Bill
um

00:42:00.89
Mike
I think we probably did the reading like it probably like a year ago or so, but yeah.

00:42:06.29
Bill
Okay. So and my question was, and I suppose if I forgot, maybe somebody else did, what do you think the difference is between, um you know, just pride and and false pride?

00:42:10.87
Mike
Yep.

00:42:15.41
Bill
Because i it it sounded familiar in my head, but I couldn't remember if we talked about it.

00:42:18.88
Mike
Mm hmm. Right. Well, I mean, you false pride being, you know, taking credit for things you haven't done, um you know, like sobriety. um

00:42:28.66
Bill
but

00:42:30.46
Mike
Right. And pride, you know, um being, yes, being proud of of things that you've actually accomplished. And, you know, I mean. I'm proud of, you know, the being able to help someone else.

00:42:43.96
Mike
That's cool.

00:42:44.08
Bill
Right.

00:42:44.68
Mike
i'm I'm proud when I get to do that. um There's nothing false about that at all. You know, saying, know, aren't I fucking wonderful? That's kind of false because I'm not.

00:42:53.97
Bill
hey Right.

00:42:57.51
Mike
um Yeah, you know, right. I mean, there's nothing wrong with pride, but yes, false pride is insane. Yeah. Yeah, it's what we used to do.

00:43:05.67
Bill
Right.

00:43:05.67
Mike
We used to be proud of shit that we didn't have anything to do with. You know, aren't I goddamn great? I'm God's gift to the fucking world.

00:43:15.05
Bill
Yeah, that egotistical, hey, look at me.

00:43:17.10
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:43:17.98
Bill
Look what look what I did when, you know, again, yeah either you didn't do anything or ah what you did is nothing to be proud of, but you're, you know, yeah, walking around like you're king shit or like you just said, yeah, God's gift to...

00:43:18.58
Mike
Right.

00:43:25.35
Mike
Right. Right.

00:43:30.42
Mike
ah this

00:43:30.67
Bill
whatever about or whoever about whatever so yeah yeah i couldn't it probably was we probably did that reading whether it was you know a year ago and because some of these things and and as these readings come up and and it could easily be to your point is that um we you did the reading on here and we talked you know either deeply or extensively or whatever words we want to attach to it

00:43:36.16
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:43:46.49
Mike
Right.

00:43:49.55
Mike
i but Yeah. I'm pretty sure we did.

00:43:53.37
Bill
All right. Okay. So um that was quick. I, you know, again, I said, Hey, real quick before we take a break. So what do you think there, Mr.

00:43:58.82
Mike
Right.

00:44:00.19
Bill
Mikey?

00:44:02.14
Mike
I think we'll be right back with more of this special Wednesday episode right after these words from our sponsors.

00:44:19.15
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome back. Yeah, it is. Special Wednesday night edition of this fucking thing. Oh, by the way, how many fucks last week? What do you think?

00:44:28.76
Mike
ah and I don't know. I don't remember.

00:44:34.97
Bill
was dismal. It was dismal.

00:44:36.19
Mike
Probably.

00:44:36.49
Bill
154. one fifty four

00:44:39.11
Mike
oh that's not bad.

00:44:41.47
Bill
Well, I mean, compared that we've been, we've been like, you know, cracking the 200 mark on a semi-regular basis, but no, it's not, it's not, isn't that, isn't that funny that I looked at one 154 and I'm like, listen yeah, that's okay.

00:44:47.48
Mike
Right.

00:44:53.59
Mike
yeah We could do better.

00:44:54.43
Bill
yeah

00:44:57.99
Bill
Where the fuck are my priorities? Speaking of false pride, is it Mike, is that a good example of false pride?

00:45:03.97
Mike
Yes, i believe it would be.

00:45:07.57
Bill
yeah So ladies and gentlemen, just stick around for a couple of minutes and we'll give you a real example of false pride.

00:45:12.94
Mike
Mm hmm. Mm

00:45:13.83
Bill
So this came across my mind only because I'm getting um getting memories of this that are coming up on Facebook and that sort of thing. So um kind of mind-blowing to me that, I mean, basically the ah the start of the pandemic was like five years ago, which...

00:45:20.98
Mike
hmm.

00:45:28.25
Mike
Right.

00:45:28.53
Bill
Um, again, mind blowing to me, but what, what made me think about it is just seeing some of these pictures and whatever. And I remember it is, uh, everything started to, you know, slowly shut down, you know, obviously February word word was out then March.

00:45:41.10
Bill
And then clearly by, by this time, you know, all the shit was, you know, hittting the fan.

00:45:43.33
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:45:45.19
Bill
Um, so just as a, as a reminder, cause I know we've talked about this, but I'm sure that, um, maybe other people haven't heard it or just as a little trip down memory lane, how did you feel, um from like a sobriety standpoint and, and a program standpoint where whatever the the meetings and all that stuff chart started shutting down?

00:46:05.57
Bill
um

00:46:05.73
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:46:06.46
Bill
how did you feel from a sobriety standpoint? I don't know Am I making sense with that? that Did that, um,

00:46:10.33
Mike
Yeah.

00:46:11.73
Bill
Because I know you i know you love thee the isolation part of it.

00:46:11.74
Mike
Right.

00:46:14.34
Bill
I know you didn't have a problem with.

00:46:14.60
Mike
Oh yeah, it was fucking wonderful. Um, what do you mean I can't go anywhere? Good. I don't want to, I can't, right.

00:46:24.35
Bill
I'd love to hang out with you.

00:46:26.40
Mike
yeah Gee, if it wasn't for this worldwide pandemic, um, I'd be right over.

00:46:33.46
Bill
Right.

00:46:33.81
Mike
Um, um, yeah, well, I mean, you know, I hated that the meetings were were being shut down. um

00:46:41.11
Bill
Right.

00:46:42.56
Mike
You know, i've speaking of, you know, we're going to to Washington, D.C. this weekend. And yeah, right. That's ah kind of a First Amendment, you know, right to assemble.

00:46:55.53
Mike
It's right in there, right in the old Constitution. We have a right to free assembly.

00:47:00.89
Bill
Right.

00:47:00.93
Mike
And no, apparently we don't.

00:47:06.96
Mike
No, you cannot gather. Fuck you. um So, yeah, I was not happy about that. um But, you know, whatever. what are you going to do? um We adapted.

00:47:16.65
Bill
Right.

00:47:18.06
Mike
you know, we started this, you know, Zoom became a thing. And, yeah, we started, you know, gathering how we could. And, um, well, know, I mean, thankfully, you know, yeah, we were 10 years into this thing. So it wasn't like, Oh God, I've got to go to a meeting. I've got to be around other people.

00:47:38.00
Mike
You know, I, we knew what to do.

00:47:38.04
Bill
right

00:47:40.59
Mike
um so we did it, but, um, yeah, you know, I mean, ah again, we're, we've talked about it on here. We're amazed at the people that actually got sober in that time and people did.

00:47:52.83
Bill
Right.

00:47:53.56
Mike
um

00:47:53.63
Bill
Right.

00:47:54.31
Mike
Well, and and people ha used it as an excuse to not be sober.

00:48:00.23
Bill
Right.

00:48:00.23
Mike
Saw a lot of that, too. um my Well, we didn't. We went, okay, well, so can't go to a meeting, um but I can still do what I need to do, do my inside job stuff, and did.

00:48:14.52
Bill
Right.

00:48:14.69
Mike
So, yeah, well, I mean, yeah, it sucked that the meetings got shut down, but we adapted and we still connected with each other as best we could and got through it.

00:48:27.30
Bill
And just as ah as a reminder, I mean, you were, as a as a truck driver, deemed an essential worker, so you you worked the entire time.

00:48:33.03
Mike
Yes, I was. I did.

00:48:35.60
Bill
yeah

00:48:35.84
Mike
Yeah. but And the motherfuckers were off the road, so I didn't have to deal with them. It was great.

00:48:42.10
Bill
Yeah, that was, um I mean, at the time that, um because I was in between my my gigs at that time. So I had come off of when when all this stuff started coming about in the the last time, I remember the last time, I remember what day it was.

00:48:50.39
Mike
Yeah.

00:48:58.62
Bill
um I think I remember what day it was. ah There was like March, I don't know, nineteenth or 20th of 2020, think was the

00:49:05.34
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:49:06.69
Bill
twenty i think was the

00:49:07.69
Mike
It's right after St. Patrick's Day.

00:49:09.89
Bill
Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, that's what it was. Yeah, because they um they shut down. um All the bars and stuff were shut down like the day before St. Patrick's Day, at least in Milwaukee. remember that.

00:49:19.96
Mike
Right.

00:49:20.29
Bill
Because people, they stopped people from

00:49:22.19
Mike
You know there's a problem if they're shutting the bars down in Wisconsin.

00:49:25.15
Bill
Oh, yeah. it And of course, i mean, people were fucking pissed because, you know, it's like Wisconsin is no different than St.

00:49:28.72
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:49:32.31
Bill
Patrick's Day. Cleveland's got the big thing downtown. And so it does Milwaukee and lots of Irish bars, even downtown Milwaukee, blah, blah, blah.

00:49:34.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:49:38.53
Bill
But so it have been kind of might actually been March like 14th or 15th, maybe the the last time I Ubered.

00:49:43.31
Mike
Yeah.

00:49:45.18
Bill
Um, because I started getting, I'm like, you know, somebody has whatever this thing is, I'm picking people up from the fucking airport and all this different stuff.

00:49:50.11
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:49:52.77
Bill
And I'm like, I'm fucking done.

00:49:52.82
Mike
Yeah.

00:49:54.44
Bill
And then I did Instacart for a little while. So, and I did Instacart, um, you know, through the, through the beginning from March until I went back to work in June, you know,

00:50:04.86
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:50:05.57
Bill
And ah because I was with Instacart, I mean, when they had the grocery stores, you know, not shut down, but like one door and whatever, I could go in and fucking wave my Instacart badge and they'd let me in, you know, ahead of all the people like, why does he get to go in?

00:50:12.26
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:50:14.81
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:50:18.93
Bill
And I'm like, Instacart, hey. yeah

00:50:20.61
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:50:22.48
Bill
um but then But then I started working at that, you know, collection agency downtown and fuck, we worked every goddamn day, you know, so.

00:50:28.76
Mike
Great.

00:50:28.86
Bill
um But, but yeah, when the, when the meetings and stuff, and I remember again, I was secretary in the one in Mequon. And again, as it as it got close, it was coming up to a Saturday meeting like that.

00:50:39.93
Bill
they were talking about some, the meetings had not completely shut down yet, but.

00:50:43.18
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:50:43.86
Bill
We, we, I think we were all talks again, like, ah or talking in a text thread or something like that. And people are like, you know, is everyone going to show up? What are you doing? And i I finally said, I'm like, you know what? I said, I'm going to bow out if anyone wants to, wants to fill in.

00:50:54.77
Mike
he

00:50:55.78
Bill
Cause at that point too, I'm thinking still, you know, we, we were all kind of eyeballing stuff with mom too.

00:51:01.01
Mike
Right.

00:51:01.32
Bill
I'm like, I didn't know that the, you know, the entire world was going to get shut down. But I'm like, I can't really afford to get sick. You know, i can't be around her, blah, blah, blah.

00:51:08.83
Mike
ah

00:51:09.37
Bill
So that was in the mindset. So, yes, then I stopped going to the meeting and then they Zoomed that for a little bit. and then I know Puritas came up on Zoom, Gordon Square, because I would do, that was my Friday meeting then.

00:51:16.97
Mike
Right.

00:51:20.32
Bill
I did Gordon Square.

00:51:20.48
Mike
Right.

00:51:22.23
Bill
and then it got down to it with Puritas where I was ah the only one that was on Zoom. And finally, Sean just shut it down.

00:51:27.18
Mike
you

00:51:27.95
Bill
And I showed up one night.

00:51:28.11
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:51:29.53
Bill
I'm like, there's fucking no one here. No one here. And I think I texted you and you're like, you're like yeah, we're not doing it anymore. like, Fuck!

00:51:36.12
Mike
Right. Yeah, because we had opened back up, so we were doing it in person.

00:51:38.52
Bill
Right.

00:51:39.28
Mike
And, yeah, we kept the Zoom going for a while, but it was like, well, fuck. Yeah, you were. You're you the only person that was logging in and watching it. So, yeah.

00:51:47.56
Bill
Right.

00:51:48.77
Mike
Sorry, bud.

00:51:50.27
Bill
No, here it was, it was fine. Again, to to your point, and, and we've talked about this. I know you and I, and I think we talked about it on here. It's still looking back. um Speaking of real pride, um see how this goes back unintentionally.

00:52:03.82
Bill
um

00:52:04.10
Mike
Right.

00:52:05.15
Bill
I am proud of read the recovery community as a whole for how well the recovery community adapted, you know? um Again, with the Zoom meetings, with giving options, with all these different things that happened.

00:52:17.43
Bill
and And it opened up with all said done. So now, you know, five years later, know for a fact, if I, you know, when we're done recording here, if i if I want to attend a meeting, I could go online and I can attend a meeting.

00:52:29.15
Mike
right

00:52:29.43
Bill
um I'm going to be able to find a meeting at whatever time I get done right now. And, you know, that's one of the good things I think that came out of the pandemic is it put people, you know, kind of put people online like that.

00:52:40.35
Bill
And, you know, people just are like, hey, we can do this all the time.

00:52:40.76
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:52:42.79
Bill
This is great.

00:52:43.44
Mike
Right.

00:52:43.92
Bill
um

00:52:44.07
Mike
Yeah.

00:52:45.17
Bill
it It opened up the remote working environment. So, I mean, I benefited from it ultimately.

00:52:48.20
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:52:50.15
Bill
Um, my understanding is that, uh, are the company I work for, um, that's when they went remote granted, obviously, cause they had to, you know, during the pandemic.

00:52:57.68
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:52:58.73
Bill
And then they just realized, you're like, you know, what, what's the point? We don't have to bring everyone back. Um, we can open up their hiring practices. They can hire people all over the country now.

00:53:07.16
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:53:07.23
Bill
Um, you know, and it just turned out to be a good business decision, but, um, I was just seriously, I was really proud of the, um, not only, you know, just the community in general, but you know, the meetings that we were involved in the people that we knew, um everyone's saying, Hey, check out this Facebook group, check out this meeting over here.

00:53:19.48
Mike
Right.

00:53:24.15
Bill
um everyone just in, in like, to your exact point, we, we have been around long enough, had a little bit of a base, obviously, you know, I'll say a little bit because it was, you know, it's 10 years.

00:53:24.23
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:53:31.91
Mike
Right. Yeah, right.

00:53:34.59
Bill
Yeah. And it was just like, okay, yeah, so I can't, I can't sit in a fucking church basement right now, but I, I know what I need to do to stay sober, you know?

00:53:41.91
Mike
Mm hmm. Right.

00:53:45.11
Bill
So, but, um, yeah, speaking of that, and surely if you're listening, this is going be a conversation for you because if I remember correctly, let's see if I remember January ninth I think January of 2020, I believe is her, her sobriety date.

00:53:51.47
Mike
Hmm. Ah.

00:53:58.05
Mike
All

00:53:58.84
Bill
So, um, cause she said that one of her emails that she's, uh, you know, as she put it a pandemic baby,

00:54:04.25
Mike
right.

00:54:04.35
Bill
Um, which again, you just said it, you know, I see people that, uh, I don't know, it was a fellowship and it was the, the, I, I needed to be sitting in a room with a bunch of, you know, fucking drunks and in order to do what I, what I needed to do.

00:54:13.83
Mike
Mm hmm. All right.

00:54:17.21
Bill
But, um, who knows? I, I back to, I don't know what I don't know.

00:54:19.23
Mike
Hmm.

00:54:20.95
Bill
I'm sure I could have, you know.

00:54:22.68
Mike
Oh, yeah. Right. Yeah. Can do anything. is Right.

00:54:28.30
Bill
Right. I just think that that so so much of you know me sticking around was that um I had to. you know I had i no place to go.

00:54:35.72
Mike
Yeah.

00:54:36.83
Bill
I was in a, and I know that the Keating Center stayed open and people kept going in there. I'm sure there was a lot of different restrictions and all those sort of things.

00:54:40.85
Mike
Mm hmm. Sure.

00:54:43.50
Bill
But um yeah, it would have been a whole different time. But I don't know. I mean, it just, I was just, you know wondering from your standpoint that, you know, how you felt, but, you know, that was a good point.

00:54:54.47
Bill
I think you and I were more pissed. You remember we were planning on trying to get all the, all the guys who were still sober together that, that summer.

00:54:59.78
Mike
Right, yeah.

00:55:01.33
Bill
I was like, like, we're going to have a big old 10 year thing.

00:55:01.54
Mike
Yeah.

00:55:03.61
Bill
I set up a Facebook page. I had the whole thing.

00:55:05.51
Mike
Right.

00:55:06.83
Bill
were just like about to, I don't know if you want to say launch quote unquote, you know, start reaching out to everyone and like, Well, well, what do you mean the fucking world shutting down? Does it, does anyone realize it's 10 years for us?

00:55:18.23
Bill
What fuck's your problem, man?

00:55:18.62
Mike
Right.

00:55:21.44
Mike
yeah

00:55:22.20
Bill
It's all about us,

00:55:22.31
Mike
yeah i know

00:55:23.61
Bill
yeah but it's okay. Maybe we'll do something for our 50th. Oh no. 20th, 17th.

00:55:32.17
Bill
yeah We'll do some at some point. That's all.

00:55:34.55
Mike
Yes.

00:55:36.51
Bill
Um, God, this is so stupid. I, uh, Where did I write?

00:55:43.52
Bill
So i I just went back

00:55:44.36
Mike
You just encapsulated at the podcast. This is so stupid.

00:55:46.89
Bill
Yeah, this is so stupid. I should add that to the beginning of our thing now.

00:55:50.78
Mike
Yes. Right.

00:55:51.77
Bill
this is This is so stupid. So the God grant me thing talking about pride versus fall false pride, right? So right above one of the other notes I just made that I read off, keep it simple.

00:55:57.84
Mike
Right.

00:56:01.35
Bill
What is good pride? I'm like, what the fuck, man? I don't remember what I wrote the other, Jesus Christ.

00:56:04.74
Mike
who

00:56:06.50
Bill
Let's, pardon me while I cross that one off because I think we think we've talked about that one, right?

00:56:07.92
Mike
Mmm. Uh-huh.

00:56:12.43
Bill
Yeah. All right. um So God grant me back to the God grant me. It was talking about making a plan for the next time we wake up in a negative mood.

00:56:23.78
Bill
OK, so before you groan,

00:56:24.49
Mike
Mmm. Yes.

00:56:26.87
Bill
um i don't necessarily think this is my this is my commentary.

00:56:31.75
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:56:31.95
Bill
I don't necessarily think that either one of us make a plan, um but I don't know. I mean, just maybe for anyone out there, how do you handle yourself? Because there's a lot of people out there that I, I'm not saying we're not even, I know we're not unique. We're not different. I think we've just been around long enough to understand how to deal with some of this shit.

00:56:49.33
Mike
Sure.

00:56:49.54
Bill
Um, but how do you handle if you do wake up, um, like right away in the morning, you're kind of in a fucked up mood, um, or just having a bad moment, like first thing in the morning, what do, what do you do?

00:56:58.96
Mike
Right.

00:57:01.83
Mike
you know, I, I kind of don't much, um, anymore. Like not really at all. Um, you know, the bad moods tend to come like after the shit's been being piled on me all day.

00:57:15.50
Mike
of no, first thing in the morning, I'm usually like, yeah, know, mean, whatever. I'm not thrilled that I'm, you know, my alarm went off and I got to get up and go do whatever I got to go do. But,

00:57:27.45
Bill
yeah

00:57:27.95
Mike
um Well, you know, I mean, again, you know, say my little please prayer and grab my meditation books. And yeah, you know, that's, yeah ja I mean, i I remember, but that was, you know, kind of being hung over. um That didn't help.

00:57:44.07
Bill
but

00:57:44.73
Mike
ah

00:57:44.79
Bill
right

00:57:47.10
Mike
um Yeah, I don't really wake up in a bad mood anymore. I mean, again, I'm not, you know, leaping out of bed all happy, joyous, and free or anything, but um wow I don't know.

00:57:58.26
Mike
Shit mood to start today? No. It's usually towards the end of the day after, like I said, it's it's been piling on me all day, and I'm like, fuck this shit. um And then, again, I know what to do. you Lock myself away and you know run a little gratitude list and yeah shit ain't that bad, asshole.

00:58:20.35
Mike
Move on.

00:58:21.43
Bill
Right.

00:58:21.94
Mike
Yeah, that's kind of it. Yeah.

00:58:24.96
Bill
Yeah. And you know, when, uh, I mean, honestly, I, I, I have to say that, uh, like ditto, I, I almost don't, I don't, I know how to add to that, but, uh, I'm, I'm kind of the same way.

00:58:31.02
Mike
Right.

00:58:35.49
Bill
It's usually it is the other way around it. Cause I, I've said this before that if I'm having, um, you know, throughout the day, if I'm, if I'm in a mood for some reason, I can't figure it out.

00:58:43.51
Mike
he

00:58:44.61
Bill
I mean, it's sometimes like I said, I've been, why, why am I in such a good mood? What the fuck? You know, I think about it the other way around and like quit doing that part. But the bad mood part, if I'm or just if I'm in not even a bad mood, it's kind of I'll feel kind of like in a funk, you know, but I won't know why.

00:58:58.96
Mike
right

00:59:00.86
Bill
But and then usually it's up'll I'll ride with it. I'll try to figure it out. then the end of the day i'm like, I'm just fucking I'm going to bed, you know, and it's it is it's like almost hit the reset button or restarting your computer.

00:59:06.98
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:59:10.86
Bill
And when I wake up in the morning, um I usually same thing, you know, it's maybe I'm like, oh, fuck, my back hurts. God. damn it. I'm fucking tired. the Typical things, you know, but I don't wake up and like you said, getting up going, I'm going to go do whatever the fuck I got to do.

00:59:21.31
Mike
Right.

00:59:27.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:59:28.01
Bill
Um, but yeah, I, I guess I can't, I can't remember last time I woke up in a good mood, but yeah, it is. It's a, it, it tends to be, um, built over, over the day.

00:59:37.75
Mike
Yeah, exactly. Right.

00:59:39.78
Bill
Yeah.

00:59:40.14
Mike
Yeah. I mean, you know, right. I mean, I don't wake up in a wonderful mood generally. um And I don't wake up in a bad mood generally. It's just kind of, you know, okay, here we go.

00:59:51.51
Bill
Right.

00:59:52.37
Mike
Off to do it again.

00:59:54.13
Bill
Yeah.

00:59:54.17
Mike
Yeah. And, you know, and again, real roll those good thoughts around my head and, and you know, get it going.

00:59:55.03
Bill
Well, you've.

01:00:00.33
Mike
Yeah.

01:00:00.45
Bill
Right.

01:00:01.12
Mike
Yeah.

01:00:02.20
Bill
Well, you said you said that before that the no highs, no lows stay right in the middle.

01:00:06.94
Mike
Right.

01:00:07.24
Bill
Right. Is that the way is that the way you say it or put it?

01:00:09.01
Mike
That's the way I like it.

01:00:10.71
Bill
Right.

01:00:11.58
Mike
Yeah.

01:00:11.78
Bill
Yeah. Not too high, not too low. Just kind of, you know, easing, easing in the middle. And that's ah that's a place that is the place to be.

01:00:16.62
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:00:18.02
Bill
Right.

01:00:18.66
Mike
Absolutely.

01:00:20.23
Bill
But yeah, and I think that's, I mean, quite honestly, and you hit you hit another another thing right there with the readings and everything like that. um Even if, you know, it's just one of those one of those typical things, you know, i wake up and my fucking knee hurts or my back hurts or I'm fucking tired.

01:00:34.25
Bill
I mean, if I just did nothing and I just kind of went on with my day, um i i my day would just, I think my day would not maybe be shitty, but it wouldn't be wonderful, you know?

01:00:38.51
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:00:45.34
Mike
That wouldn't be as good, right?

01:00:46.86
Bill
Right. And you just, you just said it roll around those good thoughts in my head.

01:00:47.50
Mike
Yeah.

01:00:50.30
Bill
I love doing the readings and that, that whole, that whole time in the morning. I love that.

01:00:56.47
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:00:57.00
Bill
I really do. You know, and um it's, it's quiet time.

01:00:57.75
Mike
Yeah.

01:00:59.71
Bill
It's time to myself. It is, it's time to, you know, put somebody else's good thoughts and in our heads and let them roll around and, ah But the other thing too is it it allows me, I'm always picking a reading for you know to post on Instagram.

01:01:11.81
Bill
I'm always looking for things like this that we can talk about.

01:01:12.38
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:01:15.30
Bill
um So it's it's it's for me, but it's also I'm thinking of things for other people at that time frame, which I that just kind of, I don't know, I guess I didn't really focus on that before.

01:01:19.70
Mike
Right.

01:01:23.58
Bill
I mean, I knew I was doing that, but um I wonder if that's part of it that that that's you know good for me is the fact that I'm actually doing something or thinking about something for other people while I'm doing shit for myself.

01:01:32.39
Mike
Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah.

01:01:34.91
Bill
Hmm.

01:01:35.20
Mike
Huge part of it.

01:01:36.76
Bill
Well, look at, is that, is that false pride?

01:01:36.76
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:01:39.84
Bill
or Is that real pride? I'm patting myself on the back right now.

01:01:40.92
Mike
yeah

01:01:42.24
Bill
Let me get the other side. Oh, there we go. Okay. That would be false pride. Just realizing I did it. I'm kind of proud.

01:01:49.36
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:01:49.42
Bill
I'm proud of the fact that I do it. I'm not proud of myself.

01:01:52.19
Mike
Right.

01:01:52.52
Bill
I'm, ah I'm happy with the fact that I'm able to do that. Let's put it that way.

01:01:55.51
Mike
Right. Yeah, exactly. It's not all about us, which is nice.

01:02:00.36
Bill
Ever. It's never, ever. And it is always nice. Always nice. All right. So this is from a long, long time ago. Shit, this might even be from a year ago. um i'm I'm just guessing here that you have no care in the world for the musician by the name of Jewel, right?

01:02:18.59
Mike
um ah Yeah, right. Mm-hmm.

01:02:23.10
Bill
Again, I figured that. But um and I don't remember, this easily might have been a year ago, Mark Merritt interviewed her. And she's got an interesting story, blah, blah. It's nothing that I don't think you'd be interested in. I thought it was interesting just in general, the way that she became, you know, through life and whatever. Just, again, interesting conversation. I like him as an interview anyhow, regardless.

01:02:44.90
Bill
But she said something that I thought was kind of interesting that I've had written down for a while and i keep forgetting to talk about it. But she said, was talking about some story about something. And then she said, if she was ever distracted by something or hurt by something um or really focused on something, is basically talking about like a negative thing.

01:03:03.71
Bill
And that's kind of what, as we were talking about that, it popped into my head that she said this, she said, do something louder to replace that.

01:03:06.71
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:03:11.93
Mike
Hmm.

01:03:12.62
Bill
Does that make sense?

01:03:13.80
Mike
Yeah.

01:03:14.61
Bill
Okay. And, and as I'm thinking about this, that, I mean, I don't necessarily think she was talking about true volume, you know, um but she was, if I remember correctly, she said, you know, sometimes, Hey, you know, I go, I go practice or I do whatever, and I play something loud, or maybe it's music.

01:03:21.17
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:03:29.03
Bill
Maybe it's who knows, maybe go in a room by myself and scream, said whatever the case was.

01:03:33.53
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:03:34.75
Bill
um You know, but she was saying to just do something that, that is, you know, obviously going to be louder in a sense, maybe a louder positive thing, which,

01:03:41.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:03:43.91
Mike
Sure.

01:03:44.85
Bill
maybe that maybe our readings outweigh anything like that. Is that a louder activity?

01:03:48.72
Mike
Yeah. Absolutely. Drowned out the negativity with positivity. Yeah.

01:03:54.10
Bill
Yeah.

01:03:54.33
Mike
Makes total sense.

01:03:54.57
Bill
Yeah. Which, and like I said, the the other part of the interview, I don't think you would have cared for one way or the other.

01:04:00.11
Mike
Probably not.

01:04:01.25
Bill
Once again, I thought it was interesting, but there was just that line and I kept, ah I kept forgetting to bring that up.

01:04:06.81
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:04:07.16
Bill
Hang on one second. There was one other thing that I was, oh, yeah, yeah. So looking back, um this is just a thought I had. Looking back during your drinking days, Mike.

01:04:18.42
Mike
e

01:04:19.53
Bill
What was the best time that you ever had drinking that you look back now and realize that you could have easily died? You're like, that that was fucking fun, but...

01:04:27.24
Mike
Right. Right.

01:04:31.92
Mike
Right. ah

01:04:34.84
Bill
Does it have to be just one? No, there could be more than one.

01:04:36.58
Mike
right

01:04:37.46
Bill
yeah

01:04:39.79
Mike
um and um Yeah, i I don't know. um Yeah, I mean, clearly, plenty. um hello I don't know.

01:04:52.04
Mike
Fun that I could have died.

01:04:55.93
Mike
mean, plenty times I could have died and it wasn't all that much fun. mean,

01:05:01.00
Bill
I don't know. I go for one of those stories. I don't care. Tell me tell me a story, Mike.

01:05:04.21
Mike
I... mean i just um i um

01:05:09.99
Bill
and You don't have to. I don't know

01:05:11.28
Mike
Yeah, i'm nothing nothing nothing's coming to mind, really.

01:05:11.72
Bill
i don't know why

01:05:15.15
Bill
if yeah the only The only thing literally that popped into my head when i when I wrote it down, and once again, I try really hard not to think about these things. um you know Obviously, as i'm as I'm writing it down, was my was my DUI. That was a fun fucking day.

01:05:29.07
Bill
It was a really, really fun day.

01:05:29.15
Mike
Yeah.

01:05:30.90
Bill
um But all said and on the way home and hit ah had a sign.

01:05:37.07
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:05:38.51
Bill
And i was on the i was on the freeway from fucking downtown Milwaukee all the way out to Waukesha. um I don't remember you know driving that entire way.

01:05:44.74
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:05:46.59
Bill
um And I mean, easily could have, you know, could have died, could have killed somebody else. I mean, all those sort of things. But um yeah, that was the the only one. And I had zero idea.

01:05:56.84
Bill
There's I have no recollection whatsoever of why that popped into my head.

01:06:01.25
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:06:01.49
Bill
yeah But I'm like, ah bet you Mike has a story or two, which if you if you probably thought about it, maybe you would. But unimportant, probably unimportant.

01:06:07.94
Mike
day Right. Right. Yeah. I mean, ah that's, yeah. I don't know. That kind of borders on, you know, romancing the stone. um And and i don't I don't like to do that.

01:06:18.39
Bill
Yeah, that's that's a good point. That's a good point. That is it that is it i actually that's a very good point. You know, i realized too, after listening to last week's episode, I say that's a good point or a great point a lot.

01:06:31.22
Mike
Hmm. yeah Okay.

01:06:31.84
Bill
So um' i'm trying to I'm trying to not do that and I just did it.

01:06:32.04
Mike
Okay.

01:06:35.73
Bill
So um if i if I don't...

01:06:36.51
Mike
All right. That's a good point.

01:06:39.80
Bill
I don't congratulate you on your good points going forward as it's not nothing bad. It was just, it was a tick.

01:06:44.83
Mike
Right.

01:06:45.63
Bill
It was a tick that I have that I, that if I learned years ago when I was doing training, that if there's, if there's any sort of verbal or a physical tick like that, sooner or later, somebody is going to pick up on it.

01:06:54.73
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

01:06:57.07
Bill
um And if, and if I can pick up on something that I'm doing like that, somebody else might, um you know, so I,

01:07:01.35
Mike
Sure. And then they start focusing on it. and Yes.

01:07:05.62
Bill
It just, it takes away, it takes away from what we're talking about.

01:07:07.04
Mike
Yeah.

01:07:08.48
Bill
Again, not, not that I think what we're talking about is, is, is changing the world, but maybe, maybe somebody wants to listen to it, you know?

01:07:08.69
Mike
Sure. Right. Hmm. Yeah.

01:07:14.04
Mike
right

01:07:16.61
Bill
So next time you say something good, I'm just going to go, Oh, Hmm.

01:07:20.50
Mike
hey

01:07:21.79
Bill
Hmm. Hmm. I'll just, that's my, that's my, um, I don't know, my, my noise to, uh, you know, congratulate you on, on that thing that you just said from now on.

01:07:32.89
Bill
Okay.

01:07:33.11
Mike
All right.

01:07:36.07
Bill
Um, all right. ah Oh, i this is the one I wanted, I kept meaning to ask. Okay, so here we go. Here we go, Mike. um

01:07:43.83
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:07:44.64
Bill
Acting as if. I know we talk about that all the time. And i we I'm sure we probably talked about this before, but ah since it's brought up every once in a while, not just from us, but I hear it another in other areas of of life, just, you know, from non-sober people.

01:07:47.63
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:07:58.82
Bill
But um so for anyone out there that they may not really understand that concept and what it means, ah what What does acting as if mean to you? And I guess as a side note question, how did that help you or how does it still help you?

01:08:11.84
Mike
Still does.

01:08:14.10
Bill
yeah

01:08:16.35
Mike
Right. Acting as if, man. um Yes. Acting as if you're a sober person. Acting as if you give a shit about somebody other than yourself.

01:08:28.02
Mike
um You continue to do that and it's a slow process, but eventually you actually start to become that thing that you're acting like.

01:08:38.67
Mike
you know Acting like you're a good person.

01:08:38.98
Bill
Right.

01:08:41.07
Mike
Acting like, yeah, right. You know, i it's what it is. I mean, again, talked about a million times on here. You know, my thoughts are still all fucked up. They are. They always will be. I understand that. That's okay.

01:08:54.78
Mike
um But I don't act on those thoughts. I act out of, ah you know, the principles and the directions that we're given in this program. And, yeah, I, you know, act like a good boy. And eventually, you do that enough, you sort of become a good boy.

01:09:13.49
Bill
Right.

01:09:13.62
Mike
that's that's That's all it is. Yeah. That's all.

01:09:17.82
Bill
Well, and and you've mentioned too, you know, that that sort of thing is, is the same as building a muscle, right?

01:09:24.07
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:09:24.88
Bill
You know, it's a, it's the practice and it's a repetition.

01:09:24.93
Mike
Yeah.

01:09:27.16
Bill
And yeah, somebody wants to become a, you know, a good baseball player, a good football player.

01:09:27.73
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:09:31.18
Mike
Right.

01:09:31.56
Bill
um You know, somebody starts lifting weights. You can't start lifting the, the maximum amount of weight that you want to hit.

01:09:36.24
Mike
Right.

01:09:36.52
Bill
You know, you got to ease up to it. And, you know, i I said it on here and I was telling somebody the, Oh, Johnny, when, when we were having dinner, when I said, when I first, uh, and you know little over a year ago, the first, the first hiker walk that I took, it was maybe a mile.

01:09:42.97
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:09:47.96
Mike
Right.

01:09:49.45
Bill
And seriously, I thought I was going to fucking die. And that's, that's all that I did that day.

01:09:51.58
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:09:53.01
Bill
I walked for one mile.

01:09:54.81
Mike
Right.

01:09:55.03
Bill
And I thought I was going fucking die, you know, but here's the other thing when, um, you know, as I'm like, I, I know now, cause I haven't done anything, as far as well, last weekend I was kicking around after coming back here and unloading the loading back up from your house to here and this and that and grocery shopping.

01:10:10.77
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:10:11.53
Bill
I walked more last Saturday than I had in probably two weeks, whatever it was.

01:10:16.23
Mike
Right.

01:10:16.45
Bill
Yeah. You know, but so like this weekend, I'm i'm sure I'll get out to, you know, and walk around and do something. um i'm I'm guessing I'll be tired and I can feel it when I haven't been out doing that. Then start, you know, it is now now it's like the first mile in. I'm just, you know, not taking a knee, but I'm doing the whole lean on the knees as I'm walking or lean up against the tree or just hands on the hips going. and

01:10:39.78
Bill
um just going to sit here and take a drink of water and ah catch catch my breath a little bit. But yeah, same thing. So the, um and I know that, well, I guess I didn't know. I was acting as if for a number of months, you know, when I, when I first got sober, I was, I was being, I was going to meetings.

01:10:56.36
Bill
I was following direction.

01:10:57.14
Mike
right.

01:10:57.16
Bill
I was doing all these different things.

01:10:57.74
Mike
right right

01:10:58.87
Bill
And it was um and not that I didn't learn anything, but there was still that, you know, that I still had to become, you know, a person in recovery or a person who wanted to be sober.

01:11:05.21
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:11:08.41
Bill
um And that happened after. you know, about nine months, you know, but I don't know.

01:11:10.83
Mike
Right.

01:11:12.96
Bill
It's just, I hear it brought up so much. ah It's probably on other sober podcasts, but I've heard it on, um you know, just in general, you know, people talk about acting, acting as if it's a, you know, it's it's a term that people use on a regular basis in different areas of, of the world other than, other than recovery, you know?

01:11:20.31
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:11:29.16
Mike
Sure. Yeah. Right. I mean, but that's, that's kind of it, man. You know, fake it till you make it that thing too.

01:11:36.21
Bill
Right.

01:11:36.27
Mike
You know, i yeah exactly. Act like a good person. And eventually you're going to become one because all of your actions are good actions and you know, shit, you know, and then you start reaping the, the rewards, the benefits of it.

01:11:36.35
Bill
Right.

01:11:50.52
Mike
You know, you start feeling decent about yourself because you're not a piece of shit.

01:11:56.25
Bill
a

01:11:56.40
Mike
you're not acting like a piece of shit anyway. You know, inside you're still a piece of shit and that's fine. um But you're not acting like a piece of shit. And that's the important part.

01:12:05.85
Bill
Right.

01:12:07.39
Mike
Yeah. and and eventually You know, know, right. ah Eventually then your, your thoughts, you know, ah like Joe used to say, you know, um recovery is kind of the opposite of psychology, right? You know, psychologists want to change the way you think. So you act differently.

01:12:22.51
Mike
it doesn't work for a drunk like me. I need to change the way I act so that I think differently.

01:12:28.48
Bill
Right.

01:12:29.18
Mike
Yeah.

01:12:29.93
Bill
Yeah. And it is. I mean, it's a, it's a weird fucking concept when you, when you think about it, but it's, but it's not, it's so goddamn. Can it be that simple? Can it be, can it be that goddamn simple?

01:12:38.52
Mike
It can be. Yes.

01:12:43.37
Mike
Yes.

01:12:43.39
Bill
Um, But yeah, it is. It's, uh, and I remember he used to say that he used to say that all the time.

01:12:49.23
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:12:49.41
Bill
Um, and it is true, you know, just walk this way and sooner or later it it becomes habit, you know, and the same thing with, with our readings and in the prayers that go into meetings and, um, just again, doing the next right thing, you know, before you know it, you're just doing these things.

01:12:54.33
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:13:01.05
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:13:02.66
Bill
Like we talked about is a couple of weeks ago when we were talking about it's,

01:13:03.30
Mike
Yeah.

01:13:07.74
Bill
Again, recovery is not necessarily easy, but it becomes part of your routine, becomes more routine and easier on a level once you do it for a while, because it's just, this is just ingrained in us.

01:13:12.95
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:13:16.27
Mike
Right.

01:13:19.15
Bill
We're just going to do it.

01:13:19.40
Mike
Yeah.

01:13:19.71
Bill
All these things we're not fixed, you know?

01:13:22.06
Mike
No, but yeah, but you become what you do.

01:13:26.64
Bill
Right.

01:13:26.69
Mike
Yeah.

01:13:26.72
Bill
Right.

01:13:27.28
Mike
Yeah. And it's kind of cool.

01:13:29.51
Bill
Yeah. And i'm I'm guessing, I think we've talked about this before, but I'm guessing if we stop doing these things every day, um nothing's going to happen, right? We're going to be the same and everything will be cool.

01:13:39.71
Mike
Right. Exactly. It'd be fine. I won't revert back to that piece of garbage that I used to be.

01:13:44.80
Bill
Right.

01:13:44.91
Mike
course not. Right.

01:13:46.35
Bill
Has nothing to do with the concept of being on a on a down escalator trying to walk up, right? We're going to be fine.

01:13:51.15
Mike
Right.

01:13:52.01
Bill
We're going to keep going up.

01:13:53.41
Mike
Yes.

01:13:55.29
Bill
Yes. ah Okay. last Last one on here and that I've got, I've got some articles that I want to read from. I don't remember if I ever asked you this again.

01:14:02.09
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:14:03.87
Bill
Same, same thing. No idea where this came from. Doesn't fucking matter. What was your first job ever? First working job, not in sobriety, but your first job ever as a human being.

01:14:11.49
Mike
Right, right. First job ever as a human being.

01:14:13.83
Bill
Yeah.

01:14:15.10
Mike
I was working for a commercial landscaping company that, yeah, we were like, um we would go in, they would like build apartment complexes and we'd go in and do the landscaping.

01:14:27.26
Bill
Right.

01:14:29.50
Mike
So like digging trenches for the sprinkler systems and, you know, yeah, shit like that, planting trees and it was fucking awful.

01:14:32.97
Bill
Huh.

01:14:37.48
Mike
No, of course.

01:14:38.29
Bill
Was it really? i was going to say, well, I was going to say, is a yeah is a young man like that being outside? No, no but it was fucking awful.

01:14:43.59
Mike
No, no, no, no.

01:14:43.79
Bill
Okay.

01:14:44.37
Mike
No, no. Fuck that. 18.

01:14:46.96
Bill
How old were you? Oh, God. Okay. Okay.

01:14:50.76
Mike
Yeah. I didn't start working until I, until I had to. Yeah. Yeah. yeah

01:14:59.55
Bill
Yeah, I started, ah um and I don't remember why I started when I did, but um the the guy that, well, i remember how I got the job. I worked for a lumber yard in Wales where we lived. There was a tornado that went through the area. And, you know, the the dumb kid that I was, I came home from soccer practice. It started to rain, so they canceled, or canceled.

01:15:19.21
Bill
shut soccer practice down early and I'm sitting in the living room, you know, watching fucking TV, probably eating a box of cereal, not a bowl, a box of cereal. Cause that's what I used to do when got home from school, just fucking watching TV and it's storming like a motherfucker out there.

01:15:33.34
Bill
And, um, apparently for, I don't know, however long it was an hour, hour and a half, mom's trying to call because, but the phone lines are down and, you know, so I'm just sitting there fucking oblivious to what's going on.

01:15:44.25
Bill
And literally not more than within, within a mile to two miles from where we were, ah tornado went through Wales and like devastated some shit. I mean, fucked it up, you know?

01:15:52.13
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:15:54.16
Bill
And this, uh, this guy, um his name was Willard Allen. He owned, and Wales was a small town. He owned, and I'm not shitting you, probably 60% of the land in this town.

01:16:03.35
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:16:03.51
Bill
And then became a fucking millionaire on top of itself, selling it all. Golf course came in this and that over time, blah, blah, blah. But he had a farm down the road and this guy and his wife were there like the farm hands there and they both died or no, the wife died.

01:16:17.97
Bill
It's in a mobile home and it blew through and blew through the mobile home and killed her. He lived. But then they had cows there and we were Larry and I came. to the farm we were helping clean up everything. You could see the path that this tornado went through the farm.

01:16:31.84
Mike
Right.

01:16:31.91
Bill
And I mean, fucking spun through cows and fucking cow guts and shit everywhere. was fucking terrible. But I mean, through all that stuff, it ripped up homes and shit, but only one death, ah which was kind of surprising. Um, but because of that, and I was 15 at the time, um Larry found out he was talking to Willard cause you know, everyone loved Willard.

01:16:50.04
Bill
He's this old guy and he's so nice and he's so calm and fucking sweet old man, um that he needed help.

01:16:51.84
Mike
Mm hmm. Mm

01:16:55.80
Bill
I mean, what do you, you know, like a, like a lot hand, uh, in his lumber yard.

01:16:59.06
Mike
hmm.

01:17:00.60
Bill
So, you know, 15 years old, I could ride my bike down there and I went to work for $3 an hour. He's going to pay me cash, you know, so this and that. And I stacked wood. He used to have a burned barrel, all the scrap wood and all the other garbage I'd have to put in. Had to sweep up, obviously, in the store area in there and straighten up this, that, and the other thing, blah, blah, blah. um He was ah miserable fuck to work for, though.

01:17:25.64
Bill
Sweet old Willard. Then he had a farm, me and my buddy Scott and his brother Brian. Did you ever bail hay?

01:17:31.69
Mike
No.

01:17:32.47
Bill
Okay, never. I don't know what you'll get the chance today, but um anyone out there, if you get...

01:17:35.45
Mike
No, I won't. I guarantee i will not get the chance.

01:17:40.10
Bill
yeah

01:17:41.25
Mike
I will not take the chance.

01:17:41.65
Bill
if you

01:17:43.50
Mike
It will not happen.

01:17:43.60
Bill
i I didn't want to then when I was 15 and 16 years old, in really good fucking shape. It was fucking horrible, you know?

01:17:49.57
Mike
Right.

01:17:50.80
Bill
um And then I had to literally... um He wouldn't pay me. i had to fight him for my money all the time.

01:17:56.09
Mike
Hmm.

01:17:56.35
Bill
And i'd be I'd go home and I'd tell mom and then and Larry, and I'm just like like, you know, this and that, I pay him. He tells me to keep track of my hours, but when I ask him to get paid, he gets bad. They're like, oh that's that's not right. Just go talk to him.

01:18:08.10
Mike
he

01:18:08.48
Bill
So you go talk to him. It's like, you young kids, all you can do is have your hands out whenever... I mean, I've been working there for fucking seven weeks.

01:18:14.85
Mike
Right.

01:18:15.62
Bill
It hasn't paid me shit, you know, and then he paid me part of it whenever just tight ass motherfucker.

01:18:17.30
Mike
Hmm.

01:18:21.18
Bill
But um yeah, that was my first job. And it was it it wasn't fun. But I mean, I had i i had some money, but to hit just a miserable fuck.

01:18:26.91
Mike
All right.

01:18:29.71
Bill
But yeah, I know for a fact I never asked you what you did for your first job. So now I now I know stuff.

01:18:34.77
Mike
Nope. That was it. Yeah.

01:18:37.29
Bill
Mike, the landscaper.

01:18:37.51
Mike
yeah Yeah. Right. Didn't last very long. That was... Fuck that shit. I went and got a security guard job where I'd sit in my car and eat sunflower seeds and smoke pot.

01:18:49.30
Bill
Oh, really?

01:18:50.06
Mike
Yep.

01:18:52.28
Bill
ah that sounds that actually say that That sounds like more fun.

01:18:53.00
Mike
That was way more of my speed. Mm-hmm.

01:18:56.46
Bill
That sounds like a lot more fun. All right. So I got a a couple of articles here. So this one, i don't this one seems like one that you might have. Were listening to Alan Cox this week? So I have two articles that, I don't know, this seems like ones that he might have brought up.

01:19:06.44
Mike
Uh, yeah. Yeah.

01:19:10.65
Bill
But okay. So headline starts with ah pa pantless Florida man. Okay.

01:19:17.00
Mike
ah and Allegedly pantless.

01:19:17.88
Bill
um A drunk, imagine that, pantless Florida man has been accused of giving a false name to police. The man who was allegedly, love when they say somebody's allegedly intoxicated.

01:19:33.34
Bill
Yeah. And walking around the parking lot wearing a t-shirt, no pants, identified himself as Charles Dickens. Yeah.

01:19:41.41
Mike
Ah.

01:19:43.09
Bill
When police asked his name, however, officials soon figured out his name was Vincent Conroy. Does it matter? So this is what he's charged with, which I thought was funny. Providing a false name. ah Law enforcement among other charges.

01:19:57.47
Bill
But dumb even though, you know, you just see pick some fucking name out of there. He was charged. I mean, literally, they but they piled on. They say, but they so they they focus on this. providing a false name among other charges.

01:20:10.02
Bill
What about the fact that he didn't have pants on? What about the fact that he was drunk? What about this and that?

01:20:13.81
Mike
Right.

01:20:14.87
Bill
He's in a parking lot. What parking lot is he in? That was it. Literally that story was like one, one paragraph. I'm like a bad reporter. You need more. But I just thought, where did this fucking drunk guy come up with Charles Dickens?

01:20:23.14
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:20:26.64
Bill
But

01:20:26.90
Mike
Right. And it's... Why didn't you use Donald Duck? Since he's walking around without pants.

01:20:32.49
Bill
God damn. Did you, did you use that when you got picked up? What do after you fell? Who are you, Donald Duck?

01:20:38.40
Mike
I'm Donald Duck. Can't you tell?

01:20:42.35
Bill
That's I almost said it. Hmm. Hmm.

01:20:45.75
Mike
Good. All right.

01:20:47.59
Bill
Hmm. I like that, Mike. That's I like it.

01:20:49.95
Mike
good

01:20:51.13
Bill
Let's just leave it at that.

01:20:51.31
Mike
eight

01:20:53.01
Bill
All right. So um next one. Oh, fuck. A redirect notice. I hate these. I save these things that I I make sure I keep it open for a minute when I save these articles to make sure it doesn't get flooded with ads so I don't get fucked when I try to read these.

01:21:07.40
Mike
Of

01:21:08.02
Bill
Then I just popped into it. It gave me a redirect, but I'm i'm there. OK.

01:21:10.78
Mike
course.

01:21:11.77
Bill
So this is, uh, this is actually, um, Akron, Akron, Ohio.

01:21:16.71
Mike
Dateline, Akron.

01:21:19.77
Bill
Literally just about to say that.

01:21:21.99
Mike
yeah

01:21:23.69
Bill
Um, okay. So there was a strange encounter on patrol happened with the officer Austin, blah, blah, blah, conducted a traffic stop on South Arlington Boulevard in Akron.

01:21:33.57
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:21:33.78
Bill
Okay. Okay.

01:21:34.13
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:21:34.97
Bill
Um, opposite Branham identified the driver as 55 year old Victoria, whatever, of Akron during the traffic stop.

01:21:39.77
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:21:41.64
Bill
Um, and or I'm sorry, detained her without incident. But however, things took an unusual turn.

01:21:46.33
Mike
Hmm.

01:21:49.19
Bill
ah

01:21:49.33
Mike
Ah. Dum-dum-dum.

01:21:51.71
Bill
When the officer went back to the car, uh, he saw a raccoon sitting in the driver's seat.

01:21:55.83
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:21:56.82
Bill
Did you hear this?

01:21:57.23
Mike
Yeah.

01:21:57.54
Bill
Oh,

01:21:57.83
Mike
It's all over the internet. Uh-huh.

01:21:59.46
Bill
I figured it was, but I'm going to read this because maybe other people didn't. um As if that wasn't startling enough, the raccoon, whose name was Chewy, why wouldn't it be, um had a meth pipe in his mouth.

01:22:08.19
Mike
Why wouldn't it be?

01:22:11.28
Mike
Yep.

01:22:11.50
Bill
Yes, the raccoon's name is Chewy.

01:22:13.94
Mike
hey

01:22:14.06
Bill
Officers weren't sure how Chewy got a hold of the glass methamphetamine pipe, um but that wasn't the only one. They took that one from him and he grabbed a different one.

01:22:22.07
Mike
Yep. You got to have a spare. Right.

01:22:24.93
Bill
yeah And they were joking on the morning show. They're like, well, of course it was a second one. One for Chewy and one for the chick, you know?

01:22:30.33
Mike
Right.

01:22:30.83
Bill
um But yeah, then of course they searched the car. Bulk amount of methamphetamine, cracked cocaine, three used glass meth pipes. three used glass meth pipes. I almost said glass meth pipes.

01:22:41.57
Mike
right

01:22:42.95
Bill
Possession of drugs, obviously charged with three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Citation for driving under suspension. Oh, and I don't think she had, they said that she didn't have a correct permit for the fucking raccoon.

01:22:56.69
Bill
And I'm like, there's there's always got to be the one pile on charge when you're, you know, when you're arrested.

01:23:00.31
Mike
Sure. Well, absolutely.

01:23:01.71
Bill
And I think that was, oh, yeah. And by the way, have a fucking permit for your, forget all the, forget all the other stuff.

01:23:05.56
Mike
You got a license for that raccoon?

01:23:09.96
Bill
But yeah, do you have a license for that?

01:23:11.98
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:23:12.50
Bill
Is he old enough to be smoking?

01:23:14.46
Mike
Right. Uh. Oh. Mm-hmm.

01:23:15.45
Bill
Let's, let's see his ID.

01:23:15.78
Mike
Yes. right

01:23:17.52
Bill
Okay, so last one here. I did not read these because I just thought it'd be fun to figure out what these say. The headline of the article is, if you say these seven phrases without without thinking, you're highly intelligent.

01:23:27.56
Mike
ah

01:23:32.06
Mike
oh

01:23:33.34
Bill
So said since we were since we were talking about people on fucking dating apps being highly highly educated, let's like but you were you agreeing with yourself or...

01:23:39.59
Mike
yes

01:23:47.33
Bill
All right. So um I didn't read these, but let's just see if you and I are intelligent. OK, so number one, I don't know. OK, so believe it or not, admitting ignorance is a clear sign of intelligence.

01:23:58.37
Mike
Right.

01:23:59.27
Bill
Smartest people um among the most or among us understood that they cannot know everything. Recognize the vast expanse of knowledge out there. They humble, humble enough aha to acknowledge their limitations. So I heard that years ago.

01:24:12.39
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:24:12.82
Bill
I'm just in the type of work that I do.

01:24:14.62
Mike
right

01:24:14.69
Bill
um You know, if I'm on the phone with somebody and but whatever, ask somebody asks you a question, don't try to dance around. Just say you don't know and go on for it.

01:24:19.78
Mike
Yeah.

01:24:20.13
Bill
So are we one for one?

01:24:22.48
Mike
We are one for one.

01:24:23.82
Bill
Oh, ah Jesus Christ. Wait do you see, wait till you see the next one. Do you remember what I'm trying to curb saying? um I'm done trying to curb it.

01:24:33.42
Mike
Right.

01:24:33.53
Bill
Number two, that's a great point.

01:24:36.35
Mike
Hmm.

01:24:37.29
Bill
Swear to fucking God, right here, number two.

01:24:38.79
Mike
Ah.

01:24:39.84
Bill
Intelligent people appreciate and acknowledge the wisdom of others. Thank you very much.

01:24:43.75
Mike
ah

01:24:45.50
Bill
there They are not afraid when someone else makes a good argument or shares a valuable insight. um Jesus Christ. i When was that? Was that 10 minutes ago that I said I wasn't going to say that anymore?

01:24:56.06
Mike
Yes. Mm-hmm.

01:24:57.55
Bill
i No, I'm going to keep doing it because I'm fucking smart. Okay, so I'm two for two.

01:25:00.98
Mike
ah Exactly.

01:25:02.91
Bill
You're you're one for two.

01:25:04.25
Mike
Right. Uh-huh.

01:25:06.33
Bill
Number three, why is that? That's the other phrase. Intelligent people are naturally current curious. They don't just accept things at face value. Dig deeper and question the why behind things.

01:25:14.21
Mike
Mm.

01:25:16.38
Bill
I know you do that.

01:25:17.79
Mike
Right.

01:25:18.52
Bill
I do also. Okay, so should we just say three for three?

01:25:19.67
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:25:21.69
Bill
I'll give you the one.

01:25:22.07
Mike
Yeah, good point.

01:25:22.33
Bill
yeah

01:25:25.16
Bill
ah Well, fuck it.

01:25:25.29
Mike
yeah yeah yeah yeah

01:25:26.24
Bill
you you just You just caught up. I was saving a seat for you on the that's a good point one.

01:25:28.37
Mike
Yep, there we are. Uh-huh.

01:25:32.25
Bill
So you're there. Okay, so number four. Let's look at it from a different perspective. Intelligent people are flexible thinkers. They understand that there's often more than one way to view a situation or solve a problem. Okay, I think we might have trouble here. you You have an opinion on this one?

01:25:49.36
Bill
Let's take a look at that from a different perspective, Mike.

01:25:53.16
Mike
Nah, that's fucked up. That's wrong.

01:25:55.45
Bill
Okay.

01:25:56.24
Mike
There's only one way to look at everything.

01:25:57.41
Bill
Okay. Okay. Well, good.

01:25:59.27
Mike
My way.

01:25:59.34
Bill
they we're out

01:26:00.02
Mike
Right.

01:26:00.56
Bill
then Then we're on the same page.

01:26:01.36
Mike
Right.

01:26:02.54
Bill
Okay. So number number four, we don't agree with. We're on the same page.

01:26:04.85
Mike
right

01:26:05.26
Bill
That's back to our good egotistical behavior. ah Number five, I've changed my mind. Changing your mind is often seen as a sign of weakness or indecisive, but in reality, it's a strong indicator of intelligence.

01:26:18.60
Bill
One of the most significant I've changed my mind moments came when well, this guy decided to switch careers, blah, blah, blah. I don't care about what this fucker wanted.

01:26:25.25
Mike
right

01:26:25.51
Bill
Okay. Number six, there's still only two left. Okay. What do you think is the, is number six? Highly intelligent people. Okay.

01:26:34.75
Mike
Well, I'm going to go with number two. I don't know. Isn't that number two? don't know. I don't know.

01:26:42.44
Bill
Okay. but I agree with you. agree with you. Good point.

01:26:45.03
Mike
ah Good point.

01:26:45.27
Bill
Great point. Great points.

01:26:46.23
Mike
Yay.

01:26:47.87
Bill
Highly intelligent people.

01:26:48.57
Mike
Let's look at it from another angle. Maybe I don't know. Maybe I do know. Wait, what?

01:26:52.55
Bill
i don't know.

01:26:53.04
Mike
Okay.

01:26:53.11
Bill
That's a great point. Let's look at it from what do you think, Mike? um Highly intelligent people value the thoughts and opinions of others. They understand that they don't have all the answers and are open to learning from other people.

01:27:00.34
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:27:02.80
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:27:04.88
Bill
I believe that's us. I'm just going to say it right there.

01:27:06.53
Mike
Yes. Mm-hmm.

01:27:07.66
Bill
Not trying to speak for you, but oh shit. Here's the last one. You ready?

01:27:11.91
Mike
but All right.

01:27:13.34
Bill
I was wrong.

01:27:15.87
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:27:16.90
Bill
ah That sounds like, remember, that's a Fonzie moment. Remind me of that. I'm going to tell you about something with that in a minute.

01:27:21.73
Mike
Right.

01:27:23.63
Bill
Admitting when you're wrong is perhaps one of the most courageous and intelligent things you can do. It takes a lot of wisdom and humility to acknowledge your mistakes. It shows that you value truth and learning over your ego.

01:27:35.40
Bill
I like that. ah do like that.

01:27:36.39
Mike
I do like that. I'll let you know when that happens.

01:27:41.04
Bill
It's a sign of self of your, it's it's a sign that you're self-aware, capable of self-reflection and committed to personal growth.

01:27:50.14
Mike
Right.

01:27:50.49
Bill
So, um, let's just wrap up essence of intelligent. end intelligence is not about showcasing your vast vocabulary or flaunting academic credentials. Okay.

01:27:59.17
Mike
e

01:27:59.44
Bill
It's about being open, curious, and willing to engage with the world around you. How do you feel about that? Mike?

01:28:06.75
Mike
Nope.

01:28:08.56
Bill
You don't know. is that a great point?

01:28:10.25
Mike
Yeah, I don't know. That's a great point.

01:28:13.97
Bill
All right. So, yeah, it's just that kind of cracked me up. The fact that I that I vowed not to say that that's number two on the intelligence list.

01:28:19.48
Mike
Yes. Mm-hmm.

01:28:21.52
Bill
Jesus Christ. OK, real quick, the Fonzie thing.

01:28:24.87
Mike
Yes.

01:28:25.12
Bill
um So first of all, I'm listening to the the auto book that I'm listening to now. Well, not right at this moment because we're doing this. that I have in my car ready to listen to again, John Stamos.

01:28:35.03
Mike
yes

01:28:35.69
Bill
I got that one because um that one came up.

01:28:36.67
Mike
Yeah.

01:28:38.21
Bill
I mean, I know he's, you know, obviously sobriety is good story. One way or the other, he's talking a lot. He's got a lot of the the full house and not how that came about. I mean, that show was what it was, but Bob Saget stuff.

01:28:47.96
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:28:48.19
Bill
He talks about, he does bring up the Lori Loughlin thing with the college thing talks about his rise to, you know, again, some of this rise to fame and you can, you can see he hasn't gotten into his full blown addiction stuff yet, but um all the signs are there.

01:29:01.50
Mike
Sure.

01:29:01.66
Bill
But um I started, as I was looking at it, it came up, Henry Winkler wrote a book three, four years ago.

01:29:06.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:29:09.14
Bill
And I think it's something like, it might be called Being Henry or something like that.

01:29:14.28
Mike
All right.

01:29:14.40
Bill
um but But yeah, when the month switched around and I got my free credit, I just got that. That's like a nine hour book or something like that. So after I finished with Stamos, he hasn't gotten to the point yet.

01:29:24.95
Bill
He hasn't talked about his old apartment hearing that somebody peed in the closet.

01:29:27.92
Mike
The Hollywood Continental Apartments.

01:29:30.85
Bill
Yeah. Okay. Now going have to remember that. I just thought, I'm like, wouldn't this be fucking funny if he's like, yeah, this apartment that I lived in, he goes, I heard years later, some, some dude fucking, you know, some dudes were in there and trashed it.

01:29:39.89
Mike
No, no, no, no, no.

01:29:40.96
Bill
We're peeing all over the place. And I don't know.

01:29:43.48
Mike
That was the place I lived with my ex-wife. So, no, that wasn't the band that wasn't a band apartment. That place was way too nice for that.

01:29:50.47
Bill
okay. Okay.

01:29:51.56
Mike
Yeah.

01:29:51.79
Bill
Okay.

01:29:52.53
Mike
No, the band apartments were down towards the east side of Hollywood. This is the west side of Hollywood.

01:29:58.85
Bill
Oh, so, but you did, you peed in the nice apartment.

01:30:01.33
Mike
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Absolutely.

01:30:04.04
Bill
what Why wouldn't you?

01:30:05.82
Mike
i one who Exactly.

01:30:08.14
Bill
that's That's a great point. That's a really great point.

01:30:09.63
Mike
Right.

01:30:12.18
Bill
It just, why did you pee in there? Come on, you can say it.

01:30:14.92
Mike
i yeah

01:30:15.36
Bill
don't.

01:30:15.86
Mike
I don't know. Because I was fucking blacked out.

01:30:21.04
Bill
yeah Same reason I didn't even want to say the word drawer anymore because that's why some people still find us. Oh, top three search things. Again, mature, mature.com, mature.com, all this shit. We're still, we're still pulling the maturity people that people looking for, you know, fucking naughty websites.

01:30:35.84
Bill
So anyhow, sober, not mature.

01:30:36.09
Mike

01:30:38.61
Bill

01:31:22.69
Mike
Now it's time, kids. It's time for you to fuck off. Then keep fucking off. Keep fucking off till you get to a gate with a sign on it saying, you cannot fuck off past here.

01:31:34.17
Mike
Climb over that gate. Dream the impossible dream. And keep fucking off. Good. Sure.

01:31:42.78
Bill
I was laughing when you're like, thank you for not touching yourself during another. ah I had literally just hit the mute button when you said that.

01:31:47.40
Mike
