SoberNotMature - Episode 171 (Mildly Entertaining As Always)

This week, it's us. Mike and Bill, just keeping it simple.

Mike started out with his reading and it was about what we do when no one is looking and the fact that "we are only as sick as our secrets." We can all act decent for an hour at a meeting, but what about the rest of the time? It was a good conversation.

We shared some messages from a couple of listeners, and one of them was from a buddy of ours in Cleveland who is an avid listener, and we had no idea. We also chatted about our upcoming upcoming guests; a priest and a Sober Curator.

Then it was one day at a time, balance, the feeling or the need to help others, avoiding strangers, driving through creeks, a Foo firing and Henry Winkler.

We also read a couple of articles that were fun and interesting. Downplaying your birthday and signs that men have lost their joy in life. We had a few laughs.

Enjoy the episode.

00:00:01.36
Bill
All right, hold on here.

00:00:02.37
Mike
b

00:00:03.59
Bill
Good to go.

00:00:07.27
Bill
Hey, Mike, I have a question for you.

00:00:08.68
Mike
All right, I may have an answer for you.

00:00:10.81
Bill
hey So if you're one of our fine listeners and you wanted to know a little bit more about the podcast, more than just listening to us ramble, where would you go as a listener? What do you think you'd do?

00:00:21.69
Mike
I believe you would go to sobernotmature.com.

00:00:26.26
Bill
Ding, ding.

00:00:27.23
Mike
Hehehehe.

00:00:28.52
Bill
Okay, good. Now, next question is, what if you've been, i don't know, seeing us on social media, you've seen our t-shirts and seen some of the pictures we posted and the person's like, you know what? I want to be cool. Like those guys that get a t-shirt or a coffee mug.

00:00:41.59
Bill
Where would they go for that? I know this is a tougher question, but where would they go for that one?

00:00:45.66
Mike
um They would go to sobernotmature.com.

00:00:50.89
Bill
They could do that. Yes, you're right. Because once you're on sobernotmature.com, they could hit the store link and go right to our second website, which is sobernotmatureshop.com.

00:00:56.14
Mike
Thank you.

00:01:01.66
Mike
Ah, see, I was going to say store. I just screwed it up.

00:01:05.12
Bill
You know what? The thing of it is, is you got it right the first time. Everything people want is at, go ahead with the first website,

00:01:10.94
Mike
Sober, not mature.com.

00:01:14.03
Bill
And if you mess around on there, you're going to see everything we have. Obviously, we have our merchandise. See a little bit about us, a little bit about our background. We posted some other things on there. But I don't know. You can even sign up for our email email list. And here's the good thing.

00:01:25.54
Mike
Hmm.

00:01:25.82
Bill
We barely email anyone ever. So you're not going to get spammed.

00:01:29.77
Mike
Oh, no, absolutely not. That would be like effort on our part.

00:01:31.18
Bill
yeah

00:01:33.13
Mike
And that's not going to happen.

00:01:33.50
Bill
yeah Right. I have never used our mailing list yet. I may at some point. But that would take that would take structure and discipline, which I don't think either one of us have, do we?

00:01:43.03
Mike
I know I don't.

00:01:44.99
Bill
All right. So just to wrap up here, to visit our main website and get to everything that is us, where would they go, Mike?

00:01:51.82
Mike
Sobernotmature.com

00:01:55.54
Bill
Visit that today, right?

00:01:57.36
Mike
Right.

00:01:58.54
Bill
Okay. I think we're done. Are you done?

00:02:00.37
Mike
I'm done.

00:02:01.91
Bill
Bye.

00:02:02.66
Mike
Bye.

00:02:07.03
Bill
All right. So that was easy enough.

00:02:08.10
Mike
Yeah.

00:02:08.76
Bill
It's right under the two, right under the two minute mark, I think. So see, I figured, I figured you'd be able to walk through that one easily enough.

00:02:12.06
Mike
Yeah.

00:02:14.63
Bill
So I didn't think i I did not think it'd be an issue.

00:02:14.84
Mike
Sure.

00:02:18.19
Bill
So, okay, give me a, let's count off three seconds so I can start off. Okay.

00:02:22.79
Mike
Yep.

00:02:25.43
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome once again to another episode of Sober, Not Mature. And yeah, we just recorded a new website promo.

00:02:35.95
Mike
Ooh.

00:02:36.20
Bill
Hey, it's it's coming up, so don't skip ahead anyone, but you want to hear anyone. well Is this called bumper music? Is that what it's called in the biz?

00:02:42.29
Mike
ah Sure. Yes, it could be.

00:02:44.64
Bill
Okay, here we go Everyone ready? Listen. Let's give you a little volume.

00:02:52.74
Bill
It's a slow groove.

00:02:56.87
Bill
ah

00:02:57.40
Mike
itp

00:02:59.86
Bill
i don't know. A little shit like that kind of makes me happy. I don't know. because you know Seriously, we were talking about that, and I mentioned it last week. you know It just irritated me that the switchover from... Again, anchor to Spotify, to creators and blah, whatever the fuck they call themselves now, which I'm not complaining.

00:03:13.30
Mike
for

00:03:14.63
Bill
Spotify is free. They're the ones, there are they are our vehicle for everything we do. Yes, we record with Zencaster.

00:03:19.10
Mike
Right.

00:03:20.25
Bill
This podcast is brought to you by Zencaster.

00:03:22.40
Mike
It is.

00:03:23.33
Bill
um But to get it out to all you fine folks, it goes through Spotify for creators. So um yeah, they just cut out a couple of different things. So I had to search around and found some music and we just did what is probably a ridiculously silly, but but hopefully effective website promo.

00:03:38.16
Mike
but

00:03:38.70
Bill
so

00:03:38.70
Mike
and mildly entertaining to boot.

00:03:41.59
Bill
Yeah, if nothing else, I guess worst case scenario, everything we do is at least minorly little bit possibly entertaining. I don't know if it's like funny, but you know,

00:03:48.63
Mike
Right. Right. Whatever.

00:03:53.22
Bill
But um a couple of things that I've got, i can't I can't forget. I've got, I think I've got a note on here about the stories that I had talked about last week. I'll talk about those later, but I get a couple of other things. Got some articles at the end. I'm kind of getting into these article things.

00:04:03.52
Mike
he

00:04:04.84
Bill
I just run across just stupid shit. And I'm like, this might be fun to talk about. So um I think I've hit, we've been probably 70% on those.

00:04:08.08
Mike
Right.

00:04:11.95
Bill
Some of them have been shit, but 70%.

00:04:14.35
Mike
Yeah.

00:04:14.50
Bill
Can I get a good 70 there?

00:04:15.02
Mike
Right. Yeah. Yeah. um You know.

00:04:16.68
Bill
seventy percent can i get a good seventy there yeah

00:04:18.66
Mike
That's good. Yeah, absolutely. You know, it's a hell of a batting average, 700. Yeah, absolutely.

00:04:23.50
Bill
Okay, so yeah, let's even take a good batting average. You know, even if 30% of what we were talking about, a 300 batter in the majors, I mean, that's a Hall of Famer, right?

00:04:30.38
Mike
Mm-hmm. absolutely

00:04:32.44
Bill
Oh, fuck, we're double Hall of Famers, so we're good. Okay. But we we got a couple of messages from some people. I want to talk about the upcoming guests we have coming up, two for sure. And then we got approached by a couple more that I sent you an email.

00:04:45.24
Bill
one Obviously, we got to take a look at that. Another author possibly wants to be on. But and don't know. we have ah We have some things. And I don't know. We got some things to talk about, I believe.

00:04:54.49
Mike
Damn, I apparently have to check my email.

00:04:58.08
Bill
I went to your, it went to your hotmail. I, cause I know that that's your, that's your normal one, but it's nothing, but it's, it's nothing out of the ordinary, nothing we have to do immediately.

00:05:00.14
Mike
Right, yeah, yeah. Because I'm an old man.

00:05:07.82
Bill
But the guy sent us a, he sent us a link to his book. You know, guy that wants, we got of approached by a couple of people and um one of them, two actually guys have been two of them now.

00:05:11.27
Mike
Cool? Yeah.

00:05:17.72
Mike
Hmm.

00:05:18.03
Bill
that I got back and I'm like, Hey, you know, we're good to go. And, um you know, I haven't got back to me, but you know, two for sure. I think we've got coming up, but we'll, we'll touch on those after we do the reading and stuff. So do you have a, you don't have to check your, you want to check your email now?

00:05:27.40
Mike
All right.

00:05:30.53
Bill
Feel free.

00:05:30.76
Mike
and No, i know that's fine.

00:05:30.89
Bill
We can, we can wait. I mean, I don't care.

00:05:33.16
Mike
bob It can wait.

00:05:36.09
Bill
I want to hear about the concert you guys went to last weekend too, but you're like, all right.

00:05:37.81
Mike
yeah All right. a

00:05:40.97
Bill
Okay. But either way, you know, we can get to the, yeah what I'm going to hear air quotes, the structured part of this podcast, which is our reading, right?

00:05:47.57
Mike
Right. is. It is. it is I got some Mikes standing outside my house pointing at shit. right. Anyway, it's fine. Squirrel.

00:05:57.59
Bill
Are they, are they pointing at your house or something or?

00:06:00.42
Mike
Actually, they're pointing at the neighbor's house. I don't know. It doesn't matter. Anyway, theyre they've lost interest, apparently.

00:06:06.29
Bill
All right, cool.

00:06:06.37
Mike
um i You know I live on a quiet street, so if there's any kind of action out there, I'm like, what the fuck, man? um

00:06:13.19
Bill
What are you standing out there for?

00:06:15.00
Mike
Yeah, right. Get off my fucking lawn, assholes.

00:06:17.79
Bill
Get out of my vision. It's not even on your lawn.

00:06:19.49
Mike
a

00:06:21.68
Bill
Just get out of my vision, man.

00:06:23.07
Mike
That's right.

00:06:23.55
Bill
Yeah.

00:06:24.33
Mike
That's right. Get off my goddamn street.

00:06:27.18
Bill
yeah

00:06:27.47
Mike
Okay. All right. Focus. Focus. All right. Yes. A reading. A reading this week from God Grant Me. This is from a couple days ago. had Yesterday, actually.

00:06:41.49
Mike
um Read it and marked it and went, all right, so here we go. ah May 29th. Character is what a person does in the dark. Dwight L. Moody.

00:06:53.16
Mike
Apparently he was a 17th century evangelist. ah Yes, I had time to Google. Ooh, I'm prepared. All right, here we go. How many of us act differently when no one can see us?

00:07:06.18
Mike
During the worst days of our illness, we used to steal, lie, and leave messes for someone else to pick up. It is often said in the meeting rooms that we, quote, are as sick as our secrets, unquote.

00:07:21.83
Mike
The longer we are in recovery, the more clear the answer becomes. We are the same person wherever we go, whether anyone can see us or not. Most often the things we used to, quote unquote, get away with hurt us a lot more than they hurt anyone else.

00:07:40.38
Mike
Debatable. ah We practice being responsible to ourselves because we know what we are doing. We practice on the little things like making our bed every morning,

00:07:51.93
Mike
Hmm. Whether anyone knows it or not. Why? Because we feel better when we have done our little duties. We practice telling the truth, especially to ourselves, because our addiction wants to make us dishonest.

00:08:08.01
Mike
Prayer for the day. Higher power. Please help me heal and recover even in the most secret parts of my life. Today's action, those pesky actions.

00:08:19.88
Mike
Have I done anything today that I'm keeping secret? Why? When I really take a good look at my secrets, what do I think about them? Hmm.

00:08:31.41
Bill
I think we we talked a little bit about, um i don't know if it was this reading last year, but um we talked about secrets. We talked about, you know, i think keeping things to ourselves and and that sort of thing.

00:08:42.48
Bill
And I mean, that's that's the obvious question.

00:08:42.93
Mike
Hmm.

00:08:44.24
Bill
I think I know the answer. I'm going to ask it anyhow. Mike, are there any secrets that you're keeping that you want to share on a podcast?

00:08:46.87
Mike
Yes.

00:08:51.10
Mike
yeah

00:08:51.68
Bill
Yeah.

00:08:53.16
Mike
You know what?

00:08:53.28
Bill
yeah

00:08:54.52
Mike
That's real easy. No.

00:08:57.68
Bill
I have no secrets, and so I don't have to worry about having to share them openly with anyone because I have none.

00:09:01.47
Mike
Right. yeah Exactly. Yeah. I mean, not you know, no, not really. i mean, you know, i I talk openly about, you know, my thinking still fucked up and, you know, my attitudes aren't always the greatest. But no, as far as like deep secrets, you know, something that I do that I don't want anyone to know.

00:09:19.87
Mike
Absolutely not.

00:09:21.44
Bill
Right. Yeah, there's ah i mean, there's a huge difference who we've talked about. i mean, there's, even though we're ridiculously and very open on here about a lot of things, um you know, there's, so we still, I mean, we have privacy, you know, we have things that that we don't talk about, but those aren't secrets.

00:09:29.42
Mike
hmm. Right. Right.

00:09:34.64
Mike
Well, yeah.

00:09:37.34
Bill
That's a different thing. That'd be,

00:09:38.28
Mike
Yeah, absolutely.

00:09:39.53
Bill
Yeah. Like for instance, if, if I'm out there doing something that is outside of, uh, you know, if somebody looked at it like, well, you're not acting like a recovery individual, you know, by doing that, or, um, you know, you're um treating somebody a different way or blah, blah, blah, whatever that, that would be the secrets that we're talking about.

00:09:51.16
Mike
Right.

00:09:54.02
Bill
So, um, you know, obviously, I mean, I, I know you talked about it's good.

00:09:54.25
Mike
Yeah.

00:09:58.18
Bill
It's good to be able to answer that question and be like, yeah, yeah I don't even have to decipher on what secrets I can share.

00:09:59.83
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:10:03.43
Mike
Right.

00:10:03.85
Bill
Cause I don't have any. Yeah.

00:10:04.84
Mike
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, I mean, you know, the the stuff that, I mean, for personally for me, the stuff I don't talk about on here generally has to do with other people. You know, anything that's strictly me, fuck, I don't care.

00:10:14.32
Bill
Right. Right.

00:10:17.47
Mike
I'll tell anybody anything. i You know, they may not want me to, but I will.

00:10:22.80
Bill
right

00:10:23.26
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:10:24.44
Bill
Right. Well, and we've had we've had those stories before. I mean, I've told stories about, ah you know, I mean, my my past marriages and but both of them and my ex-wives.

00:10:27.24
Mike
Right.

00:10:32.64
Mike
Right.

00:10:33.10
Bill
And, you know, it's it's to the point where I mean, either I'll start to tell a story and I'm like, yeah I'm not going to tell that one. Or, um you know, I tell a story and then it's it's literally it's up to a point where I'm like, OK, so I'm going to go.

00:10:44.36
Bill
I got to go that way because the the other part of the story.

00:10:45.76
Mike
Yeah.

00:10:47.39
Bill
um Even though that, yeah, there is, it everything takes usually more than one person, in a lot of cases, if you're telling a story about a relationship or a family member or friends, but, you know, it's not, we're of the true belief that it's not our place to tell somebody else's story, you know?

00:10:52.30
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:10:55.40
Mike
Sure.

00:11:02.01
Mike
Absolutely. Mm-hmm.

00:11:03.27
Bill
And I've said that to my kids too. You know, I mean that neither one of them have necessarily walked up to me and like, okay, so um give me the blow by blow. What happened to you with mom?

00:11:11.96
Mike
Right.

00:11:12.40
Bill
You know, neither one of them have asked that. I've told stories. We've talked about things.

00:11:15.64
Mike
Sure.

00:11:16.02
Bill
I've, I've talked about my responsibility in those things. And quite honestly, the things that happened outside of that, the, um the mushroom cloud that came from my actions and ultimately maybe, I mean, maybe what blew up those relationships was based on my actions anyhow.

00:11:26.96
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:11:30.40
Mike
Sure.

00:11:31.73
Bill
So yeah.

00:11:31.99
Mike
Right. Exactly.

00:11:33.22
Bill
The rest of it doesn't fucking matter.

00:11:33.38
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, you know, and I mean, you know, they, you know, clearly can figure out that the main points and I'm sure they don't want the details.

00:11:43.45
Mike
And yeah, and you know, like you said, man, they're fairly aware of what you used to be and what you're like now.

00:11:43.76
Bill
Right.

00:11:50.45
Mike
And yeah, yeah exactly.

00:11:51.15
Bill
Right.

00:11:52.77
Mike
We're not, you know, we're not fooling anybody. We never were.

00:11:55.88
Bill
Right. Yeah. And I think that, and I don't know this for sure, but i'm I'm pretty sure that, you know, they probably look at the relationship that I have with ah both of my kids, look at the relationship that I have with both of their moms.

00:12:03.86
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:12:06.89
Bill
And I'm, and I'm sure that, you know, Kimmy looks at the relationship I have with Dawn and Derek looks at the relationship I have with Pam.

00:12:13.54
Mike
Right.

00:12:13.64
Bill
um You know, I mean, they're, they're, they're very, I, I know for a fact, they're very aware of, of how I treat people and how those relationships are.

00:12:18.56
Mike
isn't

00:12:21.67
Bill
And I think that if, If they were, if those relationships were damaged, then I think they not only would, probably should have questions, you know?

00:12:30.17
Mike
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. But yeah, they, they see what's going on, ah you know, despite the fact that they're, uh, you know, quote unquote normal and they don't need this garbage that we've got. Um,

00:12:41.16
Mike
Yeah, you know, they they they live in the present and they look and they see the way things are now and they go, eh, shit's pretty good. You know, why, you know, what the fuck does it matter what happened in the past?

00:12:48.33
Bill
Right.

00:12:52.98
Bill
Right. Yeah. Yeah. And they, like I said, they, they see the, they, they know the difference. Like you just said, you know, they it's, it's no secret that there there's a reason I've told enough stories and been open and honest enough where and they under, they understand the the, the piece of garbage that I was and,

00:12:57.72
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:13:02.25
Mike
Yeah.

00:13:05.93
Mike
Right? Right.

00:13:08.01
Bill
you know, what I am today. And God, even looking at it, just going back real quick, just as a side note I was just thinking about that. It over the years after I got sober as like um Pam's family, ah her extended family started kind of coming back into my life, you know, like a person her sister friended me on Facebook and I'm like, well, that's fucking weird.

00:13:23.16
Mike
Right.

00:13:26.59
Bill
You know, Pam, Pam's sister.

00:13:28.41
Mike
Right, right.

00:13:28.56
Bill
um And I'm like, oh, that's weird. But then, you know, then you see at family events and everyone's come up and give me hugs. And these are aunts, uncles. And same thing with, you know, like Dawn's parents. And I, you know, see some of the relatives.

00:13:39.09
Bill
Every once in a while, I've been at a gathering at at Dawn's house. And, you know, a relative that I haven't seen in a while will walk in and they kind of look at kind of weird because they don't know anything, you know.

00:13:46.88
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. What the fuck's he doing here?

00:13:50.33
Bill
Yeah, and then, you know, I mean, either I'm sure maybe they asked the question or whatever it is, but, you know, nobody's ever made a deal out of it.

00:13:53.73
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:13:56.68
Bill
But um again, it's the, you know, like you say, promises, right?

00:13:56.85
Mike
Sure.

00:14:00.13
Mike
Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Yeah. the The wonderful things that come into our lives when we do the next right thing.

00:14:06.90
Bill
Right. So one of the, speaking of secrets and stuff like that, and this, I guess, probably goes back down to probably it is. It's one of those, you know, I guess, cliches, right? The we're as sick as our secrets.

00:14:17.19
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:14:17.71
Bill
Is that a, is that a big book thing or just a recovery thing or do you know? Okay.

00:14:22.36
Mike
I don't think it's big book. it It doesn't ring that, that it's what it's from.

00:14:24.75
Bill
Right.

00:14:26.74
Mike
I think it's just, yeah, it's, you know, um, after the big book, you know, in the rooms, some, somebody figured that out somewhere, some drunk somewhere went, you know what?

00:14:32.57
Bill
Right.

00:14:38.12
Mike
We're as sick as our secrets.

00:14:40.26
Bill
Right. Yeah. It just, it's something that we've, we've heard. Um, I mean, probably from, you know, if not day one, probably day two or three, you know, and, um, you know, like it just, it's, I, I, was sort thinking about that when I wrote it down.

00:14:46.67
Mike
Right. um Yeah. Yeah.

00:14:53.33
Bill
I'm like, I, I just didn't know where, where it came from, but yeah, it, it didn't once again, I mean, I don't know where, fuck I don't know where I read things from.

00:15:01.93
Mike
Yeah.

00:15:02.11
Bill
don't know where I hear things from.

00:15:03.25
Mike
And I mean, you know, like like most things, you know, truths in the world, um you know, big fucking Socrates said it or Plato you know, fucking thousands of years ago.

00:15:03.53
Bill
Where'd you, yeah.

00:15:15.15
Mike
Nothing's fucking original.

00:15:16.91
Bill
Wait, who said it? Who was the first guy you said?

00:15:18.92
Mike
Socrates.

00:15:19.60
Bill
Oh, think shit.

00:15:19.65
Mike
Sorry. Sorry. i mispro I mispronounced it.

00:15:20.61
Bill
That's okay.

00:15:22.01
Mike
I said Socrates.

00:15:23.17
Bill
i

00:15:23.17
Mike
I'm i'm sorry. I mispronounced it

00:15:24.22
Bill
i wasn't sure I wasn't sure who you were talking about. like who's that guy?

00:15:26.39
Mike
Right.

00:15:26.74
Bill
I know the Plato dude, but I'm like, Socrates, who the fuck is that?

00:15:28.23
Mike
Yeah. Play-Doh.

00:15:29.34
Bill
Socrates. Yeah.

00:15:30.90
Mike
Play-Doh and Socrates.

00:15:32.58
Bill
Yeah, exactly. I know the Plato guy.

00:15:34.93
Mike
Right. And the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. And in the Pillsbury Doughboy.

00:15:41.71
Bill
Right.

00:15:43.44
Mike
all the All those great philosophers of the past.

00:15:43.65
Bill
Plato.

00:15:47.31
Mike
Charlie Tuna.

00:15:47.49
Bill
Play, yeah, Play-Doh and Socrates. I'm glad you picked up on that when I said Play-Doh though. Thank you. Thank you for being, being sharp.

00:15:54.46
Mike
Yes. yes

00:15:58.09
Bill
It was, was funny, just as a side note, before we were, like because I figured out this whole website promo thing and I told Mike and like, yeah, we're going that. He's like, um okay. He's like, is there anything I need to know? and I'm like, well, you you never, you usually don't want to.

00:16:10.44
Bill
and he's like, no, I really don't. I'm like, okay. I said, I think I can, I can help lead you through this. I, I've got an idea, like a semi-structure. I'm like, you'll be fine.

00:16:16.70
Mike
Right. Yeah, exactly.

00:16:17.40
Bill
Yeah.

00:16:18.10
Mike
Yeah. that's yeah i I tend to do better when I have no idea what I'm doing and just play along with the crowd.

00:16:24.51
Bill
right Well, that goes back to the initial thing, all the shit that I have written down. You're like, nope, I don't, I don't want to know any of it. Cause I don't want to, don't want to have time to make up the lies.

00:16:30.65
Mike
Mm-hmm. Exactly.

00:16:34.80
Bill
All right. So, um, character, ah characters. I was like the first line there. Something about character done in the dark or characters who we are in the dark.

00:16:43.27
Mike
Right.

00:16:45.04
Bill
I'm like characters done in the dark. Maybe I wrote that down too.

00:16:46.64
Mike
Yeah. Right.

00:16:47.96
Bill
Hey there.

00:16:48.32
Mike
Well, actually, when I read it out loud, because I had clearly read it yesterday and then I read it again today to make sure it wasn't like, you know, it wasn't half asleep and it wasn't crap.

00:16:58.41
Mike
Anyway. um Yes. So when I read it out loud, character is what a person is in the dark.

00:17:04.23
Bill
Oh, okay. There you go. Okay.

00:17:05.26
Mike
Yeah. Which could be a little dirty.

00:17:07.59
Bill
It could be, but, you know, I mean, it's, we we understand that it wasn't, at least I don't think it was. It could have been about that way. Who knows?

00:17:12.81
Mike
I don't know.

00:17:12.92
Bill
You know?

00:17:13.45
Mike
The guy was an evangelist. I mean, God knows what those guys are doing.

00:17:18.04
Bill
Right. So the, the one thing, the second thing that I wrote down, and we've talked about this before, but I think it's, it's hugely important. And I know a big part of, ah you know, how would you and I kind of put our backbone of things on is act differently when no, or some people act differently when no one is looking, you know, and that, ah that I think is, is important.

00:17:35.44
Mike
Right.

00:17:39.25
Bill
And again, do you think that's something that, that we were told pretty early on, or is that something we've just learned over time or, what,

00:17:47.07
Mike
Well, I'm sure we were told fairly early on, but um yeah, you know, and then over and over and over and it finally, finally started making sense. But, um you know, and as you were talking, I was thinking about it. It's like, fuck, man, you know, I could barely do the one thing anymore, you know, so I better make sure it's like the next right thing and all that good stuff because, you Yeah, that that running you and trucker lingo, running two logbooks, I just don't have the energy for it anymore.

00:18:15.93
Bill
Right. Right.

00:18:16.19
Mike
You know, there's there's no way, man. i can't I can't act a different way anymore. You know, yeah, can I can't switch switch gears like that anymore.

00:18:21.99
Bill
right

00:18:26.03
Mike
i just, you know, I don't want to. I don't have the energy for. fuck, man, that's that's hard work, you know? And then, you know, remembering, okay, which which gear am I supposed to be in now?

00:18:37.37
Mike
Fuck. Screw all that, man.

00:18:38.33
Bill
Right.

00:18:39.11
Mike
You know, I want to be in the gear I'm supposed to be in and and just keep driving down the road the way I'm supposed to.

00:18:46.04
Bill
Yeah, I mean, shit, I can't, well, first of all, i can't remember readings that I read. the The reason I remember this one, making the bed. I'm like, oh yeah, make I make my bed every day.

00:18:52.22
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:18:53.24
Bill
You know, that one, I'm like, oh yeah, I remember that. But I'm like, fuck, that was yesterday? Shit, really?

00:18:57.24
Mike
Yup. Yeah.

00:18:58.40
Bill
But um I can't remember who I told stories to. I mean, the stories that are, that are you know, decent stories, good stories, or fuck stories on here. That's why half the time, I mean, i before i before I talk, I'm like, I think we talked about this before, or we may have talked about this before, but...

00:19:12.63
Mike
Right.

00:19:14.35
Bill
Um, cause I, I don't know. I have no idea usually until, especially on here, you and I will get into a conversation. And the funny part is that you will say the exact same thing as you said last time, or I will say the same thing.

00:19:28.79
Bill
And then it just, it's literally deja vu. And you're like, well, we fucking talked about this before. I know we did, you know, but it's, it's a good thing that we're answering this the same way.

00:19:33.36
Mike
Right.

00:19:37.40
Mike
Consistently. Yeah, exactly.

00:19:39.41
Bill
Yeah.

00:19:40.16
Mike
Yeah, that's exactly. It's a wonderful thing and when you're not lying and making things up and running and whatever. You're just stating the truth, man. and then it's So, yeah, if it comes out again, well, it was the truth yesterday. It's probably the truth today.

00:19:55.61
Mike
Pretty sure it's going to be the truth tomorrow.

00:19:59.18
Bill
Yeah. And same deal. If I'm telling a story and, and I leave something out, it's not that I lied about it. It's literally that I forgot.

00:20:05.68
Mike
Right. Right.

00:20:06.90
Bill
I can't remember. ah can't remember who said that or where I, what happened or what the exact situation is.

00:20:11.07
Mike
see

00:20:12.25
Bill
So, I mean, they get, the story is going to get diluted, but not on purpose, you know, over time, but that's just my, my old goddamn brain.

00:20:16.31
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:20:18.93
Bill
That's all that is.

00:20:19.20
Mike
Exactly.

00:20:20.99
Bill
But, um, but yeah, i mean, you always say it that, what does it see? It's not how we act between the blank the blank. Say that again.

00:20:27.50
Mike
not how we act between the serenity prayer and the Our Father.

00:20:27.66
Bill
At a meeting.

00:20:31.50
Mike
It's how we act between the Our Father and the serenity prayer.

00:20:35.59
Bill
Uh-huh. Hmm.

00:20:36.86
Mike
Aha. Hmm.

00:20:37.93
Bill
Wait, let me ponder that for a minute.

00:20:40.02
Mike
All right, go ahead.

00:20:42.33
Bill
just No, I get it. I absolutely get it.

00:20:45.20
Mike
Right.

00:20:45.49
Bill
You know, and I do. I remember hearing that at meetings. You know, anyone can anyone could be good for an hour. You know, anyone could be good for an hour in a group.

00:20:50.04
Mike
Yeah.

00:20:51.76
Bill
You know, but um yeah, ah seriously, I mean, how are you acting out on the street? How are you acting at work?

00:20:55.16
Mike
isn't yeah

00:20:56.12
Bill
um How are you dealing with your loved ones, whether it be a significant other, your kids, your family, your parents?

00:20:58.61
Mike
Yeah.

00:21:01.01
Mike
Yeah.

00:21:01.66
Bill
um You know, are you are you being a dick to people? You know, are you cutting corners or anything like that?

00:21:06.25
Mike
Yeah, exactly.

00:21:06.83
Bill
You know, are you acting like an alcoholic or a drug addict without the without the substance?

00:21:11.41
Mike
Yeah.

00:21:11.86
Bill
You know, we can.

00:21:12.28
Mike
Yeah. You know, the checkout girl at the fucking grocery store. How are you acting, man? Right.

00:21:17.92
Bill
This you mean, am I hitting on her or?

00:21:19.87
Mike
i Well, yeah, probably, but...

00:21:21.80
Bill
Oh, okay.

00:21:21.77
Mike
ah

00:21:22.52
Bill
You're talking about like being mean to her. I can compliment her and say, Hey, hi there.

00:21:24.43
Mike
Yes. Yes. Uh-huh.

00:21:28.94
Bill
Uh, hi. yeah

00:21:30.58
Mike
Yeah. Unfortunately, now it's just a machine, and so that's a little creepy, but...

00:21:35.71
Bill
Right. Yeah. it's it's It's a picture of me and I'm hitting, I'm like, oh fuck, that's me. Stop it. Stop it.

00:21:39.85
Mike
yeah

00:21:40.08
Bill
yeah

00:21:40.49
Mike
Hey.

00:21:41.30
Bill
I'm on camera. Hey, that guy is looking kind of nice.

00:21:43.44
Mike
Right. Look at anybody finding them jeans there, boy.

00:21:45.26
Bill
yeah yeah In them blue jeans. yeah yeah Okay. So you, you made a comment about the line that said things, um, the thing, whatever it was, things that we do hurt us more than anyone else.

00:21:58.46
Bill
You said probably or possibly, Okay.

00:21:59.23
Mike
ah Yeah, right. Yeah. That was when I took a little issue with, let me crack it open and get it right here. Uh, yes, most, most often the things we used to quote unquote, get away with hurt us a lot more than they hurt anyone else.

00:22:15.24
Mike
Now I get the, I get the, you know, what they're trying to say. Yeah, clearly it's, you know, it's not good for us either.

00:22:18.40
Bill
right

00:22:21.64
Mike
Um, but, um, You know, I can't I can't think that way today because, again, that's, you know, that's selfish and self-centered shit. I need to my mindset on on that sort of thing needs to be, you know, yes, I need to do the next right thing because it's going to hurt other people more than it's going to hurt me.

00:22:39.90
Bill
right

00:22:39.95
Mike
That's just, you know, just the way I need to look at it. um So that's a little slippery for me to go, oh, it's hurting me more than it's hurting you. So I'm not going to do it because it's going to hurt me more.

00:22:51.00
Mike
Well, fuck that. No, I can't think that way anymore. I don't want to think that way anymore. So I don't. Yeah, I just, you know, yeah, it's going to hurt somebody else more it's going to hurt me.

00:22:57.53
Bill
Right.

00:23:00.73
Mike
And i don't want to do that.

00:23:02.57
Bill
And i I was pretty sure that that's what you meant, but i I wrote that down and kind of scribbled that as you were as you were saying Because I'm like, well, you mentioned that ah and pointed that out.

00:23:04.93
Mike
Yeah. Mm hmm.

00:23:11.29
Bill
So um and that that is, that's a good point.

00:23:11.82
Mike
Right.

00:23:13.01
Bill
You know, the, um I don't know, I mean, I'm not, we talked about this before for sure. I'm not afraid of relapsing or drinking anymore because it's not because I don't think it's a possibility, but as long, but there's a, there's a thing, there's a, know, as long as I do this, this and this, the chances of me doing that are, are less.

00:23:27.23
Mike
Right.

00:23:34.53
Mike
Yeah. yeah

00:23:35.87
Bill
It's never guaranteed, but um I've got a pretty good shot of staying sober today doing the things that I do, you know?

00:23:41.13
Mike
Yes, exactly.

00:23:41.89
Bill
Um, but in, you know, in days when, um, you know, cause again, I, I've said it before, you know, I, I think about the future. I have all this different shit and I've been working finances and all this different stuff.

00:23:51.29
Mike
hmm. Right.

00:23:53.54
Bill
I, my fucking mind goes all over the place. I'm, I'm in these ebbs. Everyone's ebbs. We talked about ebbs, right?

00:23:57.95
Mike
Mm hmm. Yes.

00:23:58.97
Bill
That's a low end.

00:23:59.46
Mike
Yep. Yep.

00:24:00.18
Bill
You got to I live in an ebb and I've got to pull myself up to a flow. You know, I mean, that's the that's my constant work, which is weird.

00:24:04.22
Mike
Yes.

00:24:07.80
Bill
And I'm not I'm not depressed. Fucking I don't want to say ever.

00:24:10.71
Mike
Right.

00:24:12.44
Bill
I'm sure but everyone's got a little bit of depression, I suppose.

00:24:13.37
Mike
Yeah.

00:24:14.58
Bill
But um I'm not depressed.

00:24:14.94
Mike
Yeah.

00:24:16.90
Bill
it just that's that's my mindset. Yeah.

00:24:19.16
Mike
Yeah.

00:24:20.31
Bill
But when I'm in those circumstances, if I would ever get to the point of, you know, what the fuck, then I do the same thing that we talked about. I play the tape through. And yes, I know that um I would be dead within a matter of, it'd be a very short amount of time because I would just fucking disappear and drink myself to death.

00:24:28.24
Mike
yeah

00:24:33.70
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:24:36.40
Bill
But when I disappear like that, then I think about, I mean, my my kids, number one, but I think about you.

00:24:42.07
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:24:42.89
Bill
I think about Kathy.

00:24:42.91
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right?

00:24:44.35
Bill
um You know, I mean, I even think about the people that ah that I work with. You know, I mean, they expect me to show up every day.

00:24:47.66
Mike
Yeah. Yep.

00:24:49.76
Bill
um our Our family, all of our friends, you know.

00:24:52.94
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:24:53.39
Bill
And I mean, even if I take it to a close, just a core level, I mean, figuring like, you know, you and Kathy and Johnny and this, this core group of our immediate family and and my kids involved in there.

00:25:02.40
Mike
Yeah.

00:25:04.55
Bill
And then, you know all a sudden my grandson doesn't have a grandpa anymore, you know?

00:25:04.53
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:25:07.19
Mike
Yep.

00:25:07.98
Bill
And I, I take a look at my ex-wife, all this shit. I don't, I couldn't even fucking imagine, you know, which is a good thing.

00:25:10.57
Mike
yeah

00:25:12.94
Mike
Right.

00:25:13.62
Bill
I couldn't imagine doing that or, or what it would do.

00:25:13.92
Mike
Yeah.

00:25:16.39
Bill
And not that I'm, I don't think I'm, you know, God's gift to whatever,

00:25:20.99
Mike
Yeah, exactly.

00:25:22.10
Bill
But I realized that I have worth in their lives, you know, and we, I, we've done the work to, you know, to, to give that to them.

00:25:24.69
Mike
Yeah.

00:25:29.07
Bill
And I, I don't know if that even sounds fucking weird, but it's kind of what it is.

00:25:29.67
Mike
Mm hmm. No, that sounds, yeah, exactly. we we Yeah, they count on us. What the fuck?

00:25:39.95
Mike
You know, not for everything and not, you know, center of the universe or whatever, but their they they count on us for whatever the fuck it is that we give to them. And and so, yeah, that would to take that away from them. And again, i don't want to do that today.

00:25:54.09
Mike
i want to i want to i want to give that gift to them as much as they've given it to me.

00:25:54.19
Bill
Right.

00:26:00.25
Bill
Right. You know, what's funny is that, and I, I've, I think I've, whether I've talked about it on here, I'm sure I've talked to you about this. And if my kids listen, listen to this ever, I mean, this is neither one of them are going to be surprised by this statement. They're, they're very different human beings, not just being a boy and a girl type of thing, but.

00:26:17.40
Bill
You know, I mean, now, I mean, ah Derek is, you know, he's coming up on 25 years old. You know, Kimmy's 11, 12 years older than him.

00:26:21.57
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:26:24.68
Mike
Right?

00:26:25.00
Bill
You know, so that's a big difference. Yes, I mean, females, I think it's a difference, but their age group, you know, is different.

00:26:26.41
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:26:29.40
Mike
Yeah.

00:26:29.92
Bill
Where but once Kimmy and I got back with our relationship, she was one that always reached out to me more. We have different conversations. I would say deeper conversations than Derek and I had when he was like between nine and let's say 18 20, you know

00:26:39.30
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:26:43.31
Mike
Well, sure. Right.

00:26:44.59
Bill
um But every once in a while over the last probably, you know, three, four, five years, handful of years, you know, he'll he'll reach out to me or he'll say something to me. we have this conversation. And part of me is like, I can't believe he's fucking talking to me, you know.

00:26:57.41
Bill
And I don't mean that in a bad way, you know, because I've never pushed him like, why don't you talk to me more?

00:26:58.62
Mike
No.

00:27:02.67
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:27:03.88
Bill
Open up to me. um But they him and Katie, and I don't even know i i don't even know if they went with Don Corey. don't know. They just went to Costa Rica for the week.

00:27:13.68
Mike
no

00:27:13.85
Bill
um They left ah last Sunday, and they're were getting back today. They're actually in in the midst of traveling back from Costa Rica ah right now.

00:27:22.00
Mike
Cool.

00:27:22.10
Bill
And, um you know, he had he had mentioned it to me whenever it was and told me the date. So I set a reminder.

00:27:27.37
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:27:27.49
Bill
And like, oh, I said, it's coming up on on whatever. And i actually, you know what? I think he reached out to me first a couple of weeks ago. And he said, hey, he goes, I don't think that... um I'm able to get text message messages or he goes, I don't think a cellular plan works in Costa Rica.

00:27:43.17
Bill
So he goes, um I'm going to download WhatsApp. He goes, you know would you mind doing the same?

00:27:47.88
Mike
Yeah.

00:27:50.53
Bill
So he goes, oh I can text you or whatever.

00:27:51.76
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:27:52.83
Bill
And when he said, I'm like, well, isn't that fucking nice?

00:27:55.11
Mike
Yeah, absolutely. Mm-hmm.

00:27:57.14
Bill
And, and I'm told, I'm like, I'm like, God, is, is, isn't WhatsApp kind of weird with whatever? And I said, I probably wouldn't keep it for too long, but I'm like, yeah, just, I'll take it to use it for you.

00:28:04.35
Mike
Yeah. absolutely

00:28:04.65
Bill
And, um, you know, we, ah again, didn't text back and forth a lot, but, um, It worked, you know, but, but, but the same thing, it's, it's not that he doesn't care.

00:28:09.75
Mike
yeah

00:28:14.34
Mike
um

00:28:14.59
Bill
It's just, you know, he's growing up, you know, and he's realizing some of these different things.

00:28:16.64
Mike
Right.

00:28:18.19
Bill
And, um, I don't think he realizes unless he listens to this, how important those things are to me. Um, I don't, I don't need them, but I enjoy the fuck out of them, you know?

00:28:28.31
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah, no, it's just, you know, yeah, that's it. He's being a responsible young man. Yeah.

00:28:35.14
Bill
Yeah. And it just, you know, hey, do this because I want i want to text you. I'm like, oh, that's kind of nice.

00:28:38.33
Mike
Yeah. ah Yeah. Again, worth to other people. Yeah.

00:28:43.55
Bill
Yeah.

00:28:44.03
Mike
Right. Yeah. He's going to fucking Costa Rica. He didn't give a fuck about your dumb ass and wherever you're at Arkansas. You still in Arkansas or Kansas?

00:28:50.71
Bill
Yeah, I am. Right.

00:28:51.91
Mike
Yeah. Right. Exactly. Yeah. You know, he didn't give a fuck, but yeah, but you know, just to have that, that line of communication open in case, which is cool, which is really fucking cool.

00:29:00.77
Bill
Right.

00:29:03.13
Bill
I know. And it just, like i said, you know, and he, he's still one, I give him a hard time because I'm like, ever since ah he and Katie got together, I just, if I need to know something, I text both of them. He hates a group text, but at least I'll get an answer from Katie.

00:29:12.53
Mike
Right. instance instance Right.

00:29:15.68
Bill
You know, cause it again, I understand they've, they've developed this relationship where, and she does, she knows their schedule, you know, where they're be in whatever.

00:29:21.95
Mike
Mm-hmm. Sure.

00:29:22.90
Bill
It's not that he doesn't have a say, but he's just, he's gotten very comfortable with not having to fucking worry about it.

00:29:25.33
Mike
yeah Yeah. Exactly.

00:29:27.91
Bill
Yeah.

00:29:29.33
Mike
Isn't that what women are for?

00:29:33.01
Bill
I was going to say that, I mean... um

00:29:35.35
Mike
Well, you know, dishes and meals and laundry and stuff like that, too. But I'm joking, ladies.

00:29:40.20
Bill
Right. Yeah.

00:29:41.46
Mike
I'm joking.

00:29:42.52
Bill
Yeah. You're going to take the three listeners that we have that are women and now we have none.

00:29:47.08
Mike
but

00:29:47.32
Bill
But, um you know, the funny part was, is ah is I mean, he um he got conditioned to that and comfortable with that with Dawn because she did that. when When she and I first got together, I'll never forget it.

00:29:54.62
Mike
Sure.

00:29:57.49
Bill
First time we were at Moms, I think it was when, well, yeah, we wouldve went out to Ohio.

00:30:01.50
Mike
Right.

00:30:01.61
Bill
um She brought um our calendar from home. And she ask asked mom when she was there, she said, do you mind if I write down all the birthdays for the family while while I'm here?

00:30:12.43
Bill
And mom's kind of like, of course.

00:30:13.42
Mike
Yeah.

00:30:16.25
Bill
Because then she then she looks at me kind of like, well, you never did that.

00:30:16.26
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:30:18.99
Bill
I'm like, fuck, I don't fucking, I don't know.

00:30:19.01
Mike
Yeah, of course.

00:30:19.63
Mike
Right. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, absolutely.

00:30:21.86
Bill
There's, again, two times in my life when people in my family got Christmas cards.

00:30:22.03
Mike
Yeah.

00:30:25.22
Bill
Guess when when I was married.

00:30:25.27
Mike
right

00:30:27.72
Mike
yeah

00:30:27.97
Bill
But um she was very, very good at that.

00:30:28.15
Mike
exactly

00:30:29.81
Bill
So, I mean, you know yeah, I mean, she he was he was kind of conditioned with it, but But anyhow, it was just, it was a nice moment, you know, going back to that, just having that, having that little bit, at a little bit of worth.

00:30:35.19
Mike
yeah absolutely

00:30:38.66
Bill
But the other thing too, with the, with the reading, going back to the making the bed thing.

00:30:38.96
Mike
yeah

00:30:42.99
Bill
um Yeah. I mean, that the it's, it's so goddamn simple and go back to when you were, you were on the road all the fucking time, all by yourself.

00:30:49.55
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Yep.

00:30:51.60
Bill
Nobody was looking.

00:30:53.31
Mike
Nope.

00:30:53.34
Bill
you What did you do every day?

00:30:54.15
Mike
Nope.

00:30:54.84
Bill
Like,

00:30:55.23
Mike
I made up that bunk in that truck every goddamn day.

00:30:57.76
Bill
yeah

00:30:58.57
Mike
Yep.

00:30:59.56
Bill
Well, to tie it up in case you had a lot lizard slither in too, you know, just.

00:31:04.25
Mike
Hmm.

00:31:06.44
Bill
yeah If anyone out there doesn't know what.

00:31:07.50
Mike
Yeah, that's who I was doing that for.

00:31:08.27
Bill
I'm not

00:31:09.53
Mike
Right. right

00:31:12.10
Bill
just staying sober. I'm keeping it clean for the lot lizards.

00:31:14.24
Mike
so small

00:31:16.42
Bill
and If anyone out there does not know what a lot lizard is, just look, fucking look it up. You'll get.

00:31:20.40
Mike
Google it, right?

00:31:21.35
Bill
Yeah, it's, it comes up on exactly what it is. And my, I told you that my dad, my dad taught me that when I was like fucking 17 years old or 16, 17 years old.

00:31:28.13
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:31:30.34
Bill
And I'm like, what's all it's a lot lizard?

00:31:32.29
Mike
Yeah. Uh-huh.

00:31:32.72
Bill
He explains it.

00:31:32.85
Mike
Yes. Right.

00:31:33.28
Bill
I'm like, oh, okay. Well, that kind of makes sense, you know?

00:31:34.52
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:31:36.36
Bill
But, um, all right. So back to, back to God grant me and, uh, we'll leave the lot lizards outside where they fucking belong.

00:31:39.66
Mike
yes

00:31:42.79
Mike
right

00:31:42.90
Bill
Um, what else in the reading? I mean, first of all, it was a good one, but, um, what else?

00:31:46.72
Mike
yeah

00:31:47.94
Bill
Anything else that you picked out of there?

00:31:49.11
Mike
i' You know, i I think we covered it. Yeah, you know, just to live your life the way you want to live it, you know. um what's What's the Mark quite Twain quote?

00:31:59.80
Mike
Yeah, I know.

00:32:00.35
Bill
The Mark Quaintrote.

00:32:01.94
Mike
Yes.

00:32:02.01
Bill
The Mark Quaintrote. I like that better.

00:32:03.96
Mike
Right. Yes, you know. Right. Live your life so that, you know, if you die, you're parrot, did whatever.

00:32:10.95
Bill
Oh, yeah, yeah. You wouldn't be embarrassed to have the town parrots know your gossip or something like that.

00:32:11.49
Mike
Yeah.

00:32:14.35
Mike
Yeah, exactly. some Some nonsense like that. But yeah, that's it. Yeah.

00:32:18.94
Bill
yeah Yeah. Well, do you remember, it just reminded me of ah when I got this. Well, clearly she was alive. I was say something about mom.

00:32:27.20
Mike
Yeah.

00:32:27.44
Bill
I was going to say when Bob, when Bob was a alive, but yeah, of course she would have to be alive to to do this.

00:32:29.50
Mike
Yeah. to To say something or do something. Yeah, it helps.

00:32:34.51
Bill
Yeah. I was talking to Bob yesterday and she said something. Yeah.

00:32:38.52
Mike
ah We're going to need you to pee in this cup, Bill.

00:32:39.37
Bill
And, yeah Yeah. Yes. I'm still sober.

00:32:42.49
Mike
Yeah.

00:32:42.80
Bill
Um, but no, there was a, God, probably at least a handful of years ago, if not longer than that.

00:32:46.91
Mike
Hmm.

00:32:48.18
Bill
Um, some article came up and about, ah Google, you know, tracking people and this and that, and God is even, this might be 10, 10 shit.

00:32:52.00
Mike
yeah

00:32:56.34
Bill
It might be 10 years ago. Now I think about it, it was when Derek first started driving.

00:32:57.49
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:33:00.26
Bill
So God, seven or eight at a minimum. But, um, so she said something about that. She texted you, me and Kathy. I know for sure. And with this article, oh, do this and make sure your location services are off because, you know, with maps and it can track everywhere you go.

00:33:13.86
Mike
Yeah, right. Mm-hmm.

00:33:14.77
Bill
And I remember you messaged back in your life. You're like, you're like i I don't care if anyone knows where I go.

00:33:19.03
Mike
yeah yeah right

00:33:19.51
Bill
I got nothing to hide. And then I'm like, i said, actually, I said, I don't care either. I said, it helped me just the other day. That's what it was because Derek and I had to go find a part for his car.

00:33:25.58
Mike
see

00:33:28.54
Bill
um And there was a junkyard that we went to that had like two or three of these vehicles. And I couldn't remember where it was because we went to all these different places around Milwaukee. So I look back and do what day we went and that's how I found it through Google Maps.

00:33:39.43
Mike
Yeah.

00:33:40.30
Bill
I went back to it.

00:33:40.44
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:33:42.12
Bill
um But but yeah, I'm like, if if somebody looks at i mean, if I because, you know, sometimes you you roll up to a you know a pizza place and there's a liquor store next door and then I get a pop up.

00:33:50.81
Mike
Yeah.

00:33:52.01
Bill
It's like, hey, how was DBC liquor? I'm like, I wasn't fucking there.

00:33:54.47
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:33:55.58
Bill
don't how it was.

00:33:57.12
Mike
right

00:33:57.18
Bill
But, um you know, I mean, one way or the other, I'm like, i I don't care. I don't it's it's helpful to me.

00:34:00.63
Mike
yeah

00:34:01.88
Bill
And it's actually fun sometimes to see where I've been.

00:34:02.21
Mike
see

00:34:04.84
Bill
um You know, I don't care. But that that's the thing. You know, we don't have to worry about um any of that shit, you know, which is.

00:34:10.36
Mike
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. I mean, right. You know, I mean, well, shit, you know, figure the phone's tracking me. um My work tracks me.

00:34:19.98
Bill
Right.

00:34:19.97
Mike
Yeah. ah You know, but we've got a little family thing with my granddaughter and Chris that we were on an app that tracks us, you know, all the time. We can, I can pull it up and see where we all are at any given time. And yeah I, you know, kind of like it.

00:34:34.30
Bill
Right.

00:34:34.83
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. You know, whatever.

00:34:36.44
Bill
Yeah.

00:34:37.03
Mike
Here I am. Come get me.

00:34:40.26
Bill
Yeah. Yeah. And it's, it's funny because once, ah you know, like when, once I went down to, you know, Indiana, which has been, it's coming up ah three years ago now that I went down there.

00:34:47.81
Mike
Yeah.

00:34:49.69
Bill
um But, you know, like during the week, I mean, I obviously work in remote. So, you know, you'd see Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. It's just my Google Maps is just fucking dot, you know, at the at Kathy's house.

00:35:01.22
Mike
Yeah. Right.

00:35:02.40
Bill
And then Saturday, literally, that's like the same rotation I made coming around. And then Sunday, sometimes I'd have to go here and there. um It was the same goddamn thing. the same thing when I was, you know, back in Germantown.

00:35:10.74
Mike
Yeah.

00:35:12.46
Bill
Well, Ubering was a different story and fucking now is a different story.

00:35:14.36
Mike
Sure.

00:35:16.38
Bill
yeah I look at a certain day sometimes now, i'm like Jesus fucking Christ, you know, it's all over the goddamn place. ah But One way or the other, I mean, I don't care. it's i've got I've got nothing to hide, and that's a goddamn good thing, you know?

00:35:26.66
Mike
Yeah.

00:35:29.77
Mike
Right. Everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey.

00:35:34.72
Bill
I have no idea what that means, but is it really?

00:35:37.56
Mike
It's a Beatles song. Yeah. Yeah.

00:35:40.64
Bill
Oh, okay. So I didn't know that. Okay. I learned something.

00:35:42.90
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:35:44.38
Bill
I was listening to... I started listening to... Rob Lowe has a podcast, which he's had for since the pandemic. So figure five years now, ah which I didn't know, but it came up... I forget. I was scrolling through something and there was the episode with him and David Spade came up as like a suggestion. i'm like, oh, I'd heard...

00:36:01.54
Bill
Rob Lowe had a podcast. I just, I started listening to it. Very interesting. He talks a lot about his sobriety. um I've only listened to a hand handful of them, but um he had Dana Carvey on there. Dana Carvey's a huge fucking Beatles fan.

00:36:13.52
Mike
Right.

00:36:13.72
Bill
So they were talking a little bit about that sort of thing that just, when you mentioned that, but it's good podcast. I mean, it's, it's interesting. It's um it's called literally, which is you've never watched parks and rec, right?

00:36:23.87
Mike
ah Yeah. Yeah. ah i've Yeah.

00:36:25.02
Bill
Oh, you did.

00:36:25.82
Mike
I've seen some. Sure.

00:36:26.99
Bill
Oh, okay. Well, it it was funny because he said that um the reason, I mean, the reason he named that podcast literally, and that's how he says it, that's one of his catchphrases on um Parks and Rec.

00:36:36.88
Mike
Yeah. Right.

00:36:38.22
Bill
And he's like, he goes, it took me we all those years to get a damn catchphrase. And he says, that's what it is. He goes, that's why named the podcast that, which again, very funny. But and so anyhow, I no idea that a Beatles song. So anyhow.

00:36:50.62
Bill
All right. So we covered the reading. We're all good.

00:36:53.30
Mike
Yes.

00:36:54.04
Bill
Okay, so as we were going through all this stuff, it reminded me of, we were telling a story last week about a text. A text that we got, text that you sent me for a thing that we had to do.

00:37:04.45
Mike
Oh, yes.

00:37:04.64
Bill
And that that thing happened this week. So so what happened?

00:37:06.67
Mike
it It did. That thing happened.

00:37:09.45
Bill
Right.

00:37:11.17
Mike
Well, actually, it's today um as we're recording this. our Our buddy Marty, the director of the Ed Keating Center where we got sober, ah celebrated 20 years sober today.

00:37:15.42
Bill
Right.

00:37:23.67
Bill
Yeah.

00:37:24.00
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:37:26.39
Bill
There we go. There we go. But um yeah, and it was funny because Mike and I were talking after we recorded last week because that's what the text was about. Mike got a text and um this individual was putting together this this book and trying to get stories for for Marty and all that stuff for his 20th.

00:37:35.74
Mike
Yeah.

00:37:39.88
Mike
yeah

00:37:42.68
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:37:43.50
Bill
um So that was, it was a very positive thing. Again, not nobody died.

00:37:46.64
Mike
Right.

00:37:46.97
Bill
yeah yeah Although you texted me about something this week about another another guy that was on the other side of things.

00:37:52.20
Mike
Yeah.

00:37:53.04
Bill
He didn't die, but

00:37:53.77
Mike
Well, he didn't die. he just did something really stupid.

00:37:55.16
Bill
hey Yeah, we'll talk about that in a minute. But um but yeah, so it was it in Mike and I were talking about when we first got into the Keating Center because I mean, you know, Marty just got 20 years. we We just got 15 and you know, he was he was five years sober.

00:38:06.88
Mike
Right.

00:38:08.92
Bill
He turned five years sober ah couple of weeks after we got there.

00:38:10.31
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:38:12.83
Bill
And it's same thing where Mike and I were joking last week. We're like, like, oh my God, dude's got five years and he's running the Keating Center or whatever, which again, we are not taking away from five years and not taking away from him.

00:38:17.94
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:38:24.44
Bill
Clearly not taking away from him. you know running the Keating center at five years sober. I couldn't have fucking imagined.

00:38:29.02
Mike
right ah that

00:38:30.45
Bill
um But yeah, just, it's, it's crazy to look back now think that he only had five years and, and that amount of responsibility is huge. But I mean, Jack asked him to, you know?

00:38:40.05
Mike
yeah Yeah, exactly. Yeah, on his fucking deathbed. what do you go Yeah, what are you going to say?

00:38:45.60
Bill
Yeah. Which I mean, yeah, exactly.

00:38:47.50
Mike
No. Fuck off, old man.

00:38:49.39
Bill
Yeah.

00:38:50.17
Mike
What are you going to do now? yeah

00:38:53.00
Bill
You're going

00:38:53.07
Mike
Now put me up against the wall. Ha ha ha.

00:38:56.26
Bill
yeah You're going to be dead in minutes.

00:38:57.73
Mike
if

00:38:58.36
Bill
Again, how do you act when what people aren't looking?

00:39:00.19
Mike
Right.

00:39:01.54
Bill
And Marty's looking over his back saying, fuck, is anyone here? Does anyone want to see this or hear this?

00:39:03.96
Mike
Right.

00:39:05.57
Bill
yeah He puts a pillow over Jack's head.

00:39:06.60
Mike
Are there any witnesses?

00:39:10.95
Mike
Wow.

00:39:11.65
Bill
yeah

00:39:14.03
Bill
Okay, stop. that i Mike, settle down. Settle down.

00:39:20.37
Mike
I didn't think you'd read that out loud.

00:39:24.02
Bill
But no, I mean, congratulations. Obviously, I mean, Marty is a, obviously Marty's been, um you know, ah he's been a huge part, well, a part of our sobriety from day one, you know, from the time we got in the Keating Center, ah but continues to be an influence, you know, our sobriety and also, a you know, a dear friend.

00:39:26.02
Mike
Absolutely. Yep.

00:39:33.25
Mike
me Yep. Yep.

00:39:38.60
Mike
um yeah

00:39:41.33
Bill
And, you know, we love him to death.

00:39:41.77
Mike
Yep.

00:39:43.03
Bill
And, you know, 20 years is, well, now he can say a few 24s. Fuck.

00:39:47.84
Mike
Yes, he can.

00:39:49.05
Bill
Goddamn bastard.

00:39:49.05
Mike
oh

00:39:51.63
Bill
Son of a bitch.

00:39:52.89
Mike
Yep, yeah. We're never going to fucking catch up with him.

00:39:56.14
Bill
but Well, yeah, because he'll be in a quarter of a century by the time that we get there.

00:39:57.25
Mike
Yep. Sure, why not?

00:40:00.44
Bill
You know, again, if all of us live that long, right?

00:40:04.60
Bill
So, yeah. So anyhow, um the text that you said, was that on Sunday that you sent me that text? Yeah, it had to have been.

00:40:09.76
Mike
yeah top sure why not

00:40:11.76
Bill
Yeah. Well, and the only reason I might've been Saturday, but it doesn't, it doesn't really matter. But yeah, I was, I was out in the middle of, you know, wherever. um And, you know, I had no cell phone service and I get back in and then a popped up.

00:40:18.88
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:40:21.19
Mike
Ah.

00:40:22.91
Bill
Cause I don't know. I don't know when you sent the text. I just, I ended up getting, I got like fuck four emails.

00:40:25.11
Mike
Nah.

00:40:28.11
Bill
I got a couple of reminders. I got your text. I'm like, Jesus Christ.

00:40:31.40
Mike
Right.

00:40:31.62
Bill
I ended up, I ended up pulling over so I could read your, read your text. um because it was attached to her article. But yeah, it was a, um actually the cousin of our friend, Michael, but I mean, we've known the guy too.

00:40:36.67
Mike
Yeah.

00:40:41.39
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah. Oh, yeah.

00:40:42.77
Bill
um You know, whether, whether would have been Michael or not, we've known the guy, you know, since he was, was he in and out from the time we got in there?

00:40:43.71
Mike
Yeah.

00:40:48.40
Mike
probably no I mean he may have been but um it was probably two years ish somewhere around I mean you were still here when he when he yeah yeah so you know year and a half something I mean I at one point went and picked him up and took him to the Keating Center

00:41:00.36
Bill
Yeah. Oh yeah. Yep. Yep. Cause I,

00:41:09.02
Bill
Oh, okay.

00:41:09.04
Mike
Um, yeah, you know, he was, you know, he used to go to Pyridus a lot, long time ago.

00:41:14.53
Bill
Right.

00:41:14.60
Mike
um yeah, yeah. I mean, he was in and out and blah, blah, blah, blah. But yeah, I've known the guy, you know, we were relatively close for a while there, you know, clearly he, uh, went off and did some other stuff. And so, you know, haven't been that close in a long time, but yes.

00:41:32.67
Bill
Yeah. Yeah.

00:41:32.70
Mike
Yeah.

00:41:32.87
Bill
And it was, well, well,

00:41:33.85
Mike
I considered him a friend for, you know, a while, couple years for sure.

00:41:37.55
Bill
Well, he used to be at, he was always at Founders Day. We'd see him there, which is, you know, obviously that's coming up next week.

00:41:40.73
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:41:42.52
Bill
We'll talk about that more next Friday. But um yeah, I mean, it's again, he's been he's been around our our lives for for years.

00:41:44.30
Mike
Right.

00:41:49.45
Mike
Yeah.

00:41:50.12
Bill
But um yeah, the article was, I mean, it's it's not the first one. mike My sponsors, you remember my sponsor's brother, that he did the same goddamn thing.

00:41:57.60
Mike
Yep.

00:41:58.26
Bill
Yeah. Tried to, tried to rob a fucking bank, you know?

00:42:00.10
Mike
ye

00:42:00.97
Bill
Um, so, you know, again, bad examples or whatever it is, but, um, these days that I just have to say, um, I don't, I don't understand because the way he got caught was, um, in the, uh, basically in the, in the, yeah, in the airlock, in the, in the, the foyer.

00:42:12.42
Mike
yeah

00:42:16.18
Mike
Airlock. Yeah. The two doors.

00:42:19.27
Bill
Hmm.

00:42:19.95
Mike
Right, yeah. I mean, most banks, I know my bank, and, well, don't go to my bank, but when I go to Pyridus for, puritus for you know, because I'm co-treasurer, yeah, it's got, you know, you open one door, closes behind you, then the other door opens up and you go into the bank and same to get out.

00:42:36.50
Mike
Yeah, right. You know, I mean, yeah, so he went in, did his thing, they gave him bunch money, he walked out the door, closed behind him, and they didn't open up the other one.

00:42:48.00
Mike
Hmm,

00:42:48.28
Bill
Mm-hmm. yeah

00:42:51.23
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:42:52.09
Bill
Yeah. And um there was a bank in Menominee Falls Wisconsin where I lived and it was on the the south end of Menominee Falls. So the the northwest what was called the northwest side of Milwaukee, which was a I'll say an ish area, you know.

00:43:08.63
Mike
Yes.

00:43:09.46
Bill
And Menominee Falls was, you know, considered to be a nice area for the most part.

00:43:13.17
Mike
Right.

00:43:13.45
Bill
But then there started to be like this, this overlap.

00:43:13.48
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:43:16.64
Bill
So what used to happen is there was another town called Butler, same sort of thing, a little bit south of Menominee Falls. In these two towns is where there'd be a lot of same type of thing, bank robberies, carjackings, that sort of thing, because they were right on the verge of Milwaukee or easy, you know, easy ways to get away type of thing, you know.

00:43:27.71
Mike
Right. huh.

00:43:34.22
Mike
ahha

00:43:34.91
Bill
And there was this bank. it It was an Associated Bank, which is a Wisconsin bank. um I banked there for years. And there was a branch right on this corner of Silver Spring and Pilgrim. So busy-ish roads, but right on that corner, just I think in the Milwaukee, maybe, but either way.

00:43:52.57
Bill
um That bank got robbed, um I mean, constantly.

00:43:56.83
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:43:57.18
Bill
I mean, constantly, you know, and then they, they did that. They, they closed down the bank for like two weeks and they added that in there.

00:44:03.09
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

00:44:04.30
Bill
And then, you know, some dumb fuck, you know, like ah the next week walked in there and got stuck, you know?

00:44:06.39
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

00:44:10.17
Bill
And, um, you know, it's just, I don't, I didn't think about it until I haven't been physically. I don't think I physically been in a bank in, I to go to the bank at Chase Bank in Valpo maybe a year ago for something.

00:44:23.19
Bill
I don't remember why.

00:44:23.65
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:44:24.63
Bill
um But i'm I'm trying to think in my in my head. i had to oh I went to Kathy's Bank. I had to get something notarized. And I believe the branch, I think both the branches I walked into have that area.

00:44:36.02
Mike
Yeah.

00:44:36.43
Bill
I think all of them do now, you know.

00:44:37.70
Mike
Yeah, pretty much. Yeah. You know, they stupid not to.

00:44:41.09
Bill
Right. It just went as soon as I read that. But that was what the article said that, yeah, you know, I mean, they called the cops right away and they're like, oh, yeah, we got we got a suspect and he's in this area.

00:44:48.41
Mike
Yeah.

00:44:50.59
Bill
and They're like, what is he doing?

00:44:51.23
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:44:51.55
Bill
like, even doing nothing. he's locked in there.

00:44:52.93
Mike
Yep.

00:44:54.08
Bill
And I mean, once again, we're not meaning to laugh at, but I mean, it's just that's.

00:44:59.36
Mike
ye

00:44:59.49
Bill
It's such, it's such a bad situation. He had a fake gun.

00:45:03.07
Mike
Yeah.

00:45:03.17
Bill
Um, but whatever it is, it's robbery. Number one.

00:45:05.48
Mike
Yeah.

00:45:06.37
Bill
Um, probably, I mean, even if you had a fake firearm, I think you'd get charged with whatever he's fucked, you know?

00:45:11.61
Mike
Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah. Well, yeah clearly it's not his first rodeo, so, yeah.

00:45:16.27
Bill
Right.

00:45:16.92
Mike
It's not going to be his first number. Uh-huh. Yeah.

00:45:19.00
Bill
hit Right. Right. Yeah. So, um, I mean, again, you know, just, it's, it's a shame, you know, we obviously started off that part of the conversation saying he's been around in a minimum, you know, a couple of years in you know, so for at, at a minimum, the last 12 or 13 years, um, he's bounced around and, you know, now he's, you know, whether he goes, I think for bank robbery, go for life, but he's, he's going to sit for a minute, you know?

00:45:30.07
Mike
Yeah.

00:45:33.64
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

00:45:40.71
Mike
Oh, yeah.

00:45:40.75
Bill
And, um, like you said, I mean, who knows what else he's been into, um,

00:45:45.49
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:45:46.66
Bill
Because I know, I mean, he was he was into a lot of shit for a lot of years. And um I know he's he's, this is like you just said.

00:45:50.37
Mike
Yeah.

00:45:54.05
Bill
I think it's an understatement almost to say it's not his first. I don't think it might be in the top 10 of his rodeos.

00:45:59.88
Mike
Yeah.

00:46:00.63
Bill
yeah

00:46:00.79
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:46:01.94
Bill
um But again, you know, i says say it's ah it's a yet. You know, i and didn't do that yet.

00:46:06.15
Mike
Yeah.

00:46:07.19
Bill
You know, well, thank you.

00:46:07.27
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, me neither.

00:46:08.90
Bill
You didn't get caught yet. I didn't get caught yet.

00:46:10.16
Mike
Well, no.

00:46:10.86
Bill
Yeah.

00:46:12.13
Mike
No.

00:46:12.97
Bill
ah just all that shit, you know, and I feel for the guy. I really fucking do. But these are, these are the things that happen.

00:46:16.02
Mike
Yeah.

00:46:19.51
Bill
And the only thing that I shake my head in, not even in disgust, but almost like just amazement of, wow, this again, but for the grace, there goes us, you know, that's what it is.

00:46:29.67
Mike
Yep, exactly. Exactly. Yep. Yep.

00:46:33.66
Bill
So, all right. On the, on that happy note, what do you think, Mike? Should we yeah take a little break here?

00:46:39.58
Mike
Yes, absolutely. we'll We'll be right back with more Sober Not Mature after these words from our sponsors. as is is

00:46:55.50
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome back. And yeah, um it's I texted Mike last week because when that whole thing with him with the sponsors thing and then added the Z and whatever it was, yeah, it just didn't pick up on the recording.

00:47:00.55
Mike
who

00:47:09.25
Bill
I'm sitting there. um I'm going through. I'm trying to cut it. I'm listening. I'm turning it up. I'm like, fuck, it isn't in there.

00:47:14.67
Mike
It

00:47:14.80
Bill
And then we came out of the break last week. I'm like, oh, I'm keeping it in there, whatever. And then everyone's probably like, didn't hear a fucking thing.

00:47:20.41
Mike
this

00:47:20.91
Bill
But um anyhow, so yes, this time, this time it was in there.

00:47:24.36
Mike
it was there.

00:47:26.83
Bill
So, um speaking of people listening, so we got a couple of messages.

00:47:31.03
Mike
Cool.

00:47:31.10
Bill
um First, we got a message from our new friend. I'll say new-ish friend, Tim.

00:47:39.06
Mike
Okay.

00:47:39.27
Bill
The one from, where's he from?

00:47:39.31
Mike
Ah!

00:47:41.89
Bill
Was he from Maine, I think?

00:47:43.03
Mike
ah

00:47:44.04
Bill
Yeah, the one that's, well, okay, that it says in his message. So send us a message through our podcast website. um Hey, Bill and Mike, still listening and not mature.

00:47:51.70
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:47:54.68
Mike
Nice. Nice.

00:47:55.72
Bill
My 40th anniversary is coming up on June 10th.

00:47:59.67
Mike
nice

00:47:59.97
Bill
um Just ordered a T-shirt, which he did, to bring with me to the international convention in July. We'll be spreading the word. You can be old, sober, and still not mature. okay. Then he's like, oh, still catching up on previous episodes, and it's my daily commute companion.

00:48:15.18
Bill
Have a great summer. Tim McBee, sober since 6-10-1985, and still fucking off.

00:48:21.28
Mike
Nice.

00:48:22.78
Bill
So thank you, Tim. And yeah, his, it whatever day this was, that two yeah, four days ago.

00:48:24.40
Mike
Thank you.

00:48:29.58
Bill
And actually the T-shirt just got shipped out to him yesterday, I believe. I would keep an an eye on it just to make sure.

00:48:35.70
Mike
Cool.

00:48:36.39
Bill
That's usually the the turnaround on that is relatively quick.

00:48:39.37
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:48:39.64
Bill
And then um we got a message on Instagram from one of our Cleveland friends. Okay.

00:48:46.46
Mike
Okay.

00:48:47.26
Bill
One of the Joes that we know, and I don't know if he wants to use his name, you know, kind of like, or openly use his name.

00:48:49.29
Mike
Hmm.

00:48:54.07
Bill
So it rhymes with Tang. Tang.

00:48:57.14
Mike
yeah

00:48:57.49
Bill
Joe Tang or I was thinking, but let's see if he actually listens and and see if he messages. Joe, if you heard this, I'm going to call you Joe Wang.

00:49:03.67
Mike
yeah

00:49:07.07
Mike
Wow.

00:49:10.39
Mike
ah Bill said that I didn't.

00:49:12.96
Bill
think he knows our voices. So anyhow, Joe, thank you. Here's here's the message from Joe. Hey, Bill, I listen every week. ah Listen to each episode two times during the week.

00:49:19.52
Mike
Hmm.

00:49:21.99
Mike
Wow.

00:49:22.91
Bill
I know. That's what I thought. I'm like, really?

00:49:24.56
Mike
Yeah.

00:49:24.62
Bill
It's a huge part of my routine, which is very cool. Now, um Joe has been sober.

00:49:27.18
Mike
It is.

00:49:29.55
Bill
um He'll be coming up, I believe, in July. He's coming up on 15.

00:49:35.42
Mike
Yeah.

00:49:36.24
Bill
So joe Joe's part of the group of the guys that came in that summer that we came in and is still sober.

00:49:40.08
Mike
Yep.

00:49:41.66
Bill
So, yeah, Joe's coming up.

00:49:42.00
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:49:43.45
Bill
i I'm pretty sure it's – let's see, Joe Kelly was July. He was 7-Eleven in length.

00:49:49.26
Mike
Yeah.

00:49:50.12
Bill
Mr. Wang –

00:49:51.25
Mike
Wow. Almost. see Jesus, man.

00:49:52.83
Bill
I almost did. The other, the other Joe, the other Joe came in. Maybe it's August. Either way, he's coming up. But he said a huge part of my routine. I love that you guys do this.

00:50:03.92
Bill
And we have the same thoughts on everything, probably because where we began.

00:50:06.76
Mike
Yep. Yep.

00:50:08.82
Bill
hey So then he says, tell Mike, I said, hi. Okay.

00:50:12.43
Mike
Well, high back.

00:50:14.22
Bill
yeah Because I was thinking, i heard you like, oh, when he just said, hey, Bill in here. And then I wrapped it up with that. Because mean, anyone that, I think anyone that's on Instagram knows that I'm the one that's on Instagram.

00:50:25.06
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:50:25.26
Bill
So usually people will say that, you know, make sure to tell Mike I said hi or whatever.

00:50:28.30
Mike
Right.

00:50:28.46
Bill
we've that's That's happened before. But um yeah, I didn't realize, I actually messaged Joe back and I'm like, I said, thank you, obviously for listening, whatever.

00:50:35.92
Mike
Yeah.

00:50:36.74
Bill
And I said, Hey, have you been to, uh, are you going to founder's day? And he didn't get back to me. So I don't know how often he's on Instagram. He might've just come on to actually message.

00:50:42.94
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:50:45.03
Bill
Um, but you know, Joe, if you listen to this, we will be at founder's day.

00:50:49.12
Mike
Yeah.

00:50:49.33
Bill
My phone number is no, i'm not going to do that on here.

00:50:51.59
Mike
Yeah.

00:50:54.19
Bill
Um, my phone number is the same though, as when we were at the Keating center. So as Mike's, Mike's is still the same.

00:50:57.41
Mike
yeah yeah

00:50:59.91
Bill
Um,

00:51:00.54
Mike
that yeah maybe i mean i think i did have a different one ah because i had a obama phone at first yeah so that was a different number it was probably around a year or so that i got this number so but yeah he may not have this one i don't know yeah

00:51:07.07
Bill
Oh yeah. Okay.

00:51:14.69
Bill
Okay.

00:51:17.91
Bill
Well, either way, Joe, if you, if you hear this and you're going to be a founder's day, worst case scenario, message, message us on Instagram, message Mike or me on Facebook, um get in touch with us and yeah.

00:51:23.56
Mike
yeah yeah Yeah, right. Yeah, i was going say, because I know he's on Facebook occasionally. I see stuff once in a while. Yeah, cool.

00:51:32.16
Bill
ah get Get in touch. We'll get together. And I'm going to say this to everyone.

00:51:34.47
Mike
Yeah, goddamn right.

00:51:36.28
Bill
I was, if he was going to message me back, I'm like, you know, we should have Joe on. He would be a good person to have on.

00:51:39.64
Mike
Yeah, absolutely.

00:51:40.76
Bill
So that's the other thing, Mr. Wang. I'm having too much fun with that.

00:51:44.20
Mike
Wow.

00:51:48.63
Bill
Okay. I apologize. Joe, our good friend, Joe, if you would like to be on the podcast, we would love to have you on. How's that?

00:51:54.39
Mike
Yeah, we would. and Jesus, the swipe bill.

00:51:59.48
Bill
yeah it's ah It's okay. I'll sit in the corner while we're doing the podcast, and you can talk with Joe.

00:52:06.74
Mike
yeah All right.

00:52:06.89
Bill
But no, it was really nice to hear from him, and I just don't think that – I can't remember the last time I saw him.

00:52:06.95
Mike
Right?

00:52:12.86
Bill
Founder's Day, we used to see him every once in a while, and I don't know.

00:52:15.64
Mike
Right?

00:52:16.24
Bill
It was just ah it was really it was really nice to to hear from him. so

00:52:19.78
Mike
Definitely. Cool.

00:52:20.57
Bill
So there. Yeah.

00:52:21.30
Mike
Yeah, no, that's great that he's listening. I had no fucking idea.

00:52:25.33
Bill
Yep. I had, I had no i idea either, you know, so it's, ah it is good. So thank you, Joe. And honestly, two, two times also.

00:52:29.59
Mike
Yeah, absolutely.

00:52:34.09
Bill
God, how could, how could anyone stand us once, let alone twice?

00:52:36.83
Mike
Yeah, no shit, man. didn't even listen once.

00:52:38.22
Bill
yeah Right. Exactly. Oh, speaking of that real quick, Spotify just kind of turned, they they flipped around how they do their there are statistics, which is kind of weird.

00:52:42.42
Mike
Yes.

00:52:48.52
Mike
and Okay.

00:52:48.71
Bill
um They only mark um plays now. It must be if somebody, I don't know if it's if somebody does plays the whole episode, but they're like, they're like oh, we're going to be changing some things.

00:52:57.48
Mike
Mm

00:53:00.04
Bill
Keep an eye out with the plays. We're going to be down to this and this. Then I opened it one time and I mean, it was like, I don't know. We normally have like 50 some plays on a certain date. We had like seven.

00:53:10.88
Bill
I'm like, what the fuck happened? And what it was is they're only, i think they're only tracking um like full episode plays. So if somebody um for the main part, so if somebody listens to the whole thing or maybe it's 75%, God knows, I don't even know. They didn't explain it.

00:53:28.39
Bill
So it marks that, but then they still have, they have what they call streams and downloads.

00:53:28.62
Mike
Huh?

00:53:32.39
Bill
If somebody listens to at least 60 seconds or part of, cause I've done that. I'll listen to a podcast for a certain portion and then, you know, ah forget that I had eight minutes left or something like that, you know?

00:53:38.83
Mike
Right.

00:53:43.63
Mike
yeah

00:53:43.84
Bill
Um, but anyhow, so I don't know. It's just fucking weird.

00:53:46.26
Mike
I mean, i you know, I mean, I cheat, you know, I do us, I do us on Spotify and I do us on iHeartRadio, both places you can get this fine podcast.

00:53:46.42
Bill
It just,

00:53:49.55
Bill
right.

00:53:56.14
Bill
Right.

00:53:56.23
Mike
And um yeah, no, I mean, I, I start it and then I fast forward through the whole episode and, you know, The very end plays and then it kicks off. So, and it shows that it's been played.

00:54:07.45
Mike
So I assumed that we were getting credit for that on Spotify and iHeart.

00:54:07.52
Bill
Right.

00:54:13.21
Mike
I do them both.

00:54:14.62
Bill
Yeah, I'm, I'm sure.

00:54:14.59
Mike
um but i But I don't listen. i just, you know, I make it look like I listened. Because I'm a liar and cheat and a thief.

00:54:20.30
Bill
and hey And hey, if anyone else wants to do that too, just bulk up bulk up our stats.

00:54:23.88
Mike
Oh, yeah.

00:54:25.39
Bill
I mean, we don't we don't care. I mean, hey, if you want to listen to this, great.

00:54:26.74
Mike
That's.

00:54:28.88
Bill
It's fun. but we We like having you along. That's wonderful. you know But if you listen to a little bit and you're like, yeah I can't stand this episode, just do that.

00:54:32.44
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:54:35.27
Mike
Yeah.

00:54:36.22
Bill
Forward through. you know Play it through.

00:54:37.11
Mike
Yeah.

00:54:38.05
Bill
And you know if if somebody listens on Spotify, that's going to be ah a more of a true statistic because they can truly track like a full play on that, I think. um I don't fucking know.

00:54:48.32
Bill
don't I don't understand the stats sometimes when it comes down to it. It's just they I don't know. You flip things around a little bit. But anyhow, just maybe think of that.

00:54:53.52
Mike
Right.

00:54:54.58
Bill
But but one way or the other, it's it's great. It's nice to have people, you know, especially friends of ours that are just random like that that are listening.

00:55:01.16
Mike
Yeah.

00:55:03.29
Bill
um So, you know, we we appreciate everyone out there, but it's just nice.

00:55:05.87
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:55:06.64
Bill
It's nice to have a again, whatever one of our buddies that's been around, you know, for fucking ever listening. So it's kind cool.

00:55:10.98
Mike
Yeah, exactly. Yes.

00:55:14.15
Bill
Yeah, but in an upcoming guest, this is going to be kind of funny. So I don't know if um i this kind of surprised me when when we originally got approached by this guest. So we got a approach approached by this guy, and he's he's a priest.

00:55:24.47
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:55:28.24
Bill
Okay. And his book is called The Power of Two-Way Prayer. And it's by Father Bill W., which is really fucking awesome.

00:55:36.73
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:55:40.15
Bill
And I think the guy's probably in his 70s, I think, or something like that.

00:55:42.39
Mike
Yeah, I think, yeah.

00:55:43.84
Bill
been sober again for ever, you know?

00:55:46.34
Mike
Right.

00:55:47.32
Bill
And when I, I looked at it and I ah usually same thing. I mean, I'm, I'm kind of handling and manning the emails and I sent it over to Mike and Mike's like, that sounds interesting. I'm like, really? I said, I wasn't really sure which, which way we were going to go on that.

00:55:58.91
Bill
I, it's great because two things um it's a, it's probably the, whatever the path is that we're on, it's, it's as far off the path of what, of who anyone we've ever talked to.

00:55:59.35
Mike
ah

00:56:10.34
Mike
Right.

00:56:10.51
Bill
That's, that's number one.

00:56:11.69
Mike
the

00:56:12.03
Bill
Um, but I think it'll be, it will, it'll be interesting. We've been approached by a couple of other people that have had, um, a little bit more of a religious, I'll say thing to them.

00:56:22.58
Mike
Right.

00:56:23.07
Bill
And I remember that one individual that we both looked at and we're like, yeah, this just seems really weird, you know?

00:56:28.12
Mike
missing Yeah, that that's going to be a tough one. Right.

00:56:31.63
Bill
yeah And we got back to the guy and we're like, yeah we just don't think that we'd be a good fit. and I remember his response.

00:56:36.31
Mike
Right.

00:56:37.58
Bill
He's like, he's like, oh, you're not a good fit with trying to help people get sober and stay.

00:56:42.39
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

00:56:43.30
Bill
And I'm just like, yep, that's,

00:56:44.07
Mike
Yep. yeah Yeah, we were right. a

00:56:47.52
Bill
Yeah, surprisingly enough, our spidey senses worked on that one.

00:56:50.45
Mike
Yes.

00:56:50.93
Bill
and

00:56:51.14
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:56:51.78
Bill
But no, this guy this guy seems like he's going to be great. So um he's coming up on the 20th of June. And then one of our fellow sober curators by the name of Kate, um she she approached us and I emailed her back and she didn't get back to me, but I don't see why why she wouldn't.

00:57:01.93
Mike
Right.

00:57:07.98
Bill
I added her to our our list and stuff like that. but

00:57:10.75
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:57:11.61
Bill
So she's been, and i again, I can't remember, a handful of years, six, seven years, something like that. But she's sober, a sober curator. She's a nurse. She's also has her own.

00:57:22.55
Bill
She's been trying to build for the last couple of years, few years since we've been curators. I know um she's building a coaching business and she also just started a podcast, you know, so she's got a lot of shit going on.

00:57:28.09
Mike
Right.

00:57:31.09
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

00:57:33.15
Bill
um She's married. Her husband's sober. I think he's been sober little bit more, a little bit less than her. They're not equal on their time, but right around the same range, I think.

00:57:40.83
Mike
Uh-huh. Right.

00:57:42.31
Bill
ah But he's also, you know, one of the sober curators.

00:57:42.50
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:57:44.51
Bill
So Once again, I know her, um obviously, from the meetings and things like that. I think it'll it'll be a good guess. Plus, I mean, I told Mike, I'm like, she's got a hell of a following on Instagram, too.

00:57:55.13
Mike
Right.

00:57:55.89
Bill
and And here's the thing. We are lacking female listeners. Dudes out there. I don't know what we've been. Have we been begging people? I don't know.

00:58:04.54
Mike
know.

00:58:04.84
Bill
um But for what for whatever reason, we don't get a lot of female listeners. That's why we were so curious of why Shirley was like, why she's listened to us so long but i mean she gave us the answer you know but um it'll i think it'll be interesting because hopefully um it it could maybe it'll never open up a new audience for us but it's an opportunity um you know i need not even from a selfish standpoint i think just to just to engage with a different audience so um we've got a couple of interesting guests coming up and then i just emailed you about one other thing but

00:58:13.92
Mike
ahha yeah

00:58:28.21
Mike
Absolutely.

00:58:33.90
Bill
I don't know you've got my whole point there is that for those of you who do listen and that are listening, ah we got some different things coming up here, hopefully in the next month or so.

00:58:41.73
Mike
Yeah. Yes. and And hopefully, right.

00:58:44.07
Bill
So there.

00:58:45.19
Mike
And it'll be a mildly entertaining as always.

00:58:49.42
Bill
Exactly. Mildly entertaining as always. Okay. So there was a, I know a few things I wrote down this week. I'm going to, at one point I'm just going to start poking through some of these old things. I don't even give a shit how, how bad they sound or whatever they are.

00:59:02.26
Mike
Right.

00:59:02.37
Bill
i don't even know old some of these things are.

00:59:02.56
Mike
Oh, yeah.

00:59:04.38
Bill
you know, I got some of the same things written down twice. Cause that's how long they've been on this list. All right. So um most recent one I wrote down, it says ah this is from Keep It Simple the other day.

00:59:16.10
Bill
Higher power teach me to really live one day at a time. So there's a reason I wrote that down and not sure why I made me think of it.

00:59:21.14
Mike
the

00:59:23.19
Bill
But if you were trying to somebody it was newly sober, ah because, I mean, one day at a time is just thrown out there like who knows, just fucking thrown around out there.

00:59:30.52
Mike
right so yeah

00:59:32.52
Bill
Um, how would you explain or teach somebody or even guide somebody on how to live one day at a time?

00:59:39.60
Mike
Right. um Well, it's, you know, it's all about living in the present, you know, explain to them, you know, the past is past. It's already happened. There's nothing we can do about it. And the future is hasn't happened yet. and There's nothing we can do about it It's right now. This is the only you only control, the only power that we truly have is right now in the moment.

01:00:04.23
Mike
And you know that's kind of important to us alcoholics and drug addicts, you know control and power. i believe lack of power, that is our dilemma.

01:00:13.36
Bill
Right.

01:00:13.39
Mike
And, you know, we try to control fucking everything. So, well, if you want to control something, yeah goddam i drunk you drunk, here, control this goddamn moment because that's all you can do anyway.

01:00:22.07
Bill
Yeah.

01:00:23.61
Mike
um

01:00:23.86
Bill
yeah

01:00:24.08
Mike
Yes. and what And, you know, ah clearly the the original intent of one day at a time is stay sober today. You know, um, don't worry about staying sober for 10 years or 15 years or 20 years or, you know, cause that's fucking impossible.

01:00:39.80
Mike
You know, I, I still don't know how the hell we've stayed sober for 15 years, but here we are. Um, you know, and it's, we joke, but it's true.

01:00:44.50
Bill
Right.

01:00:47.77
Mike
You know, how'd you do it one day at a time?

01:00:50.61
Bill
Right.

01:00:50.85
Mike
Um, yeah. Stay sober today, you know, tomorrow, who knows? You know, I, I remember very early on, um, uh, yeah, you know, it, it, we, I'd sit there, this other guy that was there with us even before we were hanging out and we'd look at each other and we're going, yeah, man, we'd sit, we're staying sober today.

01:01:11.51
Mike
Tomorrow. Oh, fuck it. Tomorrow, man, we're, we're fucking it up. We're doing everything, you know? yeah And it was kind of, you know, and i literally first couple of weeks of being sober.

01:01:24.43
Mike
It was, yes, we were joking, but no, we weren't. It was almost, know,

01:01:28.48
Bill
right

01:01:30.33
Mike
It was almost helpful. You know, you're, you know, fuck man. You've been, you haven't had your best friend in a week. Um, you know, suck. Yeah. Okay. Today, today we won't, we will, we will stay sober today.

01:01:44.37
Mike
Tomorrow. Oh God, we're doing it all. We're smoking crack. We're shooting heroin. We're drinking vodka. We're fucking, we're doing everything, but today we'll stay sober tomorrow.

01:01:55.12
Mike
Right. And then the next day it's fuck. Well, tomorrow is now today.

01:01:58.18
Bill
Tomorrow is today.

01:01:59.26
Mike
So today we'll stay sober tomorrow though. Fucking a man, we're going, we're fucking shit up. We're burning this fucking place down, you know? And again, it was, it was, it was a mild exercise you you know, the possibilities of, you know, and it's still to this day, possibilities tomorrow. I'll fucking burn my house down tomorrow.

01:02:22.80
Mike
You know, I'm not mowing the lawn. I'm burning the whole fucking house down tomorrow today. all right. I'll up sweep up by my door and, you know, make my bed and pay my electric bill. And by tomorrow, fucking a man, give me a match.

01:02:39.23
Bill
Right? Yeah, I mean, if you're if you're going to burn your house down, man, call me. I mean, I'll i'll come tomorrow. I'm not coming today, but I'll i'll come tomorrow when I help you.

01:02:44.45
Mike
Yeah. Bring marshmallows. Yeah. Yup.

01:02:48.72
Bill
Bring a can of gasoline and a bag of marshmallows.

01:02:52.11
Mike
All

01:02:54.59
Bill
But yeah, you know, and so many people talk about, and I, I see it a lot on social media these days too, you know, for, you know, individuals that are newly sober and, um, you know, sometimes it is, it's a, I mean, yeah, it's one day at a time.

01:03:05.53
Bill
Sometimes it's one hour at a time. Sometimes it's one minute.

01:03:07.28
Mike
right.

01:03:08.72
Bill
It's, it's whatever the case is.

01:03:08.96
Mike
Yeah.

01:03:10.65
Bill
And, you know, there, I don't know what's the typical thing that we can, we can all handle, um, small pieces, small morsels, you know,

01:03:18.53
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:03:20.25
Bill
um to To this day, I don't want to take on, I don't, it's not that I get, I don't get overwhelmed. I mean, I get whelmed.

01:03:27.89
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:03:28.40
Bill
You know, I've said that before, you know, but um it's certainly not under, um but I don't think I'm overwhelmed.

01:03:28.63
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:03:32.29
Mike
Right. Well, I get underwhelmed quite a bit, but go ahead.

01:03:35.41
Bill
hey Well, can't buy it by other people. You're like, yeah, that was, that was underwhelming.

01:03:38.32
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

01:03:40.31
Bill
But I mean, me and my personal life, I got, I've got plenty to keep me busy where I'm not underwhelmed with the, the activities in my life, for instance.

01:03:47.70
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:03:48.39
Bill
Um, but from, you know, an overwhelming standpoint, you know, it's just, if, if shit starts to come at me, I've got to, I've got to step back be like, Jesus Christ. And if nothing else, grab a piece of paper and I write this shit down.

01:04:00.42
Bill
And that might be, there's there's only, um well, two things that I still put on paper. um I still keep a check register.

01:04:09.42
Mike
Right.

01:04:09.51
Bill
um I know very few people do that. know young people don't do that.

01:04:13.46
Mike
Right.

01:04:13.70
Bill
um it's a It's a comfort thing for me. And it's, um I'm usually off a little bit. I don't balance my checkbook unless I'm, because I'm always, for for years now, and I'm talking years, I've always been

01:04:19.26
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:04:25.00
Mike
Mm-hmm. All

01:04:26.79
Bill
It'll vary between five to 20 bucks under what my bank balance is online um all the time.

01:04:30.62
Mike
right.

01:04:31.84
Bill
And I don't know where the difference comes in. And I don't care as long as it's not the other way around.

01:04:35.31
Mike
Right.

01:04:36.03
Bill
You know, but if it's the other way around, when I look at it's because I added something wrong and I go through my check register and I figure it out. But the other thing that I write down is my budget.

01:04:44.22
Mike
Right.

01:04:44.68
Bill
I can put my budget and I have a printed out one that I've had that I used as a guideline, but especially with doing all these different things that I've got certain things charged over here for these trips and over here, and I'm trying to budget fucking gas money.

01:04:56.27
Bill
my My bills are not the same every month.

01:04:56.36
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:04:58.11
Bill
They are to a certain extent, but they're not.

01:04:58.73
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm. Right.

01:05:01.06
Bill
So I write it down. I have to, you know, and it's a, um, the, the check register, I think is a comfort thing for me.

01:05:03.45
Mike
Yeah.

01:05:07.24
Bill
It's just being able to see that.

01:05:07.47
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:05:09.10
Bill
Um, other than everything's on my phone because I can't have all the shit in front of me. It's too, then it gets too well overwhelming.

01:05:14.34
Mike
Yeah.

01:05:14.90
Bill
You all this stuff, but then I have to, but the thing of it is though, is that if I, if I do, if I get all freaked out about what some things I have to do, um, I do, I just, I put it down on paper and I write down what are the things I have to do, you know, um, whatever the case is.

01:05:15.12
Mike
Right.

01:05:23.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:05:27.73
Mike
Right.

01:05:29.59
Bill
And it just, it is, it's, small morsels even at like you said as unbelievable as it is after 15 years and you're right it's still fucking mind blowing it'll continue to be at 16 and 17 years too you know again we're not fronting if it happens but

01:05:37.17
Mike
Uh-huh. Yes. Yep.

01:05:45.17
Mike
Nope. Right.

01:05:47.42
Bill
Um, but I don't know. Yeah, it's just, it's that small morsels, but I just thought about that. I, um, I just, nothing I really ever comp, you know, tried to, really think about, you know, or, or comprehend, uh, you know, or try to just kind of break down. How do you explain one day at a time? So that's a good point though.

01:06:03.36
Mike
Yeah.

01:06:03.55
Bill
It's just saying that, you know, again, the small morsels and, you know, even, even using that, that ridiculous exercise where we're going to, going to fucking blow the world up, you know?

01:06:11.26
Mike
Yep.

01:06:13.09
Bill
And it's not ridiculous. It's a great way. Again, go back to comfort. That's probably a comfort thing.

01:06:17.08
Mike
Yeah, absolutely.

01:06:19.67
Bill
I only got to be good right now because at tomorrow I'm fucking this shit up going fucking crazy hookers cocaine.

01:06:23.30
Mike
Yep.

01:06:26.12
Mike
Yeah.

01:06:28.66
Bill
And we're burning Mike's house down.

01:06:30.09
Mike
Yeah.

01:06:34.18
Bill
ah All right. So, um, this one, I got out of touchstones and I don't know if this was recent, but doesn't matter. um It was touchstones. The reading was talking about balance, something obviously you bring up a lot.

01:06:46.11
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

01:06:46.61
Bill
um And that's the reason that I that i wrote this down. It said, help me find more balance and learn to be more aware. Okay.

01:06:54.15
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:06:54.35
Bill
So my question though, is that when do you think that you started to find balance in recovery or did it just happen? i don't know. It just happened or was it a conscious thing? So when did balance come into your recovery, do you think?

01:07:08.51
Mike
ah

01:07:11.08
Bill
What time is it?

01:07:12.06
Mike
Right. Um, yeah, you know, I mean, it just kind of happened. Um, it certainly wasn't a conscious thing. Once it started happening, then I started noticing it and then I, I, you know, started being grateful for it.

01:07:27.32
Mike
Um, that's funny. You brought that up. Cause I mean, a couple of days ago, actually, um, earlier this week, um, there was some shit that was definitely out of balance.

01:07:38.81
Mike
Um, you know, the scales were tipping one way and, uh, not really, not anything I did just, you know, people in my life and there was some shit going on. Right.

01:07:49.78
Bill
Right.

01:07:50.01
Mike
And, uh, and I'm like, uh, you know, and I, I did not like it. I consciously did not like it. No, I mean, I, that those words were in my head. I do not like this.

01:08:02.58
Mike
Um, but, Um, I, I, but it's funny. It was also, um, it was kind of the same time that, um, my phone was blowing up from the family text about the, uh, you know, the, in August when everyone's going to get together here in the Cleveland area.

01:08:21.79
Bill
Right.

01:08:22.52
Mike
Right. And so, i you know, I had to sit there and go, okay, yes, on this side of the scale, there's this shit going on. And on the other side of the scale, there's all this wonderful shit going on.

01:08:35.56
Mike
And, you know, and I went, all right, well, you know what? it kind of is balanced. It's, it's, it's not the balance that I want, but it's balanced. There's like extra good shit going on while there's this extra bad shit going on.

01:08:50.99
Mike
And, um, I took a little comfort in that went, okay, I, you know, and, and guess what? The bad shit is kind of evening out and it's getting better and it's good. And, you know, and whatever, the the family stuff is like fading. Cause you know, there was all this flurry of activity and now it's,

01:09:06.66
Mike
Two months away, so who gives a fuck?

01:09:08.79
Bill
Right.

01:09:08.79
Mike
um So it is balancing back out. But yes, it was, the balance was still there. It was just not the way I wanted it to be.

01:09:18.16
Bill
Right. Yeah. And that, uh, that is kind of, so you actually had, an in life, in flight gratitude list happen.

01:09:26.81
Mike
Yes.

01:09:27.65
Bill
And it's just, that's what it reminded me of. It reminded me of almost like a pros and cons list when you were explaining that.

01:09:32.69
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

01:09:33.98
Bill
And it doesn't even matter what the good and the bad shit was. It just, okay, I got this over here and I get this over here.

01:09:36.33
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

01:09:39.01
Bill
and And that was, that's kind of funny.

01:09:40.34
Mike
And and yeah then I did make the conscious decision to focus on the good, which is definitely not my go-to.

01:09:40.41
Bill
I mean, but, uh,

01:09:45.21
Bill
right.

01:09:48.14
Mike
ah But it kind of is now, which is nice. you know yeah Okay. This other shit's going on. It will. And like I said, it's it's balancing back out and it's taking care of itself as it always fucking does.

01:10:02.22
Mike
And we'll faith there. And, um yeah, you know, so at the in that moment, one day at a time, one moment at a time, um I chose to focus on the good shit.

01:10:14.26
Mike
And, hey, guess what?

01:10:14.79
Bill
Right.

01:10:16.35
Mike
It's two, three days later and here I am.

01:10:19.51
Bill
Right. And with, with that weekend. So you guys are, you guys are looking at coming down the, the, the second weekend. Well, yeah, they wouldn't be there the first, cause they're coming down there.

01:10:25.59
Mike
Yeah.

01:10:27.57
Bill
The first way it's going to be Monday through Monday, I think.

01:10:29.48
Mike
yeah Yeah.

01:10:30.29
Bill
Okay.

01:10:30.28
Mike
Right.

01:10:31.37
Bill
So, and I, right.

01:10:31.98
Mike
Yeah, it's in our's our anniversary weekend, the weekend before. So we'll be at Port Clinton.

01:10:35.64
Bill
right Oh, yeah, that's right. Okay, so, because I get, Kimmy actually called me the other day because the, so they're going to Lollapalooza on that Sunday, so we wouldn't be able to come out to Ohio until Monday anyhow, because I was trying to figure out, I'm probably going, not need to, but I'm probably going to take Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday off, I think.

01:10:48.62
Mike
Right.

01:10:54.52
Mike
Yeah.

01:10:55.09
Bill
Yeah.

01:10:55.54
Mike
Uh huh.

01:10:56.83
Bill
But I'll need to come out to Cleveland first, drop all my shit at your house on Monday, go down to Chippewa Valley, hang there for Monday night, Tuesday, Wednesday, go back up to Cleveland, work Thursday, Friday.

01:10:59.92
Mike
Right.

01:11:05.64
Mike
Yep.

01:11:08.31
Bill
And then when I saw you guys coming down, I'm like, oh, okay

01:11:10.70
Mike
Yeah.

01:11:10.89
Bill
So one way or the other, whether it's, you know, me going back down there, just pack up all my shit and, you know, come down there for the night and then head back to Indiana or i don't know.

01:11:16.61
Mike
Yeah.

01:11:21.52
Bill
maybe I don't know what else I'm doing in August. Maybe I'll go someplace else. Yeah.

01:11:24.45
Mike
Right. Hobo. Hee hee hee hee hee.

01:11:25.44
Bill
I don't fucking know. um Well, you know what? And here's here's the thing.

01:11:28.85
Mike
he

01:11:29.75
Bill
And the it's funny because it's this goes back to what I was talking about before. My focus is always on the money sort of thing. i've been doing okay. But, you know, like this this month I had a down month.

01:11:43.16
Mike
Right.

01:11:43.22
Bill
So I budget out usually two paychecks a ahead. And, you know, things are going to be tight. Not this paycheck, but the paycheck after that because that's a normal non-commissioned one.

01:11:51.14
Mike
Right.

01:11:51.53
Bill
And then I get a commission one, but then it's a down one for this month. So I'm going doubt. It's, I don't know what I'm doing yet, you know, over the, over the next couple of months, but the only trip I had planned June's kind of covered, um, you know, between obviously going back to Indiana this week, um, founders day, you know, obviously for the weekend,

01:11:57.96
Mike
Yeah. Yep. Right. yeah

01:12:03.42
Mike
isn

01:12:07.31
Mike
yeah

01:12:09.79
Mike
right

01:12:10.08
Bill
um I'm going to be up in Wisconsin the weekend of the 14th. That's Father's Day. And I think I'm going to hang out with a friend of mine that Saturday night. Maybe stay stay by her that night.

01:12:20.78
Bill
And then so that after that weekend, now that's almost the end of June. And then Fourth of July weekend, I'm going down to Kentucky just a weekend, you know. And then I don't know after that, but I mean, then I got some time. i'm not My whole point is I'm not spending a lot of money, but this is where I got to psych myself back down. Yeah.

01:12:38.99
Bill
And be like, I'll be okay. I just kind of, I can't, you know, spend like a, you know, fucking whore on, you know, a whorehouse on dollar day or whatever it is.

01:12:42.14
Mike
right

01:12:46.26
Bill
No, that would be the other way around. No, it was dollar day.

01:12:48.35
Mike
yeah all right yeah

01:12:48.92
Bill
I'd be able to spend whatever I wanted in a whorehouse.

01:12:53.30
Bill
But, um but yeah, so I mean, one way or the other, I think that it'll be nice. So I might do, you know, again, that because Kimmy is trying to figure out how to come down and with Brian and Ollie and driving and whatever.

01:13:02.32
Mike
right mm-hmm yeah yeah cool

01:13:03.82
Bill
So I'm like, you figure it out, we'll figure it out with you type of thing and go from there. So. But yeah, it'll be nice. But yeah, I'm glad you brought that up because that was a real life, not only balance, but also literally like a real life gratitude list in front of you.

01:13:16.96
Mike
Yeah, uh-huh.

01:13:19.94
Bill
All right. So let me grab one more of these sobriety things. And then I got i got got a couple other things. I want to tell my Branson story and the one the one thing. And then I got a couple of things in the article or articles.

01:13:31.29
Bill
All right. So um this one is from God Grant Me. The reading was talking about times when we felt, oh, I don't remember this one.

01:13:42.05
Bill
Okay. when we Times when we felt a pull to help somebody. So something pulling us that said, we got to help somebody.

01:13:46.56
Mike
Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:13:48.41
Bill
This was just this week, I think. Um, have you ever had that? Have you ever had that gut feeling or instinct that you need to help somebody? Um, and I, I put in parentheses, I don't know if this makes sense because my question is that gut feeling. I just, I don't know if that even makes any, any fucking sense, but, um, I don't We'll run with it.

01:14:08.54
Mike
Well, ah yeah, I do remember reading that. and um i I did actually think about it a little bit. um

01:14:17.13
Bill
Really good. Okay.

01:14:17.84
Mike
Yeah, right. Well, so yes, the gut feeling, it's... Okay, so like for me... the opportunity presents itself to help someone. Clearly someone needs some help right in front of me.

01:14:31.80
Mike
Right. Um, I don't know about a gut feeling cause my gut feeling is well, fuck them. Um, you know, uh, yeah, basically.

01:14:39.90
Bill
Right.

01:14:40.79
Mike
Right. Well, it kind of comes down to, you know, ah the, the reading we had earlier too, you know, that we have worth now and bla blah, blah, blah, blah. Um, you know, and, and my, inner government tells me I'm fucking worthless and and there's nothing I can do anyway.

01:14:54.81
Mike
um So, yeah, you know, when the when when someone needs some help and and they they're open to the help, which is a huge thing, um you know, because I mean, I see fucking shit around me all the time.

01:15:07.00
Bill
Right.

01:15:10.66
Mike
You know, ah Jesus Christ. Yeah, I can help this person out. You know, I get off the freeway. I see people that I could help, um but it won't do anything because they really don't want help. They just want a dollar.

01:15:22.52
Bill
and Right.

01:15:22.50
Mike
Um, um, yeah.

01:15:23.53
Bill
Right. Yeah.

01:15:26.33
Mike
So, but if, yeah, but when that opportunity comes where someone actually needs help and are willing to take the help and, and use the help in the proper way, um yeah, you know, I'm, I'm all for it.

01:15:41.91
Mike
I definitely, um, it's again, not my nature and not my first instinct and there's no gut feeling for that, but, yeah, But i'm I'm certainly glad when I can do it.

01:15:51.71
Bill
Right.

01:15:54.72
Mike
um I'm grateful that I get to do that. But um yeah, you know, ah yeah, that gut feeling. No, I don't have that.

01:16:04.27
Bill
right

01:16:04.24
Mike
It's not the way I'm fucking built.

01:16:06.44
Bill
Well, and that's why I wasn't sure if the if my question was even making any sense because I didn't – and same deal.

01:16:10.75
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:16:12.38
Bill
I try not to think about these things too much as i if ah it's something i'm going to write down. But um I don't – I can't say never because I don't – if I have, I don't remember.

01:16:16.17
Mike
Right.

01:16:23.08
Bill
ah But I don't remember a moment where I was sitting in a chair and all sudden it's like – boop, I need to go help somebody, you know, this overwhelming, again, this pull, this, um, supernatural, you know, or unnatural, whatever you want to call it.

01:16:30.62
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:16:36.57
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:16:38.76
Bill
Um, you know, you know what talking about?

01:16:39.33
Mike
ah yeah yes i do

01:16:40.53
Bill
Some, some thing. um but I mean, I know for a fact, if, if I wasn't, um, operating right as a sober individual, I might be at the point where I'm like, I got to get out.

01:16:53.40
Bill
I got to get out and do something. I get to go to a meeting and be in front of people, um have that opportunity to to deal with people. And then at that point, who knows, maybe you can help somebody, you know?

01:17:03.31
Mike
Right.

01:17:04.25
Bill
um But I, yeah, it's same deal. Is it when, and I think, well, even think you and I are on the same page and in the mindset where if we are asked to do something or help somebody or assist in whatever situation,

01:17:18.28
Bill
We're going to unless there's a ah legitimate reason why we can't.

01:17:21.71
Mike
Right.

01:17:21.96
Bill
And I say legitimate because we're not going to make it up and say, I can say this. They don't fucking know anyhow.

01:17:25.58
Mike
Oh, yeah. Right. I'll find a reason.

01:17:29.18
Bill
Yeah. I mean, I can, I can find a like I can get out of anything. I, I can talk my way out of anything.

01:17:33.80
Mike
Yeah. We have.

01:17:35.63
Bill
Yeah, exactly.

01:17:35.81
Mike
Right. We're good at it.

01:17:37.02
Bill
I, I, I could do that because I get a clear head so I can, I can lie better if I wanted to.

01:17:37.75
Mike
Uh-huh. Sure.

01:17:43.10
Bill
Um, but I don want to do that these days. So if that happens, yes, I'm more than happy to do it, but it just, I don't think I've ever had that again, that never been drawn to. I've got to go help somebody.

01:17:54.08
Bill
be

01:17:54.47
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:17:56.11
Bill
That would sound like a ghost. i didn't mean even that way, but I don't even know how to put it. Just know I've never had that. I've never been drawn to. I got the calling.

01:18:05.09
Mike
Great.

01:18:07.37
Bill
I've been called by the Lord.

01:18:09.20
Mike
Right. Grab the back of the TV and feel the power.

01:18:13.39
Bill
yeah I forgot to tell you that the last time, cause I've been in Arkansas now. Um, No, not just not just here, the the amount of time here, but this is the third time I've actually spent time in the state.

01:18:24.43
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:18:24.69
Bill
um you It's beautiful. I fucking love it around here. If I ever settle someplace, it doesn't necessarily have to be Arkansas, but I want to be around a place with mountains because it is just I just drove down to get my pizza.

01:18:33.54
Mike
Right.

01:18:36.93
Bill
Driving down there is not that big of a deal. i mean Nice windy road coming down. It's 11 minutes away, right?

01:18:42.82
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:18:42.94
Bill
Um, but coming back in, when you come up over this little rise, you see, it's this whole like open space. And then this mountain in the background and Hills on the side, I'm like, it's just fucking beautiful, you know, side note though.

01:18:53.72
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:18:55.54
Bill
Um, but every time I've been down here and I don't think about it at the time, I keep forgetting to tell you, I should count how many churches there are down here.

01:19:03.52
Mike
hu

01:19:04.87
Bill
um there They're fucking everywhere, which is fine.

01:19:07.55
Mike
Right.

01:19:07.79
Bill
you know But I'm like, um like how how can all these churches support themselves?

01:19:08.02
Mike
Yeah. Right.

01:19:12.21
Bill
You go down a road and there's 17 of them.

01:19:12.69
Mike
Yeah.

01:19:14.09
Bill
you know

01:19:14.35
Mike
Right.

01:19:14.94
Bill
I just don't know how they they can all support themselves. And they're not all like rundown shack buildings or anything like that.

01:19:20.83
Mike
Yeah.

01:19:21.50
Bill
I've seen a couple you know going back into certain areas that are like just these one room cabin type of churches.

01:19:22.77
Mike
Right.

01:19:27.20
Bill
But um again, ah lot of churches.

01:19:27.67
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:19:30.37
Bill
that's

01:19:30.81
Mike
Yeah.

01:19:31.56
Bill
Nothing to do with anything, but just actually just kind of funny.

01:19:33.13
Mike
Yeah.

01:19:35.68
Bill
But yeah, so I haven't gotten a calling that way one way or the other.

01:19:39.44
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:19:39.52
Bill
But all right, so real quick, the the Branson story, I think you'll relate to this. So i was I was in a condo and it was nice. I was in this condo complex, which was, it's this huge area where a bunch of condos, there are some mobile homes and stuff, but nice mobile homes in this area that we were in.

01:19:57.99
Bill
um Or that I was in this time and was in last time. And it's just more in the back of this, this complex. And it's the, um I was on, well, technically the second floor.

01:20:09.29
Bill
And it's It's a loft one. So, I mean, you've got this whole, almost like this two-story condos in these buildings.

01:20:14.46
Mike
Right.

01:20:15.03
Bill
And looks like they're like that in a lot of them, and which is nice because nobody above you don't have to worry about that.

01:20:19.35
Mike
Right.

01:20:19.43
Bill
So, first of all, extremely quiet, more so than the ones I was in before. I was in more of a, almost like what I would consider to be apartment-style condos in the last one. Still nice, you know, but um just different than this.

01:20:33.47
Bill
And the, the balcony area, um, it's not private. You walk out and it's open to everything, just like an apartment complex, which not a lot of people around, no big deal.

01:20:40.70
Mike
right

01:20:43.57
Bill
But I walked out one day, um, and it might've been either like the Monday or Tuesday I was only there a week, but it was early. It was either Monday or Tuesday. And was standing it outside on one of my breaks, looking at my phone and just hitting my vape. And I smelled cigarette smoke. I didn't think anything of it, but kind of glanced to the left. So i'm I'm facing out from the building.

01:21:03.34
Bill
So to the left and in down, there was this older guy. And he's sitting in his chair, feet up on another chair, smoking a cigarette. like, oh, okay, well, somebody else is here, right?

01:21:11.63
Mike
Right. Right.

01:21:12.07
Bill
And, but I looked up, Oh, don't look at, don't look at him because I don't want to be bothered, you know, because I'm just, I I'd rather just, I'm doing my thing and I'm working and whatever.

01:21:15.07
Mike
Yeah. right yeah

01:21:21.66
Bill
So, um, he's not out there every time, but then it's like one of the times I came out, um, he said, i think it was the next day. So that would have been Tuesday. You know, I hear him just, Oh, good morning. And I just acted like I didn't hear him. So like, I don't want fuck. I don't fucking talk to this dude. don't know who you are.

01:21:35.76
Bill
want to talk to you. So later that day, he's like, he's like, Hey, can I ask you a question? I'm like, Oh, fuck me.

01:21:42.01
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:21:42.78
Bill
Fuck me. And I just said, I said, make it quick.

01:21:44.48
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:21:46.29
Bill
Cause I said, I'm working. And he's like, well, I see you're, you know, using that vape. He goes, do you think that could help me quit smoking? And I'm like, takes the edge off. He just sits there like looking at me and I'm in my head. I'm like, does that answer your question?

01:22:00.52
Bill
Can I like walk away now?

01:22:00.70
Mike
ah ha

01:22:02.66
Bill
And, uh, he's like, oh, and then the, the rest of the time I just fucking ignored him. But I'm just like, I don't want to talk to you. have no idea what you, I don't know who you are. I don't want to sit there and have a conversation with you, which for people who know me, you included everyone that listens to me fucking yammer on here.

01:22:10.06
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:22:17.64
Bill
Um, But in my own personal life, there are just times I don't walk around and just want to have random fucking conversations with people, you know?

01:22:24.32
Mike
Right.

01:22:25.30
Bill
And that's why some of these places, a lot of them that I've been at, like this place, it's private. If the condos I've been at, if it's, if it's got walls on the side, I like that. Cause I can just sit and I can relax, you know?

01:22:34.98
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:22:35.29
Bill
Um, but then I went to this, uh, this trail that I went to out there. And did you see the picture where I said I drove across the Creek? Yeah.

01:22:42.57
Mike
No.

01:22:44.60
Bill
So I look at this and i did this on I did this on purpose, went to this trail. It's got like off the beaten path, not a lot of reviews on it or anything like that. It had been months since anyone reviewed it. um And I'm like, those are the ones I want because it's something, you know, kind of out in, it's not a lot of people, but also to me, kind of more of an adventure type of thing.

01:23:00.65
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:23:00.85
Bill
So like, it's just out in the middle of nowhere. nowhere But I mean, literally, and I knew this was a long, I didn't know how long it was, but it was a nine mile gravel road. Okay.

01:23:10.27
Mike
Nice.

01:23:10.47
Bill
Gravel, gravel and dirt road. It was 45 minutes away or no, that was when I was here. I'm sorry. first weekend I was here. 45 minutes away. um and 20 miles. Okay. Or something like that. yeah But nine of that was this gravel road.

01:23:24.78
Bill
So I'm driving along and I forgot, looking at all these different trails. But this one said, that the guy's like, oh this and that. It's not this, whatever. And blah, blah, blah. And he's, some of the negatives out, but I'm trying to read through the positives.

01:23:35.63
Bill
But he's like, he goes on top that. goes, I had to drive across a creek. I forgot that. Okay. So, and I'm not, I'm not shitting you. It's a nine mile road and I'm seven miles in. Okay.

01:23:46.13
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:23:46.63
Bill
Seven miles in this road to get back to the trail. And I started to come up on a clearing and then I look and I'm like, oh fuck, there's a goddamn fucking Creek.

01:23:55.15
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:23:55.58
Bill
And it's been raining a lot around here. Not ah probably now it'd be, it'd be worse after all the rain. But I pulled up to it and I get out of my car and i'm like, I'm like, oh, this is fine. Cause you could see the area where you, where you drive across, you could see the rocks.

01:24:07.76
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:24:08.29
Bill
It was just kind of bubbling over the rocks, maybe two, three inches of water.

01:24:10.16
Mike
Right.

01:24:12.02
Bill
I'm still careful driving through it, but I'm like, I just drove across a Creek. Yeah.

01:24:16.82
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:24:18.73
Bill
But I would have been just had, had it been, um, cause I went down by the the Buffalo river that was down here. The first day I was here, um, I went down and you could, you could actually not only drive down this thing, but drive out on these rocks and river was really low.

01:24:32.47
Bill
Um, by last weekend, um, it was not only full, but I mean, swollen all the way to the edges. Um, crazy, you know, but, um, just, I mean, the amount of rain down here is just fucking nuts, but,

01:24:45.66
Bill
Yeah, the the guy in Branson was the one that cracked me up the most because I'm just like, I don't want to fucking talk to you. Just leave me. Leave me alone. And again, I'm not antisocial. I just want to, I don't know, just leave me the fuck alone.

01:24:55.78
Mike
Right?

01:24:56.98
Bill
and That's why I thought you might be able to relate to that.

01:24:59.73
Mike
yeah A little bit.

01:25:03.32
Bill
See, I'll just be that the best way possible. You know, sometimes you just want to sit like you you.

01:25:05.26
Mike
Sure.

01:25:07.24
Bill
If you sit on your porch, which I know you do sometimes, you just want to sit out there and just be, right?

01:25:09.29
Mike
Yeah. Sometimes. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely.

01:25:15.50
Bill
All right, so um I don't remember what these articles are, but how do you feel about an article or two?

01:25:23.90
Mike
right.

01:25:25.01
Bill
Oh, you know, first of all, um our Google searches, I forgot. i So remember the search words?

01:25:30.88
Mike
Yeah.

01:25:31.69
Bill
Okay, so i took ah ah took a screenshot because we got an email on this the other day. um We're still getting mature.com. ah Pissing matures we talked about.

01:25:41.30
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:25:41.73
Bill
um We're getting buckle holiday park. Remember the bell buckle?

01:25:46.69
Mike
Yeah.

01:25:48.88
Bill
um Everymature.com.

01:25:51.46
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:25:52.18
Bill
Here's a fun one. Found the piss drawer.

01:25:55.31
Mike
Nice.

01:25:57.33
Bill
Goat sober.

01:25:58.95
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:26:00.05
Bill
Knocked one out.

01:26:01.67
Mike
yeah

01:26:04.81
Bill
I don't understand this. It's spelled E-R-G-E-N. Ergon porn sex. Have you ever heard that word?

01:26:11.00
Mike
no hmm I'll have to Google that yeah generally all

01:26:12.25
Bill
Okay, I don't know. I don't know what it is. I didn't want to look it up because I'm like, you're the one that knows all these fucking words. That's why I figured I'd ask you. So write write that down. E-R-G-E-N. Report back next week.

01:26:23.25
Mike
all right

01:26:24.45
Bill
And then here's the best one. Give me head till I'm dead. Belt buckle.

01:26:32.50
Bill
Somebody found our website with that search term.

01:26:36.40
Mike
all right.

01:26:39.38
Bill
ah It's just like, what the fuck? Okay. um This one. Okay. Let's see. This one. This one could be good for both of us. All right. Seven habits of men who have quietly lost their joy in life.

01:26:52.56
Bill
Okay.

01:26:53.51
Mike
Hmm.

01:26:55.10
Bill
i did not I did not read this. I didn't read these. I'm just like, this one, got to read. Okay.

01:27:01.91
Mike
yeah

01:27:03.04
Bill
Number one, the joyless routine.

01:27:05.33
Mike
me

01:27:05.41
Bill
Life is full of routines. We get up, get ready, go to work, go home, do it all over again. But when joy has begun to fade, these routines can become chains that bind men to joyless existence. So that's kind of funny because we just talked about routines.

01:27:17.84
Bill
We have routines, but i don't I don't consider my routine to be joyless.

01:27:17.85
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:27:21.81
Mike
No, no, me neither. And I mean, yeah, kind of the opposite. It binds me to, you know good stuff in life.

01:27:25.77
Bill
yeah

01:27:30.04
Mike
Yeah. Mm-hmm.

01:27:30.42
Bill
Yeah, it you know it's the byproduct of our routine is joy. So, okay, that one's wrong.

01:27:34.17
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

01:27:35.88
Bill
um Second one, social withdrawal.

01:27:36.80
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah.

01:27:40.20
Bill
Remember my friend John started withdrawing from social circle, always life at the party, blah, blah, blah. But either way, so that's what, I don't know. we We socially withdraw, but again, that that keeps us sane half the time, right?

01:27:50.55
Mike
yeah i

01:27:50.64
Bill
I was just talking about that.

01:27:51.96
Mike
Yes, exactly. i five you know I'd have to be social in the first place to withdraw from something. So, right. That check.

01:28:00.45
Bill
yeah you would end up less than zero.

01:28:03.08
Mike
Right. I'd have to be negative. Ha,

01:28:05.45
Bill
yeah Okay. So number three, disinterest and previously enjoyed activities. So, okay. Um, I'm not even going to read what it is. I'm going to say, yes, I am disinterested in previously enjoyed activities.

01:28:16.81
Mike
ha, ha, ha, ha.

01:28:18.44
Bill
And, and I am but now actually more happy, more joyous and free. How about you, Mike?

01:28:22.69
Mike
yes and Yes, absolutely. yeah well and you know those Those activities weren't exactly joyful towards the end.

01:28:25.38
Bill
hey

01:28:29.75
Mike
so ah yeah Not a problem.

01:28:32.21
Bill
Well, we told, we told ourselves they were so, or tried to.

01:28:34.16
Mike
Yeah. well yeah

01:28:37.72
Bill
All right. Number four, constant fatigue. Well, that's, I was just going to say it has nothing to do with me you losing, losing joy for life.

01:28:41.07
Mike
and That's just being old, man.

01:28:47.36
Bill
I'm just, i yeah, I'm always, I'm always fucking tired.

01:28:47.76
Mike
No. Yeah.

01:28:50.53
Bill
God, that was it. That was only four. no. Here we go. um Neglecting self-care. I don't think we do that.

01:28:54.84
Mike
No, no, no, no.

01:28:55.07
Bill
We know that's that. We don't do that. um Overcompensation. Let's ironically, one habit, men, one habit of men who have lost their joy in life is overcompensation. They might throw themselves into work or hobbies trying to fill a void.

01:29:08.61
Mike
ah

01:29:08.71
Bill
Hmm.

01:29:09.33
Mike
No.

01:29:09.40
Bill
Yeah. No.

01:29:10.56
Mike
No.

01:29:11.13
Bill
um Pessimism. I don't think we're pessimistic, are we? We're realistic. Yeah.

01:29:14.64
Mike
Yeah, right. But no, no, Not pessimistic. Not anymore.

01:29:18.54
Bill
Yeah, I was going to say that, you know, telling the truth and we're not, we're not, what was me, pessimistic type of thing. Okay.

01:29:23.85
Mike
no

01:29:24.67
Bill
Final reflections. I don't care about your final reflections.

01:29:27.03
Mike
yeah

01:29:27.23
Bill
Okay. um yeah There was, there was only one more. Okay. Hang on one second. Oh, this is why but I say this one. all right. I didn't read this one either. People who downplay their birthday usually display these behaviors according to, according to psychology.

01:29:42.08
Mike
e yeah

01:29:44.91
Bill
So i'm like,

01:29:46.00
Mike
Chris just perked up her ears. Go ahead.

01:29:47.90
Bill
Mm hmm. I know. Yeah, because ah I mean, both of us do that.

01:29:51.25
Mike
Yeah.

01:29:51.37
Bill
um They are introverted. OK, I mean, you'd consider yourself to be introvert, introverted, right?

01:29:54.00
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:29:56.78
Mike
Yeah, right. I'm certainly not extroverted. No.

01:30:00.17
Bill
And, you know, I'm not, um well, i I guess I just explained the, there's a certain time that I want to be introverted and other times when I'm fine with me.

01:30:07.12
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:30:08.44
Bill
And I've seen people, um I've seen the label of I'm an introverted extrovert or extroverted introvert.

01:30:08.58
Mike
Right.

01:30:13.48
Mike
Ah, yeah. Uh-huh.

01:30:15.15
Bill
I think I can be, I can easily be both, but regardless.

01:30:17.35
Mike
Right.

01:30:19.67
Bill
They value experiences over material gifts. Hmm.

01:30:23.67
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:30:24.11
Bill
Yes.

01:30:24.84
Mike
Yes.

01:30:25.16
Bill
do you Do you agree with that? Okay.

01:30:26.14
Mike
Yes, absolutely. Right.

01:30:27.91
Bill
Ah, yeah.

01:30:29.56
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:30:31.36
Bill
They have a high level of emotional maturity. oh yeah.

01:30:36.48
Mike
yeah

01:30:39.87
Bill
All right, everyone. As soon as you're done throwing up, I'll go on.

01:30:42.82
Mike
right

01:30:44.42
Bill
Yeah, number three. They have a high level of... but yeah You know what? We do. I'm just going to go, okay, I agree.

01:30:48.50
Mike
right yeah

01:30:52.01
Bill
ah They are selfless and considerate.

01:30:54.70
Mike
ah um you know, got to work at it, but yeah.

01:30:59.18
Bill
here I mean, we we are. we're not We're not poster children for either one of those terms, but I think that yes.

01:31:04.44
Mike
No.

01:31:06.68
Bill
um Okay, this one this one I think is 100% seriously I agree with. They cherish authentic connections.

01:31:14.35
Mike
Mm-hmm. Oh, absolutely.

01:31:15.35
Bill
We do. Yeah.

01:31:15.75
Mike
Yeah. yeah I don't want no fake bullshit around here.

01:31:18.28
Bill
yeah We don't need no fake foos.

01:31:21.02
Mike
No.

01:31:22.52
Bill
Speaking of foos, I got to talk about that in a minute. um They may deal with birthday blues. No.

01:31:28.62
Mike
No.

01:31:29.14
Bill
No. OK.

01:31:29.95
Mike
No.

01:31:30.72
Bill
I knew that was a no for you. um They are, oh boy.

01:31:34.87
Mike
yeah

01:31:35.07
Bill
They are not attention seekers. ah Um, i never, never try. I can't even say it.

01:31:45.46
Bill
Yeah. I'm a fucking attention seeker, but that's not why I, that's not why I don't try to celebrate my birthday.

01:31:49.94
Mike
Right.

01:31:50.39
Bill
I just don't give a fuck anymore. You know?

01:31:51.70
Mike
Yeah, exactly. yeah yeah I want you to look at me. I just don't want you to talk to me.

01:31:54.98
Bill
yeah Right. Yeah. We, we, we talked about it. The things that are important. I mean, you know, the, the, why, what, what is a birthday? What, what did you do for your birthday, Mike?

01:32:04.40
Mike
Not a goddamn thing.

01:32:04.57
Bill
To be born. Yeah.

01:32:05.92
Mike
Yeah. It means my dad my dad left it in.

01:32:09.94
Bill
And hopefully your mom agreed.

01:32:11.24
Mike
ah Exactly. And hopefully she allowed it.

01:32:12.42
Bill
That's it's the part I love the best. Okay, number eight, they value simplicity. o

01:32:19.99
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.

01:32:21.66
Bill
I can agree with that.

01:32:21.69
Mike
For me.

01:32:22.65
Bill
Yeah.

01:32:22.70
Mike
Yeah. Right. You know, i don't want a bunch of complicated shit going around. Keep it simple, stupid.

01:32:28.03
Bill
Yeah. And, uh, okay. Yeah, that's it. But, uh, I think, you know, with the exception of attention seeking, I don't that was just kind of funny when I ran across that, I'm like, well, let's just see how this goes because yeah, we're, we're both of the, uh, the whole birthday thing.

01:32:37.60
Mike
yeah Yeah.

01:32:40.76
Bill
But, um, yeah, just real quick with the whole Foo Fighters thing, you saw that, uh, Josh Freeze got fired.

01:32:45.91
Mike
Yeah.

01:32:46.79
Bill
Yeah. I was, um, do you know anything, anything more behind that or just

01:32:52.00
Mike
um Well, I mean, there's rumors that Taylor's kids taken over.

01:32:57.21
Bill
You know, I heard the rumor too, but um then like the next day he is, whatever his name, Shane.

01:33:04.88
Mike
i don't remember.

01:33:05.40
Bill
Is that right? i don't remember either.

01:33:06.23
Mike
I don't know.

01:33:07.18
Bill
Yeah. So Taylor Hawkins kid, whatever his name is, um he's touring with Taylor Hawkins band.

01:33:09.05
Mike
Right.

01:33:12.28
Bill
He's already committed to doing that this summer.

01:33:14.51
Mike
That Chevy metal or whatever it is.

01:33:14.74
Bill
So he's, there you go. i couldn't think of the name of it.

01:33:17.95
Mike
Yeah.

01:33:18.22
Bill
So he's, he is drumming for them for that Chevy metal that I know for sure.

01:33:20.37
Mike
Yeah. Well, I mean, the foos aren't out to her in any way, so.

01:33:22.24
Bill
But then, Right. Right. And then the only other thing, this was kind of a sarcastic thing, which I thought would be kind of funny, is I wonder if maybe if if Josh Freeze was the one that set up Dave Grohl with the chick that he fucked and got pregnant.

01:33:30.64
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:33:36.11
Mike
Nah.

01:33:38.26
Bill
yeah And I'm like, Dave Grohl's wife's like, you hate to fire him. Which, long shot, but but yeah, I mean, but you and I, both of us, was fucking blown away by him when we and we saw him.

01:33:52.14
Mike
Right.

01:33:52.49
Bill
I mean, you know he seemed to, obviously, when I, the the record that they put out, all the stuff, he sounded great, but fucking live, I'm just like, this dude's a goddamn monster, you know?

01:34:00.79
Mike
Yeah.

01:34:01.61
Bill
um And, you know, I just, the the things that, he made up this fake top 10 list of why he was starting, which is, it was silly, wasn't anything you know out of the ordinary, but yeah.

01:34:05.86
Mike
Yeah, I saw that. Right. Right.

01:34:11.58
Bill
Hey, he's like, and am I professional drumming career? Because I'd just never been, I'd never been fired.

01:34:15.92
Mike
Right.

01:34:16.16
Bill
And then did you see the check that he got? He got a royalty check a couple of days after that or whatever it was.

01:34:20.31
Mike
No. Didn't see that.

01:34:21.12
Bill
It was like for, it was like for five cents or something.

01:34:23.93
Mike
Ah.

01:34:26.31
Bill
I don't know. It's just, yeah,

01:34:27.25
Mike
Well, I mean, he never recorded with them.

01:34:30.95
Bill
yeah he did.

01:34:31.60
Mike
No.

01:34:32.72
Bill
Yeah, he did on their, um their, their latest record. Their, their most recent.

01:34:36.26
Mike
I thought that was Dave. I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure he didn't record anything with them.

01:34:42.96
Bill
Seriously? I, you know what?

01:34:43.69
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. And on ah a side note, I'm pretty sure I saw him drum last Sunday.

01:34:51.90
Bill
Who?

01:34:52.93
Mike
Josh.

01:34:53.75
Bill
Really? With who?

01:34:54.28
Mike
Yeah. Perfect circle.

01:34:56.64
Bill
Oh, no shit.

01:34:57.81
Mike
Yeah.

01:34:58.66
Bill
Oh.

01:34:58.63
Mike
I don't know. I mean, I wasn't paying that much attention.

01:35:01.55
Bill
Okay.

01:35:01.96
Mike
But yeah, I did read some stuff that he went back out with him and I'm pretty sure he did that show on Sunday.

01:35:08.13
Bill
Oh, well, that's cool. I mean, my, my point was, I don't think he's going to be out of work for long.

01:35:09.09
Mike
Yeah.

01:35:11.58
Bill
mean, he's a, he's a hell of a drummer.

01:35:12.17
Mike
No.

01:35:13.01
Bill
It just, ah it kind of blew my mind. I, again, I thought it was, I thought it was like a fake article when I first read it, but I don't know. It was just kind of a, when I said, we don't need any of those foos. It's, I don't know, something I had written down.

01:35:24.54
Bill
So, okay. But um i don't know. Do you want to, do you want to recap your show are you, we done?

01:35:30.02
Mike
Yeah.

01:35:31.73
Bill
Okay. You saw it.

01:35:32.13
Mike
yeah Okay. I'll recap it like this. Chris had a wonderful time. She enjoyed it very, very much.

01:35:36.60
Bill
Okay.

01:35:37.89
Mike
She said it was one of the best shows she's ever seen.

01:35:40.59
Bill
Okay, good. All right, Chris.

01:35:41.84
Mike
i i literally twiddled my thumbs at one point.

01:35:47.53
Bill
Kind of like when we were watching Greta Van Fleet.

01:35:49.56
Mike
Yeah. Very similar.

01:35:50.87
Bill
Yeah. Well, and, but Greta Van Fleet, I admitted walking out of there that they were fucking terrible. They were fucking terrible.

01:35:57.83
Mike
Right.

01:35:58.15
Bill
So, okay. All right. Well, yeah, I don't, I don't believe I have anything else. So I think we're, I think we're good.

01:36:04.47
Mike
Cool. All right. Well, yeah, and we have gone a while here. So ah here we go. All right.

01:36:12.92
Mike
Well, thank you everyone for listening to yet another episode of Sober Not Mature. As always, be kind to each other. be good to each other.

01:36:23.98
Mike
go out and do something nice for somebody else and don't tell anybody you did it. You know, like when nobody's watching. think we talked about that. Anyway. Ah, yes. From the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul.

01:36:37.48
Mike
From the beginning of time until the ends of the earth. Always and it eternally. Fuck you. Now it's that time, kids. It is that time.

01:36:49.23
Mike
It is time for you to fuck off. Then keep fucking off. Keep fucking off till you get to a gate with a sign on it saying, you cannot fuck off past here.

01:37:01.95
Mike
Climb over that gate. Dream the impossible dream. And keep fucking off forever.

01:37:10.91
Bill
Part of that was like a smooth jazz version of it.

01:37:13.95
Mike
Right.

01:37:15.77
Bill
Last thing, Henry Winkler, I started listening to his book.

01:37:18.61
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:37:19.26
Bill
It's good. have you ever You've heard interviews with him, um obviously, I'm sure.

01:37:21.80
Mike
Sure.

01:37:23.00
Bill
And it's just i I don't think I've listened to him this much. I've listened to hour-long interviews.

01:37:28.03
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:37:28.07
Bill
um But everyone really paid attention to him just talking not having a two way conversation like that.

01:37:32.50
Mike
Right.

01:37:32.74
Bill
um It's just it's amazing. His he's almost got this childlike wonder in his voice still.

01:37:39.41
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:37:39.84
Bill
And whatever he's in his 70s, I think um it's just crazy.

01:37:41.66
Mike
Right.

01:37:43.05
Bill
He's talking about his parents. It's a little bit of a fucked up.

01:37:45.65
Mike
Yeah.

01:37:46.31
Bill
you know, childhood parents and what everybody still says with this, this fucking childlike wonder.

01:37:48.08
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:37:51.98
Bill
I'm like, this is fucking crazy.

01:37:53.91
Mike
Yeah.

01:37:54.05
Bill
He opened, he opened up the book saying whatever day it was 1973, blah, blah, blah. So he opened with his happy days, um, audition, which was crazy.

01:38:02.26
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:38:03.55
Bill
It was really, really good. But, uh, yeah, anyhow, I'll, uh, I'm sure I'll have more to talk about with him, but, uh, it's, I'm, I'm glad that I got, it's like, think a fucking nine and a half hour book. So I got, I got, I got plenty to listen through.

01:38:12.73
Mike
Mm.

01:38:15.54
Bill
so

01:38:16.20
Mike
Yes.

01:38:16.84
Bill
But anyhow, um i think well I think we're done, right? All

01:38:21.00
Mike
Yeah, i did I've been done for about five minutes.

01:38:25.07
Bill
right. Well, I think I'll talk to you soon then. How's that?

01:38:27.06
Mike
Yes, you will.

01:38:28.78
Bill
All right. Love you, brother.

01:38:29.70
Mike
Love you too.

01:38:31.16
Bill

01:38:31.83
Mike
