SoberNotMature - Episode 177 (What Can We Do For Brown)

This week we have...

Mike and Bill, back to normal. And we use the word "normal," very loosely.

Mike started off with his reading and it was about keeping it simple. It's a common phrase in the recovery community and although it should be "simple," it can be challenging. We had a good conversation.

We talked about an AA anniversary, Mary Lou Retton, the history behind John Barleycorn, acting like a sober person, negative sentences, Cologuard (What Can We Do For Brown), using our talents, sober friends and Kentucky.

We also had a brief conversation about resentments. They are the number one offender and no good for any of us.

Enjoy the episode.

00:00:01.39
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome once again to another episode of Sober Not Mature. you know, the funny part was I was going to start out by saying, hey, we're back and back to normal and blah, blah, blah.

00:00:13.28
Bill
It's a Friday night.

00:00:13.57
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:00:14.67
Bill
And then, yeah, Mike and I just spent the last five minutes figuring out what do we got? Three three Thursday recordings, two Wednesday recordings, and literally in the next month and a half.

00:00:21.55
Mike
yeah Yep.

00:00:24.00
Bill
So I don't know. I mean, we're we're not fucking normal to begin with.

00:00:25.93
Mike
Yeah.

00:00:27.17
Bill
So what why should why should this be any different, right?

00:00:30.10
Mike
ah Exactly. You know, and um as you know as we signed on, I'm, of course, thinking to myself, what are we going to do with ourselves if we can't drink anymore? Yeah.

00:00:40.25
Bill
Right. Yeah. it it's just, it's, it's funny because, well, first of all, and we'll, I may start, it'll be in our um upcoming guest email starting this week, but ah we've got another author coming on and his name is Ian Fee.

00:00:50.57
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:00:54.57
Bill
And I'm going to get the name of his book here as I'm So i'm talking, but the, the way that this all came up to begin with was we got approached by this gentleman and it's through, it's kind of cool. it's through There's been two or three of them of these guests.

00:01:05.50
Mike
Yeah.

00:01:06.00
Bill
I think it's the authors that come through these. They're actually like podcast bookers is what they are, you know?

00:01:10.30
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:01:11.65
Bill
So um I don't know if it's the same lady this time as it was, but they're very nice, very pleasant. Nothing like that fucking a-hole that, ah you know, contacted us whenever that was in the first few months and it doomed us to failure.

00:01:18.17
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:01:22.37
Mike
Yep.

00:01:25.22
Bill
Yeah.

00:01:25.31
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:01:27.61
Bill
90% of podcast bail in the first year.

00:01:30.69
Mike
ye

00:01:30.76
Bill
Fuck you on episode 177. Motherfucker.

00:01:33.67
Mike
sir

00:01:34.05
Bill
Anyhow. But um so, yeah, the guy's name is Ian Fee. I-A-N-F-E-E. And his book is called Wild Ride to Sobriety. um He's on Instagram. His book's on Amazon.

00:01:45.97
Bill
um He is on Facebook also. He's got another thing, another website that he does. um But these are kind of like that I'm not saying that we won't talk about. We'll talk about whatever the fuck he wants to talk about more likely.

00:01:54.38
Mike
Right.

00:01:54.70
Bill
But, um you know,

00:01:55.42
Mike
Whatever the fuck we want to talk about.

00:01:57.21
Bill
yeah But he's been, he's, you know, he's sober, been sober since 2017, I think, but wrote the book, got some other shit going on.

00:02:03.83
Mike
Sounds right.

00:02:05.07
Bill
But um the, and again, this came up and I'm like, I'm like, oh, he's, we're good to go for the, I was thinking, you know, um whatever it is next Friday. And then I thankfully texted Mike cause I'm like, oh, we don't have anything fucking going on.

00:02:13.42
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:02:17.50
Bill
um And I was thinking collectively we, you know, cause you and I do, we chit chat about this shit.

00:02:20.22
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:02:22.85
Bill
And then I texted Mike. I'm like, Oh, and he's like, no, they got this going on. Like, Oh fuck. Forgot about that. I had the reminder set and then two more reminders pop up before I get on here.

00:02:31.52
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:02:32.15
Bill
And then, yeah, we got, you know, five different, no, yeah, yeah. Five different days in the next, uh, next, whatever it is, month and a half.

00:02:37.96
Mike
Six weeks.

00:02:38.18
Bill
But,

00:02:38.60
Mike
Yeah. yeah

00:02:39.03
Bill
Yeah. Next six weeks. So, but you know, the thing of it is, and I, and I'm still proud of the fact that because easily with all this shit going on, especially with the, we're going to be it's a family get together. We're all getting out to Chippewa Lake where we went for our mom's funeral service, where we all stayed um same place.

00:02:49.17
Mike
Right.

00:02:54.35
Mike
Yep.

00:02:56.04
Bill
I think Jody was able to book as far as I know, 90% sure.

00:02:58.85
Mike
Yeah.

00:03:00.04
Bill
um So we're going to be there hanging out with the family and they're going to be part of the family is going to be there the entire week.

00:03:05.88
Mike
Right.

00:03:06.53
Bill
So, you know, we're trying to figure out what day to record. mean, that would have been an easy one to say, you know what? Fuck all you people for that week.

00:03:12.14
Mike
Ah, right.

00:03:12.43
Bill
we're yeah But, um you know, the only difference that we can record on a Wednesday and why not?

00:03:17.64
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:03:17.63
Bill
It's like, I don't know. I'm kind of proud of our of our consistency. You know, this this whole this whole sobriety thing is the longest goddamn thing I've ever, longest relationship, quote unquote, I've ever had in my life.

00:03:26.71
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:03:27.34
Bill
And, you know, we've been doing this thing for, you know, three and a half years.

00:03:27.89
Mike
Yeah.

00:03:30.69
Bill
that's That's close to the long, well, it's half,

00:03:32.70
Mike
It's getting there.

00:03:33.71
Bill
Yeah, that's 50% of the longest relationship that I've ever had. you know So, I don't know. kind of I'm kind of proud of this whole thing. Our consistency, if nothing else. Whatever whatever comes out of this thing, is we may not be proud of, but hey, whatever.

00:03:45.38
Mike
Right, but we're here. and You know, we were taught real early on, man, show up. The rest of it will take care of itself, and that's kind of, that's my attitude on this thing.

00:03:55.34
Bill
Right. Yeah, and you know what? We're we're going to go another episode without begging for your fucking money either, so...

00:04:01.23
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:04:03.00
Bill
So real quick, our friend Al from the reason I brought that up is our friend Al from Facebook and Instagram sent a message. He's like, he's like, oh, he goes, ah you know, I think he said, just listen to the episode or maybe you just assume that.

00:04:13.82
Bill
But he's like, so what the with the whole money thing? He goes, you're talking about. And then he said the name of the podcast i message back.

00:04:20.40
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:04:20.57
Bill
And I'm like, hmm, yes. And I'm like, I said, said, here's the thing. You know, I do. I respect the individuals. I listen to podcasts.

00:04:26.86
Mike
Sure.

00:04:27.30
Bill
I just, I don't like it. And the wording and all that stuff and blah, blah, blah.

00:04:29.29
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:04:31.38
Bill
But he's like, yeah, he goes, they they do that or something like that. He didn't, he didn't necessarily jump on our bandwagon and say, yeah, fuck them.

00:04:33.80
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

00:04:37.39
Bill
Yeah.

00:04:37.59
Mike
Right. Yeah, but yeah but but clearly it's coming across that way to some people. So, yeah hey guess what?

00:04:42.95
Bill
Yeah.

00:04:43.55
Mike
We're not unique. We're not alone.

00:04:46.27
Bill
Yeah, it was just it was just kind of funny. He picked up on something else of ours when we were talking about something a while back, too.

00:04:50.48
Mike
since

00:04:52.82
Bill
So, you know, i mean, every every once in a while, at least one or two people actually not only listen, but pay attention to what we're talking about. So, Al, fucking thank you.

00:04:59.65
Mike
Damn.

00:05:01.24
Bill
Thank you.

00:05:01.31
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:05:04.05
Bill
All right. So, um I don't know. Whatever. i guess, you know, kind of rolling back to this normal thing. Normally, we do a reading, I think. Are we we back to readings? You know, i not that we ever got away from it, but...

00:05:12.53
Mike
I mean, right.

00:05:13.99
Bill
but

00:05:14.56
Mike
Yeah. I mean, I've got one. oh

00:05:17.49
Bill
Okay. Okay.

00:05:18.59
Mike
Right. It was, um I actually, I had marked one the other morning and went back and read it and went, well, that kind of sucks.

00:05:29.72
Mike
So I was, you know, because actually I had marked two of them, one in God grant me and one keep it simple, actually both the same day, a couple of days ago. Went back and read them both away. the Fuck, man. Apparently I wasn't totally awake or something, um but they weren't that great. So I was a little shit. All right. Now got to find one.

00:05:47.89
Mike
um You know, here I thought, and first thought wrong.

00:05:49.84
Bill
Right? Yeah, prepared.

00:05:51.61
Mike
I thought I had two of them. I had none. um So I, as I'm flipping and going and looking and but I went, you know what? God damn it. So I grabbed Keep It Simple, flipped to the back, looked up, Keep It Simple.

00:06:07.46
Bill
Nice.

00:06:08.58
Mike
And this came up and it's all right. So we're going to use it because I was tired of working at this.

00:06:12.01
Bill
Cool.

00:06:15.93
Mike
So yeah it was it's ah January 11th from Keep It Simple. And here we go. ah If there's a harder way of doing something, someone will find it.

00:06:29.45
Mike
Ralph E. Ross. I tried to look him up and all I got was a bunch of obituaries. So I don't know who the fuck he is, but he's probably dead. All right. um When we used alcohol or other drugs, we did most things the hard way.

00:06:45.69
Mike
We could turn a simple task into a day-long project. We could turn a simple problem into an argument. We were creative giants in doing things the hard way.

00:06:58.09
Mike
We need to change this. We deserve easier lives. It's okay to take the smooth road. In our program, we have slogans for this.

00:07:08.96
Mike
Keep it simple. Let go and let God. First things first. And easy does it. These slogans remind us that it's okay to live with as little trouble as possible.

00:07:21.62
Mike
Prayer for the day. Higher power. Show me how to live a simple life. I don't have to do everything the hard way if I listen better to you. Action for the day. Damn it. We got to do actions anyway.

00:07:35.31
Mike
um I'll list three or four things that I do that make my life harder than it needs to be. I'll share them with a friend or several of them.

00:07:46.44
Bill
Okay, so um I don't know, right right off the bat, I mean, I can i can relate to um everything in there. So um there there's there's no issue whatsoever with me relating to the reading.

00:07:53.26
Mike
Yeah,

00:07:58.03
Bill
So, i mean, there's probably plenty of things that I can i can rattle on about. but um So I guess to begin with, I mean, do you you have anything like right now that you can think of that you're you feel makes your life more difficult? No.

00:08:10.25
Mike
Um, I mean, not, not a whole hell of a lot. There was I know i've read that and I was like, kind of, you know, didn't think about it too much, but I thought about it a little and I'm like, shit, not, not really. i you know, I'm not sure.

00:08:26.26
Mike
i mean, you know, clearly, uh, there's a percentage of it that's sobriety that there was a percentage of it, uh, just getting older and not, you know, not having the energy to work it up.

00:08:35.02
Bill
Right.

00:08:37.66
Mike
Um, um,

00:08:37.93
Bill
right

00:08:38.85
Mike
Yeah, you know, I mean, I'm sure there are um but certainly not like it used to be, and nothing glaring comes to mind, which is pretty goddamn nice.

00:08:50.88
Bill
Right.

00:08:51.58
Mike
Yeah.

00:08:52.28
Bill
Yeah. And I was just thinking that the same thing. I mean, first of all, when I asked the question, but as you were talking, um i mean, I'll go back to my, you know, the the tried and true thing that I always talk about is the fact that I, you know, I worry, you know, about the about the future.

00:09:04.88
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:09:05.59
Bill
So I make there's a lot of times that I'll make today more difficult than it needs to be um by worrying about and thinking about, you know, tomorrow.

00:09:10.82
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:09:15.04
Mike
Shit that hasn't happened yet.

00:09:16.63
Bill
Yeah. You know, or, or shit that, you is more than likely, I mean, I've got, you know, we've got experiences in here too and sober, sober lives that we've lived for long enough and, and whatever.

00:09:22.59
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:09:25.73
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:09:25.96
Bill
So we're like, okay, this thing is probably going to happen, but can i the the thing that I need to go back to and in most cases is if it, if it feels inevitable, you know, where whatever it is, it doesn't even have to be a really bad thing that there's just going to be a result that I can see coming, you know,

00:09:35.89
Mike
Mm-hmm. Sure.

00:09:40.75
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:09:41.96
Bill
And then I need to look at it rather than worry about it, not really solve the problem, but realize and in ask myself, okay, can you, like you always say, can you do anything about it? Can you change it?

00:09:53.45
Mike
Right.

00:09:53.44
Bill
And worst case scenario, um not only can you, but how will you deal with it? you know um Because it's going to happen. you know It's going to be inevitable.

00:10:00.41
Mike
Right.

00:10:00.77
Bill
It hasn't happened yet, but I mean, You know, it's like the train coming down the tracks. It's like, it's not going to go over there.

00:10:04.68
Mike
hey

00:10:05.71
Bill
It's coming this way, but it just depends on, am I going to stand on the fucking track and get mushed, you know, or am I going to, you know, jump to this, at whatever the case is, you know, and I go back to, you know, once again, it's, it's the job, it's the money, it's whatever it is.

00:10:06.85
Mike
Right.

00:10:09.37
Mike
a Yeah, right.

00:10:18.38
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:10:18.75
Bill
And, you know, I, I write shit down and I bunch of things out and I'm like, okay, do I want to take a trip? Can I do this? And then I work it out. if I, if I figure that this might spread me a little thin, um, but in number one, am I, is it, I don't know.

00:10:31.16
Bill
not spending money on, you know, fucking hookers and cocaine, um, yet I don't, I don't have hooker and cocaine buddies.

00:10:34.10
Mike
Right. Yeah. e Anymore. Yeah.

00:10:39.77
Bill
So it's not a problem.

00:10:40.37
Mike
Right?

00:10:41.31
Bill
You know, even if, even if I thought that that

00:10:42.49
Mike
Well, I do, but yeah, then I wouldn't have money for anything else.

00:10:46.63
Bill
Yeah. I mean, like ah literally on when, when, whatever time my, my paycheck hits my bank account, especially on commission day, you know, or commission time of the month, I have hooker and cocaine money.

00:10:53.45
Mike
a Right. Yeah, right.

00:10:56.18
Bill
If I, if I, if I take care of it right then, you know, i go run out the,

00:10:56.67
Mike
Absolutely.

00:10:59.48
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. I could have a really good night tonight. Nope.

00:11:04.03
Bill
yeah yeah right out at the door, go up to one of those fucking strip clubs up the road up here at, you know, fucking one o'clock in the morning and I can have Hickerson, Hickerson, Hickerson cocaine.

00:11:08.20
Mike
you

00:11:10.86
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:11:13.41
Bill
I can have me some Hickerson cocaine.

00:11:15.12
Mike
Yep. Well, yeah. Some hickers, right.

00:11:18.90
Bill
I got to tell you about Kentucky too.

00:11:20.36
Mike
yeah

00:11:20.34
Bill
Cause that just, I really do. Nothing to do with hookers and cocaine, but I had a good time, but I just want have some Hickerson.

00:11:24.73
Mike
some hicker right

00:11:27.37
Bill
But um I think that that's probably my, you know, my, my biggest, my biggest thing. Other than that, I don't, Because what i what I'm trying to think about, there's nothing glaring that sticks out.

00:11:37.79
Bill
But here's what I know is when I have something come up, because things come up, we still live lives, right?

00:11:43.49
Mike
Yeah.

00:11:44.01
Bill
um When something comes up, um I face it and i and I deal with it and I ask for help if I need it. um So that the things that that do come into my life don't make my life harder.

00:11:55.56
Bill
I don't know if that makes sense.

00:11:55.85
Mike
Right.

00:11:56.48
Bill
I mean, okay.

00:11:56.91
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.

00:11:58.23
Bill
Because I'm...

00:11:58.89
Mike
Right. I mean, yeah, that's just it. you know You know, we can certainly make, yeah we're going to have problems and um we can certainly make them worse. ah And we have, I know I have, um but yeah, but we don't have to do that today.

00:12:14.93
Mike
We don't have to make things harder, which is what the reading's totally talking about. We don't have you don't have to live that way today, son.

00:12:21.56
Bill
but

00:12:22.53
Mike
Um,

00:12:22.61
Bill
Right.

00:12:24.58
Mike
Right. You know, yeah. I mean, we, we thankfully are sober enough that we, we see these things coming and we go, okay, going to happen.

00:12:36.35
Mike
Um, let's try not to make it worse. Let's try not to blow it out of proportion. Let's try, you know, I mean, and, For me and and certainly the people that I surrounded myself with back then um enjoyed making it worse.

00:12:51.03
Bill
right

00:12:51.15
Mike
You know, ah for me, it gave me an excuse to get fucked up. Right. Look how bad it is. I've got to get fucked up because this is really bad. Well, I'm making it worse. So I have an excuse to get loaded Yeah, yeah.

00:13:05.23
Bill
Right.

00:13:06.03
Mike
Well, I don't have an excuse to get loaded today, no matter what. So why am I going to make it worse and and cause myself more pain? skiopy It's to be uncomfortable and I'll be uncomfortable for a minute, get through it, and then be comfortable again.

00:13:23.64
Bill
Right. Well, and you know, the the thing that is, like you said, making trouble for other people and getting loaded and all that stuff. um I mean, I know I did. i didn't realize it at the time, but um i I enjoyed ah the chaos.

00:13:32.67
Mike
Sure.

00:13:35.91
Bill
I mean, my life was, if nothing else, in my, I mean, my brain was all fucking chaos.

00:13:36.38
Mike
Sure.

00:13:41.51
Bill
And, you know, maybe maybe you do. You feel more comfortable if you're fucking up everyone else's life.

00:13:45.41
Mike
Sure.

00:13:45.45
Bill
Well, everyone else's life is all chaos now, too.

00:13:46.91
Mike
Yeah. Misery loves company.

00:13:47.63
Bill
Yeah. yeah it ah my My life was a world of shit. Come on, people. Join in. or Or I'm going to um gonna make you join in.

00:13:55.68
Mike
Yeah, exactly. You know, I mean, yeah I've talked about that before and it was, that was one of my epiphanies of how I lived, you know, um, je fuck. Fuck. um Yeah, you know, I say I'm a loner and I, you know, isolate and all that stuff. And I did, but still somewhere a human being and we all want to be a part of something.

00:14:17.54
Mike
and if that happens, You know, that something is chaos and in misery and we want to have other people there with us too.

00:14:26.43
Bill
Right.

00:14:26.96
Mike
You know, and and so like, I mean, that part of ah doesn't change. What changes is we want happiness and comfort and security and peace and serenity. And um I want other people around me to have that too. And, you know, I got to be a part of that.

00:14:43.68
Mike
like It doesn't just magically happen.

00:14:46.05
Bill
Right.

00:14:47.02
Mike
Just like the fucking pain and the chaos didn't magically happen.

00:14:47.10
Bill
Right.

00:14:50.31
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:14:50.72
Bill
right Right. That was, that was manufactured and and built it, you know, I don't know, whatever you want to call it, just all stirred, stirred together and shot out of people. But, yeah it just made me think about too, is that, I mean, and and I know you're the opposite of this, this too, or the opposite of that now is that when um and we talked about it openly on here, when either one of us is kind of in a fucked up mood, again, you reach out and if you need help and talk to people and all that stuff.

00:15:13.56
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:15:14.45
Bill
But, I mean, I, I try to keep to myself, um, if I'm in a fucked up mood, cause I don't want to take it out on somebody else, you know?

00:15:17.45
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:15:20.99
Mike
Right.

00:15:21.86
Bill
Um, and I try not to, if I, if I am around people or need to be around people, um, um, I'm careful with what I say to begin with, you know, and just general life.

00:15:30.76
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:15:32.33
Bill
Thankfully, again, like I, I laugh when you said we're sober enough. That's, that was funny.

00:15:36.08
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah.

00:15:36.74
Bill
yeah i I'm sober enough to realize that I need to watch myself on a daily basis anyhow.

00:15:39.74
Mike
oh

00:15:40.70
Bill
But if I'm in a, if I'm in a weird or fucked up mood, um I need to really pay attention because it's not this person or that person.

00:15:44.25
Mike
yeah

00:15:49.92
Bill
It's whatever, like you said, you know, I'm trying to work shit out in my head.

00:15:52.95
Mike
Yeah.

00:15:53.14
Bill
And then, you know, I, I don't need to blow up on that, blow this fucking garbage on anyone else. I don't want to do that.

00:15:58.49
Mike
Right. Exactly.

00:16:00.03
Bill
So then I have to fucking apologize.

00:16:00.18
Mike
Yeah. So, yeah.

00:16:01.35
Bill
Yeah.

00:16:02.27
Mike
God knows we don't want to do that. um Right. So, yeah. you right Like you said, you know, kind of take yourself out of it until, you know, you can...

00:16:13.44
Mike
Bucket up a little buttercup and get yourself in a fucking better mood or fake it, you know, but one way or another, don't take it out on other people.

00:16:18.54
Bill
Right.

00:16:22.16
Mike
Yeah. I mean, you know, and it's going to happen some and, but, you know, certainly not like it used to And, um you know, yeah, try to mitigate it, man. Cause, you know, I, again, don't want to hurt people like I used to and all that stuff.

00:16:35.46
Mike
Don't want to hurt people at all. Um, so yeah, if you know, if I'm in a really bad mood, yes, I'm, I'm going to isolate myself and get through my bad mood.

00:16:46.27
Mike
I know it's going to pass. Um, cause it always fucking does, but yeah, you know, and if I have to be around someone, you know, don't take it out on them, you know, fake it a little, you know, and, and, and,

00:16:57.72
Bill
right

00:17:00.98
Mike
they're gonna If they're close enough to you, they're to go, hey, man. And you just go, look, um I had a bad day. It's fine. Just you know give me a few. And um you know generally, I mean, if you're really serious about it, five minutes later, you're fucking better than you were.

00:17:16.09
Bill
right

00:17:16.39
Mike
so So settle down.

00:17:17.34
Bill
yeah ah Yeah. A short story. I had to, had to do a little step 10 thing with my boss, um, this week and it's just so fucking stupid. And, uh, when, once I tell the story, you'll see you'll see how fucking pointless it was to even get to this, to even do it, you know?

00:17:33.27
Bill
So, um, again, talking about the money and this and that, I just came off one of my, one of the the worst months I've had. It was a slow month for everyone.

00:17:39.05
Mike
Right. isn

00:17:40.32
Bill
Um, you know, for commission wise and blah, blah, blah, and same deal.

00:17:42.47
Mike
right

00:17:42.64
Bill
Everything I was just talking about, but keep stepping forward on that. But, um So we work, now we work the dialer only once a week. It's these, we can run into this whole pool of what what's what are called second voices. Not a big deal, but they could be large balances, same ones we work, everything in between type of thing. So um I came in one morning and, or got on one morning and had a voicemail.

00:18:05.75
Bill
And I spend the first hour, I work my route, I work my day in a certain way every single day. And the first hour um gets me a certain amount of, I get as many phone calls out, go through some stuff, dump some bad shit, whatever.

00:18:11.45
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:18:17.39
Bill
I do a lot of cleanup work that first hour.

00:18:19.70
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:18:20.17
Bill
it sets up my day right, you know?

00:18:21.53
Mike
Right.

00:18:22.38
Bill
um You know, before it's literally it's it feels like before the the working world wakes up and I don't get a lot of phone calls in or inbound or anything like that. So it's time to do it.

00:18:30.30
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:18:31.30
Bill
So had a voicemail and I didn't return it, but I listened to it and heard what it was. um so I'm like, I call this guy back. But what it was, it was a one of the dialer calls. So the dialer, they're open to anyone.

00:18:43.88
Mike
Mm

00:18:43.91
Bill
And we're all calling on them a minimum of four different times in a four week period.

00:18:44.02
Mike
Mm

00:18:48.37
Bill
So once a week. And so it could be four different reps.

00:18:51.17
Mike
hmm.

00:18:51.26
Bill
So both myself and probably two other reps had left messages for this guy called back and basically said, call me back. I'm going to pay it.

00:18:58.33
Mike
Uh huh.

00:18:58.88
Bill
$2,000 account, 2400 bucks, whatever, not a big deal.

00:19:01.27
Mike
Right.

00:19:01.76
Bill
So, um, I go to call the guy back a little after nine. Um, and I look at the, at the case and one of the other reps, um, had already taken a phone call from the guy. It's in her thing and whatever she's going to get to payment. I'll like go fuck this. I got the voicemail from Thursday before the holiday.

00:19:17.39
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

00:19:17.91
Bill
um So I'm like, okay, this, ah I'll get a move back or he'll give me credit, while blah, blah, blah. So then I'm like, ah, is it really even fucking worth i'm like, no, because I, the part of me was like, okay, so I want to know how this is handled because it's never happened to me before.

00:19:30.76
Mike
Yeah.

00:19:30.85
Bill
um I think I did all the right things. Go from there. So email me come, he emails me back and he's like, well, you know, kind of, uh, she left a message for it. She worked and she gets credit. I'm just like, what the fuck, man?

00:19:42.05
Bill
So i'm like, did you see where the voicemail was from? Cause I sent along the voicemail. yeah He's like, yeah, but blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, I'm like a couple of emails back and forth and I'm getting fucking irritated because it's just kind of like, okay, so I'm, I'm to the point where we talk about trusting the process.

00:19:51.81
Mike
who

00:19:56.35
Bill
I'm like, well, I'm, It's only two grand, you know, but it's two grand.

00:19:59.02
Mike
ah ah

00:20:00.05
Bill
And I'm like, if I get fucked on one, how many am I getting fucked on that I don't know about? So then that starts stewing in me, right?

00:20:03.83
Mike
Right.

00:20:05.63
Bill
You know, so that there's a, there's a turning point right there. So now I'm getting fucked all the time in my head.

00:20:11.12
Mike
right Yeah, of course.

00:20:12.96
Bill
And then, you know, finally, like the last email I sent to my boss, I said, you know, what I said, I don't agree with it, but I'll accept it. You know, I said, thank you for taking a look at it. And then he calls me. I'm like, oh, fuck me. So I'm like, at this point, I'm mad.

00:20:23.93
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:20:24.18
Bill
Same thing as I just said. I don't want to talk about it. I'm like, I'm just going to leave it be.

00:20:26.71
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:20:28.39
Bill
I'm going to figure this out in my head.

00:20:28.81
Mike
Right.

00:20:29.51
Bill
And I would have, I would have calmed down. It would have been fine because I would have done the math in my head and blah, blah, blah.

00:20:34.21
Mike
Right.

00:20:34.58
Bill
So he gets on the phone and then he he, he's going, he keeps telling me all the shit that he was just telling me the email, not being not bad. He's a cool guy. I like my manager, but then, you know, here's what, here's what got to me.

00:20:43.28
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:20:45.74
Bill
Cause I'm like, I said, no, this is what it was. He's like, no, this, and I know this. And he said, well, but you know, she returned the phone call right away and you didn't, you apparently decided to go in a different direction. And I said, I said, you know what? I said, you're, I said, this is getting worse. Just talking about it.

00:21:00.23
Bill
and And I didn't say it rude, but I just said, this is getting, this is getting worse. Just talk. Cause it was every, every word.

00:21:06.79
Mike
Right.

00:21:06.82
Bill
And he's like, he's like, okay, he goes, uh, you know, then we're, we're done. So call's done. And I'm sitting there about again, half hour, whatever. and I'm like 45 minutes.

00:21:13.96
Mike
okay

00:21:15.36
Bill
And then, you know, we hit break time. Cause this was again, nine o'clock. We do a 10 o'clock break.

00:21:20.02
Mike
yeah

00:21:20.25
Bill
Um, I'm now it's on my fucking mind. I'm like, you know what? I said, I don't agree with it. I have a slight issue with the process in my head, but all said and done, what this comes down to, um, this little blow up in my mind was over probably netted out to be $18.

00:21:35.89
Bill
Okay.

00:21:36.14
Mike
Right.

00:21:36.84
Bill
Of money in my pocket.

00:21:38.61
Mike
huh.

00:21:38.68
Bill
And I'm like, you fucking idiot. You know?

00:21:40.31
Mike
Uh huh. Right.

00:21:41.95
Bill
So I emailed I emailed him and I apologized. I said, if I came across um dismissive or disrespectful, it wasn't my intention. I said, I'm coming off, you know, one of the worst months. there this None of these are any excuses, but um I said it hit me the wrong way.

00:21:53.54
Mike
ahha

00:21:55.13
Bill
And I said, I apologize. I said, financially, it's hurting me. And I said, it's it's making me anxious. And I said, I didn't mean to, it wasn't right. didn't mean to take it out on you.

00:22:03.82
Mike
right

00:22:04.36
Bill
And he emailed me back and he said, he said, first of all, he goes, I understand where you're coming from. He goes, I, I realized it was just, you know, a reaction, but he said, thank you very much for the email. And he said, I'm, I'm looking at a couple of things.

00:22:15.27
Bill
I'm going to try to figure out a way to, um you know, obviously whether, whatever it is, he goes, we're, he goes, I'm, I'm committed to working on, you know, getting, get your performance up and production up.

00:22:22.60
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:22:24.92
Bill
So all sudden done. And I'm like, so it's cool, you know, but I'm like, Jesus Christ.

00:22:26.26
Mike
Right.

00:22:28.98
Bill
I mean, all this shit over literally what it came down to is fucking $18.

00:22:33.10
Mike
Right.

00:22:33.89
Bill
You know,

00:22:34.03
Mike
So you were making your life harder than it needed to be.

00:22:37.55
Bill
that's why, that's why I told it. Cause you, when you said, when I said, don't, don't need to apologize. Then I'm like, oh fuck, this is real life example. That just fucking happened.

00:22:44.58
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:22:45.33
Bill
You know, cause again, when, when we talk about it, I mean, um, I, I can't just throw money around. I don't want to just lose money, but literally if I walked outside or I'm leaving for my trip tomorrow, if I somehow, if I, well, I don't have any cash on me.

00:22:51.90
Mike
Right.

00:22:55.67
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:22:58.17
Bill
I think I have $2, but if I had a 20 and I lost it,

00:22:58.28
Mike
Right. Yeah. Right. Uh-huh.

00:23:03.03
Bill
i I'm not going to go broke.

00:23:06.02
Mike
Right.

00:23:06.11
Bill
You know what I mean? I don't want to lose $20, but it's it's not worth the the reaction that I had.

00:23:07.17
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:23:13.13
Mike
Right.

00:23:13.12
Bill
And on top of that, fucking with the guy that controls my you know my job.

00:23:16.56
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:23:17.96
Bill
you know But i I did what I was supposed to do because it it was on my on my mind for like a half hour.

00:23:22.74
Mike
Right.

00:23:22.97
Bill
um So I did the right thing and he thanked me for it. you know

00:23:26.44
Mike
Right.

00:23:27.02
Bill
And he the the thing of it is, he didn't say, oh, you didn't react anyway.

00:23:32.34
Mike
Right.

00:23:34.20
Bill
Uh, but, but I mean, very, very nicely, he's just like he goes, I, I knew it wasn't just a reaction to the circumstance. He goes, it's fine.

00:23:39.77
Mike
right

00:23:39.95
Bill
He goes, not a big deal. I guess I understand. Um, but yeah, he just thanked me. he goes, thank you very much, you know, for the email.

00:23:45.16
Mike
huh ah

00:23:45.71
Bill
Um, and you know, cause I'm, I know, I know ah people don't just go around apologizing. Maybe it's like, yeah, sorry. Cause I know how I used to be.

00:23:54.28
Mike
right

00:23:54.36
Bill
yeah So I don't know. I did the right thing. And I, ah I think, i think it worked out the right way, but to your exact point, I made my life, my life harder for about an hour for no fucking reason.

00:24:04.51
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah.

00:24:05.65
Bill
but

00:24:06.38
Mike
Well, thank you for sharing that with us.

00:24:08.14
Bill
Oh, God. You know, it's again, these are these are the things that um and I never thought my in my mind about, oh, I have to share this or when I cross my mind, I'm like, this might be a great story.

00:24:16.71
Mike
Right.

00:24:17.66
Bill
This is a 10 step. um But I didn't I didn't make a note.

00:24:19.08
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:24:20.25
Bill
I didn't write it down or anything like that. But it certainly wasn't something where like, oh, God, I can't fucking talk about this on a podcast.

00:24:26.42
Mike
Right.

00:24:26.95
Bill
This is fucking terrible. No, that's what you need to talk about on the podcast, you fucking idiot.

00:24:28.44
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah. he

00:24:33.55
Bill
ah But, dumb but yeah, so, I mean, obviously keep it simple.

00:24:34.78
Mike
Yes.

00:24:37.30
Bill
I love the, love the term. I mean, that's one of the, i don't know if you want to call it cliches or sayings or whatever it is. One that I think both of us appreciate um because it is, it's, it's just straight to the point.

00:24:42.69
Mike
sir

00:24:45.40
Mike
Right.

00:24:47.95
Bill
Keep it simple. That's it. Fucking keep it simple.

00:24:49.25
Mike
Yeah. Stop overcomplicating things.

00:24:51.27
Bill
but Stop it. Fucking stop it. yeah It was funny as you were doing the reading when it was kept talking about simple life, but we've already talked about it. um I wrote down live a simple life and in parentheses wrote how, but we've just talked about how, you know, obviously don't, don't do stupid shit like I did to my boss and don't overcomplicate and don't, don't just don't just fucking don't.

00:25:06.16
Mike
Yeah.

00:25:12.72
Mike
Right.

00:25:14.59
Bill
Yeah.

00:25:14.85
Mike
Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Yeah. And, i mean you know, things are again. Yeah. I mean, you know, my manager at work, my managers. Yeah. They both appreciate the fact because, I mean, we've got drivers that, you know, blow shit out of proportion and make it worse than it is. Blah, blah, blah. They're like they got to deal with it.

00:25:34.79
Mike
They have to deal with it because that's their fucking job. Um, but they don't with me and they both said to me on numerous occasions, you know, you're pretty fucking easy to work with.

00:25:37.79
Bill
Right.

00:25:44.99
Mike
And I'm like, yeah, well, you know, we're both just trying to get through our fucking days, man. You know, I want to get this job done and go home.

00:25:49.82
Bill
Right. Right.

00:25:52.78
Mike
And I know you do. I know you do too. So let's, you know, let's not make it harder on each other. And, and yeah, and you know, they appreciate it.

00:25:58.40
Bill
right

00:26:00.78
Mike
And I, and I appreciate them appreciating it because it, you know, it, it It manifests itself in making my life easier, which is what I fucking want.

00:26:09.23
Bill
Right.

00:26:09.98
Mike
Yep.

00:26:10.28
Bill
Yeah. And, you know, and that and that's the thing. I mean, everyone's going to have their moments. But I mean, I think that, um you know, i'm I'm sure that, you know, my my boss's name is Chris and I'm sure Chris, you know, thought, you know, well, that that was out of the ordinary for him.

00:26:21.78
Bill
I'm sure, you know, it popped up.

00:26:21.87
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:26:22.94
Bill
with the He's probably irritated by my by my attitude.

00:26:25.69
Mike
Yeah.

00:26:25.91
Bill
um But, you know, I'm sure realize that it's out of the ordinary. But then I'm I'm guessing he didn't expect me to apologize.

00:26:28.77
Mike
Right.

00:26:31.30
Bill
So, um I mean, I'm glad I'm glad I did one way or the other.

00:26:31.93
Mike
Yeah.

00:26:34.33
Mike
hu

00:26:34.44
Bill
i I worked it and I didn't. I put right in the email. I said, this is not excuses where this this is a reasoning behind it, but it's not a fucking excuse.

00:26:41.99
Mike
Right. Right.

00:26:43.06
Bill
I'm not giving you like this is this. You should have.

00:26:45.74
Mike
Yes.

00:26:46.29
Bill
Yeah.

00:26:46.90
Mike
Yeah. Right.

00:26:48.87
Bill
Because, you know, it's a part of this is fucking again, we're we're still I'm not fucking fixed. You know, I'm just and most of the time, you know, 90 percent of the time I'm fucking far better than I ever was.

00:26:53.99
Mike
No.

00:26:59.10
Bill
I'm, i'm you know, 100 percent better than I used to be, um you know, but I'm not flaed I'm not fixed.

00:26:59.16
Mike
o Right.

00:27:05.47
Bill
I'm flawed.

00:27:06.48
Mike
Yep.

00:27:09.90
Bill
I'm big enough to admit that.

00:27:11.34
Mike
Yes.

00:27:13.08
Bill
And who knows? Maybe my fucked up ways can help somebody else. So if I helped you out there, you're fucking welcome.

00:27:19.74
Mike
Right.

00:27:19.82
Bill
You're welcome. don't Whatever I just said, don't do that. That's all that's it.

00:27:22.71
Mike
Right. Exactly.

00:27:23.41
Bill
That's the moral of the story. Just don't do that. yeah Yeah, exactly.

00:27:28.17
Mike
bad examples.

00:27:30.45
Bill
Thank you for allowing me to be a bad example today.

00:27:32.53
Mike
prefer

00:27:33.20
Bill
hey All right. So anything anything more on the reading?

00:27:37.85
Mike
Nah, I think we covered it pretty well.

00:27:40.65
Bill
Yeah, had a little bit of a tangent that a real life example and on top of ah that was, you know, the icing or cherry on top of our of our little reading. So, OK, cool. All right. So um does anyone out there and I know i know you know who she is, but speaking of speaking of DUIs and bad decisions, does anyone out there know who Mary Lou Retton is?

00:27:56.55
Mike
Yes. knew you were doing that. ah Yeah, America's Sweetheart.

00:28:04.16
Bill
Yeah. Did you, did you see, okay, well ah but back up for anyone who doesn't know. I mean, she was an Olympian, 1980 Olympics, correct? The big ones.

00:28:11.78
Mike
84, I believe.

00:28:12.63
Bill
I wasn't 84 shit. Who was it?

00:28:13.74
Mike
Yes.

00:28:13.81
Bill
Why was I thinking 80? Okay.

00:28:15.41
Mike
don't

00:28:15.39
Bill
Either way. I mean, very popular again. Yeah. Like you just said, America's sweetheart.

00:28:19.23
Mike
Yeah.

00:28:19.62
Bill
Um, anyone just, if you don't know who Mary Lou retin is, you're going to get the DUI story first, I'm sure.

00:28:24.57
Mike
Yeah, probably.

00:28:24.54
Bill
But, um, you know i mean, she was, she was a, you know, hell of an athlete and, um, well-known and like America's sweetheart, you know?

00:28:31.99
Mike
Yes.

00:28:32.67
Bill
So, um, I don't know, whatever it was, it was like, uh, it might be close to a month ago when she got the DUI, but they just released the, you know, again, one of these,

00:28:39.88
Mike
The body cam. Yeah.

00:28:41.14
Bill
Yeah, it's a body cam thing. um First of all, when I um but i saw a picture of her, I'm like, especially in the video, I think I saw the picture one day, her mug shot.

00:28:48.38
Mike
Mm hmm. Mm

00:28:50.59
Bill
And just I'm like, holy fuck. i wouldn't I could have been standing next to her anywhere in the world.

00:28:55.05
Mike
hmm. Right.

00:28:56.88
Bill
I never would have recognized her, you know, but then in the body cam, she was wearing oxygen.

00:28:58.31
Mike
no Yeah.

00:29:01.26
Bill
I'm like, what the fuck, man? So I looked it up and apparently this was only a couple of years ago. She got pneumonia um and had some sort of lung damage, you know, so she got, got herself all fucked up.

00:29:06.29
Mike
Mm hmm. Mm hmm.

00:29:10.21
Mike
Yep.

00:29:12.40
Bill
So that's why she's on oxygen. Cause at one point I didn't watch the whole thing, but,

00:29:14.35
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:29:16.38
Bill
She took off her oxygen before she was going to walk the line.

00:29:19.15
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:29:19.50
Bill
And he's like, you can leave your oxygen. She's like, no, man, this weighs like 10 pounds.

00:29:23.25
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:29:23.75
Bill
I think it's going to like throw off balance or whatever. But again, not that that's funny, but ah yeah, I mean, she was, and she was beside herself fucking surprised when it's like, okay, put your hands behind your back.

00:29:26.74
Mike
right

00:29:36.94
Bill
You know, you're, you're being arrested.

00:29:37.72
Mike
yeah

00:29:38.27
Bill
She's like, what, what, what,

00:29:40.36
Mike
for first birthday

00:29:41.73
Bill
And I'm like, I didn't even watch the whole thing, but I'm like, you're, you probably just fucking reek a booze. Um, I don't know if they did the, uh, like breathalyzer.

00:29:46.06
Mike
Yeah.

00:29:48.24
Bill
I'm sure they did somewhere in there, but, um, yeah, she, didn' she didn't seem like she was doing that well with all of the, all the tests.

00:29:50.05
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:29:54.07
Bill
I'm like, yeah, you're, there's no fucking way in the world. You're walking away from this.

00:29:57.11
Mike
Right.

00:29:57.33
Bill
Um, But, uh, I don't know, you know, it's just one of those things where I'm, I'm looking at it. So to two things, uh, well, probably three, number one, I'm glad it wasn't me. I remember, you know, my DUI and and all that stuff.

00:30:06.66
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:30:08.80
Bill
And, uh, I, I, I remember that and the feeling of it and all all that stuff. I mean, like it was fucking yesterday. So number two, I wouldn't, if there is body cam, um, I don't, I don't know.

00:30:20.63
Bill
I mean, was there body cam shit 94? Why wouldn't there be? Right. But, uh,

00:30:23.67
Mike
I don't think so.

00:30:25.31
Bill
No? Okay, well, well one one way or the other, if there was body cam, I wouldn't want anyone to see my body cam you know footage of that either.

00:30:32.66
Mike
Right.

00:30:33.12
Bill
um

00:30:33.75
Mike
Hate to break it to you.

00:30:33.72
Bill
But then, you know, yeah I know, which is which you know to me, that that's when I get kind of proud of that.

00:30:34.51
Mike
That was 30 years ago.

00:30:40.31
Bill
I'm like, it's been 30 fucking years, man. you know I just didn't, you know i mean, I've only been sober for 15. I just went the remaining 15 without getting caught. That was the only difference.

00:30:47.68
Mike
Right.

00:30:48.65
Bill
yeah um But then then number three, I mean, I felt bad for it. You know, because ah empathy for her, I guess, that I even felt bad for and it's that sympathy.

00:30:52.67
Mike
right hmm. Mm

00:30:56.03
Bill
And I'm not, you know, I don't know pity on her. She, whatever her deal is. But, um you know, I mean, obviously being us being one of, you know, one of the, in those circumstances, I know you obviously never, thankfully never getting caught.

00:31:05.47
Mike
hmm. No, no, they never caught me.

00:31:08.03
Bill
um Yeah. But, you know, you've been in a drunken circumstance before. And, you know, so, you know, obviously I felt for her.

00:31:12.82
Mike
Oh, yeah. Once or twice.

00:31:16.03
Bill
yeah Yeah, so I felt for So um I don't know, laughing at her and how she looked and whatever. And I was just like, first of all, um I mean, maybe... maybe she has been living a fucking rough life over these years.

00:31:27.18
Bill
And, um, I mean, she was, she was like this, this cute little thing. She's still little.

00:31:32.25
Mike
Yeah, little pixie.

00:31:33.81
Bill
Oh yeah. But she's, she, yeah, she's no longer, she's, she's roughed herself up. That's for goddamn sure.

00:31:37.98
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:31:39.06
Bill
You know? So, but I don't know. Yeah. I, like I said, those are the three things, you know, obviously and glad it wasn't me. And, uh, you know, I, I mean, that then on top of that, uh, you know, I did, I kind fell for her, but, um,

00:31:46.29
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:31:50.21
Mike
Yeah.

00:31:50.30
Bill
Um, but the, the other thing too, and of course I had to look it up cause she looked like she was the, they showed the vehicle. It looks like she was driving a Porsche Cayenne, um, that SUV. Cause I looked at the front end.

00:32:01.18
Bill
I'm like, I think that's a, I think that's a Cayenne and I looked it up and I'm pretty sure it is. I mean, that's a fucking $90,000 vehicle, you know, and she's worth like 2 million, which I'm first, I'm like only two, but I'm like 2 million.

00:32:12.48
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:32:14.86
Bill
Okay. Just so anyone out there is clear. If, Today, somebody gave me $2 million.

00:32:18.77
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:32:20.46
Bill
i Number one, I wouldn't scoff at it. And I think I could probably, if I invested right whatever, you know, doing the math, blah, blah, blah.

00:32:22.76
Mike
ahha

00:32:27.90
Bill
And I'm 56 years old. I don't have to work anymore. And I could probably travel and I could do whatever the fuck I want within reason.

00:32:31.79
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:32:34.72
Bill
You know, I could easily live the life that I'm living right now extremely comfortably.

00:32:35.01
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:32:38.74
Mike
Right.

00:32:39.04
Bill
And, you know, ill probably take that $2 million and have it have it done by the time I kick, whatever day it is. but

00:32:44.42
Mike
Yeah.

00:32:45.22
Bill
So I'm not scoffing at $2 million. But then I'm like, well what the fuck has she been doing to get, does she even have $2 million? dollars You know?

00:32:51.27
Mike
Right.

00:32:52.69
Bill
I don't know.

00:32:52.76
Mike
Yeah.

00:32:52.97
Bill
i didn't I didn't look into it that close.

00:32:54.96
Mike
I don't know.

00:32:58.61
Bill
But yeah, anyhow, so if anyone wants to look it up, it just, it just kind of blew my mind, the body cam stuff. And yeah, she was the biggest thing that blew my mind is how literally how surprised she was with ah um that she was getting arrested.

00:33:09.87
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:33:11.05
Bill
So, all right. So on the other side of, of the, of the whole sobriety stuff or drunken stuff, did you see um our friend, Tony, Tony P 26 years?

00:33:22.36
Mike
Oh, yes, I did.

00:33:23.36
Bill
Yeah. So, um, and I, we probably used this full name on here before, but we probably shouldn't. So Tony, yeah.

00:33:29.68
Mike
and

00:33:30.55
Bill
Tony P is a 26 years old. He was one of the guys that, uh, um, well, clearly he's been sober for 26 years. That's first of all.

00:33:37.50
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:33:38.40
Bill
But, um, you know, he was one of the guys that was, um, involved with the Keating Center when we got there.

00:33:43.61
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:33:44.42
Bill
Um, was he, he did. Yeah. He did group. He did group with,

00:33:47.87
Mike
Oh, yeah. yeah He did group because, you know, he was I always used his line when I did group.

00:33:54.77
Bill
Right.

00:33:54.82
Mike
First week I was there, stay till they kick you out.

00:33:57.58
Bill
Right. And that's what I was going to have you bring that up because I was I was, you know, obviously I knew that he said that. So that was my other my other question thinking about. I mean, that knew that line would come up, but um he was a easily, easily could be said that he was a guy that was a huge influence on us.

00:34:11.96
Bill
Right.

00:34:12.28
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:34:13.58
Bill
Um, besides that line, is there anything else specific? I mean, like that you remember about when when we first came in, I've got like one, one specific thing. That was the second thing that they kick them out type of thing or say to like kick you out.

00:34:24.50
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:34:25.06
Bill
But there was one other thing, but any other like main things with him that you can remember?

00:34:25.63
Mike
Right.

00:34:28.89
Bill
Like when you first came in?

00:34:30.29
Mike
I mean, just, you know, that he was clearly doing the thing and it was possible. And, you know, he was, yeah, you know, um and his commitment to service and help, you know, helping another drunk and all that good stuff, another drug addict. um Yeah.

00:34:46.10
Mike
You know, I mean, he went on to, you know, start the lantern and that's, that was like, what, two years, I think.

00:34:49.33
Bill
Right.

00:34:52.79
Mike
He got that open, maybe even less than that.

00:34:54.29
Bill
right

00:34:55.86
Mike
um Yeah, which is another sober house here in Cleveland. That's still up and running, you know. Yeah, it's doing the thing, man, doing the work, living the life.

00:35:08.21
Mike
Yeah, ah you know, Tony was just a a guy who's like kind of always around, doing what he was supposed to do. and

00:35:14.52
Bill
right

00:35:15.04
Mike
Yeah. Influence.

00:35:16.90
Bill
Hey, you know what? It just, uh, it just kind of occurred to me as I'm looking at this, he would, and I, I began, I'm going to say only, it's only 11 years sober when we got, I mean, that I'm like, holy fuck that, that dude son seemed like he was like, I mean, like ages and ages and ages sober when we first got there.

00:35:22.92
Mike
yeah

00:35:31.67
Mike
but sir

00:35:32.53
Bill
Right. But mean, 11 years, don't let me take away from 11 years, but, um, I don't know.

00:35:33.14
Mike
right right well but when you're sitting there with 11 days um right yeah 11 years a long fucking time man

00:35:37.24
Bill
It just, that just occurred to me. 11 minutes. Yeah. eleven minutes yeah

00:35:47.00
Bill
Yeah, it really, it really is. But the, um and I did remember, I couldn't remember what his group was, but I remember him sitting up on the desk and, um you know, I mean, Larry was, Larry was a friend of his.

00:35:57.02
Bill
He and Larry were friends, I know.

00:35:57.69
Mike
ah sorry

00:35:58.38
Bill
And, um but again, yeah, always in and out of the Keating Center, always there to help, like you said, a good influence and a lantern and all the things he's done, you know, for the um giving back.

00:35:58.54
Mike
Right.

00:36:06.83
Bill
But um he also was the one that, do you remember he did the intake pictures?

00:36:13.29
Mike
ah Actually, i don't remember he that he did that.

00:36:18.41
Bill
Yeah, here's here's the only reason I remember that, because um I remember when we got our intake pictures done. And i mean, his his face doesn't it wouldn't have popped into my head that he was the one doing them.

00:36:29.36
Mike
Right. Right.

00:36:29.52
Bill
um But when when you and I were house fathers, we had this whole new set of you know people in however many people were in. And he came in because he would do it you know once every couple of weeks to get the get the pictures.

00:36:38.36
Mike
Right.

00:36:39.91
Bill
So he came in and he's like, you know, where's the house fathers? And I know I, you know, but I think both you and I were there um clearly.

00:36:44.94
Mike
ah

00:36:45.34
Bill
And then we're gathering up people and um we we're just kind of waiting there. He comes walking and he's like, okay, you know, everyone line up. And I walked up and I said, I said, by the way, I said, I'm one of the house fathers. I said, I'm not, um you know, i said, I'm thankfully, yeah I said, you did this with me a couple of months ago. And he's like, he goes, like, he's like, no, I know. He goes, I know who you are. guess I know your house father.

00:37:03.79
Bill
And he goes, he goes, cause he goes, you know how I know. And I said, well, he goes, cause you actually look sober today.

00:37:09.08
Mike
yeah

00:37:11.64
Bill
yeah And I said, well, thank you, Tony. Thank you very much. But I just wanted to let him know, like, yeah, I'm not one of the guys getting my picture taken. day He's like, no, no, no. He goes, I know. he goes, you look sober. You're you're okay.

00:37:24.07
Bill
But yeah, just a, just a good fucking dude. I mean, I can't, I can't even tell you how many good, good people we had like that, you know, around us. But, um you know, I said, Tony was, is, you know, is one of the good ones and one of the ones that I think today that we could even, we could walk up to him and, um you know, he'd, he'd help us in any way we needed if we needed it, you know?

00:37:31.45
Mike
Oh,

00:37:41.97
Mike
ah yeah.

00:37:43.55
Bill
So, yeah.

00:37:43.67
Mike
Right. Absolutely. Yeah. I mean, you know, every time I see him at a fundraiser or out and about or whatever, yeah, we always say hi to each other and just, you know, still doing the thing. Yep. You. Yep.

00:37:56.66
Bill
Yeah, and it's been, I can't remember the last time I would ah it's probably a Keating Center event, I would assume, you know, the last time I saw him, but I remember if I if i would have seen him at the the ice bowl that we went to or the ice, the ice event.

00:38:01.00
Mike
Right.

00:38:09.31
Mike
Ah, yes.

00:38:10.56
Bill
Yeah, that was, that was fucking cold. That's okay, though.

00:38:12.76
Mike
hmm.

00:38:12.88
Bill
It was, it's all worth it. We had fun. It was a fun day.

00:38:16.00
Mike
so

00:38:17.55
Bill
All right. um I'll talk about the Kentucky trip a little bit later. I went, I got a couple of, a couple of things I want to, there was one that I definitely wanted to, Oh, um, do you know, do you know where, um, I think this, don't know if this came up in a reading recently, the, the whole John barley, barley corn thing came up.

00:38:38.36
Bill
It was like in one of the readings and I looked it up.

00:38:38.77
Mike
Yeah.

00:38:40.81
Bill
Do you know where that came from?

00:38:42.49
Mike
um i Probably, but I can't think of it off top my head. i know was a traffic album. but

00:38:49.41
Bill
Um, um,

00:38:49.86
Mike
John Barleycorn Must Die. Mm-hmm.

00:38:53.26
Bill
I did not know that. Okay. So um I looked it up because I mean, after all these years, again, it was in one of our, one of our readings and um I just never, I don't know if I ever looked it up, but so we always hear this.

00:39:05.38
Bill
It's a, for again, those, those who aren't in the 12 step program, I think it's probably used more in a 12 step situation. Maybe not, maybe in other circumstances, you just said it was a fucking album.

00:39:12.10
Mike
but

00:39:14.52
Bill
So who knows? um So John Bolly, yeah. Let me start over. Take two.

00:39:20.58
Mike
All right.

00:39:21.41
Bill
John Barleycorn was a British folk song that detailed the crops used in the production of some alcoholic beverages, as well as the effects of regular alcohol consumption.

00:39:33.07
Bill
Author Jack London also published in 1914 an autobiographical... I can't fucking read... autobiographical novel called John Barley corn, which detailed his struggle with alcoholism.

00:39:44.31
Mike
Hmm.

00:39:47.23
Mike
Hmm.

00:39:47.20
Bill
As a result, the name became a way of presenting the disease of alcoholism. So I had no clue. I just know that it's, it's always, you know, it's talked about under so many circumstances and it was, that was in probably 24 hour book.

00:40:02.56
Bill
I would think.

00:40:03.33
Mike
Yeah, I think so.

00:40:04.15
Bill
Yeah, I would, I would.

00:40:04.48
Mike
Yeah. I mean, well, you know, you know, barley and corn are both used to make booze.

00:40:07.63
Bill
Right.

00:40:08.80
Mike
So yeah, I just, yeah.

00:40:09.53
Bill
Yeah.

00:40:10.73
Mike
Okay. Okay.

00:40:13.77
Bill
No, I just really, I never knew the the background of where it of where it came from. So it just, um it interests me. So I hit the old the old Google machine and figured it out.

00:40:24.19
Mike
Aha. Mm-hmm.

00:40:26.61
Bill
All right, so keep it simple. This may have been this week. I'm not sure. Today, I'll take an inventory of my actions to see if they are those of a sober person. And in parentheses, do you think your actions are always, aha, those of a sober person?

00:40:40.79
Mike
aha

00:40:42.86
Bill
So again, today, I'll take an inventory of my actions to see if they're those of a sober person. So um I don't know if you want to isolate to just today.

00:40:52.41
Bill
Were you a good boy today, Mike?

00:40:54.45
Mike
Yeah, was all right. That was all right yesterday.

00:40:57.13
Bill
yeah yeah And that's what, yeah, I mean, again, always, that's ah that's a tough statement.

00:41:02.15
Mike
Yeah,

00:41:02.57
Bill
but do i Do you think your actions are always?

00:41:02.87
Mike
I know. ah Right. I'm ah um'm all right most days. And yeah, you know, yes. um Certainly, now i would say every day the good outweighs the bad.

00:41:13.70
Bill
Right.

00:41:13.78
Mike
i Yes, absolutely. You know, always. No, of course not always. Right. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Sure.

00:41:23.95
Bill
Yeah, I know. and that's why, that's why I put that, put that statement in there because that's, that's impossible always. And, you know, fucking always and never, you know, those are, you know, two goddamn impossible statements, but yeah, you know, I like the, I actually liked the way you put that was that the you know, for most days that the good outweighs the bad night.

00:41:32.39
Mike
right

00:41:42.54
Bill
And I think, I think that the good probably outweighs the bad.

00:41:42.79
Mike
yeah

00:41:45.57
Bill
If you really, you know, tip, put it on the scale, it would tip in the positive. And, you know, most days, hopefully good, good solid.

00:41:49.73
Mike
sure No, every day.

00:41:53.13
Bill
Oh yeah.

00:41:53.27
Mike
i

00:41:53.39
Bill
Yeah.

00:41:53.67
Mike
i would say every day. Yeah, you know, um certainly in the past 10 years, probably 13, probably 14.

00:41:54.98
Bill
Right.

00:41:59.70
Bill
Right.

00:42:04.00
Mike
Yeah, definitely. You know, yes. um I am a good boy most of the time. Do I mess up? Yeah, that's why we got that fucking 10 step.

00:42:14.95
Mike
What's the word in there?

00:42:15.03
Bill
Right.

00:42:16.27
Mike
Not if, but when.

00:42:16.48
Bill
When, when we are wrong, promptly email your boss.

00:42:18.69
Mike
When.

00:42:21.76
Mike
Yep.

00:42:23.89
Bill
There you

00:42:24.03
Mike
Yes. No.

00:42:26.72
Bill
But yeah, you know, what i i think, and I come to think of that, I can think we could probably, if we hadn't, um you know, every day, if the if the good didn't outweigh the bad, I don't think, and I could be wrong, but I don't think that um either one of us or one or the both of us would have stayed sober if we had, you know, whether we could have one day, you know, even, but certainly not a handful of days.

00:42:43.16
Mike
yeah

00:42:48.37
Bill
But I think you need those, you know, those things. every day that the good has to outweigh the bad. It's not that we don't have bad moments, but I just think that's part of the deal.

00:42:54.54
Mike
Right. Yeah. I mean, you know, there's there's clearly there's a few days where it's 51% to 49%.

00:43:02.80
Bill
Right.

00:43:02.90
Mike
um Those are really fucking bad days. ah But yeah, it's not, you know, yes, it's it's probably hovering around 90% and, you know, on an average these days. And that's pretty fucking good.

00:43:18.75
Bill
Right.

00:43:19.59
Mike
Yeah, I'll take it.

00:43:19.94
Bill
Well, and, You know, and and i I can't even think, um I was just trying to think of a time, you know, since I got sober that I like really lost my shit on somebody, you know?

00:43:30.07
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:43:30.88
Bill
um And I mean, well, I guess say there's been a couple of relationship circumstances where, you know, you get, again, you get if nothing else, not necessarily an argument, but, you know, you probably don't act exactly the way that you should or say some words or whatever, but

00:43:36.24
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:43:44.29
Mike
Sure. Mm-hmm.

00:43:45.68
Bill
Um, again, 90% the time, I just can't remember. Um, I can't remember really losing my shit on anyone.

00:43:53.50
Mike
No, no. Right. Want to sometimes, but but don't.

00:43:57.01
Bill
Right.

00:43:57.69
Mike
You know, those are those, those are right. they You walk up to that edge of that cliff and that's when it's time to turn around and walk away.

00:44:05.25
Bill
Right.

00:44:05.43
Mike
You know, they and sometimes that person on the other side, they're real happy that you're walking away, but fuck them.

00:44:13.40
Bill
Right.

00:44:13.99
Mike
hey You know, if you, if I've allowed myself to be this close to the fucking edge where I'm going to lose my shit. um sure First of all, you don't want to be around me when I do.

00:44:26.52
Mike
And second of all, I don't want to be around you when I do. So yeah.

00:44:29.75
Bill
Right. Yeah.

00:44:31.53
Mike
Yeah. You know, again, taking responsibility. I'm the one who has let myself get that close, but you know, why am I allowing someone else to make me that crazy?

00:44:43.06
Bill
Right.

00:44:43.54
Mike
You know, so, yeah, you know, you're making me crazy, but I'm allowing you to make me crazy. And so let's just stop this right here. Yeah.

00:44:52.42
Bill
Yeah.

00:44:54.07
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:44:55.36
Bill
Yeah. Hey, you know what, that when as you were talking about that, I was thinking about the same thing. It is, it's a, it's that personal responsibility that, um, you know, that we, regardless of what the circumstance is and, um, we put ourselves ah in that circumstance.

00:45:07.44
Bill
Like you just, you just said that, you know, um, yeah, you're, you're making me crazy, but I, I just allowed it.

00:45:07.89
Mike
yeah yeah

00:45:13.03
Bill
Yeah. Yeah.

00:45:13.40
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:45:17.20
Mike
Yeah, nobody can make me crazy unless I let them.

00:45:17.43
Bill
yeah

00:45:20.09
Bill
Right?

00:45:20.73
Mike
Yeah.

00:45:20.72
Bill
Nobody can make me crazy. Nobody can make me drink.

00:45:21.74
Mike
since

00:45:22.68
Bill
Nobody can make me lose my shit.

00:45:23.81
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yep.

00:45:26.04
Bill
i am I am responsible for my own shit losing if that happens.

00:45:29.60
Mike
That's right.

00:45:30.96
Bill
And you know what? I almost forgot that I wrote this one down, but I, I finished up the Henry Winkler book, um which once again, I just, there was nothing, ah there was everything and nothing to talk about.

00:45:37.14
Mike
Aha.

00:45:42.35
Bill
If, if that makes sense, you know, I mean, for me to like regurgitate back out, it's, it's too much.

00:45:42.86
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right?

00:45:46.43
Mike
Yeah.

00:45:46.99
Bill
I mean, he was just, I really, um I enjoyed listening to it. I think anyone that's, that's our age or within that

00:45:52.06
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:45:55.44
Bill
Once again, that, that happy days era and just knowing anything about Henry Winkler and the different shows that I watched him in the rest the development, I've seen him in a couple of other things.

00:45:57.99
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:46:03.05
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:46:03.63
Bill
And, um, I don't know, whatever, just it's, it was good. I enjoyed the book, but the one thing that I, um, that he said that I, I made a point of writing down, he said that, um, however he heard this or came up with it or from a therapist, whatever it was, he said his, one of his mottos is to never finish a negative sentence.

00:46:23.99
Bill
Okay.

00:46:24.29
Mike
yeah

00:46:25.03
Bill
So he said if you put a period on the sentence, sooner or later becomes a paragraph and then it becomes a story and so on.

00:46:32.01
Mike
the

00:46:32.33
Bill
So he said that what he's started to do is that whatever the thing is that he's starting to do, he said um that he has to stop and say to himself, I'm not going um going to allow myself to do that.

00:46:43.21
Bill
You know, like just something as simple as... um ah I don't think I'm qualified for that job type of thing.

00:46:49.89
Mike
Right.

00:46:49.98
Bill
you know And whatever whatever the the thing is, he said, he goes i um he goes I don't allow myself to finish a negative sentence. And I thought, that is so fucking simple. Yeah.

00:47:00.17
Mike
Right.

00:47:01.37
Bill
You know, and because really, if you think about it um in what you were just talking about, it reminded me of it. That's why that's why I was searching. on my front fucking page, but I didn't see it right away. um But like you just talked about, you know, allowing somebody else basically to to get in your head and cause you to react and allowing somebody to get get in that space of yours.

00:47:18.49
Mike
hmm.

00:47:20.98
Bill
It's still your responsibility.

00:47:22.61
Mike
Yeah.

00:47:22.77
Bill
But, you know, you allowed in the negativity. So the same thing as a sentence. Why? i mean, not I'm not one of those people that is got to walk around and. You know, all, everything's a positive information.

00:47:33.76
Bill
doesn't have to be that way.

00:47:35.63
Mike
No.

00:47:36.47
Bill
I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. You know, it doesn't have to be yeah yeah like it's Stuart Smalley.

00:47:38.60
Mike
Gosh darn it. People like me.

00:47:42.61
Bill
Who would have thought, you know, again, at the last probably 10 episodes, we brought up Stuart Smalley twice.

00:47:42.83
Mike
Yep. Uh-huh.

00:47:46.99
Bill
Yeah.

00:47:47.61
Mike
Right.

00:47:48.35
Bill
Or three times, who knows? But um not that it has to be that, but the the fact that it goes back to, again, the fact I've talked about before, if I'm living in this in this cellar where I'm you know kind of a negative person to begin with, not by choice, but maybe if that's my mode and I'm always have to kind of work to, you know just like I got to work on my recovery work to be positive, um maybe I need to stop.

00:48:01.27
Mike
Right.

00:48:07.46
Mike
and says

00:48:09.57
Bill
Not that I do it all the time, but I see negative shit in my head all all the fucking time.

00:48:12.53
Mike
Oh, sure. Yeah.

00:48:15.01
Bill
You know, like, oh, I don't want fucking go here. It's going to fucking suck.

00:48:18.05
Mike
sir

00:48:18.11
Bill
You know, or this, this month is going to turn out fucking terrible. Look at where I'm at. There's no way I'm going to whatever, you know?

00:48:25.32
Mike
Right.

00:48:26.03
Bill
And again, how fucking simple? Just don't, don't let yourself ever finish a negative sentence.

00:48:32.87
Mike
Yeah.

00:48:33.55
Bill
And I'm like, it's fucking brilliant.

00:48:33.89
Mike
Nice.

00:48:35.50
Bill
Thanks, Fonzie.

00:48:36.06
Mike
Yes. Hey.

00:48:40.31
Bill
All right.

00:48:40.41
Mike
it

00:48:40.79
Bill
I, I, we can't top that one on that one. We have to take a break. We have to.

00:48:44.18
Mike
We do. All right.

00:48:45.52
Bill
yeah

00:48:45.76
Mike
Well, we will be right back with more positivity after these words from our sponsors.

00:49:01.05
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome back. You did crack me up with the A. Well, you know I actually do have some positives. this is I wasn't sure if I was going to bring this up, but now that you said positive.

00:49:13.80
Bill
You want to hear about my poop bucket?

00:49:19.02
Bill
So...

00:49:19.52
Mike
um Well, I don't know. Do I?

00:49:23.57
Bill
yeah No, it's, ah i I don't, my, my ass is not killing me. So that's the positive result. So, um but I went ahead to, you know, I did the whole thing and it's, it's, it's weird, but it's,

00:49:28.44
Mike
Okay.

00:49:32.14
Mike
Do you shit in a box? Uh-huh.

00:49:33.77
Bill
It's well, it's, it's in a container that you put in the box.

00:49:37.82
Mike
Ah.

00:49:37.79
Bill
So in the, the easy answer is yes.

00:49:39.09
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:49:41.84
Bill
Okay. The easy answer is yes. So, you know, emailing this, I was just gonna say you mail the shit off, which literally you mail the shit off.

00:49:47.41
Mike
Yes, you do.

00:49:48.75
Bill
um yeah Okay. I ah swear to God, and I didn't do this because I didn't have the balls to do And I should have, um I can't believe I didn't do it, but I, it was on a Sunday when I dropped it off a couple of weeks ago. And you know, it said it's, it's UPS.

00:49:59.29
Mike
Did you put a bow on it?

00:50:00.97
Bill
No, but it's UPS. I mean, they have to know us because this this company, this company, Kologard, literally they...

00:50:04.12
Mike
Right. What can Brown do for you?

00:50:14.87
Bill
That's so dumb.

00:50:16.58
Mike
Thank you.

00:50:16.91
Bill
It's so fucking stupid. ah But I can't stop laughing. Okay, yes. Yes, what? Well, and that's God. Why why wouldn't they have the contract with Kologar? That's just Jesus Christ.

00:50:26.53
Mike
Why not? Yes.

00:50:28.37
Bill
Why are you driving a truck? why aren

00:50:29.38
Mike
Synergy. Hmm.

00:50:30.82
Bill
Why aren't you a marketing a marketing executive?

00:50:33.35
Mike
Hmm. Hmm.

00:50:34.51
Bill
yeah Okay. So, so anyhow, so, I mean, clearly they, they, they, they know what it is. They, they have to have the exclusive contract with sending these things back.

00:50:41.53
Mike
Sure.

00:50:42.18
Bill
So they get these boxes. So i'm thinking about as I'm driving it, I'm like, you know, wanting to walk in there and be like, Hey, I just got to drop some shit off. I got to mail some shit, you know, whatever. I guess I want to be fucking funny, but I'm like, I can't, it's just one individual.

00:50:54.16
Bill
This, I mean, she, and she seemed really nice and she's nobody else.

00:50:54.49
Mike
Dump.

00:50:57.31
Bill
Nobody else in the store at the time. Again, it's a Sunday afternoon at, you know, probably, I don't know, one o'clock in the afternoon. Um, so I didn't, I didn't dump my, no, I didn't dump, dump my, hair I didn't, I didn't.

00:51:05.05
Mike
no stick um

00:51:09.24
Mike
all

00:51:11.34
Bill
Yes. I didn't shit out my, my, my stick to her.

00:51:12.24
Mike
Yes. Right. Bing.

00:51:15.27
Bill
Um, but anyhow, so then, then like, oh, you know, you get the things like, uh, with a couple of weeks, you get the results. And I'm like, I didn't know, I didn't know if they were going to just send them to, you know, the provider, they got to call me. I didn't know what the deal was after that.

00:51:27.10
Bill
So I think it was, um, I'm pretty sure cause I left like at five 30 in the morning last Friday to go down to Kentucky.

00:51:34.36
Mike
right

00:51:34.44
Bill
Um, and I think I was doing my readings at the time that the email came in. So, you know, whatever time it was, you know, I mean, fucking, yeah, it's, you know, fucking four in the morning.

00:51:40.44
Mike
b

00:51:42.84
Bill
I get a, you know, this thing, it's like, Oh, your test results are in. And I'll be honest. I mean, you're just sitting here by yourself, you know, at fucking four o'clock in the morning. And I'm like, Jesus Christ, I wasn't nervous. But then like, well, OK, whatever it is.

00:51:58.12
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:51:58.60
Bill
you know, you open it up. It's like, oh, you know, test for negative. And then it goes through this long thing about what negative means. I'm like, it's all I needed was this negative.

00:52:03.82
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:52:05.60
Bill
um But saying that, do you know, again, percentage-wise, because they can't say that you'll never have, you know, fucking ass cancer.

00:52:09.85
Mike
Oh, yeah. Right.

00:52:11.31
Bill
I mean, you can't say that.

00:52:12.84
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:52:12.92
Bill
um you' It's not like, oh, yes, your ass will never kill you. You'll be fine forever.

00:52:17.15
Mike
Clean as a whistle.

00:52:17.30
Bill
You know, but...

00:52:18.07
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:52:22.56
Bill
Not according to my doctor, because I couldn't have the runoff from my anus into my wound. So here apparently I wasn't clean as a whistle.

00:52:27.16
Mike
Ah, yes.

00:52:30.88
Bill
Why would he know?

00:52:31.22
Mike
Mmm.

00:52:31.40
Bill
He didn't look. How does he know? Does he know?

00:52:32.93
Mike
How does he know? Do you do a taste test?

00:52:37.01
Bill
He didn't even look at my ass.

00:52:38.87
Mike
yeah

00:52:40.00
Bill
He'd go to the wound doctor. He's like, nice wound. Okay, by the way, let me see your anus.

00:52:42.99
Mike
Great.

00:52:43.98
Bill
um Doc? Yeah. But anyhow, so yeah, so I mean, it's all, you know, and then, so I look at the results, um you know, fine, you know, then I get this, I've gotten, I swear, no less than probably 10 text messages from these automated text messages from the doctor's office saying, you know, you got test results, take a look at your test results.

00:52:53.55
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:53:04.97
Mike
Yeah.

00:53:04.96
Bill
And it's like to log into some account through the the hospital or the clinic.

00:53:05.15
Mike
Right.

00:53:08.86
Bill
I'm like, I don't have an account through them. This went through, um i don't know, like doctor on demand, whatever it was. It was something I was already a member of through whatever.

00:53:17.06
Mike
yeah

00:53:17.21
Bill
Um, so, I mean, all I had to do was reset my password. I got in and got my results. Um, but you know, I mean, obviously didn't hear from the provider or anything like that. The doctor by the doctor that I went into, but, um, but yeah, I mean, that's, that's as easy as was, it was, you know, literally shit in a box, you know, throw some schtick at the UPS.

00:53:33.68
Bill
What will Brown do for me?

00:53:34.43
Mike
right

00:53:34.88
Bill
They sent my, my results off and they're like, yeah, oh yeah, by the way, your, your ass is fine. And I'm like, well, thank you.

00:53:41.31
Mike
ah

00:53:41.30
Bill
Thank you very much. But anyhow, so this could be our public service announcement. I don't think we've ever done one um in 177 episodes, but um I don't know, gentlemen, ladies, whatever age you are, get your ass checked.

00:53:50.13
Mike
No.

00:53:53.22
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:53:54.81
Bill
If nothing else, you can do it in the comfort of your own home. I think if it doesn't run in your family, that's what the that's what the lady told me, that the doctor told me.

00:54:02.26
Mike
Right.

00:54:02.89
Bill
you know She's like, yeah, you could just do the poop in the box thing. She didn't say that. but

00:54:06.88
Mike
Right.

00:54:08.23
Bill
But I didn't have to go and get you know get a tube shoved up my ass again because I'd had one of those before.

00:54:11.82
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

00:54:13.20
Bill
um And that was hell was just for fun. That

00:54:17.28
Mike
right Yeah, recreational.

00:54:20.49
Bill
was years ago before I had my stomach surgery. Did I ever tell you that story?

00:54:23.99
Mike
and I don't want to hear it.

00:54:24.53
Bill
yeah Okay. No, it's just it it was it was a funny part to it. But that's okay. Fine. no every every Everyone else, you can email me. I'll share the story with you.

00:54:33.57
Mike
Right.

00:54:35.46
Bill
All right. so But, yeah, it's just kind of...

00:54:36.66
Mike
Bill at SoberNotMature.com.

00:54:39.81
Bill
It's info, info at. Yeah, I wonder if if you did email Bill at if it would get to us. But I don't know. We only have a we have an info address, but I think everything else. Who knows?

00:54:50.69
Bill
You want to hear about it? Fuck you. I just somebody made a comment to me and the nurse made a comment. and I got a laugh out of it. So. All right. um Hang on one second here.

00:55:00.88
Bill
I'll talk about the Kentucky thing in just a little bit. I got one more thing here.

00:55:03.12
Mike
is speaking of assplay

00:55:06.91
Bill
no i got I get out of Kentucky without getting my ass played with.

00:55:10.55
Mike
Ah, I'm sorry.

00:55:10.81
Bill
yeah um All right. So from keep it simple, am I fully using my strength, my mind and my talents?

00:55:19.57
Mike
Hmm.

00:55:19.65
Bill
I will list one way that I can do this better in this again, not that it matters when it came from, but I don't think this was recent.

00:55:23.73
Mike
Hmm.

00:55:27.67
Bill
But do you think about that at all? I mean, if you're using your your strength, your mind and your talents the best way possible or, you know, areas where you think you might be able to improve.

00:55:35.24
Mike
Hmm.

00:55:37.00
Bill
I mean, do you think about that? don't know.

00:55:38.71
Mike
i No, I don't. I don't because then I'd be depressed. um

00:55:45.02
Bill
ah

00:55:46.06
Mike
he

00:55:46.99
Bill
yeah hello

00:55:48.25
Mike
Yeah, right. You know, I'm doing what I'm doing. It's, you know, and I'm doing what I'm doing the best I can mostly. And yes, could I be better? Of course I could. Do I want to be better?

00:55:58.54
Mike
no um Yeah, you know, i yeah Jesus.

00:56:00.75
Bill
Right. yeah

00:56:04.77
Mike
I'm just trying to get through this thing, man. You know, I mean, I know I wasted tons and tons of time and a huge chunk of my life. And i'm trying I'm not trying to do that anymore. I'm trying not to do that anymore.

00:56:19.09
Mike
um But yes, am i am I trying to be the absolute best I could be? No, I'm old and I'm tired. I just... It's the honest truth, man.

00:56:31.47
Mike
I, you know, yes, I could do better.

00:56:31.69
Bill
Right.

00:56:33.75
Mike
Do I want to do better? Not really. No, um I'm just trying to get through, man.

00:56:36.02
Bill
Right.

00:56:38.03
Mike
You know, just trying to get through this fucking thing and lay down and be done with it.

00:56:44.84
Bill
Well, in and you know what? um I actually agree with you when you when you said no. um

00:56:50.51
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:56:50.53
Bill
I mean, I agree with you. And I couldn't read because it doesn't matter why why I wrote it down. If I really thought it was something to think about or if I thought the way that you did, possibly as you started talking about it, I agree with you on that.

00:57:03.08
Bill
Because, you know, um I don't know.

00:57:03.43
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:57:05.69
Bill
We've been talking about or it's been brought up a couple of times. We have people on talking about therapy and all those different things.

00:57:10.61
Mike
Right.

00:57:11.26
Bill
um And that is, I truly believe that um I'm sure, i I cannot, I can't deny the fact that there's got to be some shit inside of me that might need to be talked about.

00:57:23.32
Bill
Who knows? I don't know.

00:57:23.80
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:57:24.77
Bill
But it's nothing that... But it's nothing that's glaring right now. Like I said, you know, I'm sitting in a boat in ah on a pond.

00:57:29.81
Mike
Yeah.

00:57:31.30
Bill
There's no not a fucking ripple on the water, you know, which is not really true.

00:57:34.27
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:57:36.30
Bill
But it is, you know, I've got life going on around me.

00:57:36.73
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:57:39.46
Bill
But I mean, I i don't have anything going on around me right now that that I think is out of the ordinary compared to whatever we want to call normal people.

00:57:45.17
Mike
Right.

00:57:48.51
Bill
OK, so um I think everything's cool, you know, but, you know, if I sat back and like, OK, what can I do to make myself better?

00:57:48.81
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:57:58.05
Bill
Like you said, I mean, maybe I'd be depressed.

00:58:00.81
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:58:00.85
Bill
yeah um I mean, ah i i say it my lead. A lot of people say it in their leads, you know, what do I do today? Not enough. I mean, I know I don't do. There's always more I could do from a recovery standpoint.

00:58:12.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:58:12.77
Bill
There's probably more I could do for maybe even my family and my friends and whatever.

00:58:12.91
Mike
Sure.

00:58:16.74
Bill
But the key here is like you and I talk about, um did we hurt anyone today?

00:58:17.01
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:58:23.40
Bill
You know, um did we do anything that um maybe we didn't apologize for?

00:58:23.51
Mike
Right.

00:58:27.79
Bill
That's what our 10 step is for or having to yeah get circled back with an email to our boss.

00:58:28.18
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right.

00:58:33.25
Mike
Right.

00:58:33.21
Bill
Um, but those are the sort of things that, that really makes sense. So do I really want to fucking sit down and try to figure out how can I be a better person? If I know for a fact, I'm not the best person in the world that much I know.

00:58:47.26
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:58:48.01
Bill
Um, but I'm not not hurting anyone today. And I think.

00:58:50.44
Mike
Right.

00:58:51.38
Bill
think I'm possibly, probably a positive influence, at least a positive, God, how do I put this? A positive glow on people. And I don't mean that in a fucking weird way.

00:59:01.63
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:59:02.86
Bill
um i'm I'm doing things that bring out positive to people rather than negative. Does that make sense?

00:59:07.96
Mike
Yes. but Totally.

00:59:10.14
Bill
Okay.

00:59:10.79
Mike
Yes.

00:59:10.82
Bill
Okay.

00:59:11.70
Mike
Yeah.

00:59:12.32
Bill
When I said glow, of like I was like, I'm so, oh that's not me.

00:59:15.24
Mike
Yeah.

00:59:17.19
Bill
That's not what I meant.

00:59:17.65
Mike
No. Right. My lightning aura. um

00:59:22.11
Bill
yeah

00:59:22.77
Mike
Right. You know, Xen, you know, am I being, the but you know, kids can I fucking go back to school and, you know, improve and be, but you know, fuck, no, I'm not doing any of that shit.

00:59:33.36
Bill
Right.

00:59:35.11
Mike
I'm old. I'm tired.

00:59:37.09
Bill
Right. Yeah. I mean, literally I, I want to do less, right. I mean, this is the honest to God's truth.

00:59:41.62
Mike
Yeah.

00:59:42.43
Bill
I want to do less and either make the same amount of money or more, but I, I want to, I want to have, I want to have less responsibility and I want to put forth less stress and less effort.

00:59:46.03
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:59:49.76
Mike
ye Yeah.

00:59:53.25
Bill
And that's the only thing that like right now with this, this job that I have, even though the ups and downs like that, I mean, I've, I've been around this fucking industry for 30 plus years, you know, um, I understand it.

01:00:01.58
Mike
Right.

01:00:03.26
Bill
And, Um, it, I, it, it does get stressful that the constant it's competition in my mind, if nothing else with myself more than anything else. And, um, there is a certain part of me at this time in my life where I just, I don't want, I don't want to chase this shit anymore.

01:00:18.01
Bill
You know, I just don't, I don't want to do that.

01:00:18.75
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:00:20.02
Bill
Okay. But it's not terrible. You know, um, if there's something I could do that would have, um, and I mentioned this before, maybe have, I don't know, I felt better about, you know, something that made more of a, I don't know, I, an impact. I don't even thought that's the right way to put it.

01:00:33.59
Bill
Would I do something else that could be less stressful that maybe gives me more of a reward? I don't know. you know um But one way or the other, I mean, like to your point, do i i I could go out tomorrow and I know for a fucking fact I can get a management position. I know I can.

01:00:49.12
Bill
I don't know what it what it would be or where i would be, um but um maybe I could make more money, probably.

01:00:49.20
Mike
Right.

01:00:56.70
Mike
ah

01:00:56.73
Bill
um Maybe I could be fully remote because there's a lot of managers and supervisors these days that are. But you know what? that's gonna Then I got to carry around my you know my this fucking work baggage with me all the time.

01:01:09.20
Mike
Right.

01:01:09.50
Bill
I like the fact that when I'm fucking done with work, I'm done. Yeah.

01:01:13.26
Mike
Right.

01:01:14.70
Bill
It that's it. I don't worry about getting emails from people if I could text messages I don't have to work late and i have to start early To the contrary, i'm not allowed to Yeah, yeah so um

01:01:16.46
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:01:21.20
Mike
Yeah.

01:01:24.57
Mike
Right. Exactly. Yeah.

01:01:29.36
Mike
Right, yeah, i just same with, yeah, right, like me too, you know, I mean, I could go, you know, be an Uber driver, except I can't, because that's, you know, being a professional driver, that's the fire my ass if they find out I'm doing it.

01:01:41.95
Bill
Really

01:01:42.12
Mike
um Oh, yeah, yeah, that's that's a big one, you know, I mean, yes, I could get off work and go work some more doing something else. There's no fucking way I'm doing that.

01:01:52.52
Bill
Right. Right. Right.

01:01:54.16
Mike
Yeah. You know, I could go back over the road and make more money, but then I wouldn't be home every night. I wouldn't have, you know, enjoy my fucking life. Um, you know, not, I mean, I'm still doing, you know, 10, 12, sometimes 14 hour days, sometimes eight, you know, occasionally a seven in there once in a while had one earlier this week.

01:02:12.93
Mike
That was nice.

01:02:12.98
Bill
right

01:02:13.94
Mike
um Yeah, you know, but I mean, I work 10 hours a day. um You know, no lunch break. I don't i'll take an hour for lunch. I don't take a lunch at all. I work for fucking 10 hours.

01:02:25.44
Mike
um

01:02:25.52
Bill
Right right

01:02:26.21
Mike
Yeah, you know, again, I could and I could work more. I don't want to. I'm fine. You know, my bills are paid. and

01:02:36.43
Mike
You know, i'm I'm not losing any weight. I'm okay. Okay.

01:02:41.80
Bill
Yeah, no, i I agree. I don't even know what what was the question again. I remember how we even got a Was that what it was

01:02:45.08
Mike
I don't know. Could could we be better? ah No. don't know. No. no

01:02:51.40
Bill
Yeah. Am I using my, am I using my strength, my mind and my talents?

01:02:51.61
Mike
Yes. Right.

01:02:55.74
Bill
Okay. Yeah.

01:02:56.05
Mike
Yes. No.

01:02:56.83
Bill
um

01:02:58.99
Mike
But that's a choice.

01:02:59.13
Bill
No, but yeah, no, but I don't care.

01:03:01.74
Mike
Right.

01:03:01.71
Bill
don't care. I just say, I want to, I want to do less. And seriously, I wish there was, I wish there was a way that I could, ah you know, and this would be like anything else. I mean, I, and I got nothing to complain about a friend of mine on Instagram. I don't know remember what we were, we messaged about something and,

01:03:15.79
Bill
whatever. she's like, she's like, yeah, I just ah told a friend of mine um what, you know, what you get to do, the fact that you work remote and go different places. And, you know, the person's like, yeah, it's kind of cool. And I said, you know what? I said, here's the problem.

01:03:26.68
Bill
I said, I still complain every once in a while because I can't do it more, um which is fucking stupid.

01:03:29.77
Mike
h

01:03:31.62
Bill
um But I said, but, you know, I am. I am grateful for what I'm able to do in the position that I'm in.

01:03:37.39
Mike
Right.

01:03:37.45
Bill
um I mean, yeah, would I want, would I like to do more? Of course I would. But um again, this, this patience, I waited, you know, it took five years to get to the point to do it. um I've been doing it for a year and i don't know, year and a couple of months and already, I mean, I've seen more shit in the last year and a half than I saw, than I've seen all of my adult life.

01:03:50.45
Mike
Right.

01:03:56.53
Mike
Right.

01:03:57.11
Bill
I mean, and that's a fucking fact, you know, we never went on vacations across the country or anything like that.

01:03:58.99
Mike
Right.

01:04:03.02
Bill
I don't begrudge our family or our parents or anything like that.

01:04:06.16
Mike
Right.

01:04:06.67
Bill
We did things. We did camping. We went and saw family. We did, you know, went to amusement parks. I mean, I've been to, um you know, I've been to Niagara Falls a couple of times. We went to reunions, upstate New York, these sort of things, you know.

01:04:18.16
Bill
um I just didn't get to go to all the places that I've been. So, I mean, seriously, yet when I think about i'm like, I got nothing to fucking complain about. You know, plus if I, if I did, if I pushed it too much now, then, you know, like you said, my bills are paid.

01:04:30.70
Bill
Well, they wouldn't be, you know,

01:04:32.07
Mike
Right. Yeah, exactly. Back to the hookers and blow.

01:04:37.26
Bill
right. It's always, it always goes back to hookers and blow hookers and blow.

01:04:38.05
Mike
Yep. he ah

01:04:42.25
Bill
Huh? Yeah. yeah ah yeah I think I told you this before probably is that when it was happening, but right after, right after we got sober those first few years, that's when, you know, Derek had his braces and stuff like that.

01:04:56.44
Bill
And, um you know, I would get, you know, when I started to make decent money and, you know, obviously my bills were still relatively um intact and and all that stuff and it's getting decent tax return or tax refunds or whatever.

01:04:56.57
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:05:04.18
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:05:08.16
Bill
And, um whatever it was, it was like three years in a row. um You know, that I remember Dawn either calling me or, you know, the one time she sent me an email, I think she called me the first time when he was first getting braces.

01:05:19.39
Bill
She's like, this is what it's going to be, but this is how they'll do it.

01:05:19.45
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:05:22.13
Bill
um You know, we each got to come up with and whatever it was, it was, you know, four or five, 600 bucks a piece. And,

01:05:26.41
Mike
Right.

01:05:26.73
Bill
I said, you know what? I said, it's kind of funny. I'm like, I i just, I just filed my tax return week ago. I'm like, I'd get a refund. I should have it within like seven days.

01:05:35.69
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:05:36.00
Bill
um She's like, oh yeah, his appointment's not for another two weeks. I'm like, perfect. And it happened. It was just every year for like three years or four years. It was around, you know, tax time like that. And as it was coming up and you i I ended up, um there was like one, because again, and I've said this before, and i'm I'm only saying this for one reason. I did it because I owed, you know.

01:05:56.33
Mike
Sure.

01:05:56.52
Bill
um She never asked for it, but I paid the entire amount one year, whatever this lump sum thing was, um because I owed. You know, i I owed because of all the things that that she did and all the money she spent on him and never asked me for a dime or I'd chip in here and there.

01:06:11.41
Mike
Right.

01:06:12.55
Bill
um It doesn't matter to the justification. I did it not to not for kudos or anything like that, just because it was an obligation.

01:06:17.22
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:06:18.84
Bill
But she thanked me for It yeah.

01:06:19.27
Mike
It's the right thing to do. Right.

01:06:20.60
Bill
it was yeah

01:06:21.44
Mike
Yeah.

01:06:22.47
Bill
And, uh, but I remember calling her like, uh, the one year and I said, I said, Oh, I said, I just got my tax, my tax refund. And I'm like, you've got anything you need money for. I said, you better, better take it before I spend it on.

01:06:31.19
Mike
a Now's the time.

01:06:33.96
Bill
Yeah. Like you better take it before I spend it on hookers and blow. And you know, she laughed the first year. And then after like year three, year three, she's like, she's like, Oh, you know, I, okay.

01:06:39.66
Mike
Really? Yep.

01:06:42.99
Bill
Got my tax refund. and she's like, I know hookers and blow. Yeah. Everything's good. She's like, go, go have fun. And I'm like, you know, really?

01:06:49.07
Mike
right

01:06:49.86
Bill
Like, there's nothing?

01:06:49.94
Mike
really oh

01:06:50.76
Bill
this There's nothing? yeah But yeah, she got, again, my shtick. She didn't necessarily, she just knew it was coming. You know, it was semi-predictable.

01:06:56.91
Mike
ye

01:06:58.48
Bill
So, semi-predictable. All right. So um God grant me from God knows when um it was talking about making friends in early recovery.

01:07:09.37
Mike
ah

01:07:09.52
Bill
And my question was, was that a concern for you when we first got sober, you know, figuring out what type of friends you would have? I've got a second question in there, but that one first. Were you, was that even on your mind about, you know, making friends or what type of friends?

01:07:23.90
Bill
Yeah.

01:07:24.36
Mike
No. No.

01:07:25.37
Bill
hu

01:07:26.16
Mike
Still not. No. a

01:07:27.68
Bill
Yeah, no, I, I know. It's just, i mean, to, to this day, I don't care. i mean, people, I get along with who I get along with type of thing. You know, um, I don't look for a specific group of people.

01:07:37.32
Mike
no

01:07:37.48
Bill
Um, I just didn't know about to begin with. I didn't either. I mean, I knew the people I couldn't hang out with, you know, right.

01:07:42.12
Mike
Well, yeah, right. Exactly. Yeah. And it's, I mean, it's the same as, you know, kind of before the disease really took hold of me, um you know, like in high school, right?

01:07:52.47
Mike
I mean, I hung out with all the groups, you know, not jocks too much, but sort but certainly the girls that hung out with jocks.

01:07:55.27
Bill
Right.

01:08:00.88
Mike
um and you know yeah you know and band and art and choir and you know nerds and but stoners and you know i hung i had groups in every you know i hung out with everybody man you know but but again it's it's kind of you know two kinds of music good and bad two kinds of people good and bad

01:08:00.97
Bill
right

01:08:15.97
Bill
right

01:08:23.25
Bill
right

01:08:23.65
Mike
Um, yeah, I don't, I don't give a fuck. And that's kind of how it's always been. So I, I sort of got back to that, um, you know, and sobriety, it's like, I don't give a fuck, you know, what your background is. Well, clearly, you know, take a look at the two of us.

01:08:36.48
Bill
Right.

01:08:36.58
Mike
Um, yeah, you know, it's just, I want to hang out with people that are, that are decent and, you know, I'm not going to cause any trouble and they're not going to cause any trouble.

01:08:46.57
Bill
Right.

01:08:47.38
Mike
Nope.

01:08:47.62
Bill
yeah Well, and it was funny when you were when you were saying that the different groups of people, I'm like that. That's literally the the mix of people that um that we have as friends. You know, I mean, I can't I can't really label every person in our group of where they're what their background is.

01:08:56.44
Mike
Yeah, right.

01:09:00.74
Bill
But, you know, you figure that the people that we either have as friends or have had, you know, as is decent acquaintances and friends over the years.

01:09:01.15
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:09:09.23
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:09:09.23
Bill
um I mean, that's what it is and in this whole thing. You know, we have we have this alcoholic drug addict thing in common.

01:09:16.43
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:09:16.53
Bill
And you just said it, you know, you and I are a great example of that. We've said it before. No way in the world we ever would have met, you know, or whoever would have gotten along, let alone, you know, ever met.

01:09:25.28
Mike
Right.

01:09:26.43
Bill
um But then, you know, i mean, if you look at, um I don't know, all of our friends, I mean, I suppose if we were sitting around in a group, maybe we look like we belong together. Maybe we don't.

01:09:34.67
Mike
a

01:09:35.34
Bill
I don't really probably, probably not, but I don't, I don't even, i don't even, I never even pay attention to it anymore.

01:09:37.66
Mike
No. Yeah, right. It's not a consideration.

01:09:42.45
Bill
Right.

01:09:42.60
Mike
Yeah.

01:09:43.84
Bill
Right. Well, that was it. I'm weird. I don't know. We had a guest on the one time where we were talking to somebody about something and we started talking about the female friends and um I had to sit back and think, I'm like, Like, God, yeah, we do have a lot of female sober friends.

01:09:56.85
Mike
Right.

01:09:56.96
Bill
And then, you know, like that thinking about people with different, you know, lifestyles.

01:09:57.15
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:10:00.89
Bill
I'm like, we've got a lot of friends with a lot of different mixed lifestyles, which I never think about until I think about, you know.

01:10:04.78
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Right.

01:10:09.00
Bill
mean, don't give a fuck, but it just, when it's like somebody asks a question, you're like, yeah, well, I guess there's a lot.

01:10:10.23
Mike
Yeah, exactly.

01:10:14.80
Bill
We got a lot of chicks in our group. yeah

01:10:16.81
Mike
Right.

01:10:17.14
Bill
fuck Fucking, fucking badasses is what they are. But, um, you know, and again, a lot of just mixes backgrounds and all that stuff.

01:10:19.72
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:10:22.78
Bill
But yeah, it just made me think about that. That is literally, um, how it is these days. And I just didn't know if, um, I didn't think about the friend thing to begin with.

01:10:33.16
Bill
It never, literally never even crossed my mind.

01:10:33.82
Mike
Yeah.

01:10:35.24
Bill
i just didn't know if, uh, if it did more with you at all, or,

01:10:35.44
Mike
No.

01:10:38.38
Mike
No, not at all.

01:10:39.05
Bill
Clearly not.

01:10:40.46
Mike
Nope.

01:10:41.39
Bill
Not at all, which is, yeah, that's pretty much about how it was. Okay. All right. So um I just got to tell you these couple of things about Kentucky. First of all, um it's, I know you've been through Kentucky.

01:10:54.33
Bill
you spent any time around any, just ah with driving through, except for driving through in general?

01:10:54.50
Mike
Sure.

01:10:59.69
Mike
I mean, but yeah, you know, I spent quite a bit of time down there, you know, working.

01:11:00.06
Bill
No?

01:11:06.42
Bill
Okay.

01:11:07.04
Mike
Yeah.

01:11:07.74
Bill
Yeah. I mean, it's, ah um I've driven through, um I know, you know, obviously going to places I've been. um I mean, it's, it's beautiful. um

01:11:14.67
Mike
Yeah.

01:11:15.57
Bill
And it's, so I mean, I, the people I ran across, everything was nice. Lots of mullets, um lots of, lots lots of dudes with mullets and either dirty or no, no t-shirts on or anything like that.

01:11:28.34
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:11:28.30
Bill
um lot of, lot of pickup trucks, you know, which again, I run into in a lot of areas, but

01:11:30.39
Mike
Yeah.

01:11:32.89
Bill
So this, the road that I, um that this place was on, first of all, this place was, it was wonderful.

01:11:38.46
Mike
yeah

01:11:38.49
Bill
um I mean, really, it was really nice. um Kind of just a, just a nice setup and right across the street from the Creek and very quiet. The thing of it is that it it freaked me out the first time when they came through, cause I was actually in the house.

01:11:51.55
Bill
I'm like, what the fuck is that?

01:11:51.71
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:11:52.73
Bill
It's like, you're like who i'm running, like shit running through. Cause I was there for like, Three hours and no, not even fucking nothing came through, no cars, no nothing.

01:12:01.25
Mike
Right.

01:12:02.42
Bill
And what it was, it was, um, you know, these big, um, literally like, um, uh, car size dune buggy shit. I mean, um you know what I mean?

01:12:08.13
Mike
Yeah.

01:12:08.94
Bill
With the roll bar, roll cages and everything.

01:12:09.01
Mike
Right. huh.

01:12:11.21
Bill
And it's like four of them would ride through, you know, on the road, just buzzing down the road.

01:12:15.52
Mike
Right.

01:12:15.70
Bill
And I'm like, and then you'd see other ones that, you know, i was only there for basically a two and a half days or a day and a half. I'm sorry. um you know So they must rent them somewhere around there. And there's got to be trails that people go on.

01:12:26.06
Bill
But yeah, they buzzed up and down there because it looked like it looked like tourists, not locals, I guess is the best way to put it.

01:12:30.60
Mike
Mm-hmm. So they had shirts on? Mm-hmm.

01:12:33.35
Bill
yeah Yeah, they had their had clothing on.

01:12:34.26
Mike
Right.

01:12:35.86
Bill
Yeah. Clothing on no mullets and all that sort of stuff. But, um you know, but this road, it's like when you come off like one of the main ish roads getting down in there, um you know, take a left on there and then it's a good three miles in until you got to the place.

01:12:49.47
Bill
And, you know, she gave me a heads up as far as, you know, that might be hard to find. And it pinned it. Google pinned did it at a certain place. And I always do a street view to wherever I'm going to kind of get in a rough sense of an area.

01:12:59.47
Mike
Right.

01:13:00.65
Bill
And I couldn't see the place. And then when she did the pin, which was Apple, so I couldn't map it exactly because it's an Apple pin.

01:13:08.00
Mike
Uh-huh. Mm-hmm.

01:13:08.12
Bill
um But I saw roughly a landmark on there. So what I did, I just hit street view and cruised up the road and figured out where it was. I'm like, all I got to do is keep going another half a mile. And there it is. So I didn't have any issue finding it.

01:13:20.37
Bill
um But then going the other direction. So when I went to the the place that I went to, the trails and stuff like that, that Red River Gorge, I had to go out the other way. So it's basically the road that I was on is about six miles long with just you know basically main exits on either end of these six miles.

01:13:37.02
Bill
you know You can see some side roads kick around here and there, but I don't know where the fuck they go.

01:13:40.95
Mike
You don't want to

01:13:40.96
Bill
um But I mean, it just, yeah, exactly. I'm like, you know, and it was, I mean, a couple of, um I'd say, same as a lot of the other areas that I've been to, you know, you see some mobile homes, you see a couple of rundown things here, you see a decent house here and there.

01:13:54.90
Bill
Wasn't a bad area. I it never felt unsafe or anything like that. um But it was funny when I was going either out or back to Red River Gorge, a lot of people on four wheelers, you know, and this, you know, again, these, you know, fucking dudes with their, you know, mullets and their either, you know, dirty t-shirts or whatever cruising down their road on their four wheelers.

01:14:04.43
Mike
Right.

01:14:13.10
Bill
And then coming out when I left, it was, you know, mapping me out because again, there's only two ways out of here, right? um Maps Beyond has me take a right whatever. And I end up in like this. It seemed like this, you know, kind of take a left on this road. I'm like, where the fuck is this maps taking me?

01:14:27.71
Mike
Right.

01:14:27.80
Bill
And again, I'm right behind this fucking dude and with no shirt and fucking four-wheeler. And I'm like, oh, fuck. Just let me through. I'm like, I don't know who you are and what you're doing. oh good It's got a buzz it on through.

01:14:39.90
Bill
um But it was it was really it was nice. I would love to go back down there because the place that I went, um I mean, I really only had time. I mean, I hit, you know, like two trails and I probably walked seven miles, you know, on these two trails.

01:14:54.04
Bill
Um, but I only had Saturday, you know?

01:14:56.98
Mike
right

01:14:57.17
Bill
Um, but, uh, it was, it was nice, but I mean, they, they weren't really, they, they weren't kidding when they set out in the middle of nowhere. Like one time when I was going out, I mean, I run across like this little fucking rundown gas station or something like that.

01:15:03.62
Mike
Right.

01:15:09.37
Bill
You weren't close to like any towns or anything like that that had anything of any substance.

01:15:11.67
Mike
Yeah.

01:15:13.86
Bill
Um, Um, but, oh yeah, no cell phone service where I was, you know, but obviously you got wifi, you know, in the, in the house, but, uh, it was, I had a great, I had a great time.

01:15:20.80
Mike
Right.

01:15:23.33
Bill
Um, but yeah, it just kind of cracked me up with the ah fucking four wheelers. And yeah, it was, I'm like, okay, yeah, you can see this is, this is Kentucky. This is absolutely Kentucky.

01:15:32.25
Mike
Yes, it is.

01:15:34.13
Bill
Um, last quick question. We were talking about, uh, truck stops and all this shit a while ago.

01:15:39.03
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:15:39.45
Bill
Did we, did we talk about Bucky's? Have you ever been to one?

01:15:42.26
Mike
I've never been to a Buc-ee's.

01:15:44.02
Bill
Okay. And um i I run past them every once in a while. it's I want to stop just to see if they're supposed to be just, you know, huge, you know, huge and kind of like the the world's largest truck stop type of thing, you know.

01:15:51.21
Mike
Right.

01:15:55.54
Bill
But when I was coming back, I think this was in like southern Illinois.

01:15:55.99
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:16:01.17
Bill
I swear to God, there because there's a Buc-ee's off the beyond the east side of the street, whatever highway was coming up.

01:16:01.28
Mike
Right.

01:16:07.60
Bill
Um, there were people, getting off the exit and it looked like, um, like sometimes you see traffic backed up trying to get into like six flags, like great America.

01:16:15.99
Mike
Right?

01:16:16.40
Bill
Um, that's what it looked like. I'm like, are you fucking kidding me?

01:16:19.24
Mike
ah

01:16:20.32
Bill
I'm like, that's ridiculous. I, I, I just want to drive in. may, maybe I'll grab some gas, maybe just walk around or whatever.

01:16:26.34
Mike
Right?

01:16:26.48
Bill
Um, but I just, I wasn't sure if you would, you would ever been to one. So, okay.

01:16:29.84
Mike
Have not.

01:16:31.46
Bill
All right. So, um, do you want one more sobriety thing or do you want to dip into, I've got, I've got a couple of articles that I ran across. do you want to do one more sobriety thing or just mindless?

01:16:38.55
Mike
Let's do another sobriety thing.

01:16:40.85
Bill
Okay. Um, hang on. Which one was I talking about?

01:16:44.80
Mike
he he he.

01:16:45.81
Bill
Uh, Oh yeah. Touchstones. Okay.

01:16:49.24
Mike
Uh

01:16:49.80
Bill
As long as you keep a person down, some part of you has to be down there to hold him down. So it means you cannot soar as long as you otherwise might. Okay.

01:16:59.83
Mike
huh.

01:17:00.43
Bill
So this went into a talk about ah resentments and it was my, my side note was obviously to, you know, kind of have a talk about, about resentments, but um number one, the, the first part about the the statement, as long when you keep a person down, part of you has to be down there. Do you agree with that?

01:17:15.82
Mike
Oh yeah, absolutely. Right. I mean, yeah, you have to be to keep something down. You have to part of you you has to be holding it down, which means part of you is down there.

01:17:25.08
Bill
Right.

01:17:27.69
Mike
Yeah.

01:17:27.88
Bill
yeah

01:17:28.40
Mike
say That's just basic physics, man.

01:17:32.16
Bill
Yeah. Yeah. That's a, that's a, that's a good point because I mean, when I, when I read it to begin with, I mean, it's a lot of, you know, kind of feels like it's talking around itself for a minute, but yeah, I mean, that's again, that's, it's just basic, basic physics. That's a great way to put it.

01:17:45.04
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:17:45.21
Bill
So, um but yeah, I mean, it it went into talking about that. I don't know that we've really focused on resentments or dealing with them or, or that sort of thing in a while.

01:17:53.21
Mike
Eh.

01:17:53.90
Bill
So yeah, I don't know. do you have basic, and I know we all, we both have basic thoughts. I'm just, um, resentments in general. Um, how do you, how do you suggest that people deal with the resentment or how do you, um, not have resentments or how do you even deal with that sort of thing? Do you think?

01:18:11.87
Bill
Right.

01:18:12.32
Mike
um Wow. That's, you know, um because, well, no, because I don't deal with them anymore because I make sure I don't have them.

01:18:20.10
Bill
Right.

01:18:23.34
Mike
um They're the number one offender. I read that somewhere.

01:18:25.66
Bill
Right.

01:18:26.82
Mike
oh

01:18:29.73
Mike
Right. Yeah. i don't Again, know back to the, you know, wasting calories on on bullshit, which I just don't do anymore. Yeah. yeah if If some, if there's a person in my life that, that I'm again, allowing to yeah bring me down and and and that I'm, I'm resentful.

01:18:51.60
Mike
Why am I resentful? And, and, and be why, do I have them in my life? Why, you know, if, if there's nothing I can do about it go away.

01:19:04.39
Mike
You know, I don't want to resent anyone.

01:19:04.39
Bill
No, but

01:19:06.81
Mike
i don't. Um, and, and so therefore, and, and therefore I don't resent anyone in my life because no one in my life is in my life for me to resent. Um,

01:19:18.78
Bill
mean, it makes sense.

01:19:20.52
Mike
talk about talking in circles. Um,

01:19:23.14
Bill
So, I mean, yeah. it makes it makes sense so i mean

01:19:25.66
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

01:19:26.60
Bill
yeah

01:19:26.70
Mike
I just, I, you know, great. If, if I'm resentful against someone, why am I allowing myself to be in their life, in my life, in anyone's life?

01:19:38.54
Mike
Go away.

01:19:39.93
Bill
Right.

01:19:40.03
Mike
You know, if there's nothing I could do about it if there's something I could do about it, there's no reason for me to resent them and I'm resentful against them, that's my fucking problem. And I better do something about it real quick.

01:19:50.76
Mike
um Yeah. And if if there's nothing I could do about it and that resentment is still there and I've done everything I can to make the situation better and it's still, I'm still resentful.

01:20:03.22
Mike
um Yeah. No, thanks. Bye.

01:20:06.35
Bill
right

01:20:06.90
Mike
You go your way, I'll go my way, and we won't resent each other because we won't be around each other.

01:20:13.92
Bill
You know, and I mean, you you made the, I think the the best point of that of that whole thing is saying that, um I mean, you have to be, ah why are you around people that you're going to have resentments against?

01:20:26.00
Mike
Yeah.

01:20:26.99
Bill
that that's That's the number one thing were talking about that the other in the other topic.

01:20:27.25
Mike
Yeah.

01:20:30.75
Bill
but um But on top of that is, you know, where does the, really what it comes down to is if we have a resentment, Most of the time, the person, person well, I'd say 99.9% of the time, 99%, the person probably didn't do anything to us to cause the resentment.

01:20:47.75
Mike
Right. Sure.

01:20:48.86
Bill
There's something perceived. we've We've created this fucking problem, right?

01:20:50.97
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

01:20:53.47
Bill
So why are we allowing ourselves to waste calories, like you said, and in build that up?

01:20:58.47
Mike
Yep.

01:20:59.30
Bill
And why are we, if this person does cause these issues for us, why are we around them? This person probably probably has no fucking clue.

01:21:05.83
Mike
Yeah.

01:21:08.49
Mike
No, absolutely not.

01:21:09.47
Bill
What's going on?

01:21:09.68
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:21:11.98
Bill
yeah

01:21:12.07
Mike
Why do I want to hang around clueless people?

01:21:16.00
Bill
Yeah, that's that's a good point. But but even even if it's even if it's so it's a circumstance where you know somebody does something and let's say they really did. you know let's go Let's go back to the other topic that's a dangerous one is justifiable anger.

01:21:30.77
Mike
Right.

01:21:30.94
Bill
um Let's say somebody actually does something to us that where if we put it on paper, you know it did the math, anger is justified. But is it is it worth it in nine times?

01:21:41.52
Bill
Well, it's never worth it It's never fucking worth it.

01:21:42.84
Mike
No. No.

01:21:44.31
Bill
And, you know, is it worth it for us to have the resentment? No, because the same thing that the common, the common mindset behind that is, you know, a resentment is like either holding a hot rock and expecting it to hurt somebody else or taking poison and expecting the other person to die.

01:21:48.13
Mike
Nope.

01:21:56.75
Mike
Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Yep. ah sorry

01:22:02.93
Bill
Fucking stupid, isn't it?

01:22:04.55
Mike
Yes, it is.

01:22:04.73
Bill
You know, and i tell you, I never realized I well, I know for a fact I never realized. um I don't think I ever really paid attention. If anyone would have ever asked me prior to sobriety, if I had any resentments, I probably would have said no

01:22:20.31
Mike
Right.

01:22:20.44
Bill
Um, because I didn't really understand what a resentment was. I mean, that sounds ignorant, but, um, I don't, I don't consider myself to be stupid, but I just don't, I don't think I ever, I looked at everything that I was angry about or every individual that was causing me harm, quote unquote, was justified and justifiable anger.

01:22:24.01
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. No.

01:22:28.85
Mike
No.

01:22:36.29
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

01:22:40.23
Mike
Sure.

01:22:40.19
Bill
And that's so I didn't have any resentments. These people were fucking with me and that's why I felt that way.

01:22:44.17
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:22:46.02
Bill
So fuck them.

01:22:46.40
Mike
Right. Yeah, again, back to personal responsibility. It's all their fault.

01:22:50.35
Bill
Hey.

01:22:50.99
Mike
They're all controlling me and all that.

01:22:52.25
Bill
hey

01:22:52.78
Mike
All right, lack of power is my biggest fucking problem. i

01:22:56.14
Bill
yeah

01:22:56.63
Mike
No, I got plenty of power today, right? Because it's all my fucking fault. All of it.

01:23:01.58
Bill
Right. Right. Yeah. You know what? It's one of those things where, you know, like yeah you hear people say how nice it would be to be, you know, blissfully ignorant it's at certain times.

01:23:10.72
Mike
so

01:23:11.74
Bill
But um I'm so glad that I'm not blissfully ignorant when it comes to that shit anymore, because um you just don't realize the amount of turmoil that you're causing yourself.

01:23:16.58
Mike
Right.

01:23:21.27
Bill
um, you know, stress and sleeplessness. And again, you look at, uh, I mean, I don't know. I think that both of us have, have aged quite well in the last 15 years compared if we would have lived, you know, how we would have aged, you know, and it's not just the booze, you know, the booze didn't help.

01:23:30.24
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Mm-hmm.

01:23:35.89
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:23:35.97
Bill
Um, you know, but I mean, you take a look at the, i mean, stress wears on the body and anger and, and all the sort of things.

01:23:40.00
Mike
Yeah.

01:23:42.01
Bill
And, you know, that causes lack lack of sleep and it can literally cause health issues. And God damn, man, I,

01:23:46.63
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:23:48.10
Bill
I do not want to live that way.

01:23:49.91
Mike
No.

01:23:49.87
Bill
It, it bothers me to this day. If, if I'm in, it's rare that I can't sleep. Um, but if it happens, um, usually it's because of something it's, it's, it's a good thing.

01:23:54.98
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:24:00.77
Bill
I'm i'm going someplace and I'm excited like a fucking, like a fucking child.

01:24:02.35
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:24:05.21
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:24:05.95
Bill
I get to open presents in the morning.

01:24:07.57
Mike
That's right. hey

01:24:09.19
Bill
Santa Claus is coming.

01:24:10.85
Mike
Yay.

01:24:12.19
Bill
yeah But it's usually not that I'm stressed out over anything because that's when I do the fucking inventory at night. I get rid of this shit. You know, take care of this fucking garbage so i can so I can sleep and the only time I wake up is when I gotta pee.

01:24:24.79
Mike
Yeah.

01:24:25.91
Bill
God damn it.

01:24:27.32
Mike
Mm-hmm. if

01:24:29.10
Bill
But yeah, okay. So I like that. There was another one, another one from Touchstones. You know, fuck the articles. I'll take a peek. There might've been one funny thing that I wanted to bring up in there, but it was coming across. I saw this other one by Touchstones.

01:24:40.41
Bill
um Spiritual progress is made by pushing aside busyness and efficiency.

01:24:45.00
Mike
Hmm.

01:24:46.68
Bill
We become receptive to inspiration by allowing empty spaces in our lives, some solitude and idleness. Mike, you can speak to this. Yeah. It's literally why i wrote I remember why I wrote this one down because I'm like, i'm like ooh, that's my friend Mike.

01:25:02.22
Mike
Yes, right, exactly. i i seek, I crave um dead times. Absolutely, yeah.

01:25:10.03
Bill
Right. Right.

01:25:11.60
Mike
um You know, I mean, there's clearly things I have to do and whatever, but I mean, you know, yeah. If I get, you know, i lately it's been like Saturday mornings, you know, I i wake up and oh I don't do shit.

01:25:28.89
Mike
I don't for like three hours, you know, I mean, I'll turn on the TV maybe, but that, you know, that's like,

01:25:28.91
Bill
Right.

01:25:36.73
Mike
Probably 45 minutes after I'm up, I mean, I get up, I do my readings, I do my stuff that I usually do, and then i just sit, scroll on my phone a little, dick around, whatever, but just, yeah, quiet and time to myself and nothing to do.

01:25:45.15
Bill
right

01:25:53.02
Mike
It's fucking wonderful, you know?

01:25:54.79
Bill
right

01:25:55.26
Mike
you know Fucking 11 o'clock, noon rolls around, I'm like, fuck, all right, I guess I'll start doing something. ha, ha, ha, ha.

01:26:04.38
Bill
Yeah. Yeah.

01:26:05.90
Mike
Yeah, but, you know, yeah it's it's um it's nice, man. Yeah, I, you know, don't get enough of it, but who the hell does? You know, um hey I'm an addict.

01:26:13.72
Bill
Right.

01:26:15.02
Mike
I always want more. want more of that good stuff, and the good stuff for me today is quiet and peace and nothing to do.

01:26:16.82
Bill
Yeah.

01:26:23.89
Bill
Well, and, you know, the the thing, and I thought about it the other day because, um you know, with the, ah with the, the hobo website and stuff like that, I mean, I haven't, I've got actually, I went in to start writing, writing an article on one of the trips, I don't know, a couple of weeks ago, a few weeks ago now.

01:26:31.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:26:39.10
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:26:39.13
Bill
And then I looked on like a fuck, I started a different one here, you know, like a month ago. um And I'm like, I just haven't devoted the time to it because,

01:26:46.67
Mike
Right.

01:26:47.10
Bill
You know, everything, um not everything, but things are busy. And sometimes I'm like, I just want to, I just want to do that. I want to sit down and, um you know, just watch TV.

01:26:55.18
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:26:56.77
Bill
And that's, you know, there's a certain time of night, usually around seven-ishsh seven ish, seven 30, I sit down and I'll watch TV for an hour, hour and a half, maybe.

01:27:04.42
Mike
Right.

01:27:04.41
Bill
And then, you know, I start getting my myself ready for bed and blah, blah, blah. I mean, I get I get plenty of if I I consider driving, you know, the driving that I'm doing to be relaxing ish.

01:27:13.59
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:27:14.75
Bill
You know, I can listen to podcasts.

01:27:15.77
Mike
Right.

01:27:16.19
Bill
I can listen to music. I could do nothing.

01:27:18.51
Mike
Right.

01:27:18.52
Bill
um I can think about shit if I want to. I can't you know, it's not like I physically do anything, but it just it is.

01:27:23.67
Mike
Right.

01:27:24.25
Bill
It's it's just idle time sort of, you know.

01:27:27.40
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:27:27.85
Bill
So all that stuff's fine. um But, you know, I thought about it the other day. I'm like, i I, for me, because I enjoy writing and I enjoy, you know, doing this stuff. It's doing these articles or these shit for the website and these trips I've had.

01:27:41.79
Mike
Right.

01:27:41.76
Bill
um it's It's enjoyable and it's it's fun to... relive it, I guess is the best way to put it, you know, and to put it down on paper.

01:27:48.59
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right?

01:27:51.24
Bill
And I mean, again, same thing as like with the shit that we do here. I don't know if anyone reads this stuff.

01:27:54.70
Mike
Right.

01:27:55.63
Bill
I mean, I can see the stats. I mean, I can see what it is. I don't get a lot of traffic or anything like that. You know, maybe some of the people read the posts on, you know, through Instagram, whatever the case is, it doesn't matter.

01:28:00.86
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:28:04.79
Bill
You know, it's, it is a bit writing and doing that. So it's a creative thing that is kind of kind of therapeutic, I guess, for me.

01:28:10.88
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:28:11.47
Bill
Um, you know, so that would be part of that part. I mean, it's not as much, I don't consider that to be busyness. I don't consider it to be work. You know, it is, it's, um, it is that solitude for me to do something like that.

01:28:20.35
Mike
Right.

01:28:24.08
Bill
Cause I can get lost in, in a creative thing, you know?

01:28:27.36
Mike
Yeah, right.

01:28:27.84
Bill
Um, but yeah, the, the sitting around stuff, even on weekends when, um, I don't have any place to go, it always seems like I got something to do. i don't know what the fuck I gotta do.

01:28:35.58
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah.

01:28:37.82
Bill
I'm like like, I guess I have something I have to do. like i My days get kind of filled up, you know, but, but,

01:28:42.48
Mike
Yeah, right. Laundry, mow the lawn.

01:28:47.11
Bill
Yeah, it's like, I mean, whatever. And Kathy, a lot of times, most of the grass, you know, I mean, because I haven't been around all that much, but, um you know, and then I get kicked around every once in a while and sometimes she's doing other shit and whatever.

01:28:52.55
Mike
Right.

01:28:56.90
Bill
She's like, I'm going to go cut the grass. I'm like, oh, okay, go cut the grass, you know? So, but um I don't know.

01:29:00.95
Mike
Yeah.

01:29:02.37
Bill
I mean, it is, it's just, ah you know, it's making, making the most of, like you said, you know, having, having the time and taking the time and the sitting around and do nothing. I mean, you're not literally, you're not hurting anyone, you know?

01:29:13.74
Bill
So what the fuck?

01:29:13.83
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:29:15.37
Bill
Yeah.

01:29:15.56
Mike
Right, yeah, and i'm not I'm not jerking responsibilities and, you know, not yeah, exactly, you know, but it's it's nice to carve out that time to have nothing to do.

01:29:18.80
Bill
Right.

01:29:25.55
Mike
It's a beautiful thing.

01:29:25.67
Bill
Yeah, exactly. like All right. So this isn't really an article. I just said, did you hear about the, um, the couple that, uh, that got accused of having sex while driving a stolen RV?

01:29:37.55
Mike
No.

01:29:38.90
Bill
I just thought maybe you heard about it. One of your kicker stories. The bottom line is, um, I gotta fucking redirect. don't I just heard this, just heard this today. So a couple accused of cues to having sex while driving stolen RV. That's what it was. It was in Bluefield, West Virginia.

01:29:51.99
Bill
Apparently. I mean, both of them, I mean,

01:29:52.37
Mike
Uh

01:29:54.39
Bill
completely naked in this fucking stolen RV and, um, the dudes driving and chicks, you know, obviously on top of him, they get pulled over and I, they must've switched drivers as they, um, as they were getting pulled over for some stupid reason.

01:29:57.41
Mike
huh. Uh huh. Right.

01:30:01.26
Mike
ah huh

01:30:07.99
Bill
Um, because maybe one, I, maybe the chick didn't think she was drunk, but they both got DUIs, found drug prayer paraphernalia.

01:30:14.33
Mike
ahha

01:30:15.44
Bill
prescription drugs that they did that prescriptions for all this different shit.

01:30:18.07
Mike
right

01:30:19.05
Bill
So, I mean, completely fucked up, but yeah, they're trying to get, you know, have, have sex in a stolen RV driving down the road. So I don't know. My, my thought was boys and girls, first of all, if you're going to steal an RV, probably not the best thing in the world.

01:30:31.38
Bill
Maybe you're not making good choices. Um, but why don't you pull the RV over and just fucking the RV? Why do you have to drive?

01:30:39.32
Mike
Well, I mean, because that's boring.

01:30:42.08
Bill
ah Okay.

01:30:44.33
Mike
It's not enough.

01:30:44.42
Bill
No, Well, okay.

01:30:46.86
Mike
Right, I'm going to steal an RV, get high, or get high, steal an RV, get higher, and then fuck while you're driving it.

01:30:46.96
Bill
See now.

01:30:51.88
Bill
Right.

01:30:53.82
Mike
I mean, yeah, you know, hookers and blows, boring.

01:30:55.48
Bill
You know what? I, I can't, I, I was just going to say, unfortunately, but I am, I'm going to say, unfortunately, I can't argue with that logic. Cause now when you, when you just put it that way, I seriously understand what you're saying.

01:31:08.20
Mike
Yes.

01:31:08.17
Bill
I'm like, oh yeah. Well, why, why, why weren't they? It's like, you know, what well why, why, why,

01:31:11.20
Mike
Yeah, right. Why the hell not?

01:31:13.77
Bill
why

01:31:13.93
Mike
Why would you pull over?

01:31:14.23
Bill
why

01:31:15.76
Mike
First of all, talk about wasting time.

01:31:15.85
Bill
yeah

01:31:18.50
Mike
You could be moving down the road and getting shit done.

01:31:22.96
Bill
Right.

01:31:23.22
Mike
kill Killing two birds with one stone.

01:31:23.21
Bill
And then banging one bird along the way.

01:31:27.93
Mike
Yeah.

01:31:28.13
Bill
Hello.

01:31:28.96
Mike
And then smoking the stone.

01:31:31.18
Bill
Yeah. So again, I can't, I cannot, and I won't even, I'm not even going to try to argue with the logic. Not at all.

01:31:37.17
Mike
It all makes perfect sense to me.

01:31:39.03
Bill
It does. I, and I do, I seriously, seriously agree with you. So I also think you probably agree that we're done, right?

01:31:42.70
Mike
instance

01:31:46.63
Mike
ah Yes, I do.

01:31:48.19
Bill
Okay. Then we're, we're done. And it is your turn, my friend.

01:31:51.41
Mike
ah right. Well, thank you, everyone, for listening to yet another episode of Sober Not Mature. always, be kind to each other. Be good to each other.

01:32:02.01
Mike
go out and do something nice for somebody else this week. And don't tell anybody you did it. Now, from the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul, from the beginning of time until the ends of the earth, always and eternally, fuck you.

01:32:23.52
Mike
Now it's time, kids. It's time for you to fuck off. Then keep fucking off. Keep fucking off till you get to a gate with a sign on it saying, you cannot fuck off past here.

01:32:34.90
Mike
Climb over that gate and dream the impossible dream and keep fucking off forever.

01:32:40.68
Bill
there's ah There's a good reason sometimes that I mute when you did the whole fuck off thing and you said it loud you're like, fuck off. I literally laughed out loud.

01:32:49.31
Mike
yay

01:32:49.52
Bill
That's it. That made me laugh. That was a good one. So one one last quick question. Do you, what your opinion of Eric Roberts? any Any opinion?

01:32:56.74
Mike
The actor?

01:32:57.69
Bill
Yeah.

01:32:59.47
Mike
Isn't he dead?

01:33:00.63
Bill
No, no, he's alive. He's alive.

01:33:01.87
Mike
Is he?

01:33:02.10
Bill
Mm-hmm.

01:33:02.27
Mike
Alright. I don't know. that Aren't they all dead at this point? um Eric Roberts. What the hell is he in that I... Yeah, I don't know. Sure. He's alright.

01:33:11.44
Bill
Yeah, he was in, God, why can't I think of the Star 80? That was his brightlight one of his breakout movies.

01:33:17.36
Mike
Oh yeah. That was... Yeah, right. right Dorothy Stratton. Right.

01:33:20.30
Bill
Yeah, then obviously other ones.

01:33:20.80
Mike
Ah.

01:33:21.46
Bill
But I started listing his book came up as far it was on so Amazon did this ah sale.

01:33:24.01
Mike
ah

01:33:26.52
Bill
I got it for like six bucks or five bucks or whatever it was.

01:33:29.22
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:33:29.28
Bill
um And I mean, he's yet another one. I mean, ultimately, I think he got sober. I'm not that far in. um Definitely problem with alcohol and drugs and this and that.

01:33:36.12
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:33:38.65
Bill
But another one was some seriously fucked up family issues and stuff like that.

01:33:42.73
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:33:42.95
Bill
um Even his relationship with Julia, I guess they I didn't realize they were I think they might even still be estranged. But yeah.

01:33:47.97
Mike
Yeah.

01:33:48.99
Bill
the The biggest thing that cracks me up is he'll be talking. he's He's a whisperer at the end of a sentence. Like sometimes he'll say that, and and and she went on to to live a happy life because she could.

01:33:54.06
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:34:01.23
Mike
Right. Hmm. Yeah.

01:34:02.31
Bill
And then, you know, he's like, he's like, oh, and blah, blah, blah.

01:34:03.09
Mike
There it

01:34:05.03
Bill
And, and I love her because I do, you know, whatever it is, but it's, I didn't notice it right away.

01:34:08.22
Mike
is.

01:34:10.42
Bill
And then I'm like, I'm like, oh my God, he's a fucking whisperer, which is fine, but it's mildly annoying, but, um, all in all, he's, he's interesting enough to listen to, but, um, I've just didn't, didn't know what your opinion is, was on him.

01:34:22.41
Bill
So I,

01:34:22.52
Mike
say well yeah

01:34:26.52
Bill
all right.

01:34:26.76
Mike
there it is

01:34:26.84
Bill
I may, yep. I may, I may have more on him later. So, all right. Anyhow, um, I love you, brother.

01:34:32.51
Mike
I love you too.

01:34:33.88
Bill
And I know we'll talk soon.

01:34:35.18
Mike
We shall.

01:34:36.52
Bill
Alrighty. bye

01:34:38.00
Mike
Bye.
